App doesn’t track your rides and hardly lets you book them

If I book over the phone, when I click the message link to track, the app doesn’t recognise any booking. If I try book through the app itself, 90% it says something has gone wrong and it cannot make a booking at this time. Leaving me to phone instead and not be able to live track my booking

I booked 2 taxis on app. At least that what was confirmed. Only 1 arrived. Checking on the app I got the number of driver for 2nd. Phoned number be he didn't have booking. Phoned office and they said no. app doesn't take 2 bookings but doesn't tell you that. 30 yrs + with city cabs.. but that's it. .

Not reliable…

Pre-booked a taxi as expected it to be a busy time, booking was confirmed, but never showed up. I then phoned and spoke to an operator who confirmed they were still searching for a driver and I confirmed I still needed the taxi. About 10-15 minutes later, received a notification to say my booking was cancelled. Subsequently phoned back multiple times and eventually got through to be told no idea why cancelled but could book again. Complete waste of time so would avoid using them if possible.

Ok functionality, will spam you

Does what it needs to do for the most part, but will spam you with promotional notifications with no setting in the app to turn these off (contrary to Apple guidelines).

Options are to delete the app or turn off notifications altogether. The former is more tempting.

Absolutely useless

Pre-booked a cab for a 4am ride to the airport. Instead of actually pre-booking a cab, this app just started searching for the driver at 3:50. Needless to say, it didn’t find any. Absolutely useless, ended up calling an Uber.

Avoid; it makes unauthorised charges

If, as it asks when you set the account up. you give a credit card, on making a booking it charges the card and if the cab doesn’t arrive this charge is still there. They claim they’ll refund on complaint, but then ignore this. You can still use City Cabs without the app by making a phone booking, but the better way to avoid unauthorised charges from this firm is not to deal with them!

App is not great

Be aware if you connect Apple Pay to the app you get charged twice - although one payment does get reversed it takes quite a few working days to do that. Also the only way of removing a payment type is to delete the app. As other reviewers have said, very counterintuitive. City cab drivers are always great, but the app is terrible. Also selecting wheelchair taxi doesn’t seem to get the message through to the drivers.

Another example of an update spoiling everything. Landing page stuck on last job instead of letting me book a new one. Not clear how to get rid of that screen and get on with it.

Used it twice now once very early morning and once at night. Got a can very quickly. Uber cancelled more than once. Better than Bolt and Uber in Edinburgh.

Please fix the time scrolling

Have you tried to book for a time or date in the future? The clock dials drift off the numbers - most apps these days click and stick when the numerals change. So annoying. Worse any operation you try on an iPhone pulls down the screen - so def not a one handed job. Please fix !

Pointless using the app, would have been better using Uber

Booked a taxi to the airport the day before. On the morning of the booking the app said the taxi was 20 minutes away at the time they should have been picking me up.

I called the office who told me they were very busy and and I should have planned ahead for delays.

I have been travelling to London regularly 25 years so do not need to be patronised - a taxi booking service that allows you to pick a specific time should be reliable.

When the driver arrived he said he had only received the job at the time the booking was due and he lived 20 minutes away.

An unnecessarily stressful start to a long couple of days and I can’t help feeling that I was lied to by the helpdesk.

I’ve lost an hour trying to use this app to book a car to the airport. For the life of me I can’t understand what it wants- allows you to choose a position on map, then asks for more info and won’t accept it. Allows you to choose the airport, even asks for a flight, then just sits there - what does it want!!!

Avoid at all costs. Does not notify you when you have connected with driver. Pressing ‘done’ while searching takes you back to the first page, app sits in background still searching l found out. Again with no notification that it was searching or if driver was found.

Poor pre booking

When booking a cab that is not the time they will arrive at your door. That is the time they will issue a job request to cabs, the person who accepts might be 30 minutes away (as what regularly happens to me) which means a 5am pre-book turns in to a 5:30am pick up. Which is annoying with a flagged airport run.

Appalling service

This app generates inaccurate error messages, which resulted in me being charged for a ride I had not booked. I was informed by the app that the booking had not gone through, rebooked and ended up with two bookings (unbeknownst to me). This resulted in me being charged a cancellation fee for a ride I did not take. Unimpressed.

I’ve used this three times, and every time had a phone call from an irate taxi driver looking to start a fight about where I was. Certainly not worth the aggravation.

I've attempted to use this app repeatedly, during the day and on late nights, but find myself waiting for 15+ minutes for any driver to accept my request, if they even do before I have to cancel my order and have a friend order an uber. It's exceedingly hard to support traditional taxis when the service provided is so inferior.

Unreliable

Have used this app no issues for years but now it never recognises my address and today the cab never arrived despite ordering it 2 hours early & them saying it was on its way. When I eventually got thru on the phone 10 mins after it was due they said they were still looking for a driver and we’re busy. No apologies for not sending it or telling us it wasn’t in its way. I won’t use it again.

This morning I was trying to get an Uber to work, Uber and bolt were taking a while to accept so I decided to try black cab, a bolt had accepted as the black cab was searching for a driver, I proceeded to cancel the black cab and as I was leaving my house to get my bolt a black cab pulled up but I didn’t think much of it. As I get in my Uber the black cab driver is honking his horn and shouting and I ignored it as I had cancelled the black cab, as I get in my Uber which he followed me too he started shouting at me and I told him I had cancelled it on the app, he became sarcastic and was still mad standing at my Uber. If I was not in a car I would have been more terrified, this man was in his late 40s early 50s and he is shouting at a 20 year old girl in the middle of the street at 8:30am. Not only is it embarrassing it was scary!

Worst app

I love using black cabs much more than uber but this app is just so bad. Booking taxis in advance doesn’t work, even days earlier, they are still late or unaware they’ve been booked. Instant booking never really lets you know what is the waiting time before they’ll find a taxi driver. They only notify you once the taxi is nearby but between the booking time and the notification time you could be waiting 20 minutes or 40 minutes.

No point in this app so will be deleted. You book a taxi for a specific time, pick up point and location. This doesn’t actually confirm the booking it only alerts drivers of a request in the area. Will never use City Cabs again.

Left hanging for nearly 1hr today after my cab failed to show. App doesn’t reflect availability of the cabs so should be removed, it’s better to phone apparently. Disappointed my calls weren’t answered today to chase whereabouts of cab.

No priority for pre-booked trips

The app used to be great but something has changed and now there’s no priority for pre-booked fares, your request just gets held until 10 mins before the trip and you go to the back of the queue behind all the new calls that day. Booked an early airport taxi weeks in advance and it was 30 mins late, no updates. Told on the phone “well you shouldn’t have booked it on the app then” - not very helpful. Taxi driver was great though.

My mobile number doesn’t work with the app as it thinks my number has been blacklisted which is interesting given I had never used the company before I tried to set it up (I only moved to Edinburgh a few years ago). I’ve never had any kind of altercation with a taxi driver in my life either so it’s all very strange. No issue with phoning the taxi firm directly though and I have used them many times since moving here. Company is perfectly fine, app is… unusable!

Nice idea but poorly designed

Nice idea to have an alternative to Uber, but doesn’t work too well. I wasn’t notified of our cab being outside for pick up which seems like an oversight. Our driver was understandably annoyed we were late but I didn’t know he was waiting. Seems like a basic function of a taxi app…

Problem with profile photo

Good app, but why can’t I download my usual profile photo when I have allowed the app full access to my photo library. It comes up with fifteen of my photos to choose from, none of which are my usual profile photo, that I have on all other apps and websites. I have tried to fix this problem, but I have been unsuccessful. It is rather irritating.

Sorry guys, I don’t like Uber but I have to go with them as your app is crap! I’m trying to authorise a credit card for payment and the app just hangs. I don’t know whether I have a booking or not.

The app is quite complex to use and not intuitive. I have a degree in IT and I’m struggling with it.

With latest update I can’t select a taxi tomorrow earlier than the current time.

Which is a bummer when it is late and I want to book a cab for first thing tomorrow morning.....

Upgrade in August 2020

Not enjoying the upgrade to the app in August. It’s clunky and for some reason they charge your card before the taxi arrives. Then refunds the difference. I’ve taken to call the operator instead. They also mentioned lots of bad feedback received on the phone. Please revert to a non Uber looking interface. You can do better than that.

Taxi form is fine, app is not

This app often sends out two taxis even when only one is booked. I’ve spoke to the operator on the phone about this and been told there’s nothing they can do, but that doesn’t improve the awkward conversations with drivers that think you’ve done it on purpose, or the fact they charge you £2.20 fallout fee for something that isn’t your fault.

Frustrating app

When selecting to and from addresses the Next button is in the same place as the Book button on the next page. The problem is that it generally goes to the next page automatically and it’s really easy to Book there and then instead of later on. On another note, have been let down with too many late arrivals going to the airport. Going to try someone else.

Easy to use and first booking accepted fine - taxi didn’t show and when I phoned I was told that was to be expected as it was so busy so I should have booked by phone anyway and the call handler never used the app! No apology

Rubbish

Used to be an excellent simple app, but now they've tried to add functionality and instead have made it complex, irritating & frankly unusable. And why on earth should you need to register your details just to order a cab?! Pointless. What a shame.

Latest update no improvement

I’ve been using this app for some time now but it continually frustrates me and the recent upgrade is no better. For one thing it didn’t recognise me and I had to register again although I then found that my old favourites had been found! The way the program works is counter intuitive and it’s about time it was completely redesigned otherwise the taxi/private hire companies who use it are going to lose business to the likes of Uber.

Such a bad app

I ordered a cab, the app confirmed the booking, offered me to track the driver, but nothing appeared there. So I waited and waited, and then suddenly it was saying the driver is one minute away. By the time I got downstairs, the guy just left. Not using this ever again. Uber is so much more reliable.

App has a severe bug

I'd been using this app for a considerable time, with numerous favourite locations defined (which, incidentally, is a total pain to go through) when one booking failed to go through due to a network signal problem ... and ended up in the system in "an undefined state". This booking cannot be completed, can't be deleted, and City Cabs' only solution is "delete and reinstall" -- including copying in any saved favourites from scratch, by hand.

This just isn't acceptable. (On top: app not designed for use on large screen iPhones, e.g. iPhone 6+ or 7+, let alone ipad.) Switching to a rival booking firm's system.

Great service with fast arrival once booked, loads more cars than the uber service, but uber have an Apple Watch app. This will be a five star app when it supports the watch too!
