Crashes after 5-10mins

I have it on iPad 9th gen and iPhone 14. On both devices it works initially, but after 5-10mins the screen shrinks and bounces around like an old screen saver. Nothing i do stops this. I have to close app and reload. Then it happens again. Totally unplayable.

Excellent and Satisfying Port, and BUGs

Don’t need to praise again since pretty much everyone are praising. It’s great, brilliant. But there are tons of BUGs. The worst one is the screen suddenly starts to zoom in and out with large black frame around. Unsolvable, if this occurs the only option I currently have is to restart the game. Also, Its good that Feral tries to develop better mouse control than MTW, but mouse is so BUGGED, especially on campaign map. Feels like the value of double-clicking recognition is wrong, the game just don’t know when I’m double-clicking and when I’m not. And sometimes the mouse stops responding in the map (while still functional at the bottom column where you can select troops etc), it usually comes with the zooming bug. I have a Sweden save ruined because there is a fight I have to go manual yet every time the mouse bugs halfway. PLZ FIX THIS. It’s a great game even with these terrible BUGs, but it would be greater without them.

Great game but has a frustrating bug

Love the game and really hope Feral can fix the issues. Randomly, more often than not recently, the game will start bouncing from a small to tiny screen and then start to move randomly round the screen.

I really enjoy the Empire total war game but their a bug where the screen shrinks then shrinks and expands then crashes the games so can you please fix it because I hate having to reset my game or redo battles again, it’s really frustrating.

Great game

It’s a great port from pc, and it keeps all the same features with even some better ones. The graphics are what you would expect with a mobile device, but still are nice to look at. I’ve been addicted to this game ever since I bought it. Would recommend!

Good but BUGGY!

Brilliant port to iPad, the game is just as I remember it on pc but for the bugs.

1. The game has crashed mid battles (land & sea) and on the campaign maps.

2. Has a tendency to freeze.

3. Messages repeating in the info tap at the start of turns.

4. After completing actions with holy characters, rakes and armies/navies successful or not, the info tap keeps popping open its self.

5. If a full stack is in a city and you are building another full stack army from said city, roughly after 15 units it will glitch inside city on campaign map making it unusable. Only way to fix it I have found is to disband that army remove the full stack from city and build new army inside the city itself.

This is but a sample of bugs in the game. If you have the patience to deal with this right now you will enjoy the game, if not then I’d suggest waiting for bug fixes before getting the game.

Well done Feral Active! You’ve done a brilliant job of porting Empire onto Mobile/Tablet! The campaign and battles are brilliantly smooth and enjoyable. Im mostly amazed by how little bugs I’ve encountered. Fully recommend Empire for any total war fan or anyone new looking for a one of the best strategy series there is. I cant put it down! 👏🏽👏🏽

Let’s down by bugs

Great game however bugs don’t let me load my saved game. Release an update already! fix the bugs. Game actually unplayable because can’t load game it crashes. For £13 it’s shouldn’t be that bad. Waste of time. Inconvenient and yes I’ve sent crash reports etc

Cry out !

Great game but really disappointed that they simplified the campaign mechanics. Building management, resource management, diplomacy, trade, army management - all these features have suffered to make the game compatible with mobile devices 😢. Surprising that Medieval TW had better campaign complexity. Really hope this gets improved in the future with updates 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Bugs and poor interface

Wow, I so wanted to love this game as much as the PC version….

But too many bugs, especially in the best part of the games, which is the battles. Too often your artillery just won’t fire. Or your entire line of infantry turns around and walks away after you accidentally touch the screen in the wrong place. Battle after battle, I have to quit and restart as half my forces attempt to walk across the battle despite me desperately trying to halt their movements.

This App is way overpriced for such a comprised game. Empire is one of my favourites games so disappointed in this product.

Could be so good…

The game is broken. The AI is dreadful and it ruins the game. Other nations are unpredictable to the point that you can be allies and then enemies in a single turn and then allies again if you offer sweeteners. The auto results on naval and land battles are dreadful which means you have to fight every single battle and it becomes so tiresome. I wish they would update the AI as its the same as the PC version which was also flawed.

Massive Thank You

I wanted to write review to thank the developers so deeply for producing these games for IOS. I loved them as a kid but don’t really have much time for laptop gaming now. Being able to play them on my mobile device is just incredible. I also want to thank them for staying true to the game and not betraying the fans (see age of empires… 🤢) and not creating some micro transaction soulless game under the same name. It’s amazing to be able to play this classic game that I loved so much again. Thank you!

They actually did it…

Ever since Medieval II came to iOS, I’ve been hoping that Empire would follow, but it is such an ambitious game (encompassing warfare, politics, trade and economics, research and technology) I didn’t honestly believe it would happen. But Feral have shown once again that they are masters at converting PC classics to mobile - all the detail from the original seems to be present and correct, and accessible through an elegant and user-friendly mobile interface. They have also implemented a number nice changes including an improved research system, streamlined replenishment, and a handy positioning box for placing units on the battle map - this is definitely my favourite way to play (I’m on a 12.9 inch iPad pro 2nd gen). This is a big game - a single playthrough can take tens of hours, multiply that by eleven playable nations and lots of potential strategies and its easy to rack up a lot of hours in this game (all for about the same price as many ‘free’ games charge for a bag of coins/gems/gold/other virtual nonsense). So, to sum up: epic strategy, excellent conversion, bargain price.

Amazing adaption + BUGS

I’ve encountered a couple of bugs, language issues around religious unrest (for example, playing as Catholic Austria) when I’ve captured a Muslim region, the game will tell me “religious unrest, send an Imam in to […]” where it should be Priest. Also, sometimes when my turn starts it will just skip turn for me, usually this is if there’s a lot going on or the game briefly freezes whilst I’m trying to tap on something- especially when message pop ups cover my screen at the beginning of a turn, I will click the checkmark on the note, but it will register as me pressing the skip turn button beneath it; this isn’t a huge issue because I can load the auto-save from the start of that turn.

The actual game is amazing, I think I’m enjoying it more than the PC version I played years ago. It looks better on iPad than I even remember the PC version looking. Honestly, if you have ever played or enjoyed any total war, or if you think this game might be for you, trust me, it is.

Edit: I have had to delete because I spent so much time on this I started having issues with sleeping and doing my school assignments. Great nostalgia trip, install at your own risk. One final thing I’d like to add, it doesn’t “feel” like just some lazy port, it’s like a new game which I’m eerily familiar with, though I have memories of playing it, the experience was incredible. Looking forward to reinstalling when I’m not as busy.

Brilliant adaptation, hope they add more nations

TW Empire is a brilliant game and they’ve done a great job of porting it. They’ve cleared out some of the bugs in the AI for the original game, made diplomacy a bit less opaque and generally made a game with lots of elements very playable on a tablet. I just hope they bring out an expansion that lets you play as some of the smaller nations (like some of the original mods of the game did) to keep the challenge fresh.

Great classic

I like it, but it needs some bugs fixed for sure. Stationing men against field walls, wall cannons ..etc is really hard… the walls are a hit or miss if it will connect and do the position. The controls when I drag out my units keep jumping and putting them in places I don’t want. Also the unit card won’t go in order.. so the tiles are a mess all the time, making it hard to select. Also, a few buttons extra for select all infantry/cav/art would make playing so much smoother. But aside from all this… it amazing and always is. I pray attila total war makes it to phone 🙏🏻

The pc game was a masterpiece, this doesn’t just port well . The view and control is a shallow substitute for the pc game. Tried to refund but Apple being unfair wouldn’t let me. The game has crashed 50% of the time I have tried to play.

Good port of a problematic game

This is a (broadly) good port of a game that has many many problems. The AI is terrible, which is exactly how the original game was. The AI will often brainlessly march troops directly into yours with NO tactical skill, making battles a matter of cheesing more than strategy. Upping the difficulty just fiddles the morale. Also, fort battles become a cluster of overlapping models with very poor in-game physics. On the campaign map, the AI is liable to declare war for absolutely no reason to the point it really is just random, which takes much of the fun out of the game. Somehow the AI is considerably worse than in earlier total war titles, such as Medieval 2. The port has been attempted valiantly but it doesn’t quite hit the mark. Some good efforts have been made to make the game suitable to tablet but these need some work. For example, the button to dismiss a notification at the start of a new turn overlaps the “end turn” button, so you’re likely to dismiss a message and accidentally end turn with a single tap. Also, whilst many features were added, several were needlessly removed, such as the ability to toggle the floating flags in battles which are an eye-sore. If Feral are reading this, PLEASE provide a means to remove the annoying floating flags in battles. Ultimately, it was a good attempt to make a highly flawed game IOS compatible, but it has ultimate ply proven to be a disappointing purchase.

Empire is back…

Well it’s finally arrived and is slightly improved feature including all the DLC units of the original in the game confirmed. I personally love it am used to the controls after playing medieval 2 and Rome on mobile. It’s worth the money I am a huge total war fan of the older games not the newer ones. I play on hard mode battles and campaign will try very hard to see how the AI do but they still have the old stack after stack armies but all with good fun to fight. In all am happy with the price and can see hours of fun to come .

Immersive and detailed

I’ve got nearly 3000 hours on the original desktop version of this game. Covering 17th century warfare it brings America and India into the theatre of war with Europe allowing for true global conflict. The desktop game was buggy and struggled at release but this mobile version takes the best parts of a full and detailed experience and distils them into a brilliantly usable format.

Controls are easy to master and there is a real depth to the experience that is easy to access.

If you’re a fan of the desktop total war games - this is a must buy.

Good but not for mobile / tablet

It is a good game but it’s really not built for mobile or tablet. You can’t really utilise the battles. If you like the game I suggest playing on PC, you really don’t get the same experience on the app.

Don’t expect more historical titles like this tho - CA haven’t released a historical title like this for a long time. It’s all character focused now rather than era focused 😔
