You put your destination in and the maximum amount you’re willing to travel and it still shows ads that are hundreds of miles away when you’ve put in a maximum of 10 miles!

Terrible rating system, full of time wasters
Needs a total overhaul. It feels dated, notifications aren’t great, it’s glitchy, the rating system is pretty useless and it encourages masses of timewasters. If you want to sit in the house waiting for no shows 5 times before you get someone show up, use Gumtree. I’d recommend Vinted instead.

Stop notifying me to sell an item
Do you know when I get a notification and I open it and it takes me to the sell an item screen? I’m more likely to delete the app than I am to post something in that moment. Which is exactly what I am doing now. Please stop this ridiculous practice of sending notification that go to the sell item screen.

No option to delete messages.. and no intention to do so..of all things not to have..
Swarming like a plague of locusts with time wasters and imbeciles, maybe this is the price you pay for getting something for free.. The amount of messages I get on a daily basis for my ads asking “Is this still available”, only to never get any further response when you reply with yes..
As soon as you give your mobile number to these crooks expect to get bombarded with dodgy text messages, and daily cold calls from Indian call centres asking about outstanding vehicle PCP/finance or some other nonsense.. God knows who else they sell your data to.. Try it yourself, sign up with your number and a made up name and watch as the calls come flooding in, they won’t identity check you anyway, such things are alien concepts to these types of outfits.
Developer replies to low star reviews are clearly written by bots, some third world scrubland office, or some sweet talking PR stunt person tricking the algorithms into thinking it addresses customer concerns but never actually does anything meaningful.. meanwhile the developers themselves continue to kerb crawl round Monaco in Ferraris.

Major issue with reviews
May 2026:
I've increased my rating as I can see there's been more and more improvement and bug fixes. Unfortunately, I can't add a bank account to receive payment because "go to 2FA" button is broken and doesn't do anything no matter how many times I press it. Also we still can't change the email address on the account which is not ok in 2026. And still no way to report and have negative rating that were clearly abusive removed. I have abusive 1 star reviews just because I didn't agree to sell items for peanuts from buyers who sent me insulting messages. They took revenge to my simple "no thanks" answer, by leaving multiple 1 star reviews on listings that didn't even result in a sale because Gumtree allows anyone who messages you (including scammers) to leave a rating after sending only one message.
May 2025:
Users are being allowed to leave 1 star reviews even though no transaction happened. They're doing this out of spite because I am selling a base for £35 and they haggled hard, I offered £20 but 2 of them kept asking for £15 which I wasn't ready to agree with. As revenge, they left me with 1 star reviews. This needs to change as it's borderline cyber bullying.
Early 2025:
Notification for new messages still doesn't work after many years being a problem. Also when editing an ad the text selection is white against a white background so I can't see what I'm copy pasting or selecting...
Late 2024 Update: I changed my rating from 1 to 3 star as the app has improved a bit, this and the rediscovered independence of Gumtree away from eBay and Adevinta is quite promising.
Early 2024 Update: New redesign is actually worse than before. Reposting expired apps used to be possible at the touch of a button very quickly. They've made it an excruciating pain to do so now. Whoever was leading the redesign should be ashamed. The old gumtree app was bad. This is so much worse to the point where I will have to stop using the app altogether.
Previous review: This app is so buggy. Gumtree is owned by eBay which should have the cash and skills to make an app that works. The profit clearly only goes into the pockets of billionaires shareholders because this gumtree app is a pile of hot garbage.

This app never works properly.
I never get notified about messages. There has honestly not even been one single occasion where the app has successfully notified me about a message. By the time I know I have a message from a buyer, they have lost interest. I have checked the settings several times and I have all notifications switched on in-app and in the settings app, but it just doesn’t work.
Browsing never works either often and loads a blank page even after restarting the app several times.
Even when it does work, hardly any if the buyers are genuine. Most of it is just bots and spam.
This app is a total waste of time. Every time I use it, I regret it.

The most completely useless selling website I’ve dealt with. There are genuine sellers and far too many time wasting “buyers” they take your address, name and mobile number and pretend to arrange a time then they fail to turn up. This website is a play ground/work office for fraudsters who take your name address and number to resell onto scam companies or full funding money using your name and address. Do not bother selling on here . There is no complaints policy, no rules, no admin and no protection for sellers. I sell better of Facebook marketplace. Go there! Avoid gumtree nothing sells. Scammers take your address then don’t turn up instead they use your address to sell on to other cold caller companies or to pull funding and use your name/address to boost funding money from gov/lottery etc

A review system that allows non-buyers to damage a seller’s reputation, with no meaningful support
I’ve just deleted my Gumtree account after more than 15 years of using the platform.
Over that time, I paid for featured ads, kept my account in good standing, and built up a solid history of successful transactions. I always dealt honestly with buyers and sellers.
What finally pushed me to leave is Gumtree’s review system.
Gumtree randomly invites potential buyers to leave reviews even if no transaction actually took place. I recently had a person leave negative feedback simply because I wouldn’t lower my price to what they wanted. No sale happened. No agreement was made. They were just unhappy that I didn’t accept their offer.
I contacted Gumtree support to explain the situation, assuming this was an obvious flaw in the system and that they would remove the review. Instead, the helpdesk refused to take any action.
So after 15+ years of being a paying, responsible user, my account reputation was damaged by someone who never even bought anything from me and Gumtree wouldn’t fix it.
That was the point I decided to delete my account.
A review system that allows non-buyers to damage a seller’s reputation, with no meaningful support to correct it, is fundamentally broken.

Rarely All Working Coherently
Update: Now I can no longer search for (e.g.) all bicycles, within 10miles, under £50. Neither on the App nor the website now. That’s surely a simple, everyday type of search? Please, please, please, roll back all the messing about with the search function - it’s infuriating poor now!
Classic case of all the attention going on a good looking but poorly functioning app and the mobile browser version appears forgotten. Favourite searches have never worked on the app for me. I can see my “saved items” but always get an error if I try “saved searches”. If I respond to “new items found” emails, it launches the app then tells me my searches can’t be found… Originally it fried my battery, but admittedly that seems to have been cured. Currently it only sporadically remembers my location and search parameters. Every time I search a different category I need to put in my postcode and distance limits, this gets very tiresome. However, sometimes if I change my search parameters it then changes to these new settings on all the new “saved search” buttons on the Home Screen. Frequently I find that there are more contact options available for a seller on the website - the option to text or call etc. So it looks pretty slick, but the user experience is unpredictable and often lacking.

Problems With Messagings
I’ve found the app has real issues with the messaging feature. I rarely get notifications when I receive messages from people and it’s unclear sometimes whether my messages are even sending. I’ve always kept the app updated too. I’ve had issues with a person leaving malicious feedback also, something I reported at the time. I recently contacted Gumtree regarding this, again, however due to it being over 30 days they can’t change the review anymore. This has definitely not helped me selling things. Upon checking the users account, it seems they do this to many folk too. It’s a shame that Gumtree won’t support sellers as much as they should.

The last straw
I'm deleting the app and my account with this shower of useless idiots. I have lost four recent potential sales because either the messaging doesn't work properly, I'm not notified when someone messages me (all settings are correct before anyone pipes up with empty advice) or the app or site just doesn't operate remotely adequately.
The number of dead end enquiries is incredible. My replies must be echoing in the cosmos somewhere because the potential buyer certainly can't hear me. They can't all be time wasters so I'm levelling the blame at Gumtree and their pointless site and app.
Currently the homepage is showing multiples of the same listing. I only hope the bloke selling the one double bed can lay his hands on twelve more because that's what's displaying right now.
It's pointless setting a mile range on your search. They go by the method of the inebriated and numerically challenged crow. It's so moronic I can't get my head around it. From north east Scotland I was getting results for Belfast and Dublin with a hundred mile distance.
Even deleting the account wasn't straightforward. Clicking 'delete account' kept taking me to a search product page. The actual OPPOSITE of what I was trying to do. Several attempts later, I think it took. Apparently I'm waiting for someone to get in touch to complete deletion. Cue incoherent dribbling and a tidal wave of drool.....
This crowd shouldn't be put in charge of paperclips. There'd be a major fire in no time. That's how useless Gumtree is. Well done everyone and thanks for nothing.

Awful service and rude communication
Gumtree have quite possibly the rudest customer service I have come across and now have added a new data collecting function that is detrimental to advertisers on their platform. They charge a lot of money for adverts and now people can only view contact information if they log into gumtree. They did not notify business owners of this and are constantly closing adverts and keeping money without huge battles. I have jumped through hoops as a business owner and even had my advert closed down as they said a potential client tried to cyber hack my account. So rather than coming to me and telling me this, they just kept taking my money and not telling me and refused to give it back. I have another friend on the platform who has had similar issues. They now put their needs for data over their paying customers out of greed and it no longer works for us and many other businesses. When questioned they are extremely rude, refused to talk about their changes and refuse to give paying clients their money back which is rightfully theirs. Please do not use this platform as the people that own it are not very nice people. Dealing with multiple agents has shown this.

Stop the harassment of unwanted notifications
Ive turned off search and updates notifications on purpose i only want notifications about messages yet despite doing this for some reason you keep re-enabling these notifications and it's really annoying... i specified the notifications i want because i don't want my phone clogged up with irrelevant pointless notifications... im a type 1 diabetic so have many notifications from my medical apps and having to try and keep up is challenging enough without irrelevant gumtree notifications too... I've adjusted these 6 times in the past couple of weeks and you keep turning them back on... why bother to even let people turn them off if you're just going to turn them back on?

Great in theory
Gumtree is a great idea which is spoiled by two things. One is a really unreliable app. The other is people. For some reason there are an array of people in this world who have nothing better to do than make enquiries about items and arrange collection, but then not turn up. Or, simply make blanket “Is this still available?” Enquiries and then not respond when they are told it is. Perhaps it’s just the most extensive auditing system imaginable. Sadly, given the number of ads which is see reference it, I suspect it’s just “time wasters”.
I can only imagine the joy they must feel when they turn to their imaginary friends and exclaim “You’ll never believe what I’ve just done … 😂😂😂 I just asked someone who has advertised an item, if it is still available!!! 😂 and now I’m not going to reply 😂😂😂😂”

Update - Fail
Big fan of gumtree and my go to for buying secondhand and selling but this new update is a thumbs down from me. The old version had it quirks, new messages didn't show up all the time, scrolling was a bit glitchy sometimes but the new version is even worse! When scrolling all I see is spinning circles, you open the advert and more spinning circles and can't see any pictures, takes ages to finally load, it's really annoying and off putting. I'm on 156mbps at home and this app makes it feel like I'm on dialup. Please fix. Not a big fan of the layout too but sometimes new updates like this can take time getting used to.
Edit. It's getting worse! Now doesn't remember my location and have to update it pretty much every time I open it even if I've only been off it for a few minutes, no longer notifying me of messages, I pick them up in my email. Sometimes I start typing a search in and press go it searches something completely random. I'm seeing even less listings too, maybe people are giving up using it.

Messages to sellers or customers take too long to come through customer service doesn’t exist .
And scams still here on gumtree.
You just want to post your add locally and not get people wanting pay pal account details or postage when you want the local area to be the ones you sell too due to local pick ups or collections .. come on gumtree workers it’s 2024 and thus app and settings really needs to be safe and with the current times … you obviously all get paid due to theamount if adds you sell and people that pay to put ip adds so please do your work .. also if you get a very rude customer come to your home take item in there car without paying that’s happened then as I reported this person to the police they write a horrid review .. have gumtree ever been ever been able to availability to talk to on the phone no so I have up and left the nasty review up even though the person stole from me .. so please all we want is simple safe local selling to let the love go round

Why can’t it be easy with photos?
The Gumtree application works more or less as intended but I am here because there is one thing that is important (and easy to implement) and it seem like it was just ignored, cobbled together and sent out just to have the app on the store and bringing in the “electronic feet” through the door. I wanted to add photos from an album I saved called… ahem… “Gumtree”. I click “post” chose to add photos from an album… and I can only use photos from the main library. Why??????????????
Update: I got a reply from the developer which is always good!… I realised that the app may need a tweak on the image side but not as bad as I thought. It takes ages to open my library as I have a lot of photos (I have a two year old 😅). But it does eventually. So, the way it tries to buffer the image or library can be changed to be faster and, when choosing a library then try to buffer in small batches (say 10 or a bit more?) I am adding a star to my review to a 3 (could be a 3.5…)

Issues with logging in
For the last week I have been trying to log into my account, it keeps telling me it the wrong password or email is wrong, I changed my password and it still said the same, but I can log in on my laptop with the same details, customer service said they couldn’t do much more without seeing a screenshot, so I sent one and heard nothing back except and automated reply telling me to delete the app and download again…. Which I have done several times,I have been using gumtree for years with similar problems, but thinking of deleting for good, customer services was suggesting it my phones that is at fault, and won’t let me change my login email address I need to delete and start a new account, so when I go to sell people with think I have only started selling when I have sold many items

July 2024 update has made this horrendous to use and a total joke
The update in July 2024 has totally destroyed the gumtree app, it’s no longer easy to use, it’s never right on the map, it’s impossible to find a category, before category was last and easy to do once the title was in, the post a advert screens are a total joke and impossible to use or see easily. The app before the July 2024 update was excellent this update is a complete joke if I could remove the update I would. The new look is not eye friendly or user friendly. You can no longer copy text from your ads that you reuse each time, you can no longer preview your ad to check for errors, the bright white interspace is awful and makes it even more difficult to view. When Looking at my ads and you tap a ad to check it it takes you to promote instead of the ad - it’s is shockingly bad. The app was working perfect before the July 2024 update what on earth are gumtree thinking by making it horrendous to use! I wish I had a alternative to use because I would stop gumtree IMMEDIATELY after the July 2024 update.

What the hell have you done?
This app used to be okay, it wasn’t brilliant, but at least it worked. I was notified there was an update, and along with all the other updates for my device, I updated. Now I have an awful looking app that doesn’t even show things from my chosen location! I live in the Highlands, and the best I can get the app to show is Highlands with a distance of 1 mile. And this shows me ALL OF SCOTLAND! Not what area I want. Why are people so obsessed with changing things that work just fine and making them more difficult and pointless to use. Everybody Stop It! I have deleted the app from my iPad because it is just awful to use, and I mean awful. I have contacted Gumtree about this, but it would seem that they don’t care about this, and haven’t contacted me or changed anything.

Update … Gumtree now asking for my “case reference” 🤣 they must be totally inundated with complaints. Every, and I mean EVERY TIME I’ve tried to sell something on that site I’m inundated with the same messages time and time again from the same person obviously with a LOT of different accounts. Have these idiots got nothing better to do? I can’t even get Gumtree to delete my account even after asking TWICE and being presented with the same email response asking for personal details before they will remove. So I sent the info yet they did nothing! So I asked AGAIN and received the same email requesting the exact same information I’d previously sent a week earlier! They honestly have not got a clue what they are doing. Go ahead and join if you want your personal details all over the internet but I personally will not use this site again, this is my second attempt at giving them the “benefit of the doubt” and both times I get screwed! NO MORE GUMTREE, your antics will be exposed sooner or later …. Maybe see you on PANORAMA eh!!

An ok app but malfunctions literally after 2 days of use
The app is generally ok to use (as a seller, I’ve never bought from gumtree). Easy enough to list and add pics and descriptions etc. There should be the option to add video at some point - either on the listing or in messages, I’ve been asked by people for videos but can’t send or post them anywhere. Most importantly though I’ve had to re-download the app twice and still can’t understand why messages just randomly glitch- both mine and buyers messages show on the left hand side as if they’ve written all of the conversation, notifications of messages won’t go away, opening the conversation won’t mark messages as read. So so annoying. I downloaded the app for the 3rd time 2 days ago and the same thing is happening again.

3-when clicking on a sellers item and it shows they have other items for sale why can’t you actually make the link to their items ACTUALLY WORK ?
So, you lot get 10 out of 10 for completely and utterly wrecking a good app, I hope you’re pleased with yourselves because at this rate more people will leave and start to use other apps which have better usability , better service response and lo and behold an app that ACTUALLY WORKS !!!

I never been so frustrated in my life
I usually never write negative reviews but this time I just couldn't. I have never been so frustrated in my life. I tried to sell a laptop on this app and I thought It might be a good idea to save up some money since there are no fees if you sell it on Gumtree. Well, It could have been a good idea if my ad would ever make it to be listed. I constantly had my ad removed every time I tried to adjust the price or change the description of my listing. I had to write to support every time for them to make my ad live. And when my ad made it live I wasn't able to send messages to potential buyers since there would be another restriction here, which is the most frustrating part. After hours wasted talking to support they would tell me that my account was blocked by accident. Eventually, they will unblock you until the next time you try to adjust the ad. And this circle would start again.......

What has happened, Awful app
I’ve regularly used gumtree for years for everything from cars to rentals, tables and chairs or even a lawnmower and it was brilliant. Now for the past year or so, maybe longer, it has just turned into the worst app on my phone. It doesn’t work, it freezes, it crashes, it shows me things from either miles away or doesn’t understand my distance set and shows me things only on my doorstep. I persevered and tried to get around the issues but then it started randomly logging me out when it crashed and now, no matter what I do it won’t let me log back in or even reset my password. ‘Invalid user id’ is all I get. So I, like many others by the sounds of it, have had enough. It’s time to give up and not bother with gumtree anymore, the for sale ads are getting less and less anyway now so it seems like most people aren’t bothering anymore either. It’s a shame because as I said, it WAS a really good app and website. Help page is no good, Customer services are no good. Time to give up!

Scammed
Last year I used gumtree to to see if I can find somewhere to live. I was very surprised to find that quite a few people contacted me and I was really grateful to gumtree for this. However I was scammed by one of the people and they turned out to be a really nasty individual. They even threatened me after the scam and it really unnerved me to think that someone like that could get away with it. I did contact gumtree regarding this and wondered if they could try to have some security measures to protect future people as there are some nasty individuals out there. Unfortunately gumtree did not get back to me and I felt very disappointed as I had always thought gumtree to be a decent company. I am just warning people to be wary when advertising certain services because they might attract or for individuals that think it is okay to scam people. Just be careful and stay safe everybody. I wouldn’t want what happened to me to happen to anyone else.

Fraudsters Dream land
I find it amazing an app and company who’s primary purpose is to allow the common person to sell products to complete strangers has no platform to report attempted fraud. Nor is there any method to report specific accounts that have contacted me in an attempt to commit fraud. Upon looking online at Gumtrees advice, is to just contact your local police station!
How about you create a platform for us to report accounts and attempts of fraud so these people can’t continue to use these accounts without persecution or bans. I have the same add on 3 different platforms out of 9 cases of the same scam 8 have came from Gumtree. That’s in 24 hours btw so I’ve decided to just delete the add. Kind of tells you this app and company have a problem when it comes to security of its members and the honest people genuinely trying to sell an item.
In short if you plan to sell on gumtree be very careful if you are scammed it’s very unlikely you will receive any help.

Scammers delight!!!
Scammers are in heaven with gumtree and gumtree even sell personal data like your mobile number cause the second you post something on there within 5 minutes you will get a spam call from those you was in a crash and we can help you claim compensation callers and then you get bomb barded with messages on WhatsApp and through the gumtree app itself claiming to be Ill and have serious health issues and they can't collect your item in person but they will send a courier to collect and pay you through PayPal or even bank transfer then they proceed to send you what can sometimes look like a genuine letter to people who aren't that clued up saying once you've sent the items and they have proof the funds will be released but obv as we all know by now there are no funds and it's just part of the whole story and scam I dnt understand why companies such as gumtree cannot filter out these scammers or at least once they've realised there are scammers on there network to then shut them down but it's almost like gumtree likes it!! Anyway rant over but if I was you I wouldn't even bother with the app it's absolutely rubbish and you will most certain get scammed out of your hard earned money and products STAY AWAY!!!!

Need to see reviews
This app is great. I use it ALOT but one thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t show reviews unless you are on the website. I have been stood up my soo many people and when I go onto the website to look at reviews I see that other people & somethimes myself have given them 1 star for not showing up. App chat also doesn’t show if you have previously spoken to them.
I wish there was a way to block people for being time wasters so I wouldn’t have to deal with them again.
But other than the reviews not being visible on the app I enjoy being able to give my items a second life wether it’s for cash or free.

My review to gumtree CEO / OWNERS.
My review about Gumtree is based on approximately 9 years of usage. As I have recently complained about the new updates been made to the iOS iPhone app especially. After days and days of detailing the problems to the customers service / tweeter feed. I would get excuses after excuses after informing them Time after time. The Tech guys are apparently to blame I was told as they were trying to fix not only One problem but the whole "thing" Thus making the iOS app useless until now ( hopefully) My main question is.. Why keep updating the app as they say.. If it ain't broke why... Fix it or Anything at all ?? This is not the first time this has been happened. My solutions is easy. Plan your updates in Advance ( Well Advance ) Get the Best Tech guys Money / Gumtree co.. can afford. As it seems the Tech guys used ain't up to standard. At least to a Big business like Gumtree. Why skimp out.?? I've think someone like myself could have done a better job getting the problems solved than these.. "Paid .PROFESSIONALS " It's not rocket science really Is it?? JH..

Pot luck with sending messages, poor info on how you can sell (aka ton of scammers)
Half the time I’m unable to send a reply back to people interested in what I’m selling. I get “400 Convers returned error” & the message doesn’t send. Defeats the point if I can’t sell my items.
Also there a load of scammers asking if they can deliver & pay for it online. Gumtree doesn’t have any facilities. The FAQ on the website is poor in explaining. It mentions for example PayPal can be used but not how. Gumtree doesn’t have any integrated online pay system like eBay. That’s not how it’s meant to work. What I think Gumtree is actually saying is that if you want to arrange an online payment indirectly you can. So if you get someone going down this route ignore them. I’ve seen very convincing webpages looking like gumtree website & even the address being convincing wanting to send the money but it’s a scam.
What gumtree can be good at is, a quick ad & quick local collect or delivery of the item.

Too Many Timewasters!
The app works fine, the problem I have as a seller is the “buyers”. For every item you list, you will be bombarded with the dreaded “Hi, is this still available?” messages... You have no idea which “buyers” are genuinely interested in your item, and which ones just like pressing the button to send an automated message, so you have to spend time sending messages back to all of them. In my experience, you will be ghosted by around 70% of them at that point. Of the remainder, about half will try to make low offers, or ask you to deliver, or will be scammers (I always insist on buyers collecting items to help minimise the likelihood of being scammed). Of the few who actually get as far as arranging a time to collect an item (in my experience) more than half do not turn up. It’s SO frustrating and SO time consuming! I think the issue is that because all messages are sent anonymously, many “buyers” don’t feel any responsibility and don’t care about wasting other people’s time. From now on I will just give low-value items to charity, and I will use “a well-known auction site” for anything I wish to sell. I might have to pay fees, but I’ll save a lot of time!

Very happy but not to the point that I’m desperately seeking accommodation and almost lost over £1,000 to a scam landlord who’s still on GumtreeUK as you email me warning after money nearly deposited into his account but I got more professional persons to carry that out and detected the scam after. So who’s gonna repay what was handed over before and why are you still allowing this fraudulent person named John who today could be Peter and why have you not taken action and as paid with visa debit card it’s gone bank cannot get it back snd surely you have some duty of care to users who get used and robbed and don’t still have a home

Clumsy, slow and apparently no memory!
• Firstly, why do I have to look at a splash screen for four times as long as it takes to get onto your web-site?
• Secondly, why on earth do I have to repeat the search criteria so often? It seems to require the whole gambit every time instead of allowing a small tweak. If I re-enter the app, it's as if I've just landed on Mars. AGAIN! Surely the purpose of an app is to provide a more bespoke experience than the web-site?
• Thirdly, the interface takes a while to get tuned-in and even then, often has me scratching my head to track down where I went wrong. [AutoTrader's app is FAR easier to use].
• Fourthly, after I've finally managed (with some effort) to hone the search criteria to my taste, I do not want to be bombed or confused by irrelevant (nothing to do with my search criteria) 'sponsored' adverts, having me thinking I've tripped up yet again!
Overall, I'm not at all impressed. The app is extremely irritating. The only reason I've kept it (for now) is that some cars in here are not advertised in AutoTrader or ebay which are both much easier than this.
Oh, and when I've got my next car, I'll be deleting this immediately…

The Pros and Cons of Gumtree
The Gumtree App is pretty straight forward to use. Browsing through various categories is simple and so is the search. The reason I haven’t given 5 stars is not because of anything to do with the app it’s actually down to security. When you load an item up for sale be prepared to be bombarded by idiots that either text you with dodgy links that they request you follow, ridiculous offers (not Gumtree’s fault), or, and this is my personal per hate, an automated text/message “is the item still available”, which you will initially be spam bombed with. The problem with this is rather than having an automated response “is the item still available”, it would be better if Gumtree left the box blank but would only allow a message to be sent if ‘x’ amount of words were typed in the box. This would stop auto spamming and idiots who just click the box. Apart from that I do like Gumtree, especially for local selling.

Gumtree is our contact with the outside world
We’re two average men, one retired and one poised to retire - our hobbies are boats and everything that surrounds them. We are financially limited as to how much we can allocate to our hobby however- so access to Gumtree and so people who have anything nautical that they don’t use anymore (old boats, boat trailers, boat engines or nautical stuff) is wonderful for chaps who are finished with their working lives but still want to be busy with their hobbies.
Thank you for giving us access to the outside world and allowing us to have a hobby that we normally could no longer afford.

User-friendly
The ease of using this app has encouraged me to sell more stuff that I don’t actually need (or want.) I haven’t come across any issues either. Moreover, it makes browsing fun. In fact, whilst browsing the for sale items near my area one evening, I came across a desk that was being given away for 1p. (She actually just wanted to get rid of it). I messaged them almost immediately and I had the desk in my office at around lunchtime. This just goes to illustrate, I believe, how intuitive and user-friendly this app is. Great stuff! PS. I didn’t even realise I could do with a new desk until I saw it on here...again, really great stuff!

Awful service from the chat team
As someone who hasn’t sold anything via a site/app like this before I found the support to be very unhelpful and rude. On the first occasion I contacted support daisy d on chat was great, I told her her I was contacted by fraudulent buyers and she help me get my item re listed as it kept getting removed automatically when I was trying to post. It then got removed again so I contacted chat and got connected to an agent called Noah v, he was not helpful at all. He reviewed my message which advised on how daisy help me and how I was just trying to get my ad up for the phone I was selling he then came back saying about how my ad violated terms or something I couldn’t even read the full message before he ended the chat with no time for me to save the chat so I could read it on my own time. I pressed back on the browser and got connected to him again somehow and he did it again before I could even ask a question on what I had done wrong. I simply cannot believe how unhelpful he was. Not good for the company it’s frustrated me and to add insult to injury I cannot contact chat at all now as it was seem he blocked my access. I’m astonished by the poor level of customer service I was shown by this Noah v guy. For the record Daisy D who spoke to first time around was great and helpful hire more people like her. Fact is the people should be given help when trying to use your site not treated this way when not sure what they have done wrong.

A Scammers App
I would not suggest in downloading or purchasing anything off this app because the majority of stuff are a scam and I’ll give you some examples...
My parents were looking to sell a sofa on here and a scammer got in touch and said “I’ve just had heart surgery so I cannot come and pick it up myself but I’ll have someone to pick it up for me but you’ll have to pay them £300 to pick it up” when we raised this situation with my brother, who’s a police officer, he expressed how it is a scam and how if my parents had sent the money the guy wouldn’t have got back in touch... so when my parents wouldn’t send the money for the “delivery person” the guy was being so funny with us!
Another example is I “bought” 2 Ariana Grande Birmingham tickets off a woman on this app she gave me her number and showed me what looked like legitimate confirmation of tickets so I continuously whatsapped her and she was all interested when I was paying her the £210 she stole but then after she was not bothered and as it’s come closer to the date I’m obviously panicking as I have no tickets and she didn’t seem bothered like she’d reply to them so late and wouldn’t give me a clear answer on what’s going on...
so that just proves two example of how this app is a scammers app and how gumtree should have better safety procedures and regulations to protect people from being scammed... I wouldn’t recommend it at all!

Simple and easy
I really don’t know why people are moaning. Maybe they just need something to moan about. Yes gumtree have adverts but what do you expect from an app where you sell items without paying a fee. Yes there are scammers out there who will try to con you but use common sense when selling an item and don’t use PayPal for payments. I’ve sold items on here with no problems. Some items being cheap and others in the hundreds of pounds with no problems. Don’t let negative reviews put you off. If you don’t want to be conned by eBay with their ridiculous listing and final selling fees the. Use gumtree but also use common sense when selling and accepting payments.

Phone Crashing & Freezing
I’ve used the gumtree app for many years and never had a problem but recently with the amount of ads and pop ups it’s totally unusable the app will work for 5 mins but open 3-4 ads it starts to slow your phone down and open 1-2 more and it freezes completely closes the app and when I try to load again it’s so slow I end up giving using the app I’ve since recently found a app that works well and won’t be using gumtree again as there’s so many issues with the app and the ads spoil using the app as the app itself can’t cope with the amount of content it try’s to load up constantly so I’m out thanks gumtree for being what you were for all these years but clearly it’s been taken over by a bunch of clowns that don’t know what there doing and have lost a good customer RIP old gumtree

Hmm
I would usually rate 5* for gumtree but the past month or so I’m starting to get frustrated. I like to see a full list of what’s about so I browse all categories, my location is my postcode +a few miles yet scrolling through there’s about 10 items in the area and everything else is everywhere but! When I want to view things within 2 miles of my postcode I don’t want things from 10-20 miles away clogging up my feed! It really needs sorting, it’s stopped me from being able to buy anything. But just another thing I want to add, it is not gumtrees fault that the site has scammers using it, scammers will scam from anywhere to anyone. If you are going to post items from any selling site you are taking a risk it is not the sites doing, just as many scams here as Facebook and shpock.

Gumtree needs to do something about scams
I hadn’t used gumtree in a couple of years but it seems you cannot list anything smaller without being contacted by multiple scammers trying to get you to post the item and offer to pay through PayPal, they send fake PayPal emails and ask for the item to be sent special delivery. I was scammed out of a £500 camera and when I decided to test if it would happen again, I posted a fake camera ad and was contacted by 11 different scammers all offering a similar version of the same deal. Take some responsibility for this, maybe have a message pop up when anyone uses the word PayPal, anything like that, you have some scam information but it is not easily found straight away. I’m doing a better job messaging others to warn them. Get control of your website this is a real epidemic!

Ohh Gumtree
Gumtree used to be a great site where you could quickly and efficiently sell and look at adds I don’t know what’s happened but this site/app is completely bogus now nothing but a pain in the beep beep I’m done with the app now been holding back for months waiting for them to fix it but nope don’t seem interested at all if you’re still ignoring the reviews and decide to download it here is what to expect
Post an add and get it took down for not being in the correct category BUT it’s in the correct category unless a motorbike is not a motorbike
Post adds for free and then gumtree randomly start trying to charge you to post an add not so bad though couple of quid NOPE £30 to post an add and it’s not even on the front page it is just to post a normal free add no thanks mate I feel sorry for the poor bugger who actually paid that
Better make sure you type what you’re looking for perfectly or in my case with motorbikes a million different ways because even a space in between will show you different adds on different bikes meaning you do one search and 3 adds pop up of what you’re looking for but add a space in there and 10 different adds of what you’re looking for pop up STUPID
Don’t even waste your time with customer service just please don’t it’s not worth your time nothing more to be said on that matter LOL
Final words of my first ever bad review just use Facebook marketplace or if there’s another site out there use that

Nothing but scams for sellers and buyers.
Gumtree is full of scammers. Usually it’s the buyer who gets scammed. I was in need of money and decided to display quite a few expensive items. One of them beats headphones. A person willing to buy contacted me and me without thinking packaged everything up and told the person I’m ready to sell. The person insisted they pay me via PayPal only. Again, me being in need of money I requested money via PayPal and shipped off the headphones to the given address with next day delivery and paid £24. I receive an email from “PayPal” saying the money has been deposited but won’t show up in PayPal until the buyer receives the item. Instantly I knew this was an unusual thing. I contacted PayPal and they told me this email a fraudulent email. They told me to contact action fraud immediately and try getting my parcel stopped. Luckily my parcel was stopped but this was a terrible experience. I was emotionally and financially struggling and was in need of money and stupid scammers tried this move. Save yourselves guys please, wether you are a buyer or seller, don’t do it on gumtree. Be aware of this idiots and truthfully delete gumtree. There are very rare legitimate buyers.

Full of scammers - Fake PayPal Emails
After a month of using the app, and having over 4000 views on my item, plus paying extra money to get my item viewed more by others who are looking for such items, I’ve only had 6 replies off people and they’ve all been scammers, sending fake PayPal emails and texts. If you ever get an email of “service@paypal” then ignore it or end the deal with that person. Because they get you to believe they have sent you money through PayPal and they’ve done no such thing! They just send a fake email to your email inbox. Luckily a guy at a local post office told me about this before I could pay for shipping and send my item away and receive no payment from the “customer”.
Gumtree needs to monetise messages in some way to stop things like his happening.

App crashes and gambling adverts
So I would normally give gumtree a high rating I’ve used it for ages, however whilst trying to post adverts recently it has crashed a lot and will not let me fill in the app properly, or say the item is In a paid for category when it is not and even then it wouldn’t let me move onto find out what the fee was. These things are annoying but what’s really got my goat is the fact on my phone version of the app it now puts up its own adverts for a monopoly online gambling game on the home screen. I pay to list items I don’t want continuous exposure to online gambling the quick addictive slot machine type It’s not good why lower yourself gumtree. If give a -5 stars if I could poor judgment

Same old bugs despite ‘bug fixes’
I use this app regularly, and for the large part it works well, but the search function is flawed, in that for certain searches, despite filtering your search term by category (e.g. musical instruments), it searches everything for sale, so I have swathes of irrelevant items to trawl through in my search list. I don’t know why it does this now, because it never did this till maybe a year ago, but the flaw suddenly appeared after one particular update and has not been resolved despite repeated updates since.
The ads are also frustratingly intrusive. I realise that advertising revenue is needed to keep sites like this in business but they’re so annoying in their current format that I’m almost at the point of boycotting the advertisers in protest!

Don’t believe positive reviews!
I had a negative review here and it was removed. If that’s what they do to bolster their rating than would you trust this company?
Bug fixes? Yes, bugs fixed to the app to make it annoying to use. As it has been since last update, horribly jerky as scrolling through posts and paid ads refresh causing the display to constantly fly up and down. Now there’s video pop up advertisements that just appear as you are trying to scroll through the goods for sale.
Why would Gumtree create such an annoying user experience? If you must you Gumtree, use the web browser. Or better yet, try Schpock instead.

Great app
I only tend to sell household and garden items but have been using it for several years and have bought and sold most of the contents of one of my houses. Everyone I've dealt with has been genuine and honest, I’ve been really happy with everything I’ve bought and had no complaints. Had some dodgy calls after posting some clothing items but that’s the flip side of easy communication and I now save that for postal sites.
I have no doubt there is some unsavoury users but that’s life and in whatever form you always need to be sensible with what you buy or post on the Internet. Long may it continue.

Great until recent update
Absolutely no issues at all with this App until the most recent update... I have a search alert set so receive a notification when new items are added to it. Normally I’d click on the notification & be able to view a list of all items, I could click on one of the items & then return to the list of all items... but now if I click on one of the items from the list there is no “back” button so I can’t go back to the list of all items...
I’ve deleted the search alert & created a new one, that didn’t work so I logged out & in again, that didn’t work so finally deleted the App & downloaded it again... Nothing worked?! Don’t get my wrong, this isn’t the end of my world or anything but it’s annoying that the purpose of search alerts is to send a notification when new items are listed but it doesn’t work.

I was robbed
I’ve used this app many times to sell unwanted items and it’s always been great however today I was robbed. I advertised a phone to sell and went to meet up with someone and he snatched it out my hand and ran. I was in a public area with cctv with pedestrians walking by however clearly that doesn’t even stop some people. Reported it to gum tree (who were really helpful) and the police. Hope these people get caught as they’ve ruined a great app for people. I honestly don’t think I will ever buy or sell on here again. In future I think I’m just going to stick to trading in with main retailers or people that I know. Don’t even think a few extra quid is worth your life being at risk. I got lucky but I’ve read and heard stories where much worse has happened, people have been attacked and threatened etc. Stay safe to all those who do buy and sell on here !

Fab, easy and quick to post an ad
Just wish they would let you repost ads that have expired! Currently it only lets you do that if you pay to bump up the ad, otherwise you have to redo a whole new ad :-(
Apart from that though it is great, very easy to navigate and posting an ad only takes a couple of minutes. When you’re selling a lot of items that are low value, every minute saved makes it more likely that you’ll actually get round to selling your stuff.
Have had plenty of responses to most of my ads, and no fees like on eBay. Most of the people using Gumtree are decent sorts, not too many timewasters. You can choose to get text messages too which is great for hard-of-hearing folks like me.

Why all the great reviews? Are they using same app
**just downloaded yet another update and what do you know...... it crashed again after 40s !! Terrible**
Terrible only “fixed bugs” two days ago and still crashing. Why can’t these so called experts get it sorted. The app used to be great but like all things now full of useless advertisements and over complicated not to mention how annoying it is to see eBay ads coming up. Think I’m gonna try shpock see what that’s like.
Always freezes and have to start all over again. The posting stuff to sell section is awful now it’s difficult and each week they ban something that the previous week you could sell no probs. They tell you that your ads in wrong category when it’s not then try to charge you five pound to put in the right one (even though it’s in the right place) so so dissatisfying and disappointing

PHISHING
I have found this App really useful and have sold a few items to a few people.
However, I nearly got phished recently. The would be purchaser wanted to pay me via PayPal, which would have been acceptable because they didn't live locally.
The plan that came through via a message was that the purchaser was to pay his £50 into my PayPal account, and include £200 for the carrier. I was then told to look for a PayPal email confirming that they had £250 ready to transfer to me once I had transferred £200 to the carrier.
There was a fake PayPal message, it looked authentic, but I had already, 'Smelled a rat' and sent the phish email to PayPal.
So, be aware!
