What's New in Version 4.2.5
In this update we have again been fixing some issues and bugs. We have also provided a way for you to delete your account from the My Details section, and removed some unimportant profile sections. We are still working very hard on a much bigger release so stay tuned!

Update Not Working
Updated this as required and the app won’t load or work which is not great . Not at all so beware of this and have removed this and reinstalled it but it’s still not working

This app does not have a search bar so you can search for a story, new story or old.

This app does not allow you to delete or amend your comments , like Facebook , you can amend , delete all your comments as you wish, you can shut your account down on Facebook , but with Birmingham evening mail you can not do this. No chance of leaving this app once you’ve joined, they store your data and you have no control on it .

A Travesty of Journalism
Little evidence of investigation of local stories, though plenty to suggest uncritical re-writing of PR handouts from the police and others. The app is cheap-looking which is in line with its journalistic values. Get a proper editor and news teams that go out and get the stories that tell us about life in the West Midlands.

Incitement of Racial Hatred
If I could have rated this app zero stars I would have. For the most part, news that includes anything to do with ethnic minorities, are open for comment. Said comments can be extremely racist and allowed to remain whilst challenging comments are moderated and deleted. Disgusting!

Nothing to do with Birmingham. News from all over the country as owned by the mirror . Every headlines starts ‘ what we know so far’ repeat news 4-5 times a year and main headlines are the weather forecast, Danielle Lloyd or who sells fish and chips . Absolutely pathetic

Utterly hopeless, clickbait, censored tat
To call this a local news app is a travesty. Crammed with clickbait and dross stories with no relevance to the region. Crammed with ‘celebrity’ (in the loosest possible sense) tat. Milks genuine news stories for weeks at a time, multiple times a day. All with a slightly anti-authority left wing slant to appease it’s Daily Mirror owners. The very worst aspect of this app is the almost impossibly censored comment section. Now I get that there are potential issues with this but it clearly uses some sort of keyword algorithm. Which is patently broken and programmed by a frightened student. It places even the most innocuous or sensible comments under permanent review, while still allowing some to make blatantly racist or abusive comments unchecked. This is the reason it’s full of multi 3 word posts by the same authors who get around it by splitting their messages. Pointless, depressing and makes the site ultra scruffy. And don’t start me on spelling and grammar... Avoid!

The app doesn’t update unless you agree to all sorts of cookies leading to spam.
Spelling mistakes by journalist’s are only a side dish to the reports of who’s been arrested for shoplifting in a charity shop, parking on pavement’s, bad hygiene ratings for takeaways, Insurance jobs arson, bad bwoy behaviour by benefits claimants, cack football team updates. Or, just a thought, is it where we live? Not getting too deep, still a bad app with little effort by the creators and lysdexic journabolists

Don’t waste your time downloading this app you would be quicker sending a pigeon to collect information on your local news!
I’ve emailed them easily about 5-6 times with complaints about this app and it remains the same again DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP IT DOSE NOT WORK!

No better than when it was called Birmingham Mail
No matter what you do with is app, it will not get good raves until the under review part is used properly. People can put asterisks in place of a swear word and get away with it. But then people like me put something clean and not degrading in any way get put under review. It needs sorting. Maybe then the ratings for this app will change

Don’t challenge MIrror Group Newspapers take on the news
Mirror Group news who have created this app own scores of local Newspapers. You will find that once your register to comment on you local paper, ie Birmingham Mail,you’ll be able to make comments on papers al over the country.
If you decide to make any remark contrary to the ethos of the Centre left Labour supporting company your comment will go into moderation and effectively you will be banned.
This is what will happen if Comrade Corbyn gets elected.
Strangely the app appears to let people make fascist rascist and islamaphobic comments without any action being taken.
The quality of the articles leave a lot to be desired and to be quite honest many of these reporters will never get to work on a big national daily.
Also very very random video clips are inserted into articles that actually do not appear to have any particular relevance

Clunky and fails to refresh
Not prompt enough. Forever reading the same headline throughout the day. Keeps crashing.

Birmingham Dead would be more accurate
Since the rebranding, the usefulness of the app has decreased dramatically.
The News stories do not automatically refresh. You have to manually force it to refresh.
When you get a notification of a news story, clicking it takes you to the home page not the story if it has not been downloaded - see above.
There is no facility to search for a story.
To bookmark a story to read later you have to be signed in - err local storage people?
There are sign-in links via Facebook and Twitter that don’t actually work.
This app might actually be useful if anybody bothered to finish it.

Poor reporting
Repeat stories for weeks, if you make a comment on one of the local teams page that is in no way offensive no swear words etc it gets deleted if the admin support the other team and don’t like what your saying.
Not all bad, you often find that this app reports news early compared with other sources of news for the area.

Updates
They send regular updates but when you try to go onto the main site, they not there and what is available is news that’s over 3 days old. Unfortunately I do not live in the past, I want to be updated as soon as it happens. 🧐

Terrible reporting
The app seems to get worse after every update. Why can’t any of the News sections be in order of the time they were published?
As for the quality of the reporting... well employing kids just out of college is clear for all to see due to the stories written. As for the spelling and grammar - well these kids clearly left college with no English qualifications!

App Freeze
I find the app frequently freezes up or will only open some of the pages.
I would like to use it more frequently than I do, however I find the above very frustrating.
