The Defence Discount Service App is brought to you from the official Ministry of Defence discount service for the UK's; Armed Forces, Veterans and Armed Forces Community.
With thousands of offers already available within this service, this app acts as an ideal way to experience, find, remember those offers that are of particular interest to how and where you shop. We have designed the app so that all offers and features are simply a swipe or a touch away.
There are hundreds of companies ready with offers because of the service you or your family has provided the country. Big brands & local companies provide offers in local stores, online & via gift cards.
The App

You can quickly & easily find everything you want right from the main screen. Time sensitive offers appear at the top, your virtual card and offers near me underneath. Collections of offers are a touch away underneath followed by multiple rows of companies each with offers. Extra features are positioned at the bottom. It is both visually stunning and beautifully simple.
Highlights
• Search - all search features are now in a single screen. We have a new 'Search by Phrase' option, 'Companies' showing an alphabetically ordered list with quick filter and 'Search by Category' which helps you find companies and offers grouped together.
• Near Me - we have made this even easier, which is hard as it is one of the most used features. There was always a list view, but it was hard to spot - so we made it really easy.
• Favourites - now much easier to use and simple to understand, you can even change their order.
• Offer improvements - we have tweaked how we display each offer, for time limited offers we show an expiry caption that is easy to understand, for all offers we colour code and show the type of offer like High Street & Online. For offers you are likely to use in person we automatically add a quick access to your Virtual Card if you have one.
• Redeeming online offers - we have added a mini-browser with back and forward buttons so you do not accidentally come off the screen entirely (we understand how annoying that can be).
• Privilege card - you can get one of these directly inside the app and for members that have one we have a virtual card inside the app that you can swipe to rotate in 3D, careful, it is addictive.
• Notifications - we will keep you informed of select offers, plus when we need update you about your account.
• Suggestions - we really value your ideas and your help in pointing out issues we may not yet be aware of - so we have added features in the app for you to quickly share them with us. This really is the fastest way to get things fixed or improved.

I am generally happy with the DDS app but when I wanted to ask a question I noticed that there is no email address shown to allow patrons to send in a question and receive an answer. The only thing they provide is a phone number (in work hours Monday - Friday) and company address for snail mail. I do not find this very customer/Veteran friendly and feel this is an oversight that needs to be corrected asap.
I also could only find a DDS app for the Pad or phone but what about smart watches?? This is a question that I am sure would have been asked before but it does not exist in the FAQ section but in the light of technology increases and the use of smart devices more and more this is something that needs to be addressed asap.

The last time I successfully managed to use this app for a discount was over 2 years ago. Recently since the emergence of the newer Blue Light Card service this app has been made redundant. None of the discount codes work! Trust me I’ve tried several different websites to test my theory. It’s become a complete sham. This is pure greed. There’s already a team working on suing them for for taking advantage of service members like this. 4.99 is not money to argue about but be honest about your intentions and not take advantage of 1000’s of HM forces service men.

For veterans, the DDS is an easier process to apply, rather than the Blue Light Card … but, BLC seems to have better/greater discounts available and more recognised by retail shops.
Please can DDS match BLC discounts, so we don’t have a competitor, but be more in sync with each other’s services!

Unfortunately I have to explain what DDS is to retail/restaurant staff and mention that I USED to be a ‘key worker’ (military) as most staff are unaware of their own discount policies.

This app used to be great, then it was redesigned to be more funky or something, now its a pain.
Not only did the funky update delete ALL my favourites, when I add them back, each update deletes them again, stop blooming updating it.
Add to that, the virtual card “really fun feature” makes the card flip on the wrong side, so you have to hold the phone in portrait to get the card to appear in landscape.

The six years I spent in the Army were certainly some of the best years of my life and the fact that qualifies me for this discount card is an added bonus.
The £5 fee was recouped the first time I used the card with Curry’s vouchers to purchase my TV saving £40!
I have continued to use the card regularly for clothes shopping, restaurant visits, cinema tickets and hotel stays and have easily saved over £500!

I’ve saved on Travel lodge a couple of times now and even KFC, New Look just to name a few. Wouldn’t be without this card. You sometimes get better discounts than you do with a MOD 90. I used this app a bit whilst still serving; since retiring, however, it’s become my go to app. I’ve saved over £1000 in 12 months.
Definitely worth while if you use it wisely.

Great bargains to be had. However it would be better if the ability to search by categories was more accurate, so many companies are missed when you search by category.

This is so useful having the chance to check for discounts as you walk around. We saved over £100 on a new iphone and £35 a month on getting a new Vodaphone contract as we saved 30% and the lady was really helpful as my partners a Veteran she said she would do the best deal she could.

Downloaded the app when I signed up 2 years ago, didn't feel it was any good so left feedback then deleted it. Wanted to check where I could get discounts soon as I've got to do abit of shopping and was pleasantly surprised how much different and efficient the new and improved app is. If you've got the card you've got to have the app to go along with it
