Version 2.61
I started with Word 1.0 in 1990 Approx. It was more difficult to use than Multimate and inferior to the Wang word processing which I had used since 1982. I persisted with Word, which gradually improved, and better computers (486) handled the large files created by Word. I bought office 97, then office 2003, which has served me well.
Word 2013 (?) changed the menu system from something which was fairly clear into a ghastly mixture of icons, spread over several different screens. This has made it very frustrating, and the simplicity of 2003 is gone. I can customise the ribbons to some extent, but it does not make things much better.I appreciate the increased functionality but the screen presentation of menus etc is very unsatisfactory. I’m not going to write any more as I don’t think you’ll take any notice of this. Sincerely, David Hodgson

Used to be able to edit for free on old iPad but now that a standard iPad is 10.2”, that’s no longer available, which is a shame. C’mon MS, allow the free use up to 10.2” devices, given how the sizes of iPads have changed.

This app is so frustrating to use. It won’t allow you to easily move your cursor through a document to type and edit different parts of the document. After a certain point of typing down the page, the app simply won’t let you see anything beneath the keyboard - it doesn’t scroll down automatically to match where you are typing.
This app should make Word a convenience when you’re travelling/in a meeting but this actually just makes life harder as you then have to go back and edit the document on a computer. Microsoft PLEASE fix this damn app!!

I pay for a subscription to Microsoft for Office 365. I have endured Microsoft Word on the iPad for a number of years now. I have lived in hope that one day they would reward their customers with a decent Microsoft Word App for the iPad Pro. But this App has been getting worse rather than better. It is now without a doubt the worst piece of software I’ve ever used. Absolute garbage.

Life is too short to spend too much time trying to get this app to work on iPad. On trying to access my account I opt for the ‘send code’ to my email address. Nothing ever arrives. My Office password - ok on my workstation - isn’t recognised. So app now deleted. Goodbye Word for iPad! You will not be missed…

For such a big company it should sort out these bugs so I can fix it.

MS and Apple waste so much of our precious time fighting over cloud storage. Making it difficult to use Office on the Mac from an Apple point of view. Making it difficult to store on iCloud / Files from an MS point of view.
From the users point of view they’re both awful.

Why is Word on iPad suddenly playing up so much? And has been for over a week with no update or anything being done to fix it? I click to place the cursor on a word or in a space, and the cursor moves to a different point. I have to close down then re-open to fix it - but then it does it again.
On all my devices, I have the same issue, so surely it can’t just be me?! Please sort it out! I’m disabled and typing is hard enough without this hassle.

Building on a fairly flaky and confused application, Microsoft has successfully made it even more frustrating to use. Constant network access, even opening local files. There are undeliverable full stops in my document. I can delete them from one side, but not the other. This software is full of random anti-features like this. Switch away to another app and then back to word? Watch as the document is reloaded and your current activity tossed away. Looking for any useful menu? It’s all hidden behind a picture of a magnifying glass. Look, if you *need* to use it, here it is. If you can, please avoid this software as much as possible, it’s frustrating, random, and frankly, a wreck. Slow clap, Microsoft - you’ve now got the same software on multiple platforms, with complete inconsistency and lack of feature parity between them all. I guess at least you offer a bunch of other equally shabby applications within this, for users who haven’t already suffered enough. And don’t even *think* about operating properly within iOS. There’s a big emphasis on one drive or the other inconsistent services MS offers, but if you expect this to work properly with file and storage providers from iOS, you may or may not have it behave properly.

As this is a Microsoft Application you’d expect it to work smoothly and everything to go well however that’s not the case. First of all you have to be a subscribed to just use the app. Once you’re in everything seems fine but when you start working on cloud files from google drive, OneDrive or iCloud the app doesn't deal with it very well and starts to corrupt files and will crash. On multiple different occasions i spent hours typing up documents just to find when i save it and close the app it dosnt actually save and in fact goes back to original state. The only practical way you’d be able to use the app without any hiccups is if you were to save documents to your iPads internal storage and then transfer it over. Shared networks also dont work so dont bother. In my opinion it is best to use the web version as it is much more reliable then they app. Pure disappointment expected better.

I have been using this app for a couple of years or more with no trouble once I’d worked out its peculiarities. I have been very happy with it and found it useful.
Today I opened a document from Mail into Word - that was fine, but when I tried to save it I was going to have to sign up to Microsoft 365 subscription.
I do not use it often enough to warrant paying for it but I really do not want to have to revert to the laptop for documents. My hands have got used to iPad touch screen typing and my fingers & thumbs are painful typing on a keyboard.
Please can you help me? Thank you.

There is one problem with this app though which is that I don’t like the “new look and feel” update I think the old design looked better and the fact that you can’t turn it off anymore just spoils word it a shame

I had to use the mobile version because my laptop was gone for repairs. I’d written a 6 page assignment that I’d spent hours on, switched into a different app for a few minutes, came back to Word and tapped on the end of my paragraph to keep writing, started writing the next sentence, and then all of the text on the document just disappeared. I didn’t press any keyboard shortcuts or click any buttons, it just vanished for no reason. The undo button won’t bring my text back, and the history button is greyed out for god knows what reason, and now 6 pages of work is gone. Not to mention the stupid autosave feature that ended up overwriting the 6 page file with the now 1 page file so I couldn’t go back, but I have no choice but to use autosave because the only other option is ‘save a copy’. Why can’t I just save the new file regularly like I would on the PC version instead of making a new copy every time.
Tl;dr: Only get this if you want all your hard work to be deleted out of nowhere with no way of viewing the version history.

Ever since Microsoft had windows 10 there spying and data collecting is so bad and Microsoft don’t even care that they are selling your data to other authorities and have the right to delete any of you data on your devices as they please without permission. Windows 10 is garbage and so is Microsoft Office for both windows Mac Plus iOS and iPadOS. Apple are the very best and with the Mac iPhone and iPad with apple iWork pages numbers and keynotes I have the most wonderfully productive setup I could ever need. Pages Numbers and Keynotes is the finest office suite ever created and apple devices are the finest ever created all in all I’m 100% with apple for life. Microsoft have removed so much from window iOS and iPadOS versions of there office software that now Microsoft Windows and office are totally useless and crap the Microsoft CEO should be sacked and Microsoft should be sold off to a billion dollar company who know how to run a software business because it’s obvious the the Microsoft CEO and his team don’t for me it’s Apples Tim Cook and his marvellous team of software developers that are perfect and are for me number one.

I understand that the word app isn’t going to be the same as using it on a computer, but the app just lacks what the computer has. I’m using the app on my iPad, which i am using as a laptop at the moment. I have found it really difficult to find certain features on the app, that should be included. I really miss the design feature on the app, that the computer one has. Just something simple like being able to add a border or change the colour of the background. However, for what it’s worth, the apps other features are really useful. Just miss the design features that’s all.

It’s really time Word sorted itself out for iOS devices

I have used Office/Word for decades, but mostly at work with my employer paying for it. Now I am paying a LOT for Office 365 at home, but the functionality of Word is really glitchy on my iPad Pro. It really is well past time that MS sorted this out.
Current problems include: -Documents with pictures or tables are so slow to load that the keyboard lags behind my typing speed. - Headers/footers can’t be properly edited. - I’m unable to toggle sections (same as/different). - Print preview is unavailable or does not work. - Exports to PDF are different from the Word version. I cannot preview the *actual* appearance of Word docs when they are exported to pdf, making design difficult and time-consuming. - The available MS fonts are old fashioned and mess up my spacing and layout within poems. They do not match the cover, which was designed with Adobe. - My first choice Adobe font, Raleway, though imported to my device, is not available within Word. - My second choice iOS font, Avenir, is not preserved when exported to PDF. Other iOS fonts, though listed in the menu, do not export either. - Smart shapes are not available. - Random failure to save documents (“This document cannot be saved. Please try again later”!)
Come on MS, sort this out! I’m off to check out Note, which I have never used before, and if works better than Word, I may change the habit of a lifetime and cancel my Office365 subscription.

Using Word across devices

Such a useful experience being able to refer to Word docs across iPad, PC and iPhone. Frustrating not to have the full editing operation so easily accessible on phone and tablet, but a great facility to be able to do some immediate editing, without the encumbrance of a large device, when out and about. Speed of transfer is great with good wifi.
Good to be able to share the software access across the family too on one subscription. I have not had the experience of working in tandem with others so cannot comment on that capability, but think that too sounds like an impressive workplace option.

Slow and laggy. Grrrrrrr

Trying to write admittedly a large document, but that shouldn’t matter. It’s MS Word! After a while in the programme everything becomes really laggy and slow. Backspacing becomes tortuously slow, and typing takes ages to appear making it hard when you’re trying to write often complex phrases or thoughts. You lose your thread before it even appears on screen! I have to close Word down and re-open it just to restore some of the functionality, and then it goes again after a while. Right Royal pain In the… you know where.
It is absolutely ridiculous that for the money MS charge they can’t make a basic app that works on an IPad Air 4th Gen. It isn’t the pad’s fault as everything else is tickety-boo and I’ve literally just bought myself a new one as my old one’s battery was dying.
Come on guys. Do some work, stop driving your expensive cars about the place, and fix it! I’ve read so many reviews and help threads where this is a common issue. People are fed up!

If you have it a computer use it on that

It can feel clunky to move things around, it is difficult to get to a specific point within a word, so if I wrote “bansna” it is easier to just write banana over again completely because it will always prefers to go to the end or beginning of a word. In order to get to a point within a word you have to hold and move but if you just hold it will just select the whole word. Also to move up and down the page you have to swipe on the page which is fine until you have a table in which case you will often find yourself unintentionally moving around the table. Also for some reason when you press on a table to edit it it will take you to the bottom of the table which becomes very annoying if you have a long table

Very finicky. Glitchy. Generally stressful to use sometimes.

When I first got this I used it a lot for essays and other pieces of work but over time I continued to get more and more stressed with it.
My issues with it:
Some times the size editing tools when you select something just disappear entirely.
Sometimes objects are completely unresponsive and you can’t even move them.
When I copy and paste something it doesn’t even appear where I clicked but in some obscure corner of the page.
The size changing is very finicky and sensitive and sometimes you want a specific size but it just jumps between sizes to large or to small.
For some reason when you create a text box it spawns with a great chunk of text in it rather than just an empty text box.
The zooming in system tortures me as I try and drag things and the screen just moves instead of the thing I am holding on!
Try editing an odd shape like an L. I dare you. It moves multiple things at the same time when you want to move a singular thing and moves singular when you want multiple.
If you undo too quickly there is sometimes a clone manifestation of the thing you last grabbed that just sits there and you cannot interact with.

Frustrating

This appeared to work fine when I first got it, even if it has limited functionality. For example, I do have to move to my desktop if I want to do things like properly format styles. However, recently the app has started lagging a lot and slowing down at random times when I'm just entering and editing text. Happens even if I turn off things like auto save, and I get a buffering type bar up in the right top corner of my iPad. My typing takes minutes after I entered it to show up in the program. Doing a delete and reset hasn't helped at all. As a result it's taken me an extra hour to edit a basic cover letter. Will be looking for better alternatives for sure.

At first glance, this app may seem like a handy tool for day to day work at home, work or school. However, unfortunately its underdeveloped ‘pocket sized’ nature is its main flaw.
The first problem that I had was with its lack of features compared to its larger desktop version. I expected this of course, but I did not realise its extent. When Ι say ‘pocket sized’ I really mean it. The interface is clean and sleek simply because it misses so many of the features of its desktop counterpart. Pages of the other hand HAS these features, like the ability to create graphs.
The second problem I found is the reason I’m writing in the first place. I simply cannot explain my frustration in words. This apps main flaw is its inability to save. I have had this problem since I first downloaded it ONE YEAR ago and it is still just as bad. I just lost, less than 5 minutes ago, 3 HOURS of work on an essay contributing to my final grade. 3 HOURS, when word decides to crash and lose it all. Bare in mind, this was after two autosaves and one manual save. It should NOT have disappeared and yet it did.
In summary, don’t buy this app. Not only that, but do what microsoft really deserves, and download pages instead to give them the metaphorical middle finger. Then you won’t have to endure the same suffering that I just have.

Good for text editing, bad for absolutely everything else

Can I just start by saying, I want this app to be good, I really do. I want to be able to use my iPad as a complete laptop replacement, but its this app, alongside the other office apps, which let it down. Simple things like adding photos to a table, resizing images, resizing tables are incredibly hard to do accurately and most of the time, the app just breaks the document to the point I have to go back onto the document on my desktop and fix the car crash which this app has made it. I feel like this app is still, despite iPadOS’ full keyboard and mouse integration, powerful processors and popularity, just designed to make a quick edit to a document when you have no other option and nothing more. I don’t trust the word app for anything more than typing a basic essay: it’s got to the point that when I’m on the go, I log into my uni’s HTML based Remote Desktop client to do office based work. I really want this app to be good, for everything else the iPad is perfect for me, and my favourite (by far) piece of tech to use, but this app just falls so short of the mark. Hopefully the office apps will improve with the introduction of the apple silicon macs, but I wouldn’t bet any money on it.

There is not a single thing wrong with this app. It genuinely has all the features that you could ever need when creating documents! You can change the colour of writing; adjust the font size; type in specific locations of a document due to the amazing text boxes; generating different types of shapes and pictures through your document; and so much more. This is literally the best app you will ever find to be able to write massive documents. And this is for anything-writing; heavy editing and lots of information that is important and needs to be immediately stored in a safe place; whatever you need. There is also Publisher as another app like Word however this takes the cake easily in my opinion. Good quality, beautiful, non glitchy, and NO spending money whatsoever. For just a phone app, this has so much capability and room for inspiration when it comes to how many different things that you can do within this one app. This is basically my only editing app because it is the best! I love it, and I can’t find a single problem with Microsoft Word because of how amazing this app actually is. Well done. Keep up the good work and you will keep flourishing.

I have had several issues since downloading word on my iPad; common issues that seem to date back years and have still not been resolved. Although it is useful for my work, the constant lagging after an hour and a half (you have to close the app and reopen to resolve the issue), losing work because it doesn’t save correctly or rewrites it as a previous copy (not helpful when you finish a 5,000 word essay and the day before the deadline it saves the document as a 3 month old version consisting of a 200 word introduction) and the drastically reduced functions (Doesn’t allow you to set a default font, cannot use headings feature etc.) seriously impedes the effectiveness of this app. I find myself screaming at my screen more often than not; not how I remembered word for mobile being like. Annoying, buggy and disappointing.

It has been a few years since I’ve needed to create any word documents. I’ve been trying to add word onto my iPad for my daughter who’s 7 to become familiar with and so when she edits her work she can do this on screen rather than rewriting whole piece out again! I don’t have a Microsoft account and can not understand why I would need one or have to sign in for my daughter to create a simple word document? Bar at top of screen does not allow me to create new document without first creating Microsoft account and signing in! I understand Microsoft have the monopoly with word documents, but is it really the case that I can not just create a new word document on my computer without paying for it; or having to go online...?..

I have had ms word on my iPad since it was released. It’s good for a lot but if you write more than a couple hundred words the app starts to glitch out and you can have up to a minute keyboard lag per word till you force close the app and go back in. So if you have any intention of writing or editing assignments or anything more than a quarter page. Stick with a computer or be forced to close and reopen several times a page. It’s actually terrible for a multi billion dollar corporation to release something this shoddy. It worked well when they first released it. However they haven’t fixed it in the 18 months since they broke it so they probably don’t care

I use this application on an iPad Pro 2020 and on the whole it is incredible. There are a couple of small gripes that i have in regard to how it runs as after a document gets past a certain amount of words, the application begins to run really slowly. The words do not appear as i type them and it has crashed before. There is also no document recovery feature so once it crashes, you’re then stuck with wherever autosave last saved.
The iPad Pro, at least, has the power to run a fully fledged desktop version of word that i would be willing to pay for as i often find myself using the web version of word.

Up until the last update came out seemed to be working fine on my iPhone. Since the update will randomly stop working - causing me to lose small amounts of data (even with auto save on) - there’s no obvious reason, no error message app just shuts down and when you open it reboots like you’ve manually closed the app. Sometimes this happens once an hour, sometimes it’s every 5 minutes, sometimes I can go half a day without it happening. Figured it was my phone / internet / something I’m doing but as others seem to be having similar issues maybe not.
Please fix crashing, or at least give me a crash report so I know why?

I would usually give this app a 5 stars however there’s been an issue that has been happening lately. The issue is whenever I’m on my computer doing some work on Word and I need to copy and paste something from google into the Word, I copy and paste it. However, once I have done that, the Word document freezes and it becomes white and translucent. It will stay like that until I decide to exit my Word and then it will tell me that Word is not operating correctly. I can either find a solution, exit my Word or wait. My work never saves even if I click it to save which really irritates me. I love to work on Word however it’s becoming more and more difficult to work with. Please fix this problem as if you do, I would submit a 5 stars and use a lot more often as this is drawing me back from using it so much meaning I have to go to different apps and websites to write down my word which is what I do not want to do as I’ve been using Word for a long time and it’s a very reliable source to come to. Thank you.

Word always comes through as the number one choice to work on documents, however i feel as though the word app is lacking when it comes to the iPad Pro. When paired with the magic keyboard it would be much better if the highlighting feature was more like a laptop software when using the track pad. And then the bugs with the highlighting feature is a nightmare.
Would also be great if they fixed the highlighting with trackpad and so then the format painter could also be put to better use.
That’s my only problem, and if that’s sorted, the app would be perfect.

Good overall, but some annoying problems on the iPad. Things like not being able to pick up where you left off, having to search for the last entry - it wasn’t always that way, I would get a welcome back flag. A very slow pick up on typing - I can have three words still to come up whilst on the next. Also only being able to have one document open at any time - it’s slow to load, so is a mission to cut and paste between documents. It crashes often too, especially if I answer a text and then have the rigmarole off searching where I left off again.
Putting photos in as well is a problem. Cropping and then continuing with text I’ve found impossible, there will be a big gap between image and text. Moving the image too is very difficult.
Not sure how long I will persevere with this app.

I first learnt Word in pre-internet days with Word 6 and became a master of it as I did with Word ‘97 and then Word ‘2000 which I used for many years with my Office 2000 version bought on a disc. For the past 5 years, since buying both a new computer and a new iPad, I have used Office 365 which means Word 365. To be honest, whilst I like it, I struggle to do simple things that I could easily do with previous versions. Many of the top line menus seem different and I spend more time ploughing through sub-menus looking for what I want. Now retired I don’t need to do too many complicated things but I did prefer Office/Word 2000.

Mostly great, but one big drawback

Most features are fine and the app works smoothly. Doesn’t lag or jump when the document gets too long like google docs does. But one annoying feature is this app overheats my iPhone. I only have to be using it for a few minutes and my phone gets so hot I have to turn it off for a while to cool down. Not great as I like to work on my documents on the go. I’ve fiddled with the app settings and turned off what I can to prevent my phones processor from doing too much background work, but the problem still persists. I’m cautious to keep using this app as I have visions of my phone blowing up in my hand. Any tips or recommendations for solving this issue would be gratefully received.

Word has always been buggy on Apple platforms. One keeps hoping the upgrades will fix the bugs but mostly they just introduce new features, often at cost.
The latest incarnation of Word for iOS pushes the idea of getting a subscription in order to edit and save. I was about to delete it when I noticed I could still create, edit and save a Word document by creating one in Dropbox. Probably there’s a way to do it without forking out more cash to Microsoft but I haven’t seen it yet.
Word is a must-have program for many, including myself, yet I’ve delayed getting latest upgrades and subscriptions entirely on account of not knowing whether to do so will fix existing bugs (several upgrades haven’t) or even make them worse and risk existing document formatting.
There would be a good argument for several levels of Word, just as there is now, only better defined. On my Macs I want a fully featured Word that doesn’t crash, is reliable over time and between versions, and with good export facilities.
On my iPhone I just want a simple program that I can write texts in Word format and export or share them quickly and easily with my Macs. Once they are on a Mac I might want to do more formatting but at the moment just having a reliable app that isn’t full of bugs or bugware would be good. I’d pay for it, but I won’t pay for a subscription unless I can see it will do what I want.

I use this app every day on my iPad. I have been trying to organise my files and folders after three years but I cannot move multiple files to a new folder in one go - incredibly tedious doing this one file after another. Also there seems to be no way to delete folders once I have finished with them; I can delete the files but not the folders.
Perhaps I am missing something but I am sure this facility of deleting folders should be on here.
The app is great for all my needs but oh to be able to organise files and folders in an easier manner would be wonderful.

I find the app frustating to use when editing text boxes, as the page jumps around alot. The soultion would be to male the interface more user freindly by having a side scroll bar and also entering into an isolated interface when editing text so that it doesnt jump, just like the interface for wrtting this post works. It focuses on what i want to edit and doesnt jump back to another view/text box. The isolation of functions such as drag, expanding text boxes and alingment without another function being accessed accidnetly would ease my and others frustrations.
Its a well designed interms of comolexity and intergrated app but if its not easy to use semlessly it drags the qaulity down greatly.

Useful if working with documents that are supposed to be send or edited by others as most people don’t necessarily use pages app by Apple. Honestly writing documents in pages and exporting them to word Is a bit of a pain ( only takes a few clicks - open word with pages; edit in pages; export to word - and usually has missing fonts ).
It’s a bit tedious when it comes to creating folders for each gmail, outlook, email, Dropbox, OneDrive accounts etc. to save the files in, gotta be careful as it will do a lot of automatic decisions in the begging ( maybe It’s different for others, I’m not 100% mastering the windows apps). Overall it’s super useful for Apple users but not the user friendliest app 😅

I have tried just about everything to fix a problem with my Word app but it still hasn’t been fixed. The Livechat support eventually told me after two long live chats to leave a review to let the developers know that the app has a bug. Hopefully they can fix the problem which is the keyboard doesn’t show the part with the bold, italic, underline formatting options or the hide option. The white bar that is usually above the letters and spelling corrections where these options usually located are completely blank. Occasionally it comes back but after a short while it goes back to being blank. This is making using the app extremely annoying and sometimes it’s unusable for what I wanted it for which is to check and correct documents on my iPhone. I hope that the developers can fix this quickly.

It's useless! No details commands no help. Absolutely useless.

Bought a iMac last year and bought office home and student 2019 as that’s all I’m really going to need. Just bought a new iPad Air 3 and thought to help me do those little jobs I’m wanting to do, but going to the office up stairs is a pain when I’m in front of the tv with the wife. I could just do it there, So why not put Word on the iPad. I sign in All good so far. I can see the files from the onedrive but can I amend them or write a doc ??? Nope.
Nothing is allowed to happen. It’s asking me to sign in for the free one month trial and then want to charge me £5.99 a month for the privilege. It seems that it doesn’t recognise office home and student 2019 basically doesn’t work. I went away from Microsoft and windows as it’s a joke in my opinion, apple is nice and simple. I use Microsoft word to the fullest in my daily life particularly for work writing letters, preparing documents etc. I have recently rewritten a book using word and the dictation facility which is adaptive serves me well.
Ofcourse there are misspellings always when dictating but a writer must proof read his manuscript anyway so the process is no different.
Only one word of caution should you dictate quantities of manuscript or document or even long letters be sure that your saving the document on auto save is effective. If in a poor or none Wi-fi area you may need to switch to saving locally on your device until back in a safe Wi-fi s-area or else you may have what happened to me happen one morning where I dictated 2 hours of work only to find when home that it wasn’t saved! Easy to get around the problem and not Microsoft’s fault. Just worth realising that Microsoft word uses Wi-fi to back up and save.
But I wouldn’t do without Word and think it is great!

I don’t tend to write reviews, but I’ve got so frustrated with trying to use Word on the iPad (Air 3) with the Apple Pencil. I suspect the programme wasn’t tested for documents over a handful of pages, as my thesis chapters (30-40 pages apiece) are incredibly laggy, and marking up documents using the Apple Pencil is akin to bashing your head on a brick wall. Support for the pencil keeps dropping out (although only in the Word app) and markups and highlights are jumping around all over the place. I’ve had to keep restarting the app every page or so, just to get basic functionality. Unfortunately, I don’t have the option to switch software at this stage. Microsoft, please also add the essential feature of document outline, so that we can navigate around longer documents, and a table of contents would be great. Finally, please consider adding referencing integration. At the moment, there is no way that this version of Word on an iPad is suitable for academic work.

It has a number of issues and a lack of quality-of-life features that I am used to from using Word on desktops/laptops for years.
* Not able to type with a hardware keyboard to find a particular font. Have to MANUALLY scroll down a vast list to find a particular font
* Why does it randomly forget my history so that I can’t undo anything when creating a new document? I lost a ton of work through that because of the issue I raised in my first point. I tried typing whilst the font picker was open and I lost work and it wouldn’t undo
* Overall, what’s wrong with keyboard shortcuts? I use a bluetooth keyboard and things like command + enter aren’t supported. You really want me to press enter fifteen times like an ANIMAL? (:D)

Everything was fine till I updated then a piece of work just vanished, the file was still there under its file name but the contents were gone. What used to be 3000+ words now two staring blankly at me. I tried to restore previous versions but the file only had the first version I created with the same two words.
Now I frequently returned back to this document after creating it and then onedrive updated itself and everything was fine. Or so I thought. Days later I wanted to check on the file for reference and lo and behold it was empty and all the previous versions had gone too. I know its only one file but what's to say this doesn't happen again. Safe to say this is the reason why I have trust issues, not even a simple software can guarantee the protection of my hard work.

Love word, have done since i first used it back in the 90’s, just as good as ever, and now for the but.....
Once upon a time you could set your default font with which ever one took your fancy, i like times new roman for my writing, then when they took that option out, you could click on a recently used font, ok, it worked. Now you are given a default font, Calibri, i think, which i don't like, but now i have to scroll through the list every time i want to write, its a pain. I have emailed them through the app about it and all they have done is change the icon style on the iPad, useless.
It really cant be that hard to add this option.

I think this app is stellar. It has enabled me to replace my laptop at uni with just my iPad, it makes everything so much easier. Combined with the Apple Pencil, I’m able to go paperless, but with the benefits of paper. Just one bug fix which needs to be fixed, and urgently, whenever I type using a Bluetooth keyboard in word (but not any other app), it capitalises the letter ‘i’ whether or not it’s at the start of a sentence, even in words like is or it, and there’s no way to stop this! Even by turning off autocapitalisation on my iPad’s settings there’s no change. Please fix this! Otherwise I have to go to a computer to correct the grammar errors placed by Microsoft themselves. Thanks!

I was excited when my boss gave me the go ahead to do a POC for the IPad Pro for work. Word, being one of the main applications that we use, is what gave me the most problems. There are large reports that I need to create and I came across numerous problems whilst trying this out. 1. You can’t open more that one Word Document at a time 2. There is a really small limit to what you can ‘undo’ 3. Word freezes intermittently and doesn’t save the last few sentences you wrote, you need to close the app down and re-open to get it to work.
I did find that it worked really good for small 1 or 2 page documents and it is almost there but I feel that the app may never have the full capabilities of Word for Windows.

I’m soooo Thankful for Word :)

Word is such a handy, useful and simple app that helps me with my writing, typing and English. It has helped me with essays and stories. I find it useful because you can document work, write notes, posters and much more. It also, helps me with my GCSE’s I can practice writing and much more.
But, most importantly its has features that allow you to copy, paste, resize, colour and many more. My personal fav is when I’m printing pictures off onto photo card because I and choose a style on my pictures with is either a border or shape.
I 100% recommend getting this I haven’t had any trouble with it on my iPad but, that’s probably because I use a Bluetooth keyboard, although I think Microsoft have created a great app suitable for and writing/ typing situation.
What I also love about this app is that I can use it while I have no internet or WiFi so I can still do work :)
Thank you Microsoft for such a helpful app it has always helped me! :)

I never mastered typewriters in the days when they were the only way to type a letter. But I don't feel I have lost the opportunity to learn. Word is based the principles of a typewriter and as such does not fit with the intuitive operation that other programmes, developed for modern equipment and practices, do so well.
Unless you are a competent regular user (and who has the time to commit to that) you will spend a lot of time reading help menus if you want to do anything more than the most basic operations.
If I want to do anything the least bit complicated I use a graphics package where I have full control over text positioning, sizing, fonts, tabs etc., without having the text completely rearrange itself every time I change something.

Look, we have Word on our iPads people, that’s awesome in itself. Running an app that was originally designed specifically for computers is pretty impressive... or is it? How can there be so little features on such a powerful device, such as the iPad Pro? I’ve had to change to Pages, even though I am far more familiar with Word. Even a feature as simple as being able to alphabetise simple lists does not exist. The iPad Pro cash be considered to be more powerful that MacBooks of the past, and they were fully capable of running the full package of Word, so why cant the iPad? I genuinely think that Notes has got nearly all of the features that Word has to offer. It’s almost as if we’re using a ‘beta’ version of an expensive compilation of apps

Until recently, I was loving this app but since the last update it’s really hit and miss. It often won’t select text to cut and paste and won’t always save documents which is really frustrating. Not the end of the world as it usually gets there in the end, but it really does make basic tasks much more time consuming than they were.
Update:Virtually useless on iPad now. Freezes constantly, more often than not won’t do basics like editing or saving. Went to Word after becoming frustrated with the shortcomings and glitches of google docs but now docs is not perfect but still far more the reliable of the two. I realise Microsoft are wanting people to take out subscriptions but apart from the fact I can’t really afford to, on the strength of this, I wouldn’t anyway.

I nearly gave this a four star but I gave it five stars because there isn't many other apps to beat Word. The only reason that it could have had 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ is because it took ages to download and I really wanted to do something but there is no problem with the actual app in its self. I love word and I love writing long pieces of work on it because there are so many options to use to make the work you do your own. Absolutely abysmal app made by people who clearly don’t know how to design anything. It was working earlier today, but all of a sudden it’s now not recognising my sign-in, and is repeatedly prompting me to log-in to edit documents I have been looking at all day on my iPhone 8.
I’ve reinstalled and have even changed my password to no avail. Despite being an Office 365 subscriber, I have received absolutely no support regarding this issue, and can no longer work. If you can avoid it, do so. It really is not worth your money or stress.
I shall be looking for an alternative solution to all Microsoft products from here on out.

A good product that’s been spoilt

Version 2.5
I’ve been using Word for files kept in OneDrive for some time now. With each release it has been made less user- friendly and less usable. In a previous release, files which used to open from One Drive straight into Word on the iPad and were up-dateable, changed to open in some sort of Word reader and I needed to send them to Word to update them, which was an un-necessary step and a hindrance. In the latest version files which I am used to being able to maintain and update now seem to be un-updateable. For some reason they have been marked as Read Only, when they are MY files and I want to update them... I’m not impressed with the direction this is all taking!

Very useful but...

I know most users want to auto save their work as they're going along but I don't. I use it for my work quotes so generally use one as a template and just edit a few bits, then save as another project.
I wish their was an option to turn off auto save permanently. I know you can turn it off when you open the document, but I sometimes forget that and before I think about it, I've already changed loads.
I also wish there was a 'tab' key. I used to use that a lot on Word on my laptop. There's maybe another way I don't yet know about, but I tend to have to put a hundred odd 'spaces' in to get the desired effect.
