The new app is confusing. I have an iTunes subscription but it keeps asking me to pay for the next edition.
It appears to be an improvement not for the better.

You pay a premium price for a premium subscription and are served up this pathetic excuse for an app. Get with the times or please don’t bother.
Navigation is terrible, impossible to search articles, links from contents page removed so have to endlessly scroll through to find what you want. Clearly designed on the cheap.

I get it: Swipe up for reader view!!
On every single page this box appears that says swipe up for reader view. I get it okay! If I want the reader view I should swipe up. Stop showing this on every page as it is ruining the magazine content.

Awful
Slow and clunky in the extreme.
Frustratingly, you need to download each issue from your library one at a time, which takes fr ages (I have several years of back issues that I’ve bought).
To add insult to injury when you’re offline, it refuses to recognise any of the downloads exist and tells you that you have none.
Unless it improves significantly, I’m cancelling my subscription.

No good especially on iPhone
The iPad version of this app used to be ok, although the latest update has introduced irritating new ‘features’ - signing in is a pain, it doesn’t remember the page you were on and a pop up appears every time you turn a page telling you to swipe up for reader view.
On the iPhone the app seems to freeze on the start page whenever I open it, so I haven’t been able to use it at all.
Hopefully the iPad version will be updated soon but I wouldn’t bother with the phone one.

What happened to content links?
I have used the app for two or three years now and it works well on iPad. On my iPhone the enlargement function is unstable and the font too smell. I rarely read Decanter on the phone.
I used to like the ability to tap on page number in the Contents list and go straight to the article. This has disappeared and now I have to scroll through from front to back. That is frustrating.

App won't attach to my subscription, and support is non-existent. Trying to get my money back from the subscription, but as there is nobody willing to answer an email or a phone, it looks like I will have to go through American Express fraud department.

Very interesting, seems to have been sorted out since I started this review, have been hospitalized. Good articles, plenty of different regions/ wines, some of which I have able to buy and taste!! Will continue with subscription.

I had great trouble logging on, with several calls to Magazines Direct to get my account activated (not yet resolved at time of writing). Don't normally review apps but this one seems particularly flakey.

When the app works and I am reading the magazine, I have very few issues and it's a great way to issue fantastic content. I would give it 4 stars (it would be better with search facilities and links to the website). However the app frequently does not work, with the latest issues not showing in the library and the customer support is completely rubbish, providing boiler-plate answers that do not resolve the issues, hence my rating of 1 star. For a major magazine publisher, this is quite extraordinary incompetence.

Problems....
When it works, I don't have any quarrel with this app but when it doesn't then it is frustrating. I've been trying to download my latest edition for 4 days now and nothing...
I re-installed the app, signed out and in etc. again nothing. And now on top of this lost all my previous editions and can't retrieve anything. Grrrrr...

A subscription touting waste of space - via a difficult to read PDF!
Can possibly see its merits on an iPad but iPhone is impossible. Go and buy the mag because unless you subscribe for mag content, there's nothing to see here. It's merely a portal for subscription. Expect nothing more.

Nothing wrong with it!
I've no idea what these negative reviews or on about! I've used this for over a year and I have no complaints. Perfectly simple to read and navigate and a more than adequate substitute for the print version. I've never had any trouble accessing it and having quick and easy access to previous numbers is a bonus. No doubt a dedicated iPad version would be ideal but I can't find much wrong with the present set-up.

It's a PDF of the mag, crap.
That's it, a PDF that you have to expand constantly to read, love the mag, but a PDF in this day and age???? Really???? I only gave 1 star because I love the content. A PDF, and they have the cheek to call it an APP and charge a fortune for it.Wake up decanter, someone else is going to have your lunch if your not careful.

Lose the annoying side navigation
I've upgraded from Zinio directly to Decanter. It's all good apart from the really annoying sidebar navigation.
After a couple of glasses - or when using one handed - you suddenly find yourself automatically flicked forward or back a few pages, especially when you're zoomed in on columns. There's just NO need for this function and it's really annoying. There's just no need for it - a good old fashioned flick does the job of a page change while this function just takes you places you don't want to go.
Really really annoys me and detracts from an otherwise fantastic magazine experience.

Logs out each time it's used - irritating
The latest version for the iPhone works well, but irritatingly it logs out of my account every time it is closed, so I need to re-enter my account details which is irritating - and which never happened with the old version, or any other magazine app.

Decanter Review
If you enjoy wine then this is an absolute must have read. The most informative and well written, unbiased wine magazine in the market. Excellent for both the high brow well informed lover and also the amateur who wants to know more. Dip in and enjoy or become a serial user, reading a wide range of leading experts, with different tastes and interests, countries, colours and background.

How can this app be so slow??? I am a big fan of the Decanter Magazine and it's coverage on the world of wines is unsurpassed so it is great shame this app reflects so badly on such great commentary. I have a fast broadband connection and it is absolutely ridiculous that in 2013 the Decanter Magazine app takes hours to download one magazine and then frequently freezers or fails and then you have to download from the beginning!!?! I would be ashamed to put my name to this app. Trust me just get in your car and drive to shops and buy a paper copy as this will be far faster than trying to download it :-(

I love Decanter, however I agree with comments that perhaps this version could/should be cheaper? In addition, I am of a "certain age" and wish to zoom in on pages and find this tends to blur the text, this facility could be better perhaps????

You guys are having a laugh! £4.99 for an individual issue? The print version is only £4.30 - and that has to be printed on glossy paper, distributed round the country and retailers have to have their percentage. So, how come the iPad version costs more, when it is just pinged to your machine? Two words spring to mind: "rip" and "off".
The publishers should hang their heads in shame at such a blatant scam of iPad owners. Do they assume we are all wealthy and won't notice when we're being taken for mugs?

Frustrating
What a shame that the clumsy, plodding nature of this app detracts so much from the enjoyment of Decanter. The magazine has always had it's issues but this online version just exemplifies those inadequacies. As with other reviewers, the request to purchase when already a subscriber is not only annoying but also a tad insulting - surely a better link between subscriber lists and app users should be possible.

After the update I have an error after trying to restore my purchases. The customer service answer is to contact Apple. Can you just test it and get it right for the first time. Would fire the app developer for this kind of error, as I will never subscribe again!!!!

Good but one big problem
I travel a lot so getting the magazine on my iPad is great. The one big disadvantage is that they don't include the supplements. The supplements are a key part of the magazine, so why they're not included I can't imagine. Come on Decanter, get your act together!

A big improvement. Like the new store format and it's much easier to follow how to buy. Still an invaluable magazine. I might subscribe now, but I'll probably get the printed magazine as the I-pad version comes free.

Disappointed
As both a wine enthusiast and a gadget lover, I was very excited to learn Decanter was to go digital, but this is such a disappointment. It's very un intuitive to install and download editions and the presentation of the content is no more than moving about a large piece of paper. No thought has been given to the presentation of the content for a new media. Look at some good examples of how publications have made the transition from paper to iPad and have a re-think. I.e. The Week, Daily Telegraph

Perfectly clear that nobody's reading these reviews and nobody cares. I imagine somebody tests the first one, which works, and then doesn't bother to try the next edition. Even that is probably a generous view. A pity that this sort of stupidity can put you off such a good magazine.

Dire user experience. Maybe the content is good, but i dont know as after 10 minutes of struggling i still cant figure out how to get to it.
Portrait view only, sad there is no landscape. The navigation is inconsistent and unclear. Panels have different graphic designs throughout the app. The button for existing subscribers is incredibly hidden and difficult to find. Signing in to the library doesnt seem to work at all :(

No matter how I try I cannot receive my Free Subscription Edition. Have registered, no problem and can open Old Edition or buy and edition but no way can I obtain my Subscription Edition. Please oh please sort this out as it is a good idea but probably rushed before fully checked..

Still Rubbish! I've tried to follow Nialli's instructions, but the App store only shows an Installed button, not a Free button that he refers to. Have wasted a lot of time trying to get the download procedure to work - should have been better tested before release.

Useless!
As a subscriber to the print issue of the magazine, I was sent a special 8-figure "subscriber number" in order to allow me access to the iPad edition. There is no place where you can use it. What is the point of advertising this facility if it hasn't been checked out.
