I’m really enjoying the book buddy app to keep a note of my many books. The one thing I can’t see which would be very very useful to have would to be able to record whether the book is a hardback, paperback or Kindle version so when I’m searching for the book to read again or loan to a friend I have an idea of where to look for it.

I’ve been using BookBuddy for a couple of years now, and it’s really good at what it does. I use it to catalogue which shelf each book is on, because I have so many. It’s also useful when I’m in a bookshop, to see if I already own a book. A great app, definitely worth getting.

Brilliant App

Indispensable, easy to use by scanning book barcodes for indexing and with it I know where every one of my books is located, plus it’s saved me a lot of money because I’m not buying duplicate books because I know what I have on my phone with me.

So easy to use I began to wonder if I had designed it myself

I have just completed the catalogue of my small library of maritime books (I had guessed it contained “under 500 books” and actually there were 485, including five duplicates 🙄), and I found Book Buddy almost perfect. It could hardly be more flexible, and every time I wondered “might it be possible to do X?” it turned out not only to be possible, but easy, and achieved in the way I would have specified had I designed the thing.

I have only one tiny complaint: the software behind the ISBN OCR is rubbish. Only about 60% of the time did it correctly read the number. But this is hardly a deal-breaker.

Brilliant for tracking your past, present & future reading

Keep track of what you've read, are reading or wish to read. This enables you to make your own personal comments on who recommends books or why you wanted to read a book. It's a very personal record. It's easy to customise and make your own lists. Only downfall is it doesn't seem to co-ordinate over all devices, but this may be me.

BookBuddy is my buddy!

Great app for categorising a diverse home library.

Scanning bar codes helps to speed things up, particularly with recent books where all the information seems to be accurate. Older books may need some details updating manually, but this is down to who put the information in the online database, and is easily corrected in BookBuddy.

Books without a barcode can be found by manually typing in the ISBN, or by inputting everything manually.

Photos of the book are sometimes automatically found (again, depending on what’s been stored on the web), but it’s really easy to take one of your own book to use instead.

Most of my books are non-fiction, some several decades old, and I can store all the details I need to both find my book in the house, and to use in a formal bibliography should I need to.

500 books done so far, done over about 3 days because of all the extra details I’ve included, but anybody that just wants to scan barcodes and accept the details could do the same number in a day, for sure. The few new books I’ve scanned have had all the correct details downloaded and stored within seconds, so once I have input all my old books, keeping it up to date should be really quick and simple.

Pity I didn’t find this app years ago......

Fabulous Book Buddy

I always use this app when I’m getting new books as I can check I don’t duplicate. Keep up with what I’ve lent out as well as what I’ve read or not. So useful as I do read a lot and it would be hard to keep track otherwise.

Fun and detailed

I tried a few different apps before choosing this one. I have been recommending it to everyone; it is so easy to use, covers everything I need and, importantly, looks really good, too. You can back up using iCloud, Dropbox etc so have full peace of mind if you change phone or tablet or lose it. I have about 5,000 books and have just started but am enjoying myself hugely! At the beginning, I asked for help with a problem and got a reply within an hour...I was shocked (in a good way!) Thank you SO much for this app!

God but has some faults

This is a great app to log books in and reminds you who you have lenses your book to but I have about 150 books and it only lets me log 50 unless you pay for the premium package. Great app but not quite right for me.

Excellent app - easy to use - worth every cent

I find myself having to classify my Godmother’s enormous collection of books. her library contains every language possible and some books even date back over 100 years. Not a problem for this app : Easy to scan, edit and classify. It would be nice to be able to search by ISBN number when the barcode is illegible but otherwise this app is well worth the 5£.

Best solution

With any app holding a lot of data (in my case, for example, around 2,000 books) a few key criteria are essential. Firstly to be able to import and export my data easily. Secondly to have a great UI (simple, clean and easy to use). Thirdly to have easy access to web and industry data (ie book metadata, cover pics, etc). Lastly to have excellent support with a quick turnaround.

BookBuddy from Kimico meets all those criteria superbly, and provides plenty of flexibility as well. I almost never award 5 starts to an app unless it’s exceptional. This one certain is. Thank you for a great product.

This app allows you to catalogue all your books and mark them read, unread, lent out etc. You can also categorise them according to your own requirements.

Excellent when in the book shop to identify what you have already read.

Excellent App - I recommend the Pro version.

I’d previously had other apps for my library of over 5000 books all of which either did not work 100% or stopped being supported and eventually failed.

I was therefore somewhat hesitant at first. Having used the free app initially I soon found it to be extremely functional as it does what it says on the label as they say.

Adding my first 30 books was extremely quick and hassle free, it found 28 out the 30. The two books it could not find were Rare books one from 1539 the other from a private limited edition collection, yet I was able to add them manually.

It would seem that the developers put a lot of though into this App and considered its design from a librarians point of view and requirements which is commendable.

It would be helpful though if BookBuddy could see which books I have in Apple Books (and other storage platforms) and populate the information into BookBuddy, as adding my entire collection of over 5000 books is going to be somewhat time consuming.

I highly recommend the Pro version as I believe anyone who would need an App such as this would own more than 30 books.

Great recognition of titles

Pretty happy with the app as it recognises 99% of my books including many in a foreign language. When picture of the book cover does not appear automatically at barcode scan, it is easy to search online or take a photo. Asks to pay over 30? books. As a minus in a bulk barcode scan tells me I have already scanned an item(s) but does not show which ones are duplicates.

Great but slightly frustrating

This app is amazing. It is a shame that you can only have a max of 50 books in the free edition, however if like myself you have hundreds of books to keep track of in different places it is well worth the £4.99 to upgrade to unlimited.

The only main quarrel i have with this app is the sorting function. In my opinion the logical sorting system would be first and foremost by Author (Last name, First name) and within that author's book list the books would be sorted into series' (if necessary) and go from first book to last book in the series.

However at present, and i have hunted high and low on the settings, if you order your books by author, it then orders that author's books alphabetically- which works perfectly fine if that author only has standalone novels but not so much if they have extensive or multiple series' published as the ordering gets a bit messy and it is harder to locate- for example- the fourth book in a nine book series as it won't be after the third, it could be at the top of the list, bottom or anywhere in between.

This may just be me being picky but to me this is a frustrating thing as i can't order my books in the app as i have them on my shelves.

The best book sorting app I've found

I spent a considerable amount of time trying out different book cataloging apps before settling on this one, and after adding over 900 books I'm really happy with my choice!

Initially the barcode scanning was quite hit and miss, but recently the developer has vastly improved the barcode scanning so that it's now accurate and fast 90% of the time. Entering books manually via a web search is also very easy.

The app is intuitive and easy to use and storing and sorting books is a breeze. Because I buy lots of my books second hand it's invaluable to know what I've already got so that I don't duplicate books.

I also like to keep track of what I've read and what I've still got to read (far too many on that list sadly!).

I love the fact that you can sync to Dropbox. Would like to be able to sync between two versions of the app so that my wife and I can share our library.

I’d also like the ability to create completely separate book lists within the app, I.e one for home and one for work so that I can see different totals

The only other suggestions I can make are an option to exclude duplicates from the total book count, a running 'percentage read' tally somewhere and other options for displaying the books, i.e in a bookcase format rather than a long list. But these are relatively minor issues.

Overall this is a very well thought out app by a developer who clearly cares about the user experience and is constantly updating and improving the app. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone interested in cataloging their library.

Slick, elegant, stable

I used to use a different app but the developer didn’t respond and it was buggy and didn’t sync across devices seamlessly. I kept persevering for years. Then I found BookBuddy. It’s not quite as fully featured as the other app, and I’d like to see better access to reviews and external edition information. But it syncs perfectly and has 85% of what I’d got used to. It’s nice to look at, easy to use, and has responsive developer.

Basically, if you’ve thousands of books and read a lot and want to organise and annotate your holdings, this is the best app out there in my opinion :-)

Brilliant for cataloging all my Christian books

I’ve used other book apps but this one is much more flexible. Had a csv file already from a previous book app that I wanted to ensure could be uploaded with BookBuddy. I didn’t want to record over 750 books again! The creators of the app were v helpful , I sent them my csv file and they reworked it to make it work ! Impressed

So now I know which self they are on in the house , and can easily add other data as I want . For £4.99 buy the full application Matt CB

A fantastic book collection app

This app is just great at what it does. After a little practise, the various menus and options become very simple to navigate and use. Different book categories can be set up to catalogue different book genres, subjects, etc., which makes searching your library a doddle. When using an iPad, the filters, categories and settings are shown on the left-hand side of the screen with images and details of the books on the right-hand side. Clicking on the book opens up more details and allows further editing as required. User images of books can be uploaded if you are not happy with the covers downloaded online. The app easily handles large book collections and syncs across devices, whilst backups of your library can be saved to iCloud or Dropbox.

Overall, this is a fantastic app suitable for users interested in cataloguing book collections of any size, be they printed or electronic copies. My only suggestion to the developers would be to allow the user to increase the size of the book images displayed.

Comprehensive with Excellent Support

This is by far the best app of its kind that I have used. As well as providing a comprehensive catalogue of books that you have read, along with your comments , when read etc, with various sort options, you can also set up a wish list. The developers seem to have thought of everything. Excellent!

Most used paid app

This app provides me exactly what I needed and was well worth the price for the paid version. I have used for 18months to log all my Kindle Unlimited reads (600+) so I can keep track and search by author what titles I’ve read.

Quick and easy to use and I export by email and sync to Dropbox in case of any problems, of which there have been none.

Excellent for keeping track of textbooks!

This is great! Used the free version to test whether it would do the job, and yes, it’s very useful. The free version gives you 50 slots, which means you can make sure this will work for you before having to pay for the pro version - this is a great way of doing things.

It’s certainly worth getting the full version, especially if you have a lot of textbooks (as teacher or student), because you can keep track of what you’ve got, where the book is, who’s using it, and so on. The scanning function works well, finding all my obscure texts and saving so much time over entering everything manually. Very impressed!

Thoroughly recommended purchase

The developers seem to have thought of everything and are really helpful in responding. The menus contain a lot of extra features and flexibility in classifying books via Tags, Genres, Categories, Wanted List etc. Other features include setting fields displayed and recording reading status and public library loans. I am pleased to have come across this app having already tried others and have also purchased MusicBuddy and MovieBuddy.

Really useful app, could be even better!

As a home-educator I find this app really useful to organised our home library, and keep track of books we have. However I would suggest some improvements: it would be nice to be able to select several books at a time in order to move them to a category altogether, or add a tag or add a location to a group of preselected books in fewer clicks. Also, it would be nice to be able to share our whole library or wholes categories with fellow educators.

Absolutely Brilliant

Used BookBuddy for a few years and can't praise it too highly.

The functionality is so rich, yet flexible and easily configurable. The design is intuitive and it's so easy to load books, add data, categorise and search - what else do you need? All this for just a few quid, I think us consumers are getting spoilt.

This the key for me - the developers support is second to none. Fast, friendly response to queries with logical and precise instructions. The best app in the world is useless without reliable support!

Great App

I used to catalog my books on an access database but this wasn’t very useful for logging books on my wish list. This app allows me to do this and it’s always with me on my phone. Only slight issue I would say is I would like the ability to sort my books by author AND date published as I generally like to read them in order for continuity.

Great app

Used this app to replace an old one that hadn’t been updated for quite a while, had stopped allowing back up to Dropbox and didn’t sync between devices.
