Awful from start to finish

To start with the app is a waste of time. It just doesn’t work most of the time and on the rare occasion it does allow you to search it fails on payment. Last rental I got to the payment and tried 5 times all of which failed to go through. When I called they said they have huge problems with the app and she done it manually but wanted to charge me an extra £80 from what the app was showing. She said she knew this but it was the best she could do so I refused and hired through somewhere else. On some 3rd party reseller sites the price was cheaper than what Hertz offered to me as a Gold member and I showed this to Hertz who still said they would not match the price. How does that even work?? Poor App and poor customer service.

This has tobe one of the worst apps on my phone ! I have been waiting for them to improve for years . Great service but the app is so poor in every sense ! Too many issues for me to list but you know them all by now .. if you don’t then the problem is much bigger . Please fix so it is aligned with the great service you offer as a whole ! Thank you.

So I signed up as a perk of my AMEX Platinum card. To be met with such a poorly built app from what I thought was reputable company. The app does not allow me to login after the signup and the website already blocked my access after trying. HERTZ SORT IT OUT!!!

Terrible - Desperately needs an update!

This app is awful. It hasn’t been updated in years and lacks so much functionality that the newer versions of iOS have these days. Horrible scaled display. Crashes multiple times when trying to do the most basic things. Just awful. Please update this Hertz! Not even worthy of 1 star.

Still doesn’t work, years later

This app is frankly horrible. It has never worked properly. Where do I start. It never remembers my username, it never shows that I have had past rentals this year, it doesn’t let you pick a date and time logically, it crashes or just hangs with a black screen often.

Hertz- what has happened you used to be good - this is one of the worst user experiences I have ever seen - and it has been this way on this app for years - literally. I am a Presidents Circle member - How can you still be in business with this piece of junk as your customer facing app?

Incredibly poor

In todays day and age you’d expect to be able to handle all of your reservation needs (past and present) within the app. Sadly, it’s anything but. Woeful slow, inadequate info and very difficult to navigate. Other car rental companies are streets ahead.

I don’t understand how a major company like Hertz can offer such a low quality, poorly functioning app as part of its customer experience. It often fails to load, is always excruciatingly slow and buggy as hell. Will be ok when done

I encountered many small problems. Entering details like airline info should be pre-filled. Many times stuck with a rotating timer. Need to start again.

Going back in the process is erratic. Rather start afresh.

After making a booking I wanted to see it, but it did not show up to click. I had to manually enter the booking number.

After restarting (forever loop) it asks me for my userid again, even though at first use it already knew me.

The app feels like a beta version.

Years behind all other rental companies, the app is outdated, inconsistent and horribly slow.

Great prices, terrible app

Black screens, laggy, constantly spinning “progress” wheels. Downloaded and attempted a rental three times. Never able to complete. What takes seconds on competitor apps takes 15 minutes on the Hertz app and doesn’t finish. Then to top it off, when going back into the app to try a third time, the car at the price originally quoted is gone and the price is now £100 higher! Come on Hertz! It’s 2023, not 2003. Get on board here!

Very, very buggy

This app needs a serious overhaul. Any half-decent test team would find all the bugs I found in half a day. It does not remember me, it throws up all sorts of incorrect errors. If you trip at the last hurdle with your bank card it just freezes solid, and loses all the information. Given the PC version is also broken, I can’t actually hire a Herz car right now. Hertz, this is really hurting you, honestly!!!

I’m stunned this by terribly awful app. Registration is lengthy, clunky and annoying. Booking is okay. Accessing your booking is stupendously, stupidly difficult. The app suggests an upgrade but App Store says it’s not available in your country App Store (UK)! Also, when using the app in Switzerland the language shifts to German by default and there is no easy way to switch back! I dumped the app and switched back to the website… not a good image for a global industry leader… Hertz can do better..

Unusable

I’m not sure what it is about apps for car hire (Avis and Sixt excepted) but they pretty much are all either broken or bug-ridden.

Once upon a time, the Hertz app was basic but usable, now it just serves as a faulty website redirection tool. This hasn’t quite hit the depths that the Budget car hire app does but it’s getting pretty close.

Shocking

Joined up and downloaded the app , selected pick up point , cannot select drop off point reverts to pick up !

Dates and times are in US format and you have to self fill !

Uploaded a credit card , cannot access personal details on the app have to go to computer , exp date was incorrect although entered correctly ,changed and saved ,it was confirmed , rechecked reverted to incorrect date !

Logged out , tried to re log in says details are incorrect , even though I logged in and out several times before amending my card details !

Sent a email through the app the feedback form doesn’t fit iPhone , I have the latest phone and iOS !

So all in all it works like a well oiled machine !

App crashes on iPhone 7 with latest iOS

I used to be able to use the app on my iPhone but now I can’t even open it. It works fine on my iPad pro but I don’t always have that with me. I belong to several different discount groups and always have to check which discount will give me the best rate, it’s a slow process. Why doesn’t Hertz just return the best discount for me instead for forcing me to edit the booking each time I want to see the value of the discounts? Also, Hertz is often no longer competitively priced even with discounts. I’ve been a gold member for more than 20 years and it’s sad to see this company fade into obscurity.

Stinks

Every time I log in to the app, it requires me to enter my log in info. Then it throws me out of the app. On reentry, the data is now there and in I go. But sometimes I have to go round several times.

Then it fails to know that I always rent from the same location Cambridge UK, and offers me Cambridge US.

Recently, this has changed. Now it won’t even load. The screen flashes and then reverts to previous. Even if I restart phone and reload app.

I have just registered with you as a new Gold Plus Rewards customer. I have therefore naturally downloaded your app (iPhone 10XR fully updated IOS), and it crashes immediately on opening. I can’t even enter my details to register (crashes before I can). Rather than leave a bad review I did look to communicate with you via ‘app help’ in the App Store, but you have no method of communication other than an international phone call. Not good for such a large international brand.

App continues to reflect horrible backend

Just to start; the app works - it allows you to book a car and review the booking (that’s pretty much it). But the user experience is clunky and horrible. It contains a hoard of unnecessary clicks (why do you have to tap ‘login’ when you already have the login details prefilled?!), inconsistent results (eg. you cannot seem to compare two different CPDs), lack of basic OS support (eg. Touch ID).

It doesn’t delight like other best of breed apps do and always leave a bitter aftertaste (what was really the rate? did it go through? why can I not see my booking history?)

Never use any other hire company

I have been using Hertz for nearly 30 years, apart from one BA coerced hiring with Avis - never again!

I have hired across Europe, the States, South Africa Australia and New Zealand and have never had a problem, occasionally an irritant, but nearly always sorted amicably! 99% of Hertz staff are a pleasure to deal with. I’m sure the 1% (usually at French or Italian Airports) will one day surprise me!

I find the new website extremely easy to use and always appreciate the pre pay facility.

So all in all, a very happy hirer!

Two great companies providing a great service. Simple really. App works effortlessly, Hertz are dependable, their fleet reliable, they resolve difficulties painlessly, Amex insure XS and the meeting of the two brands provides for one additional driver. Used to be good but no longer works

Since a recent upgrade the app no longer opens. Can see it has started but won’t come up to the front to use. Could see it wanted my login details.

Removed it completely and reinstalled (twice) after rebooting phone and just shows the hertz blank screen in the background and again doesn’t come to the front to use.

Good rental service, poor app experience

Forms dont feel ios natural, difficult to tap, the fields wont support the auto fill so I entered all my details by hand instead of using pre stored information from ios and password manager. The screen layout seems to be for smaller devices so had the ugly top and bottom margin, as well as some weird keyboard slides that looked odd. Overall the whole process is a bit of a hassle... when it should be pain-free and smooth.

Terrible site on computer terrible app

I have had lots of problems using the site on my computer ( at times it lost my booking, did not record my gold card status, ask me to give my age when there is no spot to put it and therefore refuse to proceed, refuse to register Rome airport as a valid place...). The app is less unreliable but awkward to navigate: you have to punch the screen literally to enter certain infos, the number keyboard to enter phone does not have a + option for international number... all in all a terrible platform unworthy of Hertz

Not a great app

I find this app hard to use. I cannot change profile details, and there is minimal information shown for bookings. I would have thought this would be a priority for Hertz to have a decent app to allow ease of booking. Everything else seems to work, especially for gold members, I turn up and they give me the keys, very easy.

Basic App, Not Well Maintained

This is one of those bare minimum apps. Literally Hertz UK is doing the absolute minimum they can. The app doesn't send me a notification of my car but Hertz send me an email so the data is there to build that experience. The app hasn't been updated to support any latest iOS features...no 3D Touch, no widgets, no iPhone X let alone XS layout support, no Wallet support for membership card and absolutely for Siri Shortcuts (like my upcoming rental?).

The final nail to modernity is that they're using iPhone 5/SE screenshot in the store.

I like it - works very well on my iPad - I find it easy to use and occasionally I am tempted to hire elsewhere (mostly because there is no Hertz office) or Hertz can be a bit pricey but usually regret it because of slow service at desks and a less classy car.

Have you used your own app?

The customer journey is terrible. No way to view previous rentals. Why does the app not know about existing/upcoming rentals without having to enter a booking reservation number? The experience could be so much better. Also trying to give feedback via the app resulted in it losing my comments and timing out! By design perhaps?! I’ve managed the delivery of complex business to consumer apps - there is no excuse for such a lack of user-friendliness. I rarely give feedback but felt compelled to do so in this case.
