Description

HINGE, DESIGNED TO BE DELETED
Hinge is the dating app for people who want to get off dating apps. And it’s working. Currently, 3 out of 4 times Hinge members want to go on a second date, we’re the #1 mobile-first dating app mentioned in the New York Times wedding section, and we’re the fastest growing dating app in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.
HOW WE GET YOU OFF HINGE
In today’s digital world, singles are so busy matching that they’re not actually connecting, in person, where it counts. Hinge is on a mission to change that. So we built an app that’s designed to be deleted.
* We quickly learn your type. You’ll only be introduced to the best people for you.
* We give you a sense of someone’s personality. You’ll get to know potential dates through their unique answers to prompts, and personal information like religion, height, and politics.
* We make it easy to start a conversation. Every match begins by someone liking or commenting on a specific part of your profile.
* We ask how your dates are going. After exchanging phone numbers with a Match, we’ll follow up to hear how your date went so we can make better recommendations in the future.
The app is free to use. Members looking to see who likes them or to set advanced preferences can upgrade to a Preferred Membership.
THE BUZZ ABOUT HINGE
“Hinge’s CEO says a good dating app relies on vulnerability, not algorithms.” - Washington Post
"Hinge is the first dating app to actually measure real-world success" - TechCrunch
“A great option for those fed up with temporary love.” -TheNextWeb

App Store reviews suggest this is much better than tinder but I’ve found it to be worse. The UI is about as basic as an online form & I still can’t find how to refresh/update, I’ve been stuck seeing the same 2 profiles for about a week with no way of moving on to anyone else. From my point of view you’d be lucky to make any progress using this

Great presentation ( with implementation of videos and voice notes on the profile being almost seamless / easy to load ) and giving the user a chance to show how well- rounded he / she is in terms of prompts info in connection with photos .
Overall, the best app on the store without a shadow of a doubt 👏🙌😄.

This app is good but for the past month I haven’t been able to get anything out of it at all. I’ve sent out many messages and likes and got nothing back not even a match. And every time I try to upgrade i keep getting the same “Transaction error” message this whole month. 👎

Annoying bug and a big con

Good luck in getting anyone you like to reply. They either don’t exist or are no longer on their site. When you do find someone interesting, they live somewhere you’ve never heard of, so you exit, Google their home, go back, and you’ve lost them for good. It’s then pot luck if you’ll see them again. Also - a big con - is Hinge makes you pay for “Roses” to send to “popular” people, or to bump you up the list so they see you first. Absolutely doesn’t work. Waste of money. Probably not even legal under consumer services act.

I don’t know what’s happened in the past year or what kind of awful algorithm has been introduced to ruin the app. I’ve used Hinge several times over the past few years and always have a steady stream of likes each day on both a paid and free profile! I left in December after matching with my now ex, and returned last week on a new account (as I fully deleted the old one) and to my surprise, little to no likes at all. I can count on one hand how many which makes me wonder if my profile is even visble… feels like I’ve been banned without my knowledge. I even paid for a subscription thinking that perhaps they’ve introduced a paywall but no change. I contacted support and received a generic unhelpful answer. So now I’m just waiting out the rest of my subscription before I delete - forever this time.

I literally just got the hinge app yesterday. I’m new to the app so I’m still getting used to the features. Next thing I know I’m banned. And after I got a monthly subscription. So I’ve had it for less than a day. And now I have to get a refund request from Apple which isn’t guaranteed at all. I don’t see that I’ve done anything wrong on my account. Frankly I’d like the account back

Downloaded the app for a week, failed selfie verification for more than 5 times (basically the verification will always say “try again later” immediately after the process) I used recent and good quality pictures. Escalated to help desk, but very unresponsive; basically no response. Deleted before use. At least it was true to “designed to be deleted”.

So I woke up one morning to find out I had been banned and I could appeal, I obviously did but I had done anything to break the terms of service. They got back to me with hours which was nice but it was to tell me that it will stay banned without any reason as to why and that if I logged a further appeal it wouldn’t be looked into. I think it’s not fair at all if I’m honest I know you want to protect your users but I should at least be told what I had done because I honestly have no idea

Version 9.28.0
Ok the dating aspect of this app is quite good and more personable than the likes of tinder however, I cannot stand the swipe feature on this app. When you swipe no to a profile it takes a second for the next profile to come up but the motion of it makes me so dizzy I actually have to come off the app - it basically swipes up really fast and the constant motion of that makes me so dizzy!! I wish it didn’t have that horrible animation and just showed the next profile quick like tinder does.

I was using this app for over a year with a paid subscription and then all of a sudden my accounts locked for violating terms and conditions even though I’ve been using it exactly the same all this time. Emailed support then confirmed my account is deleted but won’t respond to why and are now completely ignoring me. The apps compatibility match makes no sense and felt like there was a lot of fake people on there that hinge would promote. Definitely better real dating apps out there don’t waste your time with this one.

I’ve had binge for around a year now, deleting it but downloading it again twice and always using the same account. And this morning I woke up to my account being banned, after reading the Terms Of service documents I have absolutely NO idea on why. On its own it is annoying, but considering I had a date lined up with someone I have been talking to for a while now. Because of this random ban i cannot contact them at all, I very much hope this is a one time thing for Hinge and that randomly banning accounts for no clear reason at all isn't frequent. I am expecting my account to be unbanned soon.

Version 9.28.0
I am leaving this review because i just wanted to thank hinge for being the thing that allowed me to meet the best person in my life.
Me and my girlfriend are approaching our 2 year anniversary, 11th August 2023, and i feel so lucky to have met her and it’s all because of this app.
We have spent so much time together and moved in together around our 1 year anniversary which has been honestly amazing.
I have met so many of her friends and her family and this is all because of a dating app made to be deleted, which is exactly what happened.
My girlfriend is the one thing that i will forever keep in my life and i can’t wait to have her as my wife.

Shocking decline in quality

Version 9.28.0
I last used this app a couple of years back and it was decent, re-downloaded it and now all of the good people are behind a paywall, if you don’t pay you get left with swamp creatures and bots. If you go to delete your account they’ll let you “refresh” your feed every once in a while and you get one day of passable options again to lure you into staying, then it’s back to the same. This makes it really obvious those people are there, you’re just not being given access to them if you don’t pay but I’d rather eat glass than pay for a dating app.

The app looks great, but I can’t use it to its full potential as I’m unable to pay for premium services. A keep getting a generic transaction error.
I’ve flagged this to customer service over 3 weeks ago, received a reply that it was being escalated asap and then heard nothing since. I’ve followed up nicely several times to ask what the situation is and had nothing back. Not even a cursory response.
I don’t like leaving bad reviews but the silence isn’t acceptable, it’s lazy customer service.

Version 9.27.0
I love the extent of all the features, you can add as much or as little detail as you like which is great on a dating app.
Really handy prompts and guides (although I’m sad to say it seems the majority of people don’t appear to use them!).
I like that there’s lots of conversation starters through the prompts, so the focus isn’t just on photos and appearance like a lot of other apps.
I’m frustrated with the chat element though. Arguably the most important part and it’s nearly always glitchy - messages take ages to come through or simply don’t send at all, particularly voice notes.
I don’t like that if you scroll off the screen while listening to a voice note, it stops it and reverts back to the beginning! The tech needs improving there.

If you ever have a problem with the app, no one is there to help. No phone number, no chat options, only a very dumb bot on their website who just redirects you to either the FAQ or “send us an email” - which they then say may take a while to get back to you due to a high volume of requests… if you have a high volume of requests, maybe you should invest in an actual team of humans to sort stuff out?! I have not seen any real benefit to the membership despite using all the features such as unlimited likes etc and don’t currently feel the preferred membership has offered value for money. Contacts to customer services/support have been awful and although they replied to my first request, they haven’t responded to any other requests since and feel this is poor, considering the size of the company. I was using hinge to meet someone. I finally did, so I did the correct thing, and deleted my profile, and stopped using my account, this is the right thing to do I thought. Obviously not. Unfortunately the relationship did not work out. So I tried to re-install my account, only to be told that I was banned. I contacted customer support, only to be told that due to my actions ( which were unexplained) I was no longer permitted to use hinge. There was no explanation just a lifetime ban for doing absolutely nothing wrong. The customer support/ service was an absolute joke. Instead of supporting my concern and explaining the issue, and trying to work through it with me they just took the easy option of banning me. These websites have no customer care.

Hinge, like so many dating apps, sadly, is a scam.
I have recently (and finally) seen evidence of this in action. Earlier on this week, I recognised three of the profiles in my “standout” section (the profiles you have to pay to message) as I’d been on dates with them in the past. Yesterday, as I have my settings quite tight, I got a notification of no more profiles in my area matching my preferences, so no one else to swipe through, and I’ve not seen any of these three profiles pop up on my free feed. Today, two of the three have re-appeared in the “standout” section.
Put simply, the app hides the most popular profiles behind a paywall, and leaves others for you to cycle through and refuse. At best this is a scam. At worst, this is fraud, and I will be taking this up with Apple, as this kind of practice is incredibly unethical.

I’ve used many different dating apps, but I like this one the best. There’s minimal writing and I like the prompts. My only complaint is the issues I’m having with messages. Is there a limit to how many messages you can send or receive in one day? For some reason my chats clear and I can no longer see all the previous messages. It is so annoying!!!! I’ve reported it, but no one got back to me.
I would like if they had a black Caribbean option. Having talked to people, some are kicking “other” because they feel black African doesn't apply to them.

Used Hinge off and on for a few years over lockdown. Unfortunately the standouts feature has changed the way that the app now works. The app promotes heavy usage. It hides those who are the most compatible through usage behind a poorly conceptually conceived paywall. Hinge prompts are unique and fun and could encourage better genuine interaction. However, this is rarely ever the case. Over the past few years I have matched with many people, deeper interaction could be numbered on one hand and never lead to anything in real life. So ironing out of these compatibility issues and greater encouragement of real engagement would need to be introduced in order to make this worthwhile.
EDIT: Bought (near £50!!!) subscription and kinda regretting it now. Wish that I could get my money back. No significant change in app. IRL > URL.

You made your algorithm to milk money even you have X subscription

Hinge, oh Hinge, what a disappointment you turned out to be. Despite subscribing to the Hinge X package with high hopes of a premium dating experience, it quickly became apparent that your algorithm was designed to do nothing more than squeeze money out of its users.
The premise of a paid subscription like Hinge X is to provide enhanced features and a better chance at finding meaningful connections. However, I soon realized that this was just a clever ruse to exploit users financially. Even with the so-called "premium" subscription, the algorithm seemed hell-bent on pushing me towards spending more money at every possible opportunity.
Instead of focusing on delivering a quality dating service, it felt like Hinge was more interested in maximizing profits. The algorithm consistently bombarded me with prompts to purchase additional features and boosts, making it clear that the goal was to milk every last cent out of its users, regardless of their subscription level.

I’m 31 and tbf less likely to swipe everyday for about 2 months and not having up to 3 matches, I’m not even talking about the interaction I had as how will I without even matching?lol I’ve had quite a lot of matches when I first used the app back around 2018. I even upgraded to the premium version and there is absolutely no difference. You just get unlimited likes yes but still no matches. It’s even more frustrating and the app keeps telling you to upgrade to a higher level. All about taking your money and give you absolutely nothing. I subscribed for the premium version for about 3 months and I’ve not been able to get more than 4 matches. I cancelled my subscription and deleted the app and I don’t think I will download it again. I’ve managed to go on a few dates from other apps which were meant to be worse than hinge, this app has become an absolute joke. I will never download it ever again. If there was a 0 star option I would’ve gone for that instead

Just awful

So signed up, stuck to the free version for a couple of hours and had some really nice people (on the face of it ) pop up. Unfortunately I’m of the age where the ‘gents! Appropriate for my age, Despite wanting fulfilling relationships are definitely not interested in anyone over 35! That’s not the sites fault obviously but it does lull you into a false sense of security. The Ap worked better than the bumble app for downloading the information etc but because of the technical glitches I swapped to hinge on recommendation of friend. Interestingly a number of the same faces popped up! I thought I’d try premium and see if that would get rid of some the time wasters and chancers. It got worse !!! Despite setting my age limits as a deal breaker at 50 minimum. I was getting 19 year old boys popping up .. 19!!!!!! Do they not go out anymore ? Are there no 19 year old girls out there for them !!, I am 51 I absolutely do not want to be matched with 19yr olds.
So I’ve now requested my 2nd refund this weekend from Apple. The Ap is clearly not working in the sense of allowing you to set preferences once you’ve paid ! … I’ve decided I actually have a really nice life, with really lovely people around me, I think I’ll stay single for now and enjoy getting out and meeting people in real life.

Genuinely very impressed.

I have never left reviews aside from Airbnb’s. This app is fantastic. I downloaded 2 weeks ago and used the free version, and I have already made many plans with many girls and even got to get it on 😏 with a lady much older than me. Found exactly what I was looking for, no strings attached type relationships. However, I am open to long. Gotta say this is way better than tinder and any other app I’ve ever used and deleted after a week. Cannot thank hinge enough seriously. As the title says I’m genuinely very impressed😂 will be using a lot more and maybe even paying for the upgrade. I want any reader to know I never leave reviews for anything like this, I just am very happy that I got action very quickly as well as plenty of action on the way😉. Cannot recommend enough. Hinge, you’ve been great.
All the best,

After using Hinge for several months and going on 2 dates from it, which both went well, my account was suddenly banned out of the blue. No warning, no indications and no reasons given. All it said was “I was in violation of the terms and guidelines”. So I had to appeal and you only get one chance, by explaining “How you are not in violation of the terms and guidelines” but how can you do that when you haven’t even been given the reason as to why you were banned? I was getting matches and going on dates, everything seemed fine. I had no clue what was going on.
So I appealed the decision and also asked for an explanation, all I got back was “Our team confirmed that you are in violation of our terms and guidelines therefore your account will remain banned, this decision is final”. They refused to provide anything else and just left it at that. Terrible customer service.

After being single on and off for a while, I’ve finally found her through Hinge. I’ve used Tinder, Bumble and Hinge over the years and for someone looking for something more serious this is by far the best. Tinder used to be great when it first came out but now it’s just full of fake profiles so Hinge or Bumble is the way to go. Hinge just nails what you want in a dating app, it’s easy to use and the people can’t go crazy with swipes (unless you pay) so I found that when I got a match it was typically always a better convo than any other app. After about a year on there I’ve finally met who I think could be the one.

Ever since I first started using this app, I’ve had none stop problems with it. Not only can the people u meet on the app be extremely rude, catfish or just play u around, but the app itself is plagued with problems. If u don’t wanna spend the ridiculous price to be a “preferred member”, then u have to put up with an extremely basic & buggy service. I’ve had to deal with stuff like glitched messages & whole conversations being wiped out the blue. Plus I’ve heard from other people that ur account can be taken down out the blue as well without doing anything wrong. Overall, though it’s slightly better than tinder, I’d strongly recommend to whoever is reading this not to waste ur time with this app (& the same goes for pretty much all the other main dating apps) & instead go out & mingle in person or join a society/club to meet people. All this app will do is make you feel awful & will leave you in constant limbo.

Okay, not great

Version 9.12.0
I joined first on the free version. Then upgraded to paid.
There must be something off in the algorithms. The people it said “we think you’d make a great pair” with were absolutely off my radar?! I have had a few chats. Connections are few and far between. I’m a good looking woman, good career & personality (reviewed by friends!) so I think they limit who they show you too? I also find in my area (rural Cotswolds) there are few connections. So out of curiosity I extended to 70 miles - still not much?! Does that mean it’s just not popular.
I’d say stick to Bumble as Hinge is expensive.
Also, I find it frustrating that notifications don’t work. For example a chat response comes in, you have to open the app to even know it’s there as the sound & badge don’t work. But once you’ve read that notification, annoyingly the badge stays on as if to tell you you have a new message, when you don’t. That’s an easy tech issue to apply a fix to. I’m on iPhone XR for reference & maybe you can fix this bug?

I’ve used hinge for about two years consistently and it honestly hasn’t worked for me. The positives are, you are able to narrow down your match criteria a lot more than other apps which does allow you to find people faster as well as having a more user friendly interface than other dating apps. However, you still get the catfishing, potentially robot accounts (that never reply to you if they match) and of course, the time wasters that talk to you for a few days/weeks before spontaneously unmatching you without even an inclination that there was an issue. It’s not all doom and gloom, there are still genuine people on hinge but it’s far and few between in my experience. Moral: if you’re serious about finding someone (or you’re fairly sensitive to rejection) this app isn’t for you.

Surprise, surprise another sexist dating app banning men for tiny reasons while allowing women to make abusive and rude comments to men. You literally can not respond to anything because as soon as you say one thing back your account is banned. It’s the same on all dating apps and woke culture is ruining everyone’s experience. You’ll run into the same women over and over again that seem to be single no matter how many times you have an account in between other relationships you may pick up it’s the same bunch of women ready to match you for the fifth time only to waste your time and talk and talk but never meet. I’ve reported multiple women for being abusive and sexist and not heard a single response but the one time I observe and call a woman fat then it’s instant ban ? Horrible double standards and it’s just boring at this point. Don’t waste your time or your money.

Just another predatory dating app looking to make a quick buck out of peoples hope of finding love. I despair. This app appears to market itself as something meaningful, as compared to the likes of Tinder. But they’re all the same, just after your money. Absolute junk too, couldn’t count even one meaningful interaction out of a few months of use, to the point I actually started questioning if these “people” were for real, the world really is full of thickos Get lost! Turns out after reading a news story about the creator of this app, the guy is a complete tool with a flippant mrs, some kind of tragic comedy. They are right that the app is meant to be deleted, why are there so many junk mobile apps(Apple????), smart phones are a huge disappointment and are only enjoyed by stupid low IQ and low standards people it seems The fact that this predatory app is still available for download is a reflection of Apple, but should we be surprised? Hinge on the face of it seems better than others, with lots of interesting people at least when you first join.
However, the first thing I’d say is don’t bother paying for membership, I did it on the spur of the moment and it really isn’t worth it. I thought it might mean you got more exposure etc, therefore more likes, but it doesn’t. I didn’t have any more likes or matches than when I didn’t have a Preferred membership. Obviously more exposure wouldn’t make you more attractive (haha) but it is a numbers game after all, so more exposure for the price would be a welcome change to make this app better value for money.
The app itself is pretty easy to use but the limited likes are a bit annoying at times. I also frequently see people I have liked before come up in my discover feed, which definitely shouldn’t happen as they obviously didn’t match with me the first time! All in all a pretty dissatisfying app, I have had a few dates from it but just nothing decent. Likely will delete it!

Hinge was definitely my favourite dating app, super good layout and way better and properly getting to know people. I liked the system with matches and likes - all very good. But for some reason they banned my account (I genuinely have no reason to believe I have violated any terms of service or community guidelines) and I can’t get it back after appealing. They don’t tell you why - for the safety of the user who reported you. My guess is if you have a match that gets salty with you, they can report you and your account goes just like that. So frustrating. I’ve lost so many people I hadn’t connected with elsewhere. Not ideal :( And I don’t know if my account is still up, where my information is etc. because they won’t tell me!

Disgusting client confidentiality and respect.

Having spent 3 years on and off Hinge I thought it was a little classier than the rest.
Recently someone I matched said that they had been warned my profile was fake. They also said Hinge had banned me. At no point was any of my profile anything other than 100% me, true, upto date, genuine, always polite and respectful.
Hinge never told me I was banned. But my match did so I investigated, seems I was banned then appealed. They apologised and said I could continue, but since that I haven’t been able to download the app. They message all my matches and told them I was a fake profile.
Never did they tell me, or ask me any questions, never did they show any evidence or my alleged fake profile. It’s seems if someone doesn’t like you on Hinge, maybe a match you stopped chatting with or similar. That person can report you and get you banned without any evidence or trail.
False information has been passed from Hinge to my matches. More importantly one in particular match I was really getting along with. Disgusting, unfair, a disregard for my profile and my personal information. 0 / 10

I first got Hinge in around 2017 and thought it was so much better than Bumble and Tinder because of the functionality. Being able to respond to specific prompts with comments gives people a chance to show their personality from the offset, so it’s great that it doesn’t feel like a surface level connection. What HAS changed since 2017 is the algorithm. For the few years there were a mix of profiles as with every dating app where you like some and you don’t like. Then they introduced “Standouts”. These are the profiles that Hinge think you will like the most, and they’re right! But the there are several issues: - They don’t show up on your main feed - You can only like them with a Rose, which is a different sort of “like” which in my opinion is pointless seeing as you can see the profiles of people who like you anyway - You get one free Rose a week, or you can pay £3 each. Effectively the functionality and concept is there, but after a while it won’t show you anyone you’ll actually like unless you pay.

Hinge definitely works!!!

I downloaded Hinge February 2021, I’d had it a couple of days if that and came across a profile that I liked the look of. I messaged the guy as he had the same interests as me and he looked friendly so we got talking. The first night we were messaging, it lasted from around 7pm until 3:30 in the morning and I have never had that before with anyone. We had known each other for literally 10 days and he asked me to be his girlfriend.
14 months later, he is the love of my life and we are the happiest we’ve ever been. I didn’t even pay for any memberships so whether I was just lucky or the fact this app genuinely matches you up with people that are suited to you, it works. I’m so grateful for Hinge for matching me with my man🥰

Now I'm not one to post reviews based on bad experiences. I tend to see the overall picture. However..I have been banned by this site, why? I've no idea as they don't feel it's ethical, professional or just the decent thing to do, to tell me why for fear of breaking someone else's confidentiality (on who may or may not, I suspect) have reported me. I suspect it's because I repeatedly reported a profile that consistently breached their terms and conditions by not having any photos up and breathing sounds on audio. Let's keep the site safe they say. Clearly you are not able as a site to uphold that yourself. The quality of men is not great. Despite that I have made some good friends and the overall experience has been enjoyable. On that note...it's not a true ban as anyone can rejoin under a different guise. Just like the suspicious profiles you repeatedly allow on your site. It's poorly moderated, badly managed and customer service lacks fairness and open communication on hearing both sides to an issue. I now wear my Banned Badge with pride and consider you've done me a favour by relieving me from the lack of quality that is evident on the app. Hinge is very UnHinged. I won't be rejoining.

Highly recommended 🥰

So… I first ever started online dating in 2015 and was on and off some of the main apps for several years (Bumble, Happn and Tinder). Overall it wasn’t a smooth journey and finding a true match wasn’t easy to come by. After some time away from online dating and when I felt ready, I decided to try Hinge at the very start of 2021 and instantly liked the layout, the way you can create your profile and add a little quirkiness to it. I was quite picky who I got chatting to because I wanted to find someone who felt right for me and me for them. I only spoke to a few people on Hinge, but they appeared to be more genuine compared to people I had spoken to (and met) on other dating apps in the past. By spring of 2021 I had deleted my Hinge account because I met someone very special on there who is now my boyfriend. We’ve known each other over a year, we are extremely happy and moved in together at the start of 2022. I recommend this dating app to someone who is looking for a serious relationship but I can understand that not everyone’s experience of using Hinge has been a positive one. Dating in general isn’t black and white, even more so during the pandemic began. Lastly, I have never left a review for dating apps before and have been in longterm relationships that began from meeting people online, but I found this particular app to be the most positive dating experience and enjoyed using the app itself. Happy dating 💕

I used hinge on and off for around a year with no results. In fact, the app actively seemed to be stopping me from being able to see the rupee of person who I would be interested in. So, I took the leap and decided to pay for it. No surprise, I suddenly started to see people I was more attracted to. Still not particularly attracted to, but more. I made the effort, swiped sent roses, responded to prompts, perfected my profile and eventually it started to pick up. But the app still limited me. Was still not seeing the most attractive people and I’d get a pattern of receiving 2 likes per day in quick succession - as if the app was suddenly showing me to people until I got 2 likes and then stopped. Even with paying i was still only sending out about 1 or 2 likes per day because I never felt the people shown were compatible with me or attractive. Anyway, I went it to a pub, chatted to a girl and am now dating someone incredible - who was also on hinge lived 3 miles away but we never saw each other on the app. Good job hinge.

So I got blocked before Christmas (it’s now March) and I emailed to find out why. I hadn’t broken any of the rules and actually wasn’t it much communication on it at the time. I emailed customer service and they told me that apparently my account was linked to one of their other platforms and that the rules of the “community” was broken there. I responded to say that I didn’t have any other apps, hinge was the only one, and if they can look into my communications on there. Plus I also wanted to know if as well as my details, any photos where used. No response. I waited a month and asked again. No response. I wanted another month. No response. As it stands, I still have no response, and I feel like hinge don’t do much to provide any insight. Further to this they just ignore you while your profile and information is out there without you being able to have access to it. There is a note to say if you keep emailing your emails will go to the bottom of the pile, and I understand that. But zero response in 4 months isn’t customer service at all.

This app is definitely better than others out there if you’re looking for a real connection rather than a one nighter (although that doesn’t stop the one nighters/sexters from trying their luck anyway)
Negative about this (and probably all the others to be fair) is that they kinda trick you in the beginning with lots of good looking people who match with you but never talk, I’ve realised these are more than likely bots/fake profiles created to make the app look more desirable.
Also the key is patience with this one, my matches are few and far between compared to tinder or bumble where I’m matching about 80% of the time, perhaps this is because they don’t show your profile to everyone at once or maybe people are just less active on here. You also can’t see everyone who’s liked you at once, you have to go though them one by one and decide if you like them or not then you must use one of your limited likes to match with them.
Conclusion, it’s a slow burner but still better than other apps and filters out Some of the “can’t be bothered, just want to sexters”

excessive ban policy

Shocking lifetime ban policy with now way to contest argue or even understand what went wrong. This is an absolute disgrace in our society, even when you commit the worse crime in real life you get a better respect and more rights. No matter the reason of the ban, this kind of app with such a policy should not be allowed in our society and on a platform like apple.
Now let’s talk about the reason of the ban (no I am not an responsible for abusing behaviour which you might think deserve to be banned)
I initially thought about revenge reporting then saw on internet they ban you for removing and recreating your account (due to initial boost to new account, their way to make you pay for subscription few days later when u see the activity on your account dies out).
Anyway simple case this time…set up new account, everything seemed working fine apart that no matches and transaction error when trying to subscribe. Decided to delete and recreate the account as i thought something went wrong. Got directly the ban message when recreating the account. I had no match before deleting the app this time so can’t be through reporting but only from delete and recreating my account within 30min!
I will report hinge’s behaviour to
apple. Hopefully they will get a lifetime ban!

I have so many mixed feelings about Hinge but firstly want to say that my issues with it aren’t to do with the app or developers.
As far as dating apps go, Hinge is absolutely choice number one. The interface and design are much better, fresher, and more thoughtful than its peers (Tinder, Bumble). There’s a clear focus on prompts designed to be more meaningful, decent filtering and preference options, and all in all it’s intuitive.
The unfortunate downside is that while Hinge’s mission may be to help people find love and ditch the app, and to put effort into meaningful connection, it’s now used just as carelessly as every other app out there. Tinder seems to have been relegated to the bottom of the pile with Bumble in the middle and Hinge at the top, not in terms of seriousness, but in class. Nobody on Hinge (men or women) seems to be interested in anything than slightly higher brow no-strings behaviour.
A lovely concept, but people aren’t following or interested in Hinge’s mission. There’s higher emotional literacy but so far I’ve only seen it used to emotionally manipulate in a more nuanced and intelligent way than the straight up verbal battery found on something like Tinder.

I have been banned in an instance for the unknown reason! Full stop! A generic message from Hinge: “If you would like to appeal your account ban, please submit your request here” Wow! My answer to that is: how can I submit an appeal for (or against) something if I don’t know what that something is?! No explanation given when tried to appeal (apparently to protect the privacy of those who have reported me (another generic message), what if they have lied? Who is the judge in this case? A moderator? Justin McLeod? A God? 🤭)! If someone decides to report you because you didn’t spend enough time chatting to them - you suddenly become an outlaw! (Good move, Hinge! Although somehow - one sided!.. ) That’s an easy way out! And… yeah, I honestly still don’t understand why I have been banned from this app, not that I cannot live without it, not that I care, but it’s just my curiosity I must admit! It’s absolutely ridiculous! Good luck to those genuine people like myself who decide to sign up for this app! (Fingers crossed 🤞 you won’t get banned like myself!)

After being in a toxic marriage I was finally divorced, feeling alive again and throwing myself back in the dating world, the dates to begin with are fun and exciting then you have phases where it’s tedious - trust me keep going. Take some time out periods, but keep the app in the background. I found the love of my life and a year later we first swiped we are now engaged - he proposed on our first anniversary. My fiancée is a kiwi, and he is in UK only for a short while. The love of my life, my soul mate, the real key to my peace, happiness and adventure was actually living in the Southern Hemisphere and I would not have had the chance to have meet him If it wasn’t for hinge. In fact I initially swiped left for him, and THANK GOD hinge still allows messages from people who swipe for you to come through. My life has only just begun, and I owe it all to this app!!!

The Standout feature means I’ll never match anyone I like

I noticed the Standout feature and thought it was a bit weird- looked like another money making scheme- but didn’t think much more of it. Then, after researching it and learning about what it was, I understood why I was having such a terrible experience on Hinge, not seeing anyone in my Discover feed that I might actually be interested in, and I deleted the app straight away. Hinge uses an algorithm to work out who you’re most likely to be into based on your swipes. It puts all potential prospects together under the Standout tab. BUT to try and match them you have to send a cringey Rose instead of a Like and you get just one per week. And the worst part is: the people in Standouts never appear on your Discover feed. So, you will never have a chance to match the people that you are best suited to you unless you pay Hinge money. It’s appalling that Hinge can’t just be up front and admit that they are really a paid service. Hinge has become a money grabbing waste of time and should be avoided.

Cool App But Too Pricey

This is a cool App somehow, different than the others but the reason why I am giving 3 stars is because is pricey. In like probably 30 likes in profiles that I did if probably 3 returned to me is already a lot. Because the problem is, if a lot of people like that person and that person don’t have the premium Hinge they will never see that you liked at all because only the last like can be seen and I am sure that people are not attached to the app 24/7 so is a bad thing because makes you to somehow get the premium to be able to see all the other likes and interact with them if the person connects. Plus, I feel like people here ignore you more than some other dating apps unless you are a very good looking guy or girl, but those yeahh the daily likes exceed for sure. This app should be a bit more accessible in my opinion. Just saying.

Not worth it

You’re limited to what feels like 5 likes or so a day, which is very limiting. The app works well and it does encourage some decent conversation. However, due to the low number of likes you’re given and also due to the fact that half the profiles seem to be inactive, matches are few and far between even with high like numbers.
I wouldn’t mind low likes as such, but the premium services of the app are ridiculously expensive and do not entice me to ‘have a go’. Either they need to increase the number of likes or features given to free users or bring down the price of the premium services, or even just do an offer every now and then. Otherwise users won’t see the point in paying £30 a month when they don’t have an opportunity to see the app ‘at its best’. (£30 a month or £8 for a 1 hour ‘boost’ is also way too expensive).
Also noticed that communication within the app seemingly gets buggy whenever you talk about having conversations outside of the app. Messages don’t send and I get notifications of a response several hours after the message was sent.
I would use the app if you’re interested in something that isn’t as ‘shallow’ as Tinder, but not right now. I get that the app has to make money and all that, but it’s simply not worth the prices they are asking for and there isn’t enough of a ‘hook’ enticing me pay. Maybe if they allow more use of the app to free users, Hinge will get back to where it used to be.

“Designed to be deleted” they said

First off, the layout is brilliant, I like the features and they do have some helpful tips I guess, but they say it’s designed to be deleted and then limit you to 5 likes a day and if you want more then you have to pay, if you want your profile to be seen you have to pay, and that just makes it almost pointless, i get 35 likes per week, that’s nothing, because it probably takes weeks for all of those people to find your profile and hope that you’re good enough for them to like you back, and it’s not like you’re gonna find the perfect match straight away, it’s possible sure, but for most people it takes quite a bit of trail and error and that can take months of having to date people when you probably don’t often get matched which only makes it take longer so I don’t think it’s designed to be deleted at all unless you’re suggesting I’m gonna delete it because it doesn’t feel worth my time…

This used to be a great app and still can be, but they owners seem to care more about money then customer experience, I mean £30 for the “preferred” membership when it used to be £7 a month😂 and all you get with that is basically unlimited likes whereas on tinder gold you get way more things but for £4.99 a month! also everyday people that I’ve decided not to like will continue to keep coming up everyday so most of the time you’re seing the same people you’ve already said no to. Also, the “roses” are ridiculous priced which puts a certain “type” of girl behind a paywall not that matching with someone with only good looks bothers me but for people that’s what they are looking for and you’re going to have to pay a lot to find them😂 but all in all the app still has potential if they stop being greedy put the customers first and sort all the problems out.

These apps are all the same. This’ll be a superficial review as this type of apps force superficiality, so bare in mind everyone bases their swipes on 90% looks, no getting around it really.
As a male, with a free account, the first 10 likes you get entice you as they show you nothing but absolute stunners, then once they’ve locked on to what you like through your first day, they adjust to show you everything you DON’T want. I was getting gay men despite saying i was looking for women, people so incompatible they’d probably rather die than actually talk, and the standard of beauty - in my tastes - went from about 8/10+ on the first day to nothing but 5s and below for the rest. It’s a joke, it begs you to pay for boosts and upgrades and it’s actually worse than tinder and bumble because it actually claims to be different. Awful.
Serious gaps in the market for a fair, non-misleading dating app that does something to actually find matches, without having to pay. I’d rather a fair app with an advert every other swipe than have to pay a monthly subscription plus purchases to see one girl I like and could get on with.

Worse than Plenty of Fish !!!

I have downloaded the app 3 times and I do not think I will download the app again. The algorithm does not make any sense. I am convinced that the “likes” I give out not seen by some of the guys because it’s not a coincidence that the unattractive men want to always pair up with me.
No offence but the guys who like me are not my type and they cannot hold a standard conversation. The stand out section needs to be removed because it’s pointless only having 1 rose for 7/8/9 of them, for 1 whole week. When you 1st sign up you are shown a plethora of attractive men, then after the 1st hour you are shown unconventional looking men for most of the time. No matter how much you swipe, your abundance of men that you usually like rarely comes as the days go by. Plus when you decline a guys “like”.....he still shows up on your feed. If you decline someone, you should not be able to see them on your feed again, it just makes things awkward; again it’s not a coincidence. Another thing is that why is the app only give out 8 “likes” per day - no wonder it’s designed to be deleted. From reading other reviews, paying for Hinge makes no difference when you are using the free version.

I’ve always enjoyed hinge but have steadily noticed how greedy and unethical they are. Standouts is the last straw; the idea of separating people you are most likely to want and charging you to like them individually is terrible!!
Not to mention those poor people joining Hinge to find love, only to get separated so the company can profit from their looks! Now they’ll only be matched by those willing to fork out, damaging their chances... everyone joining should have the same options/chances despite their attractiveness. Hinge you’ve dropped the ball here and shown the companies true colours.
I previously recommended this app, I can’t now 👎🏾

Awful

I was hoping that this would be a fresh new way to date, but the algorithms are so ridiculously rigged/broken that it’s laughable. When you first open the app you are shown several profiles of ultra-attractive people. You know, the kinds of people who have thousands of likes a day. Thereafter - and this is no exaggeration - you are EXCLUSIVELY shown profiles who (to put it politely) are very rarely liked. Seriously, it’s to the point that you know it’s deliberate. As much as I believe there is somebody for everyone, this app has not been able to discern my type based on who I like and dislike. Every single profile is exactly the opposite of my type and people whom I personally find unattractive. And it periodically shows you bouts of profiles of a very specific type - I.e different ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ people etc. While I 100% support this kind of inclusivity, the fact that it ONLY shows you these groups for a period of time tells me that the algorithm is rigged. This app is designed to be deleted alright.

The dating app that sabotages you!

Firstly, to unlock the features ie. To be able to like/message people you need to pay a subscription fee (don’t do this!!! It won’t enable you to contact the people you are attracted to... keep reading). Then the algorithm in the app determines who you’re most likely to fancy, your “type” and deliberately removes those people from the feed of singles you can see and contact! All the people you’re most likely to fancy are then kept in the “standouts” section where you can only contact them if you buy “roses” for an extra £3.99 each. You can’t see these people anywhere else in the app and they’re only kept in the standouts section for a few days. So, there’s no point subscribing! If you want to message people just buy the roses.
But even better - use a different app that doesn’t find out who you’ll fancy and then keep them from you unless you pay an extra fee!

Horrible

Hinge no matches, then banned?
I registered on the app last year, but practically never used it, because from the get go I never got any likes. Keeping in mind that I am a female in my twenties so I thought I’m bound to receive some likes and match with someone. So I left it at that.
A couple of months ago, I started using dating apps again and went back on hinge. Kept sending likes but got none myself. So I decided to contact Hinge support, because at this point I was curious as to what was happening with my account. They responded by saying that my mobile number/carrier or IP address was blocked by their servers. I travel a lot, but I never change my SIM card. They suggested that I delete my old account and create a new one with a different number, so I did that. Again, no likes, no matches. I contact the support for the second time and they respond by saying that my account has violated their terms blah blah and it has been banned.
Now I don’t understand how have I violated any terms if I never got to speak to anyone nor any of my photos or prompts were offensive. I doubt that my account even showed up to people. My phone number and IP address work perfectly with any other apps, not just dating ones. So I don’t understand what was the issue.
Needless to say, I will not be using the nightmare app again.

Fun idea but ultimately the same as the others

The layout is fun and clean and at first having to respond to little snippets on people’s profiles seems great but ultimately this still does not lead to people having better conversations or even replying to your comment in any thoughtful way. Same problems as every other dating site (not entirely the app or developers fault, just people being people). I will say that because the profiles are so simple to fill out and use there are tons more people with complete profiles and actual photos! Which is a big thing on these apps.
I will say that the limited number of swipes a day is off putting, you have your 10 or so swipes and then you put it down not to be looked at again, the number is too small for people to be engaged for long as they see no point. By all means reduce the number of swipes a day so people are more frugal with who they swipe yes on but 10 a day is simply not enough, especially from what I can see there are very few people active on the app.

Don’t subscribe!

When you sign up it entices you with a number of model looking women, the minute you close the app & open up again the calibre of women totally change without trying to come across wrong. But even the promise of getting matches when paying I had no success, while still swiping left because of the lack of attraction! I’m not picky but showing me BBW women next after next shows that something is totally wrong with your app with the lack of balance. I’m a black man my preference is all but to only show me black women & BBW is not a coincidence. I’m athletic build & prefer to date someone based on that yet you don’t have that as a preference which is ridiculous. I have been ripped off & after complaining via email with laughable reply. I’ve had to leave a bad review! I have a theory that you judging people’s looks & putting them & others separately. This is for sure. Shame on you. Unsubscribed 💋

Used Tinder and Bumble previously, Tinder just seemed made for ego boosting and Bumble was too quiet. Hinge, however, I’ve had multiple great conversations on there and am now in the greatest relationship of my life after hinge recommended a girl to me at midnight and I decided “who needs sleep, I’ll check her out”. Next thing I know, we are meeting and 3 months down the line in love and still going strong! Hinge limits the amount of likes you can give a day, which at first is annoying but then you realise that, that is its secret to success. It forces you to stop liking and start talking. Never thought a dating app would work but here I am, app deleted and genuinely proud that I used hinge to find my girl.
Also recommended it to my mates and 2 others have had success on it too!! Thanks for the help Hinge!

Thank you Hinge

Thank you hinge, I had no hopes of having a relationship too soon I had 2 apps of dating & relationship on my phone then I installed hinge and I’m glad it took a while to meet someone nice that is my now boyfriend, we have lots in common , won’t lie that I wasn’t expecting and I just had the app on my phone but I wasn’t using it anymore because I put on my mind has a mom already I would not find someone that would want to have a relationship with me but it was wrong, Thank you , thank you for your help, I know some people are ashamed of saying they started having a conversation with their now partners from dating apps but I’m not this app helped a lot and I couldn’t be happier with my new relationship and I thank god as well for the best man he sent to me . For those who are trying to give up don’t give up someone good will come into your lives, my prayers for you all ❤️ if the wedding happens I won’t forget the creator of this app and he/she needs to be there it’s all because of that person

The app sure is designed to be deleted. I see absolutely no reason to use it in conjunction with any of the other apps that already exist.
At first glance it is great: The app has a nice layout, some good questions and a reasonably original take on how you connect with other people.
But the latter generally does nothing but cause online daters to overthink, which they are already prone to do anyway. Combine that with the fact that you get about 6 free swipes a day and suddenly you will find yourself swiping through swathes of people to find that person you think you could truly connect with... but they don’t exist on the app.
This is not even an exaggeration; in the week I have used the app I have found about four people attractive. And my standards are flexible to a point, I have been on many dates with a wide range of people.
During my time with Hinge I’ve actually taken more peoples details in person than those I have connected with using this app. Not a difficult achievement for anyone even semi confident, because I have connected with no one.
Meanwhile the regular apps; tinder, Pof and bumble have been steadily successful as usual with zero effort on my part.
Now, maybe talking to people in person is challenging for you, I can understand that. But I can tell you now, from my experience, you won’t get anywhere any quicker by using this app.

Really enjoying getting to know great guys through this app. Hinge is a fun, and an easy app to use. Genuine guys, and it is nice to use an app, that is not sexually operated. Love the layout with photos, prompts and little questions, and with Instagram at the bottom of the profile page. Everything is optional of course. This can be changed at anytime. I can put my own answers to update when ever I see fit to. This also helps to show me, someone’s personality, character traits, their humour, mindset, and values, and most importantly how they view their lives. Thank you for creating such a unique dating app, as it’s cleared up stigma from other apps, I had been using, and everyone is talking about how much there enjoying Hinge.

A lovely site ruined by West African scammers/fraudsters hiding behind multiple fake profiles and using fake photos who are trying to steal money from and to mislead and exploit vulnerable women. I am constantly reporting them but they are returning under different guises relentlessly (usually using photos of unsuspecting US citizens/US military/male models). All want you to move chat immediately to What’s App or Hang Out. Most claim to be from Manchester or Liverpool. Then they claim to be working abroad on a peace keeping mission in Africa and then need you to buy them an internet gift card in order to communicate with them online. Please sort this out Hinge as it’s ruining our experience and is becoming a risky and a dangerous place to be. Your security department needs to work harder to keep these men out. I myself have spotted and reported at least 50 to you.

Promising but same problems as all dating apps

This app seems great at first—it stops you from the superficial swiping, asks some questions that can show a bit of personality, and tries to make you consider the person on a more than looks level.
In reality though I have found this just results in less dates. You’re still as superficial as you always were, but now you’re also judging these people on their wittiness in answering dumb questions, their political views, etc. If you don’t pay for the subscription (which I think is just inexcusably overpriced considering you’re paying for an endlessly reproducible algorithm. If it were, say £2 a month, I’m sure they would get a lot more subscribers) then you just end up swiping through everyone in your entire city, so 99% of people with whom you’ve zero in common, and the very odd person you may like—but then that’s before they even might like you back.
I’ll take my £8 and go hit a bar or join a club, where I’ll undoubtedly get more value and treat meeting people less like online groceries.

Genuinely impressed, I thought I had already left a review and was coming back to rewrite it better, I’ve never bothered to rate most apps, this one deserves praise. There’s so much bs and empty promises in these apps, yet this one is great, it works so well, it’s easy and I’m enjoying it. After about three weeks now I’m talking to 10-20 people and going on 3dates this week. Maybe I’m lucky, but I haven’t been ‘lucky’ on other apps.
Please don’t change the premise of the app and please keep the monthly price as is, it is very reasonable.
Also thank you for the random month free upgrade, (they didn’t ask for any card details or anything, it was a genuine freebie), they really have done good!

The app design is great and that’s why it’s such a shame that it’s so buggy, doesn’t work and there’s no way of contacting a real person to enquire about getting it fixed.
For the first few days I would get likes or like other people, match and then talk fine, however after a couple of days I started to get no responses when I was messaging people. At first I thought maybe people just weren’t interested in responding but I’m certain that isn’t the case because I get like after like and then no messages / responses to any messages I’ve sent over the last week or so. My messages must either not be getting through to the other person or they are getting through and the other persons aren’t coming through to me.
I don’t connect to the app via Facebook so maybe that’s why it’s not as functional? I don’t know but please focus on fixing this problem!!!

If dating apps were phones, tinder is a Nokia and hinge is an iPhone. Basically the questions on the app is like a pre date trial, you kind of get the gist of how someone after 3 questions, the way they answer them you kind of understand if they’re going to be you’re kind of person - soooo much more effective than the shortest bios that you get on tinder where people try to think of a funny one liner that doesn’t say anything about them - it means you don’t waste your time talking to people that you otherwise wouldn’t. And you don’t go on the wrong dates for you. Honestly I can’t believe after hinge that tinder was even a thing.

Disappointing

As much as I like the concept behind it the experience of using the app has been rather disappointing. No matter how much effort I make into commenting on other users’ stories or pictures I hardly get any matches. When I eventually do get a match the vast majority of users choose ‘your turn’ which essentially mean that they want me to do all the work - how unmasculine of them! There also seem to be quite a few profiles of couples which I think defeats the purpose of being a ‘relationship app’. Lastly, many profiles aren’t loading correctly (I keep seeing blank boxes in places where pictures should be) which makes it impossible to tell how those users look like. Overall, after a month of using the app I’ve had one semi decent conversation. Suffice it to say that I won’t be using it for much longer.

Dating app with a sense of humour

Alright, admittedly I've only had the app for a few days and not yet been on a date (who needs love, anyway? 🙄), but the layout of the profiles is such that you have to answer three (out of possibly 60, or something) questions, and honestly? Worth downloading just for people's answers. I'm having such a blast giggling at everyone's answers that I'm just scrolling through profiles to have myself a good time totally forgetting the whole point I downloaded it.
Was upgraded to a 30 day free preferred account where you can add in 'deal breakers' like height/age/ethnicity/location restrictions, or just simply highlight preferences so you'll see more of the profiles that match, otherwise you're stuck with scrolling through totally random people near you - can definitely see the benefit to the paid version, but currently speaking to someone I matched with before the preferred account became active, so may never have been needed in the first place. So far so good, and it's nice not having to compress your own complex self into a paragraph or 2 - this is much more like dating before technology got involved!
