Sizes and styles

Over past 3 years in modernising and equipping various rooms in our house we have purchases TVs, Fridge, Kitchen Table and Chairs, Lamps, Table and Standard, Shades, Coffee and Side Tables, Framed Prints, many more and new iPhone and Air Tags…+ other miscellaneous items Xmas Decorations etc too numerous to mention. Products have always been excellent and equally importantly, Staff/JL Partners have also always been first class in every sense, knowledgeable, meticulous and helpful..plus after sales service 5* also. In summary, top quality in every respect-if JL has what we are looking for, we would go nowhere else!

Requires a higher software version

Most companies allow for users who do not have the latest kit to use their lower version apps still. John Lewis is requiring IOS 17 or higher, while I still have a perfectly fine older iPad that wont upgrade that high. I guess that means not purchasing from John Lewis going forward.

I don’t like it when I am searching online and all JL links automatically open the app. It’s a particular pain when I want a product link to send to someone else. Sharing links aren’t intuitive to me in the app.

I bought a wool scarf in the Trafford centre store as a Christmas present and wanted to buy one

Kingston Branch

I was very delighted and thrilled to see how busy it was in JL Kingston yesterday. People are choosing to go back into the store which is so encouraging. It shows how people want interaction with staff and products. To be able to touch and feel the quality of what one is buying. The only problem I found was finding staff to help me. They were hard to find and I saw customers leaving the departments because they didn’t want to wait. Some depts were void of any staff: children shoes and adults shoe dept for example - and it’s half term! When staff appeared they were brilliant. Well trained, very polite and helpful. My pregnant daughter was with me and needed to sit down and there were few chairs. (Unless you are in Furniture Dept) otherwise a good experience. JL please employ more staff.

My Go To Store

I like the design of the website. It is clear, informative and easy to use. Thank goodness for JL. When I go to our local John Lewis Store staff, though noticeably not as many these days, are well informed and extremely helpful which enables me to make a decision about a purchase. I have to confess I like to see and feel products before making a purchase. I will be regarded as being old fashioned, but I think this approach is less wasteful and certainly less time consuming.
When I order online, I like the choice of collection, or home delivery. I feel safe buying from John Lewis. I want quality at good prices, and that is exactly what I get shopping at John Lewis. Items are always packed well to ensure they don’t arrive broken. I like your efforts to be sustainable eg reusing packaging etc.
I feel we must use British firms to ensure they remain relevant. Pursuing cheap, cheap , cheap does not bode well for our future.

App crashes & cannot access advent rewards!

FIX YOUR APP - crashes are dementing & prohibitive! Worse is that the app says it’s up to date yet i cannot access ANY of the advent rewards… well done John Lewis - cut off great swathes of your customers; AND terrible attitude environmentally! Arguably prejudicial too… & terrible customer service. All means your app is USELESS - not working at all… just permanent message saying something went wrong. Retry” … tapping “retry” just seems to refresh the same message! App store says “needs ios 17 or later” … settings of phone however says ios [15.8] is up to date!!! come off it jl, please fix!! Or at the very least allow us to UNupdate back to a functional version… or you lose our custom. “Never knowingly undersold” - not so impressive given you’re cutting us off!! Shame on you.

A bit of a trial …

When I got onto page of what I required the hoovering machine I wanted had got a wire attached to it, the last one was cordless, has anyone not thought of health and safety an upright with a lead hanging from top could have you over..
I have had to go back to a cylinder cos at least we know where the cord is …
Why is everything so difficult to do I’m of the more Senior Generation and finding my way around checkout was a bit of a nightmare for me, (my daughter usually does the ordering on your group for me) why couldn’t it be delivered to my home address cos nowhere I looked would let me find home address only for paying grrr, never mind order placed hopefully it has worked out ok …

App descriptions now missing dimensions

I’m typically a big fan of the JL app however almost all of their furniture and homeware listings no longer show any dimensions of the items? I’m assuming this is a recent update but it makes absolutely no sense and is very inconvenient. How are you supposed to decide whether to purchase a large item like furniture or a kitchen appliance when it doesn’t tell you how big something is? This seems totally illogical and I’m sure they’re now missing out on sales because people are pushed to other websites to find out size dimensions for mainstream brands and then just complete a purchase elsewhere. If it’s a John Lewis branded item, I just wouldn’t purchase it because it doesn’t tell you the size anymore. Please fix this for future updates!

Changes for the worse

Great app, have used it for years, but lately they’ve stopped adding product information like what the garment is made of (cotton/polyester etc), or how tall the model is and size they’re wearing, which is something I check when buying certain items. Also getting incredibly frustrated with the pop ups on every item you view, “this many people viewed”, “this many added to baskets”, I really don’t care. I just want to see the product which I can’t because your pop up is in the way! There’s no need for this pop up, it just wastes people’s time.

Retailer getting it right

I find this one of the best retail apps out there! The search menus/filters make it easy to choose a specific product, full of information regarding products and useful photos. Wishlists are executed perfectly and My John Lewis provided limited perks but does work well and the competitions are so easy to enter. Orders are easy to process and payment is flawless, including the delivery selection and collection options. I also really appreciate the order history page clarity and access to in-store receipts to track purchases. My only suggestion would be to offer more in-app support such as a live chat or telephone number without having to get redirected and filter through the website.

Keep getting thrown out

Love John Lewis and the app but it is the only App I use that keeps throwing me out. When I’m searching for something to buy, I add all the filters, get half way through looking at the selection and then suddenly the app throws me out. I then have to start from scratch. Sometimes I give up after it’s happened a few times. Seems to be when there’s a large selection of items available or I use more filters. Also, I just tried to use Apple Pay to buy something and the same thing happened..it threw me out of checkout. Also, if something is out of stock, I receive the push notification saying product now available which is great but it’s already sold out even if I click on it straight away. I’m hoping more will be available but maybe there’s a supply issue. No option to be notified again so maybe it won’t be restocked. Apart from this it’s a great app, great ranges, good price point & fast collection available :-)

FAVOURITE STORE

Since becoming disabled I now frequently use the app to shop, having the parcels sent to Waitrose Bayswater for my carer to collect. The confidence in knowing that I can return easily is a huge relief especially in clothing because I’m never sure if a medium or large will be suitable. When my carer collects items they can also do some grocery shopping at the same time. I find the app a pleasure to use as is ordering and checkout. If I’m being taken out then it is to John Lewis Oxford Street where I can do both personal and food shopping before an ice cold champagne at the wine bar. As I am mostly bed bound this gives me a lot of pleasure.

Poor service

Bought Samsung tv with 5 year guarantee that broke in guarantee period. Phoned up got date for repair which was an all day appointment. Repair engineer came ordered part and booked repair. Waited in all day for repair then got phone call 3.30pm to say could not get part so could not repair it ?. We were offered a cheaper different make tv or a gift voucher which was less money than what we paid for original tv. Also been given a 3rd all day appointment to pick broken tv up. So going to be 3 days taken off work plus multiple phone calls wasted for a tv which John Lewis says they can’t fix. Trying to contact customers services to see if they can help.

My favourite store

John Lewis and Waitrose. What would we ever do without them. It’s not often these days where the customer is always right, but John Lewis is a welcome exception. The staff are always friendly and go the extra mile for you. The stores, and I’m including Waitrose as well, are always spotless and welcoming, and the Christmas decorations at John Lewis are second to none . Easy to use yet disappointing

The app is fairly easy to use. I had a voucher in the rewards which wasn’t so easy to access. I assumed (which I know I shouldn’t) that the payment method would allow access to my rewards and vouchers. Alas no. I now know I need to copy any reward codes before I get to payment area. A little annoying as I had to come out of my almost complete basket payment page, find the voucher which wasn’t easy as a first time user, then start over to get to the payment. It felt as though the company didn’t really want me to access the vouchers they gave me as an incentive.

Shocking service

I ordered a bed and side cabinets in Oxford store in 19/11. Staff super helpful and told that I would be contacted when both were in stock for delivery. Approx date 1/12.
Received text message on Friday to say ready for delivery but when I rang the number they were vague, not sure, didn’t say what problem was so anticipated that it was a scam and hung up. I tried to ring the store on the number at top of order but no longer in use and asked to dial another number. This took me back to a call centre type response and wasted another 10 minutes whilst the call handler kept putting me on hold. Eventually gave up.
I have now ordered the items online and arranged delivery myself which is great but having made the effort to visit the store etc it seems counter intuitive. I could have been tempted just to buy a different product elsewhere and JL would have lost a £1,499 sale.

Shopping Dresses on line

Tried to shop on line for 3 dresses this morning.
Got through to the final payment, went to my credit card company(happens also to be JL) - to verify transaction; but nothing sent through to credit card company. Tried as number of times.
Fed up - then tried calling customer services to do it via telephone. Made four phone calls.
Ist one the other - JL -person put the phone down.
2nd time the JL service person’s English was so bad I couldn’t understand her and she didn’t understand me.(My only language is English).
3rd time asked to speak to a ‘Manager’, the JL person also with poor English was unable to understand me. I curtailed the call in frustration trying get myself understood.
4th time my wife tried - also to no avail, poor understanding of English.
Went back online 5 hours later and low and behold it all worked. I did nothing I hadn’t done before.
As a loyal JL customer for 50 years I am very concerned that John Lewis is going to fold and disappear when the service is so poor and the online ne service is not on a par with it’s competitors.

Always a pleasure when dealing with John Lewis

Just ordered some Xmas gifts and was looking for towels for me. Unfortunately all the towel sets had one item missing so kept cancelling rest of the towels.
After I paid I found out I had also paid for just 2 hand towels. Just a 2 minute phone call and they have cancelled towels and started the refund.
Same in store the staff are just so helpful especially on the kitchen utensils section where I bought a number of Le Creusant items but never noticed the coffee maker had a little black spot on so I bought the wrong colour. Again were really helpful explaining the orange coffee maker actually had a yellow sticker, they were not out of stock. Same lady served me three times that week and remembered me. How do they do that

Credit Card issues

Trying to pay using the stored credit card transaction failed twice. Called my card issuer (35 minutes waiting to speak to a human) who confirmed that the JL app had not presented the payment to my card issuer. In desperation I cancelled the stored card details and started again. Still failure. So finally I paid via PayPal (linked to the same credit card). Everything went smoothly and with no delay - unlike the JL app, which needlessly caused me to waste 45 minutes I could barely afford on a wild goose chase. My card issuer is First Direct - a well established bank. JL please improve!

Tour services is shocking you can only order one item when I needed two, so I have to what to reorder one More iPhone only to be told WE CANNOT PROCESS YOUR ORDER having phone 4 times to short this out your customer care team have no i dear what they are doing and cannot tell me WHY this is happening. My bank have authorised the transaction by app to proceed with order but you at John Lewis keep sending my the email WE CANNOT PROCESS YOUR ORDER.I have a number of times to order iPhone 15 pro, but in the end I have gone to curry’s. Smooth shopping experience

I went into John Lewis Cambridge to return an unwanted gift and look at mattress toppers while in the store. The gift returns process was quick and painless. I was given a JL / Waitrose gift card in exchange, which was fine by me. I went up to the floor for mattress toppers and found a large range of samples together with a very helpful assistant who explained that the one we liked had to be ordered online. When we got home I used the link that the assistant had emailed me to locate the exact item. I simply included the gift card as part payment, added the remaining amount and the all was done. I just need to wait up to five days for the free delivery.
A hassle free pleasant experience. Thank you John Lewis.

Buying good, customer service’s shocking

I’m not going to go into details but when I telephoned customer services I explained that when checking my order status, the order didn’t exist. I was told to contact my bank. I asked if there was a reason for the order not being completed and the female said JL rejected payment. Then surely if JL rejected payment then its JL I would need to speak to. The female said, and I quote “ this is customer service, I’m sorry you don’t like it but that’s what you have to do, so I’m finished with you now so that’s the end good bye” and hung up on me. Wow! I’ve since been contacted by CS manager and I’ve left him to deal with it as they seem fit. I really hope they do record conversations as they warn us of.

Gorgeous things at your fingertips

I simply love john john lewis. Every thing they sell is first class. There is only one problem, I'm spoiled for choice. There has never been a problem if iv ive made a wrong choice in sizing. I simply send i back in pristine condition and im refunded super fast. Its very helpful when people leave a review as it often helps in the decision i make. I have the app and its so east to use i enjoy looking at all the luxuries pieces and can often treat myself to some. As long as i stay within my budget. Im super happy and cant wait for the postie. For me buying on line is rare, so when I got the notification it was in, great, go pay, collect or delivery, collect, normally you have a selection of places, so phone c/support, asking if it can be delivered at the store, as I’m going help, answer someone will call you back between 2 and 6, it’s only about 1, but you can, but no address, then I’m thinking , delivered, I can charge it up and take it in, phoned back to cancel the phone back, I was then told collect in store, they will charge it and talk you though it for £5 ,fine,go to pay, the phone back calls, can i help you,checked with her, and payed. Put it out there so you can see it,and make sure everyone knows the script for those who don’t. Kevin

Good but so annoying

I really like the ease of use….can merrily browse and pop thinks into you basket, BUT when you get to the till, more often than not (more so for sale items) your shopping basket has been robbed!
Such an annoying feature. If I was in the store and put something in my basket and 10 mins later was at the till, I expect the items to still be in my basket. Not so online, in your basket seems to mean nothing until you go to the checkout. Happened so many times puts you off shopping on the app.
Please JL, sort this out and at least give your customers a chance, if it’s in my basket it should be held for me for a certain period of time, otherwise you go round in circles, finding a replacement item only to find a different item in you basket has also now been swiped and no longer available!

Easy Shopping

Luckily, I live very close to a Partnership store where my John Lewis orders can be delivered to and collected from. An easy service to use with helpful and friendly partners.
Gift, clothes and home shopping has never been easier. The range of brands on offer provides more choice than my local town centre so I am aware of the quality of everything before I see an item; haven’t returned anything due to quality reasons.
Next day delivery, free for a spend of £50 plus adds to the sense of an easy shop, to my local store means no missed deliveries or carelessly left packages. I enjoy the security this service offers. Returns are also easy and reliable. The parcel taken back to the store a little bit of admin and an email to say your return is being processed. Refund normally hits bank within seven days.
Christmas shopping even easier. Browse the store and add to basket. Leave in basket overnight, just in case. . ., then continue to checkout when ready. Email to confirm purchases. I find this a great way to budget. Amount I want to spend planned then basket adjusted as necessary; perfect.
A great service, quality brands, easy website, delivery secure, returns simple, refund’s reliable.

Enjoying the app, more than instore

Sad to say the Peterborough store closed. Therefore I was really looking forward to shopping in the Cambridge store last Saturday, when there was a promotional day. The service or lack of it was dreadful. On a
number of occasions sales assistants were nowhere to be seen. Firstly I asked an assistant where the Erica Davies collaboration coats were, yes they were on display, looking great, no VM to indicate they were the coats! No, they were not nearby either. I mean that’s common sense to me place the goods near the display, or am
I missing something? The assistant said she hadn’t seen them on the shop floor either and said there might be some in the stockroom she wasn’t sure. Then we wanted to buy a lipstick from Hourglass and there was nobody manning an impressive concession. We had to ask a very ‘overworked’ young girl who knew nothing about Hourglass as she was from Le Labo! She hadn’t had a break, clearly exhausted and did her best. What’s gone wrong? If you have a promotional day- throw everything you have at it! Over-staff the event, give great Customer Service. Not everyone likes buying on-line. The bricks and mortar stores are your best asset JL, we were disappointed. 😔

Loving John Lewis but…

Really disappointing to see new styling of website, the John Lewis green colour was so distinctive and has replaced with an unattractive beige. Items are displayed like bargain basement products. Information about the product is lower down beyond alternative products. It’s visually unpleasant and messy. Why change a thing that was so good! It looks tawdry and doesn’t tempt. Even cheaper stores like ikea look elegant and tempting and are super clear about the product information. You compete with the white company but their website makes their products look so much better than yours, and yet you have many better products- it’s a shame you display them so unattractively. We customers want John Lewis to last another 100 years so please get your act together!

Lack of service

Been a John Lewis shopper for years. On Saturday and Sunday their app said my cards were not good. Called. Waited 12 minutes and finally got someone. Was putting in my order and then asked for my £5 off discount she told me that was online. Told her online was not working properly and she hung up on me!!! Nice service!!! Put my order thru this morning. Seems they finally fixed their computer system. But when you have a big sale weekend there should be someone to take care of computer errors and not have to wait days!!!

Intuitive, aesthetically pleasing, and makes shopping fun

Really like the seamless design; the website is clunky and for some reason has trouble loading on both my laptop and my phone. The app is much easier to navigate and the product photos are sharper and truer to life (basing this on the photos of the Egyptian cotton towels, where the colours show up very differently to on the website, and the app’s images of the ones I own look much more like them than the website’s). Btw this is the first time I’ve reviewed an app (or thought about whether I liked it and why£ so you must be doing something right!

Store Stock check is useless!

With significant number of items unavailable on the website, which given the unbelievable decision to close the Aberdeen John Lewis store, is the only way we can shop there, I checked store stock level. I then thought I was phoning the store directly but was put through to Customer Services instead. Despite it showing on website that almost 20 stores had at least one in stock, I was informed that this item was no longer available in any store. Why therefore raise expectations only to dash them when you can’t order after all? Surely it is possible to provide accurate information? Once again my continuing disappointment in John Lewis is further confirmed.

Love John Lewis

Every angle, stretch, possibility, size, colour, and purchase is a satisfying experience. I have been a customer for decades, and I have always been pleased with their very high standard of service and products, also, the ability to adapt to various situations, ie changes in fashion, pandemics, shortages, trends and fads. Whether you buy in store or online, with delivery or Click and Collect, it’s fast and easy. Returns are one of the best trouble free experiences I have experienced. ( It can be quite a nightmare and stressful believe me!) I hope I will have John Lewis in my life for many more years to come.

Easier to use the app than negotiate the “all new” local store.

Easy to use website. Good quality products. Not totally sure about the Anyday line. Worried that it may be poor quality as there’s a huge difference in the prices for similar items. Just as an aside, I went into a John Lewis store for the first time a couple of weeks ago since the beginning of The first COVID lockdown. I nearly had a breakdown. What have you done to the Cambridge store? I couldn’t find anything. It’s all moved. Too much makeup space. Usual routes blocked off. I left completely shattered and even then I struggled to find the way out. Change is not always good. It looks like a trashy supermarket.

So simple to shop 7yrs worth of receipts

I have had this app since day one along with the John Lewis reward card. I find shopping so easy on the app via iPhone or iPad and as I have a reward card all my receipts are stored since 2010!!! To look back and check on items when ordered, make and model and order again or check warranty’s is fabulous. Ordering for collection has improved no longer need to drive to Waitrose in next town as local Coop is now a pick up point. Love the option of being emailed when something is back in stock and love the option to save favourites to refer back to when planning room changes.

The closure of John Lewis Peterborough store

I like many many other people was shocked & felt betrayed that the Peterborough John Lewis store did not reopen after the COVID-19 lockdown having only just had millions of pounds spent on refurbishment. My house is full of items purchased from this store from furnishings TVs clothing Christmas items carpets curtains bedding holidays perfume makeup etc as is the case with many other people I know. I dislike intensely bring forced to purchase online & for most items have taken my business elsewhere I am saddened that we no longer have the option of meandering around our store purchasing items that I hadn’t gone in for I guess our beloved John Lewis no longer values it’s loyal customers.

Reliable, fast and secure

Another quick purchase facilitated by a good website and easy navigation between the goods on offer and the checkout.
JL were great when an item which proved to be faulty, was exchanged without quibble at the Trafford Centre in May of this year. Customer after sales services has been exemplary and the reason why we return to JL time and again.
Please reinstate our free coffees and cake as our monthly rewards though.... it used to encourage us to travel for nearly an hour to our nearest store and after our “treat” we invariably made purchases!

Edit: disappointed you stop supporting older phones, some people like to keep using their perfectly functioning products while they still work perfectly well. However it was a great app when I could use it, please, please help Boots sort theirs, how have they got it so wrong!!
This is a great app for browsing and shopping on your phone, it is quick to search, compare, select and buy products. If only Boots and Harrods had the same quality app I would purchase from them more, but their apps and websites are so slow I give up in frustration. The John Lewis app is a pleasure to use which is helpful during this pandemic.

Navigation could be improved.

Would like to be able to see the contents of my trolley whilst shopping for additional items as sometimes I end up with two of something in the trolley as I’ve already added it once. Also when you get to checkout and you have forgotten additional things you would like to buy there is no way out…you have to press the back button, abandon the trolley and worry what information you have lost. In this case I had to re enter all the gift voucher information. I was actually worried it would say I’d already redeemed my vouchers because I’d keyed in the information once but fortunately this didn’t happen. Far from ideal though as it does put you off going back and adding extra items = lost business I’m afraid John Lewis!

Seems so easy… most of the time, but….

Easy to shop with JL, as long as the items in stock in the warehouse. More challenging I’ve found if you buy remotely from a store, when the warehouse hasn’t any stock. In one recent incident I had to purchase from a store and they failed to wrap the item well enough and it arrived at damaged. The only way to return it was to visit a store… that’s a 50 mile round for me! All because a store sent me my item, but didn’t put it a box, as apparently stores don’t have boxes to pack items in. So whilst shopping with JL is usually easy….there can be a hiccup.

Absolutely useless app and crashing all the time

Update to my previous review I’m getting a message that it needs IOS 13 to run. My iPad tells me my software is up to date Your app says I can download an older version I can’t!! You don’t listen to feedback. I can’t use this app I’ll take my business elsewhere. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! So frustrating!!!!!!
This app is one of the worst online shopping apps I have the misfortune to use. To be honest I only use it because it’s too far to visit a store and I can collect from Waitrose, but it's far too slow to load, extremely clunky and annoying to use.
It’s only the fact I don’t have to go to store that I continue to put up with it.
For crying out loud invest in some decent IT and sort it out.

Fan for one hot mother!

The high temperatures here in Northern Ireland have been breaking all records, hence I have been melting! My daughter lives in Edinburgh and kindly said she was purchase me a fan and get it delivered to Northern Ireland. Although the fan she wished to buy was ‘sold out’ on line at your website a friend informed her that John Lewis run a scheme whereby you complete a form and various John Lewis stores are searched for said item. Well it worked like a dream, your Newcastle store had the fan and 2 days later, I was in possession of my new best friend! My Mr Meaco! Cannot thank you enough! YOUR WEBSITE

I have bought items from John Lewis online since your company saw fit to close our local branch. Previously I had no problems with the site but it is rubbish now. You really shouldn’t have let the Managing Director‘s three-year-old kid redesign it. It is much more difficult to navigate.
I was looking at bras and on some of them the sizes were not in order but were all over the place. I nearly missed the size I was looking for (36GG) because it was not in order. There were 34s with the 38s and 30s right down at the bottom.
I have also been looking for towels and the whole site is not user friendly. It looks like someone was trying to make it arty-farty and failed by a country mile. Please go back to the excellent site you had previously or reinstate a John Lewis store in the city as we now have no department store, and nowhere to shop. Chichester has a department store but it’s a bit of a drag to go there to shop.

Online shopping review

For all positive purchases- very easy . Only thing I was unsure of, which has now been clarified with recent transaction. Was I had a gift voucher given to me . However the item I purchased was not suitable. But was over the price of vouchers so paid part card . Card transaction was credited. The other amount a mere £3 was credited to my account. I had no way visible to see this credit on my John Lewis card details on the app , or anywhere I looked. To my pleasure the amount credited to my account was taken off my recent online order. It’s such a shame this wasn’t easier to see . Especially if the credit was a larger figure. Enough said , other than that, very easy .

Good but needs improvement

In terms of high street shopping apps it’s one of the better ones, although most high street apps are pretty terrible.
There are several minor things that I think need improving but I’m not going to list them. I will however note my big gripe which is that of the filtering and sorting functions. Now I personally don’t want to see out of stock items(although I can see why some people would) but what frustrates me is that you select to not see out of stock items and then change departments where it resets so that you see all items again. Similarly sorting had the same problem, you place the sort parameters and change departments and have to change it again. There does not appear to be an option to default to these and Its just annoying.
There is potential to be a great app, I just don’t think it’s there yet.

Bad service for an order

In plenty of time (fortunately) for a birthday present of Apple AirPods. E mail states that these were sent out for delivery on 29th Jan. On Feb 8th I got an email stating that they were being refunded. Why?
I spoke to a pleasant chap at your service desk (his home probably).
I await the refund, but in the meantime I have had to reorder and to avoid the same thing happening again and the present not getting there, the recipient now has to go and collect his present from a nearly nearby store in Highbury.
so, although I love John Lewis and support at every opportunity, I am really unhappy with your system that has a massive glitch in it.

Love John Lewis! But need to package breakables better

John Lewis is one of my favourite online stores - great choice, easy shopping, fast delivery etc. But a few times when I’ve ordered breakable items (glassware, crockery) it’s arrived broken. The JL customer service for this is amazing - no quibble replacements but if you package stuff better in the first place you won’t have to replace things :-) I had a ceramic Orla Kiely breadbin arrived smashed, then the replacement the same issue. Third time lucky! Then 6 Royal Dalton beer glasses - all 6 were smashed. Replacement was fine. Had some Leon plates delivered, one was missing so they were rattling around in the box but remarkably, not smashed. I had a Waitrose garden plant pot arrive smashed too!
Can’t complain about anything else though, JL is fab.

Normally good but!

I like John Lewis and use them for electronic purchases for their 5 year warranty.
This proved useful as my 3 year old tv broke down. I notified tech support and they elected a repair company who deemed the tv beyond economic repair. I was ages and I mean ages 1hr 42 minutes to be precise on my last call, waiting on the phone for someone to answer. It was 10 minutes to 9 pm (they close lines at 9) and they couldn’t help.
I had made some 1/2 calls previously before calling again early in the morning. Got a refund which I’m satisfied with and have ordered another new one.
4 stars for keeping me and I’m sure many others waiting so long for “customer services”.

Unable to update offer

I ordered a laptop with a 2 yr guarantee and the next day got an email of offers including that this machine now had a 3 yr guarantee. I immediately phoned and after some time holding was informed that this would be passed to the customer service team who would call me back. The laptop arrived, left up opened. After 5 days with no call back another call, again helpful immediate person, who said I should have had a call, and helpfully suggested I stay on hold while they followed it up. Eventually they came back and confirmed my only option to get the additional year guarantee was to return the laptop and reorder it. I have done this, which will include a trip to the post office, and another delay and delivery. Seems like a waste of everyone’s time and resources.

Fab app and kitchen drawer idea is perfect!

I love everything about this app and I especially love the kitchen drawer idea! No more looking girl receipts at home or accidentally arriving in store with the wrong receipt! It’s all saved in your kitchen drawer ready when you need it!
App is super easy to use and unlike some other apps items don’t disappear from your basket if you happen to have to leave them for a while and go and do something else. We all know how irritating it is to have to start the shopping all over again I’m sure! In fact sometimes that puts me off entirely and I give up. The JL app is one of the best out there! Well done

Terrible Outsourced Customer Support

When going into a John Lewis store you meet the knowledgeable, kind, considerate staff we’ve come to expect, this is now meaningless as any problems (if you can’t get back to a store), or you’ve purchased online, you have to be deal with the terrible outsourced ‘customer service’. These people are rude, lie about your statuary rights, do not do what they say, leave you to chase & chase, and feels like they’re all reading from a script - all designed to avoid giving you your money back when something has gone terribly wrong. Might as well be replaced with robots for all the humanity and care they show. I recently purchased a Neff electric oven & Neff 2 burner gas hob - both were absolutely useless, flawed, poorly designed and built - and the online support were trying to blame the problems on me, how I’d used them, or I’d have to take up the fight with Neff. I did eventually get my money back, but with so much hassle, pain and exasperated anger that I will now no longer shop at John Lewis. It’s not worth it. The reason for shopping at JL was the customer service, now it’s gone - save yourself the hassle. Shop elsewhere.

Not Compatible with iPad 2

If I could have given this "updated" App zero stars I would have but it seems this is not possible. Why zero stars? Simply because it doesn't work on an iPad 2, in fact you can't even download it as it would seem that it's not compatible!
Let's start at the very beginning. On opening my old John Lewis app I was advised that there was a new version available and I should update it as my present app did not take into account my marketing preferences, whatever they were?.? So cleared the decks by deleting the old app then straight to the App Store to download the super revised updated version. That's when things went bad - on attempting the download a pop up message informed me that this new version was "incompatible with this iPad" !!!!!! Great, thanks a bunch techies - ever heard of beta testing? It's what we used to do in olden times to ensure a product WAS compatible with all flavours of the generic hardware and OSs. So now no John Lewis app any more - old one deleted and new one incompatible.
If you have an iPad2 don't upgrade although by the time you read this it will probably be too late.

Terrible search and filters

I use this app regularly but hate the annoying issues with search and filters. You have to be incredibly specific with searching items. It doesn’t bring up ‘close to’ items the way other apps do. Also when you go into sections such as girls shoes boots and trainers, you end up with about a third that are boys. Frequently end up with out of stock items when you select ‘only in stock’. You also seem to get a weird selection of filters- like for instance you can narrow boys shoes boots etc by colour or style - but not size!!! You can spend 20 minutes going through filters then looking only to find they have nothing in that size. Often can’t select by gender either in certain things, such as if you’ve gone in via offers. Really really poorly performing app and not getting better. They seem to be working on developing new features such as whether things are available in store, rather than getting the basics right. M&S and Next apps work much better and more smoothly.
