My Net Diary - Diabetes version

Brilliant app! It makes it very easy to keep a check on the amount of calories consumed, exercise done and also blood sugar levels throughout the day. It is very easy to check out calories while on the go and also serves to keep a check on how much you eat - a sort of permanent Jiminy Cricket, acting as your conscience! Can't recommend this highly enough!

Excellent app

This app is very good, the only thing is, as I cook most of my food from fresh ingredients there is no barcode to scan , so it would be helpful if within the app you could ask what the calories are for ,apples carrots ,all kinds of vegetables and fruits, fresh meats home made stews and sauces etc ,

Close, but no cigar!

As a T1 British diabetic, I was pleased that this app seemed to cover most of the Cho/Insulin/BG recording it is our lot to perform (as well as a lot of other information) in a UK format. It's also handy that it sync's across devices and has a web presence.
The food database, while being of an American base, has included a lot of UK foodstuffs and there is this option of sending supermarket products in for review and addition, so the whole db is growing.
My only criticism is that the reporting options are very limited and there doesn't appear to be a way of exporting the raw data into a csv format to manipulate one's own reports.

Expensive, needs improvements, geared around T2's

I have tried several diabetes apps (DiabetesApp, Track 3 etc) and found this app to have the most features under 1 umbrella. Unfortunately the app seems to be geared around T2's with track calories/weight on virtually every screen whilst the requirements of a T1 take second place or completely forgotten. Plus points from a T1 perspective are the ability to deal in net carbs for meals, specify weights of food and the ability to log BG/insulin. The food list is good for the uk and most barcodes scan well. Custom foods & recipes are handled poorly. It is one of the most expensive apps though and given other apps handle certain features better for less (or even free!) I have given you only 1 star. For the shortcomings the price is disappointing. I can only hope the developers are accommodating to customer requests to make this app better.
Of the features I've tried here's what need to be improved:
1a) Custom recipes are handled poorly. You can only make a recipe within a meal and once created the recipe is dumped into the main food search making it difficult to remember what you made. There is no separate listing to see created recipes, pre-define new recipes, edit or delete. It is difficult to input a recipe exactly when you are having a meal, it takes time to enter! You cannot DELETE unused/incorrect recipes. You make a recipe by adding all the ingredients into a meal, then pull them into the recipe. Existing recipes can be pulled in giving a recipe within a recipe which is bizarre.
DiabetesApp & Daily Carb handle recipes MUCH better with a separate list of pre-defined recipes.
1b) Certain recipe naming conventions cannot be found again once created e.g "XX - XXXXXX"
2)Custom foods work the same as recipes & can only be made within a meal you area about to have. Again no separate list to pre-define, edit or delete. DiabetesApp & Daily Carb handle custom foods MUCH better with a separate list of pre-defined custom foods.
3)you can't add photos to custom foods if not using PhotoFood (adding information myself) why is this? All other apps allow this
4)can't access photo library rather than taking new photo for PhotoFood custom entries
5) currently, to see the time a meal was entered/ate from the main menu you have to go into meals, then your particular meal (breakfast, lunch etc) and pickup the time from the individual foods. I know you can see the time in diabetes overview but this is still not easy to see on the cuff.
For a T1 the most useful information by line under meals on the main screen should be:
--------
Time of last meal: net carbs
Total net carbs for day
--------
This setup should be configurable.
6a)the main screen is highly cluttered and BLOATED with a lot of "features" that people may not want. I myself do not care to see 80% of these (food check, Facebook, water, invite friends???). It's too much garbage to take in the important stuff. Can we have an option to hide some of these in settings?
6b)In addition to 6a there is very little use for a T1 to track calories as is currently on the main screen (X last meal, Y remaining). As per item 5, an option to configure this for net carbs would be good. Same applies for Apple Watch users.
7)No way to add quick net carbs for a meal. Essential for a T1 who may not want to go through the rigamarole of adding a complex custom food but knows the net carbs. (This is critical feature that has been missed which every other app I've tested has). The flame button for quick add calories is directed at people with T2, again T1 requirements are forgotten. Please make configurable to add net carbs.
8)Food search is messy, no split between common foods and branded. (This is very annoying)
9)Foods are entered into "favourites" automatically but sometimes are not. I get the automatic favourites thing is supposed to be convenient but why is there no manual add button to supplement? Most other apps have this
10)Some searched foods only given in oz meaning a side conversion is necessary to get into grams. E.g pomegranate. Grams are the units used in the UK not oz. This would be fine if there was a way to edit foods manually and add in the data but annoyingly there is not, only the daft PhotoFood update. Shall I take a photo of a pomegranate and send it to you?
11) No option to add a note to a meal, this is CRITICAL!!! perhaps I didn't finish the meal? We NEED to make notes about food but this feature is absent where all other apps have it.
12)Diabetes overview. Not configurable to user needs. The current time slots make it VERY DIFFICULT to spot trends as meals/medication can span more than 1 time interval but not the next day. Im forever flicking between days/times to see how a meal effected me. A full day view option on one screen (time scrolling vertically) would make it much easier to spot trends (complete with BG, insulin, meals, notes).
13)Reporting from diabetes overview is a SHAMBLES and completely non-configurable. Weekly report is difficult to read because of time slots issue above. Consider a report with time on the vertical axis. Email report does not show meals like weekly report. Email report has incorrect Insulin symbols showing red blood drops instead of blue (Hard to distinguish against BG entries). Cant zoom out to analyse email report. Email report time slots make it VERY DIFFICULT for doctors to interpret. Again consider a vertical time system or horizontal with bigger time intervals. This should all be customizable to the user but is not. There is no option to display daily/weekly averages at the foot of the report e.g average fasting, after meal blood sugars etc. There is currently no intelligence in food/BG/medication labelling for reporting options.
14)Editing time interval labels does not work at all!! (Blank screen)
All in all this app is bloated and missing/failing on a few critical features. Go take a look at the Track3 app, it's nice and SLIM and does all the above but unfortunately doesn't deal in net carbs.
PLEASE FIX!!!!

Quite Good but!

It does most of what I want it to do, but it would be an improvement if the system could add barcodes to the data base. I also feel that the charge to allow my Fitbit to merge data is a bit much.

Great App

This App is what every diabetic should have, easy to use , info can be send to doctor or enchronologist. Can store info on computer and keep records also. A wider range of foods for different countries could be added. Then this app would be perfect. Also should be promoted by diabetic helper with their blood glucose meter as they go hand in hand.👍👍👍👍

Rubbish

App says it is suitable for gestational diabetes but it really isn't. When setting it up it asks for your target weight. Being pregnant and a healthy BMI I don't want to lose weight but it doesn't let you skip this. I am meant to eat 200cals extra per day but it doesn't allow this to be added to the target calories. My gestational diabetes is controlled by diet only and knowing how many carbs is in a food item is crucial and yet it doesn't tell you the amount of carbs when doing a food search. I am not interested in calories, if I wanted to diet I would use My Fitness Pal which is far superior. Biggest waste of money I have ever spent and would give it 0 stars if I could.

Used to be good but swollen with brands

I have used this software for a couple of years in which it has declined severely. The main problem is all the home made foods have been replaced by thousands if brands from many countries - many you will never see. The result is I can't enter basic home made food - try a ham sandwich - 50 brands, little description, and no way of knowing what is closest to what you have eaten. Software almost useless as a result. Bye.

Very useful

I have found this to be the most comprehensive and useful of the various trackers and carb/calorie nutrition guides that I have tried so far.
My only concern before I downloaded it was that it might be too specific for users in the USA, but it's actually good for UK users too.

Very useful

Having been recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes I thought I'd best start a food diary before seeing the NHS nutritionist. This is really handy, I rapidly upgraded to the website as well which is invaluable for making custom foods and recipes. I'm not sure yet if my diet is correct but it has greatly improved and all the info will be there for the nutritionist when they need it.

My Net Diary Diabetes Tracker

I'd give this 4.5/5 if I could. Simple to use. Great for carb counting. Would be fantastic if a uk version were made available to avoid any confusion surrounding total carbohydrate. Barcode scanner doesn't work with shorter barcode a that some uk retailers use.

Excellent App

I have just been diagnosed with type 2 and given a lot of information that I couldn't take in all at once. I stumbled across this app and downloaded it and it has made my life so much easier. It records your blood sugar ( along with a multitude of other things if you want to record those ), it tells you the nutritional value of what you have eaten along with the sugar content. I would recommend this App to anyone who is diabetic ( or like myself anyone who has just recently been diagnosed and is struggling to get to grips with the condition ) as it makes controlling the condition much easier.

Excellent app

I had already managed to lose 7kg by using sister app mynetdiary before being diagnosed with diabetes 2. By using app I have managed to control my glucose levels to less than 7mmol/l most times and brought my HBA1c down from 65 to 51 in just 2 months. I would like to see an option to sort and edit my favourite foods though.

Wonderful

Having been recently diagnosed with diabetes, I was writing lots of information down but this app does it all for me! I had the free version and was hooked within 2 days of using and bought the full version. Double price for the diabetes version is a bit steep over the normal version but still worth every penny.

Really helpful

This is a very complete app, would be great if it could integrate with apps like Runkeeper or iBGstar as there is a little duplication of work there.
If you have the iBGStar app then the Diabetes version isn't worth the additional out lay (in my opinion) and you should stick with the Pro version.
Really helpful with the tracking and calorie counting.
