STORE ROUTES & USE OFFLINE
With Maps 3D you’ll have the option to plan, record and share your routes, turning your iPhone into a fully-fledged GPS device so you can log key coordinates and elevations. 3D maps for the 3D world we live in...
Discovering that these 3D maps existed was a revelation! See at a glance the terrain and having the ability to revolve your perspective around areas and features on the map is really useful.

Very good app
Not perfect but well worth the money. It allowed me to find the nearest hills to where I live in Oxfordshire, UK, which is all I wanted. The ability to increase the apparent gradient is an essential and well implemented feature.

Good app, but no version for the iPad
Good app. I really like its 3D layout of maps, but unfortunately you can’t get a full screen version for the iPad even though I paid for it.

Terrible clunky app
This is one of the least intuitive apps I’ve ever used. The interface is clunky and tries to over complicate things when it would be better just sticking to being an offline open source map. Trying to find a location in somewhere like Canada is nearly impossible in the fly as place names only appear when you hover over the location for a while. Even on wifi half the maps don’t load fully. Waste of even the small amount of money it cost to get the ‘pro’ version, I won’t be trusting it on a hike.

Great app! Had no issues at all even at the top of Scarfell pike
This app successfully helped us navigate around the 5 highest peaks of the Lake District in severe rain fast winds and even worse visibility and the app still never dropped gps or bugged out, and barely uses any battery so thank you making a reliable easy to use and relatively cheap app!!

Not impressed by quality of the maps
The design of the app and its interface is quite good but the maps are absolutely no match to the Ordinance Survey maps. Map colour is pale, tracks are barely visible and most of the place names are too small and to make the matter worse the more you zoom in, smaller they get!
And for 3D view, I haven’t tried the app on mountains but on hills the 3D view of the app is just a useless gimmick

Support please
I tried looking for support before giving a one star rating, but the link took me to a video of a man on a mountain trek using the app. This wasn’t very helpful. I purchased the app for my Apple Watch. So far I have been unable to view a map on my device, although I have successfully downloaded maps onto my iPhone. If the developer is reading this please could you help me sort this out as I want to be happy with my app purchase and to use it.

Looks ok so far but Apple Watch support needs lots of improvement
Needs complications icon for Apple Watch faces, and the ability to move around the map on the watch.
I had hoped to just use this app for planning a days snowboarding off piste just using the Apple Watch series 4, but the watch interface is very limited right now.

Brilliant
Just perfect. Whether I'm going walking, biking, skiing, even sailing. If I'm going abroad for a bit. If I'm going somewhere with poor data coverage. Just download the appropriate area to maps 3D and enjoy the brilliant interface and 3Dness. I also love the way I can create routes for running, walking or cycling. These are uploadable to my Garmin. I can also save gpx tracks for geotagging photos.

If you’re a hiker then this app is your best buddy
I’ve been using Maps 3D for a few years now and find it indispensable for mapping my hikes and guiding me when out walking.
I do a lot of walking in the UK and often use it’s route creation features to setup my walk before setting off and then just periodically check I’m on the right track while out walking. I also do a lot of hikes in the wilderness of Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. This is where I find the offline maps most useful as a mobile phone signal is rarely available out there!
I always use the tracking feature and this is one of the few apps that has very little impact on my iPhone battery life. I can be out all day in the wilderness and still return back to civilisation with 30% or more battery power.
I’ve contacted support on a number of occasions to report minor issues and offer “new feature” suggestions and always found them to be responsive and extremely helpful.
I’ve tried a number of the other “specialised” hiking apps, but always return to using Maps 3D because it does what it says on the tin and does it very well. Keep up the great work guys.

Terrific
We've used this all round Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia and it has been great not only for hiking but getting around towns too, especially if you don't have a local sim. We've also used it hiking in the U.K. and the same applies - one of the very few essential apps on the iPhone.

Wonderful for outdoor

One request would be to improve the management of the downloaded maps; 1) Refresh - to reload the map with the latest tiles, 2) Unload - to keep the map name and area information but to delete the tiles and save space on the phone, 3) Reload - to reload an unloaded map.

Great app
I use this app for cycling and it's great. The ability to plan a route within the app is very well implemented. It's also easy to follow a pre-planned route from a gpx file. Downloading maps for offline use is well implemented (you can have multiple downloaded "rectangle" maps). I tried most of the "big name" running/cycling apps but came back to this one.

The best all round/worldwide hiking app?
After the demise of EveryTrail, I set out to find a replacement.
Tried 6 or 7 different apps and finally narrowed it down to either this or GeoFlyer 3D.
This is the better all rounder because -
1. It has worldwide coverage with several types of (free) mapping available to download.
2. Easy to import .gpx routes - just click on the file in the browser and 'Open in' offers the Maps 3D app.
3. Very configurable - the settings menu gives you a lot of options to fine-tune the app.
4. Comprehensive progress stats mid-route.
Route planning feature works well (as long as you want to follow a marked track) and is very useful for looking at distances and elevation profiles for potential routes.
Track recording in the background doesn't seem to use up much battery (<5%/hr iPhone6)
Overall, it's an excellent app and I've yet to find any major flaws.
For future versions, it would be great to see... the two things that GeoFlyer does better -
1. Estimated duration of a planned route. Yes, everyone walks at different speeds but it's still useful to have a baseline to work from.
2. A little faster to pan/zoom around the map please, with the ability to zoom-in one level further. Even if there's no gain in detail, it's good to be able to magnify the display more at current position eg. at a junction of tracks.

Works very well
Heading up into the Austrian Alps, I just set this recording and walk wherever I want. When it is time to head back just a quick glance at the screen shows me the quickest path-or the most picturesque! Comprehensive stats are listed at any point of your journey and the whole track can be forwarded by email, viewed on Google Earth, or shared on Facebook. It's very cool.

10 days hiking in Switzerland. Didn't put a foot wrong. Simple to use, yet provides great data and information about your hike. I have used others in past, but nothing I have found is as good as this. Best "outdoor" app I have ever used.

Thia is a great app. I use it for country hill walking in the UK. Once you've spent a little time understanding how the app works, it will guide you accurately wherever you are. Also, and it should not be underestimate - if you need to contact the creator of the app you get an almost instant and personal reply. Well worth a 5 star rating.

The BEST cycling & Hiking App
After having tried so many different apps, there is simply no app that comes anything close to this. Just superb. It has all the functionality you will need in a single app. Because the app has so many features and geared towards use on the move, some UI elements are not the most intuitive. But stick with and you will simply love it!

Brilliant app and really great fast support, thought there was an issue but it was how I'd attached my iPhone, the off button kept being pushed :). But re support was fast and helpful, luckily I figured out it was user stupidity. The app has really opened up the countryside around where I live and now I can do a 60:40 on/off road commute every day. Awesome.

It really is the best there is out there. I've tried a lot of running/cycling apps and overall M3D wins. I travel around the world and run wherever I land so I had an opp. to check it out in a lot of places. It does need one major improvement though: the ability to connect to my HR meter so I can analyse my hr zones etc. Very important for many. I hope you'll get there soon!

Not bad - but room for improvement
I purchased this app because I've been looking for a way to create routes for use with Cyclemeter. It's not bad, but has a few annoying features. It needs a landscape view. It zooms far too easily accidentally when moving the map to navigate a longer route. And most annoying of all, it only does the snap to roads on calculation of the track, which as a result needs to be done regularly, so as not to miss an unanticipated diversion. Lastly on completion of a planned route there seems to be no way to get a rapid full screen view of the whole route, and though I can easily save a route its not clear how I can cancel it and restart with a single tap.
However, I will persevere with this app because some things are very good. The cursor positioning is good, the off-line maps and elevation data are good, and the export and import with Open-In to and from other apps is excellent. Not money wasted at all, this app is better than many I've tried. An iPad version would be great, too.

Downloaded the app and couldn't be more impressed with the features. Once you have an everytrail account it really comes into it's own. My only request is that the route planning feature was a bit more accurate around town , but works great on public footpaths etc

Excellent for cycling or walking
Really good planning tool that lets you see the height profile of a route. The map base is very detailed and really good to have cycle routes included. iPad version would be much appreciated.

I have been testing many trekking apps before but this is a best of all of them. Offline 3d topo maps, low power consumption and my iPhone (in protective case) made me to leave my trusted Garmin at home.

Good ideas but need more work
I have been trying a a few off road offline apps over the years, there is a few good one. I like the idea behind this one the terrain view is great and has shown some improvement over recent months, like the full screen view works fine on the IPad 2, the new changes to the 3D view by dragging two fingers up or down to adjust the angle of 3d view seem to work intermittently on the iPad 2. The map down load has improved, although I do still get problems with open cycle maps view. Could use a version for the iPad at the moment there is no landscape view. All in all good offline app with downloadable maps from Open Street Maps for when your no where near a data connection. Easy to use. Many thanks, keep up the good work.

Only has iPhone interface
WARNING, I bought this app thinking it had the iPad interface. Instead it is a small iPone. Hard to read. A waste of money! Suggestion to developer - get it iPad ready. The 3D needs to be on a bigger screen.
I should add this could be a phenomenal App if on the iPad.

Best off road GPS so far
I've been looking for gps device for trail riding to help me explore new areas on my enduro bike.
This app is the best one I have found to date, but could use a couple of more features.
1) a way to plan your route in advance. On a dirt bike it's not so easy to stop, then find the next path. I'd like to be able to open and see my way points, without panning out in the map.
2) use the way points in order. So it works as a build it yourself off road sat nav that I can share my routes with my friends online, take pictures of obstacles, grade ride outs. Easy to hard, so the dirt bikers out there can find somewhere new to green lane and know what to expect.

Amazing. Really impressive in both 2d and 3d modes.
We wanted an app to record our journeys when mountain biking so we could plan where we were going, see where we had been, how many miles we'd done etc, and this does all you could ask for and more
When out in the countryside its hard to get 3G signal... So it's great that you can download large area maps beforehand to use later... So you don't need any signal to use...
I used the everytrail app before this for some journeys, and could even load those routes into this app... Although everytrail app is good ...this app is ALOT better...
It's great that you can export the gpx files too ...
TIP: in settings, move terrain height to 3.0x ... It exaggerates the hills, making it look real cool, and helps you to judge the terrain

excellant app , for hiking in the scottish mountains i found it to be an excllant app i had a garmin etrex handheld 100 and have binned it ,this works seemlessly with the iphone i am very impressed i hope the developer keeps it updated it does all the things you need and is simple to use.
It really does do what it says , ive trialed it on 1st of Jan2012, it gave me all the information and more its not just for Ski slopes it does more or less what a handheld GPS would do and a decent one will cost you around £300 and you still have to buy the maps.
Also download OS map convertor as this gives you your grid ref alongside your long lat position which is excellant for a double check against your OS map i found it to be accurate to within 10 metres. These are great aids but still take your map and compass in case your battery runs out or you lose a signal.
Basically set your target, set record, mark way points enroute or before you depart,review it all on return and save it if you want, bye the way down load the map area your going to and play about with it all before you go so you get used to the features etc. Good luck
