That’s too many and none were a quick 5 seconds add, they were all at least a minuet long and longer. But other than that brilliant. I was looking forward to watching a program which was playing live by using the restart facility. Sadly no sound with restart but fine if I played live ( and missed the beginning 🙄). I did a soft restart on my iPad as this sometimes fixes problems with this app getting stuck or not responding… no change. I updated the app… no change. I have given up. When I watch on demand the programme will often jump back to the beginning after adverts. What is going on ITVX?

Can’t believe this app has a rating of 4.6!!! It doesn’t work for me. Broadband/wifi heavy. Can’t watch anything on demand on firestick WiFi. Buffers on iPhone. If you watch a live show online but hit’ from start’ when the original live show naturally reaches the end, your restarted show also abruptly ends - kind of pointless having the from start feature - and then the half watched show can’t be found in the listings so there’s no chance of seeing the whole thing. Waste of time! Have to wait for the shows to come out on amazon prime then watch on a proper app designed /fit for purpose

In a 40 minute show, there was 6 intervals of 3 minute ads.

And all of the ads are the same every-time, and it gets very boring.

Now I understand you need to run ads to make money to fund the platform, but it’s a little bit much.

I would end up watching more shows and seeing more ads in the end if they just were not so frequent.

This. App. Is. Ad. MiracleYou get around 5 mins of ads at the start of every film/episode. Ad breaks of 5mins around every 10 mins of content. Quite often it’s the same ads which is really fun. And now candy crush sponsor the ads which is totally sweet!!! But I definitely think there’s room for more ads though, which I’m confident all viewers would really welcome. In fact I’d strongly suggest adding some more ads to ensure it’s mostly ads rather than content, to make sure I don’t miss any ads. I’d even consider paying a small monthly subscription for more ads. Only small though as I’ll need some money to buy the products in the ads! Obvs! Thanks, and I hope you take on board this suggestion for more ads. Add more ads! ITVX is the best!!! (for ads)

I overall really like ITVX hence why I pay for premium.

However, it’s one thing I still get ads when watching shows, but why get irrelevant ads? I want to wind down and watch a comedy but have to watch countless ads about documentaries about murders, rapes and all manner of other terrible crimes.

Surely if I am watching comedies the ads accompanying them should be other comedies I may like. Proper buzzkill watching something fun and then having something about young girls murdered put infront of you.

Please make the ads relevant to the genre of what is being watched.

If you switch off app half way through an episode and come back to it later you have to start the episode from the beginning again- this includes all the ads - again

I stupidly assumed that if you press the home button on an iOS device that it would take it to a small screen in the corner, like it does on numerous other streaming apps, this feature is obviously way ahead of its time and something ITVX will hopefully get within the next 10 years. Oh and if you do this whilst watching remember point 2 above you have to go through those stages again.

Search was very clumpy, when looking for love/hate it took me 5 mins to find because it didn’t come up in the search results

I expect there are more bad things about this app but these are what I found out just watching 1.5 episodes of a series, I know you pay for a version to remove the ads but this would not stop the issues above, needs a complete overhaul and bought up to date with its features.

My continue watching list completely disappeared. Sick and tired of the error message “something went wrong”. Programmes suddenly stop while viewing all you have is a blank screen staring back at you . The blank screen indicating that the app has crashed yet again, the 5th time while viewing the same programme. It takes ages to re- start the programme you were previously watching.

Often you just give up trying to restart the program you’re watching and click on Netflix, Prime etc. 5 star rating gets more views of my true experience. The app is simply dreadful.

I like the idea and have subscribed for several years but that’s just to skip out the adverts.

Issues. 1) after watching and a programme ends it needs to be closed and then restarted otherwise you can’t play next episode. No continuation 2) most downloaded programmes don’t play and need to be restarted which is annoying if no signal says “prob with app” so you have to delete and redownload so waste of time 3) says you can download while apps not open. That’s a lie. You have to have app open and if phone locks with your usual times you then you have to delete any part recorded and start again. Extremely time consuming. 4) you can’t minimise the screen while watching like all other streaming services 5) while watching downloaded, it does not remember where you are at if you leave and come back. So constantly moving back and forward 6) when downloading an episode (like emmerdale) you have the oldest series and episode first so have to scroll for ages to find the latest episode.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the app and it has access to a lot of shows that you can’t find anywhere else AND IT’S FREE TO WATCH?!? I’m rating this app 5 stars so hopefully it goes to the top and gets seen. This app is awful and NOTHING ever works. I could go on for hours about how bad this app is but I really don’t have time so here are a few of the most irritating things about this app. First of all, the app doesn’t let me watch any programs that I would like to watch. When I click on the programs it comes up with a ‘sorry there seems to be an issue with itvx’ message, yeah so why don’t you fix your app. The second thing is, on the off chance that it MAY work it is incredibly slow, it buffers and also sometimes plays out of sync with the words, making it incredible painful to watch. Finally, the ads. You guys really love to throw in ads at EVERY given opportunity don’t you. You can’t start your program from where you finished it last time before watching 5 minutes of ads then often sending you to the wrong part for you to move it to the correct part and it to show 5 more mins of ads. By the time I actually get to watch the program I’ve watched an eBay advert 12 times, vinted ad 10 times and I’ve ordered my takeaway on deliveroo thanks to your ad. I think you might want to start reading all your negative reviews and maybe fixing the app instead of sitting back and collecting all the money off the ads.

Where to start. How about the fact using this app left me so angry i have had a non stop headache for the past hour. Here's the user experience summed up. I open the app. Okay i choose what i want to watch. Big brother is on right now okay i'll watch that from the start. After about 5 minutes of adverts it freezes on an ad. Okay i will just restart again. Now i'm watching big brother all fine and dandy. Until you have to leave the app for whatever reason. Even just switching to another app for a second. ITV's app is fine. While it does what you need it to do, there are some issues I have with it. As a start, the app doesn't keep track of where you have left off. I find that it is very annoying when I stop watching a show halfway through and come back later to watch it again. I have to watch parts of it that I've already seen and go through all the advertisements all over again. Secondly, Picture in Picture is a must. On my phone, sometimes I watch a show and then I want to do something else with it playing in the background. There are already a lot of catch up apps that have this feature, so I don't understand why itv doesn't have it. It would be a lot better if these issues were fixed.

I have just read a review from 2 years ago that basically says the same at what I am about to type! Firstly I get more errors with itv app than all other player apps, it tells me I have no Wi-Fi when I do! I wish the search could be more intelligent as you have to write almost the entire title you are looking for before it can be found. When watching live it freezes on the add image whist the sound carries on. When watching a live restart there is no ability to scroll along what’s already been aired to get to the point you left the programme at. BUT PLEASE can you modify the app so you can reduce the screen size so we are able to watch ITVX and do other things on the phone or tablet. Seriously you want people to pay for add free? Sort out the little things that that people keep asking for and you may get more customers.

Horrendously feature lacking app, no picture in picture so when I answer a notification or change apps, my content stops playing, even worse when I return to the app to continue playing, it's gone and it doesn't remember where I was! The content is good, it's just the features really make this streaming app unusable compared to all the others out there which puts ITVX at the bottom of my list for wanting to find content to watch! Since the switch from ITV Hub to ITVX, they have totally neglected the usual ITV channels for viewers who now have to use ITV X. No loyalty to your usual users and focussing on trying to get more viewers for box sets and films and ignoring the needs of those loyal viewers who have been using ITV Hub for years before it changed. For example, now, trying to find the most recent The Chase episode is like finding a needle in a haystack and it’s not at the top as most recent the episode marked as Today takes ages to find, the Limitless Win page still had them in Santa outfits going way into February and a show that is aired on the day like 1% Club didn’t load up on the day and we had to wait for it to become available… it’s like the terrestrial stuff is a app designer afterthought and now very frustrating to use. One more thing… the new horrible pea green vomit colour is hideous. However, I stay because I do love the shows once I finally get to navigate around this tops turvy app.

ITV Hub was great why mess with something that worked? It takes so long to watch whatever you choose with the ITVX flourish several times and then the extra ads when you finally get into it. If you are watching it late at night then an added irritation, it shuts down completely at midnight and you have to go through getting back in. With Hub, I often used my iPad in the kitchen and if I was a few minutes late for the start of the programme I knew I could start at the beginning again. Not with ITVX. It gives you the tab to press to start at the beginning but it doesn’t work. I guess maybe you have to be paying for ‘plus’ for that option. If you miss the beginning of an episode of something on the TV then you are stuffed as you won’t find it on ITVX until long after the live showing on the TV. NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE!

The app on my TV is pretty basic and slow to use. If you are going through lists of programmes ( say movies ) and add one to the to watch list, you cannot then go back to that same list again after to carry on looking. You have to start your search again from scratch as it takes you to the home page each time instead. Which is very slow going . Also it only shows about 5 programmes in the watch list right at bottom of screen. The rest are gone. It plays programmes perfectly fine though on my TV. The TV app just needs a few tweaks to make it easier to use. Watch list would be better in menu bar down left side of screen and it needs a much higher number of programmes you can add to it. Maybe 50 or something. I downloaded the app to my phone which is better but noticed loads of the programmes I added to the watch list have been removed from the list and it only shows about 15 programmes. So if you try and add any more it automatically deletes and unticks the ones at the bottom off the list. Which is very annoying. Also it’s a shame you cannot download things unless you upgrade, pay.

I can understand they want to make money but all channels with adds are far to higher than years ago. Thus though you skip it, it plays adds when you just saw them at the beginning when i start watching the rest of the game. It freezes and its not even HD i’m getting 40MBits/sec so not my internet. I click resume (at least it doesn’t start at the beginning anymore) you guessed it a shed load more of adds. No wonder I rarely use this app. Absolutely shockingly bad UPDATE: Still the most useless app I’ve ever used just stuck on endless adds. I saw most of the girls in the love island 2023 had challenges and pretty hard, can be heartbreaking. But I haven’t seen ever Shaq and Tanya’s connection with harder challenge. They were like glued since the start. It seemed like they have special treatment from the rest. This also crossed our minds this love thingy, the whole series maybe partly planted / scripted well with a fav set up, possibly even real a couple themselves prior with only spice up drama just to make it look they’re strangers. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed watching the episodes apart from it’s getting cringy when I see the less challenged romance of Shaq and Tanya luvy to each other. C’mon it should be fair enough to see everyone experiencing similar amount of challenge while Tanya and Shaq are set up.

Looking forward to the rugby all week but got the time wrong so came in half way through. It was live so I didn’t want to see the score, but the only way to “start program from beginning” is to first start it live, risking seeing the score! Once I had navigated that I could start from the beginning, but there was no way to scrub to kickoff, so I had to let the pre match chat run. However then I checked to see the progress bar and the line indicating the progress of the live stream had disappeared and then I got a message saying “error this content no longer available” and I got kicked out of the stream entirely. So not only have I wasted my time running the pre match coverage, I hadn’t watched a single minute of the actual rugby, due to the serious missing features and ill thought-through implementation. What’s worse is that the highlights only seem to be 5 minutes long which is simply adding insult to injury. Seriously disappointing. Can’t wait for the England game that is on the beeb since they have an actually usable app and decent highlights.

ITVX is better than ITV Hub - just; but since that was the worst app I’ve ever used it’s like saying that a ship is safer than the Titanic.

I can watch it on my iPhone but the app tells me it won’t allow screen mirroring to my Apple TV. It took me ages to get it on the TV via Google Chromecast - it also wouldn’t work for ages until I pulled the Ethernet cable from the Chromecast so it now streams ok via WiFi. So I can now view on TV.

However,,,,,, some hangovers from ITV Hub still exist. Like watching multiple episodes like Vera. Starting the next episode is not automatic so you have to go back to the menu - not so much a problem apart from watching the ads at the end of the episode, which you have to watch again at the manual start of the next one. Also for Vera (and others) the indication that I’ve watched the episode already is not reliable, same goes for partial viewing indicator. Sitting through a session of the same ads time after time only to find that I’ve watched this episode before is quite frustrating and after doing it 3 or 4 times on the trot makes me make a mental note never to buy Benecol (!!)

Come on guys. I know you skimped on the app by making cheap ads which weren’t the least bit funny but at least make it easy to use……

Since the change to ITVX I’ve had nothing but problems. If watching live as soon as the ads come on it buffers and often will crash. Will also do this as the program is airing though not as frequent. And no it’s not my internet speed it’s the app.

No more watch from start if you’re a few minutes late. The constant ads at the most inconvenient times make some programs unwatchable. This is because ITV want us to upgrade and pay to remove ads (obviously still ads on the live channels).

Want to be able to download your favourite programs to watch on that long journey you have planned. Only if you pay for it! With the amount of sponsored content, ads and disgraceful amount of product placementing ITV can’t be short of a bob or two. Since ITV got greedy for our money I’ve started watching less and less. Now since the change to ITVX I only watch 2 programmes and when they finish I probably won’t watch till they’re back on next year. Though if service gets any worse I doubt I’ll even be able to do that. This app is not fit for purpose!

Clicked on a recently finished program that was an hour long. Clicked watch from the start. It played from half way through. Once I realised, I tried to look at the time line but it didn’t show any. I pressed the ‘exit full screen’ button and it came right out of the program. I searched the main screen for the same program but couldn’t find it. I used the search function but the episodes hadn’t updated. I tried a little later but it still wasn’t there despite trying to refresh by pulling the screen down. I killed the app completely and restarted it and it eventually came up under the search ( I never did find it on that main screen again). However, when I clicked on it, it started from the very beginning so hadn’t kept my place, although as it happens, that was ok. This playback had a selectable timeline and worked fine including having exited then come back and being able to resume from the same place. The exit full screen button still doesn’t work how it should though. The Netflix player it is not…

I use this app on my LGTV and not a single day had passed without it suddenly failing to recognise my remote control. I like to binge watch series and although I’m driven mad by having to watch the same adverts at every commercial break (why don’t they vary them? It only ends up in you hating that brand because it’s rammed down your throat) - I persevere but then you get more grief from the episodes suddenly going out of sync. So you try and scroll down to select the right one and bam - remote becomes useless. So I have to turn the tv off and on again and reload the app.

And then there’s that annoying noise you get every time you open the app. (Silent scream) And why do you have to scroll down so far to pick up the programme you were watching? And why do you have to click three times to get it playing again and endure adverts AGAIN even though you’re rejoining the show mid episode rather than during a commercial break? I’m really surprised that such a big broadcaster has such a poor quality app. Do the people who create these applications ever use them themselves I wonder??

If Netflix can get it right why can’t ITV?

Not sure what the developers have done with this update from ITV HUB to ITVX but it’s not good. Hub would allow you to watch live TV easily worth almost never needing to buffer or having multiple video issues whilst you’re streaming such as you are watching live TV but then the video disappears and you can only hear the sound then 20 seconds late everything stops. And you can’t just close the app and reopen it, no that doesn’t work. And you can’t move right next to your Wi-Fi router and try again, no that doesn’t work either. You have to kill the app completely and then wait a couple seconds then open it again then find the live tv programme again and wait for it to connect and buffer and the adverts to end. ITV Hub didn’t have this problem in the recent versions, it was great. Don’t change something that ain’t broke!!!!

With regret I have decided to cancel my annual subscription to ITVX which falls due in the 30th of December. ITV-hub was my preferred way of discovering content and the ability to view programs without adverts for a modest subscription was delightful. I was looking forward to exploring the vast catalogue of programming announced in the pre-launch advertising hype, so when ITVX landed on AppleTV I was bitterly disappointed - The lack of any browsing option with content classified according to genre effectively means that I am dependent on ITV selecting content for me based on previous viewing habits. This is not how I want to use the service. I want to discover content for myself. The ITVX AppleTV app is illogical and full of bugs rendering the app frustrating to use. I emailed ITV requesting an update on their plans for development of the AppleTV app but so far I have received no response. I am a fan of British TV which in my opinion is the best in the world. I will renew my ITVX subscription if an AppleTV app with functionality in common with other streaming services is forthcoming. Come on ITV get this sorted.

Whoever designed this app needs to be fired, it’s an absolute joke.

I was watching someone live whilst waiting for a friend, he came out so I come off the app, when I’d dropped him off I opened it back up again and here’s the first issue, you can’t pause it live. So I clicked watch from the beginning and guess what, you can’t scroll forward. Why on earth can you not scroll forward? So what now? I wasn’t going to watch the first half an hour of a program I’d watched 10 minutes earlier so waited for it to finish and watched it on catch up when it become available. The second issue are the adverts, oh my GOD the adverts. So I bring it up on catch up, wait 3 minutes for the adverts to finish, the show then starts so I scroll forward to just under halfway but before it plays, it shows more adverts because I’d scrolled…. 6 minutes of adverts, SIX MINUTES. I watch 5 minutes of the show but low and behold, I’m just before another trigger for the adverts, so guess what? Another lot of adverts. I turned it off and I won’t be going back on it again, it’s an absolutely awful app. Oh and you also don’t have what every single other video app has, a preview screen so when you go off the app you don’t need to restart the program again… there’s a little mini screen in the corner to allow you to watch and read texts etc. Honest to god, no exaggeration, the worst of the TV apps by a country mile.

So I have used the normal free app with ads and I tried the 7 day trial. I didn’t keep paying for it because you still have ads with most of the shows I watch, they are ads for shows and ITV ads, so much less of them, but it really didn’t seem worth it for me.

First the good, it is much better than freevee, quite stable on our fire stick.

One thing I find annoying is I can’t minimise the screen on my phone and have it on while I do something else. I like to multi task and can’t do that while watching on the phone. If I need to answer a WhatsApp message I have to pause and that makes the watching experience a bit annoying.

It sometimes gets confused when I move from watching on my fire stick on the Tv to on the phone, say while working out. But on the whole, for a free streaming app, the quality is good. I’ll keep using it, but won’t bother paying.

I love being able to catch up on my soaps… for years now, I’ve been using the ITV hub app on my Apple TV. Responses from ITV support are always the same, “reset the app, trash and reinstall, etc” but these things never seem to work and when it does work, it’s short lived. Freezing images on the screen, ads play without interruption and then the show is just a black screen. I paid for the ITV+ so now, no ads, just black screen, constant pausing and freezing while trying to watch. Works fine on iPhone and on my MacBook. Haven’t tried the iPad yet, because I don’t want to watch on these devices, I want to watch on my tv. Since 2018, this issue has been consistent and has never actually been addressed by the developers, instead, telling people to reset their app, the same canned responses. Its disappointing that paying £8 a month hasn’t changed anything.

Whatever show it is you’ve missed on ITV, just give up on it. It’s not worth wading through all the adverts. It’s especially not worth trying to come back to a series and pick up where you left off. There’s no ‘continue watching’ - if it’s not on the main screen, you have to search for it. EVERY time. Painfully type it in if you’re using a TV. Then, if you remember which ep you were on (it won’t tell you) there is an option to ‘resume playing’ from where you left off - but it doesn’t work. If you select it you’ll get a brief glimpse of where you left off - so make a note of the time on the counter - before you get shown lots of ads. Then you’re back to the start of the ep. So you skip ahead to where you were…..then watch more ads before you can FINALLY watch a few minutes of your ep, before more (badly placed) ads. Just forget it. I gave it an extra star for being able to fast forward at 300x speed.

This app is very good, but VoiceOver the screen reader on all Apple products needs improvements. You can browse the shows in the audio described category, using normal VoiceOver commands, flicking left and right. Bbut when you get into the actual show you want to watch, this is where improvements are needed. If the show has a lot of episodes in it, you can only see the first episode in the series. And from this point, normal Flick commands will not work, all you get is a constant loop saying "Downloads" and "About this episode" button. It is virtually impossible to get the episode to play. The same is true for the website, but this is slightly easier, the current episode is listed as a heading followed by the link. But when you press Enter to play the episode, in the player all you get if using a screen reader is button, button, button. Please can you look into this, as it would be so much easier if the buttons had proper labels.

This is a CATCH UP service. The programs have already been paid for from their budget and original ads etc. So why do I have to sit through SO many ads? I don’t think I’ve used another app EVER that makes you watch as many ads as this. I know they are trying to make us subscribe but come on. To make it worse the ads suffer from issues so you have to close the app and then when you re-open it guess what?? More ads again. Quite often you can spend more time watching ads than actually watching the program. You don’t watch this many ads when the programs originally air on ‘live’ tv. There is no way that this CATCH UP SERVICE is more expensive to run than the actual ‘live’ channel which is paying to make the content. I have no problem watching ads or at least letting them play in the background with the sound off but this is yet another example of a dev being TOO GREEDY with the ads. I’m not interested in the monthly subscription as these programs have already been paid for with the original ads. The monthly fee is not paying for content like on Netflix etc.

Yes, it is good to be able to catch up with programmes I have missed, but…

1. The app does not remember where I am

I’m a series - so when I return to viewing, I have to try to find which episode I was watching and how far I had got. This is very annoying in its own right, but even more so when combined with…

2. The app insists on showing the same bunch of ads over and over again. It is soooo frustrating that sometimes I just give up and close the app and watch something elsewhere. If, for example, I want to find which episode in a series I watched last, I might open an episode and have to watch a whole bunch of ads before the episode even starts (which I understand, btw, although it would be better if these were in the middle of the episode, rather than before you have watched anything). Then I realise that I have already seen this episode, so I skip to the next one, and I have to sit through all the same ads again, even though I watched them about 10 seconds ago. This problem would be solved by putting the ads in the breaks in the programme, rather than at the start when you are trying to check if you have watched an episode already. Or by not showing the same ads again to someone who has just watched them.

I received this reply from ITV - which I thought was a very quick response & clearly an attempt to solve the problem (5* for effort!):

“Hi, testing the app with both mobile data and Wi-Fi switched off (or in Airplane mode), it does open and displays a message saying, "Are you connected?" with the option of 'Go to Downloads' to watch them offline without a network or mobile signal. If that's happening on the app for you, can you try updating the app to version 11.5 to see if that makes a difference?”

Firstly I tried to update the software per suggestion but couldn’t find any way via the app to to this. I then went to settings to see if I could do it from there but nothing there either. (Turns out it’s via the AP store which I discovered by chance when I went to update this review.)

But I did try switching off mobile data in settings for ITV hub and that did the trick! Thank you.

Some shows that have recently been aired like latest series of Unforgotten don’t yet have subtitles which makes them hard to watch in noisy environments like trains (you have to really turn up headphone volume and even then it’s easy to miss some dialogue). And it would be nice to have a skip recap & skip titles option too.

Otherwise a decent player, worth subscribing if you enjoy all the sport and reality shows in addition to some good drama.

I have always used the hub to catch up on things I have missed ( especially the cycling coverage) by connecting my iPhone to my tv via HDMI cable so I don’t have to squint at the small iPhone 7 screen. We don’t have a smart TV or WiFi so this was the ideal solution. This has always worked fine up until the latest update. Now I just get a message telling me I need to purchase an Apple TV. Like the other reviewer said, why should I spend a fortune on new technology when the equipment I have is fully functioning and doesn’t need scrapping, think of the environment - not just the waste but the use of limited resources in the production of endless new products just because of an App upgrade! The ‘right to repair’ bill should apply to tech as well. Those of us with slightly older equipment ( wow 3 years old!!!) should have a right to still be able to watch the programmes on the hub app. ‘Repair’ the hub to allow us to do this.

I don’t mean adverts in general, I understand and accept why they’re needed. My frustration is with the app itself. I’m struggling to find the words to explain but if you’re watching a program and viewed the adverts, then “rewind” the program, you have to watch the same adverts again before you can go back to the part of the program you’ve already watched. I understand the need for adverts every 15 mins but not being able to skip 15 minutes backwards without rewatching the adverts is ANNOYING. No other app does this that I’m aware of?

But apart from that the app itself is pretty good. Would be great to run the app in the background whilst doing other things like you can with Netflix but that’s paid for, so I see why ITV doesn’t have that feature.

I’ve recently started to watch a few show on ITV so decided to subscribe. Not a bad price and you can cancel any time. I have a couple of niggles with the app though. It doesn’t always remember what I was watching or where I was up to which is a bit frustrating. Also, this morning I opened the app to watch the catch-up episode of last nights Dancing on Ice only to have the result right there on the home page. I know that seems like a trivial thing and I still enjoyed the show but I don’t know why, when I would have thought most people will be using the app for catch-up, you would put the results of a show on the home page the morning after broadcast, at least give it a couple of days. I very often have to watch shows after they’ve been broadcast and avoid social media so I don’t find out who’s won/gone out/gone through to next week etc but I don’t expect to see it displayed so obviously just the morning after on the channel’s own app.

This app works great on my iPhone 11, I have a clear picture and there are lots of shows available on here. However, the ads are incredibly annoying. Just like many on demand services there are ads that come with it but the ones on here are 3 minutes long at the very least. If you want to leave the app and go back to a show (say to reply to a text) you have to watch more adverts just to resume watching on top of the adverts that you have to watch before and during the programme. The ads are repetitive, listening to the same adverts several times in one hour is enough to drive anyone insane and it takes forever to watch one episode of something because of this. I never watch more than one episode of anything in a row because of the ads. Please shorten the 3 minutes or at least the number of times they appear because it’s ruining what is otherwise a very good app.

In theory ITVplus is a fantastic app, perfect for me who is often busy when all the soaps are on, allowing me to be able to catch up when ever I get a spare moment. I especially love being able to swap devices so easily, ensuring that it’s entirely possible to be watching at home for example, and then picking up from where you left off, on your phone whilst out and about.

However, as I said, in theory it’s a great app, but in practice it doesn’t fare quite so well.

Constantly need to reload the whole app or just the program you’re wanting to watch, until it actually plays without freezing, has a picture as well as sounds, and shows the programme where you left off, and not frozen or with no picture at all. This is so frustrating and takes time to resolve the matter. I wouldn’t mind so much if this happened every now again, but sadly it’s seems to be almost every time I try to watch my much loved soaps etc. Please please read your reviews......and more importantly, LISTEN! Listen allowing a picture to go with it, and in colour please, not black and white!!😂

I have used this app for years and after getting irritated with adverts I finally paid for plus.

Now as I get rid of it, the app keeps crashing every time i go from one programme to the other or there is an advert break, it goes through the adverts then when the show should come back on it crashed or mutes itself then I have to watch a second lot of adverts.

This has happened almost all the time when a show has an advert break. Sometimes it starts the programme all over again and won’t show the whole 30 minute sequence bar so I can jump ahead.

Please sort this out... it’s taking away the joy of watching tv on an app on my iPad. It takes over 1 hour just to watch a simple 30 minute show.

Thanks for nothing ITV. Whilst I enjoy watching programme on the app, I am now longer able to do this. My iPad is too old for the update so the powers that be suggest purchasing new equipment. In a time of uncertainty, where livelihoods are on the line, and we are encouraged to not be wasteful when the environment is in such a precarious state, why should anyone have to purchase something new because an unnecessary update requires it? If companies continue in this way people will either have to upgrade their equipment (and we add to landfill and the depletion of resources) or lose out. Doesn't seem fair or just to me.

I'm also thinking of people who are currently isolated and rely on TV for solace, company and entertainment. It is crucial that these vulnerable people are able to access what they need.

Please reconsider your actions ITV or lose respect and viewers.

There's no point in advising people to visit a website for an explanation. Just a long-winded way of diverting people and confirming what we already know - THERE'S NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT UNLESS WE PAY A FORTUNE FOR A NEW IPAD/TABLET...blah blah blah. The excuse that ITV Hub needs to be compatible with newer technology is wearing thin. It seems that many of the reviews here are from people who simply cannot afford to purchase a new phone/tablet. I can see from other reviews that I’m not alone in this but if you need me to wipe my phone, reset my WiFi and yadayada you can forget it - it’s a 9 month old iPhone running iOS 13.7 so instead of asking the client to sort out the problem why don’t you just design an app that actually does what it’s supposed to and WORKS? It’s not like people haven’t been complaining about how bad this app is for a very, very loooong time. And you seriously expect us to want to pay for BRITBOX ...? So ludicrous it’s laughable. I get it. ITV is an advertising funded channel, so the app will be ad funded too. I don’t like adverts, but I accept their necessity.

That said, the sheer volume and intrusiveness of ads in this app, is intolerable and completely ruins the experience.

My feedback remains - if the app remains this infested with ads, I don’t use it. It’s ITVs choice if they want to keep that level of ads. It’s my choice to not to use it in that case. From scanning the other reviews, I’m not alone in that view.

ITV Hub has all the basic functionality you’d expect from a TV on-demand app. Given ITV is a commercial enterprise and it is offering a non-subscription service it’s not surprising that one has to endure a number of adverts in order to watch the programmes. However, the adverts are obstructive in the sense that before watching the programme you have to sit through 3-4 minutes of adverts, if you fast forward you then have to watch the adverts again for another 3-4 minutes, or if you take a break and then choose the resume option you have to watch another 3-4 minutes of adverts. And if this endless advert watching time for was not enough of an ordeal, you watch the same 3-4 minutes of adverts repeatedly. This creates, in me at least, a resentment towards the advertised products rather than generating a desire to purchase them. So if you really want to watch one of ITV’s programmes and are willing to sit through the same adverts again and again, or can use the advert time to do something useful while waiting for your programme to come on, the ITV Hub is a workable solution.

I’m one of those people who have gone off watching tv lately because of my hearing problems and the advent of the TVs with bad and at the beck of tv speakers haven’t exactly helped either ! But when I watch things on my iPhone I can use my headphones and hear things very well, The new drama “Des” was very gripping from the get go because of the very sad prevalence

Of the return of homophobia in 21st century !

And unfortunately the gay community has never been treated as equals in any part of the world and despite the latest changes re marriage status of the gay people , still homophobia is alive and well in the UK and other parts of the world.

It is important for us to know that the gay community is facing new challenges in the 21st century.

My Virgin Media V6 box is out of commission for a few days so watching TDF highlights on ITV hub. The whole viewing experience is totally ruined by the incessant advertising. It can take over 10 minutes to actually get to the programme that you want to watch. On one advertising block the same advert was shown 3 times. In my opinion the app is just unusable.

Have given it 1 star because there is no zero star option available.

Thanks to ITV for their response. However this is the standard response regarding the constant criticism to their app. Have watched other TV apps such as channel 4 and 5 and they do not resort to the bombardment of adverts employed by ITV. This app

is a cynical manipulation of a normal viewing experience to force viewers to pay for the add free version. ITV’s reputation is completely trashed by this policy. When my normal viewing system is reinstated I will be deleting this app and consigning it to the bin where it belongs.

I have received help from the Support Team and I am now able to use the hub on my 'old' iPad.

By uninstalling the latest version and downloading the 'previous purchased' version all is working. It does, however, require that updates are turned off or it will simply install the latest version that won't work!

Previous review - The ITV stopped working recently and told me to update to the latest version. It started to download then came up with a message that it is not compatible with my iPAD 3 wifi + cellular with 15+gb available space running iOS 9.3.6. even though the app details state iOS9.0 or above. It is ridiculous that I would need to spend a 'fortune' on the latest iPAD just to run the app when all other apps run perfectly on my one.

Come on ITV, please get this sorted immediately as there are thousand of owners of older machine who want to run the app but cannot afford to upgrade their iPADs.

This is the most irritating streaming app you could possibly use. The actual programmes & shows are great, don’t get me wrong. But actually playing the video is the trickiest and most time-consuming part of it all. If you were to resume a show, it automatically sends you to the beginning. Then you have to watch 3 minutes worth of adverts. Finally they’re over, now to resume at the place you left off. Adverts again. Haven’t gone far enough into the show? Try to find your place again and you have to watch even MORE adverts.

It takes up to 10-15 minutes just to resume anything you’re watching. Absolutely ridiculous. At this point I’ve given up, I’m completely impatient so if you are too, I don’t recommend downloading it.

Please fix this. At least put adverts at the start, beginning and end NOT every time you move the button to where you left off!

I would like to be able to access the schedules more easily on the hub. If you don’t precisely know what a programme was called it is difficult to find in the Search function. Browsing the schedule is the quickest way of finding something you missed live and also gives the chance of finding other programmes I might like. Like all the other hubs the menus present programmes the broadcaster wants you to watch or are their most popular which means wading through irritating irrelevance to find something to your taste and the ap doesn't seem to learn I have no interest in the things that are presented. That said the ap is stable, advertisements are not too intrusive and works on different devices so I have given a four star rating

I would much, much prefer to record a programme than watch it on the app - the free version at least. The app regularly freezes at the boundaries where adverts are inserted, usually at the end of the adverts before the programme restarts. It usually takes a restart to get the app working again. After navigating back to the programme, it is touch and go whether it takes you back to the place where it dropped out. If it does, you have to watch adverts again. If it doesn’t, you still have to watch adverts before you can start to search the programme for the place where you were before. If you cross an advert boundary, you have to watch more adverts before you can find whether you are at the right place. If you are not then more boundary crossing and advert watching are required before you get back to the right point. Having restarted watching, if you have not lost the will to live, it might freeze again at the next advert boundary. The whole merry-go-round can start again. I think this has been the situation for some time . Goodness knows how the app attracts a rating of 4.6 out 5.

Works well for what’s there, always manage to watch my shows.

What could be improved:

- you have to connect to the Internet to start up the app. I paid for the subscription in order to download shows to watch offline when I don’t have any Internet connection, so this feature is pretty restrictive and defeats the point for me!

- would be good to see some +/-15 second buttons to easily scroll back and rewatch something you miss. Trying to drag a slider to go back a few seconds is no easy task

- when you download a show but then hit play on it, the default behaviour is for it to stream rather than play the downloaded version. It’s cumbersome to go to your downloads before you hit play, it would be great if the app applied some logic to play from downloads where possible.

This is the worst and most frustrating app I’ve ever experienced for live tv. Trying to watch the six nations rugby which is not appearing on the itv TV guide, and it does not appear on searches for ‘six nations’ or ‘rugby’ - it also tells me that live tv is not available in my location (Um... England), yet shows me other live shows on other channels. The ‘help’ service is utterly useless: as I try to make sure my account has my location registered so that I can watch the rugby, it tells me that this can be done from “settings” in the app - which it cannot (you need to separately go on your browser, log in there, and then go to your account settings from the browser). Then when I confirm that my location is correct, nothing changes as regards the England rugby match not being shown in England.

This is completely inexplicable and enormously frustrating. A complete waste of time. Calls for some form of negative star rating.

I would like to see the next episode pop up sooner, and a better mix of adverts rather than have the same couple showing.

Also, when using the follow on episode, you are instantly hit with another advert, plus, I find that if it looks like I still have a little of one episode left to watch and try to ‘resume’ it goes back to the start of that episode instead. This could be due to the auto-logging out of the app when my device is locked, or after a length of time, but it would be good to open the app to where you left off. I can’t always watch one thing in one go, so would find it easier to carry on as mentioned. Alternatively, perhaps a pop up suggesting the program and place you last viewed would be a tap away from resuming that viewing.

Overall I like using the itv app, adverts apart.

I hadn't used ITV Hub for months and now I remember why.. If you try to resume a programme you've started watching it inevitably goes back to the start and shows you several minutes worth of adverts. After which you try to skip to where you think you might be in the programme and are shown several more minutes of ads. Oops, not skipped forward enough, try again.. more adverts. You can honestly spend 10-15 minutes watching adverts just trying to resume something.

Or if you try to rewind something you're watchimg - adverts. And the other day every time i tried to fast forward or rewind (after the adverts) the sound kept cutting out. I had to reset the whole thing. Not worth the time or effort.

To be fair, ITV is just another channel 5 now so there's VERY little worth watching anyway, unless you're brain dead and want to watch other brain dead, silicon infected people in various degrees of undress.. 😄
