Radar Tutorial:

Been my radar app for years but tweaks needed!

I have recommended this app to many people and it’s been my “go to” weather radar for years when there was little else on iOS but I think now a few others are becoming more common including the inbuilt weather app radar so the app developer shouldn’t rest on their laurels.

For me there are a few irritations which I am sure are fixable:

Firstly, it often takes so long to “back load” the weather up to now before if then starts moving forward which on a slow connection can be soooo irritating. Why can’t you get “now image” (as you do now) and forward load first before back loading or only back load if people then scroll back. Surely majority of people always want the radar for the next hour or so and not what’s been? The amount of time I’ve wasted watching the catch up bar get to now and move forward in time (which is what most people want!) is ridiculous! There must be an improvement you can make here.

Secondly, the forward bar (whilst waiting for the dreaded back loading!) will jump back to the oldest image when you tap right and hit the end stop. No no no, why do you want it to wrap around automatically? Add a setting so when it hits the end stop that’s where it stops and users can then wait for the forward images to drop in whilst whacking right. Again if you’re banging right why on earth would you want to go back in time!

Thirdly, the “start” button is too close to the right button, again people will be whacking g right as we all care about what the weather will be in the future (right?!) and it’s too easy to hit that horrible play button which I’ve got zero interest in. Again either move it left a bit or add setting to remove the darn thing. I do t want a continuous moving image of the weather I want to scroll forwards and see what it will be.

Fix those things which have irritated me for years and it’s five stars.

Brilliant App for short term predictions. Amazingly accurate. If you’re about to embark on a long dog walk, it’s the difference between smelly soggy dog or dry (but muddy) dog, just by checking and adjusting your timings

Bought this as a replacement for Dark Sky. It is fairly accurate for forecasting the rain for the next few hours in a particular location.

Where it falls down (for me) is the interface, there are too many layers (options) to select. You can only select one item at a time, so the ability to see the temperature & rain forecast or temperature & sun forecast is not there.

Does not have a pollen forecast.

Hence only 3 stars.

I don’t care about running in the rain but I DO care about walking the dogs - if I can avoid bringing home 3 big hairy sponges, by going out earlier or later, I will adjust my plans.. and that’s just what this app helps me to do.

The magic is in the predictions - which, you have to remember, are predictions- not an actual time bending reading from the future. They are a decent attempt to guide you in your choices. Will it rain at Beggars Cross at 11:47? Maybe 12:15, maybe 11:38.

A few days ago it’s prediction of rain was accurate to the minute, which was quite an achievement - and allowed me to walk the woofers and get home dry and mud free - not that they would have been bothered in the slightest 🤣

I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be so accurate, but it’s much better than the other weather app that I use. You can actually see the weather coming towards your location, you can see if you’re in for a shower or a deluge and you can see within ten minutes or so when it’s going to arrive. However appears broken as the animation loop has gone a little strange with the “*” prediction time ahead.

One thing I’ve always wanted to see is improved prediction on the time ahead, as this is sadly lacking. The problem appears that the algorithms doesn’t follow certain accurate patterns of predictions for the different patterns. I believe it could

Examples: some areas of rain just move along and either remain in their size and shape for long times, or shrink as they move along uniformly or can intensify. However some rain doesn’t retain its size and mass of area instead bubbling up from no where, however the rain radar prediction will grab a screen capture of the rain that’s bubbled up and then in prediction it will slowly move that area of rain along when it should be following the trend pattern of bubbling up and disappearing as other bits bubble up

I used to swear by this app but unfortunately it seems to have been neglected by the developer and recent reviews reflect this. It’s getting less accurate and more ‘buggy’ by the month. During this unseasonable weather we’re experiencing (9/8/19) for example, what was supposedly almost half an hour of torrential rain - ended up being completely dry, and selecting a lightening notification in the same evening just opens up a blank map of the uk.

Not reliable for me at the moment, hopefully it will return to what it once was.

I’m a farmer and I need to be able to work out when to apply crop inputs. Ordinary forecasts are ok up to a point for a general view but regularly fail to predict local conditions with the accuracy required to accurately determine when or when not to apply valuable agrochemicals. Untimely rain can limit the efficacy or completely wash these inputs off. This app allows allows me to make the right decisions and is invaluable to my farming operations. Excellent!

This excellent app gives you up to date forecasts of rain over the next few hours. I use it all the time when planning walking the dog. Saying that with Scottish weather you used to never know, now you really do. Brilliant, and not got my hair or the dog wet yet. Accuracy has been spot on so far. I also enjoy knowing how heavy the rain is going to be, if you see red or purple you know to get inside.

I use this app all the time. It is very accurate and I find it invaluable when planning walks, bike rides or any outdoor activity. I am able to 'predict' with some accuracy when it is going to rain.

Best rain fall radar app I've come across. Always accurate and some nice added features like lightening strike map too.

This app is amazing. It lets you see a forecast and live weather of all different kinds. The precipitation radar is almost always nearly correct and the new lightning radar system is great when looking out for Thunderstorms. Great app all round, would never go without again. 😁👍
