Brilliant App

Have been using the app for some years and just can’t find anything better. It has all the features you need for solo artists with backing tracks. If the app could import Word files rather than text and link to other types of audio file (wave, etc) then it would be approaching perfection. Well done to the developers and thanks.

The must have app for musicians

I’ve used both the iOS app and Mac version for years. I now have a huge back catalogue of hundreds of songs I play on the guitar and piano.

Support for the apps is also fantastic. I’ve asked quite a few questions and have always received a highly informative responses.

Great !

I have been using this app for around 5 years now and will continue to use it . Easy to use and the convert to chord pro means you can import from anywhere and it sorts all the chords etc out for you !

Has been great until the last 12 months

This is a good app however over the last few months I have ‘lost’ hundreds of songs including more importantly my own and the customer service person I dealt with was terrible.

The songs that were on the app just disappeared over night. At one time 150 just vanished. Very unhappy.

Lacks compatibility with desktop app

Lacks compatibility of file naming with the desktop app. For example .cpm or .cho not recognised. Doesn’t import category structure either. Too much manual labour needed for obvious stuff.

Notes update

This update doesn’t work for me on my iPhone or iPad in playlists and I would like to revert back to the previous version!!!!!! After writing this review the Note option in Playlists now appears to be functioning correctly allowing for the creation of a note or several without corrupting the ChordPro format of the song as it had been doing. Thank you.

Deletes

App was good until it just deleted all my songs that had taken me over 2 weeks to up load. Very very disappointed. I’m hoping that there’s a way of restoring my songs. Really annoyed and upset is putting it mildly.

Excellent App

This app is really useful for storing all the songs and chords I use for church. I love that you can change the key and Capo position so easily. I also love how easy it is to use the chord pro formatting - so much better than typing the chords in manually like I was doing before.

Finally, I emailed the developer with a suggestion a couple of months ago and the suggestion has now been implemented! So great support and developer feedback as well. Well worth the money.

Just getting started with SongBook. I'm in a uke group and fell into being the librarian! Some members are users of SB but trying to understand it while at our jam sessions was hard. So now I'm feeling my way and after an hour or two, I'm getting it. It's great!

Song Book

I’m a disabled pensioner and have limited tech knowledge. I’ve tried on numerous occasions to contact you for help. Unfortunately the only help you provided was your standard help email which is no use to me. So I contacted Apple App Support who advised me to contact you this way.

I paid and downloaded Song Book app and have no music or songs except Greensleeves. You really need to realise your Apps are purchased by Senior citizens too and they need extra support.

Running app in the background?

Brilliant app with lots of amazing features. It would be even better if the app could run in the background whilst using other apps!

I want to be able to use the app and its metronome feature, minimise the app and still have the metronome playing whilst using another app.

I want to be able to use this app along with XAIR edit in a live band situation.

Great except?

It is a great app except that would it be possible to print out the song with the chord boxes showing as they do on the screen. I have tried a screen shot but it just prints on photo paper because it saves as a jpg. Exporting to pdf still doesn’t show the chord boxes on the right. Unless I am missing something.

Manages my music brilliantly

A great app that does almost everything I want. Love the ability to display only the lyrics on an external display using the Apple TV.

And really quick tech help if you do need it.

Good but could be better

I use it all the time so can’t complain. I just wish the facility to switch the order of the set list was easier. Why can’t I just drag the songs into the order I want? Otherwise it’s a game changer. Music stand with dozens of lyric pages? No thanks. Use this.

Fabulous! The developer update has answered my only niggle. Making that clearer in the instructions is all that is needed 😊. Great app. No flaws 👍🏻

Love my songbook

And use it all the time BUT suggestions ? : could you find a way for me to colour code chords ( so that I can easily identify moving from open chords to same chord up the neck.)

Could also do with song staying on screen while I record in 'Voice Record' or even see song when I 'Spotify'.

Great app but unstable

This app really is brilliant. The ability to change key with the touch of a button is fantastic. The only issue with the app is that it crashes all the time when trying to edit songs meaning you have to keep clicking save after a couple of changes or you lose everything. Very very frustrating.

Great prog, but having probs

Love this app and can accept its limitations as its such a good idea, particularly like the scrolling feature. I am however having problems with the create playlist function...I can add songs to a newly created playlist and at first it seems ok, then on going back to the programme its adding every single line of the songs to the playlist and won't recognise the songs. Immensely irritating and I can't seem to find a solution. This is the reason for 3 stars.I this can be resolved I'd be happy to put this up to 5. Any help would be appreciated...

Pretty good app for managing songs

I've found this app is really useful for managing songs for a ukulele group.

The current version does seem to crash occasionally and the size of the text seems to change randomly.

Some key features that I would like would be the ability to print song sheets including the chord patterns and also the ability to add annotations to the chords such as strum twice etc. The {soh}{eoh} section is great for adding comments in the lyric line but it would be useful to be able to add these comments on the chords when they are displayed above the lyrics.

Some problems

Clean interface and Dropbox sync is good.

However I have two gripes

1. It doesn't like some of my Chordpro files when I put in extra [ ][ ] to help rendering into bar length equivalents, so useless for my database

2. It doesn't support separate lyrics on HDMI display, so no good for live audience stuff, just your as a musician.

Requesting a refund hopefully

Excellent - but please add import of zip files via browser!

Much better than the current alternatives! The only quibbles I would have are:

1) Sharing songs and playlists with others via AirDrop seems to have stopped working.

2) No feature to import songs via zip file, so it is very time consuming to import a whole set of ukulele club songs. (I have sent a feature request today so maybe that will come in future. Zip file import is offered by some similar apps but they are in other ways not as good as Songbook Chordpro so I would prefer to stick with this app).

Can't fault it!

This is not the only chord book app, but it's by far the best one. This is the only one that's still on my iPad, as it has just the right features to be useful and is as stable as... a... very stable thing. I've never had it crash on me - maybe I'm just very lucky. Other reviews suggest it's crashed for other people but I've not experienced that myself.

Love the auto-zoom, love the set-only transposing, love the layout and the simplicity, love that I can completely rely on it when I'm playing live.

Maybe I'm not 100% convinced by the way set lists are displayed and it'd be nice to be able to archive sets, but neither of those things are actually problems with the app. Keep up the good work!

Great app

This is a great app, easy to use and has lots of great features , I am a gigging musician and this app is perfect for keeping all my songs in. Saves having to carry around folders of paper :)

Wow

Really very excellent tool. Great for teaching and gigging. No more useless paper clips trying to hold down fluttery bits of paper. That said ill never give up on hand written lyrics. A nice touch would be to be able to edit imported (photos maybe) hand written lyrics then add chord structure on top.

Almost brilliant

Still the best App for ChordPro files.

Love the new 'Recently Viewed' tab, helps remember what you were playing last night, Hic!!!

STILL needs to sort out the playback buttons though, can be difficult to use and confusing.

Now there are even more but they need to be simplified and had a ]Back' button in all of them, when you go to things like 'Metrognome' the only way to get back is to come out of song altogether and go back in.

Doesn't work

Paid for and downloaded having seen a good review on you tube. First thing I tried was to import hotel California from Internet, searched, found it, clicked import and the program closed!!!! Tried again from different site, same thing. Closed down iPad, reopened, same thing. Uninstalled, reinstalled, same thing.

Have now sent an email to support so let's see what they come back with.

Best iPhone app for Ukulele players

I have tried a number of different apps, both paid and free, to help with showing ukulele chords and lyrics.

This app is perfect. You can have chords shown either on the width or length of the phone, you can transpose the song, you can set it to scroll the lyrics as you play. I don't get why anybody learning to play wouldn't love this app. It really is perfect for my needs.

Fantastic

I wanted an app that could store and organise lyrics along with guitar chords. Found this. It is perfect and really easy to use. Search for your songs on the web using the inbuilt web browser and then cut and paste into the app. Sometimes am lucky and find chord pro files with all the chords. Sweet. Transformed my song repertoir.

Not so good

UI is very basic. Buttons are too small and fiddly for live performance use. Metronome is very basic and barely visible. Importing lyrics and chords is a nice idea but only seems to work with the Chordie website and needs lots of editing after import to get it into a decent and usable format.

Overall a good idea not very well executed. May get better over time but not currently worth the price.

Really impressed with how easy to use this is, dropbox integration. A few small tweaks to the autosizing and exporting of songs and this would be 5 stars all the way to the bank

Fantastic for ukulele players

This is a brilliant app, it has everything you need, how to play all the chords, a web search for chords for your favourite songs, automatic scrolling so you don't need to stop playing. Just brilliant. Worth every penny :)

Excellent app

Very good, just what I needed. Search results are ok, but the files are very easy to edit, I like that you can define your own chords a save them or search for similar chords. I would like to see an 'undo' button and arrow buttons to move the cursor forward and backward whilst editing.

I used to carry a large folder of song lyrics, scribbled over with guitar chords. Now all I need is my iPad. Quick to paste in new songs from the Internet & I can now add my own chords. Fantastic!

Best of the chord lyric apps

This is a fantastic app. I wanted to find a means to have all the songs I know available in an easily readable chord lyric format suitable for playing acoustic piano versions and this is it. It's very easy to use, songs are easy to edit and put in the correct chords (there are a lot of errors in the Chordie songs in terms of chords) You can even just download lyrics and input your own chords from scratch. The ability to link songs to iPod songs is great too as I have mp3 backing track versions of most of the songs I play which is great for checking chords/ arrangements and having the full backing with you whenever you need it. Another great feature is being able to change the key of all the chords at the push of a button on the fly. I now have my songs with me at all times on my iPad and iPhone all synced and backed up on Dropbox. Brilliant - Where's that piano?

This is really a very useful and well thought out app. I was going to give it 4 stars as there is a minor bug however the brilliance of the dropbox sync (that our uke band use anyway) and the ease of use with existing chord pro formats as well as txt files make it a work of genius! Top stuff chaps - now, that bug...

When you tap one of the overlay components and then tap it again (to put it away may be or by accident) it doesn't go away rather another instance of the overlay pops out - this then doesn't go away as there are multiple instances of the pop out and the app finally crashes... A simple fix me thinks

Needs work

Nice clean interface but buggy. Dropbox sync stops working if you change the song name. AirPrint doesn't work at all.

Don't have options to change colouring of comments.

Lots of potential to replace the very buggy OnSong. Keep the updates coming.
