Our app is a convenient way to find train times, check prices and buy tickets for any train journey in Great Britain. And we don’t charge booking or payment card fees!

Beware online prices

This is shocking - the price for the same ticket is £3.55 MORE for my regular journey using this app than it is to buy exactly the same ticket at the ticket machine and/or counter.
I reported this to GA, had to request twice for my query to be escalated due to nonsensical replies and the latest suggestion is that I re-load the app - not that it made any difference.
So beware and double check the prices before buying!

It doesn’t work! I can’t get my ticket into the wallet, I’ve phoned customer service 3 times and it still doesn’t work!!! I’ve emailed them and followed the instructions, doesn’t work!!! I’ve reinstalled it twice!!!! It doesn’t work!!! Sort it out come on GA everyone else can do a better App!!!!

Wi-fi disappointment

This is a backward upgrade as the menu no longer has the option to ‘connect to onboard Wi-fi’ and my iPhone will no longer connect.

smart cars purchase cost nearly me a penalty fare

I bought a ticket through the app but it didn’t add it to my smart card
There seems no way to check that a ticket had been added to the smart card so the first I know of it was it didn’t make the right squeak when trying to exit the station barrier.
I phoned smart card support and this is a known problem with the app
Please fix it
There is no way to contact the app support so I’ve had to leave a review to warn other passengers too.

Basic Functions Fail

Extremely annoying that one of the most basic elements of the app - the “Find Trains” button - on Departures and Arrivals continuously doesn’t work. Have to open and close the app multiple times to even get a response.

Flakey

I wouldn’t bother if you like things to work properly. I had to reset my password 3 times, ring customer services (Indian?) and delete and reinstall the app after what I’d purchased didn’t appear in my ticket wallet. For some strange reason you then have to download the tickets and then activate them, why I have absolutely no idea!!

Avoid

Like many others have said, the app takes your money (after much effort to use its awful UI) and it’s pot luck as to whether your ticket will actually arrive. If not, you then have the pain of dealing with their appalling awful customer “support”.

Useless - can’t even use my new Club 50 greater Anglia card!

This App used to be fairly stable but now I have a Club 50 greater anglia card it won’t work. As soon as I select a valid single or return journey and specify this card it says I have made an error and takes you to another screen where you have to specify ticket type and dates / times again but the drop down for adding a card doesn’t even have the Club 50 card specified. Totally inconsistent development to use a different drop down page to the main one! I have no way of using my card on this App, I have to go to your main website but then I can only pick up ticket from a machine! The main reason for the app is NOT to have to get a ticket! May as well get a refund on my Club 50 card as totally defeats the object if I can’t use It. May as well have a network rail card as this works ok ! Who tests these Apps and looks at these comments??

Rubbish upgrade

Since the upgrade of this App I am unable to buy tickets. Now it keeps telling me I have made an error and only offers me a same day return when I have clearly put in different days of travel. Does anyone check updates before sending out? This was such a useful App but I will no longer be using it. ☹️☹️☹️

Awful - cost me lots of money and painful to use

As someone said - don’t bother. I just arrived at the train station with my so called open return only to find my ticket had expired despite it saying it was the correct date.
Has to buy another ticket. You’re also at the mercy of your own phone running out of battery. The rigmarole downloading and activating is totally pointless as well - there’s no advantage of this as none of the tickets are refundable or changeable without a hefty fee before or after going through this process any how!

Much easier than queuing for tickets!

I get the train about once a month and this app is perfect for me. I can buy and download my ticket to my phone so there’s no need to wait around at the station or get there super early. I can arrive and get on the train immediately, no hassle. I think it’s great!

Steer clear

I purchased a ticket as I needed to travel for an appointment at short notice. Website would not allow me to purchase a ticket online - I guess now they have the app they want you to use it instead of getting the ticket delivered to your phone
I got the confirmation email. No sign of the ticket on the app. I had an error message which said to contact customer service. All they could tell me was to reinstall the app. Which I did and it still didn’t load. In the meantime I missed my train
Called then again and was told I would have to buy another ticket and claim a refund. They did not even address how to resolve the app issue . So I would guess from this it happens a lot
Spare yourself the stress and financial impact and don’t use it
By the way the train I then caught was cancelled so ideally don’t travel by GA at all if you can help it

HOW HARD CAN IT BE?

We are told to use smart cards yet we can’t even buy a sIngle ticket on one.
When buying a smart ticket can we please have
1. Fingerprint log in
2. Remembers payment method for easy repurchase
3. Tells you how long you have left on your current ticket. This does exist but is hidden in the my account area.
4. Able to buy a single ticket
5. Set reminders to purchase a new ticket.
6. Dedicated app for smart tickets.
7. Set route as for most commuters this doesn’t change.
8. Easy repurchase of season ticket, this does exist but doesn’t work, says my ticket is on its last day but the repurchase tells me the earliest day to start my ticket is a week away! Totally useless.

Do not use

Twice I have tried to buy mobile tickets using this app and twice they have failed to download leaving me without a valid ticket and then many calls trying to get a refund. I even got a penalty notice the first time because the gate staff said I had travelled without a ticket
Use Trainline app instead there is a 75p admin fee but at least it works or just buy a ticket at the station!

App doesn’t work

Pretty much the same experience as Lucy details in her review. Bought a ticket but it doesn’t appear in the app. I email and phone GA who tell me to log off and on again and try the app on a different device. Things I’d already tried. I ask if l can transfer the ‘collection method’ so l can get my ticket from a self-service ticket machine and I’m told this isn’t possible. I then ask for a refund, explaining I’ll just buy a new ticket and choose self service ticket collection. I’m told they will do this for a £10 admin fee. At this point l just started laughing. In summary, don’t bother with the app, it doesn’t work. And the customer service is useless so they can’t help when it goes wrong. Go ‘old skool’ and get a proper ticket.

Doesn’t show smart card purchases

After purchasing a season ticket on smart card, the ticket wallet shows nothing at all! So you have no way of knowing (apart from the confirmation email) when your ticket expires, as gate barriers do not show this information either. So it’s virtually impossible to know when your ticket expires. Worse then useless!

Waste of time

Was this app designed in 1996? Do some benchmarking and realise it should be simple, intuitive and quick. Takes longer than waiting in your 10 min queues at the station.

DON T BUY E-tickets

For the first time I bought e-tickets instead of collecting from the station . NIGHTMARE, I had to spend almost 2 hours , to get the money refunded , cause app didn’t download the tickets . At the and , after calling 3 times and having a massive row with an assistant, I managed to get the refund and buy new ones, BUT I will collect them .

Needs an update for new iPhones

This app does not show mobile tickets in the wallet on an iPhone XR.
I downloaded the app onto an older iPhone and my tickets instantly appeared.
Please update the app to fix these problems.
While you’re at it, please could you also allow me to specify “mobile” tickets when purchasing tickets on a computer.

Can’t be trusted

I have used this app for 2 years without a problem. This week the app managed to wipe my mobile tickets. Three calls to customer care including being cut off when I asked to speak to a supervisor and it’s still does not work. Over an hour on the phone wasted and I guess now i will have to buy a new ticket. Sorry but I can’t trust this app again.

Bought a ticket from here. I received email confirmation and money was taken from my account but no ticket appeared in the ticket wallet.. Greater Anglia staff told me there is nothing I can do but buy another one... so I paid twice the price of a normal ticket because of this app. STAY AWAY

DO NOT BOTHER - Takes your money but no ticket!!

Unfortunately I use Greater Anglia services regularly, commuting from Chelmsford. I finally decided to download this app and try it out after being bombarded by adverts telling me it would save time. I purchased my ticket on the walk to the station in the app, which took ages to do. After submitting all my payment details and being told it was successful I received no ticket. The ticket wallet was empty and no confirmation email received.
Got to the station and still had no ticket so asked a member of staff for help. They simply told me to buy another ticket and then claim a refund if the payment went through.
Obviously I had been charged through the app but never received a ticket or any kind of confirmation. I missed my train because I had to buy a new ticket, making me late for an important meeting. And now I have to try and argue with GA for a refund, which anyone who has dealt with them before knows is not easy.
In conclusion, this app is a huge waste of time and money. Don’t even bother.

You still have to Queenie to collect the ticket

How bonkers is this app? It takes far longer to buy a ticket than the old way and you still have to collect the physical ticket from a machine at the station.l which always has a queue. I just don’t get the point of it.

Slightly better than the last major update.

Some of the major and fairly basic tasks in the previous major update have improved although some still remain. For example, the app logs you out of the system periodically and therefore stalls your ticket buying process, very inconvenient and frankly shouldn’t happen. It is now slightly more straight forward to buy a ticket for your favourite journeys but he app is still very buggy and just a bit rubbish.
Please can the app developers try harder! Thorough testing needed!

nice reliable app. needs Apple Wallet integration.

generally works well, but needs a button to transfer the ticket to your Apple Wallet like other ticket apps eg airlines, kind of a basic requirement. still, clean looking and easy to use, I prefer it to national rail enquiries for looking up trains and times. makes you choose a specific train even for tickets valid on multiple trains -- could handle the issue of ticket eligibility on different services better.

You still have to queue

You can buy the ticket using the app, but it doesn’t give you a ticket, so you still have to queue at the station to collect it. Plus it takes longer to buy the ticket using the app than using the machine at the station. Therefore you may as well buy the ticket at the station.

Horrible app

Slow, clunky and awkward... adds to the stress of travelling. The spiritual equivalent of a really slow and cumbersome ticket machine with a long queue. Tellingly, ticket inspectors declined to bother to check tickets individually for the four members of our family travelling together.

Buyer beware - does not offer cheapest tickets!

This app develops as quickly as their trains. Still doesn’t keep you logged in, so have to go through the laborious process of logging in everyday. Plus, no Apple Pay, so have to put the security code in every time you want to pay, again laborious. BEWARE this app doesn’t offer the cheapest fare. Just quoted me the best deal two singles £54.00 against a off peak return 37.50 available from ticket office. Doesn’t even give you the option to purchase an off peak return. App bug or profiteering by GA ? you decide. Another thing, it is made as difficult as possible to claim a refund for late running trains if you use this app. Why for god-sake can’t there be a button by ticket to claim electronically? A cynical person would think that GA want to keep the monies they automatically receive from Network rail to boast revenue. Come on GA let’s put the resources into the app which matches the spin of the publicity dept. Perhaps the managing director could take personal charge of app development, instead of spending his time writing glossy editorials in their magazine? Must go a pink pig (or perhaps a red and grey one) has just flown past....apparently it is late due to the pig before it breaking down.

Terrible

Hideous app which is difficult to navigate. Has loads of bugs, that send you round in loops! Impossible to recognise if you are logged in or not! Slow. I registered and ordered a smart card via this app. It never turned up, i when i phoned the helpline they had no record of my account even tho i had a conformation email, so its obviously not working correctly.
Especially difficult to use on the go, or when standing on a packed train with a sweaty armpit in your face!

Please remove then login each time a ticket is purchased - or at least enable TouchID.
Other than that the main two bug bears are as others have mentioned:
1. Inability to choose an open return without being forced to select a return train
2. Having a seat reserved even when not selecting the seat reservation option
3. No Apple Wallet Integration for tickets

Terrible and pointless

I travel into London from Chelmsford at least 3 times a week but not every day... I.e not enough to get a season ticket and have to buy a daily ticket. This app takes a relatively long time to buy a ticket for my favourite journeys (ie a lot of clicks) so much so that when I arrive to find 20 people in the queue I can’t even purchase the ticket before I get to the front of the queue.
Part of the problem is that unlike the ticket machines it won’t let you by a ticket for the journey you have to pick the specific train you want (there’s no discount) and, when combined with stopping you from buying a ticket for anything leaving in the next 10 minutes, you find that you have to scroll through the next trains clicking on them before you find out if you can or can’t buy.
Totally negates the point of the app from the perspective of someone buying a ticket daily, I may as well just get one at the station.

Hopeless. Unnecessarily complicated, not easy to use and full of bugs despite the updates. Mine never shows the tickets I’ve bought. This needs a serious overhaul.

Why download the app in the first place?

I’ve been travelling with Greater Anglia to commute to/from London. I don’t see why we need to download this ridiculous app in the first place just to access e tickets. What’s wrong with sending e-tickets to our emails? This app is just inconvenient.

Buggy

I bought tickets for 2 journeys via GA’s website, in one transaction. Got to the station to collect them only to find it only displays the first journey in the wallet.. no other way to access purchase history on a mobile device and find out the collection code... rubbish!

Almost ok but major issue..

I have to use this app daily for my commute. The newer app dates definitely make the whole thing run smoother, but a major draw back is that you can’t register more than one payment card, and I cannot for the life of me work out how to change the one currently registered on the app, which in my case has now expired and is completely void. I’ve even tried changing it on a computer but with no luck. Come on greater anglia get it together!!

Latest update is unhelpful for returns

I’d always found the app useful until its latest incarnation. I travelled on a return to Newcastle for the weekend using an advance ticket. The app was always really good for having info about return time and seat reservations. It seems now that once you’ve made your outward journey the whole ticket expires and you can’t get the information about the return leg. Brilliant(!). I’d never experienced this until recently but it’s not great.

Tickets not downloading

Tickets do not download! They take your money but do not give you a ticket - isn’t that called something? They seem unable to get the basics right but keep advertising this useless app.
