What's New in Version 7.0.8

What's new in this release.
Fixes for WatchOS 10.
Specifically issues with not being able to select workout or shoes on the AW start up screen.
Other minor fixes.
** Garmin uploads are not yet fixed. This is caused by a change on the server side. I am trying to come up with a fix.
What's new in v7.0.x
*Always On Display.
*Apple Watch Ultra Action button Supported
*"Do nothing" was added as an option for the actions of the AW buttons.
*"Walking power" is added in the Apple watch setup page. AW reports 0 W power when you walk and this can spoil your stats. By defining "walking power" the app will record this when you walk instead of 0.
*Another template is added with 5 metrics per page (1-2-2)
*Various bug fixes
** Minimum WatchOS version required: 8.0
*** Support for Pebble, Wahoo RFLKT, KICKR and Magellan Echo is removed due to compatibility issues since these are not supported any more by the respective companies.

Awesome app

Great additions to support the Apple Watch ultra! The best running app just got better
I had an issue a year or so ago (where Strava changed some of their settings) and the developer was super responsive

Pro feature not working

I had to remove the app and now the pro features I paid don’t work.
When I go to feedback within the app it says “device not configured to send emails” so can’t ask for help, waste of time as looking to go for a run but without the pro version I can’t import my run.
Very disappointed

Great without a watch

Dabbling in HR training, but didn’t want to shell out for another gadget. Managed to use my iPhone 12 mini with a Polar H9 Hr strap and this app and I love it. Just have to run with earphones in and it’ll notify me when I stray out of my target zone(politely interrupting whatever I might already be listening to) so very good for pacing. Also very good customisation possible if you want to setup specific training targets, distance / hr / time and your specific Hr zones. Used for x7 runs and it’s working great, no bugs or issues. This is for the basic version so I consider it good value for ~£5

Apple watch sync not working

I was so excited about this app after seeing good reviews here and on Reddit, but the whole experience has been very disappointing. Setting up workouts was not very intuitive but it did work ok in the end.
However, the sync between my watch and phone is just not working, even after following all the steps from the FAQ. I mostly run on a treadmill so I need at least my watch to work fine - but not only it can't work with the phone, but also it can't work on its own.
I cannot see any of my custom interval trainings on my watch despite having synced the data about 50 times. I'll be trying to get a refund... so disappointed

Purchased and deleted in under 5 mins

Not for me, shame you have to spend a fiver to see if you like an app or not, I have moved from Garmin to Apple Watch and looking for an app as close to the connect app as can be, this isn’t it, it looks like it could possibly be a good app if you want a few extra stats on your watch that the native app doesn’t have and looks as though you can have a few graphs etc but I’m looking for an app that has an easy view of runs over past week/month etc, also to check heart rate, cadence etc at an easy glance, this might be able to do it but just seeing the interface of the app and personally wasn’t feeling it.
Am sure many will be happy with the app.

Does this work with Apple Watch 6?

Just paid £4.99 for an app that doesn’t seem to work.
For some reason all that watch will display is:
Distance: 1:20:25-
Chrono: 05:32
HR: 145.3
These values are static and won’t update.
Seems like this app is broken?

Problems with MilestonePod stats

I’m using iSmoothRun on an iPhone SE (First edition) with a MilestonePod. I cannot see all the pod stats even if the font is on its smallest setting. Characters are cut off. Generally a really good app but this is frustrating. I’ve emailed developers twice and messaged them but no reply.

Waste of time & money

Liked the idea of the app but after using it won’t always upload to Strava , really difficult to set up intervals and absolutely no back up via Facebook or website whatsoever. Don’t waste your money on this crAPPA. If I could get a refund I would but there’s no way to make contact unless FAQ can pick up a keyboard. Utter waste of time

Brilliant

I love this app, it’s perfect for creating workouts, which as a beginner runner is amazing. I love the fact that you can have the voice to tell you how long you have left and your stats. It’s good to be able to log your trainers and I like the fastest song feature. The tech support is really good too.

Jaynie

I thought this was the best running app for years, now it has gone so strange, I haven't changed settings and out the blue it's telling me to "run/walk, faster/slower/steady" in my ear all the time! It's so annoying! I'm doing 100miles in April, thank god ive only another 11 to go and then I will scrap it! Such a shame!

brilliant app

its a very well thought out app.
works very well with stryd which i use and the zwift runpod.
i'm blind and train on a treadmill so this is important to me.
and the voiceover support is pretty much flawless.
intervals, run/walk, time distance based all good stuff.
and the best efforts are handy for working out how effective the charge for home was!
savaging my 10km time at the moment due to the app and stryd.
only minor quibble is that the auto pause can kick in when u really dont want it to.

Great App...when it works

I was about to give this app a 5 star review after 2 weeks of using, but unfortunately had a disappointing experience today. During a run while connected to Apple Watch, the HR measurement flatlined half way through the run. Other apps on the watch were able to measure HR during this period with no problems. Unfortunately iSmoothRun did not recover. Very disappointing as I was doing HR target intervals at the time.

Best running app for Apple Watch

I’ve tried so many apps and this is by far the best. It’s very accurate and exports well to Strava. Nothing else compares.
Minor improvement is a complication for the watch for quicker access and start/stop by pressing the side button. Hopefully see these in the future.

Mostly really good apart from one thing: auto resume

I’ve used this for a while now. Great data collection and sharing and the support team are really good. The only thing that bugs me is this:
I start my run,
Pop my phone into my armband
Run
Take phone out of armband
Find that it’s paused when I put it into the armband and it hasn’t recorded any of my run.
So I have found that I have to keep checking that it has started recording and not paused from me somehow brushing the screen.
Ives tapped start. I’m evidently moving. So take off the pause and record my run.... please!!

Cannot get intervals to work on Apple Watch

Nope full of errors

I hesitated when spending £4.99 on an App, but this had good reviews. Wanted to customise fields more than the native AW4 running app allows. However, iSmoothRun doesn’t work on my Apple Watch 4. Won’t sync settings from phone (latest iOS) and watch keeps saying Error:activated. Also won’t find my Stryd on my AW4 which I have paired with my phone and the phone App. Have deleted and reinstalled. There’s no trouble shooting for this, so I want a refund. Installing and using Apps should be easy. This is a fail.

Unreliable Interval Notifications

I’ve used this app for a few months mainly for running and some cycling. I find it works fine if the intervals are for longer periods of time. For shorter intervals (i.e. 30 seconds with 30 seconds recovery) the watch will sometimes notify you when the interval is finished and other times it won’t. This really affects your workout if you don’t want to be staring at your watch the entire time and calculating time between intervals. Major flaw the more technical my runs have got. If you plan on having a coach via TrainingPeaks with tailored workouts this won’t work for you in the long run. I’ve just sadly had to buy a Garmin and resign my Apple Watch due to this as I’ve had enough. I want to focus on my runs, not whether this app is going to work or not.

Frustrating problems making it unusable

For some time (at least half a year) I’ve been having problems with phone/watch communications whereby when in watch+iphone mode it frequently freezes upon starting, and worse occasionally freezes mid run: which stops your workout tracking. It works in watch only mode, but that isn’t accurate enough.
I’ve emailed the developer about this but have not had an acknowledgement. And judging by the other reviews here, this is a common problem that the don’t seem to care about.
This is shame because it was a great app that I used to recommend to everyone I met. Now, I can only recommend it is avoided :-(

Going downhill

I have been a loyal user of ismoothrun having used it exclusively to track my running fir 6 years. But with the release of version 6 it seems to be fraught with issues.
Previously I never had any problems with the gps, communications to to Apple Watch or the touch on the Watch.
But now the touch works sporadically, if I use iPhone + Watch mode then pausing can take several attempts and I now hardly ever have a run when it doesn't drop from gps to use the pedometer causing sections of the route to be missing on the maps for any upload
I've been hoping that recent releases would fix these issues but I have now got so frustrated waiting I have decided to call it a day with ismoothrun
I also think the philosophy of keeping everything local is past its time. Syncing to iCloud to allow sync to ismoothrun on another device would be useful without having to do a complete device restore from backup

Easily the best running and cycling app

This is without doubt my favourite app for both running and cycling. The ability the export sessions to other apps is brilliant. Works great on Apple Watch too. In my opinion the only thing holding this app back a bit is the name. Needs something a bit catchier.

Best running app for Apple Watch

I think I’ve tried all of the running apps available for Apple Watch out there and this is definitely the best. One of the major features for me is the ability to use the phone GPS (which in my testing is still more accurate than the GPS in my AW2), but I can also use the Watch GPS stand alone if I need to. Then there are the customisable Watch fields and audio cues as well as the ability to record the weather and other data and post all of this to various apps like Strava and Nike+. It all works great and is very accurate and consistent.
Ideally needs a few extra things like a complication from the Watch and the ability to use Watch held music so it can be truly stand alone but these are minor.

Brilliant implementation on Apple Watch

Hooray. At last Apple Watch is supported as a standalone app using built in GPS. Works way better than others at giving a reliable steady pace reading that is responsive. Would be nice to have a third page of metrics (9 fields instead of supported 6). Thanks

Perfect training app

The best exercise logging app I have found

Logs everything with ease with inputs from bluetooth HRM, Fitbit weighing scales, outputs to smartwatch and Bluetooth headphones etc. Great stats and graphs and exports to other exercise tracking apps like Runkeeper, Fitbit, Strava etc. if you wish to. You can set some great custom exercise routines to suit your requirements. The best and most versatile app that I have come across.

Not so good these days if you have an apple watch

Was the best runing app out there. Chuck Nike and use this instead. It even exports to Nike automatically.
Well, since saying all that and using the app for all my running life for the past few years, I have dropped my star rating a couple of points because the writers seemed to have abandoned support now. There is a bug with the apple watch in that completed runs don't export properly when a run is stopped on the watch. Despite mails to Lake Horizon, no replies or fixes are being received. I think they have given up on what was the best running app on the iphone.
I now use Strava!

Best Fitness/Training App for Pebble Smart Watch

This app is an excellent training & fitness partner, I have tried many and this wins hands down.
Works seamlessly with my Pebble watch, provides clear statistics & buzzes progress notifications, all of which can be personalised.
Ability to personalise just about any stat within the app is great and adding specific workouts is great.
Seems very stable and exports to Strava has been reliable. I've now dumped all other fitness apps other than this & Strava, they work great together.

Not usable with Apple Watch gps!

This app only worked as display for the Apple Watch. I have no reason or need to run with a phone.
The interval editing would have been useful but you have no option for an open ended warmup and cool down. Which does not suit my running needs!

Best running/cycling app I've found

Perfect for monitoring progress by GPS, cadence (with a metronome to help optimisation) and heart rate. Seamless exports to Dropbox (and then to Endomondo), Daily Mile and Strava, Garmin Connect, Movescount, Runkeeper are used by me although it offers many more. It even allowed bulk export of more than a whole year of runs when I recently signed up to these other sites. I love the customisable periodic audio commentary on distance, pace, cadence, HR etc. Fully programmable intervals (including warm ups and cool downs as desired) are great. Can select audio playlists also direct from the app.
It's also great for cycling, hiking, skiing, skating, any gym cardio workouts (even accurately estimating treadmill distance by the accelerometer or footpod if used) and other activities. It uses HR data (when available) for calories burnt calculations unlike some other apps. I use a Viiiiva HR monitor which also bridges between Bluetooth and ANT+, so have also connected Garmin ANT+ footpod. Although the built-in pedometer from accelerometer is almost as good (except when I use my arm for drinking etc.!)
Highly recommended.

Great with Pebble Steel (original)

I use this app in conjunction with the Pebble iSmoothRun app when out cycling and it's exactly what I was looking for. Before having a Pebble I originally just used the Strava app but found having to click start, then faff with putting phone in bag, gloves back on before setting off wasn't ideal. ISmoothRun lets me hit Check Sensor Status to wake up pebble app and then I can pop phone in bag and when finally ready to set off after probably more faffing, I can Start recording directly from the Pebble. At the end of the workout iSmoothRun automatically exports to Strava! Excellent integration - 5 Stars and keep up great work Devs!

The BEST running app

I've been using this app for a couple of weeks now and it beats everything else out there hands down. Best thing is being able to make your own personalised interval workouts and then get audio cues while your running. I've always been a fan of nike+ because I like the charts etc but now I use this app with all it's additional features and simply export my run to Nike+. The run then shows on my nike+ app as though I've used it for the run!! AMAZING! (You can export to loads of other sites too) And works seamlessly with my polar Bluetooth smart heart monitor. The developer also emailed me back within a day when I suggested some additional features. BUY IT!

Advanced Functionality. Brilliant

The app is fantastic on the account that you can customise data fields / create customised workouts and sync with a million and one fitness accounts
I would like to see better sync with garmin connect (apparently they have change their auto sync on third party apps - boo Garmin). Better music controls (during run). More than one set of data screens during run. A bit more customisability in workout editor i.e. custom hr ranges for warmups and workouts. Custom workout segment instructions.
Bottom line: some niggles, but this is the only app I have witness to come close to the advanced functionality my Garmin Forerunner 610 / custom workout ability online offers.

Impressed so far

Only been using this app for the last week or two so is early days but got to say I'm impressed.
Previously I was using both Runkeeper and Strava at the same time for all runs or rides. So I was interested in using this single app instead which would just export to the other services (as well as twitter and Facebook) at the end of each activity. That work flawlessly so makes recording activities way easier.
This app is also way more customisable than any other I've used for training activities. Only tried it on runs and created a few interval runs specific for a route I had in mind. Creating the route/interval run was nice and easy but sadly something didn't quite go to plan when running it. The audio cues I got at the start of each fast or recovery segment would shout random numbers (ie 300 fast, 100 recovery when it should have been 20seconds fast and 2 minutes recovery). For this reason I will only give 4 stars. If this gets fixed (or I figure out what I've done wrong) I may come back and amend.
This app also has massive potential for connecting with HR monitors and other external sensors but I don't have any to test it with so can't comment on that side of it.

Excellent - now used instead of RunKeeper Pro

I have been using RunKeeperPro for a few years for recording my fitness activities, and used a Garmin Forerunner 305 with the bike cadence and Heart Rate strap as well. Sadly my Garmin died so I deceided it was time to invest in the Wahoo bike case to pair with my ANT+ devices.
Runkeeper can only record the heart rate and looking at the recommendations on Wahoo went for iSmoothRun.
The app is fab. for both MT & Road bikes it maintains the total milage. I need to work out my shoe milage and add that as well. Using accelerometers if there's no GPS signal - great for the Turbo Trainer in the garage. With the other appsI would have to add the event manually.
Very easy to set-up and use, especially if your odd like me and work in feet, inches and Kg, just toggle between imperial/metric on the set-up.
I had a couple of small issue on the 2nd bike outing with it not recognising the Wahoo case and the support desk were very prompt and sorted it quickly.

Cracking app!

Brilliant app. I've used a number of others including Nike+ and Runkeeper, which are good for tracking and run keeper gives program's but they don't have the background abilities of this app to both set up a workout AND control pace at the same time. The beauty is this can log into the two above so you still retain all your tracking! Don't get me wrong this could do with a few tweaks to add some extra functions but they are minor and just me being fussy. I give it 5* :0)

Great app for running and gym

I used to use runkeeper for recording my walks/runs, but didn't have a way of recording heartrate. Bought a wahoo adaptor and was browsing apps that support it and came across ismoothrun
Liked the heart rates zones and audio cues, and I can still export the runs to runkeeper so I figure I have best of both worlds. I'm found a lot of crosstraining at the gym and love being able to track my heartrate while doing it so I can see improvements in my cardio ability. I was impressed with the accelerometer matching the distance I ran on treadmill when doing a 5 km run. This is the app I will be using to help improve my speed before taking part in my first 5 km race.
I've not had any issues with gps when running outside.j

Just works so well

Bought the app to replace RunKeeper as it works with the Polar H7 heart rate sensor and my iPhone 4S.
It all just works brilliantly. I finally get my cycle rides and runs all stored in one place with my HR data. It is easy to use, easy to see different views of your activities, easy to customise, export, backup, looks great and makes it easy to keep track of your activity on one device.
I have been waiting for something like this for years and it makes it easy to know what you've done. Totally recommended if you want to track your HR and any fitness activity.

Great App!

I started my journey by buying this app first before I bought hardware. My first mistake was to buy a Garmin dongle being much cheaper than the Wahoo equivalent. WRONG! Software was very simplistic and ISmoothRun wouldn't pair with it. Eventually after talking to my phone provider, I upgraded to iPhone 4s, knowing that Wahoo had released a bluetooth HRM specifically for the 4s. iPhone 4 has Bluetooth v2, iphone 4s comes with Bluetooth v4: So, forget the dongle: upgrade the phone!
The old iPhone is worth up to £235! I'm about to find out if its true as I've posted my old phone back to Orange phone exchange.
Relief as ISmoothRun pairs seamlessly with the Wahoo HRM through the 4s!
I have now done my first cycle ride and first run with Wahoo HRM. Brilliant software! Highly recommended! As an added bonus the App along with all the other data gives me cadence during running. Now how does it do that?

Best running app

A simple yet excellent application for runners, and not only.
I've been trying most running applications there are in the appstore and iSmoothRun demonstrated to be a reliable and efficient companion.
Gps and accelerometer together ensure you can use the app in any condition; auto pause makes it easy when reaching a stoplight; audio cues provide a feedback of your performances as you're running; working with cadence allows you to increase your speed; the app's connection with social networks ensures uploading your runs to many different sites.
I can now finally concentrate only on my running, thank you!

Feature packed and seriously impressive!

I've been a RunKeeper user for two years, but I started experiencing lots of poor GPS and crashing, so it was time for a change. In just a few weeks, iSmoothRun improved both my training experience and running form. I can concentrate on training, and enjoying my run without worrying about crashing or poor GPS. iSR has rock-solid tracking, and even if it does lose GPS (which so far it hasn’t), it can continue to monitor and estimate your run via cadence. Now I wonder how I ever trained without features like auto-pause, ghost run and cadence. Cadence audio cues have taken my training to another level. It’s something I never used to think a great deal about, but has already improved my efficiency and form, which I know will improve my performance and, most importantly to me, drastically reduce my chances of knee injuries.
As with any new release, iSR is not without it’s glitches. It’s a little slow waking the screen up from battery save/auto-sleep (on an iPhone 3GS), and export to RunKeeper, when RK Live is on, uploads your run with your finish point about one minute early. A workaround is to either re-sync, or leave RK Live switched off for now. Despite those ver.1.6 glitches, iSmoothRun vastly outperforms many other apps in connectivity, flexibility, features and reliability. It’s clearly developed by people who are passionate about running, sport and fitness. Thank you iSR developers, you running geeks are awesome! ^^
