Version 2.3.15
My iPhone 14 Pro updated to iOS 17.3.1 and it seemed ok until I came to use GarageBand 2.3.15 (5262). Now the volume is not responding using apple wired inline earbuds. Now they did just fine until this update. I cannot volume up or down. I have restarted the iPhone checked the connection unplugged replugged and tried another set to no avail. I have also checked Automation within each track to make sure volume was not down per track. Close the app reopen and it starts full max volume and can’t be controlled inline. Close the app restart and no volume and it can’t be controlled again. Yes two sets of earbuds do the same. Now I tried another method. Open GB again with the same issues of no control close GB leaving earbuds connected but now open app Apple Music and hey presto both sets work just fine inline volume control. What gives Apple GB definitely has a bug. Please squish it.

This app is amazing, very versatile, very easy when mixing tracks and whatnot, the instrument section is great too, however, I do think some improvements can be made, I know this app has been around for a while so this probably won’t happen, but the option to tune the guitar/bass in whichever tuning you want would be a great feature, and also other guitars too, also being able to use the higher frets, this is just a suggestion but I would really love to see them in the app.

it’s good.

Enhancing iOS GarageBand: Missing Features and Mojave Compatibility Challenges

 –
Big Picture Person
 –
2024-01-24
Version 2.3.15
While I appreciate the functionality of iOS GarageBand, a notable feature seems to be missing. It would significantly enhance user experience if there was a direct option to copy presets and loop packs to iCloud Drive. In the past on iOS 14.3, I used Filza, installed through Trollstore, to transfer loop packs from GarageBand to iCloud Drive for manual additions to Logic Pro. Additionally, as I’m still on Mojave for various reasons, my MacBook Pro’s GarageBand is unable to download the newer sound libraries. This limitation adds an extra layer of complexity to the workflow.

Version 2.3.15
So only very recently I have tried making music more ‘professionally’ and this was an obvious option. It was brilliant all round but the more complex i got the worse it gets. I had finished a beat and I had a great rap sample for it and the tempos didn’t match! So i searched for a way to speed it up but the annoying thing about importing your own samples (at least for mobile) is they are restricted to the ‘loops’ section. The settings tab is missing a speed up/down function! Just little things like this infuriate me.
In conclusion, worth a shot but far from professional level, I will just find better alternatives.

Version 2.3.15
It’s amazing the drums are so good the guitar is amazing and everything else is to here’s where the bad part comes in
It feels like It hasn’t been updated since they made it and it feels like an 90s game (don’t get me wrong I love the 90s) but if your trying to make songs I wouldn’t use it because it’s not modern enough
Although all that it’s a great app and I would recommend it for people just trying to mess around or people who can’t afford crazy expensive ones for like 19.99 pounds a mouth 4 stars would recommend

Great app that’s with lots of features and instrument sounds, though the 44.1khz sample rate limits the quality of recordings. 48khz would be perfect for most people.
The interface is also looking a little dated. Perhaps the instrument/microphone panel could be displayed below the recording screen. Sending Midi drum data out to an audio interface would also be useful.

I had used to have no problems with garbage band and always be able to use this. I am unsure when it came around, but they made it so you need IOS 17.0 or later. Me having an older iPhone model am unable to update it to 17 or later, so I am currently stuck with ‘IOS15.8’. There would be no possible reason to restrict older iPhones to be able to access it, especially if they used to be able to. Other than that, it was a fairly good app.

I had 5 glitches really bad, these glitches puts me out of the game 1. If you have too much loops then the GarageBand App tells you that “you may have too many live loops to play properly” 2. for minutes the app made me confused by the iCloud icon the GarageBand folder had a transfer folder I deleted it and then tomorrow, it was Friday and I found out that another transfer folder appeared which was called “transfer folder 2” I didn’t even know what’s going on 3. When glitching the game it itself goes fully black 4. When I tried to play my first voice it went black again I couldn’t help with this app so decided to delete it but I really want to keep it 5. The GarageBand folder is confusing one song deletes my whole screen so I’m not sure what to do about this game anymore/deal with this app again.

I don’t like this, the fact you must update your iPad to the latest 17.0.3 update. It takes way too long, although I did update my iPad like it told me to, but the issue is I just wanted to make a ringtone without it telling me all the time I need to update my iPad. This should not be an issue. The problem is, the updates of Apple take too long and you actually need a specific amount of Gigabytes (storage) to actually download the software update. It took two hours for me to update it. I’m impatient so I’m surprised I didn’t lose my patience halfway through the update, otherwise I would’ve cancelled it a LONG time ago. It’s a good app though, I’ll give you that. I’ll throw you a bone and try it out.

just read all these reviews and most of them are from 5yo ago 💀 anyway I mean it’s a good app, I play piano so it’s literally just fun to play the piano on the app and just play the tunes I know, and then I get absolutely astonished when it actually works the same as an actual piano, but if I’m being honest I think apple has just gave up with updating it, it’s fun to go on once and a while if your REALLY bored, just wish it would stop deleting itself and then taking a whole generation to load back.

You Can’t Use Most Wired Headphones and the Internal Mic at the Same Time…

 –
Yang Breeze
 –
2023-09-01
You’ve just invested over a thousand pounds/ dollars on an iPad Pro and written a song on GarageBand.
Now you want to lay vocals down on the backing track you’ve just created?
Of course you want headphones to hear the track whilst you sing.
Playing the the track with no headphones and the iPad mic listening would record the track with your voice alongside the original track creating a horrible mess.
Trouble is most usb-c wired headphones come with a built in mic for phone calls which is of way worse quality than the iPad Pro mic (and wireless ear buds have latency that makes your voice out of time with the music).
Can you switch between internal mic and headphone mic with a simple button push? Not a chance.
This has been a long term problem so it’s down to lazy development and developers that just don’t care if you want your song to sound as good as it can.
You can trick the system by using non mic headphones and a headphone pin/ usb-c converter at extra expense but that’s it.
The second star is for creating non vocal music but otherwise it would be one star for “GarbageBand”.

GarageBand is an ok app, but it can be a bit hard to play the piano as the keys are quite thin and you can’t reach the higher notes or the lower notes without scrolling or pressing buttons, which can be annoying if you’re trying to record a song. Otherwise this is a great app! I think it’s really fun! Definitely get this app! Also I have a few suggestions.
#1 It would be cool if there was a feature in GarageBand which you can use to write songs. A bit like a mini version of the app Notes but in GarageBand.
#2 It would also be better if there was a feature where you can draw a cover pic for your song. I understand if not as that’s a lot of work, and if it might not be possible or reasonable as there are apps like Procreate where you can draw anything and add that, but I would love to have that in there.

This app has really made my musical skill way better! There is one thing I think they should add to the app tho. I think that’s should add a tuner!to tune our real life instruments. I think this should be added because there are very bad quality tuneing apps and Because GarageBand is such an amazing app I know they won’t let us down it will always be the best quality so no more struggling to find a good tuning apps! Carrying on to the good parts, GarageBand has a huge variety of instruments to try and to help with learning. Honestly I could spend the whole day making millions of songs with how much variety they have. I would definitely recommend this app to people trying to expand their musical skills.

This game is brilliant I play it quite often and it’s fun making your own ringtones. I was loving it from the start. But… it is quite a complicated game and beginners like me might need a tutorial I haven’t found one at all that worry’s me for garage band because their rating might go down and things like that. Also when you’re making a song you might want it to sound professional yes don’t get me wrong you can do that but when I go into the game there is a lot of different instruments. But if you really want vocals I have found you have to record them yourself??? Why record them when you can get like preset ones for example the vocal from Worlds Smallest Violin. You could use those song’s vocals for your song and that would be really nice and make the game much more enjoyable for me personally because I play this every time I can and the songs in the end make me feel a lot happier. Please respond developers and please fix these two things it would make your ratings a lot better. Have a good day 🤗🤗🤗

Can’t believe this is free!

This app is loaded with musical tools and allows you to construct songs in a number of ways from looping to linear timeline. It supports auv3 plugins and has a huge roster of built in fx. MIDI editing is super easy, I’ve always struggled with it in the past but not here. This is simply an amazing music production tool for absolutely free, if I had to complain I’d say that the inter app audio is a bit annoying as you have to record external apps in order for them to persist (Drum Jam for example) - it’d be better if they could keep playing in the background when not visible. Apart from that I would most thoroughly recommend this app, I’ve recorded an entire album with it and it sounds amazing! Cheers for this Apple 👍🤘

This is possible one of the worst producing apps on the market. Terrible navigation. No clear indication to navigate the UI. The UI is terrible. As a professional producer i found myself lost multiple times in the UI because of how mushed together and claustrophobic everything was. The tapping UI was very irritating not to mention there is no redo button incase you accidentally undo. The 8 bar “A,B,C” sectioning has to be one of the worst decisions anyone could of made. Most numerical measures have to put in individual instead if tap to type it in. Importing and exporting in tedious. The same motion to drag and drop import is the same to swipe and delete. This app is just terrible. If you’re looking for a comfortable producing software don’t use this app. If you’re a noobie looking yo make noobie loops and have fun, i guess this app will be of some use.

AMAZING!! 🙌

Garage band is such an amazing app. I love the piano especially, there are so many keyboards to try out! I love creating my own music and I discovered that you can also alter the sounds of each keyboard and I’m absolutely sure there’s many more things to discover. Starting off there are so many keyboards but you can download even more! There are also many live loops and many, many other instruments and that’s just the start. If you want an extremely high quality free music app then download Garage Band.

Got a message saying “Garageband unavailable - audio interrupted by another app.” Tried everything to fix this, until updating to iOS 15.7 when it told me on the App Store that it now requires iOS 16 to work, which won’t be released for iPhone 7. This stupid oversight now means I can’t access almost 4 years of work on the app, since I can’t open or run it anymore. I’m disappointed that Apple hasn’t left us with a version for iOS 15.7 that won’t receive new content but at least is still usable, I understand the push to make us buy newer devices, but this is really cheap and sly in my opinion. Will have to do what this was clearly supposed to make me do, and give them my money to be able to access my songs again…thanks Apple, very cool.

Amazing, but a few suggestions

I’ve been using GarageBand for years now, and I absolutely love it. It’s easy to use and record, the quality is really good and you can export it basically anywhere. I’ve recently downloaded some sound packs, and they’ve absolutely changed the game (well, app) for me. They allow for more varied instruments and changes which overall improve the quality of my music. That being said, I’d love some guitar themed sound packs (electric/acoustic/bass), especially some different guitar makes/instruments!

We have been using this app for a long time and we really liked it, however lately has stopped working properly. It closes itself, freezes often, stops working when connecting earphones and sometimes the loop simply doesnt produce any sound when playing...but the most annoying ones are the voice recording getting distorted after being made, and some song loops sound different when copied to a different new file. Also, the number of instruments that can be added in a song gets limited, like you delete one to add a new one and the app doesnt let you suddenly. Those errors destroy the possibility to work on a song, test your patience and break the focus. I hope they can fix these issues as other than that, very easy to use and fun, and has lots of potential.
However, consistently appearing errors, please help us in this matter. We cannot use this app properly, there are some changes made that we did not do, along with problems when trying to add new instruments, as well as all the above mentioned. Thank you all in advance.

To much storage I think it would be a good app but I can’t do anything because it takes to much storage on my IPhone I really hate it my friend and family do recommend it so I guess it’s ok but I’m still disappointed tell me what you think do you have the same problem or is my storage really bad even if It is I’m still sad it didn’t work out good for me but I think I will get more storage and then try it I don’t know if it’s hard or how to use it but I will use it one day but for now I have to wonder what it could do it should be good because my uncle used it and said was good and he’s in a rock band and he’s the singer but I’m still disappointed tho but not all things work out the way you always want them to sadly

Much improved over the years, so full Marks there. At last some useful, audio tools to use. Great sounds and instruments and just improving. Now the big fail. Latency. Gaping, massive, crippling latency. With some of the audio input presets I could hardy speak with monitoring on the latency was so poor. So I tried the most basic preset and still the latency was awful. Funny there are no settings in the app or in general setting to alter or even see what the latency is. Such a shame. The excellent Multitrack Daw has managed to get latency (probably in software) down to less than 2mS. GarageBand is like waiting for a bus. Come on Apple. Latency is audio kryptonite. Please get a patch out soon. Latest bug fix update STILL MASSIVE, YAWNING LATENCY And still no improvement in latency. Can we at least have an audio selection with no effects at all. This should make it an easier proposition to get the lowest latency. You (apple) could ask pwnified, creator of the wonderful Multitrack DAW app how he can achieve very low latency when apple can’t.

This app is great. It’s great that it allows you to make music for free, but... there are SO MANY small glitches and it can be super hard to do things on it. Almost every review I’ve seen says something like ‘it’s great, but there’s this one thing...’ and it’s been different EVERY TIME. I can’t update it for some reason, and all my tracks say I have to to get into them, even when I made them just a day before!
This means that I can’t change the pitch (because I need to update it) and I get SO CONFUSED with it!
It IS great that it allows you to make music for free, but i really want everything to be clearer, and I really, REALLY want to be able to access my songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve been making songs for years on GarageBand as it is a brilliant software to compose music on. However, recently I discovered that not one but every single song I’ve ever made and saved has been deleted. There appears to be no way of retrieving them either. My iPad has been low on storage for a while now but I don’t understand why it would just decide to delete, without my consent, all of my music that I’ve worked hard on. I would appreciate it if someone could explain either why this happened or how I retrieve my music. Thanks. :’(

A DAW for free, one that’s extremely user friendly, especially when compared with say Ableton, which should come with a “degree in music production needed” warning, if you ask me and I’m not a total dum-dum.
I don’t know what else you could want really, the amount of built in stuff is very impressive, then there’s the app’s that work alongside GB from reverb through instruments to auto tune and more, just make sure your device has a good amount of free storage is my only warning…
Excellent as is and definitely a good starting ground if you’re wanting to learn music production with the intention of moving over to the more advanced features of big brother and paid app Logic Pro X

I purchased the Magic Keyboard recently for the iPad Pro with the idea in my head of using GarageBand like it behaves with a Mac keyboards layout - the ability to use the keyboard as a MIDI keyboard to play instruments with actual physical keys - this however does not work. There is no mapping of the Magic Keyboard for playing the instruments like you would on a Mac. Quite unfortunate as I don’t enjoy using the touch keys to play any notes - I like having a physical key to press down for basic mapping and recording.
I really hope this gets implemented at some point so that I don’t have to carry around a separate MIDI keyboard when I want to record a short baseline or something like that on my Magic Keyboard.

I’m in my fifties now and I played in bands when I was young. Fast forward 30 years and I’ve hardly touched a guitar or piano in the interim...
...then I start fiddling around with GarageBand and it totally blows me away. You really don’t need any background in music tech at all when using this app. It’s incredibly intuitive and the interface is perfect for those of us who couldn’t face a full-on DAW costing £££.
The results? During lockdown I recorded 8 songs on this app and I’m delighted that I managed it. There’s so much scope here and it really invites creativity and innovation. I’m sure I’ve only just scratched the surface so far too. Brilliant stuff. Now if only I’d had this in 1986 you’d all probably own my Greatest Hits by now...okay, maybe not!

I made a beat on this app back in feb 2020, I was coming close to the point where I was tweaking it for a final mix, and went to listen to it yesterday but couldn’t find the track anywhere in the garage band app!
I check most recently deleted items and there was nothing there!
Now rewind back a month which was November 2020 and I was in the car with my daughter and my phone was hooked up to the car Bluetooth and she was watching Netflix and I heard a snippet of the beat I made in one of the programs she was watching! I couldn’t believe it and was so shocked I pulled the car over and had to rewind the part so just to make sure I wasn’t mistaken!
Now today December 11th 2020 I believe that the beat I made has been taken and used for the purpose of apple doing what the want!
I had saved it on other devices as I always do so I have evidence that I actually made the beat!

So I’ve been using GarageBand iOS for over a year now and it’s good for being a free to use software and it comes packed with a lot of great sounds that you can adjust to your liking, the only issues I have are that you can’t transfer your save files over to the desktop version, which would be super handy for final touches and allow access to a more professional set up like microphones, instruments and plugins!
Also in the new patch, the sampler seems to have been changed a lot and it’s super hard to find any type of way to add your own one shots or samples from your library, If I’m missing something, then I’d appreciate a small description of what’s changed and where things have been moved to!
Other than that, good stuff! 🤟

It’s a good and well made app don’t get me wrong however this game is absolutely MASSIVE this takes up wayyyy too much storage, just to download the app I had to delete over 100 photos and videos and several apps. I personally think there are some rather unused features which could be removed to help with this also the application can be pretty laggy and crash at times especially for people like me who have a slightly older phone. On a side note I personally think it’s quite confusing and hard to navigate sometimes which is quite off putting for new users but that might just be me.
But nonetheless it’s a pretty solid app and fun to mess around with or to make genuine music with. it works, and once you get the hang of it, it is very good.

It is a fun app and amazing but I would like to point out that when I try to make the free ringtone or whenever I go on the app it goes dark and I can’t see the musical instruments I can click on the icon but as soon as it goes in the music part nothing is there apart from the record sign, the stop and the play button. Then if I try to put the music in there is no lasso loop in the right hand corner. I wanted to make a free ringtone because it’s so much work if you download it onto the computer and I don’t want to waste money on ringtones. This ringtone part has worked for my friend and she keeps trying to explain but nothing is there for me what they’re talking about. I have deleted it and reinstalled it about 7 times and nothing has happened. I do wish this glitch could be fixed. I hope you see this review and fix it. I do suggest this app because it is amazing however this minor glitch is getting in the way. Download this app it is great. I hope this glitch can be fixed right away.

So overall the app is good, there’s lots to do and it’s amazing for being free. However, I’ve found that it stops loading any of your songs and soon stops loading any tools in the app you want to use, making the whole thing redundant. This is very annoying when you spend some time making a song only for the app to fail to load it meaning you can never access it again, wasting your time and effort completely. I’ve tried all solutions to fix this as given by apple app support from a quick google search and I even tried deleting the app and re downloading but the same thing happens again. If it wasn’t for the fact the app is completely useless because it doesn’t load any of your work then it’d be really good..

Absolutely brilliant

Amazing app for music production great to introduce people to the world of music making. However there are a few limitations on IOS that aren’t on the Mac for example you are only able to automate the output track and the effects and plugin abilities are also limited. Wether you enjoy creating with loops that are already loaded onto the app or playing the on screen keyboards it is absolutely brilliant! You are also able to download additional loop packs that include loops and presets. If you own an adapter midi controllers can also be used in this FANTASTIC app. I would pay good money for this however once you have mastered this software it is probably better to upgrade to its older brother “logic” that is also an amazing DAW but it does carry a hefty price tag.

Selfish and outdated Apple policy ruins a could be great app.

It has some great instruments and the on screen playing method of Guitar, Bass and Strings is unique and working really well but the introverted mentality of the “closed environment” that Apple pushes destroys an app that could be great and possibly the best DAW for iOS. Clearly Apple does not follow the evolution of iOS music, GB and the difficulty that small developers have to sustain their work shows that. The iOS music community exists because of small developers that revolutionised it. Not because of GB or any other “closed environment” that cashes a brand name. A joke of an app, just entry level and nothing more. Either change it to a Logic Pro equivalent or follow the buzzards of the iOS Music community or people will start to abandon you. There are a lot of complaints being ignored. Open it and play well with others. The “closed environment” mentality does not work any more. Cheers!

You may remember when I said that there was no way of getting GarageBand on iOS 12. Well... there is a way, and I’m sure it will make you happier if you have a device that doesn’t support iOS 12.
It’s very simple: When you enter the App Store, click the New button, and try to find an image of your profile at the top right. Then, click Purchased, and try to find GarageBand. Click the install button. It might say “Are you sure you want to download an old version of Garageband?”, but that doesn’t mean that you can have fun creating songs.
Try that strategy! It’s as easy as 1.. 2.. 3.. .

This app is brilliant, everything is well thought out and I use it a lot, great drum sequencer as well. I have a problem now though, having added a song as a loop then pasted onto a track to remix, I also put the tempo up to 172 so it was sped up, but later randomly all the parts of the remixed track slowed down to half speed rather than the original or faster as it should be, I thought it was a glitch and although very annoyed to loose my work started over only to have this happen again as soon as I added te virtual drums and bass! -Twice! I can’t get it to work but have no idea why it’s doing this help would be appreciated,
Thanks :)

I loved this app so much. When I found out it existed I loved it. I have never had so much fun doing music. This was all fine until the iOS 13 update. You see I have the iPad Air and it isn’t supported in the iOS 13 update so I’ve just lost all my songs I’ve made when I was just starting to really enjoy it and actually get okay at it by using all the Eqs and automations and wha not. It would have been fine if I could of just kept the app on a non updated version. That would have been fine with me. But no it deletes it and I can’t re-download it because I need IOS 13. Overall great app but really annoyed. Please just let us people on old gen iPads and iPhones still use it but on a non updated version!

Ok so I have created many ‘ideas’ and songs (full length) in this small daw app for years (I do own a decent daw btw) but what I find annoying is that you can’t just have projects that are in Icloud , go into the ‘on my device’ tab - this would make it a lot more easier to mange storage.
Do know of onedrive but I don’t know if you can zip files up within the app itself , would be nice if it was clearly shown maybe under iCloud as iCloud gets very full very quickly!
Also since I have this problem I sometimes have greyed out projects that display an error message on them - that isn’t that great to see.
Lastly I am a big fan of the free dlc content packs so far are ...
1. You can’t search by pack in the loops section.
2. Some of the loops/drum sounds seem slightly cut off at the ends - I appreciate all the work that goes into making a pack like this but reverb can fix it.
3. Please can you add a full brass pack as we only have ‘brass ensemble’ to use !
Will continue to use this app as it’s helpful to have when creating music on hopefully this is useful to both the app developer and other users.

Just a short review.

The only bad thing I can say about this app is that it takes soooo long to download. I feel this is due to the size of the app as there is such a wide range of features within the app itself. I love the variety of options accessible without having to pay a cent. I also love that there are more than just guitars and pianos and includes instruments from all over the world as well as being able to change the acoustics of each individual instrument as well. The best feature for me is the volume control and the bass and the fact you can mute and instrument and experiment with various sounds. The worst things about this app are; the file size is huge and takes a while to download, and the fact you can’t get me off it.

This app is great for pretty much everything. The virtual amplifiers are great and the whole app is easy to use. There are live loops (that sound amazing by the way) for beginners and even 4 different auto play sounds on each instrument. And to add to that there are barley any in app purchases if any!Yes not quite as technologically advanced as the MacBook version but still amazing and I don’t think we really appreciate any more of how amazing the technology is and the fact we can carry about 50 so instruments and a load of live loops, drummers and more in one reasonably sized app. I 100% recommend this app if you have not already got it.

I’ve been a songwriter for 25 years and yet I’m no musician, I’ve always had to rely on other musicians to provide me with music to write my songs to, this has been frustrating and restrictive for many many years, GarageBand has changed all that and not only given me a platform to write completely solo and make great sounds but it’s actually been comprehensive enough for me to produce 5 decent quality albums full of music / songs that I have released into stores using nothing more than the GarageBand app only, I can’t praise this app and it’s quality and ability enough, it’s simply the best app ever to me personally and I thank the developers for this eternally.

Love Garage band and have been using it for years. Really enjoy messing around with all different sounds and effects etc but...here’s an idea.
How about the ability to assign and change time signatures, also, give more time signatures to choose from.
I use GB as a metronome and a playback for when I’m learning songs. I’m currently learning a piano piece that has a few time changes every few bars, from 3/4 to 4/4 then the odd 2/4 as well. It would be great if we could use the ‘add section’ and change each one to a different time sig.

I have just returned to this app in the hope of using the automation remix functions to make choppy beats. It works great - record a simple beat and then record automation of the fx using beat repeat, delay and a host of others. You then ‘merge’ the tracks to record as audio. The problem is I want to build up a layer of this. I have encountered loads of bugs here - the fx greys out and stops working, you cannot delete the fx properly (it may be still playing even if the automation is not).
Don’t let this detract from a fine app. I just think it needs some sorting out to be more logical for those interested in using its more extravagant features.
Alchemy is the best sounding synth for out of the box creativity. Don’t let us down Apple. Sort out the bugs!

This is a review I just had to do to give apple some credit. The thing that I think is weird is that it used to be £4.99 but now it’s free. There are two words I need to say about this pricing from going from £5 to FREE. Those words are ‘it shouldn’t’. The reason I say that is because it is probably the best music software you can possibly get on any IOS device. That just blows me away. That’s basically all I wanted to say so thanks for wasting 5 of your precious minutes reading this review! (Btw all of this was true I just added a bit of humour into it because why not! Bye!!!!!)

Absolutely amazing. I have made many tunes and songs from this app, and the way it is free baffles me. I find it very easy to make a tune and I love the way it has a guide to start you off! The sounds of the instruments are phenomenal and I'm in love with the voice recording studio, the way you can alter the sound of your voice to be robotic, auto tuned and many more is great and I would totally recommend this app to anybody who likes to experiment with instruments and making songs then this is definitely the type of app for you! Although this app is amazing already, I do think it has some more potential. Such as: adding in instrument guides to popular songs, or be able to tune the guitars. I say this because I am learning on the guitar to play somewhere over the rainbow (and I am doing pretty well for no guide) but some of the keys are off and all I need to do is tune it slightly to make it perfect. To the developer of this game, I hope you see this and great game! Would recommend!

I’ve been writing songs with this app since its arrival and while there are some serious irritations, it has come a hell of a long way in terms of sophistication in mixing, fx, smart instruments, etc. There is a huge world of musical creativity at your fingertips here and the quality of what you can produce with a bit of practice is very good. Seriously. Until Nanostudio 2 arrives, this will remain my iOS DAW of choice. Oh and the serious irritation? Just the fact that Apple deliberately restrict functionality here and there, e.g. not allowing GB to be an input source for audiobus! Just petty.

GarageBand is good, but it can be really buggy. Often, I will close down the app, and try to open it later, but it always takes me back to the home screen. When I am in the track view, it really lags when I try to move across, and often lags on live loops. When it doesn’t let me open the app, I have to delete and re-download the app for it to open, and I lose all my tracks that are not in the iCloud Drive. I’ve already lost 6 tracks like this.
Please fix these problems, and it will massively improve the app. Also, I think the sound library should be updated more often.
Thank you for reading.

Super easy to use yet still surprisingly powerful and versatile for a free mobile app. I’ve been using it to make music for years and have yet to find anything else that comes close to how good this app is. It’s amazing how many instruments and customisation options there are. Recommended for everyone, even complete beginners can jump straight in and start creating!
Only issues would be are a lack of brass instruments and there are only a few different guitar sounds. The 32 track limit is also frustrating.

So when I first got this I was experimenting with all the sounds. And surprisingly they sounded just like the real instruments! Im saying this because when I got another music app the guitar was so bad. On the other hand I highly request this for people who cant get or aren’t allowed to the instrument: E.g For many years I've wanted drums but at that time we were moving house so I waited for the time we moved. After that our house was tiny and unable to fit drums in.😑. So when I got this app I was very in to it. My parents asked me if I wanted a drum kit and I replied: “Why have a giant kit when you can have a transportable one?” Now they have the app and love it.

This used to be work perfectly with a USB cable and a lighting adapter. It no longer works with USB Cable and a lightning adapter. Lots of frustrated people have left this on Apple message boards and the problem cannot be fixed.
Apple does not know what the problem is. As you will see, whenever there is an update there is NO mention of fixing this KNOWN issue, otherwise it would not have remained so long.
So it is of no use to you if you have a keyboard with a USB output because it cannot recognise USB cables. It may recognise a MIDI interface, but if you don’t have one, then you are not able to use an external keyboard to play; you’ll be stuck with trying to play your iPhone screen, or using their preset chords, but won’t be able to do anything of your own.
The program is great apart from that, but seeing as it is a sequencer program, what is the actual point of the most basic thing such as being able to plug a keyboard and play it actually not even working? That’s like having a computer where the keyboard can’t be used to input text!

A Good App... Ruined.

Ok. “You can please some of the people, some of the time” etc. Yes it’s a freebie. What do I want for free? As a committed long term LogicPro user I have recently entered the wonderful world of iOS music apps. To describe Garageband as not fit for purpose is to be polite. As a sketch pad for material designed to be transferred into LogicPro it needs to be redesigned from the ground up and made fit for purpose. Midi, audio, require seamless integration in the 21st Century. The fact that devices like AUM don’t permit audio recording into the app drives me to consider buying Cubasis 2 which does what I need at a price. Have Apple just given up on business? Audio timing is way out of sync if your trying to do anything other than the most basic thing using the onboard stock sounds. If Apple want a proprietary sealed system why open it to outside development?
By all means use GB if you are new to making music but you will eventually want something to take your ideas forward and - at the moment - it won’t be Apple.
Apple; no more cool ideas now is the time for cool implementation and building an iOS system which can actually compete with your competitors who are currently leaving you way behind. Or aren’t you interested anymore?

Love this app. Have been using it for years. The improvements keep coming as well.

To give it 5 stars I would want to see more flexibility with the guitar. So more styles, more range on the neck, a whammy bar, and the ability to input, import and amend guitar tabs. Also it would be great if the fading could be modified per track at different times and the tempo could be varied throughout a song (live mixing macro). The ability to bounce completed tracks to a single track to free up more track space would be good as well. Also when are sleigh bells coming to the app - we need more Christmas number ones !

I can’t download this. Why?

I’ve had this app before but now it won’t let me download it again. I’ve deleted about half of my apps, photos and videos, maybe more, but it still won’t work. It starts of by loading fine, but after ten minutes at the same place it was at when starting to load, a reminder type thing comes up saying: ‘garage band’ can’t be downloaded at this time. I then click try again (or something like that) and it does the same thing again! I’m not sure if it’s a glitch on my type of iPad (iPad air 2) or if I still don’t have enough storage to store it. Is anyone else having this problem?
