Will be deleted sadly

This used to be my go to app for my motorhome trips in Europe

I used it to plan routes which i could save as a favourite very useful

I could easily see how much the toll roads cost.

Now it is pretty much unusable for those things i needed so unless an update shortly this will be deleted sadly

What have you done?!

What have you done to this App?

I have had it for years and it has worked faultlessly. Now, it doesn’t store any last addresses, when I input an address, I have to press ‘itinerary’ which opens my browser and shows me hotels etc??

I just want a Route Planner how it used to be. I do a lot of travelling to different places and I used to be able to work out the best route for me…..not any more……so sad, this used to be my ‘go to’ App for any destinations, please explain how I can just do a Route Planner that remembers my destinations etc. Just disappointed that’s all ☹️

Updated to uselessness

This app used to show live traffic, and on a moving map, too. That was pretty much the only reason to use it. After the update it no longer shows live traffic. Useless.

Poor update

Was my go to App for planning journeys. Now since updating it doesn’t store previously planned routes, very disappointing as I had lots of favourite destinations stored. Sadly it now seems you are more interested in directing me to a Michelin starred restaurant.

Disaster

What on Earth are they thinking of, this is a cut down version of the one I was using for the past 10 years, for a start it can’t even remember the destinations checked out 10 minutes earlier. You have to step back to the initial preferences page to change route type and re-enter start and end destinations, previous version just one step back to change. The last version knew where I’d been 5 years before, let alone 5 minutes. Poor job, going to have to find another route planner

Bring back Discovery routes!

Great maps, decent navigation and the latest version seems much more stable. However, I really miss the Discovery route setting. That was a unique feature that made this app special. Michelin, please bring it back!

No CarPlay

I was excited to see an update to the app but the excitement turned to disappointment quickly. It is unusable for me as it does have CarPay API integrated into it.

Unimpressive app update

The previous iterations of the app I found helpful for planning a trip with an easy ability to save the route.

The updated app I’ve found to be not particularly user friendly and also clunky in its use. I have yet to find out how to save a new route.

What a terrible update. Before it was my go to satnav app but not any more. Where has the option gone for caravan (I don’t have a caravan but I do have a motorhome), also what about the alternative routes. Hate the new GUI too.

No “caravan” option any more

Via Michelin was the only app that routed taking into account a caravan, and it did a fantastic job of routing sensibly and predicting travel time. It doesn’t have that option any more, so has lost its USP for me. There are other navigation apps that are easier to use, so without the towing distinction, there’s nothing here for me any more. Sadly, in the bin it goes…

Timings

I do like this service. However, improvements I would like to see: 1. The timing between steps of a journey; 2. A marker to show where you are in the text as well as the one on the route; 3. Ability to add stops in between stops rather than at the end; 4. Being able to find campsites in a particular location e.g. camping near Millau. Which I can do on Google maps. 5. I’d like to get route profiles for cycling directions please. Otherwise it is much better at route planning than Google maps(with more realistic timings) although less accurate in locating a specific address. Which means you can be going the wrong way down a one way street. Almost perfect but a little more work needed .... Thanks anyway.

I still like the app but now that low emission zones have taken effect in France I need to plot a route avoiding these in the same way that I can avoid tolls or sea crossings. This is VERY IMPORTANT as I don't want to incur a fine. As my vehicle is old and doesn't have satnav I have to rely on Michelin when I am in France.

A work in progress

I travel extensively in Europe and wish to be able to see at a glance how far each stage of a journey is. I can’t see a way to do this with this App. When I look at My Favourites in My Profile - the only option I can see is ‘Delete.’ What use is that? I can’t see a way of saving a route offline either; or is that just me?

I have two vehicles - a car and a camper. I can’t see a way of saving two profiles and have to delete one when switching to the other then re-enter it again when I switch back.

Advert Overload

This has been my go to application for routes and navigation for over a decade. The recent mobile app keeps popping up adverts all the time which you cannot get rid of. Feels like bad app programming. I have the latest iPhone 15 and I can’t get rid of them. there is a risk that if people can’t use the app, they will delete it. And they will never come back. Michelin do something about this please before it’s too late.

Doesn’t show uk speed limits correctly

Wanted to try this out as planning on driving to Europe this year. It seems to work well I like the route plotting and information on tolls etc however I have switched it MPH speed which shows my current speed correctly in MPH but the speed limit display which is also in MPH is doing a straight conversion from KPH. Example is I drive on a 30mph road the speed limit will show 19mph which equates to 30kph. It makes this specific feature pointless, at least in the UK.

Often needs a reboot

This great app is temperamental in that it often won’t allow you to plan a route unless you reboot the app.

You enter your destination and hit “Start”. The button then flips to the top of the screen . When you hit start again, it flips to the bottom of the screen.

So unless you shut the app down and restart, you can’t use it. Annoying, because this never happened before the update!

As always your wonderful company has made travel a whole new adventure. Everything so plainly marked and helpful hints giving us on the road much more reassurance. Hotels, alternate routes in fact I refer to it before we travel. Well done Michelin keep it up.

Really useful

I’ve been using this app for a while now to help work out routes through Europe towing our caravan. It’s so easy to use and calculates fuel costs and tolls pretty accurately. The journey times are close to actuals as well, so overall I am very happy to give this app a 5 star rating and confident to recommend it, as I have done to many people.

Very annoying ads

There is a lot to like about this app, but it is totally spoilt by ads. It is a shame that the French do not keep up with the rest of the world and offer a paid option to get rid of these persistant ads.

There are so many navigation apps out there and their competition have worked this out. Like most French companies, they do what they want and not what the customer wants. I know, I am married to a French girl.

This is the very best route map and planner

The Michelin app performed flawlessly for every road trip I’ve undertaken, within the UK and all over Europe. Its superb database of town names and postal codings made very easy to find locations across the Continent. Route planning is equally robust and very, very swift to load and respond when underway. I cannot heap adequate praise on the Michelin planner - it’s great!

Rubbish update

This used to be a great app but the latest update has killed it. Why portrait? Why when you ask to show petrol stations does it only show stations 100 miles off your route, same for hotels. Not ideal when you are in a strange country. I only used it to pre plan trips across France and Spain. On the bright side it has made me look more at my inbuilt car sat nav....far better.

My go-to for live traffic

Unlike other Sat Navs the congested roads are shown straight away on opening this app. I think it sometimes over-estimates the degree of congestion but I can take that into consideration. Very clear maps and easy to use. I wish I had known it had existed years ago when I was driving all over Europe & the UK for work.

Comments on this version

I have tried a few sat nav. Apps. Have ended up travelling in Europe this year using the app. I find the ease of entering route and it’s ability to rotate to show direction to top of device very comfortable. However can I suggest. Is it possible to upgrade by plotting routes using points on map or coordinates? Can a route that has been plotted be saved for future use? Some routes we took are not up to date as when roads are modified it is picking up old detail.

Great travel guide

I’ve used this for a good while now and find it the best GPS by far. Only problem I’ve found is the speed limit on the road your on is way out. When your in a 60mph area it can read as low and obscure number, for example, 32mph. Needs to be addressed.

Not very good now

Seems the developers have stopped the ball again. This once excellent App is now distinctly below average. Fuel consumption for my car is over estimated by car 49% on short and long (>500km) autoroute journeys. Routing iffy at times. Reims to Calais ferry terminal for instance showed a route to Dover and back! The fuel cost ok can't be changed and it's wrong by 10%.

So sadly whilst this was once my go to route planner for journeys in France it now lags well behind eg Googlemaps.

Needs sorting

Typing in an address 20 miles from me and it keeps going to Europe or the states. If this ain’t fixed next update it’s in the bin. It’s appalling it has not a clue where it is. Zero stars if I could. Why are you threatening to close my account just because I am not using it. I’m logged in to my account in the app and look at it from time to time. Are you aware there is a pandemic and people are told to stay at home or have you got your heads buried in the sand. Could this be the reason we are not using navigation apps. And what difference does it make to you if I don’t use it what harm is it doing. Disgusted with your attitude. Still as bad as ever the petrol filter don’t work it still don’t know where it is. The blue location indicator dances around like it’s doing the quick step and I only looked at it for about 10 mins. I would not trust this to take me anywhere use google or waze. This is full of bugs.

Nothing dine about this useless map. Sending me Mike’s out the way up the m6 and m54 through Telford from Walsall to Telford. Anyone in their right mind would not go this way. And the other route that I would got it would not select. Not a penny I. The shilling with Google or Waze.

First rate App!

I have used this App on many occasions to plan driving tips abroad and have always found it easy and informative.

The overall ‘feel’ of the App is one of understanding.

When planning a trip the relevant information is at hand with the added bonus of having alternative routes and pricing (including tolls etc.).

There is also additional information in relation to accommodation, plus to eat and rest stops.

A first rate App !!

A brilliant app much better on the iPad version than mobile phone but nevertheless an excellent route planner. Always use this when planning trips to France Germany etc. The saved places and group costing features are excellent

Why did you change to this new version the one above that I reviewed earlier was much better and simple to use. Although still a great app I find it much more awkward and complicated to use. You are not the only company that does this my policy is if it’s not broken don’t fix it.

The new app works very well and is very user-friendly. The only fly in the ointment is that the car details need to be inputted each time you use it rather than retaining your information until you delete it.

Great multi-stop route planner

Awesome bit of software that we are using to plan a long-distance journey in our camper van next summer.

Only reason for 4* rather than 5* is that you are limited in the number of stops that you can add and that the app is built for car users rather than those of us with campers but these are minor niggles.

This is better than google maps in my opinion. We use it for cycle touring and it’s pretty good. It would be great if it could tell you which was the hilliest route of the 3 options, it might come up as the shortest at present. Sometimes it’s easier to go another couple of miles on the flat than tackle a few steep climbs.

Where ever you are you know what to see and where to eat and since the attractions have a classification you now were to go and where not to go . Many guides send you to places that are very disappointing

Impressed but flawed

This app is a double edge sword some good some poor.. good bits. We traveled to Spain through France, using the App with found cheaper routes with less tolls which saved us about €30 and found us cheaper petrol stations again saving us money on the motorways about 1.8 to 1.9 per litre and it found us some at between 1.4 and 1.5 which is quite a bit of saving per litre.. it also found us quicker routes which google was saying were slower? Now the flaws which niggled u,s too many options for petrol.. E5 ,E10 95-, E5 95-E10 and on and on you couldn’t select more than one at a time.. which took a lot of time.. also some of the petrol stations were not up to date .. we went to two which were shutdown due to COVID or the price was wrong. There should be an update button to notify you of any changes .. if a lot of people have been notified you .. well you could maybe look into it ..

Scary experience after being navigated onto a mountain track

We recently drove from Calais to the French Alps. We were already unimpressed that this app took us off the free-running peage routes and on a mountain road that ended up in rush-hour Geneva. But the best bit was until last. With just five miles left to reach o destination on a main road it took us a off and into a wooded mountain road along a dirt track. The narrow track was barely passable with a sheer drop on one side. Only my wife’s skilful driving and luck that we were not on a wider care averted a potentially catastrophic accident. We were tired after an eight hour drive and relying on this app to get us to a new destination and it couldn’t have been more unhelpful.

Update allows me to use it in landscape mode again

Have used this excellent app for a long time but on the last update I was unable to use it in landscape mode. This meant I couldn’t use my iPad Pro on its stand. I contacted Michelin help and was informed I had to wait till the next upgrade. I received regular emails confirming they were working on a solution and a final one after the most recent update. Now working perfectly so thank you Michelin for listening and acting on customer feedback.

Up dated version

I preferred the old version I have used it for 10 years and I was totally ok with it. It’s my first time on the new version and I am having difficulty navigating how to do it. We need to plan 3 possible trips abroad depending what happens with Covid, and I am hoping by then I can manage the new version. I could do with an email to tell me where everything is as I am having trouble finding it.

Best app EVER

The other day I was lost in the middle of country lanes, "diversion" signs had disappeared. ViaMichelin located me and I was soon able to negotiate my way out onto a B Road. With no signposts or street names, ViaMichelin was invaluable. I have even directed my son to a specific petrol station in a village in Belgium when he was enrouit from Germany to Calais & I was in Cornwall. You can't get much better!!!

Could be better

For some reason this latest version insists on moving to portrait mode. Most difficult when trying to use a keyboard when route planning. Why is this? Is it because of the links with electronic vehicles?

And what has happened to the choice of routes that used to be offered? We now only have one route and you have to choose which you want before entering destination data.

Go to navigation app for interesting routes

This is the best navigation app. I’ve always liked Michelin maps and especially the green highlighted scenic routes. This provides the best of the maps with ultra modern route planning technology and accurate timing. The multi step route planner is especially useful for planning my motorcycle trips. Highly recommended.

Fuel calculator

It is great app for creating your road trip. I like that it gives you choice of few routes. My favourite part is that you can calculate how much fuel you will use and if there are any toll charges on that route. Also creating multiple stops and merging them into one trip is very helpful - something google maps don’t give you.

Essential travel app

This is a great app for planning a journey. I especially like the way in which it accommodates multi-stops for a journey. The journey time feature is also very useful as a guide and tends to be pretty accurate. I don’t tend to use the journey costing feature however because, with my car returning about 70 mpg, this is too generic and means that I would be forever changing petrol prices.

I recommend this app- very useful and accurate.

Excellent app for comprehensive road trip planning

Used this app for years, through many versions and changes, mostly for Western Europe and the UK. Recently mapped out a trip in the US with reasonable success. Like having a static version of a Tomtom, but more comprehensive....easy to get your head around and provides a nice comfort level for me in advance of actually get on the road. ....better than a paper atlas!

No doubt about it the regular offering of three routes is a boon. You can either bat round the country you are in using fast motorways or take more leisurely routes via lower class roads. Couldn't do without this app when I drive through France every year and in the UK when I’m not too sure of a new destination. It meets with my every expectation!

Good app!

I downloaded this to use for a recent caravan trip after seeing other reviews based on caravan usage, we drove through Belgium and into France and back again, we had a day out into Geneva Switzerland and this app got me out of Geneva city centre when others were sending me round in circles!

Good points

1. Like the fact that you can add fuel costs / vehicles etc, and get multiple route options

2. Maps quite clear

Bad points

1. Advert pop ups! Please stop them

2. Couple of issues with wrong directions sending me off at junctions from motorway and then back onto same motorway, after it happened once I just tried to look at map closely to see but not always that easy when driving and kids are in the back!

3. Voice guidance directions very poor, I.e would tell you to turn right / left instead of “ stay in right lane”

4. Speed limits don’t seem to take into account if you are towing

Overall not a bad app. With a bit of work could be a GREAT app, I would use this over google / apple maps if towing

Hard to beat...but

Used this app on my iPhone on my first trip to France with a caravan. It was excellent right up to the point we were about 5 kilometres from our site & it took us along a single track road & down a 20% hill with a tight turn at the top. I’ve since found a main route which would have left me with fewer grey hairs. Another minus point is that even when plugged in & charging this app was draining power at an alarming rate when being used. I’ve used google maps to visit the local area & although lacking features of ViaMichelin, at least leaves power in the phone. Not perfect but what navigation app is...& it’s free!!!

Most reliable so far

Very good, gave accurate street names and was able to keep up to date with where we were.

Needs a bit more updating when it comes to exits/ entrances of shopping areas/ estates and industrial parks as we followed the on screen route and missed a few turnings taking us too far or needing to double back causing late arrival. But generally on routes it gave us turning options on time and warned of traffic delays.

Good idea to have a screen shot of route at start, thunder storm disrupted date light link on my phone but I was able to use the photo as a map.

The Swiss Army knife of route planning

This really is a good tool looking for a more efficient way of creating a route. Creating then adding waypoints from a list is too cumbersome. Having established a start and end point it should be possible to drag the route around by tapping a point on the map, especially when using Michelin’s green “scenic” roads

I especially enjoy the up to date mapping data, traffic/roadworks info and position of fuel stations

Outdoor be so much better!

Granted it’s not “Waze” but good for checking routes when not in the car on the iPad. If you asked me one thing would be when it tries to work out cost in fuel give us the option to add what we get on average miles to the gallon on a run in our car. Example on run the car can do near 300 miles to £40 easy with my driving style this has 212 miles at £42. I did a drive a few months back brimmed the tank and did 330 miles and brimmed at holiday lodge Scotland. Total cost £41. Same route on this has cost £65 because it has my car set at god knows what low MPG.

Could be brilliant if only it worked all the time

This app is so much more useful than other map apps for planning out complex journeys where you would like to get an idea of costs (especially tolls). However, it regularly crashes and if you give it a journey of four steps or more it always comes up with an error message saying the route is impossible to calculate. This continually happens on both my iPhone and my iPad even though I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app several times (and it happens to my friends to).

Seems Good

Some map apps will only let you plan a route from your current location because they are using GPS & this is finding where you are now.

This app allows you to enter a different start location which is useful if you are going to be staying somewhere & want to pre plan outings.

This app allows you to switch on GPS when you need it & off when you don’t.

Up to date and easy to use

Have not been using this app - until today that is - when we had to make a journey up to Limoges, France - on a day when the farmers had blocked all the Peage's en route, making it a very tough journey. Remembering I had downloaded this app years ago - thought I'd give it a try!! It proved to be much more helpful than the Sat Nav - We will definitely be using it again!!!

Great App if speed info is corrected

Great app for planning those routes anywhere you wish.

Just planned our Road Trip to the USA for 2019 and although the maps are route info is first class, one little glitch lets it down. The Speed limits are still not being shown correctly.

Used it on my iPad and really looks great.

Would be great if you could send the map straight to your Tom Tom 6200

Good but Could Be Better

We travel in a motorhome. We use GPS coordinates a lot. VM is not currently designed for MHs. A shame. VM cannot find campsites as easy as Google Maps - it doesn’t recognise camp names or the format of street addresses the way Google Maps does. VM is more accurate when I put a big car towing a caravan than GM. There are a lot of us MH people around now. Hopefully VM will adapt. At the moment VM is complimentary to GM.

Great maps, average nav.

Maps are outstanding as you would expect with the added feature of hotels and restaurants. Great for planning and will be used as such.

When driving, current speed is accurate but the speed limit displayed was never correct during my journey in England. Instructions came a little late but were kept simple and clear. Easy to use but needs some fixes.

Great planner but no guidance on iPad version

I really like the VM guidance despite some minor niggles like it assuming that you can travel at speed limit all the time.

But why does the gps guidance not work on the iPad version, which seems to be nothing more than a screen repeat of the full internet mapping tool with none of the guidance functionality that the mobile phone version has?

Very Poor.

Review Update: Still not working properly. On complex journeys with several steps this app just gives up and gives an error message. Units are still wrong. Seems to be worse since the last up date. Rubbish app. STILL.

This should be a good clear app., it is easy and convenient to use, I have had it for some years. However Michelin keep asking for reviews but take absolutely NO notice of these. The result is an unsatisfactory app and really poor attention to problems that NEED CORRECTING.

With regard to speed and distance units, these are hopelessly inaccurate.

When travelling in the UK, it would be a good idea for the route information in miles to be accurate, instead of being too great by a factor of 1000. At the moment instead of telling you (for example) to turn left after 0.85 miles, it will tell you to turn left after 850 miles, I.e. 1000 times too large.

When travelling in France, I always change the units to metric. HOWEVER the speed limit signs on route information often perplexingly remain in mph. This results in speedsigns giving permissible speed limits of up to 130 MPH(!!) which is clearly nonsense.

Come on Michelin, why ask for feedback when you are obviously NOT interested in it???

Very useful

This satnav is very useful in many ways giving alternative routes and much useful information along the way if required. Also you can search for accommodation and click on links to their websites. The Michelin recommended routes will be very useful when I drive to Italy later this year as they seem to be excellent.

English visitor to France

Michelin makes planning very easy and quick to select from the many different possibilities when driving through Europe. Parameters such as distance, cost and time can be selected to suit your purpose.

I wish that the maps were clearer with the roads less emphasised by thick lines. A simple map is offered but it is little easier to see than the others. Everything else is very good.

Great Planner

We've used the ViaMichelin route planner for years when we plan our foreign holidays and have never found any other that enables us to plan each day as we travel in our motorhome and ViaMichelin let's us work out each day's itinerary. We can take a screen grab of each day including driving directions and the really great thing is we can easily link direct through to the Michelin Green Book to see details of any points of interest we might want to visit.

This is one app we really wouldn't want to be without and thoroughly recommend.
