I love it
I’m so glad I deactivated Twitter. It’s never been the same since Elon Musk bought it. He made so many terrible changes. Bluesky is a breath of fresh air. So many if the nicer people have moved across. It’s easy to use and the add lists (starter packs) and block lists are brilliant.

Landscape View in iPad Needed
The app is practically unusable on iPad; like many folks I use them in landscape with a keyboard attached (never in portrait mode), and having a thin strip of column down the middle is simply absurd. It needs to be much wider, with larger text. To make things worse, there’s a bug that widens a vertically narrow piece of screen at random, but that is unstable and the thing has to be restarted, so I have to scroll down to where I was again. Otherwise okay.

Way better than Twitter on a functional level
Is it bad I feel calm using this app compared to anytime I open Twitter?
Blue sky has issues but functionally it’s better than Twitter for these sole reasons: it’s block button works, I can FULLY customise my own algorithm to see the stuff I only want to see (and I can create more than just one, which is so cool), customisation and UI is better on blue sky it’s faster and cleaner and you can create your own domain names to have as your @, which is not only a great way to do verification but a really cool way of getting extra creative with your profile, especially for a nerd like me, its privacy policy’s are MUCH better than Twitter (this is a HUGE thing many people should realise), my posts and data aren’t being used to train AI without my consent, and just generally this app is much more “adult like” compared to X/Twitter.
Only complaints are that I wish there was a bookmark/save post function and that video Bitrate would be better everything else is just a case of time really.

Bluer skies, Greener pastures
We all know that saying, “Bluer skies, greener pastures”, that is what it’s like to use Bluesky. A site that actually feels good to use and a breath of fresh air. Before finding this site I used Twitter, I posted my art and argued with people, when my account got suspended (because I changed by birth day) I started looking for a new site, that’s when I found Bsky, at first I didn’t like it, it felt too slow, but once I get my account back I left Bsky and went back to Twitter, but my account got suspended again for “violent threats” (I said if a character in a video game came back “I’d kill her”) then I tried Bsky again, long story short, I went back to Twitter on a new account and it felt horrendous to use, trying to use that site and be happy is like trying to win a match of chess against a pigeon, so recently I have deleted Twitter and fully moved to Bluesky, and it feels great. There are a few things I can see that is different between Bsky and its competitors, the main thing is the pacing, Twitter is fast paced and is extremely addictive to use, but Bluesky is the opposite, Bsky is very slow paced and at first it feels like a bad thing but now that I am used to it, It feels better than the fast paced sites like Twitter, I finally have time to improve my art and do other things outside of social media. The community is amazing, and how they deal with horrible people is even more so, “block and move on” is the Bluesky way, and it feels great, not only does it starve the people that want to ruin everyone’s time out of the site it also feels good to do. I have had only one person comment on my art in a horrible way but I blocked them, hid their comment and moved on, it was great. The mass block function also helps with starving the problems out of the site, stop them from even finding your account lmao, of course some slip through the cracks but you can block them yourself. So to summarise what I’m trying to say! Bluesky is imo the best social media platform available, it allows you to breathe in a horrible world, it feels more like a home than anywhere else has and I am grateful to be on this platform.

Social Media is fun again!
Wow. Having tried Mastadon, decentralised social media seemed like a non-starter but Bluesky has proven that wrong.
Feels like this is how Twitter could have ended up if taken in the right direction. Easy to use, lots of controls and options and some game changing features such as the ability to follow and block lists in bulk. This means you’ve got control over your experience from the get go.

The best social OF ALL TIME.
I have genuinely not been this excited to use a social media app since MYSPACE. Bluesky is a breath of fresh air in a world full of negativity.
I could go on for hours about the features and it has plenty to discover but honestly the number one best thing about it? Community; It’s wholesome, everyone’s lifting each other up.

It has potential, feels very safe, needs full screen
As an ex X user I find this app akin to being trapped in a small space and feeling somewhat claustrophobic as it is not configured for use with an IPad or tablet so the display is tiny which makes for laborious scrolling. Otherwise, it appears to offer exactly what it says on the box, looks promising with a nice selection of categories to get started … a full screen version would add so much more I do hope the devs will consider this for a future upgrade

Liberal woke rubbish. The first thing you’re greeted with when you go on the website or app is leftist propaganda, and it seems that’s all that’s allowed on the site, which is a great start. Got an email the next day saying my account was banned for hate speech, when all I commented was Trump 2024 under people’s posts. Reality check: there’s a difference between hate speech and speech that you hate. I’ll stick to X.

Terrible UI/ holds no purpose beyond protest.
The UI is clunky and trashy. Also… Banning people for free speech is a bit crazy; this platform has proven already to have no issues doing that. Also… It’s very clear this was made in protest of what people deem as ‘far right’. I would have liked to see people respect free speech and combat anything they don’t like to hear, with things they do; not just flock to their own echo chamber! Very sad. “Safe spaces” like these are ironically very unsafe for free speech. My advice? Don’t let your (or their) toxicity fester.

Leaps and bounds better than Twitter, but missing some features
Bluesky is what twitter before ~2021 felt like. You have absolute control over your feed and can remove anything you don’t want to see nigh instantly, the ability to subscribe to different feeds for specific topics is also very welcome.
The community is much more positive and decentralised, it genuinely feels like people are there to have a good time, not constantly discuss politics, spew hate speech and go on and on about whatever musk is doing at the moment.
I do wish Bluesky adopted features such as a way to save or bookmark posts, support embeds for videos and photos on 3rd party apps such as Discord, as well as better tablet support.
I love this app and finally moving to it for good was a decision I do not regret.

Needs Tablet Optimisation
The platform itself is an amazing alternative to X (formerly known as Twitter) especially for artists and other visual arts enthusiasts. My only issue is that it needs to be optimised for tablets in addition to mobile phones, especially for artists who use tablets for their art.

Such a relief to find a great space on social media where you’re not plagued by bots, cranks, nastiness and so many awful views. The key will be in the upkeep in moderation as it grows but the impressions are really good atm.
The iPhone interface is lovely and simple to use. Makes things straightforward with great functionality with the user defined feeds.

The best alternative
Easy to use, nice UI and love the use of feeds. It’s lacking a few basic features like saved posts, drafts and being able to add a link to your profile but I’m sure they’ll come with time. Would like to see a better search function and maybe some trending topics but all in all, a great app and enough to deactivate the *other* app and start again

Twitter Two: Electric Boogaloo
Should be pretty obvious within minutes that this is meant to be an alternative to Twitter. There’s no real algorithm so it relies on you finding feeds and hashtags you want to see more of. There’s great moderation tools to tailor stuff to you, the lack of ads, algorithm manipulation and Muskies is all I needed to dive head first into it.

Disappointing
This needs so much work. It’s so unclear how it works and there’s nothing to really explain it. They also take so long to send you the confirmation email that it expires before you’re able to put it in. You aren’t able to continue to post until you’ve confirmed your email therefore you are never able to post on the app. It’s also not clear how to delete your account, which violates GDPR. I won’t be using this anymore.

I have found my new place
When the other site got from bad to worse I looked for an alternative, and this app is it. It’s being actively improved by responsive devs who understand what features its users want. It’s still missing some of the people I used to follow elsewhere, but I’ve noticed they are jumping onboard too, so it’s only a matter of time. There’s also a very effective block system which pretty much tackles the issue of trolls and scammers (better than the other one ever had).
Update: the devs keep adding functionality very quickly.

My only gripes at the moment are:
- the lack of iPad app
- and more importantly that the feed/timeline jumps to the most recent post when refreshed. When I refresh the timeline I want to continue from where I left off. At the moment I have to scroll back down to where I was.

Great content - technically needs more work
This is a great app as an alternative to Twitter, otherwise known as X with better quality content, with the desktop version on a web browser working really well, but the app for iPhone and ipad makes for a very difficult user experience, not the best.

The true successor to Twitter. A user-centric, decentralised social platform that is designed to be easy for the average person (no instance decision like on Mastodon), without sacrifices and with the ability to own your own data if you're so inclined.
Bluesky has not only offered a social media site that feels like it's people-owned but also provided ATProtocol, one of the most exciting platforms to build on that I've seen in recent memory. ATProto isn't just for Bluesky, it's going to be the catalyst for a lot going into the future.
Bluesky feels like it learned from the flaws of Twitter and Threads and truly tried to make something refreshing, a refreshingly human community with a priority towards making social media what you want, instead of to line the pockets of venture capitalists.

Vibe is nice, UI for tablet could be better
Please please please change the tablet / iPad UI to full screen / landscape - ‘portrait mode for phone’ on the iPad isn’t a great experience. I can barely see anything as I’m scrolling.
So far populated by pleasant folks & have a couple of great features that allows for the mass blocking of those I don’t want to have popping up on my feed!
Hoping the mass migration from the bird app encourages the developers to make🦋more user friendly 👍🏼

Almost perfect
It’s a really decent alternative to Twitter (after that loser Elon Musk ruined it) It’s peaceful and nice to scroll through. Only issue is that the Discover tab is bad, mainly because I get posts that have nothing to do with what I like and even when I choose to “Show less like this” I still get similar posts, hence why I just stick to the Following tab. Hope the algorithm gets tweaked to improve the Discover tab 👍

A review
Honestly a really fun take on the social media spectrum! Reminds me of the classic Twitter days where it wasn’t filled with ads, bots or useless tabs. It looks very simple and to be fair, is simple! My only ask is that we receive a feature to help us send posts to multiple friends at once, allow emojis to be added to messages and a quicker way to block. I’m still giving this app a 10/10, the algorithm is awesome for what I’m looking for.

The only viable successor to original Twitter
Threads may have captured popularity thanks to being a Meta platform, but it is fundamentally restricted by Meta policies. This is where Bluesky steps in. It is functionally superior to Twitter and Threads, but desperately needs more users. As of this review it’s at 14 million and rising, but still far off tipping point where X and Threads users feel like they can unpack and settle in. My advise would be just get your account and follow some people.

Had it for a while and constantly being followed by spurious accounts that then send you the Dm pleading poverty or saying they were from war torn countries and please dear friend send me some money , the algo does not pick up on yr likes very well I never said I was into art but was bombarded with Anime feeds and art involving this kind of thing the last thing is depending on your political status it’s a bit of a oooh we all hate Trump echo chamber so it’s a bit like twatter but the opposite.. when I reached out they said well yr not following enough accounts for the algo to recognise yr taste but what’s the point in following 100s of accs that I don’t really have an interest in ..

Since threads flopped I was begrudgingly using it to support my favourite artists but not since Twitter has now decided that giving us no option to opt out of having our data used to train AI I have now decided that it’s just not worth it anymore.

Not perfect, but better than the alternatives
Bluesky is what Twitter wishes it was, with an algorithm that actually shows you content you'll like as well as your friends' posts and customisable feeds. That being said the ability to bookmark and edit posts would greatly improve the overall experience.

Almost unusable on iPad
It’s not just that it’s simply the phone app rehashed which doesn’t take into account the larger screen, but it also very buggy. It inconsistently switches to a zoomed-in view or jumps between landscape and portrait mode regardless of which round you’re holding the iPad.

I have been on so many social media platforms in my life and can probably say all of them at some point. This is one of the best currently available for open and friendly engagement. It feels safe and friendly. Far better than what is happening in some of the other social media platforms at the moment.

Fresh air with familiar feels
I honestly love this app! Moved from ‘x’ because it was just full of hate. I was a bit skeptical because for a social media app it wasn’t very well reviewed. Happy to say that I was extremely pleased and surprised when I actually got on it!
It’s very user friendly, a nice clean layout and has the ability to create feeds of your favourite things.
I’m now moving completely over from x and saying goodbye to it. The atmosphere and people on this app are wayyy nicer than it ever was on x!

Seems great to me. What Twitter could have been had it not been ‘X’d
Deleted my Twitter (‘X’) account last week due to Musk abusing his power and influence and migrated here. So far, so good. I’ve noticed improvements to the platform in the space of just one week. Fresh, simple, uncluttered by ads and other unwanted intrusions.
The more people sign up, the bigger and better this will get, and ‘X’ can become an irrelevancy.

Better than X-crement but that’s a low bar
No iPad compatible app is a let down and right now there’s not much to see here. It may grow and develop in time so I’ll hang on to the account and see where it goes. Possibly touch base once or twice a month.
UPDATE - since the iPadOS 14.4.1 update, the BlueSky app force closes before it fully loads. All my other apps work fine. Possibly a function of an iOS app trying to work on an iPad.

Screen rotate and feed start point
Early days I know but a couple of improvement suggestions. 1) On iPad, the portrait/landscape selection doesn’t work. Whatever rotation the app starts up in, that’s it. 2) I’d like my feed to continue from where I last left off rather than the most recent post.

Replacement for Twitter!
It’s a young app, but they’re releasing regularly and you can see the improvements taking place.
I hope this grows in popularity because I’m tired of seeing unexpected bad things on X with its lack of moderation and wild algorithms.

Just signed up
User experience not great for sign up. I was presented with suggested blue sky account to follow and so I scrolled through a long list and removed the ticks of those I wasn’t interested in. I then looked for a NEXT button but at the bottom I found only see FOLLOW ALL or SKIP. I don’t want to do either. So at the top I notice a back chevron which I selected but then was on screen before with only option to CONTINUE. So I lost all the unticks I made.

Great promise but nearly unreadable on iPad Pro
Love this app so far, and it shows great promise. However, it’s nearly impossible to use on an iPad Pro screen - it’s just tiny in the middle with huge margins. Images are especially difficult to view. If this downside is corrected, it will be an absolute gamechanger!

Works now
Well after finally getting this to work I wonder what it was all about. If you’re not on there, let me explain, first there was twitter, not perfect but now gone to the dogs thanks to elmo, that led to Mastodon’s popularity which has a fraction of the people from twitter, Bluesky in turn is a bit like Mastodon with even less people. Useful social media has split into fractions (as well as factions) and is a truly sad state of affairs.

Portrait only
This app seems to rely on phones using it. Phone Portrait on iPad is not my idea of 'developed' for anything but phones. Hard work to use. I'm not sure what the developers were thinking, apart from race to compete with X. Invite only means you have to 'be invited' = unhealthy cliques, obligations to the host inviting a person, I'm still on that list, but someone invited me. As if this alternative to X is full on ready.. It is too difficult to search for other interesting people because you only see a couple of inches, and are forever trying to expand. As far as competing with X...I'm still waiting for full screen. Complete the app. Compete well.
Seems we are in a world where bragging about what is incomplete, hooking people, as if complete, and having a laugh because incomplete.

Please make an iPad version
This app has so much potential. It's everything That Other Platform used to be but better. If it had a better iPad experience I would use nothing else. But the iPhone app on iPad at the moment is really disappointing. Come on... SwiftUI makes this sort of thing easy!

I can’t comment on the actual app because although I have it I can’t use it. I don’t have one of these elitist codes. I’m on the waiting list but I see from people who have reviewed here that some have been waiting months. It doesn’t seem quite right that codes are being dished out right left and center to people who are already on the platform. Perhaps don’t give out so many and get some people off the waiting list.

Wonderful
This is such a lovely social platform, allowing you to follow and interact with people you choose to. It’s like the early days of other social platforms and a safe space.
There’s some functionality missing, like hide reposts from other accounts, a bit more curation to the feed ultimately.
However, it doesn’t detract from the overall experience.

The decentralized future of social media
It’s early day but it is already clear that this is the future. There have been lots of attempts to create a decentralized social media protocol before but this is the first one that is really easy to use. It is a decentralized app that is as easy to use as a centralized app. The ability to add user-created algorithms is huge. Account portability while not implemented yet will also be incredibly easy so if you don’t like the restrictions placed on you by your current provider you can easily move to another provider or self-host your own server while bringing your data and social graph with you. That is a game changer, and why it will succeed where mastodon failed. Finally users will be in charge of their own data.

Future Twitter Replacement
I’ve been using BlueSky for around 6 weeks and it’s remarkable how fast it’s being built and improving as features get added. Community is very active and fun. It is closed beta at time of writing so lots more yet to be added but so far this has the most potential to take over from Twitter as the goto text-based microblogging social media, however, with a built in open source ethos to help prevent the same self-destructive fate occurring again.

A future for social platforms
The team at Bluesky appear to be doing great things for the future of social platforms. I’ve been fortunate to be part of the Bluesky private beta and it’s been a good experience so far. Feels good to help test a production version of a new social platform protocol. And one that isn’t bound to a MegaCorp. Let’s see how things evolve. I’m excited for it!
