If I could I would have given it 4.5 stars.

Really good share dealing app, better than the other 3 or 4 I’ve used before.
The only reason I’ve not given it 5 stars is that it’s not lightning fast (that could be down to my connection or device) and there is a lack of clarity of the difference in ‘Cash value’ and ‘Available’.
Other than that: 10 on 10.

Where are the Live and Current prices??

It’s an Ok App, but frustrating that Live prices aren’t available immediately from 8am in London. Yet log in to the website and you can see the live price. Also why can’t the App display todays latest price on some? Again I can log on to your website or the London Stock Exchange or other share websites and get an updated price, yet in the App it says the price shown is “last business day” or “not a current price” the “most recent we have”. If the data is available out there and the App can’t display it then clearly there must be a technical API or backend connectivity issue that needs fixing. Please investigate!!

OK app

Rating only the app with this review :
Fast and bug free, however some key areas of improvement would be needed
- dark theme
- no way to get overall asset allocation by account and in total
- no YTD performance which is very needed, online 1d, 5d, 1,3,6m, 1y 3y 5y 10y
- not displayed if performance is price or total return
- gilt pricing for dealing does not work on the app so you need to access the website or Cal to deal.

Good, but HL-centric, not customer-centric.

The HL app is generally great. Love the new user interface/font tweaks, super easy to see my balances and it’s now much cleaner and user friendly. Thanks for that!
If Id make any suggestions, id say that I’ve never once used any of the tabs on the bottom other than “accounts”. I open the app to check my balances and trade. For example the price of platinum gets a lot of space when I do not, not plan to own any platinum. Who’s using the app to check platinum prices that it needs to be so prominent for all users? Also it always kinda seems weird the app doesn’t log me in or default to “accounts” when I open the app - again we go straight to the value of the Xetera DAX and the price of platinum on the markets tab.
There’s also no easy to provide feedback on the app, which is kindof strange given how customer centric HL are!

Much better visual layout in version 10.7.0

Thanks for improving the layout of the watchlist display screen. Much better!
I have one minor request. I primarily use the HL app to view my watchlist. I only have one watchlist. It takes 3 clicks to get to the watchlist. Could you add the watchlist to the context menu that’s displayed when you press and hold the app icon. Or perhaps provide a setting to default the display of the watchlist screen when the app is launched?

Great App but could be Better

I love checking my portfolio on HL but there’s a couple of things that would be brilliant if they could be included. First, I purchase US shares and in doing so they’re in US dollars. However, without referring to my contract note I can’t check the share price I bought at and all I can see is the total price (in £) and number of shares. Second the date I bought the shares would be nice to see (not shown anywhere) as it’s always nice to know WHEN you purchased them. As far as I can see there’s room to include these 2 bits of info which must be there!

User friendly but...

My only bug bear is I tend to trade in £100-£150 amounts and each time I buy/sell there's a £12 transaction fee - it adds up - had I known this, I probably would have gone to Nutmeg.
On the plus side, it's easy to use and research on companies.

Latest update is worse.

Old and outdated.

The app is old and outdated. Also unable to get live stock prices at times - what’s the use of a share trading platform without live prices.
mew5master
2023-05-24

Missing key functionality

The app is missing calculation of aggregate in-tax-year capital gains or losses total for the funds and shares accounts.
This information is key for proactively managing the capital gains position, particularly in view of the halved allowance this year and a further planned halving of the allowance next year.
HL can and do this calculation easily, rather than forcing its 1.8 million customers to have a go, where they are certain to get it wrong.
For instance, you may invest monthly into 10 different fund for 7 years. You may then sell £8,000 of each of your fund holdings, a total of £80,000. What is the associated gains or losses?
There would be 84 purchases of each fund at different price points. Associated capital gains or losses is virtually impossible for customers themselves to calculate, while they have to demonstrate 100% accuracy to HMRC.
HL should provide this information, in the same way it produces an ex post tax year income report. Except that for capital gains or losses, an aggregate in-year figure should be provided at the top of the page for funds and shares accounts, right next to the total balance.

I access the HL app virtually daily, making around 40 trades per month for my SIPP, ISA

HL App is improving

Logged in yesterday and the new polished look/feel of version 10.5.0 immediately struck me. Two requests:
1. Stock graphs have indecent (2-5s) latency, look at Yahoo Finance App’s graphs for responsiveness performance targets.
2. PLEASE bring back iPadOS. “ii” and all other banks run on mobile AND tablet, it’s just so nice to be able to use the spare screen real estate.

Ridiculous log off time

Spend literally moments reading a fund fact sheet (the basic level of due diligence an investor would undertake) and BOOM logged out again. It’s a nuisance to use this application in a practical sense, especially when I need to pre authorise trades with my employer at the point of dealing. Review left from a top tier asset manager.

New update makes the app shows one stock in 3 lines!

Can you please revert or provide a functionality to show on a single line for one stock? I used to be able to see more on my screen real estate. The latest change has made it such that only 2-3 shares can be viewed on a single screen as a single share now takes 3 lines!
There is no way to provide feedback so am leaving a review here.

Great and past issues ironed out

I’ve found this app incredibly useful to monitor my SIPP and ISA and to make fund purchases and sales quickly and easily. Would really like to see an iPad app as well rather than having to use an iPhone format on iPad. One useful addition would be to be able to filter transactions by Funds Added by date, rather than just, Sales, Purchases or All. That way I could quickly check how much I’ve contributed in a tax year.
(Edit) Realised that I can view Cash Subscriptions (Funds Added) in a separate section under the drop down menu. So, well done HL! The only thing that might add to that would be a grand total, net and gross at the bottom of each tax year.

First impressions

New to HL, imposed through my new work place SIPP. Intention is contributing and periodic partial transfers out to main pension platform managed elsewhere. Having just set up the app & online account, though, have to say initially really impressed. Very user friendly pitched at exactly the level I want to see. So much so that set up a managed fund stocks & shares ISA, incredibly simple. (Many) previous providers have made this an impenetrably daunting proposition. Full marks for this.
Appreciate that many of the reviews herein moan about techy widgets, buy/sell fees and up to the minute reporting precision, but tbh as an old chap not too far off retirement, don’t really care about that. Funds set up, nice and easy to monitor and access, unlikely to be doing hobbyist tinkering.
Proof of the pudding though; it’s all about performance. I will be benchmarking and re-review accordingly, watch this space…

Some flaky maths!

The app is pretty good at showing instantaneous share and fund prices and for dealing online, even using a phone. However, the portfolio valuations and/or daily changes can be inaccurate. For example, I have had a daily change in cash that is significantly different from the reported percentage change that day; it was not possible to establish which, if either, was correct. Similarly, I also had an occasion when there was a very large daily loss (>5%) reported for the portfolio as a whole, when just about every share and fund rose in value that day!

Misplaced orders(double) due to app error

The app is rubbish and honestly I am not joking… I regret putting my ISA, SIP and wife’s ISA in here. I chose them because of so called spotless reputation.
The problems are many, the app is sluggish, little functionality compared to other apps and worse of all transactions can give errors that result in miss placed orders. Plus their so called “top customer service” won’t even acknowledge this problem if because of them refund me the unfair fees that are resulted from this app issue and apologies…
So here is what happened to me…I place an order but I got an error and got prompted with retry button. Did click that at 16 seconds apart(their support told me this time) and the order got done twice. One confirmation email immediately and one next morning.(that shows again they are all over the place). It’s very bad because this was a all of my cash and it’s a big sum that I wanted to use later. No one would do twice the same identical transaction(because you get charged twice) I tried to argue at least to refund me the fees because it’s obviously their app problems that resulted in this. I am not sure if I will complain to FOS in UK because they need to change behaviour.

Better than its peers

The app is great for most tasks to review and manage the account. Improvements I’d like would be the ability to transfer cash between accounts (ISA, fund and SIPP, being able to view dividend history for at least the prev year and better valuations for ITs - the daily loss/gain bears no resemblance to the previous days close and seems to change without any price movement. Graphs showing performance of portfolios would also be nice

Fees are far far too high

There are too many better options that do not charge the criminally high commission fees HL do out there on the market to stick with HL. Almost £12 every time you buy shares and I just found out today when I went to sell some shares, they charge the same again to sell! Absolutely outrageous. They add 1% on top of FX charges too. I was already using a different platform my mother recommended to me that lets you buy and sell shares FOR FREE (and allows you to buy and sell part shares AND added £89 worth of free stock when I joined which has gained 12% growth) and will be transferring my HL portfolio over to this platform too. Oh and to add to all of this, HL’s “live share price” has a 15 minute delay 😂 terrible terrible. I wish I’d heard about the alternatives sooner. Burning money would be slightly less terrible than paying any more HL fees.

Great way to manage your investments

Really, after years of poor investment flexibility with other pension and ISA providers, this app from HL shows the rest what they need to be doing to be in the game at all. No longer is financial management some dark art, where they take your cash and tell you once every six months how your investments are doing. This app gives investors the ability to take back control of their investment portfolios.

Remember card details!

Hi, love the app, ease of Face ID and the data provided on each of my positions. Would be nice to easily see the historic changes in value and cost by portfolio or individual holdings.
Main thing that bugs me is having to type in my card details every time I want to top up my account.
This should be an extremely easy process, just tap your preferred suggested card and enter the security number like any other app or website, or allow Apple Pay. Puts me off or prevents me from adding money unless my card is around but I use it so rarely nowadays with Apple Pay it is often buried at the bottom of my bag somewhere.

Top Dog company!

I admire (and welcome) HL as a British company; I find the service, and dealings therein, to be wholly professional, and (more importantly) my experience of dealing with HL over the phone to be reminiscent, to this old man, if days gone by (i. e. pre internet, pre “Bot conversational exchanges “) Don’t get me wrong; I am in no way a Luddite, I embrace this age of artificial intelligence, and see the immense use for human application, but there has to be, with all change, a lingering aspect of continuity for people to feel comfortable -especially older ‘coffin dodgers’ like myself, but there always will be a need for human to human interfaces where problems are concerned (sadly, something that is overlooked by the vast majority of companies, in my experience!)
I’m of the mind that if I saw another company that was offering trading costs at a fraction of the costs I incur with HL I would simply smile (possibly at my recognition of the little nugget of wisdom that resides within my baldy little head), and say to myself, “nothing’s broken, move on”.
Keep doing what your doing, HL, and I’ll do the same.

Everything You Need For Savings & Pension

I’ve been using HL for the last 8 years
I started by opening a SIPP and saving for retirement, I was able to consolidate all my old pensions without any problems. With no experience of investing I followed the guides and utilised the info available.
I decided on a draw down pension at 56 and haven’t looked back, I also have an isa with HL and my family have all followed my lead with SIPP, ISA and help to buy ISA
I have never had any problems with HL and cannot recommend them enough.

Great safe place to invest.

For investing this is a great app. There maybe costs to trading but for the pease of mind knowing your money is safe is fantastic I have been using it for over 4 years now and it has only got better in this time. Now and then they take suggestions on how to improve the app and so far I have see some of them implemented. There is always more that can be offered within the app but it is also backed up by the web site that links up. Only down side is I wouldn’t look to this if you are a small invest most buying and selling costs are at close to £15 so £100 down on a stock will cost you 30% to buy and sell. I say £500 is a good minimum.

Touch ID Far Too Unforgiving

Sometimes before turning in, I just want to view my account balance, it's not asking a lot, and for whatever reason my first attempt at Touch-ID access isn't successful but unlike other apps I'm given no opportunity to try again. This is disgraceful if not abusive. The unwelcome four step login process that follows a failed Touch-ID process truly drives me bonkers. I don't have this problem with any other serious financial app. Given the upset I think two stars is generous. Also, the above made me think about other things too, the difficulty of understanding exactly how some one or two of the displayed data is calculated for example and what I thought was a very reasonable near free FOC service is actually quite expensive. I'm not saying anything about the bits of the app that work really well and the fact if not for the above I would give it 5 stars. This is because I've had a long day and now it must end without me knowing what's happening on my account. It'll be days before I give in to that abusive login process even though I know full well this reticence will result in missed investment opportunities. Fed up, NN XX.
Just typed a lengthy addendum and took a screenshot and itvwas gone. Really really getting fed up now. 3 days without straightforward access, I'm getting angry. Plus after 3 days the above is still not listed in recent reviews on the App Store.

I’mid you if a fan of HL but the charts won’t print. Eve if they did they’d be absurdly heavy on ink, as the graphics are massive blocks rather than lines. Sorry, I’m out. Back to the website. An update: worse still! I was hoping to use the website to print charts, and the app for execution. But if you’re on the website and call up a chart, it detects the app and sends you back there for the unprintable charts! So I had to delete the app altogether. Then, in the course of the day, I wanted to edit my watchlists to delete funds that aren’t trading any more. I couldn’t do this on the website, only on the app. So I had to load it again. Then delete it again. I hope things get better. Update again. I am now really annoyed. When you set up a sale on the website, you can set it up to transfer various percentages of your holding into other funds. Which is what I normally do. But if you click on ‘deal’ on the app, all it does is sell 100% of the fund, and go straight to cash. No preview of the deal. No splitting percentages. And no way to reverse it. This is the third time today that I’ve deleted this app.

Web site incredibly slow

It badly needs a refresh - interface is very tired. Come on guys you make a fortune- you can do so much better than this.. You don't even have dynamic charts for heaven's sake. Positives: customer service is pretty good although staff lack training. Eg.. Was given wrong information about what price I could trade on in a fund. To their credit they quickly reversed the trade and requoted in my favour!. Also you cannot ignore that they refused to promote the most successful find in the UK for many years essentially leaving many of their clients out of pocket (Fundsmith) ... What was that all about?. At the moment if Robin Hood was to come to UK it would kill them... Don't wait for this to happen- refresh your site now.... Sadly their only as good (maybe a fraction better) as their competitors& this keeps them in the game. AJ Bell missed a huge opportunity to go better (has dynamic charts) but logging in is a real pain - why?. Interactive is not really useable - withdrawals have to be by phone for heaven's sake- what's that all about?. Best interface on the market currently is Trade 212... It's a different kind of company but shows what can be done. Guys your living in the North of England & you have a hugely successful business but nothing lasts for ever. To stay ahead you need to innovate now...

App not ideal for holders of overseas stock

No matter how I view my US stocks, I can only see the price per share shown as USD, despite my purchase price showing in GBP. I can obviously see the % profit or loss, but it would be really useful to be able to see my opening price per share in USD, and my current holdings in GBP. Therefore, the ability to switch between GBP/USD currency views would be really sensible. It just seems a bit counter productive to not be able to see exactly how much my shares are in profit or loss based on the value of my purchasing currency without using a calculator and currency converter…

Does what it says on the tin!

Simple to use app. Info / charts etc available are basic but if you do your research & analysis elsewhere & thoroughly, this app is an impressively quick & simple way to check on your portfolio, add or withdraw money and place very prompt buy or sell deals at pretty good ‘best prices’ too. Yes there’s a fee to pay but it’s small for such a clean, clear & succinct service. All transactions on your account are instantly backed up by alert e-mails for confirmation so anything amiss would be alerted to you ‘real time’. I have used H-L for a number of years now & have no reason to even consider finding another service provider, hence my 5 star rating. I recommend them to family & friends accordingly. Nothing more to say.

It works okay but could be better

The app and the web service lack good reporting tools. It’s hard to see the trends on your own portfolio without deep navigation if you have quite a few positions. The service itself seams slow to deal in funds with orders sitting unfilled for too long allowing to much price movement. I am not sure if that because of HL or the fund manager’s themselves though.
On the plus side the communication and general service is good especially the help desk and the choice of funds is great. I have looked at other services but still prefer this one as it meets most of my requirements as the functionality is basically there for long term investment even if you have to dig about for it.

What’s gone wrong!!!

I have been using this app quite successfully for the past two or three years. All of a sudden I keep crashing out. Over the last couple of days when I log in, when scrolling through my shares, I get so far and then bomp, I’m back to my desktop on my phone. I notice that it was updated a few days ago and can only think that there must be a glitch. This is no good to me. I need access to my investments easily and now am finding that I can only get in on my computer (or the website through my provider ) but this is time consuming and no good if someone wants quick access. Previously, I would have given at least 4 stars but now for an app I can’t even access properly if I could give zero I would. Come on HL.

Great app but some prices not updating

Despite one or two niggles with non-Uk prices not updating, this is still in my view a far superior app to those by ii and ajbell (the only other platforms I have tried). The UI is handsome and intuitive and the developers have clearly done a solid job (with few of those horrible, lazy webviews). If they could fix the bugs around occasional ‘stuck’ non-Uk prices then this would be a 5 review. Come on guys you can do it!
Whenever I consider moving my HL investments elsewhere for whatever reason, my first thought is that I would miss their app. On the other hand I find their website slow and clunky, but that’s another review!

Best I’ve tried

In the last week I’ve tried to invest and one app stopped buy orders on a specific stock to save their investors that shorted it. It also takes up to to 3 business days to with RMT money.
The second app kept my buy orders pending for over ten hours missing the whole days trade and wouldn’t let me cancel either. Perhaps this was to save said hedge funds or they genuinely couldn’t cope with demand.
Then I tried this app and it just worked. No messing about. Yes, it has nominal fees but I’d much rather that than being unable to invest what I want and when I want.

A complete failure in customer experience and onboarding.

I downloaded and made an account . Had to wait 1 working day to receive the paperwork to enable online services . Fair enough. But when the letter arrived with my PIN I couldn’t register unless I had a client number . I had no record of receiving any client number so phoned the help desk to see what I could do to register and activate my account with this missing info. (I did notice it said if you can’t find it to give them a call) . I phoned twice and they were too busy to answer . In fact I am writing this review whilst still waiting for them to answer, confident that I will have plenty of time before or if they answer. This does not auger well for a first time customer looking to use HL for their existing share portfolio and to make transactions . If they do answer the phone I have now decided it will be to ask them to delete any trace of my details from their systems.

Good overall, not changed for a bit

It’s a good app overall with a lot of funds available, access to news and information and where you can see your portfolio. Obviously you need an HL account etc. so if you do it’s an essential tool.
Something I would like to see is an overall graph of your investments over time because whilst you get a graph of each individual fund and also your overall gain it would be nice to be graphed over time.
The gain/loss figures get weird when you sell a fund, the money gets converted to cash in your account, the overall percentage gain stays the same but the overall monetary gain drops even though the overall account balance stays the same - strange.

Zero contact app

I would have given this app 5* out the gates as it’s incredibly useful and simple to use. As a Sharesave customer perhaps the bar was set low but I really felt a lot of time and effort had been spent on delivering a good user experience. I decided to wait a month till I wrote a review and am glad I did.
Over that time I’ve sent 6 secure messages to HL through the app and had a response to zero. As this is a promoted feature of the app I find it stunning they can’t be bothered to respond. In fact three of the messages were about transferring out of ShareSave to HL so I can’t even say they’re only after my money. I’ll just say instead that customer interaction through the app is non existent and I’m searching for another provider who cares enough to communicate with me through their own preferred channel

It’s NOT up to it! 🤬

This app looks nice but is incredibly frustrating as is HL’s customer service. I’ve been using this app now for about three months. Know this...it’s infuriatingly slow, live prices are not live prices, especially if you are looking to buy and sell US stocks. Not only that, it’s unreliable, and from what I’ve seen on Twitter from other customers it’s everyone that’s having the same issues. Since I’ve been using this I’ve had a handful of stocks I’ve needed to either sell rapidly or buy rapidly, unfortunately the HL service/app on occasions stops working stopping you from being able to trade at all! I would suggest using IG, their app is very up to the second or quicker for all stocks allowing you complete visibility allowing you to trade without loosing money...and boy have I lost a shed load using the HL app. That’s the reality - sorry HL - you’ve a long way to go before this is fit for purpose.

Clean and simple

I downloaded the app to manage a Junior ISA for my nephew and it couldn’t be easier. Once I set up the direct debit to make regular contributions I was able to research investments, compare charges, make investments, make additional contributions and all on an app that doesn’t seem to have any technical issues. It’s comforting when dealing with a child’s future investment that I can use an app that has all the correct functionality and without any bugs or issues. Great all round

Really great app, love the UX. Some suggestions for the devs

This is a really great app. They really did think about the user experience as the flow is intuitive and presentation / visualisations make sense.
Highly recommend for others starting out in investment. I’ve used this app for years and it works well.
I do have a couple of suggestions, and I’ve seen the developers respond before so would love if you took my feedback onboard!
First, the ability to customise the information that is displayed (Day Change vs Total, and sort by x,y,z) is really powerful to monitor progress. I would love if you also added a “Total (Annualised)” return figure too to those filters. Should be an easy calc. If my stock returned 10% over 2 years total, would love to know the average annual return since my purchase.
Second, and I feel this is missing in the web version too. Would love to be able to see a chart of my overall portfolio return index, or even better, would love a HL API to do that sort of stuff myself (currently resorting to a selenium web scraper to track the info myself, bit of a pain).
Oh and please make sure there is enough server capacity during volatile trading periods. Don’t like being locked out when I want to sell in a hurry.
Thanks!

Exceptional personal investment service

Having been an HL customer for years , I have recommended your service to my family , my grandchildren have accounts , as well as neighbours who are looking for a safe home for their capital. This is about spreading the message about ISA ‘s if they are nervous about the volatility of stock market shares ....which a lot of people are .
Being local in Bristol is another plus point when one wants to discuss anything with one of your staff ..I have been investing for 20+ years , and your company is the one by which others are judged .

Zero knowledge needed

I took the plunge to start saving in stocks & shares just over a year ago. I had zero knowledge and after listening to series of “this is money” podcasts the message was “just do it” you have to start somewhere and don’t delay just because of your lack of knowledge. The platforms such a HL etc are as easy as pie to set up an account and with a DD you can invest each month and learn as you go. How correct they were, i’ve never needed any help as the App is easy to negotiate, contains all the info you need and you pick up knowledge as you go. Love it.

Extremely useful improvements

First impressions are that this is the best implementation so far. I like the speed in getting to my family's total investment values. It is great to have Reuter's news readily at hand. I expect you are working on incorporating facilities to match those of your main on-line site; I wish you well with that.
With both implementations I find speed an issue, both short term when I'd like access in fractions of a second and longer term, in terms of completing various types of transactions, which take days rather than milliseconds, and which can concatenate, to prolong delay. Things like multiple purchasing, sale, gifting and transfers, which can be involved in manual bed and ISAing. These can keep one out of the market for too long.
Still I'm a long-term fan and admirer of HL and warmly welcome the improvements you are making.

Good but needs work

I love the service but this app can’t compete with Trading212’s app, etrades or yahoo finance.
At a basic level, it needs a widget, similar to its competitors. Multiple widgets to track watchlists or portfolios would be great.
At a more foundational level the watchlist needs to allow you to track multiple positions in one stock. I can’t believe they haven’t added this.
At an advanced level they need to allow you to track the performance of all your managed portfolios and linked accounts in a single dashboard view.
Other than these 3 key points the app is good. It just doesn’t feel like it’s meant for anyone who’s just crossed past the beginner stages of investing, which in turn reflects poorly on their service as a whole.
You end up needing to use a second app/service to track your portfolio and watchlist to invest using HL, which is really disjointed.
For me it means that without certain functionality and more detailed views, I’d feel encouraged to move my investments elsewhere, which is a real shame as I like HL.
At a minimal level I’ve found that I’m less encouraged to increase my existing investments with HL because of how non-streamlined the whole experience feels.
HL team, if you’re reading this, please fix this. These aren’t difficult fixes and can really transform the experience. You’ll find you’d immediately turn prospective customers into promoters.

Review of HL app

This app shows all the details I wanted to have intended to produce from each bi-annual report but does it every day!
It has the simplest keyboard which should be adopted by Apple although both of them have dictaphones - except more time is taken correctingneither of them understand me. Furthermore, the letter length is limited for the system is logged out and lost, before one realises replies need a title to be saved before the letter is written.
Otherwise it is brilliant. It only lacks a map to show where various features are for it may take a week’s work on it before the operators knows ttheir way about it.

Not bad, could be better

Iv been using the app for w whole now. I like the simplicity of the layout. I’d like to see if there was a widget available so I can see my data when I’m not in the app. Do I could see data with my calendar. Also I’d like there to be a few more charts available instead of just numbers when I look on the over view screen. And a theme change. So instead of all white back ground it would be for someone like me who had difficulty reading black writing on white background. Other than that it’s overall, simple, effective and almost there with its design and layout.

Very poor app

Just looks good, but in reality very poor on implementation. Lack of basic features. Many things simply don't work. Everything is so confusing. They need a serious developer team and especially a solid proper designer and UX team of specialists.
App is big, but majority of functions are useless and/or don't work. Always shows issues with displaying data, but never in two year time started working.
Lack of info on stocks and bought positions. Just impossible to understand what you bought or why and where they taking you money. It's a joke!
Even their website is a bit better, but still super confusing, not clear where to track your positions, not giving any meaningful tracking of your investments on both mobile and web.
Just don't even think of using them! You save your self some precious time.

Better Portfolio Analysis Required

In general, this is a good App. Very user friendly, in terms of actually placing deals. However, a few additional features (similar to the HL website and competitor Apps) would make it so much better.
A few suggestions:
1. Better portfolio analysis is definitely required. For example, a pie chart to demonstrate the split in holdings within a portfolio would be useful. Likewise, being able to review the split between different sectors held within a portfolio would also be useful.
2. Reviewing dividend income is also better on the website. Including a similar graph within the App would be great!
3. Depositing funds to your account could also be easier, instead of inputting your card details every time (although being able to take a photo does help a little...)
4. Alerts would be great - for example, if a particular company increases or decreases its dividend payments or there is a major relatable news story etc.
Not too bad overall, however with a few adjustments - it could be great!

Good, but could be better

I’ve been using this app now for a few months and find it pleasant to use however it could be a lot better with just a few upgrades.
One of which is when adding money to your account, instead of continuously having to re input your card details have it so that you can top up your account using Apple Pay.
Secondly could this be developed for iPad also? I get that it’s main purpose is for on the go use, but using on a bigger screen with the addition of the above would be a game changer for me.

Very good iPhone App but no iPad App!!!

Review update:
Downgraded due to the removal of the iPad app, it was so much easier to login to and use the App than trying to login to the website on an iPad - very big retrograde step!!!
Original review:
The new app is a real step forward from a user interface design perspective. The addition of Touch ID is excellent. Overall very impressed, highly recommended! I held back 1 star not because there is anything wrong with what has been delivered but because I think there are areas that still need further development e.g. making it easier to view the Wealth 150 funds, by sector etc

Some Improvements, Mostly Good

I'm sure a lot of thought went into the design and testing. Ultimately it provides all the information and functionality needed when on the move - and more than the app previously did.
I don't think that the design team thought through logging on using Touch ID properly though. Similar apps are truly "one touch" when they use this technology, but several times the Touch ID has had to be re-set up on my 'phone and even then the previous system of typing in three of the chracters was easier. Now you open the app, tap to the right screen, tap again to log in. Why not - once Touch ID set up - just ask for log in on opening up the app, or go to log in pages automatically. I don't want to open the app for any reason WITHOUT going through log in to view my own account.
Otherwise it hasn't taken long to get use to it, and I do appreciate being able to order holdings in the way I want to view them and then finding that that view remains the sam enext time I log in.
Bit puzzled that we can get real time prices on a website - but cannot see it offered on app (unless I'm missing something)
Two steps forward, half a step back.
Update 1 July 2019: developers got back to me, having noted my comments on sign on. Also, advised me how to switch on Live Prices (which was there all the time, but not intuitive to me). Happy to say this remains one of my most used apps and pretty happy with it all round!

Oh dear

I have been with HL for some years now , used to be brilliant , until about a year ago . Firstly they changed the look of the website, dumbed down , I would say described it. They I noticed share prices were different between my Account facing page and the actual fact sheet , consequently the running totals were wrong. The app at various times of the day, showed different prices to the website as well as constantly switching between live and delayed prices. In fairness HL have on a number of occasions tried to help but I get the impression they can’t actually solve the problem . If you look back at some reviews here you will see the issue has been around for a while. Also check out Trustpilot and read their reviews on HL. Sorry HL can’t recommend you to anyone. Richard
Things in life ......

Very poor

The app simply doesn’t reflect the same information as their own website, even though it should be the same data source. Live prices are not always live, even though I have live prices activated and it’s indicating a live price to me with a nice green dot and message, but if I look on the HL website in parallel, I see the true live price, as do I with other non-HL sources
Same kind of issue when placing stop loss or limit orders. It gives you a message about price is x% above/below current price of Y, but the “Y” price it shows is massively outdated and sometimes it means its warning you that your stop loss has already been passed, but it hasn’t - it’s the app being out of time
HL refuse to acknowledge this and indicate quite abruptly that this issue is just mine, even though I’ve proved it with screenshots. The app should be an integral part of the offering and to tell me to use the website is just not a solution for people on the move. Given HL is expensive, their service and their seamless, working product should be what sets them apart. Now they’ve failed on both of those counts, coupled with their “it’s you” sentiment, they just lost my business to IG. Not that they will care in the grand scheme of things, but app developers and support functions should take note that you really can lose a client over things like this. They may think the issue is mine, but the business and 30+ trades per month are also mine to give to who I choose

Good but Causes CPU overheating

Functional with very few issues apart from a serious overheating problem in the CPU area of the iPhone 7 just below the camera lens. This happens after login on wifi and 4g/lte. With no other apps running and from room temperature the phone case will reach about 40 Celsius in about 3 minutes while browsing watch lists and portfolio. I use live price streaming and haven't tried it with this feature turned off. Exiting the app and killing it in background brings the temp back to normal in about 2 minutes. The last version also did the same and I was hoping for a fix. I will continue to try and reliably nail down the exact circumstances as it doesn't happen in all parts of the app but once the temperature starts to rise it doesn't stop and the battery percentage falls at about 3% per minute.

Average app.

App works well but compared with other apps is a bit basic given the amount of money they charge per deal. I end up having to login to yahoo and Bloomberg to check financials since most of the stocks I’m this app have all the financial data without any info. It’s also very confusing to see the price we paid in pounds and watching the stock price in dollars. It should have an option to show everything in dollars. The news section for the stocks also has very outdated information about the companies. Apart from these topics o use the app daily and is good for a quick buy/ sell on the go.

Unreliable

Currently some corporate bonds in my watchlist portfolio are showing massive losses despite achieving gains. At other times the share prices have no relationship with the prices shown on actual pages and I have missed out because of this. News and broker tips etc show up very late in the day with retrospective times of posting (e.g. Articles that have just materialised are said to have been posted hours ago. This seems to be the same with the website too). The crashing problem of the current phone app has mostly been fixed but not totally. The problem of watchlists failing to match reality appears to be known according to HL staff but not fixed. The previous phone app was far better especially the graphs. Competitor apps offer far easier and informative chart detail. I suspect that this was a GCSE coursework task done by Year 10.

Dreadful app

As previously reviewers have noted you cannot trust the prices displayed to make a trading description so have to log into the website (the price displayed on the main page almost always differs from the price quoted when entering a buy or sell price when attempting to deal). Also, pending transactions sometimes do not appear in the relevant section leading you to believe the transaction has taken place or it does appear and you try to cancel it but it doesn't appear to cancel but actually does). This misinformation has cost me several thousand pounds due to thinking a pending trade that I wished to cancel had already executed when in fact it hadn't. This app is not fit for purpose so use it for trading at your own risk. I have rated it one star only because Apples rating system does not allow zero star ratings.

Great app - add performance comparisons please

I use this app a lot - to check on the value of and buy and sell my investments. I like the touch screen log on and the features to sort and display various valuation and performance options. It's a shame the app doesn't allow one to display (at the same time) all the things the web site does (purchase cost, units held, value, price gain today, total price gain) but I guess that's difficult on a smaller screen. The only thing missing for me is the ability to compare the performance, graphically, of more than one fund at a time. This is a feature on the web site that would be nice to replicate on the app. It would be nice to compare the performance, say, of all my Japanese focused funds with the index and also with the top rated fund in the sector.

Some basic usability things

Better than the old one which was awful and the Touch ID is quick for valuations. Main gripe is that a lot of it has not been though through for small screens and older eyes. The date of last update is something like red out of dark blue which looks cool for is barely readable. Black out of white with same font would be ok. Also the prices and not live which given that I can get live prices on google who I pay nothing seems odd. Probably more of a general HL thing but sometimes funds are updated by 8pm and other times it takes until the next morning. Should be easy with links to the fund providers.
