What a horrible update to the App. It worked fine before. Now it looks like it was designed by a small child and just lags when using it; it now classifies drives so slowly you’d be able to do the whole drive again before it works!! Been using this App for years, time to look for an alternative…

I love the app, it tracks drives effectively and is very easy to categorise them with a swipe and export reports.
It is frustrating that it picks up the occasional exercise like running and bike rides. If I forget to turn off drive detection and go out on the bike for a day I come home to 10-20 separate snippets of ride to delete.

Almost no support and serious bugs aren’t getting fixed
Used to be a good app but notifications no longer work and the ability to auto classify drives has stopped working. This has been happening for a long time now. Not good enough for a subscription based app.

Easy Peasy!
Makes identifying and a categorising business and personal miles easy. At the end of the month I download the Excel file and separate the two out. It’s gone from taking over an hour to figure out where I went and how far I travelled, to a maximum of 10 minutes.

Thought I'd try this as I make a lot of business journeys by car However i still Need to keep a notebook and pen in the car to record journeys as the app misses some drives, gets the time and distance wrong by up to 100%, and other times just stops mid drive. Going back to manual entry on a spreadsheet as it is less effort than editing and adding drives on here.
Sometimes a stop in traffic triggers a new journey. Sometimes it doesn't resume at all. Sometimes it doesn't register the fact that I've stopped. Gone into a building and so runs journeys together, including walking the dog.

Good, but too expensive
This app is definitely aimed at business users and it appears to do what it says. It is, however, very expensive as a subscription service and you only get 40 drives for free per month. Operationally, it works well, but it is difficult to remember which vehicle you use when you go through reports, and all reports are generated on a cloud server somewhere. I was also continually having to keep the phone on charge, so there was a noticeable drain on it. Would I buy the subscription? No, not even if it was for business use. Subscriptions need to have a value, and this does not quite get there for the price.

Easy, Intuitive, Works Flawlessly
MileIQ is a switch on and forget app. It runs in the background, logs mileage and I like the swipe left for personal and right for business feature, no more recording on spreadsheets or by hand, evidence is there for mileage expenses, book keeping and tax offset purposes. Monthly summary reports are a great catch up feature and the money counter/mileage counter is very obvious. A must for people who struggle to log business mileage.

I have been using this app for three years now and it has been a life saver. There have been regular updates that have helped improve the system over time and the ability to name locations have saved lots of time in identifying business verses personal and auto classifying drives. I can’t wait for the auto vehicle function to work on iOS and I am hoping that will also help classify short drives as it could trigger the start and end of drives when it connects and disconnects. Keep the development coming.

The lazy person's way of keeping HMRC informed
I have always found it such a bind to keep accurate logs of mileage for end of year travel reporting to HMRC. Along comes Mile-IQ and instantly all that changes. Now all I have to do is name and classify and the app does the rest. I absolutely love the detailed monthly reports that I get which I can submit with my accounts. So useful!!

Yet another subscription
The accuracy and data provided is very good, and you are allowed 40 trips per month free, however every conceivable trip even if you walk to the postbox is recorded ramping up the 40 trips quick enough and run out long before the month is up which is to the companies favour,..At present I have passed a month but it has not reset itself to a new month . Every company is leaping onto this subscription bandwagon, which means you will never own this product you are only renting it, and if they gave an option for a one payment I would consider it, but I’m not falling in this trap for subscriptions

Brilliant idea, but…
When I first started using this app, I thought it was the answer to all of my mileage tracking problems! And then I realised it wasn’t…
Like others have said, it does seem to randomly miss certain trips with no warning. But worse than that, it records every trip on wheels - bus, taxi, everyone else’s cars. I can’t work out how to keep correcting the journeys - and nor do I want the hassle. This was supposed to save me time, not give me another job to do!
So, 2 stars for a good idea, but one that works poorly in practice…

Fantastic accurate time-saving app!
I used to spend far too long working out business journey mileage when I had forgotten to record the odometer reading (almost always!), so this app is so convenient and efficient. If you do a lot of miles, then it's really worth the upgrade cost as it saves so much time. The export facility is also great for updating bookkeeping. Really great. Has only failed me once because I had data switched off on phone!

Easy peasy
Before MileIQ I was logging trip manually.
The annual fee for MileIQ well justifies the time involved and missing trips using the manual process.
It is great to get a automatic Mail every Monday to review and make corrections on the trips which are not regular and automatic in the previous week.
A 5 minute correction or allocation keeps it all up to date.
The flexibility to create tailored reports is great and is acceptable with HMRC.

So far so good…. Exceptionally Acurate
I have used other app trackers in the past but when I’ve compared them against my odometer at the end of the day/week or month they have always been a couple hundred miles out, so far the miles this app has tracked reflects the miles I’ve done on my odometer which when it comes to doing your end of year returns accuracy is paramount. I would just like to add that also the price is half of what I was paying for Driversnote which charged me £8 per month (£96 year) I believe this was £45 odd for the whole year.

Amazing! Best mileage tracker for work ever!!
I’ve used multiple trackers. This is by far the best. It works seamlessly and is well worth the £5 monthly subscription. It allows me to track my milage to charge my clients accordingly with great monthly and weekly reports available on hand. If your self employed working for a company that reimburses you for travel, definitely get this app.

Great app, poor reporting
Brilliantly simple app, records mileage and journeys can be assigned work/non-work with a swipe.
My only gripe is it summarises these journeys by total number of trips (i.e. 10 work trips and 20 non-work) which is useless information for accounting. More useful would be a percentage split of total miles driven, which is what we actually need for accounts. Unfortunately this has to be done manually, undermining the value of this app.

A really good app, just needs one change to be great
I really like this app, for me there is only one change needed to make it a truly great app though; the option to add/edit drives from the app. The current method involves opening a web dashboard that appears to have no mobile friendly skin and it’s tricky to correct on the go.
Other than that, it’s working really well for me. There is no way that I could maintain a logbook on my own, MileIQ has really changed the way I use work vehicles.

I can't believe how good this app is
I've tried lots of other milage tracking apps and this is the only one that has worked reliability for me. Classification between different trips for work and domestic use is a breeze. It even automatically classifies trips I cycle for work to be claimed as cycle milage automatically based on the Bluetooth link to the bike computer.

US Centric. No 24 hour clock option on web reports.
This is a great app overall but for me has one major failing. The reports cannot be printed or exported with the time in 24 hour clock format which is used the world over except in the US. I have logged this issue a few times but I keep being told that the time format comes from the phone. The problem is with the browser version from where I export reports, not the phone version.

Dog walker tracking miles for tax - could be better
Good so far. It has been the easiest way other than recording each destination and miles. 45p to the mile is what you can claim when you do your uk tax return so I think that’s how much it estimates. Two things are that you can not combine the trips. If you stop for a coffee for 2 mins you can not consolidate that trip to one. Secondly you can not make points on a map and estimate a trip before you go. This function would help to decide the best route and how to combine financially your days driving. I am a dog walker so this app is good but could be better.

Helpful to a point
I’ve been using the app for a couple of years now & while I read reviews it’s improving I actually feel the opposite. When logging the trips as business or personal it gives start & finish times of each journey but once logged it only gives one time which I generally find to be slightly after the start of the journey, while this might not affect most users I find it helpful to log hours as well as miles & therefor the app used to double up as an hour log for each destination however I cannot rely on it for this purpose any more. I also find it’s not recording every journey now. I’ve always suspected it didn’t but as I only used to really check it at the end of the month I would assume my phone battery had run flat or something however I’m now checking it much more frequently & there’s just no reason I can think of for certain journeys not to be logged. I’ll continue to use the app until something better is an option as it’s helpful but I would love to be able to really rely on its accuracy which I don’t feel I can at present.

Randomly stops recording trips
Update on below review and score jumping up two stars!
Despite the strange app notifications, I’ve now verified and all mileage seems to have been accounted for but some was split into multiple journeys ( I suspect because of the bad traffic which led the car to start and go constantly) which the app didn’t then recognise as one of my ‘frequent drives’. So issues partially resolved. Still feeling like I need to monitor though and would appreciate hearing from the app builder in case there might be something I’ve not set up correctly.

I’ve been using the app since October and at first I was very happy with it but lately (or maybe I just didn’t notice before) it has become rather unreliable. Last week it has recorded a trip out to a (regular) client but somehow not the trip back, on the same day. Never had (or noticed) that problem before.
Today I received a notification email saying I had not done any mileage in the past 7 days. Not only I had, but the app had recorded it and I had classified all the trips so far. So not sure what’s wrong and now I’m feeling like I need to double check the mileage report every other day to make sure nothing gets missed. Not great. Considering switching to another app.

Great when it works!
This app in theory is great. It logs your mileage in a report format with very little input required from you. BUT this app keeps having phases where it logs itself out and if you don’t notice and log back in none of your mileage that you have done whilst logged out is tracked. I’ve gone for days not realising this and having done hundreds of miles in multiple trips it is such a pain. You then have to rely on your memory to log all the trips manually. Also when entering manually it calculates the mileage incorrectly (usually lower) so I use google maps to work out the correct mileage and amend each trip. I don’t think it does this when it tracks your mileage automatically as it’s tracking your location in real time. I contacted Support but they just said the app logging out is probably when I am in low battery mode despite me saying that I use this mode daily and most of the time the app stays logged in. I still think it’s an issue with the app. If they could fix these issues I would give the app 5 stars.

Really good but needs a bug fix...
Did the free trial and it is the easiest app to use to work out business or personal mileage, with HMRC closing down on everything this is one of the easiest ways to make sure you claim back the maximum on your work mileage.
Only issue and I would have given 5 stars...worked perfectly on the trial, paid for the annual subscription (which is worth the money for what you get back) but now won’t start, sometimes opens but then closes immediately, freezes. Not sure if this is a by product of latest IOS update but please fix this as I need this app to work as it is supposed to..

Have been using this app for nearly a year when our IT guys changed our work login details which dropped me out the app. 1 quick chat with the support team and in minutes all my old drives and reports were copied over to my new login. Absolutely brilliant support and a life saver as I panicked as I thought I had lost 10months of info. Five stars for the app and if I could I would give 10 stars for the support team. It’s perfect for disorganised me!
Our accountant had been going on at us to claim mileage from our business for all the driving round we do, but we were both terrible at make notes and writing anything down - too much else to worry about!
Then I found this and it’s been a godsend for tracking and recording so all so have to do is submit the report it generates each month and we have a couple of extra hundred quid in the account.

Almost a fantastic app
Love the auto detection, working hours, reduces missed miles. Almost perfect, only issue is the reporting. The desktop version shows a map of each journey and pin points to the road a journey starts/ends. The output however gives the area as an overview. This has been pulled up by HMRC at a recent audit as being inadequate for claims so I’m having to submit with my work schedule. I query whether this actually is HMRC compliant...?

Inaccurate and takes more time than doing manually
I have tested extensively. The interface is good and I’d like to keep using this app, but the mileage reports are often wrong (regularly by huge amounts - even though I’m using normal main roads), the app splits your journey every time you stop (even in a traffic jam sometimes!) and it also doesn’t report things as you would want in the UK. I’ve had extensive discussions with the support team, who admitted the issues. A good idea which has great potential but at the moment, is sadly far more time consuming than manual mileage recording or using google maps.

Excellent app
I’ve been using this app for just over a year now and I find it very intuitive and easy to use. I also use Quick Books which records my mileage too but I think MileIQ is a lot better. It’s very easy to allocate drives and go back if you’ve been too hasty and need to change how a drive has been allocated. At the end of the month you can get emailed with details of your drives which can be downloaded as a spreadsheet or pdf. Overall, a great app which saves me a lot of time.

Brilliant App
I love MileIQ it saves so much time and doesn’t rely on me recording every journey.
There are probably 2 features I would change. The first (which has been mentioned before) is the fact that ‘round trip’ doesn’t give details so unless you are very up-to-date with designating personal/business. It can be hard to remember where you went. Luckily, I rarely have a round trip. The second would be an option to enter mileage on the app as I lost my phone a couple of days ago and for the journeys taken during this time, there was no means of recording on the app. It’s not a huge problem as can record in accounts xls but would have been nice simply to add to monthly report.
Overall it had made life much easier for me!

Great App for busy people
I don’t often rate apps but in this case I think it is worthwhile to do so. I have a paid annual subscription to MileIQ and I consider it good value for money. You can see what it does, but my experience is that it works for you in the background classifying business and personal mileages so that you can claim your business miles at the end of the year. You don’t need to do that much!

Good but not right for me
First the positive. It logs all your driving miles completely automatically without you needing to do anything. It then gives you the option to swipe right for business and left for personal. It also gives you 40 free trips per month, all this function works well, however...
When stopped in traffic for a few minutes it presumes one journey has finished and the next begun so one trip can end up being recorded as 2 or more separate trips. It also isn’t particularly accurate at measuring mileage for long trips. And the one that in the end made me delete this app, it recorded a train journey I made as a drive. Overall it’s just trying to be too clever and the technology is not quite there.

Life saver
It’s very simple. I don’t have to keep track of where I go and when. I don’t have to spend half a day making sure expenses are right. This is accurate, reporting is a breeze and nobody can argue with the pdf report. This is essential software that anyone who claims miles should have. Probably the best software I have used on an iPhone in terms of function and time saving. No drain on battery either. The perfect app.

Quick, Easy and Accurate
I’ve used this app since April and without it I dread to think how my bookkeeper would keep track of my mileage expenses.
I’ve tried before with books and scraps of paper but never kept topside of my travels.
It’s probably cost me a lot of money in the past as travel costs haven’t been recouped.
That’s not a problem now and all my journeys are logged automatically and I can place them by the location and time - just swipe and tap - it really doesn’t get any easier

Had a trial for about 3 months .. but god the full saves you hours per week of free time ... they say money doesn’t buy time .. but in this case it actually does ! Would recommended it to anyone who has the options to claim milage .. weather you’re self employed or working for a company .. save yourself a massive headache..

Very helpful app
This app saves me from having to remember every trip that I’ve taken and the swipe action for ‘personal’ or ‘business’ is simplicity itself. I haven’t given it 5 stars because my only challenge is that it doesn't appear to distinguish the drive/park/walk-to-train/get-on-train action if it all occurs within 15 minute timeframe. But otherwise it’s one app I use almost every day.

The solution for busy people
For years as a fast growing business owner the chore of recording mileage was just a drain. I trialled this app after using many other ‘tools’ that were basically useless. I needed something that would do this without me even thinking. This does.
I then made it company policy for my reps to use this. One rep is now claiming half as many miles as they used too!

MileIQ Please Read.
I love this app as it is as close as I can get to what I need. I am only required to record my business miles and odometer readings for each trip, so the basics are there just missing some basic feature. The app does give a miles driven but with each trip it would be great if it would add this onto the original odometer reading. Start location, finish location, miles driven the reason of business and new odometer reading. The option to change on the home screen what we can read would make this app AMAZING!!!!!

Great idea, but.......
This is a great idea but the app falls down in reality. If the car stops for more than a very short while, i.e. roadworks, traffic jam or busy intersections, it thinks the journey had ended and then starts ‘another’ journey when you move off. That is a right PITA. In in my ignorance, I thought the IQ part of the name assumed the app was using some sort of intelligence to filter out those sort of common things on the road, but it appears not. As I have found it so frustrating that this is happening all the time, I have now deleted the app and will have a look at what competitors apps can do.

Finally free from the mile logging chore!
I trialled this app before upgrading, took a few journeys to get used to, but now I just love it. It is so simple to use and for me as a self employed person, just needing to record business miles for tax reasons, I don’t need anything more complicated. I have 3 personal categories and 5 business categories. Even if I forget for a few days to select the purpose it is easy to work out what it was because the date and time as well as start and end points are noted. So I can refer to my calendar.
Non-driving miles can easily be deleted, and the only journey that has gone wrong for me was a 12 mile drive ending at a train station. Hilariously I had to get out of the car and run for the train, so the app didn’t realise there was a break in the journey and merged the car and train trips. Next time I will arrive with more time to walk to the platform!

Does not record the correct mileage!
The app looks good and is very easy to set up and to use. Categorising travel into personal and business travel is so easy - one swipe!
However, this app does not appear to record the correct mileage, so tends to defeat what it’s supposed to be for. It identifies my beginning and end location correctly, but then calculates the shortest route between the two locations rather than the actual route and mileage that I travelled.
Kind of disappointing considering that an annual subscription is £45.... ☹️

Very helpful
This app ha ended years of writing scrappy notes in the car; a practice which I didn’t always have the patience for or course. Now I can generate a log of journeys at the click of a mouse. This goes straight into my VAT return. Simple.
What’s missing is a few more options on why you want to discard some drives. These might include being in someone else’s car or walking. Perhaps a few custom options there would be good.

Great interface, but too inaccurate
I love the auto tracking feature and the ability to name common locations. The interface is clean and easy to understand, but the accuracy of the miles tracked is very poor. This means having to correct the mileage for a lot of journeys otherwise you end up submitting mileage claims in excess of the actual mileage, or fraud as it is known legally! I contacted their support who did at least respond, but beyond checking that WiFi was always switched on they couldn’t offer any other reasons why the discrepancies occur. If it was a small error it wouldn’t matter but it consistently shows an excess of 4.5 miles on a 27.5 mile journey which is far too high as a margin of error on a single journey. Sadly I’ll be going back to pen and paper for my journeys as it’s less work than monitoring and amending each journey recorded in the app.

Good app but...
Unless I am mistaken it’s impossible to track where you’ve been. Eg I have a journey of 32 miles from house and back and although it shows start and end points it doesn’t show the route and I can’t remember where I went. So I’ve got to mark it as personal which is frustrating. To be able to see at least basic route would be really useful. Otherwise it’s great so far.

Almost perfect!!
The app is great and I will probably invest in the years subscription as remembering where you have driven is easy Peasy with this app. All in all it is great but needs some minor improvements. The mileage recorded sometimes seems far more than I would expect however you can’t check the actual route travelled only the start and finish point. While I understand that this would probably save on data and battery life there should be an option to track the actual route for people with unlimited data who have their phone plugged in while driving. This would make it much easier to adjust any incorrect mileage logs. Currently 1 in every 5 drives appear to be incorrect regarding mileage which could be gps signals bouncing around a bit adding excess miles but there is no way to check which means you have to remember where you drove negating the whole point of the app. Still very useful though.

Everything I need for my new business
I’m only running the free version but so far it’s had everything I need. I like the fact it records drives so I don’t have to remember to turn it on The reason I’ve given 4* instead of 5* is the fact it classes a drive to the post box and back as 2 drives. I’m assuming this is because I got out the car but in reality I only walked 10 steps and started driving again. Ideally if it could class any drive within say 15-30 mins as 1 drive it would be much easier to manage.

Don’t bother
One star because it just doesn’t work. The app loads and takes the details, but doesn’t do anything or allow you to ‘swipe’ to choose whether the drive is personal or business. It seems to be just a screen shot with no functionality at all. Thank heavens it was free- for that alone it was good value for money.
Ok - an update. The GPS is quite inaccurate but at least there is now some functionality. Out of three drives it captured only 2, and they were both non-business. Final opinion on this is pending. I’m surprised it doesn’t run my battery down as quickly as I would have expected. Well done Microsoft for that.

Great!
I’m absolutely pants at recording my mileage manually! I’m busy as it is without the pressure of having to record my exact mileage, so now I don’t bother. I just log onto the app when I need to. Split the logs into personal/business and when I’m back at my office log on to the website and request my excel report to be emailed which I then tweak and submit to my employer. I only had to forget one long distance journey (for which I forgot many!!!) to justify paying for the app. Jolly good :-)

MILE IQ
The app is great for logging your miles, however I find it much easier to use my phone to simply capture the mileage and use the online dashboard to send reports and specify personal/business.
All in all it has saved me hours of fllling in a spreadsheet at the end of the month trying to remember all the business miles I have driven.
To summarise I would say this is a must for any company car user or anyone who uses their own car for work, I just think the phone app could do with a bit of tweaking which is why it doesn’t quite get 5 stars.

Essential business app
Before I used this app,I was rubbish at collating mileage and would often miss or forget about journeys I had made for business purposes.
Since using the full version of this app, it’s been a godsend! Being able to track all of my journeys very easily and accurately and distinguishing between business and personal makes collecting mileage data a very simple task. Would highly recommend.

Only a week in and has already changed my life
So I have been writing mileage reports for nearly 20 years. I know I under declare because I err on the side of caution when listing for the gaps. It is a tedious and time consuming burden at best. So the technology is used to make the whole process read simple and dead simple it is. The added benefit of blocking incoming notifications is very positive and approved if by my family. All good so far and as soon as my 40 free have been used up I will be subscribing.
