It was fine until they broke it

Sadly, it’s the only app that you can see the Freeview TV schedules. The link that takes you to the current time plays hide & seek and is not always available when needed.
The information about the programs are worthless waste of time, specifically when it comes to movies. So, this app has a very limited uses

Almost perfect… 😊

If the app had some indication (like TV.24 app) of the date of first airing, it would be absolutely perfect… there are so many repeats on broadcast TV now, and some of them are multiple airings, this would be invaluable.

What has happened with Freeview.

Freeview has become most unreliable. We have it in our Panasonic TV and it seems that most of the time it a waste of time. You cannot reach the streaming channels and it keeps telling me It is not connected to the internet , when it is. All in all is is getting to be totally useless

It’s just a channel guide

So I downloaded this as hoped to be able to use it to access Freeview channels. But it basically relies on 3rd party apps to give access. If you have the C4 App or ITV App already downloaded, it’ll use that to give you access. It doesn’t work with SkyMix which is what I downloaded it for! So not much use really

Great!

Easily the best (terrestrial) tv guide for the UK. No stupid pop-ups, adverts, and waiting for it to load while you scroll, like some of the website-based internet tv guides. It’s all there in front of you and even has links to the shows. You can also go back to previous days’ programming to see what you may have missed.
And it’s free! No ads! … for FREE! What a crazy concept!

OK - but could be better

Have used this app for years. It gets irritating updates and loses functionality so you can never trust it to work! Currently (Feb 2025) you can’t use the guide to get information about any programme that isn’t showing - so future planning isn’t available. The search function is also having a sulk. It still appears to have “ghost” stations - channel 59 which never transmits?

WHY HAVE YOU REMOVED THE LANDSCAPE FEATURE?

I asked why you have removed the landscape feature. Your reply is copied below. When using the app on a mobile phone it is much easier to view in landscape, so a backward step. You claim to have added a feature that was already there i.e. tap a programme to view more details!
Do us a favour and allow landscape mode again. Don’t follow the rest, be the best, again.
After having this looked into there was changes and the mobile Phones are now locked to portrait. this cannot be changed back, The Landscape will still work on tablets though. This was a deliberate change - in line with what other apps do.
Don’t mess with the best.
2024-10-05

Screen Orientation

Useless update, version 4.9.0 now prevents the Tv guide to switch into landscape from portrait mode? And yes I’ve reinstalled the app, checked the lock tab, rebooted the phone and checked other apps are working okay, they are. My old 6s plus running 4.8.4 still works fine? You’ve taken a really useful feature ( landscape mode ) and prevented it from working while apparently adding a feature that isn’t really that useful, touch the screen to display program details? You could do that with the previous version of the guide just tap the program and it instantly gave you details.
Sort it out Freeview, sick of software developers messing about with useful features in a app that people use all the time to add pointless options that aren't required.

Ok..but layout and interface are really poor.

Don't quite understand why the design of this got approved! The annoying 'line' down the list of channels where the ACTUAL time relates to is in the wrong place! Sure.y it should default to the far left hand side! users could then scroll left or right to choose whether to view on demand or in real time! and for it not to remain in the position its moved to, to view a a programme is most annoying. So many channels aren't even available, you have to download a separate app! Seems very clunky and laborious, not impressed after using for a werk its now binned!

Great freeview app

A great freeview app having a comprehensive and easy operation. I am very pleased with the layout and the information at hand. Also being able to look back over a weeks previous listings is handy to check for information if forgotten. Highly recommend my only criticism is that occasionally when I’ve clicked onto the listings link it freezes and I cannot go back.

My most used app, well almost !

This is my daily used app and numerous times a day. Although I have been called a fjernsyns narkoman (Danish for TV addict) I am truly not I just like to know when TV schedules are adjusted (during sporting months) and when I can expect to catch my usual soaps!!!
Plus I’m a woman who loves her football so it’s very handy for fitting in my football schedules - as I am never sure which channel!

Shows channels that cannot be received in my area

My postcode is used correctly to identify my regional variations. However, like vast areas of Scotland, we are served by a relay transmitter, not a main transmitter. We therefore get a cut-down version of Freeview called Freeview Lite and so the majority of channels listed in this app are not available to me. This inaccuracy is very frustrating. The developer should either highlight the channels which are available to me or should de-list the channels which are not part of Freeview Lite. This is a simply a matter of honesty and accuracy. I have made these comments before with no response and I have no means of contacting the developer directly.

Accessible for people using VoiceOver but channels need an update

This isn't an app I use very often, and actually had to re-download it today in order to use it again. Somebody recommended some TV programs to me last night on Channel 36 which is sky arts it turns out. When I came to look through the guide, Channel 36 didn't even seem to exist. After doing a bit of research, I learned that this channel had been updated from channel number 11 back in October 2023. I went back to the app and looked again, no channel 11 either. This would be great if only the channel numbers were kept up-to-date. Please fix this and I will be eternally grateful.

This is a great App!

I love this Freeview app. While I wasn’t looking, it grew into this highly functional app that does exactly what I wanted - an on screen guide like the one on my TV and automatic launch of whatever player is needed (the players must be separately installed, but the app prompts you to do this). Meanwhile the other app I used to use descended into a buggy less functional mess with intrusive advertising- thank you for providing this alternative.
My only complaint- it’s not available on Apple TV. I understand it would need a version developed for Apple’s TVoS, so please please consider doing this

Great App

So I have recently started using this app as a TV Guide for the Freeview channels after many problems with another TV Guide app. Although this app does not show sky channels, I still cannot fault it for the Freeview channels!
Absolutely love the fact you can look at “Plan my week” at programs you have recorded and they are split into the days. Very clean, and tidy
Only recommendation would be when you have set a reminder for a program, You get a reminder icon within the tv guide, as you can forget, when looking at the TV Guide if you have a program already planned, and if it clashes with another program.

Brilliant App, Lesson to All Developers

A thing of beauty, visually animated typesetting, that helps clarity. Awesome job. The TV Guide aspect is perfection. Only suggestion is the extra info for a programs details/info, is to avoid the need to scroll down on iPad, as well as the blank screen that appears before scrolling down. Maybe some programs have a visual that appears in this space, but it takes up the whole screen without benefit.

Excellent App

After subscribing to an app for a few years now, and putting up with wrong listings, channels that aren’t listed, channels that aren’t in my region, etc, etc, this app is way better in terms of listings and accuracy. There are no adverts, it’s free to use, and easy to use. This app has come a long way since I looked at this first time a few years ago. This has now become my go to tv guide as of today, and in my opinion, the best on the App Store. Thoroughly recommend.

Great TV IDEAS

When Freeview was First introduced very few people were aware of the Device which you were required to purchase & that was 15yrs ago.
Now it’s Available to all to View with smart TVs & Phones.
And it now with much improvement provides a great deal of entertainment to all at the touch & command of a button on your Remote Control !!?

Waste of time.

Sorry, but I’ve installed this app, and although I’m watching certain freebies channels on my TV such like Blaze , channel 64 I can’t get any of these channels on this app, should have realised this app is no better than the rest when I noticed there was only one other review to count it on, probably written by a member of staff, anyway, this app only lets you watch the Mickey Mouse channels, the same old same old channels I try to avoid, this said, I’ll delete this app, wasted enough time trying to sort it.

Freeview guide

It was perfect and they ruined it! A black line told you the time and you could scan forward in time to check your programs and go up and down between channels now if you go down channels it shoots back up to top of page and the black line disappeared so you can’t easily see what’s on later! Looks like time to delete app what a shame!

Unusable for blind or visually impaired users

Extremely disappointing that I cannot get this app on my Apple TV. I am visually impaired and don't really want to watch TV on my phone. I can't believe that this is not available on Apple TV yet.
I have an iPhone XR running iOS 15.3. I use VoiceOver, a feature built into iOS for the visually impaired. This app in no way works with VoiceOver making it totally unusable for blind or visually impaired users. I can navigate my way through the initial setup p screens no problem but then once I get past the start browsing option nothing is read to me from the screen at all And touching the screen does nothing at all. Very disappointing I would've thought at least TV apps should support VoiceOver making it accessible for blind and visually impaired users. Very very disappointing

Well thought out and easy to navigate

The Radio Times app used to be my favourite but now I find I am going to this Freeview guide as my first choice.
Gives a comprehensive view of all the channels which you can customise to your region and so easy to scroll back and forth in time to find not only what’s on next but what you may have missed.
Try it - it impressively clear and easy to use.

The best there is,simplicity is what makes it king!

Had all the other TV guide apps that started out good a few years back, when banner ads were all we had and a one off 59p fee usually rid you of those, then they started to change bringing in IAPs & subscriptions for a poor buggy service that will crash when you look at certain channels (etc) so one by one I stopped using them all - either using the what’s on now section in sky’s app or the tv’s on screen guide. I saw this so I thought I’d try it out,i was expecting more of the same bugs above but found a very clean and simple app that hasn’t crashed or left me wondering what’s on. It’s easy to use,tap twice to add a channel to favourites for a quick view of what on those channels, and then the usual grid view or list view & now & next etc. Almost like it’s info is beamed from your tv - Finally a simple guide app that is clear and easy to use,a little one or the elderly will have no trouble using it.

The New Beginning

After many years with Virginmedia we decided to make a change due to the many disruptions to the service provided.
Our TV was able to receive Freeview and only required an external aerial to be fitted and hey presto we now have Freeview.
We added a Manhattan FreeviewPlay recorder and are very pleased we made the change. Now we subscription-free TV.

I’m afraid that whilst this might be a great app, and initial appearances suggest it is at least good, I simply can’t use it because it is locked in portrait orientation. I only use an iPad which is permanently attached to a keyboard which means to view this app I need to either crane my neck or detach the keyboard. Ironically once a program is chosen guess what, I have to return my iPad to landscape orientation to watch it. All that’s needed is for the developers to unlock the orientation within the app, beyond that I believe iPadOS 15 does the rest, it might display in the centre of the screen with black bars on each side but at least it would be more user friendly than it is right now. Unlock the orientation and I’ll give the app another try and no doubt revise this review.

Frustrating

Why has the manual area input been dropped? I am in Gloucester for which the best reception is Ridge Hill, a Central transmitter. But it keeps defaulting to West based on my postcode and I can no longer manually change it. FS. If only we could be in the West TV region, the rest of the world thinks Gloucester is in the west of England. And the listing for today’s World Cup PO Final is still Wales v TBA. FS. Get a grip.
Update
Judging by the Developer Response I haven’t made myself clear. It used to be the case that you could manually choose your TV area. That is no longer the case. The app chooses it for you based on ‘detect location’ or postcode input. That doesn’t work for me being in Gloucester, because the app thinks I should be in the West TV region, when I can only get Central, like most Gloucester residents. So KIS, let everyone choose the TV region they’re in.

Channel availability, numbering and the app

Why are some listed freeview channels not available on TV? Why does the app close down in the night. I can’t see what’s on then or the next day. When there are TV schedule changes, the app is very, very slow to update. As well as the one-sentence summary, the app should provide a little more description on each programme and film. It should always state the series and episode numbers where appropriate, and/or date of first transmission. (Year of film production is usually shown, which is great). On iPad, when clicking on a programme, a new screen opens with a massive window for an image. Most times there is no image, and in all cases I have to scroll down to read the minimal text that is provided.

Very unreliable loading data

Update April 21, still the same. Surely I are the one experiencing this? The info is clear and well organised, however when the app opens about 25% of the time the grid is empty. Closing and reopening does not cause the data to be displayed. This sounds like our broadband is the cause but everything else works fine. Update....have deleted and reinstalled app several times, and using on latest iPad OS but frustratingly, but the problem persists. Good app when it works, but it’s just often enough

Poor search

I can only search Live TV in ‘today’. Not much use. A pity as this would be really useful now that the Youview app is being taken off the App Store.
Now started showing wrong episodes of upcoming ongoing tv shows. Region setttings checked ok.
As of early 2021 the guide is constantly out of date or in error.

Needs just one thing more

this is probably the best app as a TV Guide but why oh why do you insist on using light grey text on a bright white background. It’s like using dark blue on black. The only people who can use this comfortably are those with perfect vision. Just how many are there out there. please do away with this stupid modern trend and give us text, especially on the info page that we can read comfortably. Thank you

Missing whole 24 hours listings

I’ve used this app for sometime now without any hitches. Missing a whole 24 hours listings all channels. Just a blank table. Happening more often lately. The previous day and the following day will be showing but not the current dayand why I have given 3 stars to what has always been a 5 star app.

Yet another rubbish update

Submitted the review below and got a response for the developer the following day confirming an update with a fix. Very impressive response.
The review below was submitted over a year ago but Freeview then managed to greatly improve. Unfortunately they have slipped back in to mediocrity and this all applies again now.
This now runs fast and seamlessly but is distinctly lacking on information. About 90% of the programmes listed in the guide have no information about them attached when you click on the programme to go up a level for more details. This is all well and good when you are looking at a TV series and have a pretty good idea of what to expect but is about as much use as men’s t*ts when you are looking at say Film4 with the title of a movie given and absolutely nothing else. Give your heads a shake for gawds sake.

Bad and getting worse.

The old original Freeview app was great, simple and useful to use. Just look up the schedule and if there was anything you wanted to record, just press the button. Anywhere in the world. If you hid channels on your tv it wouldn’t show them on the app, making it even easier to navigate. Now there’s no way to record programmes remotely and when you want to check a programmes contents you click on the programme, which goes to a separate screen with nothing on unless you scroll down and read the few lines about the programme. Checking this morning it wasn’t even bothering to do that, so what’s the point?
It’s like this app designed by the same people who screwed up iTunes.

It’s quick, and does exactly what you want.

My TV has the worst EPG on earth. That’s what you get for buying supermarket TVs I guess.... but anyways. This app tells you quickly what’s on the telly now, and what’s on next, along with the channel number and where to view it online if need be. And there’s a reminder function too. The schedule view is also very good. Overall, this is the perfect companion to a rubbish, cheap TV.

A sort of improvement

Update: Since my last review, still waiting for the App to add a facility to see in a separate window what you’ve selected on your reminders list which was what I previously liked the most in the old App.
———————————————
Original: After using the old app for years, although it had it’s issues, I used the facility to add to calendar and could change the remind in advance time. This seems to have gone in the new app. I’ve worked out how to set a notification by the app, but as this doesn’t add to the calendar I can’t change the very short notification time which is not very helpful. The layout of the guide has improved though.

Not bad...

Got this to replace the You View app, which was great for TV listings, programming the YV box etc. But they stopped supporting it so I had to move on. There’s a lot I like about this - the ability to watch programmes, access other TV players etc. The one thing that bugs me though is that the search doesn’t work properly. It will find some programmes but not others, which is very strange. I would use this a lot for checking what’s available, what the latest series are.

Useful app

They have just released an update to fix some bugs and they have totally killed it - great pity. What’s worse is there is no way to contact them to tell them they have killed the app on iOS 13.3
Update
Post the initial review the developers have reworked the app and made it work again - best app around for Freeview schedule, actually better than the ‘full fat’ web version!

App does not load, it crashes immediately

Since updating to this release (4.4.2j what was a very useful app has become totally useless. It crashes immediately without showing anything. This is on iPadOS 13.3. Hardly "bug fixes" rather "bug introduction". Epic failure.
Everything has been sorted quickly with the release of version 4.4.3. Many thanks for the quick response. Back to 5 stars!

Brilliant

Yes brilliant, I use the guide and choose a programme and see it straight away with a couple of clicks. The icing on the cake is having the option to start at the beginning. Also ability to freeze programme makes it better than telly. I’m just amazed that more is not heard about this!
One improvement; default to the guide on entering the ap.
Keep up the good work!

Search future programmes

App generally works well, but it seems it DOESN’T allow searching for future programmes, i.e. in the next 7 days. Search only gives results for today or the past.
The only way to see if/when next episode is coming up is to manually scroll through the grid for the next week.

Good TV program guide

Been using TVGuide Plus, which I like for it adding reserved programs to my calendar so you could view what was coming up. However, if you went beyond midnight of the current day, what programs were listed were totally different to what was shown when selected, making it useless beyond the current day. The Freeview app does go beyond the current day and I like it for planning my viewing. My only gripe is that you can’t see any list of programs you’ve reserved for watching - a viewable listing would be ideal, or as TVGuide Plus does, add reserved programs to your calendar. To be able to view or list reserved programs would get it 5 stars from me.

Why I haven't yet bought into Freeview Play

Hi. I've been using a Youview recorder box for a number of years and would really like to move over to Freeview Play. My Humax Youview recorder is linked to the Youview ios app which allows me to set recordings on the box wherever I am in the world (much like people who are Sky users can do). I find this an invaluable and key facility. Even when at home I tend to set recordings in this way rather than switching on the box and using the remote to set programmes to record.
The Humax Freeview Play recorded looks really good but there doesn't seem to be a facility to set recordings (including series lined recordings) from my phone even when I'm out and about. Provide this, and I'll jump.

Accessibility for visually impaired

I am using the voice over screen reader for the visually impaired. I cannot find any way to favorite channels and when i Perform a search for a show to watch on catch up for example 'American dad', it will return all the available episodes but when i swipe through each of the search results, all i hear is 'watch American Dad'. To find out what series and episode number plus the episode name, i have to view the entry page for each result. Can you fix this so this info is available to voiceover on the search results page?
Also can you add a feature in the settings to enable audio description if a show has it and to mention audio description in the program descriptions like it does on standard freeview on terestial TV. thanks

Quick and Responsive

I am impressed with this Ap, when we cancelled Sky I missed their tv Ap, and the Freeview Ap, at the time, was slow and lacked detail so I did not use it.
Wow! This Ap has been dramatically improved, you can quickly check to see the programmes for about a week ahead, go back to see what you missed, tap the segment and get a synopsis.
The grid view provides a good overview of what on Freeview at any time. There are other features I have not used and have yet to discover.
I do recommend this Ap.

Can’t detect location, can’t access the app!!!

Very disappointing as this app won’t load at all because it cannot detect my location. Location services is turned on, Freeview has access, and it says unsuccessful every time! Even when I enter my postcode it says unsuccessful. I’ve tried my work postcode as well which doesn’t work either, and several nearby post codes. All say unsuccessful! My WiFi is working fine, and other apps get my location fine. Please give me an option to pick my region!!

Extremely Disappointed

The new incarnation of this app no longer has a section where you can set and see when your favourites are next on. It’s also missing the explanation of the programme and when the programmes are repeated; a real backward step. It no longer shows my choices in my calendar app so I can’t check whether I have three or more clashing choices in advance to be able to reorganise. Very disappointing.

It seems to be missing the main point...

I have used the ‘old’ Freeview app for a couple of years and had got used to it’s funny ways: like displaying the wrong date at the top of the programme guide and crashing occasionally when you clicked on an entry. But, at least it did give me (usually) what must be the main point of this app - an integrated programme guide. This version displays the time slots but fails to add anything further about any programme when any slot is selected. So I have to turn my TV on to see what’s on - which kind of defeats the purpose of this app.
As an app developer myself, I have to question the apparent lack of testing done to this app. I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne. A mere conglomeration of some 1.9M people. Not really a quiet backwater.... please bring back detail about the programme listings.

Abysmal upgrade!!!!

What a disappointment. The guide, which is surely the most important aspect of this app, is less than useless. No description of the content of a program, so impossible to tell if it is a new program, or a repeat, or what it is about. You’ve managed to make an app that works into one that doesn’t. It looks slick, but doesn’t do the job it’s supposed to. Complete waste of space. I suggest the developers look seriously hard at the numerous negative reviews to this update, and go back to basics. A TV guide needs to give a simple overview of what’s on for the next couple of hours, and the opportunity to look further ahead on a channel basis - just like the guide used to, pre this update!!

Disappointing update

Before I could select an individual Channel and see what’s on for the day. Why did you remove that functionality? Also for easy quick navigation why don’t you use different colours for films, documentaries, etc..? Everything looks the same now and can’t tell a movie from a game show.

Nice app, but...

Title says it all. Nice app, but do have a couple of suggestions.
1. Please include whether the program has subtitles, audio description etc. 2. In the guide tab, why not have the channels listed on one screen. Once the user taps (double taps when VoiceOver is on) that particular channel, show all the programs for that channel. Of course the dates could still be listed above the list of channels. Hope these suggestions are of help and will be taken into consideration. Otherwise nice app, especially for VoiceOver users. Please keep it up.
