Flying Ruler is a tape measure, ruler, protractor and a goniometer (angle-measurer). It is four devices in one app, providing you with the quickest way to measure a distance or an angle.
The secret of the program is that it is based on the principles of the inertial navigational system (INS): the position of the device is determined with the help of the accelerometer and the gyroscope.
The app has different modes so you can choose which mode is better and easier to use on each occasion. You can measure with the body of the device in one mode or with a virtual ruler in another. You can not only measure an object but also the distance between two walls. You use the same methods to measure angles as the app allows you to measure angles both on a surface area and between surfaces through space.
You can choose either inches or centimeters. The maximum distance is only limited by the value of the indicator which consists of 999 ft for the imperial system and 99 m for the metric system.
When measuring, you can avoid obstacles and therefore you can measure anything.
Flying Ruler is suitable for measuring not only large, but also very small distances with the accuracy of a standard ruler.
The app also allows you to save a measurement by taking a photograph of the measurement and mark the place that was measured.

ACCURACY OF MEASUREMENT:
We took 100 consecutive measurements and got these results:
On iPhone 13:
• Mean squared error - 0.14%
• Maximum inaccuracy - 0.4%
On iPhone 7:
• Mean squared error - 0.15%
• Maximum inaccuracy - 0.4%
On iPhone 6s:
• Mean squared error - 0.28%
• Maximum inaccuracy - 1.1%
The accuracy of measurements depends on the device, however the error rarely exceeds 1.5%. You can always increase accuracy by making a series of measurements. If you make a series of measurements, the degree of error is usually 0.3% or less.
Angles can be measured with the app to an accuracy of one degree so the app can easily take the place of a protractor or a goniometer (angle measurer).

Don't rely on the results
I have calibrated and checked the ruler and can't get consistent results when measuring a 40cm distance against my ruler. Results were out by about 5 cm to 0.5cm each time. So regretably not worth paying for. Great design though in general the app is not functional.

Great idea
I always thought smart phones should be used in more ways and this is a perfect idea. The only thing that stops it being 5 stars is that wether it's down to the app or the accuracy of the gyroscope having to take 5 measurements to get an average doesn't seem practical and I understand that it's a great way of getting the average measurement but for an app to replace a physical tool it has to work the same and better. But as I said brilliant app for showing off and rough measurements when you have no access to a ruler! :)

Clever use of technology
If used according to the instructions, the application works well. Accuracy is better when taking a few measurements and using the average, which is usefully calculated and stored. Will repay the time spent learning how to get useable results.

Handier than a free IKEA paper tape - what a great idea. I had my doubts about its accuracy - given that it relies on acceleration, not distance covered, but actually, it's amazingly accurate. Best to move at a steady speed.

Looks good so far
Not had a chance to play with this fully, it's Christmas Day and I've had a few beers. I've measured the distance from the sofa to the fridge a couple of times and it says 4m something and that looks about right. This is useful to make sure I am taking the most direct route. Unfortunately the satnav app I have doesn't work indoors 😕

Accurate and simple
Worked very accurately measuring the size of my desk. After measuring, we found the original specs for the desk and the numbers were spot on
I was a little confused about how to change modes to height measurement at first, but once you find the button it's the perfect tool.
