After using this app happily for a few years it has suddenly started not opening properly. I get half a screen and it is no longer fit for purpose. I wonder what my chances of getting a refund are.

Not recommended
Bought this as it is RSPB. Disappointing. Pictures are tired, monodimensional and old fashioned. No help to find a bird you don’t know. Information is good but I think there are better apps to help your enjoyment.

Out of date. Lots of common birds missing. List is pointless so much missing. Pictures are embarrassing for this day and age.
Do yourself a favour and go for the Collins guide UK or Europe if you are a more serious birder. BirdGuides is a great tool for lists
and tell you were the birds are.
This app should be aimed at children for 99p Not £6.99

Best money I have ever spent
I have had this app for many years and it must be the best £6 odd I have ever spent. So useful in the field or anywhere. Pictures and recordings of songs/calls as well as all the information you would need to understand a bit more about the particular species.

Good for experienced and beginner birder.
I've been a keen birder for very many years. This has proven to be an excellent app for my iPhone. It covers most British birds and has plenty of detail with decent images and sound files. Highly recommended!

A bad book on a digital platform - why bother?
Since the best, in my mind, birding app. Twitcher was discontinued I've been trying to find something at least it's equal. I still haven't. This eGuide kicks off with the blandest home page you've seen since the Spectrum was launched. Nowhere does it give any help at all in identifying birds. You've got to know what bird you're looking at before you get a picture. There's no Google maps location facility, no "sightings" list - it's boring, bland and bleak and, in making no use of digital functionality, is no better than a small reference book. Wish I hadn't bought it.

Incorrect screen resolution since update
Since the latest update, the app displays itself on the left side of the screen as it is not optimised for an iPhone 6S Plus or 7 Plus.
For the cost of the app, this is an eliminatory thing to have gotten wrong - especially as it worked before the update.
Maybe focus in the fundamentals and worry less about changing the app's icon!

Expert information
Those who have given this app a bad review clearly did not research what they wanted from it in the first place. The RSPB book is the best and this, with the ability to add sightings and bird songs with excellent maps follows in every way. This is going to make research wherever I go, simple. Top notch app.

Dissappointing
I wish I'd read some of the other reviews... As others have said, this is absolutely useless for ID'ing birds, as the only way you'll find any information on or see photos of a bird species is to first select its name in a text based list.

Gutted!!
Spent a fiver for an app that assumes I already know the birds I paid to identify. I mean, if I already knew the damn bird I wouldn't want an app that calls itself the eguide to British birds, right? I deleted this app within minutes of purchasing it, and bought Bird ID for £2.99 instead. Guess what? I found my bird as well as found out that for less money Bird ID does more.

Not Good For Identifying Birds
As others have written, this app really is not good at helping a person identify a bird. This app seems to assume you know what bird you have seen. I had rather hoped that for an app that would guide me along in identifying what I have seen.
For example, the other day I saw a bird carrying a sheep of in its hoofs. It had a short curved beak, wings curve backwards like a swallow aircraft. It's predominant colour was brown, it had a roundish head and beady eyes.
So... I would hope that I would be guide through by being asked questions and shown basic outline shapes. E.G.
QU 1. Size
QU 2. Wing shape (you pick from some outlines)
QU 3. Head shape
QU 4. Beak shape
QU 5. Tail feathers long, medium or short?
QU 6. Predominant colour
QU 7. Patch colours
QU 8. Wing underside colours
QU 9. Length of legs
QU 10. Location type (hill, sea, loch, flatland, in a hedge, swamp etc)
And any other relevant questions.
As for the bird that I did see, I worked out that it was not a penguin.

Disappointing an buggy
This is little more than a list and not much use when trying to identify a bird unless you want to scroll through endless pages. Badly laid out, poor pictures, and occasionally crashes. In desperate need of updates as it's very buggy.
On the plus side, it has lots of bird call recordings. Expected more for my fiver.

Great app but...
Brilliant app, great pictures and detailed descriptions but badly needs a habitat search option ie:woodland, wetland,shore etc,would be much easier to locate a bird by the environment you're in especially for beginners like me, hopefully an upgrade version soon, would still highly recommend.

Excellent ad hoc mobile resource
I love it, worth the money. £1.50 goes to RSPB so I learned on their website. I don't always have a bird book out with me when I suddenly, wherever I am, decide to go out for a country walk and it works offline. Very good illustrations, photographs in addition would make it better. They just need an app showing where all the RSPB reserves are like the Wildlife Trust do for their reserves.

Must have for birders!
A fantastic, value for money, handy app for all birders.
Great information, distribution maps, pictures and sounds of each British bird.
It also allows you to plot your sightings whenever, wherever you are, along with where you saw them, date and other notes.
£4.99 well spent!

Brilliant!
My absolute favourite app. As an earlier reviewer stated, you do need a working knowledge of birds in order to make the most of the birdsong element of the app. But it's easy to use, great to be able to compare different birds and I wouldn't be without it!

Comprehensive app...
This is a very good app, however it is dependent on your skill as a birder. For novices this app is great, particularly the comparison feature and sound feature but only if used in conjunction with a good bird guide. This is because you browse by name and not image, therefore you have to have a good knowledge already. For intermediate to advanced birders this is a fun app that may not include rare species but has a good overall base of birds and the sound and other features make this a great app for teaching others. All in all very recommended for everyone, although it is a bit pricey- though in my opinion worth the money.
