Description

OnSong is the best app for musicians. Get ready to prepare, practice and perform with ease. OnSong 2020 is the original version and contains pro-level features for continued use. This app lets you subscribe to OnSong Premium for the first six-months free to access even more advanced features.
ALWAYS READY
Import and build your library of chords and lyrics. Built-in support for Dropbox, Google Drive, SongSelect, Planning Center, and more to work the way you do. Even scan your paper charts directly¹. OnSong supports text-based chord charts, Adobe PDF and other file types you can import from any supporting app like Safari. OnSong Console¹ lets you manage your library from your Mac or PC in any web browser. Whether you have ten or ten-thousand songs in your repertoire, it's always lightweight and mobile so you can play anytime, anywhere.
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
Play more gigs with planning made easy. Pull your set lists in moments and gather the band. Transpose, capo, and format your text-based chord charts to look just right and then annotate or draw¹ on the page to make special notes. When you're all done, share wirelessly with your team in real-time, or print, email, or export too. OnSong is as flexible as it is powerful.
BUILT FOR PERFORMANCE
OnSong is built for the stage. Tap to turn pages or go hands-free with wireless foot pedals or intelligent autoscrolling. No more clumsy page turning on cluttered music stands. Every aspect of the song is at your fingertips. Assign tempo and time signature for a reassuring click, sing a cappella with a digital pitch pipe, link to backing tracks to play along, or even send MIDI events to automate your stage¹, all without complicated or confusing equipment.
BE SEEN AND HEARD
OnSong features powerful video features that go well beyond other apps. Display lyrics on a projector or an HDTV with a video adapter, AppleTV, or Google Cast-compatible device. Compose custom backgrounds with still or motion graphics, or live video¹ feeds for dynamic performances. Stay on the same page with your band with confidence monitors you control on-stage. While you're at it, run stage lighting too¹. OnSong is the ultimate creative tool for musicians.
PREMIUM MEANS MORE POWER
While OnSong 2020 has many of the features you need, there are a few that are only available with a Premium subscription. You get a six-month free trial when you sign up in the app.

OnSong is presently unreliable

Since the release of 2020.8 OnSong appears to have become less reliable. Prior to that it was sound. However, since that release there appears to be a raft of problems all of which have served to undermine my confidence in this product.

This app was working fine, it now keeps crashing and I can’t get it to work! It crashed just when I was about to start my Sunday service! Worst thing ever, anyway that didn’t stop the worship going on but I don’t know why it won’t open, some help would be great.

Version 2018.1
I’ve been using OnSong for nearly 5 years now and I just seem tom find more and more issues where it just can’t do the basics well. From just viewing songs, to remembering your zoom setting (even though it’s turned on) it has fallen dramatically.
Now with this recent update, all my documents are now misaligned zoomed way in.
Final straw. Need to transition to a new platform.

Version 2020.0
I bought Onsong six years ago for a one time low price and the support was great. Recently they’ve moved to a subscription only model and all of the best features and things that we had been requesting have been added to the new subscription model only. Since then the support for the basic version that I’ve got has dropped off the edge of a cliff. It’s very sad that the developers have cashed in and made money their goal rather than supporting the customers and product. I still love Onsong but if I have a problem it takes absolutely months to get any answers or anything fixed.

I've been using OnSong for many years now, love the autoscrolling, instant keychange and export features. It's easy to set up new songs, and it's a handy tool when composing arrangements too.
It's just annoying that with every new version of iOS that OnSong are not prepared and tell users to hold back on updating until they give the "all clear".

I was very sceptical about purchasing OnSong - after purchasing some of the other cheaper options. And I have to say OnSong has blown it out of the water. This app is phenomenal and I couldn’t be without it. It does everything and more, worth every penny.

Version 2020.5
OnSong is a brilliant aid for any musician. Save your songs alphabetically or numerically, by title or by artist. Share songs with other members in your group, make gig lists - it takes seconds to beam them across to each other. Change chords, make written, or post it notes ..... I’ll say no more..... Just read the tutorial to find out all the benefits of this great app. I certainly couldn’t be without it.

Version 2018.4
Since the subscription model was created, OnSong removed functions I had paid for and used (drawing) and decided for me which 2 of the 4 available addons I can use (MIDI and scenes - ones I never used). I can’t log in, can’t register as their website can’t deal with that apparently. I’m stuck with an app with half the functionality. Contacted the OnSong customer support weeks ago and received no reply.

I usually don’t submit reviewed but feel this one is warranted. The App itself does what I want and quite happy with it when I had it working , however after submitting a ticket to support it’s takes weeks for a response, and that’s not a one off either it’s been on many occasions.

Version 2019.12
I play a lot of live gigs but I am not good at remembering lyrics. OnSong installed on my iPad , along with an AirTurn foot pedal has made my life SO much easier.
It is easy to copy and paste the lyrics onto the OnSong app (or type them straight in) and then scroll down the lyrics with the foot pedal as you are playing . If I need a reminder, the lyrics are there at that moment of panic when I can’t remember what the next verse/ line is.
I only scratch the surface, OnSong can do so much more, but for me it is perfect ........

Version 2020.7.8
OnSong is a fantastic app for musicians, I use it to play my backing tracks and scroll lyrics. It can also control all my guitar pedal board via midi as well as program and control my dmx lights. Yes there is a small amount to pay for add ins like dmx control etc but well worth the money and allows me to control my hole show with the tap of a Bluetooth pedal.

Version 2020.7
I’ve been using OnSong for about 7 years now, and it keeps getting better! It’s not just the most useful/used app I own, but it is also the best supported. Recent changes in iOS14 and to the business model (Premium) may have caused a few glitches which can only be expected in such a sophisticated piece of software but the response of the developers to the issues raised has been nothing short of heroic. No matter how obscure the function, every effort has been made to find a fix quickly. I’m not aware of any other app that has this level of support. Most times if an app has a problem the choices are either to work around or to walk away. Or maybe wait months/years for a fix. The OnSong team are super responsive and more than justify the extra costs of the Pro and premium versions. The online support is also excellent with the developers personally engaged, providing advice to end-users on their social media page. So not just a brilliant (and powerful) app, but also with fantastic support. Highly recommended!

This It’s a very comprehensive app and I probably use less than 10% of its capabilities but for my situation it’s proved invaluable. The recent iOS update has thrown up some issues but the guys at OnSong have been very helpful and quick to respond.
I would recommend it to anyone involved in live stage, or worship-leading.

Update - all seems fine now with this latest update.
Since the latest update every time I open the app I get a screen asking me to creat an account. What’s that all about?!
I’ve been a user for many years and have never wanted or needed to creat an account, so please stop insisting that I do so. As good as Onsong is, if I have to navigate past the 'Create Your Account' screen every time I open the app I’ll be looking for an alternative.
Looking forward to it disappearing soon.

Version 2020.7.11
As a one man band had great expectations of this app but boy o boy such complexity. It has taken weeks to get to grips with it especially getting midi foot switches to work (BT Positive grid).
In my view the authors do not seem to have appreciated that a “song” can have more component parts than those prescribed in this app, multiple backing tracks for one set of lyrics as an example, sure there are work around but at what effort.
The recent move to a subscription based offering with such a high cost scrubsit out for me.

Always found this a great app, but this glitch with latest update is causing serious problems with myself and many others. I have been using OnSong for 10 years now. It has been able to meet every need in my live performances. Music binder replacement, lyrics sharing, MIDI control of all equipment, MIDI control of Video software, controlling lighting software, playing backing tracks, even projection of lyrics and announcements before during and after a gig! Over the years it has always added new features that integrate even the latest technologies! All apps should be this good!
Thanks guys!

On a positive note I like the OnSong product - it is well designed and has a lot of very useful features BUT .....
Since I updated to the latest release (2020.5) I have found that the scrolling function using the Timeline feature does not work properly and cannot be used in a live scenario. I have submitted a ticket and have joined their Beta test team for the 2020.6 Beta release but so far the issues has not been fixed and I am not getting any feedback from the OnSong team. Not Impressed....

I am a basic user of OnSong in that I use it for chord charts and I am so impressed with the way it works. I have had very few problems, most of which I could resolve myself using the Manual. On the one occasion I couldn’t the support was superb. the problem I had was on the update when premium came in, I am not a premium user. I lost the drawing tool, which is very useful. It wold not verify on the App Store. To be fair, I think this was more of problem with the App Store, but OnSong support fixed the problem very quickly. Very impressive.

Save trees. Buy OnSong. I have over 700 songs in my onsong library. Imagine carrying all that paper! Dead easy to import and edit songs. Console makes this even better but I do most editing on the ipad. I only scratch the surface as I don’t use midi or audio tracks. For band rehearsal I mirror the ipad to a tv screen and everyone uses that. I can then edit there and then so we have the song arranged and ready to go there and then. Great tech support too. Not that I’ve need it much.

I’ve been using OnSong for several years both in a band and for solo performances. Don’t know what I’d do without it now. Not only does it manage my repertoire and provide the guitar chords, it can play my backing tracks and scroll in sync with lines in the lyrics. It can also send MIDI messages to my Voicelive Harmonizer and Helix stomp box as soon as I choose a song so that I don’t have to mess around on stage to get my sound right. admittedly, I don’t use half of the features provided. Best money I ever spent,

I’ve moved from a sheet music app.
Wanted to get more into condensed chord sheets but I also needed the ability to control midi events.
This software allows me to do all that.
I especially love the console feature which allows be to work on songs on a web browser. I can backup at home and restore on my iPhone and take it away with me. Then reverse the process when I’m back in my studio room.
Currently subscribed to premium for a year to see how this all works out for me.
Only 4 stars because the team are constantly looking to improve therefore even they know there’s room to get better

It's okay, had an issue but a reinstall worked. (Don't forget to backup your songs, there's plenty of options!)
Glad I was an early adopter for the prices they charge now. Plus a monthly fee now. I'm not sure I'd buy it for £25/30 which maybe isn't enough as they now charge monthly too for extra features.
What it does, it does well. It's really helpful in our group to share song sets and change keys for songs. As an app I'd recommend it, but at these prices, I'd maybe look around if I was in the market for an chord organiser.

I’ve been using this since the release for so many things; chorded music- no more music folders
Sheet music stored as PDF - no more Music books
Lyric projection - through an Apple TV (connected to dedicated apple router and works perfect every time).
Any small issues I’ve had in the past have been quickly sorted through the tech team and the FREE UPDATES through the years have been fantastic and greatly appreciated.
This has been a transformational app, our whole praise team at church use it now and it’s worth every penny

A fairly expensive app that isn’t very intuitive use, I was disappointed to find out after purchase the the first example of the app shows the colour highlight section which isn’t even included in the price! This followed by an announcement within a couple of weeks that the price is getting discounted by 30% but not the two extra items that I would need to complete the package that in any case is no longer going to be the flagship product. I would have appreciated a bit more thought for those of us who have just invested in this package especially to enable them to enjoy full use.

Excellent, just one reservation.

Onsong is an excellent app, allowing easy keychanges, autoscrolling, colour customisation, chords for different instruments (and configurable chords for those that are missing). Synchronisation to your other iOS devices via DropBox is great and the Console feature is brilliant for editing using a browser on a computer.
I use the app constantly for performance, over 400 songs in there so far.
Being non-religious, the menus for worship songs are a bit irritating, it would be great if these could be removed for those of us who don’t need them. One less star for that.

I bought an iPad and downloaded this app and spent some time learning how to use it so that we could gig without having to bring a big paper folder full of songs and charts... I spent hours putting our songs onto the app, but now I find they’ve all gone. The app has disappeared or glitched them out of existence for apparently no reason. When the app works it’s great, but I don’t know whether I can trust it when performing yet.

Great app.

Really easy to use, and the key transposer is a really useful tool when importing from tab sites etc.
Would recommend highly

A disappointing app, to be honest. Please bear in mind that this is a SUBJECTIVE view of this app based on personal experience. Other people may have had rather more luck. I hope they have.
I wanted an app to store songs, scroll them and transpose keys, as the app claimed it would do.
OK- songs can be stored and scrolled, but if in ‘Set’ format, it automatically jumps to the next song when it finishes one.
Problem 1. Rather a waste of time trying to add chords, because when the app saves them, they don’t stay where you put them, and move around all over the place.
Problem 2. The app does not appear to be able to transpose songs into different keys.
Problem 3. One false move and your songs are all deleted, as I have found out to my cost.
Problem 4. The so-called back-up does not work.
Sorry to be so negative, but this app has failed to make any impression.

Very very good

This is by far and away the is most useful App I have bought for the iPad and have recommended it to all who will listen.
Finally the weighty bag of folders has gone!
Creating native files can be time consuming and fiddly on the iPad, and I found the console add-on worth the money to edit on a browser on a Mac or PC. The import functions and songselect integrations are (in my opinion) a bit messy and I prefer to stick with native files.
Connecting and sharing sets with others is very handy - but occasionally temperamental when trying to find other users.

Awful Set Up

Although OnSong works fine ......... getting it up and running is a nightmare! Having to use Dropbox to input files is a nonsense and once you’ve done this, editing is unbelievably cumbersome! In 2019 to have an interface that is not WYSIWYG beggars belief. I spent literally hours organising my material and I still have chords that resolutely refuse to display in a different colour despite countless attempts. Rather than a straightforward online manual, they have created lots of online videos. These are time-consuming to trawl and watch with no guarantee that the particular problem you may be trying to solve is addressed. Some years ago, I messaged them and asked that they include a simple fix to allow a chord chart to display as a fixed item in the corner of the screen whilst lyrics could be scrolled simultaneously underneath them. Chord charts are the way very many pro musicians work and they have no need for the displaying of chords directly above the lyric line. The inclusion of this facility along with a root & branch rethink of the editing would make this a useful app for the gigging musician to use as an on-stage aide memoire. OnSong, at the moment requires a great deal of frustrating time and effort for it to function effectively. AF

Soooo good!!!

I don’t usually write reviews but this app definitely deserves one. Have been using the app for probably about 2 years now and I’m so impressed. At first I didn’t want to spend the big price tag on it but it’s well worth the money. I am in bands and also have an acoustic duo which is what I use it for the most. The team behind OnSong are great. They are always updating the app and are quick to respond to queries and fix any issues. Top job!!

Couldn’t manage without this app!

I play in a worship band and have been using OnSong for several years now. It has transformed my life as I no longer have to cart cart loads of music around. I also love the fact I can transpose the songs into whatever key the worship leader decides to sing in and also save the sets! So easy. I am still learning, but it is certainly one of the best apps I have! Just wish that I could import PDF’s and then save them into the OnSong format so they can be transposed. It doesn’t seem to have that facility unless I am not doing it right!!
I had to ask support about backing up yesterday, and they were back to me in a flash. Great service!
Thank you OnSong. Brilliant!

Pricey, but it IS my go to app!

I have used OnSong for a couple of years now. I am a member of a number of very varied bands. For some I need lyrics, for some I need the dots, or a mixture of the two. I use it on an iPad Mini 4, which has worked well up to now, though at age 72 maybe I should upgrade to a larger screen. But the usefulness of OnSong is beyond reproach. I have just got back home from an a capella choir session, pretty much sight reading the music. I can’t think of a better program for this kind of professional work.
I have a number of different apps, and I use them all. Newzik, Reflow and Notion 6 are all on the pad, and get use. But for gigs, nothing comes close to OnSong with an AirTurn pedal.

No AppleTV support???

Word to the developers really. I love the app and use it often in conjunction with songs select. Are use it when I’m out and about in other churches and hear a song I don’t know. I look it up and added to my list which is really great. I also use it for private and corporate worship.
However, no Apple TV support for casting lyrics to a TV screen? Can that be true? Am I missing something? It looks like there is support for chrome cast. But just cannot get it to work with the latest Apple TV and I’ll software. Any suggestions or is that going to be fixed. This is a big feature that needs to be fixed or added.

Needs a facility to reverse to previous version

This is a superb app, make no mistake about that, but right now, I am dead in the water when putting new songs into the app because of a bug on the last update. I cannot extract text to place the song into the onsong format. The frustrating thing is, on their website they say the next update has a fix for this problem, but because it’s not released yet, there is nothing That can be done. UNACCEPTABLE!
I should be able to rollback to previous update. Please look into this.

Pricey, but best of the bunch and recent updates impressive

Not cheap, but very capable and versatile app. Later updates very welcome and significantly improved the interface - keep up the good development guys.
Would still love option for columns and viewing 2 songs side by side (this would be great for larger screens). And if you use 2 devices, keeping changes to your song library synced across both devices is very tricky (no iCloud support yet) - that’s probably all that puts me off 5*.

Utterly brilliant

Have used OnSong sing it first came out. A brilliant tool for all live performance as my capacity for remembering chords and lyrics begins to fade. But it actually encourages you to try songs out live more quickly. Great support from the exceptionally responsive OnSong team. My only gripe is that the song storage is not cloud based (so I can sync easily between iPhone and iPad) but I think this is due to copyright issues. Overall a masterpiece in its category. Don't sell out!!!

This app is needed by all musicians. It is probably the best app I have ever purchased and I haven't even got into 90% of what it is capable of doing, but so far it is more than than I can handle without my brain hurting too much. Brilliant thank you.
The service from the technical department is excellent, not that you will need it much, but they are great.

Awesome

This is an awesome software product. I have been able to dispose of my binder full of lyrics and sheet music and substitute them with my iPad and this fantastic software. Check out this fabulous program. You will not be disappointed I promise you. An expensive way to do it (not the software but the iPad) but a great product I would recommend to anyone for live performances. Makes you lazy but hey…. MAL (Newcastle UK)

I am an acoustic guitarist/singer and have used OnSong for a number of years. I play to a lot of the same people (familiar faces) each week and I find it indispensable in helping me to rotate songs from the 1000+ I have stored on my iPad mini, to try and keep things fresh. If I am asked to play a particular song, in general it is there, readily available, scrolling with chords displayed, easy key chord/change, capo position, sticky note reminders, colouring of lyrics to highlight particular lines, words, sections etc. I rely on it so much that if 'it', or my iPad, were to fail then there would be no point in me turning up on the night! The added features of linking it automatically to my Irig Blueboard pedal via Bluetooth is also easy, and if I am using a backing track through Onsong, it starts scrolling automatically when I kick-in the backing track. Storing my backing tracks through Onsong on the same IPad means the amount of gear I need to hump around is reduced as the iPad fits in my guitar case with just a long mini-jack lead required to the PA. I have only touched on a small number of the features available but if I think of another feature that I need it is usually already there in Onsong for me to use. Any app is only as good as its support and the support I have received over the years is second to none, fast, accurate and personable. Best app on my iPad without a doubt!

Many app companies, not least OnSong, have been struggling to deal with the problems of Apples iOS 11 system. After contacting them, they gave me a temporary fix for the live performance problems and expect to have a new OnSong update edition available very soon. I can only say that as far as customer service goes, it doesn’t get any better....instant and comprehensive. This is a great app for live performers and I thoroughly recommend it.

Yes, this app costs a tad more that a lot of others. However, it's worth so much more. The app itself is stunningly good but where it stands alone is in the quantity and quality of the help and tutorial support. Other app providers could learn a lot from this company.
This idea of using my iPad for my song sheets is new to me, I have been faffing around with huge files of printed sheets for years. This is going to make my life so much easier. I still cannot quite believe an app of such complexity could be so straight forward to use. Brilliant.

I never leaves feedback, but...

I absolutely love this app!
I've been using OnSong since January 2017 and having all my music on my iPad is amazing. It makes it easy to carry around with me and if one of the worship leaders makes a change I can find the relevant song in seconds rather than routing through a heavy, cumbersome folder of nearly 300 songs.
It's easy to plan my own sets for Sundays adding songs, removing them and changing the order, as well as add in other leaders keeping everything together and easily accessible. I've set up a folder for each worship leader for their weekly sets so it's easy to keep an eye on what we're doing and ensure we don't use the same songs too often.
I love the ability to add post it notes to various sheets with different notes on for individual songs and I still can't believe how easy it is to use with any problems easily solved using the in app help and tutorials
My only problem came a few months ago with one of the updates but again I can't praise the in app help enough. On this occasion I actually had to contact OnSong (via the app) for help and was "talked" through what I needed to do via email. Everything was resolved extremely quickly especially given the different time zones!
I've tried other set list apps and this really is the best, I can't praise it enough. It might be a bit more expensive than others out there but rest assured it really is worth it.

The best app on the App Store!!!!!

I literally believe this is the best app on the App Store, let alone my iPad. It is a must have for any musician and/or ,especially, worship leaders.
Great for gigs, practice, etc... a huge time saver and a paper saver to. You can also transpose up or down however much you want.
Brilliant app, hope it flourishes and and gets better than it already is, if it where possible =D

The best part of my set up!

I love this app - a lot. Its transformed my experience as a mediocre musician who can't key change in her head, its given me the ability to add atmospheric pads at the touch of a button to give our band's sound more depth, it keeps track of what songs we do for our CCLI report - its just brilliant! There is so much to OnSong - I've used it for over a year now and I've only scratched the surface. I use a blueboard to control the ipad during our church services - and its fantastic. I also run the pads from it and use an expression pedal with the blueboard to control volume. The links in to CCLI Song Select, Rockin with the Cross etc is a brilliant way to get your music, and best of all - if you can't play your standard set it Eb, you can transpose it with a few clicks! Well worth every penny :)

Excellent!!

Can't speak highly enough of this app. Use it most weeks in church and through the week also. So handy to have all my songs in one place and the different things you can do with them is very convenient. Highly recommended!
