Simply Amazing (from Sony 74 User)
Simply amazing. For me this app brings the fun and usability to using Apple log footage without all the complexity of other apps and workflows. I’m a keen amateur videographer for many years now and have owned and used excellent video DSLR cameras like the Sony A74, A73, Panasonic GH5 etc. Finally I’m getting the type of 4K results I was hoping for out of Apple log footage since I bought my iPhone 15 pro max in Sept 23. I find it such a mixed bag when trying to select, but and apply LUTS from third-party LUT makers using random camera apps and the end video (for me at least) never looks as good as it should and I found the workflow too complex making me not want to use Apple log much. Also, I don’t like having to use third-party video editing software on my Apple Mac to apply and edit LUTS when editing log on my Mac. With the Kino app, I simply use some of the awesome preset LUTS and one of the best things for me is that the 4K footage is working fine with Apple iMovie, so I don’t have to use some of the more complicated third party movie editing software on my Mac. I can use the same workflow as when editing my Sony A74 video in iMovie, which is enough for me as I don’t like the sheer complexity of some of the other video editing software. I now can’t imagine using another app for Apple log footage and this is so good that I’m much more likely to leave my Sony A74 at home these days and at a pinch I could just about for the first time ever just bring my iPhone 15 pro Max loaded with Kino on holiday and would feel fine about that and that I’m not missing out too much leaving my Sony behind. I also love the way that the exposure glows green when at the correct shutter angle or equivalent. I use a Neewer variable ND for iPhone with a screw on clamp (from Amazon) and simply spin the variable ND until it flashes green and hey presto, cinematic motion blur. The auto focus is awesome too. The main thing I would ask for from the developers (who deserve a big pat on the back) is to be able to turn down the audio gain for windy days.
