Fantastic app, I use it daily as the content is generally great, my only gripe is their are too many adverts before clips. The constant adverts are a little irritating because they are far too long and are played before any clip no matter how short. If they sorted this out I’d have given a 5 star review.

Using this via Virgin media (what did I do to deserve this unholy alliance). The handoff between these two apps makes me wonder if the development teams even inhabit the same planet let alone collaborated on this. After 15 minutes blundering through their idea of integration I get a message saying device number exceeded. Not your device exceeds the limit of 2 or a link to the info or any guidance on what the limit is or where to mange the devices. Just piss poor and now what I wanted to watch has finished anyway.

I love this app, or used to! Clearly the most recent update has bugs as when you start scrolling through the articles the screen moves when you don’t want it to. Trying to watch tennis (cost of which is 3 times what I was paying with Amazon) , screen hangs (I’ve got very fast fibre connection), there’s a broad blue band at top of the screen telling me what I’m watching which doesn’t go. When I try to mirror to my LG tv it says this video output not allowed, even though all my other apps allow me to mirror and work fine. Garbage.

Requesting a revisit of cookie settings every time the app is opened - until all cookies are accepted - is at best a dubious practice and at worst totally illegal.

When you ask about cookies you’re legally bound to make rejecting as prominent an option as accept (failed) and constantly asking the same question again until you get the answer you want is just awful practice.

Clearly whoever makes the decisions there has decided that harvesting and selling data is the only way to keep your service financially viable… so just be honest about it.

Poor, pointless, repetitive “news” stories

Some of the news stories I see on the app are informative and newsworthy. However vast majority over the past few months seem to be more bothered about getting clicks that actually telling you any new or newsworthy. Repetitive stories: one larger article is posted then over the next few days is split down into 4 or more separate articles, or is reposted “updated” to get more clicks and engagement. Many stories are no longer actually relating to the sports themselves. Majority of videos/stories I’ve seen relating to the Super Bowl seem to reference Taylor Swift in the title, why does sky sports news need to tell you who was in the box watching the game with Taylor Swift. Most goal videos seem to reference “unbelievable goal” or words to that effect, but in fact are just a fairly basic goal by modern standards.

Get back to showing actual newsworthy articles or take ‘news’ out the app name.

The main sports stories are generally covered well. Video clips are good. Easy to access sport news and up to date football scores. Good variety of sports in the news. Ladies sport still often poorly represented in sky news. The golf leaderboards are slow and often patchy access. The software source for your golf data does not appear reliable. There is too much Boxing for me, a disproportionate amount of nonsense and pre fight antics. Sky seem to think it is important but I lose the will to live wondering whether a fight is going to happen or what one boxer thinks of another as they put on a totally artificial scene that no educated person cares about.

I follow cricket, rugby Union and F1 and am very happy with the coverage of all these sports. The drop-down menu of fixtures for cricket is worse than the previous system for the forthcoming week. The only useful thing is being able to check on fixtures on future dates more than a week away. Otherwise the old system was much better. If these two features could somehow be combined it would be much more user-friendly.

Why is there still not an option to turn woman’s football notifications on and off. You can turn off other notifications that are not of any interest, yet we have woman’s football forced on us. Add a separate toggle in settings and if people want woman’s football they can turn it on.

2023 also and still sky sports don’t support dynamic type for people that need larger font sizes. No dark mode either.

This app has been the same for years. Is it not about time it got a total new look. It has falling further behind other sports apps . 👎🏻

Has 2023 US Open tennis. Bought one month, over twice price of Eurosport or Discovery+ single month passes. Does not offer match replays - many matches are overnight in the UK and those who work during the day cannot catch-up. No facility to record an individual court’s coverage. The app is also over-sensitive to security apps also running on the device. I’m logged in, I expect to use what I am paying for. Not nearly as good as it’s rivals for tennis fans - buying up the rights then providing a much poorer experience.

Ever since the last update on the Sky Sports App on 18 April 2023, version no. 8.34.0, I had of not been able to watch any live sports on the Sky Sports App with my iPhone or my iPad. When I try to watch any live sports, the app just says “Video Unavailable - A problem was encountered- please try again later”. I have attached a photo of the message that I am receiving. I am using the correct credentials to log into the app and I have carried out all of the usual trouble shooting activities such as reinstalling the app, restarting my iPhone, checking the latest iOS software and logging out and in again. I currently subscribe to Sky Sports through Virgin Media (using their credentials) which is why I cannot use the Sky Go app to watch Sky Sports. Please could you resolve this as everything was working well before the Sky Sports App updated t version no 8.34.0.

Great app. The 20-30 second adverts on video clips under one and a half minutes are the only reason I give it a 3 star rating. If they sorted that out, and made sure the adverts were not nearly as long as the clips we are trying to watch, I'd give it 4-5 stars. Edit: please can you sort out the new app? It's nice looking and everything, but it keeps shutting down intermittently for absolutely no reason at all. P.S. the advert lengths have improved, thankfully

Edit: Can we please have dark mode on the app? It would make using it a little bit easier for dyslexics, like me. Too much white makes it harder to concentrate on for long periods. Thanks

Just upgraded to iPhone 14 plus and app is sooooo slow now. Don’t know if it’s because of new phone or update to iOS but takes so long for it to load up when opening now. Using ESPN app more and more now. Also don’t even attempt to watch video clips as it’s actually quicker to go and google or you tube the same clip than it is to be forced to watch an advert before you get to the clip you want to see

The app is great but let down by having too many repetitive adverts before the embedded videos. These videos are typically in bite sized chunks of no more than 2-3 minutes, yet each one is preceded by an advert of approximately 30 seconds or more. Particularly for busy people who are on the go, this is just disproportionate and disincentivises actually watching the content once the adverts come on, so actually the effect is that the adverts don’t get viewed anyway. Why not make it so that (1) adverts are (more) restricted in length and (2) if you click on a subsequent video within a short period after watching the first, adverts are not then repeated/there is no advert. Having to watch the same advert again and again is hugely frustrating and is presumably not the response the advertisers are targeting. It adds significant time to what the viewer may otherwise want as a quick watch of a short video.

Infuriating how many ads are on the app now. There seems to be an ad after every paragraph in an article nowadays.

Also, the video ads. How can it be to watch a 20-30 second clip we have to sit through 2 ads. Normally a 30+ second one and a 5 second Renault one. On every video. I can’t be the only one that clicks off anymore so neither the ad or content is being watched?

Surely there should be a way to bring this down? 5 second ad for 20-30 second clip, 10 second for 30-60 second clip for example.

Or make it so that if you’re on the app and watching clips, once you’ve seen an ad, you don’t have to see it again for another 5/6 videos. Seeing a Renault or Gillette ad 6 times isn’t going to make me more inclined to go and buy one. It’s just annoying.

Firstly the biggest issue, the adverts. Getting more frequent, but the ads being forced on you before / after every clip is just far too much. What makes it worse is how often they crash / fail to load and you get stuck on a black screen and have to force close / reopen the app.

The articles are also getting worse, seems like no one proof reads them, many do not make sense or have glaring errors. From wrong score lines, wrong team won, to just the simple spelling mistakes that a spell check would have found.

It may be a free app, but the standard is poor and seems to be getting worse not better. This is one of the reasons I, like many, won’t waste my money on sky especially given there are plenty of legal alternatives for all your sports requirements.

The app works fine, and you can watch your sports on it. But the front page, and the way the articles are handled is ridiculous. A lot of them are videos, which is fine. But often, to access any video, whether it be 30 seconds or 3 minutes, you have to endure 2 adverts, one lasting at least 30 seconds. If it is a huge documentary, then fair enough, but for what is meant to be a quick read light hearted piece, it is just frustrating. There needs to be a related time limit for these stories. Less than 30 seconds, 5 second advert. More than two minutes, a 15 second advert would be acceptable and so on. But an advert section should never last longer than the actual story piece, especially when I have already paid for this service. (I am a sky sports subscriber)

Everything and everyone is fantastic on Sky Sports. F1 coverage is exceptional so is the football and the rugby. The golf team are amazing and so are all the men and women who front the Sky Sports show. World class all round with the one exception being Gale Davis who seems to be completely out of her depth, virtually daily. Charmless, ill informed and amateurish are fair adjectives. All the other female reporters are exceptional so why employ her? She’s not a bad person just hopeless at this role. Sort it out Sky. 🤠

Obviously the content, videos etc are all great. The one and only thing that COMPLETELY SPOILS this app is ads.

For EVERY video you click on, it makes you watch 2 ads(usually one 30s ad and another 5s one) I suppose I could accept that, annoying sure but I accept they need the revenue.

Where it gets ridiculous is that when a video is over, you’re met with two more compulsory ads like when you initially clicked on the video before, it returns to the app screen.

So 4 ads (1 min 10s minimum) for every single clip (even if clip is only a few seconds long)

Its not like they make you do this once every few clips you watch, or give you the occasional ‘skip’ option….nope!! 4 ads every clip whether you like it or not. Absolutely crap!!!

The app is great but (and I am mentioning it here as no idea where else I can send my feedback) when I have already turned F1 news notifications off why does the result of the race continue to come through via the breaking news notification. I have turned f1 off to avoid results yet they still come through. Surely there should be an option for f1 results not to come through via the breaking news thread. I always want updates to come through APART from race results so I don’t want to turn off the breaking news notification…. I just don’t want spoilers though

After being made to watch two adverts (a chore in itself) before the video clip of your choice is played unfortunately time and time again the app crashes and becomes lost just prior to the playing of your chosen video.

It’s a shame because the app would be good otherwise. I do have the latest update also.

Bundesliga live streams need fixing

Sky need to sort out their Bundesliga live streams available via this app. Yet again, such a stream repeatedly abruptly throws me out, it can then take several attempts to access the stream again. This problem is now so bad it is hardly worth these streams being available. And not to mention the near-30 second length advert you have to put up with before you can (maybe) see the stream - which also happens upon each attempt to access the stream again after having been abruptly disconnected from it. This happens no matter which device I usr the app from - iPad Air 2 or iPhone 12, both running current (most recent) software versions. On another note - as other reviewers have said, can we please not have women’s football shoved down our throats so much? It is being forced on us whether we like it or not (along with the likes of netball and women’s cricket). I wholly agree with the person who is fed up with articles being headed (for example) Manchester United, without any indication it is in fact about the women’s team; this is just not the same sport - and I am female. There should definitely be more notification options available so that women’s sport notifications are not forcibly received.

This app is bloody lousy. Don’t know how many times I have to uninstall this from my phone and iPad because of getting the “We have no information for this currently” error when opening the app and navigating to any sport. It just stops display the news for no seemingly good reason.

Also often times when trying to view videos clip articles or watch highlights you bombard us with unskippable adverts that often last longer then the clip we want to watch. This is unacceptable. I think anyone who is a Sky Sports Customer whether with Sky, Virgin, BT or whomever should be able to log in and get an Ad-agree experience because we’re already paying you enough each month with our subscriptions.

I’m really glad that womens football is being given a better platform and more prominence in the game - it’s long overdue. However we should be given the option to filter womens football and mens football notifications.

It’s confusing to see contradictory push messages when I’m only looking out for mens football alerts. There just needs to be user control over the notifications between the two. I’ve tried to feed this back on the site but it isn’t immediately obvious how to do this about the app so I’ve had to leave a review.

It’s led to me using the app a lot less because I can’t control the content I’m getting pushed through to me.

As ever the content is good due to the amount of rights that Sky has however over recent months the app has become far more buggy. On numerous occasions I am met with a screen saying “we have no information for this currently” and no stories loading. The live feeds section has become massively unreliable to with many times error messages continually appearing preventing any coverage from being watched. Just a few months ago this was never happening so something has been added in recent months to cause this. Sort it out Sky!

Some of the articles are just lies or very bad opinion. There are so many articles that no one cares about. We’re essentially being fed fables and lies to keep us interested in something. So disappointed in the content for the last couple of years now. Even articles that have substance have a lack of clarity and a definite lack of objection to them. Don’t get me started on misleading headlines and quotes. It’s pathetic. And that so many people then form agreement on the lies because it’s the easiest course is embarrassing. Do a little more research and you’ll see that what you read here is mainly for school children. Continually being told what to think about things is awful. Clear lack of middle-ground thinking. Finally: Stop telling everyone that we’re racist when according to the true definition of the word, it cannot exist in 2021!!!

I completely understand you have to lead the way in equality and diversity and that is 100% correct, Sky are fantastic and forward thinking but the way you do it is by sacrificing quality. You chose to lose Le Tiss, Charlie and Tommo, so much experience and great passion you have not replaced, as sky Saturday has lost its spark, I’m sure the viewing numbers have gone down because of this. It does seem sky sports have been ageist in getting rid of such informative hosts.

Maybe when fans, will improve it but you need more knowledgeable and passionate pundits who can articulate their emotions and be funny.

Every video has at least a 30 second ad...and the same ad at that. Trying to go back slightly on a video is frustrating and then as soon as one has finished it goes immediately to an advert so if you want to rewind it...you can’t. If you close your phone for a second assuming you can open it again and pick up where you left off...guess what...it restarts...with the minimum of a 30 second advert and you go back to the beginning of whatever you were watching. Certain type of articles reload if you come out of the app for a second or lock your phone. Poor app. Nearly as poor as the Sky Q box

Have just once again deleted and reinstalled the app due to constant crashing - and for the first time ever I will leave a review of an app I once loved. It used to be so good but it’s now almost unusable due to basic schoolboy design errors. Way too many top level headlines. NFL results hard to find even though the games are shown on the main event channel. Scrolling down the ridiculous amount of headlines often frustratingly returns you back to the top. So easy to click on an advert by mistake. Golf leaderboards take an age to download and crash for fun. World snooker often doesn’t make the 50 headlines although Hurling and Netball often do. Please sort this out. I am Mr Sport and my life is spent watching or playing sport - and the one app that I really need in my life is complete garbage.

Good app to keep up to data with all the ket sports. Problems are that some times it crashes and the analysis is very simplistic.

Furthermore, it lets you choose which sports/teams you are interested in but woke editors increasingly shoehorn in women’s sports higher up than they belong along with their equivalent male sport and you can’t get rid of it e.g. women’s football takes priority over men’s cricket even though the latter is far bigger because the women’s footie has to be ‘equal’ to the men’s. This leads to a lot of spam and ‘emotional’ articles (such as about miscarriage) that frankly have nothing to do with sport.

In addition, as sport becomes increasingly politicised Sky Sports doesn’t cover both angles, just swallowing the BLM narrative whole, even though it is a Marxist and anti-law & order organisation behind the nice slogan.

Seems to have been designed with the intention of being hard to use. Every time you go into it you have to scroll down to find the channel you want, instead of the app remembering or allowing you to choose just the channels you want. I only ever want to watch the F1 channel, so each and every time I have to scroll past all the other stuff.

Also, no listings incorporated, so apart from seeing the “now” and “next” programme names, I’m clueless as to what will be on and when.

Rip it up and start again from scratch. All I want is an app that will let me watch F1 as soon as I open it, and will tell me what’s on tv later. Not too much to ask?

I have just gone to look up champions league fixtures on the sky sports app and noticed all of the fixtures have the odds on there for a win, loss, and draw. I am using the sky sports app and not the sky bet app, therefore I do not expect my fixture list to be clogged with betting odds. It detracts from the ease of use of what the function of that part of the app is there for, and is in attempt of getting someone who isn’t planning on betting to try and bet on the game. Which is frankly disgusting behaviour. Behaviour which could see people lose thousands of pounds of their own money if they get into a downward spiral.

Sky sports, if you have a sense of good morals, please remove this aspect of the app. Not to mention the fact it clogs up the app.

I asked him to explain how Hamilton is black He has a black father and a white mother, that makes him half caste not black not white mixed race.... why do your reporters just think it’s ok to write any old rubbish but the truth. The app itself is fine but only just ‘fine’ the article titles have become nothing but click bait, which I understand to draw people in but often they are misleading. Any clip/video you want to watch had 2 un skippable adverts to start off with, both 30 seconds long. For a 27 second clip they had you sit through 1 minute of adverts to start off, not on at all especially how they have the cheek to throw in another adverts once the clip has ended. The app itself is slow and takes its time to update, could be an internet issue but Iv been on 3 different WiFi’s in the time of using this app and the speed had not improved on any so must be something on their side. Despite the negatives it still provides you with everything you need from a sports app so no complaints there, you just have to have good patience to use it.

This app is very good. But it is important that you include team line ups it’s annoying not being able to see what players are playing. So please can you make a tab under the match you have pressed to see the team line ups. Also there is no live commentary. the original sky sports score centre app should not exist anymore, everything should be intergrated into this app instead.

I absolutely love this app and it’s the first thing I look at when I wake up during the day, but with the amount of money you charge us as customers why do we have to watch an advert every time before any video comes up! It’s commercial greed and absolutely not needed! Last but not least the spelling and the grammar is definitely a problem, it’s horrific and a very bad example to younger children. There are articles that have complete words missing!

Really love the app and use it probably more often then I should!

Couple of little things; the main sport I follow is football and I’m not really interested in other sports so why can’t I personalise my homepage so it’s just football news?

Only other thing I would say is please, if you’re going to force us to watch adverts, please give them more variety!!! I have closed the app many times because I can’t be bothered to watch the same 30 advert for the 5th time in the space of a few minutes!

It then takes about 3 to 4 attempts to start up the app to get the home page to load up and then also happens when hone page has loaded and then I go into the different sports categories. I can’t fault the app really. It’s a great source of information and have great analytical articles on the whatever the current headline story is from a pundit of there choice.

Only improvement I would like to see is when you click on sports you have a list of sports to choose from and you select which sports news you’re after, however it would be great if could rearrange the order of the sports. For example I follow the racing news and have to scroll down all the way to the bottom to view this. Yet formula 1 news which I have no interest in is a second option. As I say a small adjustment that could give the app a more personal feel to it would be great.

I am usually an advocate of adverts; I understand that they support a platform.

HOWEVER, sky have got this totally wrong in their app for any of their video/media playback. On pressing play on videos you’re presented with ads... fine that’s normal... then when you go to maximise or enter the video view after watching the ad, several unbelievably frustrating things happen:

It opens some random video entirely .. and you have to watch the ad again

Then:

You return to the original video ... and you have to watch an ad again!!!

If you want to watch a few vids, you end up in this back and forth portal of ad watching.

Fine with the ads, but your video player just doesn’t work. Enter the video you want and random ones open and you eventually end up perpetually watching ads just to see a 1 minute clip of something.

Terrible user experience. Get this sorted sky !!! You have a enough turnover to get the right user testing and exp done ! Reach out to me and I’ll help... 👎🏼🤦🏽‍♂️

I'd give it zero stars if I could. When first opening the app, it comes up with an error, so I have to manually refresh. Then when going to read articles, an advert from the bottom of the screen comes up and I'm having to click it off, it's frustrating, considering adverts play on video and adverts are placed in articles, why have one constantly needing me to interact with it? Last mail in the coffin; I've apparently reached my device limit, even though I've removed my devices, it still says device limit reached. Cheers Sky, your app developers have ruined it over time

The app itself is fantastic full of information, the layout is great this is the best sports app I have seen.

But here’s the but, as a full sky subscriber I find it very irritating watching 40 seconds of adverts before I can watch a video clip, sometimes the clip is less than the adverts.

I understand that the app needs to funded from these advertisements, but as a subscriber I have already help fund most of the content in the first place.

I think your subscribers should see less or even no adverts when signed into the app with there sky id,

At the moment non sky customers can access the same clips with the same 2 fifteen to twenty second adverts as your subscribers, to me this sounds a little unfair.

Not sure if its bugs but on the live scores menu, when clicking on a match, there are no options to view line up or read live commentary like you can on the iPhone app. Instead to get to the very few live commentary matches that are available, you have to navigate through loads of different menus. ‘My sky sports’ has three news stories that are vaguely related to my team as opposed to a whole section on the iPhone app and finally the ‘watch live’ doesn’t work, i keep getting a ‘something went wrong’ error

Edit: too many ads! As a paying sky customer, I don’t expect to have to watch ads that are longer than the actual video I’m trying to watch

Can’t fault the Sky Sports app itself at all. Regular updates across all sports and with a nice touch of colloquialism to them. Simple user-friendly app to use. HOWEVER…

The improvement needed is on their daily Snapchat bulletins. (I assumed this would be the best place to give a review…). My problem is that they are far too football-orientated. Don’t get me wrong, I am a very keen follower of football. I also firmly understand that football is almost certainly the most popular sport in the country. However, almost every day, each part of the Snapchat update is about football and no other sports.

An example: Just this morning, Alastair Cook announced his retirement from international cricket. He is the greatest English batsman of all time. One would expect Sky Sports to give a lengthy report on this, however it was just one slide with no written story following it. Then it was back to the football based content, regularly featuring clips of Paul Pogba’s social media!

So, Sky Sports, please do some of us a favour and find the right balance of sports content. Cheers!

What a great alternative to the ever buggy awful iPad version of this app. Good riddance to that rubbish. The positives. Great presentation, great user interface, great selection of sports, nearly a perfect app but and a big but, what about red button sports, yes you have championship football and F1 but what about golf or the NFL, or any other sport that is on the red button. Please introduce the red button option for live sport and I’ll be happy but a great sports app but just that update needed.

I’ve been with Sky from the very beginning. But I must say I’m very disappointed with the fact that Jamie Carragher (if that’s the right spelling) is still working for you. Other pundits and presenters got sacked for the actions in previous years and he should have followed. I was also disappointed that you allowed BT sport to get hold of the Champions League and Europe League as I’m not willing to pay twice to watch Football. I’m also surprised that the Media & cultural secretary did not intervene to ensure that some games are on normal television.

I just wish to say that i am over the moon with the new Sky Sports App. Its real easy to use and the streaming of the channels are Excellent standard. I have been able to watch the golf without the stream stopping/freezing after 30+ minutes like the ‘Sky Sports App’ version.

I would like to know if in the next update will it have the feature of making the stream full screen and a volume slider when the screen is tapped on.

I use this app multiple times daily as it’s a great way to keep up to date with the Football news and watch game highlights for EPL, Championship & La Liga games.

In recent updates however they’ve introduced a couple of bugs that need sorting in order to get the app back to 5 stars.

Firstly there are adverts slotted throughout the headline feeds and it’s almost impossible not to accidentally click on them when scrolling through - this then takes you to another page ‘off app’ which is frustrating.

Secondly there is now a giant great black banner on the videos when you watch them in landscape orientation (iPhone 8) which takes up close to quarter of the screen so obscures plenty of the picture in Football replays. From what I can tell this is just to facilitate an exit button, but why this has to take up so much of the screen I don’t know and I wish they’d remove it.

If they can sort out these issues, particularly the second one, it will be a great app once more.

A lot of the stories are fake news with Sky sources saying...in that way it’s a bit like a tabloid. I prefer when the app reports on actual events. Some feature stories are good and others not so, like what’s wrong with...and 10 questions for..again just someone’s opinion to fill an article. There is some great stuff on here and it’s an everyday must read. Perhaps include more Euro football and other leagues in the tables and results section? Finland and Belgium have leagues and results but Czech, Poland, Russia maybe? Good app!

I read the sports news app regularly + I’m amazed at how many basic factual errors appear in the copy. Articles report a team beat another in a previous month when, in fact, the game had been a draw. An article previews a match and talks about the home team when, in fact, they’re going to be playing away. I could go on, but you can see what I mean. Sloppy journalism does you no credit at all.

Hi app is great but, on your phone, notifications are still sent when you follow manu and get goal arsenal, in fact any goals for any team, I don’t care, I support united and wish to get only united notification, not to much to ask.

Headline football news as well I don’t want notifications and they are not even ticked to except, at 515 I don’t need to know that’s goals are available I can watch them any time at my convenience, basically I’m fed up of notifications not tethered to my direct likes,

The last two seasons watching the games is soooooooo frustrating. Having played and watched football all my life I find it infuriating that the camera zooms into the players feet the last 20 yards when he receives the ball on the wing. You can't see players arriving in the box. Once the camera zooms back out you are out of sink with the play. Too Mitch time is taken showing or relive the replays and when it gets back to the game the goal kick has been taken and you miss live play. It's getting like American football coverage. We know who the managers are we don't need to see them every two minutes. WHY DOES THE CAMERA ALWAYS LOOK AWAY IF IT LOOKS LIKE A PLAYER MAY REACT BADLY TO A CHALLENGE OR DECISION BY THE REF. WE PAY TO SEE THE FOOTBALL AND WHAT HAPPENS ON THE PITCH. The second half starts and then you decide to put the teams across the screen. If there has been a substitution we will see it. Really is frustrating enough to cancel subscription and just watch match of the day.
