Still unusable on an iPad
22 Oct 2023: The chat facility is now unusable, even on a brand new iPad. Locks the device, changes the handles, triggers an auto reboot several times an hour, overheats on the back. In Monitor it is even putting the share prices temporarily on the wrong line……..

Crashes iPad
This issue seemed to be resolved but after another iOS update, the ADVFN App continues to lock up and crash my iPad again. Come on guys, sort this out! Unable to use ADVFN at all.

Crashing
The app keeps crashing since the latest Apple IOS 15.6.1 update. Please advise, thanks. UPDATE 14/10/22: The problem appears to have been resolved. UPDATE 09/02/23: Since IOS 16.3 update we're back to crashing the iPad again, grrr!

iPad seized
When are ADVFN going to fix this app’s problem with iPads?
iPad seized on Quotes screen (pretty basic requirement), couldn’t close app or power off the iPad. It eventually rebooted itself, so I deleted the app, as this has happened before and others are having the same problem on iPads. Very poor from ADVFN.

IPad problems
Partly agree with the previous review. Don’t install, or use with care, on an iPad. If you open up discussions it hangs the iPad and you have to reboot. However, it works here OK for monitoring prices. On an iPhone 12 it all works as it should. So it’s an iPad issue. Still waiting for a fix.
The other irritant is that the app doesn’t track discussion threads that have been read between the app and the web interface.

Don’t install on an iPad
I downloaded the app and it locked up my iPad 3 times within 15 minutes. I rebooted after the first lock-up thinking it may be ok after that. But no, it locked up again and eventually I managed to terminate the app. On the third lockup, the iPad rebooted itself.
On restart I removed the app and will never install again. The website is a better bet.

IPad crashes.
To add to other reviews, this app was so useful to me, but recently it had started crashing on my iPad. (Runs fine on my iPhone though). I believe it has something to do with the code that streams adverts to the user since the only place where I can get it to run reliably any more is when using Wi-Fi networks which have the ad-blocking pihole application running on them. Then everything is fine.

Freeze
Still completely locking up ipad and rendering it unusable. Only resorting to rebooting brings iPad back to life again. 22/9/22. Totally uninstalling/reinstalling the app doesn’t have any effect whatsoever. Recommend no-one downloads until/unless this is resolved.
The app hasn’t been updated to be compatible with latest IOS 15 updates, rendering it unusable with even recent generation variations of IPad.

What have they done to this app ? It is becoming unusable due to page freezing and having to reboot everything only for it to happen again, it’s now useless.

Freezes iPad
As others have said whatever they have done in last 2 months (or failed to do when IpadOS changed) means the app is now pretty unusable on iPad as it causes the iPad to run slowly and freeze requiring a restart. Please sort this out and release an update asap.

Keeps freezing and crashing IPAD
As with other reviews I have had to remove the APP due to it keep freezing and also crashing my IPAD as a result. Clearly an APP problem, it don’t get the same problem on my iPhone, only the IPAD.

Major issues with IPad
Once was great but this app has serious issues now, it will crash your iPad and can put it out of action for a period of time, at best it will run extremely slow and at worst will deem your iPad useless until you able to re-boot it, hopefully they will sort this out soon

ADVFN App keeps crashing on iPad
I have had to remove the app from my iPad as it has been so problematic and slows everything down. I loved it before this happened. Very disappointing!

While using the app it usually works for a few minutes then will crash and sometimes will continue to crash when I select a share to look at. I’m on Latest iPhone IOS. Please sort this out as it didn’t used to crash so much.

Great app
1. Been using this app for a few years now and it’s good, it’s not cheap.
2. Sometimes you have to delete it and reinstall it or log off and back on again.
3. I need it to see the last live buy or sell trades, because you’re brokers will rip you off. Especially if you are trading AIM shares.
4. And you can see all of the trades come in just before a share goes up, you can find this elsewhere but it will have a 15 min delay.
5. You need a different place to check the share price, as well. All ways double check.
6. Good for checking your shares when you are on the move.

Not Natural Listeners
I have been a subscriber for years and by and large it fulfils a function. During that time I have asked every year for an additional capability column: ‘year to date performance’. Apparently this is too complicated to do and I have been fobbed off every time. It really bugs me.

No longer working. Terrible support
Used to be ok but suddenly the bulletin boards would show blank author names or just keep alternating different names against the same post so made it hard to follow the thread. Now just an error saying the data couldn’t be read because it isn’t in the correct format. Support were terrible, tried telling me the issue had to be passed to the abuse team because it was a bb problem. Very glad I didn’t pay for a subscription now

Could do a lot better
Old interface, needs updating to modern tach, and financial stats poor (particularly foreign currency may not always state currency, therefore confusion about what is sterling and what is foreign currency). Financial reports are poor (compare Stockopedia). The fact you pay twice for different interfaces PC or phone/tablet reflects the old technology interface. Streaming prices is generally good, and that’s all I use it for. The message boards should either be removed or monitored as frequently full of foul language!

Terrible service
Beware they will take full yearly subscriptions without notice or emailing you prior to taking payment even when you do not have a signed contract.
When you log into your account using the App your account still states free though you can well be charged 12 months upfront.
Customer service is unethical and rude.

In urgent need of an update
8 Apr and still no iPhone X support, ADVFN just can’t keep up with technology! There website has changed for years and they can’t even keep there App to date.
10 Jan update This needs to be updated to reflect the iPhone X screen size as well the available information. You need to be able to use the portfolio function within the App.
Come ADFVN keep up with the development of the App!

What a terrible app, looks dated and over crowded! I have a couple of spread betting apps - IG and Spreadex and their apps are clear and easy to work with, this app is not! Needs to be totally redesigned from scratch!

This app is terrible. The interface looks ten years old and most of the time you use it it crashes. Just downloaded the latest update thinking it might have been updated to fit the iPhone X screen; it hasn’t. 1986 just called and would like it’s interface back 😆
What’s worse is that if you subscribe to ADVFN as I do, you pay extra to use this piece of junk.

Awful but could be good
Bulletin boards used to crash now since an update it doesn't even open just crashes straight away, advfn were no help when I tried to cancel my £6 subscription they said I had to write as email was no good - avoid until they sort it out
EDIT - The app seems to work fine these days - don't pay the monthly fee though as once you have bought it and cancel it you can still access it fine

Great app used all day on iPad
I use the app nearly all day which has everything I need to monitor my portfolio and time buy and sell decisions. Real time data, monthly and yearly stock charts, volume trades plus easy access to bulletin boards and news. Also shows level 2 data which I pay extra for. Also set up and monitor portfolios and watch lists and gives easy access to biggest gainers and fallers of the day. Breaks useful trading tool.

Excellent app but....
This Version of ADVFN 2.95 on the new IPAD PRO constantly freezes, forcing me to re-open it. On occasion I go back to the Apple Store. This is a real pain.
I have no problems with the app on the IPhone.
All other apps on both IPad and IPhone work without any problems and have never frozen.
Network is not the issue either running at download 76Mbs and upload 5.25Mbs

Charts not working
The charts will not work on this update. The keep cutting off the bottom on each one on the iPhone 6. You need to keep changing the device to landscape and back to make it work. Please fix.

Poor design - an app from the 90s (if that was possible)
Like the rest of Advfn there's been very little design input making for a poor user experience. I thought the prior app was poor, but actually think it was better than this one, as now I have to select my main portfolio each time. The last one did this automatically. I cancelled my L2 subscription a while back as fed up being ripped off for poor products.

Why mess - now worse!
Adding adverts fair enough, adding them in the middle of lists... Ok I guess, at a push. Adding them in the middle of the boards list so when you click on one it selects the one below! Not good enough! Do people not test apps before release?!
Would put me off paying for anything with advfn as have emailed and had no response to these bugs!

December 14 update
The latest update claims to fix issues that users were having problems with. I would be interested to know precisely what those issues were because as far as I can see the only difference with this version compared to the last is that it enables loads of pop up adverts to appear on every page. But I suppose if they told you that you wouldn't download the update! Does nothing more or better than the previous version, but now with the added benefit of adverts for "game of thrones" and such like all over the place! #muggedoff

Smooth and working well
Good app for keeping track during the day. Easy to quickly see what is going on. Only time I have had freezes or crashes is when I am trying to use it with almost no 3G signal. With good signal it is reliable. I don't think subscribers should have to pay extra £5 to get their extra content showing in the app but this is ADVFN policy not a fault with the app itself

Could be better
I use the site a lot to be honest just to track share prices so not all bad at all. Just frustrating that the site can freeze or slow down from time to time. Trust future updates will smooth things over and sort some of the glitches.

Very poor app
Despite paying for mobile access on my ADVFN premium account, the app doesn't have functionality to access many of the premium functions on the app (which i can access on my computer) just one example is all the Premium toplists.
Also, cannot check a stocks financials within the app...instead the app has a URL link directing the user to the web-browser based page of ADVFN financials.
The app really is a poor effort, and lacking in so many ways. Hope it improves one day, as i do like using the ADVFN website.

Now fully featured
Version 2 is a great improvement... Now has portfolio view which I missed before, makes better use of iPhone 5 screen size and has Popup side menu for faster access to different monitors, portfolios and other features.

Yes it is about time we have a good apps on the store
I would not stay this app is perfect… but it sure does work.. I have download sh^t loads of other financial data streaming apps … and this is one of the few that really works … if you want an app to give you real time share prices… just get this … dont was time … the appstore is filled lots distraction :) ...

Could do better!
Totally agree with a couple of points already mentioned. Not being able to access my portfolio without resorting to Safari or Chrome is a real pain. Also, having to make sure that you do not try to access this app when already logged in to Advfn on laptop or desktop has caused me problems more than once. I'm sure that with a little more work this app could be an excellent little program but, sadly at the moment, not really fit for (my) purpose.

Poor, needs work
It crashes every now and again, but I could probably live with that.
For me there are 2 problems why I don't use this and won't be renewing my mobile subscription support with ADVFN:
- once you log in, it logs you out of your desktop. I can understand why ADVFN constrains you to only one desktop, but I like to work iPad and desktop simultaneously on many apps.
- it doesn't show your portfolio, so I have to log in via Safari for that, which then logs me out of the app; see point 1
Shame, as there's good potential out there. It's about 6 months until my ADVFN Level 2 sub is up and I'll see who can do me the whole package then if ADVFN haven't got their act together with this app.

Excellent!
I have been using this for 3 weeks and it's the best stock market app i have ever seen. Even bought mobile access... Only £5 per month for my live data is not bad. It saved me a lot more money on my investments.

Nice functionality, but too unstable
The functionality of the app is really nice, but it just crashes all the time (iOS6) - I haven't been able to use it for more than a few seconds. That plus the extra £5/mo for what I already have on my subscription means its hard to recommend this.

Poor App, Greedy Company
I thought the old Advfn App worked ok on an iPhone but this new one either won't fully load share prices in my portfolio or kicks me out and won't let me log in again. I object to being asked for an additional £5 on top of a hefty L2 monthly fee. I can get better quality service with IG markets who's App is now very reliable. Again poor service from advfn, I'll remember this come subscription time. Avoid.

The £5 sub to get your live data on mobile is a bit unconveniente but you can't expect something this good for free. Fair sub and really good app. It was about time.

excellent app for stock market traders
Not only this app is extremely fast & user friendly but it also manages to comprise the key information in a clean & intuitive interface. The level of insight granted by this app is very high and It's one of the few Apps (if not the only one) that allows you to see level 2 quotes.

It's going to cost extra...
The app itself is good, does what you need and is a great improvement on what was about before.
The only issue is, ADVFN want subscribers to the current ADVFN L2 service to pay an extra £5 pcm, to use the streaming on this app. Even if you currently pay £40 pcm for their L2 service.
Streaming will work for a time, but every so many hours after using it the streaming will stop and you will have to go to settings and start it again. With a pop up saying call the ADVFN number.
Out of principle I am not going to pay extra for this, it should be an app that is included in the current £40 pcm subscription to ADFVN.

Another money spinner
I originally signed up to ADVFN to gain access to Level 2 for use with my iPad and iPhone while on the move. It was only after I'd paid for an annual subscription when I was informed by customer services that it was not yet ready for use on apples devices but would be ready within 2 weeks. I waited patiently for 5 weeks and now here it is. However I still cannot use level 2 unless I pay even more money on top of what is an already expensive level 2 compared to some competitors. I was not informed by ADVFN that I would be required to pay more money on top of what I already pay just to use level 2 on an apple device. I've emailed ADVFN with my concerns over having been what I believe miss sold a service, however as always with ADVFN, I'm still waiting for a reply, can take them up to 2 days to reply, and there a PLC company!! I will not renew my subscription with a terrible company who have no customer service, and I would tell people to really research before signing up. I have since found everything everything ADVFN supply me with including charts, level 2, 52, 26, 12, and 4 week breakout charts for half the price.

The old app was terrible but this one that is designed for the iPad looks good and so far seems to be working very well. It's also quick.
