Crosswords
I confess I only really read the ES for the crossword, but am consistently let down by the app. Typing clues in leads to a zoomed in screen because it registers as a double tap, or the crossword itself isn’t scaled to the screen properly. I know it’s free as is the paper, but if these small issues are fixed it would improve my overall experience

For a media business this is a disgrace!
Keeps giving me an application error and suggests that I check my internet connection. Guess what, there is nothing wrong with it. The only way to get the app to work is to delete it and reinstall. Not exactly what you want to be doing all the time. Do not subscribe to this app. It is a waste of your time. UPDATE - still absolutely rubbish

I read the evening standard everyday and this app frankly is pretty poor, constantly glitchy and seems to crash loads. Disappointing as I was excited to see the updated version but I think it’s got worse then the previous app.

A bit fiddly.
Not as easy to navigate as other newspaper apps. Whatever you may think of their politics,both the Mail on Line and the Daily Mail Plus are very user friendly.
This one is far more fiddly. Not a pleasure to use.

Not nearly as good as Metro newspaper edition
When reading page the words are small you have to make it bigger .. it should be normal size so you don’t have to move it just open page and read like Metro online editions.
When you have to check something on your phone and go back to ES it gets stuck every time ...

On behalf of all the poor people in London I would like to thank the Board of the Evening Standard for making it a free newspaper. It helps the homeless that are able to read the news and use the paper to help keep warm. I love doing the Sudoku puzzles

Putting aside any review of content etc, I used to read the ES every day, but the total revamp of the app a couple of years ago was a disaster and it remains so. It’s simply not intuitive and too clever for its own good. Difficult to navigate, I give up

London is fortunate indeed to have a free evening paper of such high editorial standard. From politics,arts,fashion,entertainment, travel,property,sport and so many other interesting topics I can become well informed and up to date. I welcome each days edition of the Standard as like meeting a highly intelligent and well informed friend whose company and challenging conversation I love and enjoy.

This app used to be great. A simple easy to use version of the paper EN. Now it has to be fully downloaded and takes a while, so I have moved on to BBC or Sky by then. Hardly look at it now. I wonder how other readers feel?

Great paper, awful app
I love the Standard, but it’s let down by a clunky app and really poor download reliability. Other papers will download the newest edition automatically with no problem (ie The Guardian) whereas this app needs ‘instructing’ to download and then invariably hangs or fails. The content is first-class, the app is fourth-class....

For a fantastic newspaper, edited by one of the cleverest people in the land and backed by some of its most inspired entepreneurs, it is a mystery why the ES app is so consistently poor. Should we scroll it? Or download it? Do we click on inset headlines that look like clickbait, rather than journalism? Oh there it goes again, crashing into smartphone oblivion. Just as the FT did a year or so ago, the designers of this digital mess should just own up, put their hands up and completely overhaul the experience. The lack of functionality means I never now read the newspaper...something I want to do!
