Used to be the best now the worst

I have been using this app for years. I watch it day and night on all my devices (2 iPhones and 1 iPad) . Great coverage and content. This great journey ended with a horrible update where they force you to watch incredibly long boring irrelevant advertisement. Why do I need to watch in 15 min news report, 2 identical long boring advertisement. I understand that you may have financial requirements you need to meet but not this way. Reconsider this abrasive advertisement before you lose all the users you created over years.

Ads and clickbait

Too many ads, FAR too many insufferable clickbait “stories”, doesn’t seem to keep up well with breaking stories. Marginally better than BBC news but have deleted it. Will try Google news.

They broke a great app

Used to be easy to search and add feeds before they updated it. Now I cannot find some of my favourite feeds, searching doesn’t return results I’d expect and why display curated feeds showing results from 2 years ago.

Alerts should feed through to the article!

I generally like the app, but the most annoying function is when I click on an article alert and I'm taken to the genetic home page with no sign of the article! If this isn't fixed I could ditch this app!

Retrograde “update”

Whose bright idea was this mess of an app?! It’s so clunky now, bulky and cumbersome to use. Loved the old version because I could scroll down the lovely compact display very quickly, catching headlines from around the world, on a huge range of topics and clicking on the ones I was particularly interested in. I have tried to get used to the change but it’s just not giving me what I’m looking for. It’s like swapping a healthy salad, with loads of different tasty ingredients, for a manky old pizza. The old raw “feed” version just worked, it wasn’t broken and could easily have accommodated extra ads if that’s what you needed to do! Now deleted I’m afraid.

Missing The Wire

Recent changes have been to the detriment of this app for me. The rolling news feed used to be excellent. The app now appears to be going the way of other news apps such as the BBC News - don’t get me started - with an emphasis on video news. Please bring back The Wire!

Often hours-old news, less detail, more blank space and adverts, fewer stories, compartmentalised into meaningless categories. Suggest you scrap this latest version and go back to the previous version.

Disaster!

Ruinous upgrade. Has been my first port of call for news updates, in a precise, wide ranging and up to the minute style. I am not interested in only being fed stories, in a horrible boxy style, which the algo has deemed i’m interested in. I will now dump this dummed down app!

New App is Cr..App

Until this latest update, the App was the best news feed going. The old version of the “The Wire” was spot on and gave an unprecedented oversight of all news at the flick of the scroll button.
The new App fails to even half match the old App. The new design is merely focused around cramming in more unsolicited adverts, it’s just so tacky. The exemplar news feeds are gone and replaced with fragmented and non chronological inserts of different news genre and adverts.
Please bring back the old format.

Worse

I have to agree with GlockShanty. The old version gave us The Wire - that was a fast way of scanning a lot of news items very quickly to see what then to pursue in more detail. Now that’s gone. We have more pictures - but they waste space if you want a quick overview. Why not reinstate The Wire? - but keep it compact, brief, and up-to-the-minute.

What a mess

You have exploded a tightly designed, time sensitive delivery mechanism which was a pleasure to open up. The new redesign is a step back into history, breathtakingly conventional. The old app was unique amongst news outlets in matching content and form. Whoever implemented this change has ruined a great product.

Shame, was excellent before the update now very poor

This app used to be great with a clear concise presentation and loads of content. However, since the update whilst the new design is ok the amount of content has plummeted. The number of news articles has dropped massively. For example as I write the UK news section’s most recent article says posted 18hours ago. The ones before that are all from yesterday. That’s hardly rolling, up to the date news and basically useless as a news app. Not sure why this has been done but I hope they revert to the old content provider because unfortunately this simply does not do what it should do. Shame !

Ruined

The strength of this feed app for me was lots of impartial news fast on wide relevant subjects. Now the app has turned into a convoluted website and is just annoying as the BBC. Why do companies (advertisers) always think bigger/wider adds relevance?

They fixed a problem that didn’t exist

Busy and reading don’t go together. If they thought that that readers where skipping news cos it was too long, then they may as well just be a Twitter feed.
Personally I liked serious news articles that took time to read and digest. Otherwise I would just be a person who just needed headlines and opinions.

It wasn't broken. Shouldn't have tried to fix it

I've used this app as my news source for 6+ years now, right up until just after I finish this review. Then it's getting deleted. It once gave me a comprehensive, scrolling World News timeline that couldn't be beaten by any other app. You got all the world news, updated every few minutes, all day and night. No other app did that. With the new update, the stories are not as frequent, there's less of them, a large number of stories are missing on the new app (I ran the new app on my phone and the old app on my iPad and compared the two - new app has LESS CONTENT). I grudgingly put up with the intrusive large adverts before, but they are even more annoying on the new app. You've ruined what made the app special and turned it into a generic news app. I can go elsewhere for the same news content with no adverts - and I will.

Callous Reporting

There’s something about a news agency’s decision to refer to a single country by lumping it with an entire continent that just strikes me as dismissive and callous. If you’re doing a news report on a specific African country, please name the country! It’s not not a difficult task-replace Africa with the name of the ACTUAL country you are reporting on.
There is, to the best of my knowledge no singular representative identify for Africans so when I read a phrase like ‘The Africans’ I firstly have to decipher which of the 50+ countries you’re referring to and what presumed representative trait you think they must possess that makes it ok to simply state ‘The Africans’.
This might seem trivial, but in this age of toxic journalism (and callous reporting)I had hope you might do better.
If you can’t be bothered to name the country, can we be sure you’ve done proper due diligence in your reporting?

Good but not the best

I like to get my news from multiple sources, so I use this, and two others. The Reuters app works well; no faults there. I like The Wire which gives you a live feed of new stories; I often find out stuff that later gets buried under piles of Trump or Brexit in other media.
Reuters offers a better “world” news than the other biggest name app I use, and it “feels” more less biased than the other two sources.
The “Top News” section which greats you is rather short, and covers about a dozen stories.
I’m not in “business” but that’s what drives our economies, and I like Reuters focus on the business sector.
It’s not as easy to skim through stories as on some apps, but for a combination of a “good” selection and excellent journalism, it’s a really good go-to app.

One of the greats

Always carry’s a great array of international stories, usually with limited bias and one of the last free to use news outlets. Some of the graphics produced are incredible, even comparable to Bloomberg and economist, which are both costly publications. App is reasonably easy to use, and not covered in advertisements. Good all rounder for someone looking to get a nice spectrum of information.

The best news; mediocre app

There's nothing special about this app. It has possibly the most basic functionality an app can have: there's a story; you tap it to read it.
The news, however, is world class unbiased reporting. No puff-pieces, no side-leaning opinions, no speculation, no misleading headlines, no click bait.
Just one thing missing: can I please pay to remove the ads?
