Brilliant!

This is easily the best language dictionary I have seen for any language in any medium. It is a great reference tool but also works brilliantly as a learning tool, with clear and helpful examples of usage, easy cross-referencing, the ability to build vocabulary lists and the ability to search by conjugated forms. The technology is both impressive and intuitive. Great value. Only wish I had bought it sooner.

Love using this app! I use it everyday and it gets better and better with every update! I like it doesn't require you to know the stroke order. Live saver!

A great resource for studying Japanese

I've had this app for a couple of years now and it's been awesome. Simple to use, loads of examples for each entry and it's also continually improving!

Flawless

A lot of new features have been added recently (searching by sentences is a favourite of mine) and all great. Now that the handwriting feature can recognise kanji in an incorrect stroke order this app is pretty much flawless.

Perfect

Clean layout. Intuitive. Good flashcard system and nice example sentences. Very useful study aid and helpful out in the world.

Excellent

Comprehensive, uncluttered and incredibly fast. I remember suffering through my slow, blurry electronic dictionary and its borderline worthless Genius 3rd Edition dictionary for J-E and E-J. This completely surpasses it for a tiny fraction of the price.

すごい!

緑アプリケーションが好きですよ。
Gave it 5 stars but I think it needs to include a standalone flash card creator instead of having to bookmarking the kanji you can type up the kanji and have it search for you when creating!
Even still, great app!

Complete scam

Don't waste your money on this. Had it for a few seconds and it couldn't even recognize a basic Japanese word like 完ぺき. Total scam!

Truly Amazing!

I can't count the number of times that this app has assisted me in my Japanese language studies. It is so easy to use and so well presented. It can also be fully customised as a handy revision tool by bookmarking your favourites words or phrases. Why hasn't anyone left a review for this yet?! I'm over the moon with this app. :)

Midori is Excellent!

This is a very comprehensive and useful dictionary and well-designed.
I have been living, working and studying in Japan for 40 years and am fairly competent in the Japanese language both spoken and written and I found Midori to be very helpful.
It has a very clear layout and excellent sentence examples of the language. You can use the English, Roma-ji or Kana keyboard (built-in to iPad) and even write kanji on the screen to find what you want.
Another user's review said that it was no good at kanji recognition but I have not found this to be the case. You write a kanji on the screen with your finger and Midori comes up with several of the closest matches, then you choose the one you want. It does want the correct stroke order, though, so maybe the other reviewer was not writing the kanji correctly.
You can show all the kanji in various ways, plus radicals and kana. It is useful if you can read kana but these are not difficult to learn Midori also shows how to write the kanji in the correct stroke order, and you can practice your own writing on screen.
Another dictionary I use constantly is Jisho for my desktop Apple. This is also excellent although, there again, another review did not like it. I have found Jisho to be most useful in transliterating both ways and it has found some very obscure words for me. Both these apps are a very useful adjunct to my Andrew Nelson dictionary book.
Altogether, these apps are incredibly good and incredible value. Highly useful.

Soo useful

This is and still is the best japanese dictionary i have ever used. Replaced my paper dictionary a while back with this, it's so easy to find the words you're after in mere seconds, unlike my paper dictionary that used to take ages as you tracked down the radicals, well worth the price.

Great but not the best japanese dictionary

Great dictionary with plenty of example sentences and hand writing recognition. (but you need to enter the kanji about 5-10 times before it recognises it!)
but not the best dictionary out there. The app called 'japanese' looks better, the user interface is much better than this app and it contains a load of features not included in this application.

Perfect!

I have studied Japanese formally for four years in both the UK and Japan and this is the best study aid I have come across. It is a great replacement for a denshi jisho (in fact I think it's much better and FAR cheaper). This app is easy to use and has lots of vocab, example sentences, kanji flashcards, and the kanji drawing feature is really useful. I would recommend this app to anyone wanting to learn Japanese at any level. 10/10.

Invaluable app

App is a must-have for anyone who is serious about studying Japanese. The best feature is by far the ability to hand write kanji and have the app recognise them and give you their meaning. Really invaluable when you come across unknown characters and much faster than a traditional kanji dictionary look up. Also very good as a general dictionary with example sentences and verb formation tables

Favourite Japanese dictionary app

Out of all the apps I've tried, this is the one I always go to when I need to look up a word. The handwriting recognition is really great, though I have encountered a few issues with it sometimes. The one I remember the most is that I can never get the thing to recognise the character 部 no matter how perfect my stroke order is. There are probably some other problem characters out there too. But overall, really great app!

Simple. Efficient. Beautiful.

This dictionary application for Japanese is fantastic. I have not come across any other app that offers so much, especially for those who have an intermediate to advanced knowledge of the language.

Useful, but unintuitive...

Having to select which database to search through based on:
E-J
J-E
Romaji
Names
Is just annoying...
Also it's aesthetically bland and this harms the functionality by taking away from the layout in my opinion...
That said it does the job and is quite comprehensive. The keyboard selection tabs are BRILLIANT.

Fantastic help

I am really just starting my Japanese learning but this dictionary is a massive help to me! And at a cheap price compared to a lot of the dictionaries in book shops! Very easy to look up using kana.

Invaluable reference tool

This Japanese-English / English-Japanese kanji dictionary is a must-have reference for Japanese language students, featuring not only the translations but also examples of usage. I think this dictionary is best for non-native speakers - Japanese users would probably be better off with a fully-fledged dictionary like Wisdom.
I use both Midori and Wisho Touch, although I find myself using Midori most of the time. I like the latter for its audio feature (although some of the pronunciations are a bit off) and the camera feature that lets you use your iPad/iPhone's camera to recognize kanji. Wisho Touch also makes use of furigana, which is a nice touch. However, Midori is more accurate (some of the furigana are just plain wrong in Wisho, eg "otokogi") and to me seems more contemporary. In addition, Midori's many examples of a word in use are very useful for providing context.

stroke order is too strict!

love the app but the stroke order is too strict! the apple chinese kanji input is easier as it can guess what you trying to write even if the stroke Order is imcorrect.
