Not as good as it was
This is a really really good app! I’ve been using it for a couple of years. However in recent months I don’t know what has gone wrong. I assume it’s some kind of update that hasn’t been fixed but it has become slow and increasingly very difficult to use.

Really helpful
Having the pictures and all the recommendations on how difficult and long the trail is can really assist me in deciding which walks to do. The added bonus of the pictures other people have taken on the trails helps me make the decision if the views are worth it.

Good start
I’ve only been using All Trails Pro for a few weeks and it’s proving very useful. Mostly used for tracking my known walks, still need to try with the All Trail known walks, need to test the same suggested directions. More to follow when I have used more.

Annoying emails
Despite unsubscribing three times now from emails that are trying to sell me upgrades, I continue to receive them regularly. If they can’t be trusted with personal data preferences I’m certainly not going to trust them to keep my locations safe.

Missing one feature
I really like this app, I pay for pro and have used it for a couple of years. One annoying feature that is missing is the ability to share the completed activity with Strava, nearly all exercise apps out there share with starve and apples health app, this is because they know these apps sit at the centre of many peoples workout tracking. The Strava API is public so I’m not sure why it wouldn’t be included.
Strava has just brought out its own hiking activity so I’m considering ditching AllTrails in favour of keeping my total activities tracked in one place, it is a shame because Alltrails has better data overall for the hikes.

Trails that don’t exist
We used the app yesterday up in Scotland. We thought we were following a path, thanks to AllTrails. After a while the farm road came to an end and there was no path at all. We continued for a bit through a bog in the hope that the next t-junction would put us onto a proper path, but there was no path there either, except in the imagination of AllTrail. Not a great outcome.

Buyer beware
At the time of writing this review, AllTrails is offering subscription at a discount of 50% off saving £15. However, when you purchase the subscription, their app just charges you the full amount, taking £29.99 from you.
I’ve contacted the developer but have not had a response, I’ve also spoken to Apple about it who have claimed that there is nothing they can do. So we’re on our own, please watch out for the sneaky over charging app.

Would be good if it would stop freezing
Dreadfully buggy app (I’m on a new phone with latest software). Can’t narrow down choices using tabs at top, because the whole app freezes up when trying and I’m not prepared to scroll through about 500 trails to find a walk of about 10k distance in my area. Sort out the filter problems and then I might - might - think of paying to use it

Edit option pathetic
Having been forced to come here, after the takeover of the ViewRanger app, I am truely appalled by the very basic editing options for routes. They are so bad it just easier to start again, than to try and edit recorded tracks.
Plus the auto routing option just puts in random flashes off the sides for no reason at all.
I’m only here because I paid for the OS Whole of GB map pack back in the day.
Loved ViewRanger just bring that back, than this rubbish.

Enjoying the app. However, for the free version it would be good if your completed walks marked in a different colour in map view once completed. I would be more likely to try and tick off lots of different walks of I could see more easily the ones I have done previously when searching in map view.

You have mountain biking, road biking, bike touring but no off road biking option. Many walking paths allow you to cycle, some don’t.
You are missing a whole section of people who don’t want to mountain bike and don’t want to go on the road, they just want to ride safely on tracks (that are cycle allowed).
Can you try to incorporate that please.

Love this app. Great for identifying walks of all types and the fact that you can filter by a number of features such as whether routes are dog friendly or not is helpful. Being able to download maps in advance is a good feature to avoid issues with reception while walking. Link with a variety of map apps enables easy navigation by car to route start points. Reviews of routes from other users are also invaluable. Really pleased I bought this app and would recommend.

Arguably the best app around
If you enjoy a walk, this is the app for you. So many great recommendations for walks, I have used this in a number of locations across England and it never fails to deliver. So easy to follow routes with GPS enabled maps, making the need for old school written instructions a thing of the past. Trust me, this app is great!

Apple Watch app useless
For 2 years now I have been putting up with the same issue when recording an offline hike. The Apple Watch app will continuously go from the map screen (the only one that actually matters during a hike) to the ‘end route screen’ all on its own. Meaning you have to constantly flick back through the pages until you get back to the map screen. Very very frustrating especially when wearing gloves. I have reported this many times to AllTrails and they just send a generic email asking for a log but nothing ever changes. I cannot understand why the Apple Watch app is set to default to the end route screen rather than the map screen. At the end of my current subscription I will be leaving which is a real shame because it seems like a simple fix but 2 years in and still nothing. I only purchased a sub because of what I thought would be the convenience of the Apple Watch app

This app is very good and has some useful features if you subscribe to an annual subscription such as telling you that you gone off your trail. Some of the descriptions are not correct where it says that dogs are not allowed. Dogs are allowed but on the lead. This is the case for walks in Cornwall and have fed this back to all trails once we did the walks so hopefully they will update the descriptions.

Exploring made easy!
Great app! Would definitely recommend, makes it really easy to just rock up somewhere and go exploring without the stress of having to figure out a route or get lost. Only thing that would help is if they have a postcode for the start point of the walk to make driving to start point easier if that’s what you’re doing.

Frustrating
Good map for predefined walks and if you want to do what the app wants you to do. But a frustrating and unintuitive interface:
1. 2 different maps- one for ‘explore’, one for ‘navigation’
2. Navigation keeps re entering, so if you’re looking at an area somewhere else then perhaps look at a website in another app to check something and go back to alltrails, it’s recentered you so you have to relocate where you were looking at before.
3. Map creator took me 10 minutes to find then didn’t seem to be more than a way to screenshot a map and save that to you my maps area- not actually draw out your own route? Am I missing something?
4. Way to clunky interface with massive buttons everywhere trying to shove explore maps in your face. I know where they are (in the explore button), I’ll go find them if I need them.
5. Different settings menus in different parts of the app
It just needs one map without lots of screen clutter, the ability to navigate around the map and draw out your own routes simply, or overlay ‘explore’ if needed.
Too messy- deleted without even leaving the house.

Great app for finding new walks
I’m enjoying this app for finding new walks. The offline maps are helpful and the reviews and photos are useful too. I use OS maps and this is a great companion to these maps to explore both around home and when travelling. If it had OS maps it would be perfect but as far as it goes it works better than many other apps out there.

Fantastic app - easy to use and so useful
Been using this app for about a month now. It’s been amazing for finding new walking routes both locally and further afield. It has a great feature for tracking your route, activity, pace etc. Makes it easy to discover new places - currently using it on holiday in Portugal! My only small suggestion would be that I feel the Profile section could be improved - there should be a list in there of recently completed routes (with a ‘see more’ drop down) so you can see all of your recent activity as an easy to view list (it’s currently hidden under the ‘saved’ tab, hard to find and out of the way). Just a suggestion! :)

Fantastic app for some excellent routes
This app has been brilliant for finding some really brilliant walks in my area and beyond.
The directions are always clear but it things are obvious, you can rely on the GPS to perfectly pinpoint exactly where you are.
The free version is perfectly functional for some fine walks. Enjoy!

This truly is a very versatile application! The stats are spot on, the mapping is brilliantly designed, plot your route with wayward points and phots.. elevation recordings to declines, distance to reminders through text to rejoin your route if you wonder off! Good for city walks. Not for hikes
I’ve been using this for a year but I won’t be renewing my subscription.

The issues all relate to a fundamental flaw with this app. They expect you to always have great data coverage. Which is only true of you are doing city walks around San Francisco.
I’ve tried using it in

- Lake District (uk)
- Cornwall (uk)
- rheingau (Germany)
- cotswold (uk)
And it just doesn’t download maps if you’re actually on a hike. It doesn’t easily render things in the Ui.
I’ve tried it on my old iPhone 6s and a brand new iphone12 with similar results. I’ve tried it on VF network and O2 with similar results.
Even in WiFi within Airbnb’s in the countries above, you will have similar issues.
Downloading always results in starting all over again.
The fancy ui is so heavy on image and data, I’ve had many moments where the app has just been useless.
Multi day hikes. Forget about it.

Essential App for our holiday in Cumbria
This App uncovered lots of spectacular secrets that we would never have otherwise discovered. The circular walls were particularly helpful and bike ride manageable for all the family (including 10 and 13 year olds).
The accuracy and efficiency of the App in remote areas made me feel safe. All Trails really is an excellent travel companion.

App great but…
I’ve never been so FRUSTRATED by downloading data for an app. Download maps… No idea which map or maps. If you do ANYTHING else it interrupts the download. No idea what/which maps ARE downloaded (in Ireland right now - I did a download before in UK - which/what maps were they? Where are they now?). So / basically - chewed through a chunk of my data (cellular - which is fine - my choice) with little idea of how many times I’ve redownloaded the same things because it keeps saying - interrupted do you wish to restart. Great app to use for actually following a trail. Nightmare in terms of transparency and control regarding downloads.

Tried the Navigator function once, and though it does show you with a blue dot when you go off the course, it could be about half a mile before you know it. Someone said, theres a ping to alert you, but i did not notice this. I then had to take ther help of Google Maps, which takes you via civilised and loner routes. However, it is still quite good and helps keep you on track. Would recommend using.

Terrible / Useless app if you do MTB in UK
I bought that app given all the positive reviews and yet is COMPLETELY useless for people doing MTB in the UK. I paid £50 for an app I can’t use at all.
For some reasons I saw many people complaining about Trailforks and the fact that it’s £20/years yet you find 1000s of trail just for MTB, it’s WAAYY better.
If you don’t have MTB on your app (as I saw on your response to someone else complaining about the same thing) the make it clear to people so that you don’t scam them of £50... I would really like a refund for this app, it’s shockingly bad for MTB user in the UK.

I like that you can download the route before you go - there have been lots of walks we have discovered on lock down in our local area that we didn’t even know existed!!! Get the APP !!

Fab app, been using it for over a year and it’s incredibly accurate, can submit your own trails and review too! There was a slight issue which was reported and had received a reply incredibly quickly and the issue was sorted there and then!!

Great App for helping explore new places. You can easily search for walks by location, distance, difficulty, features and the App is easy to use while your hiking to navigate the route. I have been meaning to get out and explore the Peak District for ages, but as a solo walker worried that I’d get lost. This was a great find and I’ve already been out for a lovely hike! Recommend.

If you love hiking, you need this app!
It’s just awesome! Trails that I wouldn’t even dream of just listed methodically for the picking. You can see pics posted by other people, read their reviews, know beforehand what the difficulty level is such as easy, moderate or difficult. You can also get directions to the start of the trail as well as navigation whilst on it. It’s my new favourite app and I’ll have it to thank for many an adventure to come. Thank you All Trails ❤️

Usually 5* but Recent update causing problems..
Been a Pro user for over a year & loved the app, used on many trails without any issues at all.
Recent update caused a few problems on my last hike - main one was app kept closing/crashing. Also location of my GPS didn’t seem too accurate (I was on the trail but according to the map I was way off/vice versa) I’d done the same route a few months prior with no issues also had the maps downloaded so shouldn’t usually be a problem.

Great app, doesn’t scale on iPad though
It’s an excellent app for planning your hiking or walking trails with directions, difficulty, ratings and filter features such as stroller friendly. Works great on the phone but The iPad Pro version only takes up a sixth of the screen which is a shame as it would be so nice to be able to see the trail photos on the large screen.

Cracking app
I’ve used a few walking apps in the past but they never really hit the spot, this one so far seems to be ticking the boxes. Some great trails, good descriptions and recommendations. If you follow a trail and you go off trail it will buzz to tell you, which is good. Adds pictures you take to the route which is good.
I have thought I’ve started a route a couple of times but got half way round to find it’s either gone off, stopped or maybe I didn’t just start it, no biggie if your following a previous route, only an issue for me if it’s one of my walks that’s not previously been recorded, but not losing sleep over it.
All in all I’ve recommended this app to friends and work colleagues, could do with probably being able to add friends off my contacts list rather than search. All in all would highly recommend giving it a try

Update has ruined app
I pay for pro to get trails downloaded, new update meant all maps needed updating, which is all well and good. But the downloads fail and won’t reconnect no matter what I try, closing and restarting app, force restart of phone. Really not happy, why ‘fix’ something that wasn’t broken?!

This app is excellent - highly recommended
Downloaded this app about a month ago when looking for a different one someone mentioned. Delighted to have found it and have used twice for finding walks with family. Works like any good app should, near flawless although did yesterday accidentally pause the app during a walk which meant I lost a bit.

Not very good
I set up an account on my phone for this app. When i tried to log into my account via my PC it would not recognise the password. I tried resetting it but the promised "email with reset instructions will arrive in a few minutes" did not arrive! (And no, it was not in the junk folder either). I am sure, too, my account password was correct too.
Not worth the hassle and limited value for the free version.

Love this app!
This app is brilliant for getting out anywhere for an adventure. You can drive to any destination, click on the maps and pick a route. Easy to use, accurate and you can filter routes to suit your walking ability/preference.
I highly recommend the pro version, so handy to download the maps to work offline, plus you get a notification if you go off route.

Game-changer
Have been trying to get into walking for a while using routes I’ve found on various web pages and it’s been ok but always took ages to find me we often got lost. This app has literally opened up the door to thousands of walks - I can now just look where I want to go, how long and how hard and then download the route offline so I can enjoy my walk stress free! Would really recommend (make sure to buy the pro version so you can use the maps even when you’re signal has gone - it’s worth every penny)

Useful app - great if you are new to an area looking for inspiration
I’m new to this app - but rate it highly after using it 9 times in the last few weeks. Best carrying unnecessary maps, and only a few minor moments when I lost my signal - pretty soon the blue marker comes back to the tight place & sets you on your way again.

Love it for finding walks
Really neat interface. See others who have walked the suggested walks and their own route recordings. Easy to pull a route through to the recording page to record and follow at once. Ratings clear. Elevation helps show which way to walk the route. Can’t quite yet work out the map layers and how to download maps but not fully explored this. Would like to have OS maps overlay. Great for a free app. I have found some of the paid subscription ones clunky and to crash. Love this one.

Useless if you are hiking somewhere you don’t know
This app is great for templated routes, example If you are driving to or are situated near one, I was hiking/camping in conwy & hiked south through Rowen, lost my bearings a few times & the app was useless, it can’t even show you which direction you’re facing nevermind suggesting a nearby route or let you navigate to a destination, I searched routes nearby & it brought up results 30miles+ away, yeah great if I was in the car, doesn’t offer a great deal more than what you can get for free, better off with a digital copy OS map & maybe ViewRanger, haven’t tried it but seems to have more features, sadly once you purchase this year subscription you have no options for a refund only the satisfaction you won’t be stung for another £30 next year, I found the developers comment below patronising as they say thank you for your input but we’re still keeping your money, don’t buy unless you know exactly what little you will be getting!

Wow, Wow, Wow
The more I use this app, the more I love it. I’ve been a keen hiker/walker for years and have tended to just go somewhere and explore.
But with this app my trips are no longer hit and miss. I can explore places now without being disappointed.
I’ve even discovered trails around my local area (which is in the back and beyond) that are featured here!!
Can’t wait to try this app abroad when I’m travelling further afield again.
Fantastic app, keep up the fabulous work.

This App Is Excellent!
I was around 1 hour away from my home there was No signal and only 4G. For some reason I was unable to connect to google maps and i was lost around 1 hour away from home. I only have a few map apps on my phone and none of them could connect; however, this one could? I easily navigated my way home! This app is excellent and i would recommend this to anyone!

Superb app!
My husband and I downloaded this a few days back before we set off to Bibury in the Cotswolds. A stunning app and guided us on a family 12km walk! Did not realise there were also so many walks and running routes close to my home in bushey too! A great app and have already shared this with so many others! Thanks. MJohn

Every hikers best friend!
I don’t know how I ever went walking without AllTrails.
It gives you choices of new and interesting routes, near your current location. Or you can search in advance for places you want to visit. You can even plan your own routes using a variety of map layers, ensuring you use marked paths.
Once you get going, you can track your progress and it will even notify you if you are going off course.
A brilliant app, it has changed my life!

Excellent App
I was so pleased to come across this app last year. It’s very helpful helping to find routes in areas you don’t know very well. I also love that you can contribute by suggesting new trails; a few of mine have appeared and that feels good.
However, recently I have managed to lose stretches of my recordings as the app mysteriously stops. I have a feeling it’s because each time I open and close the app I have to swipe up from the bottom (iPhone XR) and I must be catching the record button as I do without realising. It’s very frustrating! I wondered if a widget that shows the distance and average speed etc might prevent my having to open the app to check while walking. Another alternative is to move the button away from the bottom centre to reduce the chances of catching it.
Other than this I love the app, all the stats it holds and the easy recording and share-ability of the walks. It’s nice to have the memories recorded in one place too.

Brilliant app!
I downloaded this when we arrived in the Cotswolds as our air bnb had only provided an ordinance survey map, and no suggested walking trails! This is exactly what I’d been looking for, it’s free, very accurate, you can search with different filters (length, difficulty, even in a loop) and we went on 3 brilliant walks using it. The only tiny downside is that the blue gps dot showing where you are on the trail doesn’t have any directional indicator, unlike google maps, so you sort of have to keep on top of it, and use landmarks to navigate, instead of just seeing which way you’re facing, but it wasn’t too much of an issue. All in all, a must have app if you’re going on a walking holiday!

Good for discovery
This is a good app to find hikes and get user reviews. It is also useful to download the map to check the route of not in coverage.
The slightly annoying thing is that sometimes when switching to the app, it reverts to the start view (looking for nearby trails) rather than the trail that was already being followed. In an area with poor data signal the app tends to freeze on this screen for a short while

Apple Watch waste of time
Today I recorded a track on my watch. App ask me to run app on iPhone as well so I did before I left home . I know a lots of nice tracks but when I back home app ask me to finish on iPhone. I have done 14 km trip around my town. When I finished recording on my iPhone as instructed , saved track showed me 0.1 km of 14 km I made( Bluetooth range).14km of tracks around Gillingham is not saved. Long story short this app do not work on Apple Watch without iPhone. So tell me please, What is the purpose of having watch capable of recording all your activity if you still have to run with your phone in the pocket?.

Few improvements needed
Just a couple of improvements are needed my first one being, when you have actually looked at your walk, to get back you need to press the small tick in the top left corner of a photo of the area you was looking at, it’s very hard to see it and would stand out more if the shot tick was inside a coloured circle with a colour that stands out same with the symbol on the other side. Also I wish we could covert the walk into miles either within your settings or show both. I’ve only recently downloaded the app so can’t actually do any of the walks I’ve got saved due to lockdown.

Great app for walkers!
The app is a must have for hikers. Use it all the time, don’t need to worry about a signal to use it and can keep a good track of my progress against the route!
I had an issue and emailed and got a response same day, so very happy with the support available!
Only feedback from me, it’s clearly a US based app, but would like to see a future iteration where the search facility is a little smarter and recognises I’m in UK so I don’t have to either type the full name of the place, or scroll through American places until I find the place I’m looking for.

shame GPSies is being shelved after so many years. While this app appears to be all singing all dancing and does have some neat attributes like gradients, pace etc. it's way too fiddly and clunky for an iphone with huge buttons that virtually fill the screen, and lacks the simplicity of GPSies. it's also almost useless unless you buy the season ticket. connecting to garmin downloaded two of my rides, one from 2013 and another from three weeks ago, the rest of my thousands of rides appear not to be included which is a bit odd and confusing. I always used the GPSies app as a way of studying future routes, which it did very well, this app does the same but to get to a plotted course there's a lot of unnecessary clicking and tapping. Still, i'm testing out at present and it's over use of buttons and clicks may work out. If not i'll just end up ignoring it like Garmins silly app.
Update. nope, this app is rubbish. big time

Top walking app
Hello this is a must Walking App for all walkers.! Whether your in a gps signal or NOT it will still track you and give you co-ordinates. Works extremely well. We are up in the lakes for a weeks break n Thought Id use this app for the first time.! So I went on the app n found a moderate walk we fancied n clicked on the directions n took us on to Google maps straight to the starting point I was so amazed by this what an app.! 👍 I clicked record n it showed in detail where to walk n its easy if you get lost to get back on track!
Download the app you wont be disappointed.!!

Good but could be better
As far as the app goes it’s fantastic but all of the useful information is basically hidden behind a pay wall. Admittedly not too much, but information to access where the nearest roads to the trails all, or being able to input the trail into your maps on your phone so you can actually drive and find it, again you have to pay for. I feel the app could be absolutely fantastic if you could simply do that in the free version.

Flawed
This app did suggest some good routes and when I started using it on a hike in the Cotswolds it seemed great... until I next checked my iPhone battery about an hour later. 100% fully charged battery when we set out it was now down to 30% (using an iPhone 6s). It was clear we would never make it through the day relying on this app. So we tried switching off the app between walks, but each time we switched the app back on there was no record of our walk so it took several minutes to reselect our route and then wait for the GPS. All this to pick between two muddy footpaths and meanwhile the battery’s burning. Absolutely hopeless.

Found the app towards the end of the year when the weather was turning, so managed to complete three trails before the weather got too bad. Tried to record a trail myself and it was a bit of a faff, but when I next have a full battery and time to kill I will upload one!

Recording Walking Routes
Just started using the app to record my longer walks. Great to look back on and also good that I can keep a history of where I have been.
I have found that the app does drain the phone battery so will get a new battery fitted to my iPhone, and make sure I have 100% charge. Just wonder if it would last on a full days outing.
