App is not user friendly, navigation is confusing and trying to book classes and get a confirmation is a joke. Customer service today was nothing short of condescending. You need to up your game, David Lloyd is so much better.

Worst swim app EVER

I’ll start by saying I work in IT and know how to use apps and I understand security…. All I want to do is monitor my children’s swimming lesson progress. I have never been so angry when trying to log into something. This is literally the worst app… and I am forced to use it!! Whoever made it so you have to log into the HomePortal EVERY SINGLE TIME needs to consider their career choice and think of changing to something they are not useless at.

So many issues with app. Usually very slow to respond. When making a payment sometimes asks for CVC sometimes doesn’t. Often page freezes totally so never know whether payment taken or not - have to open emails to see if confirmation email has arrived - if has can go back to frozen screen and log out. Even when logged in it is impossible to explore membership options as asked to log in again but it doesn’t recognise the ID and/or password even though same as logged in before. Maddening app

Probably the worst app I have and can’t avoid it for swimming lessons. Doesn’t stay logged in, can’t use with finger ID, even keeping it open it shuts down. Have to stand at the gates to the centre to log in scan in. Painful. Staff at centres are fed up of us moaning how bad it is.

Changing rooms

The floor leading to the pools is always soaking wet and very slippery. The life guards make no effort to brush away the water. The water in the main pool is on the cold side of comfortable. The toilets are clear and odour free.

Good app for bookings in advance

This is a simple and easy to use app for bookings in advance of visits. I only use the Centre for swimming so it limits my review.
It would be helpful if the Just Swim and Lane Swimming filter button could be combined so you see all the main public swim sessions in one view.
Also, it’s frustrating that as soon as a session starts it disappears, could the filtering be based on the end time of the session? Some swim sessions are up to 2 hours long and they disappear from booking which limits visibility.

Poor Communication

What is the County ?

When making a payment and filling out address details, a user is asked to supply County. That may be relevant for some parts of the world, but on the whole for the UK a postal code is enough. And County is a mandatory field ?! This is so not relevant. For example: what County London is in ?

Circle of confusion

Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t understand why I can see my account details, payments etc but not my course bookings. I had an email confirming a course booking but the app says I have no bookings and I can’t sign into the course hub. Is that a separate account? Pilates in a raincoat

Excellent class but studio 2 was like stepping into a freezer. It did not warm up enough to take my raincoat off so I had to do the class in a full length coat. Class was at 13.30 4/8 - the room could have been checked that morning

Worst app on the planet

Slow, times out randomly, this morning it’s taken me 15 minutes to book a lane swim as it constantly hangs then times out when I press the book button. None of the buttons have any indicate you’ve pressed them like an animation, so as a user you don’t know if the app has recognised what you’ve done. Just terrible and it has been for years. Log on today to find out I have a fine on my account - why?!

How hard to sort a small problem out

So on joining the receptionist ask for my name then email. With out knowing at the time she had put the wrong information for my email address in and was also given the wrong membership. The following day I was going to cancel as I already paid for my son and did not want to be spending £100 a month. Luckily I know the manager of the gym and he was able to give me the correct membership which resulted in having the price. So the first one was cancelled and the correct information was then added and I was told all other details was deleted. This turns out not to be the case and who ever they had sent all my details to seems to be able to keep changing my password and has the subscription still live and on looking I would have been paying for two monthly subscription. I was trying to explain to the receptionist last week what had happened and she just ignored it and was to lazy to type my name in fully so then we would ld have seen the problem. Now I’ve got to waste my time in going to sort this problem out which has resulted in me receiving loads of fake emails and texts and if I had not seen double the cost of membership

App fine but sooooo slow

The app is fine in principle, easy to use and no problems with navigation or finding the booking area however when I click on a day it takes probably 30 seconds to load, if it doesn’t time out and then at least the same again to click on a class and then book. It just makes the usage very frustrating! Is there a way to speed it up? Can I activate some kind of cache for the classes? Any assistance greatly appreciated!

It does not even open!!

I’ve my account set up, I can log in online. I downloaded this App by clicking on the link I got in the email from the gym. The App downloads but when I click on it to open it, it doesn’t work, I get an error message saying ‘Service unreachable

Room for improvement

The user experience could be improved vastly if the timetable could be updated for cancellations or late changes. If a class is cancelled this could show on the app, notify those already booked on and prevent others booking. Similarly for class changes. Currently we rely on someone calling us from the gym and this often does not happen.
When classes are full the waitlist seems to drop to zero 2 hours before the class start time. Why? People still cancel in that time

Useless

I started using this app when my daughter started swimming lessons. It worked for a total of three weeks and has refused to let me login in since. It says I have the wrong password (which I don’t). Tried to reset but won’t send the email to do so (not in any other email folders). Tried looking on my online account but gives no info, can’t even see my daughters swimming lessons listed as a membership anywhere. So frustrating as it was really useful to see her progress and where she’s struggling, now that’s not possible and the app/website are literally useless. Can’t do anything other than stare at my own email and home addresses, not exactly anything useful 🤦🏻‍♀️

Junior Bookings Functionality Is Flawed

My daughter has a Junior Membership with Places, and one of the key benefits is same day (off-peak) badminton courts are free of charge (when booking via telephone).
If using the App, the badminton court booking option doesn’t recognise this benefit and offers a court booking with a standard £ off-peak fee (the App should be configured to auto-apply ‘zero cost’ at the time of booking (same day bookings only)).
Hopefully, the App Developers will take action & provide a fix into their next App release.

Horrifically Painful

Endlessly times out. So slow, a terrible upgrade and they should have saved their money and stuck with the previous version (which wasn’t great either).
On the odd occasion it does load quickly it takes you to book a different class than the one you pressed on because there’s some sort of lag and if you don’t realise you end up booking something you didn’t want.
This app is a huge frustration amongst fellow gym attendees and further investment is needed to get this right. It’s easier to phone and book. Simply antiquated.

Won’t let me create an account

I’m trying to register an account via the app, but it keeps telling me that must enter a valid email address. Every other site I use recognises the email address, but this app seems to believe it’s not valid.
Absolutely nowhere to email for support regarding this, so leaving this review seems to be the only option! No account means I won’t be able to book sports facilities!

Still taking payment for a service I cannot use

Although the app is ok for booking sessions there is one major flaw. I am unable to cancel my membership. I was on a summer membership for the lido, and now winter is approaching I can no longer use the lido (I would have to become a swim club member). I then emailed a company who set up my direct debit to cancel my membership. However, despite doing this, a payment was still taken out of my account this month. Firstly, make this an automated process. I should just pay for the summer months and then it should cancel once I have no access to the facilities. Secondly, how can I now cancel my subscription? I haven’t heard back from the company which handles payments and now I have paid an extra month! Please improve your payment subscription system.

Recent system change

Hi , there seems to be a problem with the booking mechanism since the recent system change . Classes are showing as full ,with waiting list yet the classes aren’t full when you get there, is there a known issue that is being looked at? Other than this glitch the app is great . Thanks

App is OK - performance is really poor

App functionality is fine, but the loading performance is really poor. Gotta improve your infrastructure and loading times.
Consider ways for people to set the activity they are interested in, so you don’t need to serve unnecessary data on each date request.
Trying to load any date now at midnight is impossible and get response timeouts..
Also had a bug the other day where I selected an option from 7pm in the list and the app somehow managed to select something from 9am and booked it.. causing me to get a fine. Fortunately the gym was great and removed that.. but it shouldn’t have happened.

Can’t access

It’s been just on a week now since the new app launched and I have had so many issues getting it to accept my membership email. I’ve deleted the app, tried to reset the password, called my centre for support and still not working. Please advise what to do next as I’m not able to access and book classes or sessions for my kids and I which kind of nullifies the point of having the membership at all. Thanks.

The design of your system has so many faults and is impossible to use . The internet is full of complaints. You need to make it clear and user friendly. Check Tooting Bec Lido users messages online.
And at the moment you are trying to charge me £9.99 when as a Senior I should be paying £5.50 .

So Slow!! Please do something

The new app takes over at least a couple of mins to open the calendar and when it does, it comes up with an error “Request timed out” please try again later!!
I am pretty sure if someone in the data analysis team looks into the data since the new app launch. There’s prob a huge drop in people booking classes because it just fails to load or is very slow.

New app, same problems

This app is not an upgrade from the last. I have tired logging to my account and it either says invalid or error, I have then tried re setting my password numerous times and when I try to login after re setting my password it says error. Any time I am trying to book a class or a lesson it says error. I don’t see the point of this app if it doesn’t work. Please fix this

Basic improvements needed

1) The app does not appear to support autofill of the user name and password from Apple Keychain. Besides being inconvenient, this encourages the use of less secure (i.e., easy to remember) passwords. 2) When scheduling multiple events (using the Make Another Selection option), the dropdowns do not persist. This means tediously reselecting all of the parameters for the desired event, rather than the simple option of just selecting another date.

Potential data breach

Downloaded the app as requested. After a constant back and forth between logging in and errors, I eventually managed to get into the app. I immediately switch on two factor authentication. Within 3 minutes of navigating it, I was booted out and told to long back in again. I go to use the same password, and it is incorrect. I then get a huge spam of emails requesting the log in codes. I go to change my password, which seems successful, go to log in with the new password and the app still won’t let me in.
I’ve had another spam of emails sending me access codes which I have not asked for. There’s no direct links to help on the emails, and offices are closed so I can’t contact anyone. Tried contacting the sports centre I go to directly and they said there’s nothing they can do about it. Please check my account and ensure it’s secure. I will be emailing now and attempting to call tomorrow. Not good!

Takes forever to load anything.

This app looks, at a glance, way better than the old one ie more user friendly and accessible.
However, I find anything takes so long to load. Going on each day and then onto each class to book just displays a buffering symbol for between 20-30 seconds every time. This means booking classes is a task in itself as it takes so frustratingly long!

Potential to be great

Massive improvement on previous app. Initially when launched it was great but has now slowed down to painful speeds. Often have to click on book/cancel twice to get app to register the instruction. The processing of any request is ridiculous. 20 minutes to cancel a class tonight and still getting error messages which will result in fines if I don’t turn up to the class. App updates haven’t fixed speed.
Incidentally, the app is rated 17+ yet you need to use it for booking junior sessions. Bit of an oversight somewhere!

Useless as can’t see or book individual swim lanes

Very frustrated user (previously used Active Northumberland app with no issues). This new Places Leisure app is totally useless for booking swim lanes. There is no way to see which lane has people already booked in it to tell how busy it might be and it only shows “total” places. There is then no way to book onto an individual swim lane either. This means turning up to a swim lane is now a complete lottery as to how busy or quiet it might be

Would not recommend!

Have been trying to book bowling for a week now, going on the app on different days. Does not work! Lets you book a date, time and players, try to proceed and pay and a message comes up about pop ups. Ive changed all settings on my phone to allow pop ups and still no different. My husbands tried on his phone, still no joy!
Never had this problem when it was active northumberland!

Not impressed!

Having previously used the Active Northumberland App on many occasions, without issue, this one is not as user friendly. Not as informative and it has an issue in that I was unable to make bookings on the app on my phone as kept getting error messages about pop ups, despite having adjusted this in my phone settings. Had to go on the website on a different device in the end, as could not get past the error messages after 2 days of trying. If people are expected to rely on this they should make sure it is fit for purpose first.

JOINING ONLINE IS A SHAMBLES

I star because I couldn’t give zero stars - which is all the online site is worth.
Membership options for Adult 3month up-front option gives the price for a concessions rate (but hides the fact that it is a concession rate). Senior rate options are not available to purchase online and neither are Concession rates (unless of course you try to book as an Adult and then find out the reduced rate is not actually honoured as your not eligible). Disgraceful! Morpeth had a newly built facility at a cost in excess of £26 million only a year ago, it was great until these jokers took over!!! Absolute Shambles!

Much better!

This is a much better app - love the option to add to calendar and see the classes that are available.
However! It’s adding me to notifications that I haven’t requested - when a class is full and you can request to be notified. Apparently I have but I don’t get the notifications?!
Anyway to stop/undo this? It’s like it’s set for certain classes every week.

Please add push notifications!

Having the app is brilliant. It’s a central point on your device to book classes, check session times etc.
However, it could really benefit from having push notifications for free class spaces (when ‘notify on’ is enabled) or a reminder for booked sessions to help avoid the fine.
Only having Email notifications doesn’t help as most people don’t receive email notifications immediately on their device and it’s very difficult to get booked onto a space when it becomes available.
In addition, booking junior gym sessions is very inefficient with the current system, which is to phone a centre directly. Some centres don’t answer the phone, especially in peak periods. It would be much easier for the customer to use the app to book these sessions for their 11-16 children.
Finally, the app also crashes every time a session is booked. Then you are left unsure of it is booked and have to wait for it to restart in order to look at booked sessions.

The swimming part

3 weeks on from this and it’s shocking, trying to book anything is so random, have been trying to book lane swimming for the last 2 hours and the same error message comes up
Please sort it out
The app is much clearer and easier to use in appearance however many times when trying to book swimming it gets so far then won’t load, this happens around 6 AM , during the day it’s better

ERROR 404-page not found

Tried to cancel a class today well before the 2 hour deadline using the previous version of the app. I wasn’t able to access it - Error 404 -page not found. Forced to download the new version of the app, even though the previous version worked absolutely fine for my needs. Tried to log in. Says my login credentials are invalid. No reason why they should be as I haven’t made any changes to my password. So I tried using the Forgotten password button. And guess what, I get a response “Error 404-page not found”. All the time this has taken has taken me over the time mean I will now get a fine. I am unable to viewing any bookings or make any bookings. And I use the gym daily at the moment. There was not even any communication about a cut off date when the old app would become inactive. This is all extremely frustrating! And has taken an hour already. Technology is supposed to make life easier!

Why is it always so slow???

It used to be slow but easy to book classes 2 weeks in advance but now I only see one week schedule and even it is stuck at the last day. They said they improved the app but I don’t see the improvement much. If it works and I can book smoothly, that is great. But at this moment I do not see the improvement. Disappointing

Improved layout but can be improved

New app’s layout is a significant improvement on the old app’s. However it is still difficult to search for a particular class. The app allows a search within a particular day but not a search across a week. To find a class I would have to search one day at a time.

So slow

The new layout is better overall than the old but it is so much slower and time outs a lot. The amount of time spent on booking a class varies wildly, from instantly to 5 minutes. I wondered if it was my new mobile provider but it doesn’t happen with my other apps. The in-house checking in system doesn’t reliably speak to the turnstiles and so I constantly get slapped with unwarranted fines which prevent me using the app at all. My moaning about it to staff at Dover falls on deaf ears.

Gym induction with Kieran DC

I had my gym induction with Kieran today and he was really helpful listened to what I hope to achieve and showed me the equipment that would work well for me to achieve what I want. You felt that you could ask him anything about fitness and he seems knowledgeable but without being judgemental.

A little more speed and it will be perfect

Really like the user interface.
Time out issues have been sorted… still a little slow at bringing back activities but at least it doesn’t time out all the time.

Good layout but terribly slow

I was excited for a hopefully enhanced experience to book and view classes. Whilst I like and appreciate the layout and ease of navigation it’s SOOOOO slow - every time I click on a function it takes absolutely ages to move forward or actually book a class. Really hope this is a temporary blip that gets addressed asap.

I can’t book a class

This app doesn’t work if you want to book classes. Every time I try to book a class, it says the app connection doesn’t work and to try later. It’s not my phone connection, etc. Every other app works perfectly fine, it’s just this app specifically and it’s really irritating.

Love all the classes I go to but, please get blinds on the windows, when the sun shines through, it’s right in your eyes and you can’t concentrate properly. Would love to swim or do aqua but, your showers are awful, I want to take my costume off to shower ( I can’t because it’s communal)and I want to rinse my hair in cold water after washing it, ( can’t because there’s no taps)

Poor App

This is terrible app it has so many missing features that would make it easier to use. Give me an overview of what I’ve booked in a calendar and give me a better view of availability.
If you could filter easily by class type and time it would make booking simpler. Given that everyone books all the classes so you can’t join anything is also frustrating

Why?

Learn from your mistakes Places, don’t release new software until you’ve checked (and double checked) that it actually works. For extra bonus points, don’t release an update at the weekend when you don’t have people available to fix it but your centres are busy.
This “new” app is a total failure. So slow to load classes that it just times out. Fortunately (or is it deliberate?) the “cancel membership” option doesn’t work either, so I’m still here. For now. Super frustrating.

New user interface, same old slow web pages

This new ‘highly anticipated’ app features a new main user interface. But delve any deeper and you’ll find that it’s riddled with bugs and very slow menus. This means that when you try to open anything it takes an age for the page to open.
The app has the potential to be a very good app, but at this rate it’s better to book via carrier pigeon or smoke signals. Other branded facilities I have visited have used a far better app that is fast and user friendly. Surely you’d take inspiration from some of those apps?

Amazing place

I attend the Leisure Centre almost daily and whenever I am there I am met with friendly staff who will go out of their way to help you. I am at the gym ( sometimes) the pool and the Health Suite and I also attend some of the classes. Well worth the monthly subscription.
