Description

Strava makes fitness tracking social. We house your entire active journey in one spot – and you get to share it with friends. Here’s how:
• Record everything – runs, rides, hikes, yoga and over 30 other sport types. Think of Strava as the home of your movement.
• Discover anywhere – our Routes tool uses de-identified Strava data to intelligently recommend popular routes based on your preferences. You can also build your own.
• Build a support network – Strava’s about celebrating movement. Here you’ll find your community and cheer each other on.
• Train smarter – get data insights to understand your progress and see how you improve. Your Training Log is the record of all your workouts.
• Move safer – share your real-time location with loved ones while outdoors for an extra layer of safety.
• Sync your favourite apps and devices – Strava is compatible with thousands of them (Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin – you name it).
• Join and create challenges – join millions in monthly challenges to chase new goals, collect digital badges and stay accountable.
• Embrace the unfiltered – your feed on Strava is filled with real efforts from real people. That’s how we motivate each other.
• Whether you’re a world-class athlete or a total beginner, you belong here. Just record and go.
Strava includes both a free version and a subscription version with premium features.
Strava uses HealthKit to export your Strava activities into the Health app and to read heart rate and biometric data.
You can subscribe and pay on the App Store, using your Apple ID. Payment will be charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Your subscription will automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. Subscriptions may be managed by the user and auto-renew may be turned off after purchase by going to the ‘Manage Subscription’ page in settings. Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to that publication, where applicable. The subscription will renew at the same cost.

Great app for tracking & monitoring your rides. just a shame when it changed & you had to pay to see the rankings board as it was always good seeing the mates you beat or who had beaten you!

Refuses to Sync

Since recent update I’ve been unable to sync any of the runs from my Apple Watch to Strava. No matter what I try, it just tells me to make sure my watch is connected to the network. All my others apps (Spotify, phone, text, WhatsApp, Facebook etc) work fine. Very disappointing.

Syncing Issues

Good app, great to track/manage progress over periods of time.
Only issue I’ve found is syncing runs from my Apple Watch, as sometimes it just doesn’t connect. Tried all sorts of methods from updating the watch/ my phone, deleting the app etc but It just won’t work. Contacted support too but haven’t heard back yet and it is v frustrating lol

Doesn’t work with Apple watch so we’ll

Many functionalities the Nike Training App has on the Apple watch are missing
1. Walking Pace stats
2. KM/Mile milestones
3. Ability to change music tracks etc from Strava app, have to switch to Spotify or Tidal… they aren’t integrated
4. Doesn’t sync with phone when I’m record… record on phone or watch both don’t work in unison… can create duplications.

Poor progress

Everyone I speak to has the same opinion, they don’t like the fact the feed is going down the same path as Facebook. I’m removing more groups just so they don’t pop up. Showing less of my data from previous activities, even though your existence is because of everyone’s data is poor. Especially when you want to charge for users to see it. Luckily Garmin let’s me look at previous information. Happy to pay training peaks for their information. I’m using strava less often these days due to the way it now is. You’d be better to put advertisements on similar to you tube then restrict how people use the platform with all the added costs. We all feel cheated out of our data.

Brilliant programme BUT….

Been asked to give feedback so here goes. Basically the same as below 👇🏻
“Ok, the reason for 3* is simple. Fantastic programme ✅ sadly all what you used to get free now paid for 👎🏻 and IF you do decide to subscribe for what you got free initially it’s a very expensive amount to pay! There’s a flipping cost of living crisis going on so a lot cannot afford it. 👎🏻 I’ve just been offered a 3 moth free trial - brilliant BUT it would not allow me without credit card details input. 👎🏻I had actually in past been allowed one and told ‘before your trial runs out we will inform you so can can cancel before we ask for CC details. I can’t even do that anymore. Like I said fantastic programme but sadly can’t get my free 3 month trial and but they seemed to forget there’s also a cost of living crisis currently. Hopefully they go back to the original set up. Hope they take note. Sad 😞
So will the developer either change back to offer trials without inserting CC or at least reply back to this?

Don’t rely on it

Not for the serious athlete. Accuracy I’ve found so far is somewhere between 80 to 85% at best. It’s frustrating to see the variance after so much effort and preparation. Consistently average, unjustifiably expensive

I use Strava almost daily, yet the most recent price hike means I’ve let Strava Premium lapse and opted for HealthFit for far more comprehensive statistical analysis at a fraction of the cost. The user base is the main reason I stay put otherwise.
If Strava demonstrated consistent improvement and useful features then the price would be more reasonable, but it’s not changed much in the last 4 or 5 years that I’ve used it, and it still dazzles late evening because it’s the only app I have left without a dark mode, 4 years after iOS 13 was released with native support.

Poor - massive rate increase and no new features

I generally pay for software to encourage developers, but in Strava’s case I’ve seen minimal improvements in 3 years.
Particularly frustrating is that I use an iPad and there’s no iPad app. But if I use the web version I can’t view active challenges. So the only choice is to run the iPhone app on the iPad. That is typical of Strava recently.

Mediocre but no real alternative

This is an odd one - it’s the market leading social for running and cycling and it’s fine for keeping tracks of your activities and those of your friends, and for seeing how you’ve performed on segments but beyond that - it’s a bit meh.
At some point in the past we subscribed to premium because we have power meters and felt it would be helpful. Since that they’ve had not 1 but 2 price change fiascos. This most recent price hike came with a splash screen saying the price was increased but with no explanation of why or what benefits it would offer. And look, it’s only gone up from £6.99 to £8.99 but over a year that’s £24 (£48 for both of us) better in my bank account than theirs.
I don’t mind paying for features but most of what I use is free.
The only thing I used that was paid for was the fitness vs form vs freshness graph - and I’m not convinced with the Strava version of it. Certainly Golden Cheetah (a FREE download for Mac) seems to offer a lot more meaningful data than Strava.
Aside from that, finding segments is a chew on, the maps aren’t particularly user friendly, auth is a mess, it’s CONTINUOUSLY asking me to set up Strava on my Apple Watch - SAYING NO ONCE SHOULD BE ENOUGH - and in general it’s just a mediocre experience.
Cancelled our premium memberships and will continue to use the basic free stuff unless they charge for that in the future in which case I’ll cancel.

Great app for fitness and comminity

I am A fairly active club runner and I subscribe to the app so I am reviewing it from that perspective.
From a training and fitness point of view, it ticks every box. It is really easy to use, syncs to my Garnin connect very easily, is accurate has reply good detailed maps that I can track my routes with, both new and regular ones.
Really enjoy being able to track my progress and compete against myself. The metrics are very detailed. I also enjoy the segments you can go for and this is a feature I really like.
Using the app as a tracker in my phone also works well when I haven’t had my Garmin watch available. GPS is accurate and quick to find your spot. Haven’t used the safety features yet but I think this is a really good and important part of the package.
From a social point of view I also really like the fact that you can scroll through your friends activities and give encouragement and receive it yourself. It’s a really good, positive and supportive community and I have met people through running the same route and races who have become friends.
The route builder feature is very good and has helped me break the mould a bit and discover some routes in new places.
The recent addition of the recover app is a nice touch and adds value to the subscription for me.
Overall, I would recommend Strava to anyone, paid or free.

Great app but could be improved.

Suggestion 1. Saving an activity used to be a 3-tap process. Finish > Commute (checkbox) > Save activity. Now when I open the app from the blue clock indicator, the workout is being recorded in the background so it has now become a 6-tap process, which is very irritating to have to do twice a day. Record > Finish > Type of ride (dropdown) > Commute (checkbox) > Close dropdown menu > Save activity. It would be good to open the app to see the workout being recorded and in once tap ‘Finish and save commute’. Suggestion 2. It’s fantastic that I can start a workout by saying, “Hey Siri, start cycling” but it would be even better if I could say “Hey Siri, [pause/finish] cycling”. Ideally, I could set ‘commute’ as the default type of ride as this is what I use twice per day and the activity saves itself automatically without having to reach for my phone. Other users may choose another type of workout.

Wish the app had a kudos to all option for those I follow

I love the app and use it everyday as a premium member for all my sporting activities walking, cycling, kayaking etc but get really frustrated with the time it takes to scroll down through all the people I follow and give kudos for their activities. I think the fact they get off the sofa and record their effort deserves the little thumbs up of kudos and encouragement to do more. I find it frustrating to have to scroll down and individually give kudos rather than have the option of “give kudos to all” other that that I love the app and love all the other fantastic features. Thanks Strava

Not tracking/showing full distance

Before these problems I would rate this app 5 stars. However, as of recently I have been experiencing problems with the tracking of my run in regards to route and distance. As an avid runner it is very disappointing to be trying to constantly beat my personal bests and to see that it has stopped recording at 4-5 miles despite my route being 11. As it is the same route before the app started experiencing issues I know what the distance should be so I know how much it is falling short and not recording. It is disheartening to know that I’ve done 11+ miles but my record states less. There was an update a couple of days ago that says it has ironed out some bugs however clearly not all of them. It would be much appreciated if this could be looked into further and rectified as soon as possible.

Good. Could be better

It’s fairly intuitive to use, but some things could still be better. Could be me. If you import a ride it’s not very clear how to preview it - whenever I try to do this Strava starts recording which is not what I want.
If you ride two bikes, say one road and one folding, why not be able to toggle between bike 1 and bike 2 on the same screen where you start recording, rather than having to select at the finish? Or have the intelligence to auto select the bike based on distance and then I can amend after?
Also the Beacon text steps mean I often don’t record a ride which is annoying. How about as a default start recording as soon asBeacon text is sent so there isn’t a separate step and chance to miss recording? Often I think I’ve started a recording but I haven’t and that’s annoying.

Strava - My experience so far

I have been using Strava for about 4 years now and subscribed to Strava Summit about a year ago. I record every activity I do (mostly mtb) on it which uploads easily from my Garmin. It’s great that people can see what you’ve been up to and can give you encouragement. I also love seeing the statistics and seeing the kilometres build up over time. It processes my heart rate data and gives me fitness and freshness which is a great guide as to how hard I am training.
The segment feature is awesome, it’s so exciting to upload an activity and see if you beat your PR or one of your friends.
I love Strava. I highly recommend it to anyone who does any form of exercise, it may even inspire you to do more!

Another update, yet more features removed

I’ve used Strava for 6 years as an on and off runner. It was good for motivation, insight and sharing what I was up to with a few close friends. The segments were great for comparing with my past efforts, and seeing real improvement. However almost all of the valuable features have now been removed for free users, which is a slap round the face after 6 years of use. Additionally, the subscription is so aggressively marketed within the free app that it’s borderline unusable. I cannot financially justify the price of Premium... so may as well find another functional app. I understand companies need to make money, but compared to its past functionality this feels like a cash grab, and doesn’t motivate me to stay. Really frustrating. At the very least you could introduce tiers of Prenium so that the non serious runners among us can still use the features we’ve been happily using for *years*, rather than fleecing us for all we’ve got.

Privacy Nightmare by default

By default, this app is a privacy nightmare. If you subscribe or use the free version your profile, profile picture, exercise start/finish locations are visible to all. If you do a zwift virtual ride with a few hundred strangers then the strava group function adds you to this group and, by default, your profile, ride and other activities are visible to those complete strangers/bots.
You have to actively turn everything off - except you can’t really turn most of this anti-privacy functionality off if you want to appear in leader boards and see how you times fare against people running/riding similar routes! Leader boards are one of the few reasons to pay for strava, as other apps or computer apps provide the functionality of logging and analysing your rides free AND make privacy the default setting.
Strava is basically difficult to make private, and actively promotes non-privacy. It also hasn’t isn’t well developed software since being bought by a venture capital group.
If you don’t care much about your privacy, by all means pay for this, but if you want the free version then other apps provide the same functionality with far better privacy toggles and don’t show your home address on a map to strangers by default. Sick of this app. Doesn’t record consistently

Better off using Google maps. There’s nothing worse than pacing a run for a distance only to hit your mark to find out it’s not recording properly so you have to keep going. It’s not just a little bit out it’s out 2k on a 5k run. Central to this app is being able to record distance, time and speed so you can compete against yourself and others for motivation (it’s the only thing that gets/keeps me running) and it fails on that more often than not. I’ve tried different routes in case I’m running through dead [signal] zones but not knowing if it’s going to work or not means you can’t pace yourself properly. You can submit the problem but they don’t reply. You’re better off plotting a route on Google maps as I use that fine every single day and it also gives you audio prompts for directions so you can discover new routes without having to check the map every 5 mins.

One of the best, with some tweaks could be better

Strava is one of the best training apps out there. The subscription version is definitely worth the money to see the detailed training analysis. It’s easy to monitor progress and stay on target with your training. If only they’d enhance some of the social media functions - like being able to “like” someone’s comments or have a private messaging function, it would allow users to have even more of a sense of community. The order of the feed seems a bit random too. Also being able to create and edit your segments on the app rather than on the web version would be great. Keep up the good work Strava!

The only app you’ll ever need for tracking exercise!

Strava is the perfect platform both for tracking exercise and training, but also connecting with other people in a way that just isn’t really possible with other social platforms.
I love that my Garmin interfaces with it and that Strava can turn all of that data into such helpful and understandable information. Definitely found this has helped me become smarter with my training, and that I’m able to take part in challenges month in month our means that even with actual events not being possible at the moment, I’m still able to push myself and feel a sense of achievement with my exercise.
I also found it a far more meaningful way of connecting with people than platforms like facebook. To have a purpose of using it takes away the nonsense aspect and I’ve actually found old school friends and colleagues I wouldn’t averagely have spoken to become closer for it.
Great app that’s nailed everything its set out to do, would highly recommend to anyone from couch to 5ker to seasoned athlete and anyone in between. Keep up the good work Strava.

Phone app ok, watch app and support a disaster

Hard to comment too much on phone app specifications - does what it is supposed to do. Similar to competition applications. My problem is with Apple Watch app which seems to not have been tested enough. When working out with watch only and no access to phone straight after workout to sync your workout, it becomes a nightmare. Over last two weeks I had two cases when I did not had my phone at hand after finishing workout- in both cases syncing is proving impossible. The first one it eventually synced by itself after 9 days, second case I am still waiting.
Support provided by Strava is laughable - consist of some type of search engine trying to search for your problem within a database of FAQ and some web articles - maybe putting a thinking human into support would yield better results.

WORST. UPDATE. EVER.

Remember how you used to go into a segment and you could see all your positions in each category on one screen (overall, this year, following, age, weight etc.) ? Oh no. Not now. You have to scroll to the bottom of the screen and press a stupid great button. Then you see the overall leader board. Only you still don’t know your position. To get that you have to scroll down to the bottom. Now for your position this Year. At the top, slide a sideways menu across till you see the button you want. Press it. List appears, but no position. You have to scroll to the bottom for that. Followers? Slide the buttons, select, scroll to the bottom. And you have to do this for each ranking on each segment? Probably the worst piece of software user interface design I’ve seen for a long time. And there’s some real stinkers out there. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS UPDATE. Come on Strava, you took positions away from us unless we signed up for Premium or whatever you’re calling it this week, but now you’ve had our money, you’ve taken it away again by making it virtually inaccessible.

Great for tracking all your exercise & seeing local popular routes

I love Strava, it keeps all my runs in one place, gives me my weekly mileage and I use it as social media! I can connect with people I see at parkrun and my running club, helps me remember their names! I’ve also learnt a lot of new running routes by seeing where my clubmates are running!
Loses a star as I wish you could search in Strava. I have years of running races logged, but if I want to see what I did or remember the route I can’t just search for the name of my recorded run, I have to remember when it was & scroll back through my calendar. Not a game changer but irritating.
I love stats, so being able to record laps at track nights & see improvement is invaluable as a trading tool. I think I miss a lot of functions by not having a desktop & only using it on my phone or iPad though.

Has promise and love the features but at a cost

Made the full time change to Strava from MapMyRun in March this year. Absolutely loved all the features and I was always intrigued by the full subscription features. However lots of the features were removed for free users in April/May which I felt may have been the company exploiting the boom of users due to COVID.
The app is very good but the hype surrounding it has died down and now I’m seeing lots of holes. The recent updates have only been surface-deep and very pointless to the interface. Why have the weekly mileage markers been removed from the profile and moved to training? It is now really convoluted to compare week training patterns. I also got very disappointed that Beacon as a feature wasn’t available to non-subscription users. It would be a good act of faith from the organisers to at least make that available for safety sake.
Really nice little app but it’s starting to show complacency on the market due to its dominance. Bit disappointing in the last few weeks.

Good App but disappointing support

I have been using the free version for a few months now to try it out following recommendations from friends. This was with a view to moving to the paid version but unlikely to do that with current service.
Find it strange than cannot have swimming activity on Apple Watch but it is on the phone - can’t swim with a phone! Imagine common complaint and find it strange not able to change activity selection on the watch - I have no real need for Nordic Skiing!
Messaged support back in May and still to have an answer, had a few ‘holding’ emails but no body answering my enquiry.
Also just recently hasn’t recognised improved 10k run times despite splits showing fastest time for the distance. My performances during lockdown improved Strava’s hasn’t!
I don’t know whether the free version just doesn’t perform as well but I am not going to subscribe to something I don’t have confidence in, which I currently don’t. Shame.

Needs more

I’m happy with the approach strava has taken to reward its paying users with a better service and features as opposed to adverts popping up on the feeds. I’ve always been happy to pay for the premium when considering how much I use the app.
The features are already getting better, I appreciate the fitness and freshness on the app, as well as weekly intensities and access to the training log. Maybe interstate the power curve next and allow this analysis for individual rides even?
I’d like to see a future planning mechanism built in the App for rides coming up, like a training planner. This could link to other 3rd parties like Peaks or TR, but this also allow the user to manually put in plans so not rely on 3rd parties

No good for following map

This app is DANGEROUS when using for map following while cycling - which is one of the features it claims to have. I don’t normally write reviews but was so shocked I felt I had to. You can set a route right enough (after I had to look on google maps simultaneously to tell whether the roads were small lanes or dual carriageways). Once I had the route set I was excited to set off. Initially the app kept letting my phone lock but I figured out how to stop that from within the app. The thing that makes this app dangerous- it does not follow your location and re-centre the screen or give step by step directions it is just a line on a map with your location - you have to constantly move the map to find where you are. Trying to do this while cycling along this is truly DANGEROUS and should not be allowed to be marketed as such. I’m sure this app is good for recording activity if you know where you’re going but as a route following app it is truly awful. Subscription cancelled same day.

When a company becomes greedy

Strava has turned on its loyal fan base and ruined the app. Here are the issues with strava:
1. Aggressive pushing for subscription. App is literally trying its hardest to force you to subscribe.
2. Challenges are now more forced sales tactic trying to get you to buy 3rd party items. “Oh look you achieved this goal and now to activate the reward you are diverted to another screen trying to sell expensive sports related items”
3. Strava was a way to motivate and encourage friends and peers. Now segment stats are hidden for paid subscriptions only.
4. Maps don’t even orientate to direction if travel. Lazy DevOps.
5. User Interface is all geared up to frustrate and get money from you. Oh so many places to accidentally hit the instant subscription button and then near nightmare to prevent money going out.
6. What are the actually benefits to actually subscription? My Fitbit gives my all the stats I need for free. Strava is just a tool for recording my routes and distances.
I bet some Product Owner or CTO thought be good idea to play on the emotive aspect that so many people have years worth of personal data on routes, exercise and are therefore too entrenched to leave strava for an other app. Pure greed and laziness.
Recommendations -
Offer something unique and worth while and I will happily subscribe but I won’t for a substandard product that is not aligned to the user.

It was better, and the user community isn’t happy.

The app is good, has fairly accurate route recording, and where some people have disliked it, the ‘moving time’ feature is actually helpful when contending with cycling stops, such as traffic lights. However, recent changes to the free app have included removing helpful features, such as route segment comparison to other riders, while increasing the advertising volume and interference (including full screen blocking premium subscription adverts). This has made my rating drop from what would have been a 5star free app with excellent premium features for those that wanted them, to a three star basic route tracker that is now getting annoying to navigate. I don't know how much the free user data contributed to strava’s information database, but now i am almost reluctant to use the app, because you get almost nothing as a free user. There are other apps that do the basic functions better, it was the community and competition within Strava that made it more.

Wasn’t the best before, but now the beat parts aren’t free

Strava used to be brilliant. I never wanted a lot, But the features it offered as a basic package were ok.
Sure it’s online route planner was janky, you couldn’t plan a route on your phone, and it was a nightmare if you wanted to find routes of others, and following routes on the app was even worse! But I got over that because I liked the fun nature of it, I’m not competitive but it was fun seeing where I compared on segments compared to others, and seeing how much faster I did my run that day. But now that’s all gone too, unless you pay £48 a year!
This app is editors choice. To quote the review which got this app it’s award:
‘Friendly competition with likeminded people’
That was the case until they removed it from the free app
‘see your rank in your favourite segment’ - you now can’t do that too
You can’t even see how far you’ve ridden or ran in a month. I was doing a charity fundraiser to fun 100k in May and the day I broke the 100k mark was when they made you pay to see your monthly progress. So my fundraiser had no grand ‘we did it’
What’s worse is it’s still a bad app to follow routes, find routes or plan routes
Stick with komoot if you want a decent cycle mapping app, it’s free. Otherwise feel free to pay £48 a year (usually £82 but it’s on offer!!!) if you want to rank your time against your mates on an app that’s had that feature free for almost a decade

Subscription only?

I’ve used Strava for a long time and I think it’s a great way of seeing/tracking your progress over a particular route that most apps can’t compete with. So I’m surprised now that I have to pay to see how I’m comparing in segments and see my efforts. This is definitely a wrong turn for Strava to take and I’m definitely put off by the fact I now have to pay in order to see some of the most basic items I would expect to see of any free fitness app (heart rate zones being one of them which granted has been pay only for a while).
The whole point of this app was to connect people and to make it fun to compete with your mates on certain segments. But to make everyone pay for that now detracts what used to make this app great. I no longer see the point in using this when Garmin connect tells me the same data now if not more.

Motivating, detailed stats and worth every penny

Although there are many complaints about the new pay wall, Strava is a fully featured app and social network which offers far more than any other app in this category. I use Strava most days and the insights it gives are so helpful. This is more of an athlete social network than a simple activity and fitness tracker. The number of clubs, and challenges is incredible. Most features are now paid for, but the skeleton app remains free. However, for the price of a cheap coffee per month I don’t see what the fuss is about. How else can this small team of developers continue their work without selling out to bigger rivals? Great work Strava!

Killed by greed

I’m not an athlete. I’ve used Strava to log walks and bike rides and also upload my other workouts via a third party app.
It’s a great way of engaging with others, tracking progress and offering encouragement to others. I don’t need a multitude of tools or features as my needs are pretty simple. Now Strava can’t provide the basic features I use without charging me a fee to access a number of features that aren’t relevant to my needs whilst paying the same price as many users who no doubt enjoy the additional services.
I understand the need to charge something but the pricing is way off. It should be tiered, not one price fits all.
The timing is also suspect given the current pandemic and undoubted upturn in users. Just as an example, I work with young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs and of late we have been able to take these young people on bike rides. Several downloaded Strava to track their progress, compare with others and interact with their peers. This has gone. These are disadvantaged kids wrapped up in the same bundle as elite athletes and expected to pay the same. That isn’t right.
Hopefully Strava see sense and change things back. I used to pay for Strava but didn’t need most of what was included. Now they want to charge me the same price of using even less. Time to look for alternatives I guess.

Free Version Now Limited

I have used Strava since the very early days when there were separate apps for running and cycling and have always found it a great app due to the diverse features it offered. However, the latest update has made it a very limited app unless willing to pay the near £50 or £8 a month subscription. Given a lot of these features only give me data already available in the garmin app, it seems an excessive amount for me just to access segment times, which to me is what Strava really is all about, or basic training information such as comparison to past runs. If like me you’re not wanting to pay quite so much for the subscription, Strava no longer offers anything different from the plethora of run tracking apps. It’s a real shame they couldn’t have found a way to keep some of the unique features free, or at the very least offer two levels of subscription, one offering a similar level to the previous free features, and a more expensive one with all the detailed training tools.

Briliant but some easily fixed issues

So I have been on Strava for a few years. Its brilliant download it! There are however some issues. 2 main ones.
1) Segment policing
2) Monthly subscription price
1) Segments are great but someone local to me has joined strava and is riding on the run profile, he also has 2 accounts so has taken all the KOMs. It takes 30mins to clear his times to attempt a KOM and then you lose it one day latter. I have tried contacting him to fix this. All his PBs are coincidentally 1s above work record pace.
Strava needs to automatically reject stuff thats too fast and ask for additional evidence. Also if someone is flagged lots of times for the wrong activity type, then all their activities should be altered to just "Activity". Thus taking all their KOMs and stopping future cheating unless they provide evidence. They could be given warnings when they have been flagged 5 times and after their first warning if they fix it they won't lose all future activities when flagged say 10 times just the old ones.
2) The second is subscription. I really want to give back to strava but £50 a year is a lot in one go. I would pay monthly but its twice the price. When you consider lots of strava users are students you would expect them to make spreading the cost better value. It should have been pay for 10 months each year and get two free or something like that. Also why not now put adds on free strava.

Used to be Great

This app used to be the best app for tracking everything from runs to bike rides. Unfortunately the latest update to the app just killed it. The changes now require a subscription to access segments and leaderboards. These features have always been the unique reason for using this app over others. It’s fun to track how well you’ve run or rode by comparison to different people. However, is it fun enough to pay for it? No. This will particularly be the case for new users. Who on earth will just be getting into running or cycling and think it’s worth downloading strava rather than other apps given the need to pay a fee to access key features? The inevitable lack of new users and people like myself who are not prepared to pay for the features will mean it will soon loose its edge for those that do pay a fee. They will soon find the app dull because there’s no new competitiveness over segments. Very sad day for an otherwise good app.

Best Running App

I’ve been using Strava since 2014 now and it is definitely the best running app. After much research when I started I realised this was the one. Clear, modern, gives you all the info you need and easy to use. Has the occasional blip with recordings but all the apps do so don’t let that stop you downloading this.
Obviously you can use it with other activities as well.
My one change or idea I’d like to see is the news feed. I think it would be good if you can filter what you actually see. I don’t really want to see my friends walks or cycles for example. Running is all I want to see. Obviously other people may want to see cycling only or walking or anything else. Would just be a way to not have clogged up news feeds should you wish.

Removing features is not progress.

Reading the recent update post about Strava removing direct Bluetooth connectivity has forced me to put my comments here, as they conveniently disabled comments on that update post on their website. So here so I am.
I have NEVER experienced a crashed connecting my Wahoo Bluetooth heart rate and cadence sensor on two generations of iPhones since getting the sensors. I’ve never actually lost a ride or the app didn’t record a ride fully.
Perhaps Strava should actually look into the issue deeper instead of taking the easy route of just entirely removing the feature completely. Maybe leave the Bluetooth connectivity in but show a warning sign that connecting Bluetooth devices could cause the app to crash for some users? Those users can use something else instead if they experience those crashes.
Cutting out a feature and recommending ANOTHER device as one of the alternatives, the cheapest being £250!! and then offering a measly 15% off is not a good deal. Using a SECOND app to do a job Strava could do in the first place is backwards, if you could do it all in one app why wouldn’t you?!
What are you going to cut out next? Custom routes? Here’s me hoping they would add turn by turn navigation but now I’m genuinely doubtful.
I’m contemplating if I should keep my Summit subscription going or not. I’ll have to do a few test rides using a second app to record my heart rate and cadence to see how well it all syncs up.
Bad move Strava 🙄

Works well for me but room for bug fixing.

I’m not sure / can’t prove how accurate this app is but is seems consistent and this helps me to run (jog!) further. I really like the lock screen widget which shows my distance for the week - it’s so motivational. Is there any way of extending the capability here so to avoid opening the app to start/stop/save a workout? One big improvement for me would be a voiceover call for distance, like an announcement each mile/kilometre.
After a long (for me) run last night I pressed ‘save activity’ and a message popped up about network coverage. When back in the app the activity was lost and I was not able to recover it. Please fix this ‘no internet connection’ bug. It’s really painful to see your efforts disappear like that and having no way of recording them. My lock screen counter will sit at zero now for the rest of the week.

Love this App and being on Strava

I’ve tried 2 other running / fitness Apps and Strava is the one that has connected me with like minded people. I have an old Garmin fitness watch so I use the Garmin App to sync my exercise and it then syncs with Strava.
I find the Strava interface easier to see the information I’m interested in quicker than other Apps. So for example I shall check my Parkrun results and achievement on Strava first!!
I don’t subscribe to all the Strava Summit add-ons as I find the graphs a bit to small to be useful on an iPhone and I’m just interested in my speed, pace and the following others .
Runkeeper tells me whether I’ve just run my 8th fastest 5K or 1st etc and I like this feature which you don’t get easily from Strava - you sort of have to work it out for yourself. I find that aspect quick fun and motivating because I love to compete against myself. So Strava - can to do this do this for me??? 🙏🙏🙏
The leaderboards within the clubs on Strava are useless for me. There are runners who clearly are nearly professionals who love to be at the top of all leaderboards so they join every club. I joined the slow runners club and I still can’t get anywhere near the top. Oh well if you need to beat everyone including OAPs like me then there’s nothing I can do to improve sportsmanship

Loved this app, until I realised it’s huge flaw...

Downloaded this app about a year ago, was in love with it. Found it difficult to access personal bests & getting around the app without being advertised for the paid version started to become quite troublesome.
After a year of use, I realised that all my running times/paces’ were all hugely inaccurate and misleading. Strava actually records your ‘moving time’ (time spent moving, so you can rest for 3 minutes, and it will disregard it) - instead of the *actual* duration of your run. I’ve check in dozens of forums and their customers are slowly realising this. The app has been this way for 3 years, and it’s clear the developers have no intention of actually recording how long you run for, only how long you’re moving for.
As a runner, this is genuinely the most pointless/annoying feature I’ve ever come across, and the fact they haven’t fixed this is enough to switch over to a running app that actually records your time, without inventing a pointless metric such as ‘moving time’. It’s like racing a Marathon & only taking into accounts the best bits. Crazy stuff.

GPS issues it should be 5

Normally I would rate this app as 5 stars, unfortunately for the last 10 runs or so the GPS has been terrible, never had an issue before. now it’s so frustrating when I complete my run and there has been no valid GPS. Now of course I have completed reinstalls I have disconnected /reconnected GPS and Wi-Fi but still no joy. I have had to resort to trying to find another app that will work. Very disappointed that I can no longer get Strava to work on my phone. I love this app and it has helped me to achieve and reach goals I have wanted to achieve. One if not the best fitness apps out there, it’s going to be very difficult to find another app. Until I can buy a GPS watch that I can connect to my account for now I have to find an alternative method of tracking my runs. Please don’t let this discourage you from downloading it truly is an amazing app.

Much better on the Apple Watch 4, but needs improvement...

I had this on my old Apple Watch 2 and like others have experienced it was shockingly slow, to the point I physically couldn’t use it. I now have the Series 4 and the app runs like a dream. I have no issues with using it and the accuracy of the data except for one thing, which stopped me giving it 5 stars.
EVERY other run app I have tried including the in built Apple workout app allows you to pause the workout but pressing both physical buttons at the same time. Strava makes you swipe to the right then hit pause then repeat the process to unpause. This is terribly inefficient and means I sometimes press and don’t quite hit the tiny pause button and this then impacts my workout times. This is a MUST and I’m surprised it’s never been added as a feature.

What has happened to Strava?

I have been using Strava for a long time, however renewed my annual subscription last weekend and it had not worked since. Any other product that one paid £48 for and did not work could be replaced refunded...with Strava this is not possible?! If you use the app within the ‘cooling off’ period of 14 days that is it...whether it works or not! It is not recording my time or distance at all. I have looked at the support (?! Haha) section and tried everything it suggests with no success whatsoever. I have never experienced such issues with any other apps. I am going to cancel the subscription and app on my iPhone, so that I don’t forget and next January they charge me £48 plus. I may open the app occasionally and check again to see if they have managed to sort this nonsense out. Maybe I will revert to Garmin products and forget rubbish inadequate apps. Shame on Strava and shame on Apple for not offering recompense for selling a non-working product.

Almost great

There a number of great things that the app does, but there are a number of areas it lacks compared to the website. I’ve used the Apple Watch app, it worked most of the time, was a bit slow and clunky and lacked the swimming integration. However I traded it in for use with Garmin, which is great.
The phone app is good, however lacks a few functions that are on the website (ie flagging).
My main issues is that it is so difficult to find past trainings, please put a function in to select dates or filter by type as I hate having to scroll through every activity to go back in time.
It is still a great app, segments are genius and challenging friends makes it fun, please fix the past activity searching.

Almost Perfect

I like strava a lot. One thing that I would love to be added to the functionality is the ability to be able to delete the GPS map/route picture when uploading activity. The GPS map/route picture is great for running and cycling. However I use a Garmin watch to track all activity which includes gym/weights strength sessions. These are automatically pulled from Garmin connect by Strava and annoyingly the GPS map is attached to the activity by default. It adds nothing to the activity recording as it just shows how I moved around the gym using different weights/machines and it looks messy.
If the user were able to choose if this was uploaded by being able to delete it, activity recordings would look much more streamlined. Often I want the only picture accompanying the activity to be the exercises/reps/weights I used/did. Strava will get 5 stars once the user is able to decide if they want the gps activity map/picture uploaded or not. Please add this functionality.

Excellent social aspects, but some EASY improvements missing

The UI and social element are fantastic, especially the premium features for those that are looking for deeper analysis.
BUT, Strava are missing a couple of key features which (for me at least) force me to use RunKeeper as my primary app:
1) Shoes (or bike kit): you CANNOT add miles to them, so if you’ve got a set of shoes that have done 200 miles already, you have to remember they’ve already done 200 miles on top of what Strava says. Users have requested this for years on their forum, but to no avail.
2) Training guides are very generic: With premium, I’d expect to get a ‘tailored’ Training plan with a targeted race time, number of days a week you can train, which day(s) you want to do your long run(s), and a race date so the plan can be more/less intense depending on timescale. This is what Runkeeper already offer with their premium.
That said, the feed, following, clubs and ‘kudos’ aspects are FAR better than the Runkeeper solution, and overall I feel Strava is superior. It’s just a shame it’s not quite a complete package just yet.

Pretty good - a few suggestions to go 5 Stars

I have just started using Strava after getting increasingly frustrated with the Nike Run Club app on the Apple Watch which runs slow and not very responsive. So far, I'm liking the simplicity of the Watch App and how responsive it is in comparison to the Nike one. I also like how you get far more detail about each run and the Segments are fun so you can see how you compare to other runners!
So, what would I like to see improved? 1st, be able to choose what information is displayed and where on the Apple Watch during a run. 2nd, improve the volume of the audio feedback on the watch and allow for different intervals and not be fixed to km splits. A female voice option would also be nice.

A wonderful app and community

I am reviewing this app from a Runner’s perspective...
I have been running for over a year now and using Strava for maybe 9 months or so. It has been a fabulous tool, allowing me to monitor my pacing, time myself and plan/track routes. I used Runkeeper briefly but I much prefer Strava. I also like that you can track usage of your gear and it syncs nicely with my Garmin.
I love that you can share your progress with your friends, making it a supportive community too, it has really motivated me, especially with some friendly competition.
With regards to the actual app itself the only things that could be improved (in my opinion)is allowing for some of the online site features to be accessible within app, such as:
- entering manual workout data.
- creating segments.
- having an accessible personal bests/best efforts page/menu (It’s not very easy to look this up in app and would be handy).
- improved segment search, or a ‘local segments’ facility. I find that some local segments do not appear (but I know they are there), this could also help with route planning if you don’t know an area well.
These are the main reasons I’m not rating it 5stars, but otherwise I think it’s pretty spot on - just a few things that would make it slightly better (in my opinion). Thanks Team Strava 🏆

Love this

I love Strava and have used it for years. Definitely my most favourite app for sports.
Just one little thing I think you need to change, with cycling can you have an option to select what type of bike you use. There are some decent hills by mine, and all women at the top average at the same speed, one hill I was qom at 1.42, behind me females were averaging close to the same time. A female has done it in 35 seconds, so possibly using a bike with a motor to get up the hill, so I’d like to be able to select your bike and if you’re using a motorised one / commuter one, then have different leader charts for those, this will not effect the leader boards of people using a bike without a motor etc. Thanks

Strava.

Love this app. use most days never had much of an issue with it. slow uploading at times but very rarely. use on iphone only. if i would like anything it would probably be a louder voice. maybe a means to add weather conditions and wind direction. and possibly a way to not only see segments but routes on a map. and maybe a means to follow these routes directly from Strava. Prob more but i'll remember them after posting as if anyone ever reads them.
further from above done many moons ago. as i still don’t really have a pc or tablet. and rely on good old iphone. how about access to flyby directly from the app. without having to log on via the internet to find out which person didn’t say hi!!!!

The best but could be improved

I’m a premium subscriber to Strava, MapMyRun and Runkeeper and while Strava is my number 1 of the 3 the lack of real training plans makes the others still worthwhile. This app has zero training plan facility and the version on the website is so basic and generic it’s almost useless.
On the subject of website vs app both feel like they’re developed by two separate teams neither has full functionality and you’ll need to go on both if you want to use your account to it’s full potential.
The breadth and depth of statistics and the ease at navigating your way through these keeps Strava as my main go to activity tracker I just hope the developers keep on improving upon things and get it as perfect as possible.

Sad to see you go! But glad your back ❤️

Alas too many rides not recorded via the Apple Watch. I gave you a chance but sadly today, on what I felt was a smashing ride home after my night shift you decided to do it again (or rather not) log my journey. Deleted!! & goodbye :(
After 2 years I thought I'd give it ago again. I set off the Strava app & the Work Out Apple app, only to find once I'd got home after a belting ride---- Strava app stops as only one app can run at a time. So once again back to the drawing board and not sharing rides with friends.
So I’ve had a word with myself, I’ve decided to have just Strava record my rides. I’ve updated both iPhone @ Apple Watch and low and behold after allowing a few settings to share data. Strava puts its info into “Workout” so all is good in the world. 👍

Strava

I’m liking the app but have one real niggle. At the moment I’m only walking but hope to start running when I’ve lost more weight - I’ve had weight loss surgery - so completely changing my mindset and walking a few miles a day. I’m trialing the premium version. I’ve had to disable the auto stop as it doesn’t restart again so I’m only getting a small part of my walked distance recorded. Earlier today I did a 1.5 mike walk and it only recorded 0.1 - it’s a walk I’ve done before so I know the distance. Then this afternoon I did a 2.6 mile walk and disabled the auto stop and it’s recorded the entire distance. The distance is important this month as I’ve taken a challenge to walk 26.2 this month to raise money. I’m not bothered that I have to walk further to officially clock up my mileage but it might annoy someone else.

Great app

Works well, smooth. Has helped me stick with my new venture if running. 30 runs in now and have got to the stage where it’s actually enjoyable. Having the app tell you how far you’ve gone as your running is really useful and being able to look through and compare your runs keeps you engaged with your personal running journey.
The reason I am writing this review is I have an extra appreciation for the app this morning. I did my longest run so far, 8 miles, but hadn’t charged my phone overnight, to my phone died just at the end before I save the data. Thankfully the app had managed to keep it when I put it on charge and could still save my run.
Will be continuing to use this app and would recommend to any runners new or old to check out

Mostly great!

I’ve been using Strava for a good few years now and I’ve been pretty impressed with it. My only gripe is recording walking. I’ve trained for and taken part in quite a few long distance walks and I would like to monitor my gear ie my walking trainers in the same way that you can when you log a run. I wear different shoes for walking and running but I think it’s equally important to know how much mileage I’ve put on my walking trainers. I could log my walks as runs but that’s a little misleading when I run as well.
I would also like to see the “trending faster” function when I log a walk as I like to know if I’m improving my walking pace over the same route without having to scroll back through my activities to find my old times.
The only other thing I would like to see perhaps is a count down option, so you press start and have a few seconds countdown to lock your phone and stash in your pocket before you set off.
Aside from minor gripes it’s a great app!

Good but can be much better

A great app, but when linked with other devices is somewhat disappointing - ie I sometimes run on a treadmill with a Polar watch that monitors my activity. The watch may not be accurate in the distance covered for obvious reasons.
I can go onto the Polar web site and over ride the distance run to make it accurate - but not on the Strava web site - you simply can’t amend your activity stats in that sense which is where it really lets itself down.
So come on Strava let us amend our activities. You can always exclude amended activity stats from comparisons and / or place an icon on the activity to show it’s been amended so others can see - thus maintaining the integrity of the data.
