Best sketch pad for architects!
I have been using Morpholio Trace for several years now. It remains one of the most intuitive and reliable sketching apps out there. What I appreciate most is how it keeps evolving through small but meaningful improvements, without ever losing the simplicity and essence that make it such a strong design tool with its layers, dimensions, colours, fills, etc.
I use it regularly with my team, clients, consultants and sometimes just to experiment for fun. It saves a tremendous amount of time and is excellent for conveying early design ideas, whether in quick 2D drawings or expressive 3D sketches. I love it!

I have been using Morpholio Trace for a while and after some initial teething issues - entirely user errors - it has transformed my architectural work. I use it for client meetings, redlining drawings on site and, predominantly, for presentation work - giving life to CAD drawings.
I cannot recommend Morpholio Trace highly enough - one of the best tech investments I have made.

Great but lacking one important feature!
I’m a few days in. I survey rooms for kitchen installations and have put some projects through Trace. After watching tutorials and reading up on its use, I’ve found Trace to be a very useful addition to my toolset at a very reasonable price when compared to many other apps I have considered.
There is - so far - one problem I have found nd that is the inability to manually enter the length of a line numerically as can be done with SketchUp or AutoCAD. I want to start drawing a line, type a number, and for the line to become that length. Surely that’s not too difficult a thing to add? Using the ruler (which is otherwise great) is troublesome when trying to draw a line which is 1437mm long. Especially at scale.
Give me this and I’ll give five stars and become a long term subscriber!

Amazing app for architecture
Does amazing stuff and has most of the things needed as an architecture student. Only one thing I would like is to have more control and settings on some of the brushed like the spread on the watercolor.

No Cloud
This app seems good in many ways, despite some minor interface niggles. It has a strep learning curve, which reflects the fact that it is pretty feature rich, and the help section and videos are quite good. My main issue with it is that unlike Floorplans (which I loved despite its glitchiness because it did exactly what I wanted really well, but which has been removed from the App Store) Trace doesn’t ‘do’ cloud. So when I pick up my larger iPad (I travel with a smaller one) or my phone, my projects have not made it over to the other devices via the cloud. You can export them and email them or airdrop them, but then you have version control issues. So I’m afraid for me, good thought it is, this one massive lacking feature is likely to count it out. Pity. But in addition, they need to allow layers to be locked together in groups and to be flattened in groups. And the copy and paste functionality is bewildering.

A Great Drawing Tool
I have been using Trace since it was launched. I use it for architectural sketches and product design. I have found it the most comprehensive of the architectural drawing apps many of which are over complicated. Trace is simple yet powerful enabling you to create what you want in a manner that reflects the cad experience. I have been very happy with it. Thanks Trace

I love this app - just don’t know how to use it ,do you need a special pen for use on tablet - my fingers are too sausage like to make nice straight lines when needed.I need slower instructions video - too quick for my slow brain .

Drawing with Apple Pencil
Morpholio trace is a great app just what was needed to bring design and architectural drawing into the 21st. Works great for doodling and for more precise creations. Just needs some new updates say for pre formed sheets with title blocks and logos, otherwise great. Keep it up.

100% worth it
Currently studying Architecture at university and this app has transformed my workflow. I am not very good at hand sketching so using this app has made my sketches in my portfolio worthy and has allowed me to add life and colour to my cad drawings. It has every feature you would want and more. Recommend to anyone studying any design course who is looking for an app to aid them in their work.

SUPERB app
Clients LOVE Architects hand drawings, but this sellable ‘magic’ gets lost in a world of CAD. Trace Pro has enabled me to exploit this skill again, but direct to the digital realm and in a sustainable way, cutting out paper, copier and scanner. I import pdfs of CAD drawings for mark-up and overlays and sketch over photos with perspective support. I’ve had the Pro version for 18 months but I’m still just scratching the surface of its capability. When I found something it couldn’t do I emailed and Support replied instantly- the functionality was already built in- I just didn’t know where to find it. They are adding a user guide for that now. Support like that is rare these days. It’s worth every penny, not comparing apples and apples, but a fraction of what we pay for our CAD license.

An excellent app for architectural concept work
Trace is an elegant integration of two things - first, it retains the advantages and flexibility of traditional paper-based, analogue sketching from which design springs and second, the developers really have understood the workflow of architectural concept design and how best to provide digital tools to support this.
It was a real bargain for the price but now it has an integration with SketchUp for iPad it’s even more impressive. Top marks.

Layer management is terrible
I like the concept of Morpholio Trace, and it’s really powerful in places, (scaling drawings) but the lack of any easy layer management makes it a non-starter for me.
See what Procreate does with layers? copy that and you have an amazing piece of software. Right now it’s a powerful mess.

This app goes from strength to strength. The ability to easily create scale diagrams from imported pdfs and instantly calculate areas regardless of shape complexity is incredibly useful. The recently introduced feature to move content between layers is very welcome. The app is produced by a small team. Nonetheless they provide really effective and personal support. 10/10 for that. Well worth the annual subscription and highly recommended

Scaling and usability
I really wanted a scale on the side of the drawing which to me seems like a normal feature to draw with, have so I paid the second to highest subscription. The ruler has some advanced things like parallel lines etc, but don’t think the basics are right with this app for the ruler.
When I import a picture on a layer and set it up where I need it, every time I click on the layer again, it rotates 90 degrees no matter what setting I use. Support just told me it’s based on the orientation of the device. I expect more for basic usability for a simple garden design project. Even the lasso tool I would expect to be able to select something to then move it around, well does not work for me.
I would like to use this more as the interface feels right but find it frustrating to control.
Two stars for some of the drawing tools and slick design that’s all I can give this app. I hope I can cancel my subscription now.

Useless for landscape design
I contacted Morpholio beforehand to ask specifically if this could be used for creating simple coloured circles with text labels and it can’t, making it useless for anyone interested in landscape design and planting.
Sure you can draw a circle or use a stencil to colour in a circle but for professional landscape design you need to be able to create circles with labels easily for each plant. With the option for that to be in the same layer. Seeing as a planting plan will from 100-10,000 plants or more, you really don’t want to be colouring in a stencil for each one.
Its strengths are being able to sketch and add scale measures. Which is handy but there are better sketching apps out there and using a scale on sketches is never needed day to day.
Nice idea but too limited for practical use, wish I hadn’t bought it - luckily I could cancel the trial before payment had been taken.

A lot of potential, no precision.
When i’m working on paper and tracing paper, i work with a lot more precision than this app.
Even though it has an excellent library of stencils, or linetypes or pens and tools, the ruler tool is really bad.
~ I would much prefer a scale ruler with FIXED units rather than constantly updating units as you zoom in or out.
~ I would much prefer a scale lock of the rotate function when i crop my precise drawing of a bed on a plan....
~ I would much prefer a scale lock of all the stencils so i can place a 1.75m person on my drawing.
~ I would much prefer a function to draw precise circles and arcs
~ I would much prefer to be able to know the length of a line as i’m drawing it so i can realise that what i’m drawing is completely off....
~ I would much prefer to draw on a piece of tracing paper rather than this app for the time being, as it reduces my productivity rather than increase it.

Even an amateur can use it
I am not an architect or a designer but someone who wants to draw. Within minutes I had picked up the basics and was capable of some,rather basic and flawed, drawings. Time and patience will improve that along with the amount of support out there. Excellent product, all for £17 👏👏

No decent tutorials
Had high hopes to do a plan and elevation but due to lack of decent tutorials I can’t work out how to use this app, really frustrating, have wasted hours and could have done it on paper by now in 30 mins. The tutorials are just speeded up short time lapses. My base layer picture keeps turning sideways, can’t merge laters, 2 pt perspective grid doesn’t cover my pic, etc. Plus I’ve been charged on one iPad and am still on a trial period on the other so I guess if you happen to have more than one device you’ll have to pay 2 subs...

Purchased the pro app recently and must say - super impressed with what can be achieved with it! I am a garden designer and now thanks to Morpholio trace this gives me many options to combine this with sketch up and pages which I find very useful for design work. Simple to use with huge potential for creating great designs and visuals.

Light mode, more iOS 13 styled design elements

The app design has many great features. For some, certain elements consist of great iOS 13 design like the swipable pop-up menus. Many, however, still maintain an iOS 7 feel with its layout, icons and blocky UI. Have you considered updating the UI to feel more reactive? Shapr3D does a great job of this.

Trace is the digital, drawing pad! - KAPD
We have used Trace since it first appeared! KAPD use Trace daily and constantly in a professional capacity to develop freehand and scale preliminary concepts, through to final presentation works. Trace has proved to be a highly stable platform to develop projects and store detailed drawings on file. Files are revisited, switched, erased and altered constantly with layers absorbing more and more levels of input and detail. Trace is intuitive and allows the user complete freedom to work. Had a glitch recently that required an email to the Morpholio support team. The response was by return. It identified the problem and a resolve was forwarded. Clean, efficient, prompt, professional. It is important that Morpholio Trace, doesn’t lose its original baseline - the simplicity of use of a drawing pad, but there are important updates that Morpholio may make to Trace that will make it an even sharper, fine tuned, drawing instrument in the future. A great App for Architects
We asked and you delivered. Thank you for listening. The image opacity is a brilliant new tool and much needed for tracing and general architectural concept work. I’ve used this app for more than two years. In the beginning, going through the learning curve I would go over to the dark side and try and do the same work on the ‘Concepts’ app, but always I return. Morpholio is for those who want to bash out a quick architectural drawing. Site development plans, sketch floor plans, details, sketching over site photographs. It works excellently for all of the above. Like any software it takes a bit to get your head around it, but once you have have set up and established your own templates, pens, layers...you’re sorted.
Two additional functions which would be useful.
1: Layer naming - can we have an abbreviation of layer name ...maybe shown semi-opaque over the thumbnail so you don’t take up any more screen space.
It would be handy when dealing with multiple layers. Recently reached the layer limit in a sketch and had utter chaos keeping track of which layer was which.
2: The ability to alter the smoothness of the line from freehand to rigid vector. The ruler jumps too much when you lift your finger ...i have temporarily overcome the problem by moving the ruler around with the pencil point, but not an ideal solution. Also there is too much parallax on the ruler edge so the line doesn’t draw on the front edge of the ruler. In frustration I have sometimes reverted to using a plastic ruler on my screen.
But overall an excellent product. Keep up the good work.

App that actually works like architects work
Superb app that works like many architects were trained. Intuitive, flexible and already much loved by many members of our 32 year old architectural practice. Keeps evolving and getting better and better. Annual Pro subscription is very reasonable for the features on offer. Looking forward to see where the developers take it next. Keep up the good work!!

Used to have so much potential, but now...
I got this app because I wanted to be able to actually use pictures I’ve saved on my iPad & allow me to actually trace the pictures without the image wobbling all over the place or being drawn/painted over in the process. On my old iPad, this app did exactly that. Until I was forced to get a new iPad when the old one broke. I downloaded the app again, hoping it would be no different ... boy-oh-boy was I wrong about that! I can’t make heads or tails of it now & I can no longer keep an image still long enough to trace a straight line, never mind a whole picture! All I wanted was to do a personalised picture, to put on a “Get Well” card for my 9 year old cousin (who’s been struck by a car & will likely need surgical pins), but now I can’t draw it for him. I’m very disappointed, to put it politely. Sorry, but I’m going to be deleting this app, as I simply cannot use it. And no offence, but I honestly won’t be recommending this to anyone; not after my own dissatisfaction with the app. SMH. 🤨

I tried to click onto the free option but would not let me so I proceeded by pressing cancel but then I got a message on my gmail saying that my free trial has expired, this NEEDS to be fixed STRAIGHT away!😡👎👎 would not recommend a download at all but I would recommend Autodesk it is much better and completely free no matter what

Recently subscribed to the full version and is now my go to app on my new iPad Pro. Together with the Apple Pencil, this is a fantastic working tool for my concept and sketch drawings. It does all the things I have been doing in the traditional format and more.

It’s getting bloated
This was my best app for my day to day work and I use it in my professional work as architect, it started great and got better with the added features until recently where I got so frustrated with the undo command as the app gets jammed and sometimes crashes. The undo use to be very responsive, now after few strokes on a layer and get stuck, also the hyper layer command where it zooms on a portion of the drawing to match the size of the layer has disappeared with the latest update.
It’s a great app and one of my favourite but it’s getting too frustrating, I hope they fix it.

The paperless freedom of hand sketching with the precision of digital drafting, at last!
Although being a beginner with the app, the potential of Morpholio is extraordinary! For the first time I was able to draft new proposals from the beginning, combining the freedom of hand sketching but in a paperless environment. And then you have layers to sketch multiple variations, areas measured almost automatically, stencils with multiple objects to quickly refine your drawings, a whole world of possibilities! I just regret now not having the larger iPad Pro, since you just feel you want a larger and larger screen. A very intelligent and recommended app for every architect!

Architects’ delight...
This is an awesome application if you’re an architect with a workflow laying tracing sheet over sheet, old-school. Great to sit down without piles of tracing pads and rolls. Amazing but if tech. An absolute pleasure on my iPad Pro...

Cool but if you can’t pay, not as worth it.
Looks like it could be a really cool app, but I don’t want to have to pay a £17 subscription to just use the perspective tool, which is the main reason I downloaded the app. It seems very limiting if you can’t afford to pay extra.

Really good app-but gen 2 pencil issues
I’ve used pro version for a year and find it really useful. I’ve just upgraded to the gen 2 Apple Pencil and lots of the pens and erasures no long work properly, don’t flow just have initial contact. Doesn’t seem to be much support to register this so maybe an update is due?

Disappointed
After upgrading to the Pro version after looking in to the product. One of my main goals was to work out areas on a plans. It does do it but with varied results each time. Not accurate at all as far as I can see.

Not great on new maps
I am not sure where the developer has sourced the maps but they are so faded in archeological dust they belong in the museum. If like me you wanted to use the scale map feature don’t bother as the maps I looked at had to be at least 5-10 years old

FB Log in, does it work?
Gets stuck in an endless loop when opting to use Facebook to log in on my device. Didn’t really want to have to create a new app-specific account.
Additionally, even though your video tutorial shows what to expect from the app, it’s pretty poor form these days to ask for sign up immediately, especially before the user is allowed to even just test drive your app!!
Lastly, the text on your sign up dialog is tiny, even on an XS Max. Looks like something that’s been ported directly from web/desktop, with little thought.

After 3 months or so...
My most used app. At first just being able to open a pdf drawing - add notes + edits - and email it back as a pdf in minutes rather than printing/scanning/etc has been a massive time caver. But now I’m getting used to the way the layers work i love the drawing aspect too, both for clear sketches at a client standard, to more freehand creative drawing. I think working with the stencil tool will be powerful too. The only drawbacks are just ones that could be included in future updates (more control on titleblocks perhaps?).

One thing kills this app
The main difference between amateurs and professionals who sketch is that professionals will always sketch to scale. If they draw a door, or a bed, or a car, they want to know that it is accurate and realistic. The scale tool in this app is very hard to read, much too abstract and if you are trying to measure something and want to zoom in to check the impossibly small scale, guess what! The scale doesn’t not zoom with the drawing, but stays fixed on the screen. This app has so many other things going for it that I have tried and tried, but this useless, frustrating, illegible scale tool is the reason that I am ending my subscription.
