Unable to control seats

I have emailed app support with this issue a few months ago and still not fixed so I will try writing a review to see if I get a fix.
When setting a climate schedule or indeed manually when you select the drives seat heating only it will start correctly then after ten seconds it will turn off the heated driver seat and switch to the passenger seat where it will remain. If I manually try to change seats the same happens repeatedly.
I have removed the app, reset the iPhone, installed the app, no change. Running the latest IOS and App.

Trips now harder to read

Since last update it’s very difficult to read trips and tagging business/personal. I use for expenses and was much easier and quicker to know the mileage for each line. I don’t want the total mileage grouped for the whole day.
Also the link to the online manual has been removed hidden. Have to be in the car to use the digital manual now as no option from app and no paper manual.

Great when it’s actually working properly

I had a 2019 XC90 that worked perfectly with the Volvo app. Since buying a new model XC90 in Sep 25 the app has been messed around with by developers making it and the car really ‘buggy’. Right now the app won’t connect to my car, which is very frustrating. Please Volvo, get your developers to settle the reliability and function before making any further changes. Sometimes simplicity beats complexity.

Keeps disconnecting

New 2026 xc40, keeps going offline - checked app updates, all seems fine, all permissions are set, switched car on, still didn’t sync. It’s happening so much now, after just 3 weeks, I’m booking it in with Volvo to get it all checked over as there’s accelerator response delays consistent from day one too. This is my first Volvo, and will be my last.

Bug in latest update

When car is still plugged in following a successful home charge, starting the pre-conditioning in the app to heat cabin, also automatically starts drawing a charge of between 2-5 kWh from the charge point noted three times so far in last week. Presumably same amount as what the pre conditioning is using at the time? Even will draw a charge is above the car cut off % limit it still starts a charge automatically. Indeed overrules all the normal controls of car, charge point & smart charging controls of electric provider collectively (app/car manages to change my charge point from Smart Control to a manual boost all by using pre-conditioning!).

Good app but why does it keep signing me out?

The app looks good and the features work well with my EX40. I have only given it three stars though because it keeps on signing me out. The message used to say you needed to sign back in every six months for security reasons; however, it signs me out at least once a week and usually at the most inconvenient time. Five stars if you can stop it signing me out so frequently!

Great app, but could do more

Hi app devs, this is a great app, but please can I ask for a new development.
I would like to be able to schedule multiple charging times, this will synchronise with at home lower cost energy time frames. Ideally, to be able to setup at least three different time slots, instead of manually changing the scheduled time in the app everyday. Thank you

Best yet

I’ve had an electric car for around 5 years. 3 years with a Lexus, just under 2 years with an electric Astra, both of which had apps. The Lexus app started terribly, but got better along the way. The Vauxhall app started terribly and remained that way, possibly even getting worse.
This Volvo app is so far ahead in all ways from the others. Everything is close to instant - you want to remote-start climate? Done. Want to track charging status? Updated immediately. Digital key through my iPhone and watch was setup with little drama, I just had to disable passive unlock as each time I went into the kitchen, the car unlocked on the driveway.
Note to Volvo developers - any chance you can allow passive locking to remain active with passive unlocking disabled?
Maybe I’m biased based on the woeful car apps I’ve used to this point, but for me it’s well done to Volvo.

Volvo Scam Rip Off

I made my purchase for this App and paid the £37 at the point of sale it stated that certain functions were part of the download. I have tried to cancel and get a refund literally 2 hours after making payment as the main function I bought the App for doesn't work on model of car. At no point prior to purchase it mention limitations or exclusions otherwise I would Not have made my payment.
32 days later after me chasing aftercare and technical team countless times Im still £37 out of pocket and an App that is of no use to me that doesn't Work.

Every Time

It’s not a bad app and it does work most of the time. The issue seems to be whenever there’s an app update or a car system update the app stops working. Is there no testing before the update? You go from having full access and nothing being wrong to the app developers trying to stay relevant and the end result is normally car showing offline and you have to contact support to try and fix something that didn’t need to be changed in the first place.

Great when it works, but can be unreliable

I have a 2017 Volvo V90 and this app is great when it works, very quick to respond and can usually unlock the car or start it within a matter of seconds. However, for the past couple of weeks since the last couple of updates, the app has been consistently logging me out, without fail. I sometimes have to log in 3 or 4 times a day. And that’s even assuming I can log in. Half the time the login page doesn’t work and is completely unresponsive or just doesn’t load.
And why they made the decision to go to email for 2FA over phone is beyond me. I used to have my phone but was forced to move to an email 2FA system with the most recent update, it no longer accepts my phone number as a login and half the time I can’t easily access emails when out and about vs just getting a text.
This on top of having to possibly pay £250 to reset the Volvo on call battery timer makes me question if it’s even worth paying for. Likely moving away from Volvo in the coming months and certainly not going to worry about renewing the app subscription if it’s not sorted.
P.S. I could be crazy but I also could’ve sworn that the windows would also close when locking from the app but they don’t now??

EX30 User, woeful app

I bought my EX30 some 4/5 weeks ago and was told I could generate a digital key via this app. And by other means.
Impossible to do, and the gentleman in the Volvo dealer says they’ve had lots of issues.
This may seem minor but as a result I have to rely either on the master key (not a good idea) or a credit card (which is flimsy and not how electric cars operate nowadays). I can’t unlock or lock remotely. For customer support on this you are sent to WhatsApp support which only works 9-5 and also didn’t help. I was strongly looking at a EX90 but won’t bother.

Wrong side heating...

Hi, I’m really happy to have the seat-heating with remote climate start — I’ve been looking for this option for a year! The only issue is that in the UK it starts heating the passenger seat first, and I can’t heat just the driver’s seat. At the moment I can only pre-heat the passenger side or both seats together.
Degreeska
Version 6.2.0

Old version much better..

The ambient air temperature from the car itself has been removed and this was one of the most useful features in the old app. Particularly when near or close to freezing it was a useful indicator as to whether or not the pre start is necessary to defrost. It shows the forecasted temperature on the map indicating the cars location but this is of little or no use. I get weather forecast information from any number of other apps so I don’t need it here and it would be so much more useful to know the actual temperature at the car. In addition the fuel remaining is no longer visible in the app itself (a % is visible in the widget though). The release notes say the fuel remaining is visible behind the car on the Home Screen but this is not the case on my app. It just shows range in miles but I would rather know the state of the tank. Very annoying when useful app features are removed for no good reason whatsoever and make the app less functional. Clearly developed by someone who doesn’t drive a Volvo and therefore hasn’t used the app.

Great app but lacks essential features

I really enjoy using the app for my EX40, but it’s missing too many important functions. For example, I can turn on the AC, but I can’t set the temperature, fan speed, defrost, or activate the seat heaters remotely. It’s also not possible to manage software updates, check installed apps in the car, or install new ones through the app. Adding these features (and more) would make the app truly fabulous. Come on, Volvo — you can do better!
Edit: Volvo contacted me to consider these suggestions. It’s exciting if they achieve to adapt such features, this review will be 5 stars and beyond of course!

Okay, but could easily be better

I got this app because I was excited to be able to remotely start and pre-heat the cabin in my 2019 V60 D4 Inscription Pro for a daily 6am commute. Disappointed to find that I have to let Volvo decide what is a comfortable temperature for my car, and can’t adjust it myself from the app. This is only allowed with the hybrid models, for no apparent reason. The Inscription Pro is pretty high spec, why can’t I decide on my cabin/seat/steering wheel temp from the app? All I can do is turn on the engine, unlock the car (sort of), flash the lights & honk the horn (both virtually useless features).
I expected more functionality from a premium spec!

Pretty poor app, flawed car

Have had our electric Volvo 8 months. App has been generally poor - a few fixes have been issued which have improved things eg you can now set charge level remotely in the app - although the fact you couldn’t do this originally was ridiculous!!
The range information is rubbish. Simultaneously the cars battery and the google auto car display will show different ranges. The range as you drive varies wildly - you cannot use it to predict how far you can get. The algorithm doesn’t work. In the middle of the journey it says you need to charge to reach a destination that was easily in range with 10% charge remaining at destination when you started. Then you charge eg top up by 25%, but you arrive at the destination with 35% battery left. In other words you could have easily made it with 10% left. It has some sort of over compensated safety measure built in which is in fact really unhelpful. So the range estimation is essentially useless. Well done Volvo.
You cant find the cars location when someone else is driving. Why not if you have enabled that?? And the automatic aircon is not automatic on a £60K car. It doesn’t control
Fan speed. What?? So car mists up when it rains. Also useless. Ride quality is harsh at low speeds - Volvo should have fitted electronic dampers that could have altered settings at low speed.

Used to be better

When I first got the app with my xc90 in 2022 it ran beautifully. No glitches. Gave me detailed data on each journey. Energy consumption/petrol use. Speed, acceleration rate deceleration rate etc. Connected instantly, super quick to start climate function etc. Over the next two years the app has lost functionality, removed the access to detailed journey data and logs out constantly, sometimes takes an age to connect, and often won’t allow me to start my climate function to heat the car. It is just a rubbish app in comparison to the original previous versions. My phone and EE data connection have no issues. It’s the app.

Useful but latest version is frustrating

The app gives you good insight into what's going on with your car but the charging setting in the last update is extremely inconvenient.
The app now defaults to a 90% maximum charge. You can change it to 100% and save..... but the app will revert to 90% so you never get more than that in the car. What's the point of having the long drive setting if it doesn't work?
You can charge to more than 90% but only if you go into the app when you have hit 90% and change to 100% at that time.
Also the Ovo hard sell is extremely annoying. At least have a way to turn the constant ads off please.

Driving journal works intermittently

I previously had an XC40 recharge hybrid and the driving journal worked reliably with no problems. I have recently changed to a full electric EC40. The driving journal no longer records all of my trips; it will often record only the outward journey or the homeward trip and sometimes not record at all. I find this extremely annoying. I notice that others have reported problems with the journal with little or nothing done to address the issue. For a premium manufacturer to be so unresponsive is not acceptable. I just hope that the developers do take note.

You are of no interest to Volvo if you can’t afford the latest phone.

I have used the app regularly for the last year, often using it to check that the car was locked, and sending destinations to the car. Not any longer it seems. I recently received a message saying that the app needed to be updated. However, when I tried to do so, I’m told that it now needs IOS 16, or later. I have an iPhone 7 so no joy. I can’t afford to regularly update my phone just to meet new requirements; I was quite happy with the way the app was working, but I can no longer access the app at all now. It’s a pity Volvo don’t consider the needs of ALL their customers instead of just concentrating on those “tech bros” who can afford the latest operating system on their phones.

Close, Still needs some work…

Nice to see continuing updates for the newer models, but don’t forget your existing base of customers, would be nice for you to bring back features for the diesel/petrol cars, such as preconditioning, that can be scheduled to run the ventilation in the car (without starting the engine), but can no longer be activated via the app on my 2017 V90.
The latest update gives us interesting graphics, great to see my car with the sunroof for example (Wish that was also true on the 360° Camera view as it spoils the Birdseye illusion), but a lot of people are finding the use less intuitive, to enter the Climate section (Fan Symbol) to start the car engine has apparently confused many (Volvo forums) and choosing not to start the car engine but start Climate by hitting Start button is a bit strange. How about a Start Engine & Start Climate button again. Unlock via Face ID isn’t always working in v 5.01 and I’m having to type in the Long Password each time. The link to report issues in App Store just takes you to Volvo Car Support with no option for the app…?

Useable tech

With this app I find it very useful, especially in high heat or winter conditions as I can remotely start the car & get a suitable cabin temp without having to get in the car. Car information is great letting me know if anything is wrong on the app. Access to my car manual from my phone again brilliant even simple thing like what tyre pressure etc. most of all if my hands are full & I don’t lock the car with the keys, I can lock it or unlock it from the app, useful when the kids are way ahead of me.

Slow in updating

I’ve panicked when app reported car not charging, rushed back and found that it was. Update of location and charge condition was from many hours previously. It used to be a lot more responsive. Incorrect charging/battery level is not useful when sitting in a cafe waiting for charging to finish. Lock status seems to update immediately - reporting is just inconsistent.
I’d still like the logs to use the same units as the car - miles not kilometres - at least the range is now shown in miles.
The visual indication of door lock and window open status is clear and attractively presented.
If charge information could be updated in real-time then showing power in, and not just estimated completion time (always optimistic!), would be useful.

Incredibly annoying bait and switch app

I have a V90 T8 and when I bought the car this app was superb. Apart from locking/unlocking, sending a destination to the car and preheating, I found the driving journal to be so useful. In 2021 I could see every journey on the map and scroll along the route looking at speed, charge used etc, at any point in the journey, shown by a selectable graph at the bottom. It was a big factor in choosing this car. In late 2021 the data was removed and all that has been visible has been the start and end points. This is OK, but I feel that I have been conned by being shown something really good, only to have it replaced by a poor substitute. A few weeks ago, the map route reappeared. No data through the journey, but at least a proper record of the route, shown on the map. I was absurdly happy for this small step towards restoring what I paid for. A few days later, however, this was snatched away again and now we oscillate between showing an A and a B as start end end points, with no route information and just no map at all. It’s really poor.
I have been with Volvo as a loyal customer for years and spent a lot of money. Now I just do not think that they care. I was sold something that I wanted and then subjected to this bait and switch con. The brief change to remind me what I could have, if anybody was bothered, was the final straw for me. This just seems indicative of a company that does not value its customers and I will bear this in mind when I change cars.

Latest journal changes are a poor downgrade

Latest revision completely changed the way the Driving Journal works. The prior version allowed you to inspect each trips route on a map and see how the car performed along the route. That has now gone completely and you just have a log of the start and end times, mileage and battery/fuel use. The export to excel has also been mucked about with. The dates are now exported as text instead of date format, trip duration is shown in text in minutes instead of time in 00:00:00 format. While those two are a pain they are easily fixable. The REAL screw up in the export change is that fuel usage is now exported in litres instead of imperial gallons even though the export file is still marked that the value is gallons…. Volvo, please take the effort to check your changes work before submitting the updates to the App Store, in this case you clearly didn’t.

Missing key features, some appear to have been taken away

I have recently upgraded my Volvo xc90 to a hybrid version. I have used the app for a long time but in the process of this change I have noticed that:
- it no longer tells me the mileage in the app. Why? It was so helpful and yet it’s now gone.
- your website talks a lot about the ability to add widgets but this app does not include any widgets or 3D Touch actions. Why isn’t there a widget that can show me my current charge level or time until charged? And maybe one for locking/unlocking - or even better just allow me to do it with my phone as I know that functionality is available on this device (15 pro)/ios17
- trip logging is basically impossible now since the software change.

Needs work!

There are several issues with this app which I have reported in the past only to be thanked very politely and then promptly ignored. I list the two most irritating ones below:
1) When my XC90 recharge is being charged, the app gives an estimated time for completing the charge which just keeps moving into the future in real time. It is only when charging is complete that it states 100% charged.
2) The piechart showing the percentage of miles done on battery versus petrol in the previous 7 days contains no information. It used to work, but no more. I get average mpg to date, and there’s a screen showing my journeys and their usage of battery and fuel, but the app will not fill in the piechart showing % electricity and fuel. Please when updating this app check these features out!

Driving Journal stopped working

After previous update the driving journal stopped working on my XC60. -it stopped logging journeys. Spoke to support who said they were aware of problem and it should be fixed soon. The latest software update on the car appears to have fixed problem but now the driving journal on the app shows ‘Error’ please fix UPDATE After latest version update you have fixed the journal problem BUT created a new problem. The app no longer shows the remaining charge or if the car is being charged. Get some new developers. Don’t you test the app before releasing it? This is becoming a joke app fix one problem and create another. Thus is very poor show from a supposedly premium car brand.
2days later it has started to work again. Very unreliable app.

This is not progress

I take delivery of my new Google equipped car expecting great things. I’ve had numerous Sensus based Volvos with the OnCall App, and generally they have been an excellent pairing. I would give the old set up 5 stars.
My brand new car feels like the Google system is a big backwards step, a less configurable and informative driver information system linked to an app, that, at time of writing, has much less available functionality than the Sensus version, and those few functions that remain don’t work. I can’t link the app to my diary, I can’t send destination to the car or plan routes in advance, can’t get directions (what is the map screen in the app for?) and the driving journal function which is so important to me shows Error.
This is pretty poor stuff, if the car’s lights didn’t work or there was an electrical issue in the car I would have refused delivery. The app and the connected services package are not working properly but are effectively bought and paid for.
I didn’t buy a half developed car, why should this be acceptable because it is an app? Don’t issue it if it doesn’t work.
New car experience seriously compromised.

Uninstalled and Cancelled Subscription

About half of the app functions work okay, but the driving journal and charge locations are wrong. Specifically, the pin locations on the Volvo map are correct but the reported street address is incorrect- typically about 1/2 mile in error. As an example, the app reports my street address, where the car is charged and where journeys start/finish as a 5 minute walk away. Other gripes are that the developers occasionally change the UI but without improving the quality of the background data. As an example, the battery range is typically only 2/3 of what is reported and doesn’t update with previous driving style/consumption (which the fuel gauge does). However, the reason for the 1 star is that every time I plug my car in at home, the app creates a charge location and creates a scheduled charge WHICH I CAN’T OVERRIDE! I can delete it, but 20 minutes later the app creates another one. I deselect the scheduled charge, but the app recreates it. EDIT 1. Following contact with support, they deleted my account and all the settings which reset the app. However, now I cannot create a scheduled charge location as the app does not remember when I charge my car at home. EDIT 2. The charge location is now correct. However the app now automatically creates a scheduled charge commencing 12 hours after I’ve plugged in - after I’m due to go back to work. If I delete it, it just gets recreated. Aargh! EDIT 3: I am removing the app and cancelling my on call subscription because the app prevents me from charging my car when I want.

App has stopped logging journeys

The VOC app has been fine since first obtained (2015).
Since April this year it’s doing weird things.
1. No longer record’s journeys
2. When the car is in the garage locked , it says “car is in use” , so can’t use any features.
3. No longer receiving notifications.
It did come alive this week for 10 minutes when I moved the car 30ft into from the front of the building to my garage.
I knew this as I got the car not locked notification ( not had that for months), so I checked the journey tab and it showed a 10hr journey of which I have never done, it seemed to take the start of the journey in the morning and then when the car was started 10 hours later, it thought that was the end time, everything in between didn’t exist as my journey to work is 20mins usually.
App is updated, tried deleting and reinstalling, subscription is good until next year.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Buggy

Don’t get me wrong it’s a good and essential app if you need to charge at economy 7 times using a 3 pin plug, but it could be so much better and frankly let’s done the quality that should be associated with the Volvo brand. General things like locking and unlocking work fine but it’s very limited compared to the competition, i.E status of the windows, Bonnet, roof etc. not shown and have no control. Pre conditioning temperature cannot be set from the app etc. now the scheduled programming, the car does charge at the set time reliably, the issue is with the status shown in the app, it often does not update until charging is complete, it gets its self in a right mess if you try and stop and restart whilst charging and the percentage complete is never correct once charging starts until it completes at which point it correctly shows 100%. Come on Volvo it’s could and should be so much better.

App functions disappeared

I’ve recently changed from a 2018 model year XC40 to an early 2023 version. With the previous car the Volvo Cars app was one of the key standout features. Info on the status of the car, planning journeys by sending destinations to the car and notifications about the car being unlocked were all very useful features which became part of our day to day use of the car.
All of these features for the new car have disappeared from the app which is bizarre given the vast improvements to tech on the inside of the vehicle. Absolute basics such as odometer, mileage and fuel level are nowhere to be seen.
Access to the user manual is only possible via a search bar now also, meaning you need to know the technical terms for features in order to study them which is totally counterintuitive. With the previous vehicle you had the option to simply thumb through a digital manual with a contents page.
Failing the user manual, I’ve scoured the internet for forums and support in the hope there was a simple setting I needed to tick somewhere, to no avail.
You expect with all things new that things improve and refine. This is a big disappointment and a huge step backwards.
The app looks great and has huge potential. Hopefully a software update will fix but who can say?

Lacklustre & behind the times

A serious overhaul of this flagging app is required! Even the basics of this app, have fallen below standard! Volvo used to be cutting edge, trail blazing with their technology but this now is some thing that appears to be long gone.
There has been no improvement to the features of VOC for a couple of years! No design and fluidity improvements, it is as said BASIC. The concept and original idea behind this app was superb! However with the motor industry becoming more advanced, the customers needs becoming more technical, other manufacturers out there are storming ahead!
Come on Volvo! Get your fingers out! Hit us with something that is amazing!! Get rid of these ‘developers’ you have!! New talent is out there that can push the boundries! Instead of the fossil you have on your team that are holding you back!!

Unstable and very limited

I have a s90 T8 recharge MY22 and live in the UK. The app does only offer very limited functionalities, nothing to do with what is advertised here…I can see the range in electric mode but not for the petrol, how is this possible in 2023! There is no access to the driving journal of the car (which is anyway very poor). When I try to use the app from my Apple watch, I get the message « « unfortunately, this version of the Volvo Cars app does not support Applewatch … ». So disappointing and unstable, Volvo support answer is that they are working hard to solve the problems and bring new functionalities, well, this is not good enough…especially compared to other brands with similar prices. I put one star only because it seems not possible to put zero.

V60 Cross Country

I’ve just purchased a brand new V60 Cross Country. I’ve set the app up and paired to the car fine, but can’t turn on any notifications as app directs me to iPhone settings to turn on.
When in iPhone settings the Volvo app should be in 2 places. The first being settings- then scroll down to find the app, which it is. The second place should be settings-notifications to find app and turn on notifications to allow them to be turned on in the app, which it is not! Here lye’s the problem.
I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled- still the same, I’ve also tried on my wife’s iPhone, still the same!
On my iPhone 13 Pro Max the Volvo App is not in notifications to allow me to turn on so I can turn them on in the app!
Very frustrating Volvo- £51,000 car with an app that doesn’t work!! First Volvo and could be my last as this is annoying to say the least.
Please advise….

Far too unreliable- other negative reviews are correct

In principle this app should be good. However, it is unreliable when it comes to remotely turning on climate control. I regularly get the message when seeking to turn on climate control “not running [climate control] - stopping”, when there is nothing to stop. Restarting the app does not work. Only way to overcome this message is to go out to the car and turn the car on and off. However this is no good when you need to warm up remotely. Please fix this Volvo.
Another day another error. Now a random message saying the app has been disabled following a vehicle service (which hasn’t happened) and I need to drive at 20. So another icy morning without the warm up function working.

What has gone wrong?

I write this review more in sorrow than in anger. Volvo need to change their app development team. I have used this app for four years on my XC60 and it worked well. I could plan journeys, fill in travel claims, check the car status all from my desk. I have just exchanged my car for a new XC60 only to find that all the functionality of the app has gone! It is no longer worth the memory it takes up on my phone. I trust that Volvo will change the present app destruction team for a team of people who can truly claim to be app developers. Such a pity that a feature one used to boast about has become so worthless. Just hope this is not reflected in the rest of the car’s electronics. I note that before taking my old car off the app all the functionality still works. Very odd that a new car is less well supported than an old one.

Superb app

We have used this app for the past three years & have found it to be excellent. So many times we have needed to lock the car remotely after forgetting to use the key! It is also easy to programme routes and send destination information to the car - especially useful as the car’s own navigation system often fails to identify locations itself. We have also had occasion to use the Volvo Assist service via the app and have got immediate access to help & advice. Highly recommended.

Poor functionality

While this app has some useful features it falls way short for my V90 T6 recharge (2023) compared to that used for my V90 cross country (2017)
Lacks mileage and journey tracking which was so useful for work. I am finding Google maps timeline awkward to use and prefer the old app functionality.
Car status in app is lacking eg mileage, and fuel consumption.
While I can live with the above deficiencies, the lack of a facility to schedule charging is unacceptable especially when night rate is ~half day rate and Volvo specifically state not to use external timer. The lag in the app development is poor. I assume the Google interface gets in the way. For me, at present, it seems the Google integration is a step backwards. I hope this app is fixed before year end as hinted at.
The car is on the whole terrific; I love it, but lack of console and passenger footwell storage is a huge disappointment and internally more noisy than I expected. Security glass seems thinner?

So frustratingly awful

The app is currently telling me that my doors are open. But they are not. The app generally doesn’t work. For the entire winter I could not use the engine and car warm up feature as they were trying to figure out how to overcome the system bug. On top of this, the in car system of the xc40 I have is terrible. It Switches to fm radio every time I stop the engine and restart, which means I have to go in, select favourites and select the correct DAB(might sound minor but imagine doing this 50 times per week). These technical issues have put me off ever owning another Volvo. Which is a shame because the car is lovely. But the frustration with this app and the in car system has put me off for good.
The in car system often turns off, turn full volume, control stop working. It’s just not fit for purpose.

Volvo App no functions

I have had my Volvo XC60 hybrid for 3 months now and with multiple app updates haven’t seen any improvements. The charging information is very hit and miss, when I check it after charging over night it will still give the amount of battery it had the previous night. The time to charge counts up rather than down. I’m unable to schedule my charging between my off peak rates. Which is very annoying when I have a tariff specific for an EV car that only gives off peak rates from 00:30 -04:30 am. I get no charge history or car diagnostics, the only thing I find works is the schedule pre conditioning and the lock or unlocking of the car. I don’t receive any notifications if I have left my car unlocked. The App is very poor for a expensive car. Some of the other brands allow you to schedule the charge, add your energy rates and it works out how much it has cost you to charge. Very important feature when you are trying to work out how much of you energy bill was for charging the car.

Unreliable. “ Could do better”

In such stark contrast to their cars, this doesn’t reflect well on Volvo at all. Some goods features but is so frustrating. Remote access more often than not asks you to login with user name and password, often the day after this has been entered. The app does not refresh after a remote start , so the next time you need this function, itoften still believes the car is still running. Do you have to “stop” the car before you can begin… very disappointing .. C-…

Good app but definitely not perfect

This is a good app and the features add to the overall experience of driving a Volvo. However, there’s a couple of seemingly obvious features missing despite multiple updates. Why can’t you select the “units” anywhere? In the UK we use Miles and for the odometer and it would be useful to have miles showing in the driving journal (or at least be able to switch between km and miles). Also, the remote engine start is great but it would be better to have the windscreen fan, electric rear window and electric seats selectable also (these are currently only operable once you switch on the ignition in the car).

Needs to improve

I find this app very frustrating. The only thing that works ok is notifying you if your car is unlocked however sometimes I get notified about 30 minutes after I’ve left the car meaning anyone can get in and swipe anything. The remote start sometimes works but this morning when I really needed it, it was trying to start the car for ages then said there was a problem with the engine! I started the car manually fine. I’m also confused by what remote start does other than turning the car on. There is no option to switch on the heating or heated windscreen/mirrors and it appears that unless you left the heating on when you last parked the car it just doesn’t work. Come on Volvo we need better.

Nicely designed. Slow to update.

The app looks really good. It reflects the car nicely as an infographic and I like the fact that the car colour is right - it’s a small touch but attention to detail is important. There are also icons for the alarm being active and the car being plugged in and charging (or not).
I am using this app with the XC40 Twin Recharge and the functionality is fairly limited to locking, climate and charging updates.
The updating of the battery charge is slow and inconsistent, it seems to default to showing the charge when first plugged in and then doesn’t update the battery percentage or icon until up to the ‘full’ 90%. Occasionally it hangs when trying to start the climate control. Maybe it would be quicker if the car actually connected to my house wifi but that’s another story!
All in all an app with lots of potential. If they make the app more responsive and reliable this is easily a 4 or 5 star app.

Now works well. Was: Useless with an XC40 recharge

You can sometimes unlock and lock the doors remotely, if you’re lucky. About 5 in 100 times of opening the app you get to see the charging status and current charge, every other time it shows nothing. The option to turn climate controls on and off doesn’t work, either on demand or schedule. I’ve raised this with the support team and apparently it’s a known issue. Luckily I subscribed to the car through care by Volvo so I will be sending it back within my 30 day trial period. The app is such a let down compared with the Tesla app. Update: As of early December the app now works every time and all features work. It must be an early Christmas present! * battery charge status * door lock/unlock * climate start/stop & timer

Terrible

Disappointed with the functionality, way less than the Jaguar one I used previously. Worst thing is that it just doesn’t work. The remote climate worked once, then kept saying there was a fault every time after. Advice online from Volvo was to delete and reinstall the app, which now won’t connect because the car centre console can’t find the keys even when they are sat in top of the dashboard. Dealer won’t help. Unnecessarily complicated to set up, poor functionality when working, inconsistent operation, and then gives up entirely when you try to fix it. It’s out me off buying another Volvo.

Mr Redrup

I just purchased a very expensive new Volvo XC60 Polestar last week. I was told when ordering this vehicle it had a app that would allow me to control functions from my Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max. But from the day I collected this car the app has not worked. My question to the developers is why is this not working and when are you going to fix it. The most irritating aspect of all this. Is no satisfactory response from Volvo customer care or the main dealer, who are simply blaming the developers and then washing there hands of the problem. I have to ask the question why release the app when it’s clearly not working. My verdict on my experience of buying a new Volvo is very poor customer Service and a app that is clearly just a waste of time. 1/10. To keep this in context this is my third time purchasing a new Volvo in the last four years. My wife has renewed her Volvo v40 with VW so is no longer a Volvo customer.

New version just isn’t good enough IMO

I’ve got the old version of this on my phone and the new version of this on the iPad so I can judge went to update the one on my phone. The new version is hopeless. It’s really not very user-friendly. In order to remote start you have to go through several different actions rather than just a quick start as before on the old app. If you want to see whether the car is locked or unlocked at a glance quickly I have to have my glasses on because I can’t see the tiny little lock symbol and work out whether it’s locked or unlocked on the new version; it’s very easy on the old version because it says locked or unlocked.
New Version doesn’t give me the option to put mpg in rather than litres per whatever. In the UK we work in mpg. Please give us that option.
Old version had a fab summary screen:
Map showing where vehicle is located
Parking climate temp
Remote start button
Doors and locks - locked or unlocked
Latest trip summary
Fuel range
Please bring this summary screen back; it’s brilliant and I don’t want to lose it from my phone so not be updating until it return or something as good as that is developed.

Very handy companion peace of mind

When I first tried to configure my car to work with the app it was not very good experience, I called my UK dealer and they arranged a call back to get some one help me. But in the meantime I approached customer care through the app, surprisingly they have configured my car with the app remotely without me going to dealer or speaking with anyone over phone. It was great !! Ever since I installed this app back in June, it always worked… many times it helped me to check whether car is locked or not and remote locking especially when we were on holidays and parked car bit far from the hotel/ sight seeing locations. The driving journal , car status, pre climate are the features I found it to be more useful. I do drive Mercedes with relevant app, in terms of features volvo seems to lack few on paper but on practicality i see no differences. I hope to see more feature and expect the app will continue to work with same level of reliability.

Not great

Having just moved from Audi I am a little disappointed at the functionality of the app. I have just taken delivery of a 2022 V90 recharge which is a fantastic car and I would have hoped the app lived up to the product. The app is nicely designed but lacks some of the basics that other manufacturers are delivering; for example, considering how much the car cost, I would expect to be able to see the location of my vehicle. It seems this functionality is available on other models?!? I have read other reviews and agree that there is lag between the car and the app especially when trying to understand the charging status of the battery. The control of the air con is also a bit hit and miss. Hopefully you can enhance the user experience soon.

Now it’s £35 just to be able to lock it…??

I’ve had the app for free for 7 years over 2 Volvo cars as part of my service plan but now, suddenly it’s chargeable. Ok, that’s not unfair. But £35..!!!!! Per Year!!!! For a fossil-fuel (fossil) private user like me, it’s essentially just to be able to lock & unlock remotely. I can resist sending my destination to the car & will set it in the car. It’s kept in garage so I’ll start it myself to warm up. I can track my own relatively few journeys on a free app. £35!!! And with these dreadful reviews? Are you joking, Volvo? What a bizzare business decision.
Update: response from Volvo was to email them. Well, of course I did that first. So, disappointingly, after 7 years of excellent customer service, I’m in a loop which ultimately ends with ‘no’ and stuck with either this crazily expensive and very poorly reviewed app, or… not having the full functions of the car I bought. That’s a bonkers way to encourage your loyal customers, IMO, Volvo.

The Guessing game

Yes I am writing a review on the Volvo app but a guessing game is really what you get, I recently just got a new XC90 Hybrid and was looking forward to being able to see all the info I needed to see like charging % and time etc but what seems to happen is that when you plug the car in then check it on the app a random number generator gives you a charge of between 0 and 100 then gives a time to charge, at no point does it update, it just stays as the same charge % and the time to full charge just stays the same but the time when it will be fully charged updates based on the never changing Charing time. The car itself is reporting it correctly so please fix this app so we can get accurate info.
Update: Hugely appreciative of Volvo commenting on my review to say that the issues are known and are being worked on, thanks Volvo, hopefully it won’t be too long.

Cannot connect to my car.

When we initially got our XC60 two years ago and enjoyed the functions of starting the car to get it warmed up ahead of getting in and being able to lock the car remotely upon receiving an unlocked notification. Trouble first started for us when we upgraded our mobile phones and we now have almost no functionality except for receiving unlocked notifications. Unfortunately, we still have to physically return to the car as the lock function doesn’t work and sometimes the notification is wrong. With the new update, we cannot even pair our phones to the car since the pin does not work. I’ve seen similar issues in these reviews yet the dealership I speak to seem oblivious that there is clearly a problem.

Poor assistance from Volvo Sweden and Uk

Following a previous update to the app I found it would it would no longer work and crashed at start up. Zero assistance from either Volvo Uk or Volvo Sweden who both despite them being the point of contact for customers from the app etc simply referred me to uk dealer who simply told me there are no reported issues on the internally technical forum for their workshops. After multi re installs of both the app and full IOS re installs from back up still no good. Only way to get it to work was a full fresh phone IOS install. Very inconvenient as lost all my apps, setting and passwords. Phone is now a mess. Thanks Volvo for screwing up my phone and you little and no assistance. Clearly there eas some issue and conflict between an update and IOS. Very disappointed plus as yet no increase in functionality. While I understand my 2018 v40 will not support many functions of newer and higher spec cars it really doesn’t do a lot.

Download misery

For this simple set up procedure you just need a computer science degree, an engineering degree, 3 full charges of an iPhone, 1TB of phone storage to screen shot the gazeleon “Oops, something went wrong” messages, 53 cups of coffee, a take-away food account, the patience of a saint, 2 days off work and a sleeping bag.
I’ve had to rate this app on the initial set up of my brand new car. The app is now running but I’m now so mentally unstable that my family are having me admitted to a facility for app related stresses. And to top it all, by the time I get out, my subscription will have expired.
Oh no they’re coming now, I’ve got to hide. Please help m........⚠️-:Connection Lost:-⚠️

Not Reliable Enough

Basically a good app that lets itself down. The information presented is useful and it is a good way for checking on the car. The Journal is useful and provides good information.
However, as already pointed out in other reviews, the battery status shown for the T8 is random, sometimes being correct and sometimes not. The facility to set the parking climate timer is at best flakey, and at worst, useless. It works 10-20% of the time at best, which is a shame as it could be very useful. It is more reliable just to use the app for remote starting of the parking climate, or the engine, as these features appear to work the majority of the time.
So I’ve reappraised my ranking of the App to one star. Why? Because the app is becoming less usable. It used to show you where the car went, it’s speed, power regeneration, mpg etc over that journey. No longer. And the worst part is that Volvo happily provide an e-mail address for support, but that support is never forthcoming. They like to make out that Volvo is a premium marque while failing totally and wholly at the first customer service hurdle. It’s all a bit sad really.

Very useful. Reliable. Potential for improvement

I’ve been using this with an XC40 for a month now and can’t really fault its current functionality. It starts the car or unlocks it within a few seconds, the journal updates straight away and being able to check the car is locked is very reassuring.
However there is room to improve. At present it creates a new journey every time you stop for fuel or coffee break. Being able to combine two or more segments into one trip would be useful. It could also indicate the sun roof and windows are closed. And lastly being able to access the cameras would be handy. I’m thinking if my wife were on her own and going to the car in a remote parking spot being able to see if anyone is lurking nearby would be reassuring although that might involve more than just a software change.

Not bad, but potentially so much more

When it works it's great. Being able to check you locked your car or get mpg for trips is useful. But it's not reliable enough. It often doesn't seem to get updated information, won't refresh reliably, won't let me log in etc.
By far the most annoying thing is that when you check if you locked the car, invariably it says "unlocked" or "door open" for ten seconds or so before updating. Not good for the heart rate. A simple "last updated" time would help a bit. Also, if the battery on the car is low, and it's gone into power saving mode, you don't get an update. Why doesn't the car send an "I'm going to sleep, here's my latest status" to the server?
There are also some things missing I'd like to see: "send location to car" doesn't work for my V40, no detailed trip route (just start and destination on an unzoomable map) and you can't track the position of the car while it's in motion - why not? There are a few issues in trip tracking too; a short trip (a minute or two) followed by another results in the second trip being ignored and the app reporting the wrong location for the car. I phoned the on call centre and they knew where the car was - just the app that was wrong.
