What have they done to it?

It’s now grossly irritating and virtually unusable… videos and ads popping up everywhere has made it sluggish and freezes/hangs all the time. I allow tracking to avoid ads but this seems to have changed recently too.

App feedback

The app used to be very good, since all the advertising has been added the app is very glitchy and closes frequently. It’s sometimes easier to read via the web although the webpage is glitchy also.

Too many ads and glitches

I’ve read the Mail for years. Until recently all was good but then the app started glitching and freezing. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling but that didn’t help. Also the number of ads seems to have increased.

Takes you back to page 1

Takes you back to page 1 after reading an article. Such a pain! Helpdesk have come back & told me to put in airplane mode whilst using. This does not work, as unless you’ve already opened the article whilst online, you cannot read any text or see photos. Do the developers actually try to use this app in real-time - it’s now awful since the latest upgrade!

App flaws / news quality

App runs very slow. News articles take too long to open and transition between photos.
The quality of the news articles has diminished lately. So much minor cleb nonsense.
And fed up with the clickbait use of sensational headlines to hook you in and then having to read an excessively lengthy article to find the snippet of information at the end. What a pain in the a…..
If no change I’m sure the won’t be a regular reader for very much longer.

ADS!!!!!!!!!

This app is being ruined by the ridiculous amount of pop up ads. 30 second videos every time you want to watch a clip and if I see another ad for Asda, which pop up a million times while you are trying to read a usually grammatically inaccurate article, I will scream. Sort it out, developers, this is getting ridiculous!!!
Also, the App is so slow and cumbersome now. What is going on? Have you all gone home and turned out the lights?

Infuriating ads!

Good content but ads are infuriating! They are designed to appear with normal scrolling of articles! Touching the ads is unavoidable and you then have to endure an ad or wait for a video to play that you did not ask or want to see! I just close the app! I will not be forced to watch ads that I haven’t intentionally selected. Used to be a good app but now ruined with the ad placement strategy!

Royal Kingdom

I can’t read a single article without being taken out of the app to download Royal Kingdom. It’s the most intrusive advert I’ve ever seen. Even if you carefully try and scroll past it half the time it still takes you to it. It’s like the advert has infected the app with more dominant code because it’s the same in The Sun. Why these adverts are allowed is beyond me. Please please ban these ads. All your other adverts sit happily in the background and don’t take over your phone.
EDIT: Seems to be resolved on this app and the Sun. Both solved on the same day. Thanks. Re-rating to 5 stars.

Seems DM news page now a showbiz thread

Since when does somebody’s potential pregnancy or some other bod’s decision to present some two bit programme deserve to be headline news? Fine, in the showbiz thread, but I look on the UK news thread for real news, if the DM even know what that is. I am fed up with seeing all these idiots, not to mention people’s comments in some social media column, being classed as news. Get a grip, DM. Please.

Killed by ads

They’ve recently launched ‘daily sponsor’ to the app which is an ad that seems to show up constantly and pretty much freezes the system.
Then you have the normal ads thrown in constantly when scrolling through.
Just unusable now. It’s no longer about news of the day…but about getting every penny out of the consumer. Half the articles are full of errors these days too. Editor anyone?

Recent updates make for clunky use.

Despite keeping this app up to date on my iPad, developers have not addressed the problem of not being able to “keep place” when reading any of the columns. You may be half way down the news column and when you use the back button, it immediately takes you back to the top section of the column. It’s very annoying and means you again have to scroll through the news items you have already to restore your “place”. This has been like this since an update in November. I already left feedback to bring this to developers’ attention. This has been ignored and advice given was to disconnect from the internet so I could retain my reading place. Some instructions in the software have been omitted spoiling the reading experience on this app.

Adverts

you can’t look at the photographs past picture 4 when the ads continually pop up one after another. I counted 24 times I closed an ad and was still on Picture 4 and that is still happening as of today and on every article I am reading. I have contacted the mail and they said it is a programming glitch and they’re looking at it. Me personally thinks it’s not a programming glitch and it’s just a way to generate more advertising revenue, I’ve since downloaded another news app and it’s much better and I can read articles and look at the pictures without being bombarded with 24 ads as many seconds left

Hidden lines in articles & blank pages

There seems to be a issue with the app display (I have an iPhone 14 Pro) as there are often blank white boxes and pictures which hide the last and first line of the nearest paragraphs. It’s very frustrating and often leads me to just closing the app and reading news elsewhere. I’m also in agreement with lots of others as the articles appear blank and I have to refresh the page a few times until the article appears. Been using the app for years and this is all new so hopefully they read the reviews as it’s time for an update to fix these new problems. Really like the ‘paper’ but these things are v off putting.

It’s good…. BUT….

I’ve used the app for a long time and overall I like it.
BUT….
For a long time, the rendering of the images in the text stream covers at least one line of the paragraph immediately before the image, preventing the reader from properly completing the story. It sometimes feels as if more than one single line of text is obscured so perhaps the problem is bigger than if appears.
Also, lately the article simply stops and a bundle of ad images appear at the end of the text, or at least I assume it’s the end. It was much better when there was a proper, defined “the end” to the text.
I am a subscriber, although I don’t really like the subscription app as much, it would be great to be able to log in and then choose to reduce or remove the advertising impact.
These things don’t stop me using the app, but they spoil what is otherwise a good tool.

Banned WTH

Hello,
Your account has been permanently de- activated for going against the Community Guidelines.
You are no longer allowed to post on MailOnline the Daily Mail or other Associated Newspapers Ltd sites using this or any other user profile. Well I keep track of my comments and obviously I must have been reported by some sad offended soul as recently lots of my comments were removed and then reinstated due to complaints . I don’t get this rag I mean it’s a crap paper but the forum is funny . My comments are very timid compared to some . Its pathetic in reality when you can’t have a point of view without being punished and believe me I never wrote anything derogatory.

Terrible.

An absolute joke of a media outlet. Stories are littered with spelling and grammar mistakes to the point where you sometimes don’t get what the journalist is trying to say.
Posts a lot of completely pointless articles contradicting themselves over and over again. Also slowly adding more and more ads which you’re unable to skip. Whether it’s as you open the app and you’re forced to look at ‘Todays Sponsors’ logo for 5 seconds before you can read the news, or it’s when you scroll past 2 pictures to get some 6 second ad you can’t skip. Or it’s when you try to watch a video and it forces a 30 second ad you cannot skip for a clip that lasts 15 seconds. Also half the time that ad completely takes over you’re phone where the sound is playing in the background even though you’ve forcefully close the app completely because the clip you wanted to watch has bugged out and won’t load. Forcing you to reset your phone completely to stop the ads audio from playing through your phone.
Basically all around the app is becoming a monetisation mess just forcing ads upon ads upon you. And if it’s not that it can be quite hard wading through the constant grammar issues that could be corrected by a 10 year old. I’d go elsewhere to get your news

Users of Mail Online beware

Using the Mail online app appears to allow the owners and a massive number of third parties to hoover up vast amounts of information from your phone/tablet.
Whilst it is possible to object to personalised ads via the privacy options offered to users, it does not appear to be possible to completely block the collection of data from your device via the privacy settings. You only have to scroll down to find and read the huge list of organisations that still have access to your data, even when you have switched off everything that you can. If this data wasn't useful to these organisation, they wouldn't want or need access to it. Just think about what personal information you might be inadvertently giving away in return for access to the site.
My inclination is to delete the app and use a browser that effectively blocks data collection and/or connect to the Mail online website via a VPN.

Not as up-to-date as the website

Simple, easy to use & you can organise the topic sections to your preference.
It has easier access to an article’s Comments section than the website BUT, for some reason, it doesn’t keep as up-to-date. The same stories (usually some dumb celebrity rubbish) tend to be the same headline all day while the website has moved on. One glaring example is it didn’t have the World Cup final result & writeup until the day after.
Is there a ‘refresh’ option on the app I should know about? This lag doesn’t make sense.

Crashing

App continually freezes. I have to say editorial content quality has dropped considerably over the last few years too. News items repeat themselves within the text, meaning you read the same lines 2 or even 3 times. Many items repeated by presenting them in different ways- example ‘I’m a celebrity’, Megan and Harry articles. Grammar and spelling is sometimes laughable. Does anyone proof the articles? Most of what’s reported isn’t news, it’s like an excerpt from ‘Hello’ magazine. Just off to re- boot my iPad for the 4th time this week to un- freeze the app again, in case there are any articles worth reading. Might just switch to The Sun instead.

Mail app

Like the app once I had refreshed it as it tended to crash. I like the option to add a comment to any of the articles and to be able to read other points of view. In addition, there are other specific sections such as sport or fashion etc away from the daily items. My preference takes in puzzles where there are 30+ to choose from. Pleased to have this app and I use every day.

ADVERTS RUINING IT.

Recently, this app has been ruined by intrusive adverts whenever you tap on a photo. Most of these ads are painfully stupid, too. You have to wait 3/4 seconds before you can dismiss them. I’ve never even seen anything I’d want to buy and I wouldn’t do even if I did!! I’ve noticed too that comments I make that don’t suit the newspaper’s agenda don’t appear at all. Not very balanced,is it? The content and reporting are going downhill too. Lots of petty, mindless little stories more suited to the Sun or Star and frequent grammatical lapses and duplicated sentences. Could be so much better if it concentrated on more serious topics. If these irritating ads continue,I think I’ll be deleting any time soon. They’ve ruined it!!

Patriotic publishers are becoming a rare breed and this ain’t one of them

Patriotic Conservatives are becoming as rare as the white rhino. This so called right leaning publication is just as bad as the rest of the shadow banning, Marxist following, left leaning media, but this is under the veneer of being supporters of the British people. Anyone daring to air their patriotic views in this publications comments sections will soon be shadow banned and their comments will disappear or in my case, not even shown. Just because my views are patriotic to my nation. People like me are being pushed further and further away from what is mainstream publications. I’m not radical, extreme and my opinions are not abusive, but this publication wants to silence people like me.

BACKWARDS

The most backwards app I’ve EVER encountered. If you accidentally like/dislike a comment, you can’t unlike/like it, which is especially awful if you’ve accidentally disliked a sensitive one whilst scrolling, which is easily done if you’re right-handed. You can’t edit/delete comments either. The amount of comments that they don’t allow to be posted is a joke - No reason for it whatsoever. You’ll often like/dislike a comment and your arrow-contribution will just disappear. Perhaps the most frustrating thing is replying to a comment only to find it showing as a reply to one of your own comments. Overall a seriously backwards app with consistently ignored issues and really annoying ads in the photo section of stories. And please allow us the use of emojis.

Slow and buggy since 2020 with too many Z-lister articles

Since the beginning of 2021 this app has progressively gotten worse on the basis it keeps hanging, adverts half load and then the application will not swipe or scroll smoothly. Multiple stories often contain references to Z-list media stars who should not be given any further coverage as they are a waste of oxygen and the comment section merely invites trolls to make stupid comments invariably from a completely uneducated standpoint on the stories in question. I have had it with The Daily Mail and rather than look at their garbage I have since purchased a subscription to a worthy newspaper who do not harass you with pointless adverts and grammatically incorrect or factually incorrect stories.

The paper is only good for toilet paper!

I was happy to keep the app on my phone and view the stories mainly for the laughable bigoted views in the commentary!
But in the last few days cookie consent changes have meant having to have the option to reject vendor legitimate access to phone data which I have tried to reject, yet the settings sneakily allow you to toggle off the legitimate interest from vendors but once you scroll back you the those you have toggled off, the setting has reset to allowing legitimate interest. It’s literally impossible to restrict vendor legitimate interest in phone data. And on that bomb shell I have deleted this infuriating app. I suggest you all do the same if you appreciate your privacy!

Excellent customer support

I reported an issue with the Olympics tab which had disappeared from the IOS version of the Mail App, I did this by simply using the send us feedback link in settings. I then received fast and friendly responses and happily the issue was resolved by uninstalling and reinstalling the app and checking the latest IOS update was installed (which it was), turns out that it was a known issue that had been brought to the attention of Apple to resolve.
10 out of 10 to the MailOnline customer app support team for service.

Too many adverts and makes your phone crash

There are way to many adverts on this App, you can’t scroll through pictures or watch videos without being overloaded with Ads!
Every time I get pushed into an advert I close the app and stop reading and browsing, surely people are doing the same and this cannot be a good thing for them?
The next thing is that the app constantly seems to crash and run slow and overwork my phone, I thought it was because I had an older phone but I’ve upgraded and it’s still the same problem on just this App alone…

Troll’s paradise

If you are someone who likes to take constant online bullying and name calling from trolls looking for no other excuse to pick online fights with you for doing nothing more than comment on anything at all, no matter what it is, no matter how trivial the news story is, and no matter what you say, how you say it, and how middle of the road your comment may be, then this is the app for you. There’s plenty nasty people just waiting for your pleasant middle of the road factual comments so they can vent years worth of pent up aggression directed right at you. Do you think the people at the Mail are bothered? No, not at all, in fact they let it happen. So if you yourself are a troll, and are looking for a new app to target some fresh online faces, then is definitely up your street. After years of having this app, I am deleting it for good, as the saying goes, be kind, so I’m being kind to myself and removing myself from this hurt filled abuse platform.

Love my mail on line

The daily mail has helped me cope I lost my husband a year ago in April. No doctor identified it As Covid in desperation I tel 111 it was too late. When they came my husband was delirious!! they told me they would not resuscitate him. I was in shock,I could not speak to him in the hospital. It took me five weeks to gets funeral that I was not allowed to go to::. I was licked up for twelve weeks, no one could come and sit with me and hold me and comfort me .and not knowing anything about our finances or how to do online banking or anything else to run a home as my husband did everything . We had no children and I am 81years old and had to learn technology to survive , I lived in a nightmare and still do. The daily mail was the only thing I used to let me know what was going on in the outside world. We always bought the daily mail and the mail on Sunday. My finances since my husbands death are greatly reduced and I can no longer afford to pay for them. I am grateful for the free Mail on line I am able to get. Though I do miss the full paper. We knew each other for sixty two years and they were the best years of my life I miss him every second of the day. Thank you I am reading this to help me sleep and keep up with the outside world Thank. You hazel Mills

Good fun enjoyable read!

I love the mail online, really informative articles, and a good fun read, the only online news app that I have ever enjoyed!!!
The only thing is I don’t feel “well informed “ by just sticking to the Mail online, I would love to read more articles favouring the other side to the story, even if I don’t agree with them, I would like to read more gritty articles that offer a different way of thinking about what is happening in the world today. For example I was told the other day that COVID has left suffers with Type 1 diabetes, this is terrible but does this now mean more funding and research will be allocated to finding a better way to manage it ???
Thank you for reading my review, I will go back to reading about the colour of Kim’s Bikini now!!!! 🤣

Review

The popular forum gives a chance for many people to publish their opinions. The articles are mostly well-written in a style that ‘ordinary’ readers can understand. The worst column is Sci-Tech, where a team of militant atheists commentators are allowed to abuse and bully anyone who disagrees with them. One of them somehow puts up 100s of fake votes at a time. They often get comments that speak back to them deleted. Their pseudonyms are Unsecure Team, Not the NSA, Welsh 4 Ever, Realist, Peter, Jimbob, and Bodcd. When they’re banned, they just come back with new names (eg ‘Not the NSA’ has been ‘NSA’, ‘He has Arisen’). They put many people off looking at and commenting on what should be interesting articles. That’s why I can’t give Mail Online 5 stars!

Good read

Plenty of information. Different columns for different subjects. Read all over the world. Join in the comments & you will get different opinions from different countries. There is the usual crackpots & trolls on there but you will get to know them & ignore them. Try it & if it’s not for you you can always uninstall it. It has made lockdowns more interesting. The one thing against it is it is a terrible time waster. Two hours will pass like five minutes.

Frustrating

We have had this app for some years now and maintain using it because we quite like the content. However, the app continually freezes or jumps about to the extent where we have to delete it from the iPad and reinstall. This seems to solve the problem in the short term but inevitably the problem reoccurs after a perhaps a week or so. We regularly update the iPad version and do not have the same issue with any of the other apps so please Mail on Line, get your act together and solve this problem as I can see from other reviews we are not the only ones to be suffering with this issue.

Bloody Awful App

We all know the Daily Mail is a guilty pleasure used to fill up the boredom experienced waiting in a hold queue, sitting on the loo or at four in the morning on a night shift
We know the reports are rubbish, poorly researched, badly written by 12 year old interns and full of spelling mistakes
However if you like common sense suggestions referred to as life hacks, a blonde of the day with big boobs who the editor quite fancies and is featured daily, maybe endless articles on US celebs who contribute nothing to life or car adverts masquerading as articles, this is the paper for you
By the way, the pop up adverts get on your wick, the app always reverts to the top when you get half way down the page and sometimes if you are lucky the whole thing freezes
On the plus side it’s free, as they can’t get any idiot to pay for it

Errors in content and layout

Content Marketing and IT/ programmers need to check their work on this. First of all programming, it is so frustrating to have downloaded the iPad version to find articles cut off around images, this looks to be a formatting issue in the form, meaning I can’t read the end almost on every article. .This needs sorting out. Content market, why do you repeat the content so many times in the same article? Spelling mistakes , many of which look like lazy auto corrects. Placing content in wrong sections and repetitively is really annoying. Some sections are not updated often enough. That said it is a good spread of news but could be much better.

No longer the best news app

This used to be by far the best daily news app, and the interface is still the best by far, but the number of obtrusive adverts is increasing beyond what is reasonable. You get served 30 second long adverts every time you scroll through just a handful of pictures in a story. Who's going to sit there and watch yet another 30 second advert for a stupid game when all they want to do is read the paper? And this happens every minute or so (if not more). I am SO close to deleting this for good, after being a fan for years. If i could pay £10 for a year's ad-free subscription, I would. Or even maybe £2.49 per month? But it's just driving me absolutely mad, and making me not want to use it in its current ad-infested form.

Keeps Crashing

This app keeps crashing lately every time I swipe to the next article. Can’t work out if it’s punishing me for turning off the stupid and infuriating ads. Anyway...the DM is rubbish really. Trash articles often written by illiterate 12 year olds - actually probably an insult to 12 years olds who can spell much better. Often recycled news, occasional decent articles written by adults. Oh but the DM readers comments are often priceless and worth there weight in gold. Honestly read a pathetic article and then gear up to read the comments. Really don’t know how half the media survives these days. It’s trash click bait, full of lies and half truths and often politically motivated. But it’s free...apart from having the worst ads rammed down your throat. Honestly, I refuse to even look at them just out of spite. Then a DM reader commented on how to turn them off. Now I get a message everyday telling I’ve turned them off. I KNOW I DID! I’m not giving in though.

Do not download this app

Have to sit through full ads for 30 seconds if you want to see a video linked to the news story you are reading. NO WAY TO EXIT OUT.
Every time I try to look at a photo the app redirects me to another video site which I have to then restart the app and scroll down to find the story I was half way through reading. All this makes me want to kill myself out of pointless frustration. Great comments by real people is the only reason I bother now. Everything else on here is swinging dangerously hard left and bias and the ‘reporters’ are getting dumber by the day. I USED TO LOVE THIS APP, NOW I HATE IT ENOUGH TO WRITE LONG RANTING COMMENTS which I will do on a regular basis until things go back to the way they were. Please join me in airing these regular frustrations and maybe one day a boss at the site will actually come across these constant complaints.........aaaaand breath.

App won’t open

Until two hours ago, this app has worked fine but now won’t open and instantly closes as soon as I click on it. I have tried uninstall/reinstall several times but it makes no difference!
As others have said too, there is an ad pop up when looking at images which when you close it, leaves, DONE, frozen in the top left corner.

Good app but inconsistant

For the second time in just a few weeks I am unable to read any of the content. The message that my subscription has lapsed keeps popping up. It hasn't. I can read the articles perfectly well on my iPad mini but the iPhone insists that I cannot. I tried deleting and reinstalling the app several times, no change. Turned off phone for 24 hours. No change. I can’t get into the subscription section. When I look at cancelling the subscription on my iPad it says I can continue to read until the monthly renewal date of 22 June. Going round in circles. Ridiculous!

Adverts

I don’t ever write reviews, however the constant advertisements that pop up while on the daily mail app have pushed me to write one. I enjoy reading the daily on my phone and tablet and have for some time now, but lately I have been switching it off to go on other news apps as the adverts are getting to much. They seem to pop up on every article I try to read and I have to wait until the X at the top of the advert appears before I can click it off. Other than that I like the daily mail app and the way it is set out.

Newzit

MailOnline has been ‘infected’ by Newzit. Every article in every heading is affected with totally inappropriate puerile headlines. It appears midway between every feature causing nothing but frustration. It is impossible to avoid. The latest imposition makes it impossible to avoid accepting notifications. No other choice but to accept. Seems like MailOnLine has been taken over and adopted procedures straight out of the Stasi handbook. Until recently I really enjoyed reading the MailOnLine. Not any longer. I’m out.

It crashes constantly

Despite ha I gotta the iPhone 11 PRO this app continually crashes every other article refreshing where I had scrolled to. Often it take a 19-15 attempts to read one story. That is of course when I’m not being bombarded by adverts worst of all they are often adverts that directly mock the story in reading for example a story about a boy stabbed to death actually advertised a new pack of ceramic knives... I mean seriously? This used to be a platform for reading the news but not it’s just an ad campaign with awful reliability, horrendous journalism in the form of bad spelling (usually 1-3 per article) or just sensationalist stories. Some headlines are borderline lies exaggerated purely for impact. Coronovirus is one example of this constant scare mongering. I have a lot of respect for journalists buts it’s been a long time since many worked on this app.
1. Fix the constant crashes
2. Fix the ad frequency
3. Fix the spelling and sack the chief editor
4. Remove sensational inaccurate stories and the journalists writing them...

Too repetitive

The app is fairly good apart from when it crashes but I guess my problem is more the paper itself. It’s just getting too repetitive in what is on to read, I mean just this morning we have 17 stories on Harry and Meghan stepping down. Now I know yes it’s a big deal but 17 is just excessive when the rest of the news has just 13 stories without clicking load more. I’m not really interested in John Virgos view on the matter or most others for that matter but it is the same all the time, stories just dragged out and split up taking up all the slots, why not just put them all into 2 or 3 at the most and have done with it and start showing stories/news of other things that are actually happening in the UK and around the world.

Ruined by Ads and decrease in UK content

Although not my usual paper of choice I've always said that for Functionality, the Mail Online app was one of the best there was.
However, more and more I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the way the ads interrupt its use.
Ads used to be small and unobtrusive at the bottom. Now they pop up all the time when scrolling through photos, often cannot be cleared for a long time (or with increasingly harder to find close ad crosses). More and more they have loud music or voiceovers, which require immediate volume adjustment while waiting for the ad to clear.
My other main gripe with the app is that despite being set to UK news, the stories are losing their uk focus. Yes world news is important but remember that the target audience is in the U.K. - headlines or articles in dollars, articles that clearly would be classed as "local" news in certain US states are not relevant in the UK. Often with key UK stories pushed down the order or barely mentioned.
Sometimes I just want to find out what's going on. Not trawl through ads or pick my way through articles pandering to a US audience.

Stories jumping

I do love this app and use it every day. However it is incredibly frustrating when you’re scrolling down reading the stories and all of a sudden they jump and reorder, and you’re seeing stories you’ve already read and some you haven’t have jumped to the top. I want it to update but not while I’m in the middle of reading it!
And there is a problem with the comments in the same way, as you’re scrolling through all of a sudden they jump and reorder. Really buggy and annoying.

It’s good but....

I’ve been ready MailOnline fir about 10 years. Generally I like it and much of the enjoyment is ready other points of view by other commentators.
Over the past year or two however and in particular with their YS Correspondents I have noticed a definite anti Trump, anti conservative slant in some of the articles. Worse still the associated comments seems to have been skewed in favour of the article and this is very noticeable. It happens with a certain core of journalists not all of them, this is how you can detect it if you have been using the app fir a while.
Overall a good app but be aware if this as it can spoil it.

Time to call it a day

Pros: it’s free and has some entertainment value.
Cons: the sensationalist headlines, the lazily or cheap articles eg the quotes from well known people based on someone’s tweet they liked (but didn’t state those words), the long ads on videos, the illiterate showbiz journos and some lesser known ones in the news section, the paid for ads masquerading as articles, the gushing trolling articles on minor “stars”, the obnoxious, illiterate and intellectually challenged readers with their ill thought out comments, the inconsistent political stance (even more so since the new editor took charge), the hypocrisy, the bugs that never get fixed despite promises (eg replying to a comment via your profile submits a new separate comment), and having Piers Morgan as an editor at large writing sensationalist articles geared towards maintaining his fragile ego. I’m sure I’ve forgotten other failings but I think I’ve made my point.

Appalling journalism

The adverts have taken over this App - why on earth must they have ads with sounds!
The standard of the reporters is terrible. There does not appear to be anyone editing the published news reports. There is endless repetition and far too many needless photos. A lot of the published articles appear to be ripped off from other news sources and web sites without any real investigative reporting by Daily Mail reporters. The most trivial and non news stories are given more prominence than genuine news. It would appear that Daily Mail management do not read the comments left by their readers because many articles draw a lot of criticism about the standard of the reporting. Leaving comments is hit and miss as to whether it is published. The layout of the App is quite good and is easy to navigate.

Terrible writing and reporting

I used to like reading the mail app. A spare moment at work or at home and I’d open it up and scroll through. The spelling has got worse and worse, the sensationalism regarding everything is so annoying now. Using Fahrenheit for hot weather and Celsius for cold in the same artical to make the shift in temperature seem extreme. The spoilers they put up without warning. The wrong facts about everything from a make of car which clearly has a picture to identify but a reporter who can’t work it out so guesses another make. But most of all it’s the hard swing to the left since the new editor took charge. I have deleted this app now and really don’t miss it. I am trying the daily express app. Couple of the same problems with spelling and caps for things they don’t need, but still better so far. Daily Mail, sack this editor and return to what you were!!

Great app, shame about the spelling errors

I find this app very handy as I can access news when ever I have the time. However, I feel this app needs some much needed work. Almost every article has spelling errors, to the point where it just gets so frustrating hence writing this review. I also feel that it needs an adjustment in what it feels is more important news. Having to skim past the lastest celeb articles to get to ‘real news’ such as the issues in London and brexit and what’s going on in the world not ‘a royal being difficult over a tiara’ headline news on the app.

Frustrating

So disappointing and frustrating.
Other newspaper apps appear to be very good but the Mail app does not step up to the mark.
I can be scrolling down for a news item and the next minute I am on the women’s fashion page or celebrities which interests me not one iota and sometimes when pressing the back button it does not return to the previous page but goes all the way back to the beginning , then I have the tedious task of scrolling all the way back down again.

Fear-mongering rag

If you’re looking for a newspaper written by a gaggle of illiterate interns then this is the one for you! Littered with spelling mistakes and grammatical errors which only enhance the appeal of articles scaring women away from smear tests/LLETZ, attempting to incite panic over sharks being in OUR waters (not even British sharks, shock, horror!), and the daily copied content from Mumsnet/Buzzfeed. Oh and the super informative pop up videos every 2 seconds, they’re not at all distracting when you do eventually manage to wade through all the codswallop and find something you want to read. Don’t forget, you can also find out where Daniela Westbrook is on holiday currently, which man Katie Price is with this week, and the stalking of people who may have a remote “celebrity” connection.

Frustrating

Mail on line has potential to be the perfect app to keep up with current news. Unfortunately it is badly let down by appalling "proof" reading .
The number of errors in type is distracting to news articles and in these days of auto correct it's hard to see why they are not picked up.
Also when a high percentage, sometimes 60/70% , of the twenty main articles are about the same event just dressed up differently it is often not even an interesting read. Maybe I'm alone in not needing to see best/worst dress at the Met gala in half a dozen different articles for example, once is surely enough. I would prefer to read more news worthy items.

Good app, few issues

I like the layout and it’s clear to see everything, although it’s annoying you can only load chosen articles and not browse as freely as you can online.
Too many ads. I understand they’re needed for funding etc but too many and so irritating when trying to read and sometimes they’re so frequent.
Sometimes app randomly crashes and when you reopen, new articles have loaded and you can’t find the one you were on when it crashed. Or pictures won’t load etc.
Also, not an app issue but so many typos in articles!
Saying all this, I like the app and use it most days.

Illiterate and desperate

Focussing largely on telling me that I’ve been living practically every facet of my life wrong according to self proclaimed and hitherto unheard of Australian experts, most of the articles are penned by authors who clearly skipped school lessons where grammar and punctuation featured.
Similarly, watching the carousel of articles spin round to randomly select the latest headline one does it no credit.
Nor does the use of misplaced, even randomly fully capitalised words.
The comments section doesn’t allow a search facility, so checking to see what response your comment has generated is impossible without scrolling through every single comment - and given the slightest tweak to a headline makes that a new article, reviewing comments reaches a new low.
If I wanted to read what Australian journos thought, I’d browse Australian papers, but the over reliance on articles from down under renders most articles questionable as to their relevance for a British audience.
Sack the incompetent writers, proof read the drivel they’re posting, and stop rehashing ‘the 10 most oft repeated hacks’ every one should ignore for the 10th time of posting that we can’t do without in our lives’

Improvements seem to delete previous available facilities.

On my iPad I could post some news items to Facebook for friends to view. This facility appears now not to be available. Only option is to send by email. Don’t have Twitter account.
Replies to comments are difficult to find especially if number of comments reach many hundreds or thousands.
Pictures sometimes don’t load leaving a blank image within the article.
Video clips always preceded with an ad that cannot always be stopped if of no interest or wanted.

Review

Although the news is generally up to date the headlines are very misleading. The Mail appears to take perverse satisfaction from their continual Police bashing, the DM is quick to highlight the benefits milked by a certain section of immigrants but full of mock outrage when people react to perceived unjustness. Also, the continual and numerous articles on relatively minor incidents such as most recently Ant ( or Dec’s ) alcohol related minor road traffic crash, Tracey Cunningham and the like.
However, it is accessible and if one ignores these articles quite enjoyable.
As a footnote - the pop up Ads are very annoying and are simply deleted at the first opportunity.

Adverts ruin this App

Great and regularly updated news! I would have given this App 5* if it had not been for the recent adverts! I fully agree with the other reviewers that I understand advertising is a necessary thing. However, a recent Easter advert by a chocolate company I will not name (out of kindness) is absolutely WRONG! Just pops out of nowhere and lingers on the screen. Well, I can tell you I most certainly won’t be buying those Easter eggs! And the new 30 second adverts! No way am I sitting through those. You are actually losing the amount of time I bother with this App because of these rude, forceful adverts.

Ads ads ads

I understand advertising is funding, however they pop up continually and are taking longer and longer to close down. I don’t wait the 30 seconds to watch an ad before watching a clip of news story as really don’t have enough hours in my life to waste.
I have posted a comment on several occasions, which have not been offensive or used foul language and they have never appeared.
All depends how much time you have really, if you’re not like me and don’t have hours to spare, just use it to flick through headlines but if you have the time to sit through ads and the patience to continually close down ads when reading a story then it a great app.
