Just keeps crashing!

Well, after 4 days gameplay the game froze and no amount of iPhone resets would fix it - game just reopened at same place and would not allow any movement, although sound was still there. Very reluctantly I reinstalled and started again. 4 days later the same thing happened in the same place in the game. I really can’t be bothered to restart year again, having for close to the end both times. Very frustrating and annoying. I feel like I’ve been cheated as I have wasted 8 days and seem unlikely to be able to ever finish this game.

Also, I have to say that the navigation is very difficult on a small screen, and some things are VERY difficult to see/find. Had to resort to hints just to find some levers and switches because they were in dark places. Finally, this is a very complex game and without hints I really think it would be unplayable. However, If it hadn’t crashed then it would have got 4 stars.

I was do excited to play this game but the graphics are just not good enough. Game like this it’s all about the detail so how can you play when it’s impossible to see the detail! 😕😕

Aggravating navigation

I loved Myst as a kid, and thoroughly enjoyed realMyst as an adult. However, the navigation in this iteration of Riven is extremely frustrating. Clicking between stills makes it extremely difficult to have any real sense of orientation or direction, and it's often hard to tell if you can interact with an object and you're just clicking in slightly the wrong place, or if you can't interact with it at all. I'm sure this is a fantastic game, but I'm finding the navigation within this open world near-impossible.

Does NOT play like realMyst

Loved playing realMyst and was excited to get cracking with Riven - but am totally wracked off to find that this is not the same gameplay at all, rather than being able to move around you only have the option to click through stills as you progress through, which is very unrewarding, loses all of the magic of realMyst and, for me, has left me £3.99 out of pocket with a game I have no desire to play. It should be made v clear that this is a very different, more basic, game play model.

Videos and other assets are heavily compressed to allow for App Store max size limit. Would be lovely to see a new version for the new app size limit of 4GB. PLEEEEEEAASE? <3

Brilliant

Absolutely fantastic! Just like the original on 5 disks! This is just one big game without stopping to change disks! Game play is amazing, simply tap and go :) not for the faint hearted tho as takes brain power to work out puzzles ( it's all a big puzzle)!. Thanks cyan

How can i not rate less than 5

Brings back many memories but beware this is not for everyone. It does not hold your hand and is very hard. But if you want to take months and not use guides then this is for you. The atmosphere and graphics have always captivated me as well as the music and sound. Put some headphones on turn the volume full blast and soak in Riven...

Bloody great!!

Finished the first one with a friend on my mac a couple of years ago and got this one but didn't get into it and before I had a chance one of the discs got broke but I'm really looking forwards to playing through this!! The first is such an amazing game, definitely the best puzzle game I've ever played! On par with broken sword two (my other fav) I find this one a little more overwhelming than the first myst as it's much bigger!

I've played about an hour now and I can already see this is going to be the most challenging game I've ever played! Much harder than myst! But you just can't beat the satisfaction you get from finally getting past a bit you've been stuck on for so long!! Makes u think in ways most games don't and it was a great story in the first one

Great game, love playing and progressing through this beautiful and innovate world, but there needs to be an update so it fits into the larger screen as the immersive effect is partially depleted out of it.

No sound

No sound on ipad3. If I use airplay then I can watch and hear it on my tv but cannot interact. If I use mirroring then no sound. If I use ipad only then no sound. And no help from Cyan. Huge disappointment and waste of money.

Image quality too poor

This version of riven is as good to play as the original, and it's amazing to have a touchscreen version considering the original had you juggling 5 CD roms as you walked around the islands. The iOS version however has sacrificed too much image quality to cram it all in (although it is still a hefty size, so I guess there was no other way). Particularly the darker areas of Riven are covered in compression artefacts.

Brilliant

The sound works fine (game would be a pretty big bust if it diddn't) The graphics aren't perfect on the ipad or quite the quality they were in the original but they are FINE honestly and the game looks great for its age. Touch technology works really well, games like riven and myst could have been made for it! Hope complaints about the graphics don't put people off this app, they are plenty good enough to enjoy Riven whether you've played it before or not.

Great but with one big problem :(

Love this game, takes me right back to my childhood and although it took an age to download and install, it was well worth it! Playing it on my iPad at x2 isn't too bad either even though it is a little blurry but my main issue is that there is no sound, which makes playing an audio based puzzle game a little tricky. Hopefully it will get sorted in an update.

Good game but...

This is a wonderful game and will keep you playing for days but it's no good on the iPad. The graphics are just too poor. Please can you release and HD update for the iPad 2.

Fantastic

Great game works perfectly on the iPhone, shame the resolution can't be updated to work on the iPad as that would have been perfect (the scaled up images in x2 mode are quite blurry as you'd expect).

Really enjoyed playing this again after so long, well worth a buy.

If you have played Riven before you are not going to be disappointed, this is riven in the palm of your hand! If your new to the series it can take a bit to get into the Myst series but once your in your hooked.

It is unbelievable and looks stunning and plays perfect.

Now If only they would release Myst and Riven in HD for the Ipad I would be blown away.

Perfect!!!!

I had heard about myst when I had exchanged schools. I decided to download Myst and Riven when I got back home. This game is full of wonder and imagination. It's a despicable shame that some people don't want to figure it out because it's "too hard" for them. Pessimism filled people give up after short periods of time. Anyway, I am trying so hard to figure out the symbols in the room with the Tay linking book. Fun filled game with full wonder. Just stop reading and get it now. Hello? I said just get it!!!

More beautiful than I remember

It's a game of patience and a game of beauty. What used to be on four disks you can now run easily on your iPod! more beautiful than the original must and just as tricky! Hoping they'll continue to add the rest of the sequels as apps soon! If you like puzzles and exploring different lands (or ages) then this is definitely worth your money.

Myst, great! Riven is much better and much more subtle in clues and approach.

I love these games. It's so rare to find a game that is beautiful, atmospheric and intelligent.

If you like dragging your knuckles or just shooting stuff - this not for you :D

No other game comes close!

Beautiful, but not easy. I originally paid £30 for 5 discs without hints when this game was first released. It took me weeks, yes, weeks to complete but it still stands as the best and most immersive game I have ever had the pleasure to play. Wipe all your crap music off your device and download this piece of art now. No other game comes close.

Riven delight

Having played the original on pc at the time I was keen to see if this was any good. It is so worth the money I can't say! It is exactly like the original and the graphics and play style really suit the iPhone. Not sure how it would perform other than the iPhone 4 which in using. I'm even stuck on the same bits as before and it's so satisfying when you finally work a bit of the puzzle out. Buy it now! ps you can turn hints off it's in the options dur!

Incredible, awesome... Puts other games to shame. The most immersive experience is have had on the iPod/ iPhone. If you enjoy wonderful graphics, smooth gameplay, coherent stirrings and intellectually challenging puzzles, this is for you . If you like the mundane ' shoot' em ups' back to 'battlefield ' for you.

No feature to transfer saved games

This needs a way to get at saved game files to both export and import them. I like to use both my iPod touch and my iPad and currently there's no way to put the saved games from one onto the other...

oddly when I contacted the developers they said it can't be done until Apple change iOS..... erm? hello? iTunes file sharing, web interface, wifi/bluetooth, to name but just a few... pathetic response.

Fantastic - now please can we have an iPad version

I played the orginal of this (and its forerunner Myst) and it's fantastic this is being ported to modern gadgets.

Please, please please can we have an iPad version though, as the larger screen would make this look even more fabulous! It loses quality doubling up the screen at the moment..

Still giving it 5 stars though as it's great to be able to play it again.

Hints :-(

I recently completed Real Myst on the PC and was overjoyed t hear about Riven (a game I have never played) on the iphone. The graphics and sound are excellent but my personal enjoyment is being ruined because of the ludicrous hints system! Every 2 minutes something gets highlighted spoiling the element of mystery completely. If I want hints I will ask for them! Not being able to deactivate these hints renders the game pointless. Until Cyan deal with this, Riven will remain a dormant app on my phone :-(

Great Version of Fantastic Game

Superb transition to the iPhone. Works great, even on a 3G iPhone. Probably the best game in the Myst series - really testing but doable without hints if you stick at it.

Riven on the iphone.

Wow... Just wow. This is riven on the iphone! Sure a couple of animations have been taken out ant a few movies compressed but this is Riven and it fits on an ios device!

In my opinion, the game is the best adventure gamr of all time.

The story is fantastic, and the universe it is set in breathtaking, on par with the best fiction, whatever the medium. I highly recommend playing through Myst before trying this as this is a sequel, and you are thrown in at the deep end, but it is not essential.

All of the graphics in the game are prerendered, which allows for the impressive beauty of the setting.

The interface is touchscreen (what else) and as with Myst, this feels very intuitive, you touch any area of the screen you want to investigate, swipe to turn or turn around, and double tap or pinch to zoom - I can't get enough of that, personally.

The sound quality is extremely high, and the music is perfect. They contribute to the overall immersion feel of the experience.

I have experienced yhe same niggles as reported by others: hints have a tendancy to show up unsollicited, and the screen brightness is hiked up a notch when full screen video is played.

Still, these will aurely be fixed in time, and I can hardly believe that Riven, a game which used to come on five separate discs, is playing on my iphone! Five stars!

Very good, but...

Wow! I was very glad to see they ported this game to the iDevices. I really enjoyed playing this game when it was first released and brought back pleasant memories playing it again on the iPad. Please note however that this game was designed for the iPhone and iPod touch screens. It is not HD and you will be playing a slightly pixelated version on the iPad (using the 2x button). Otherwise a very good game.
