Rubbish update
I have been reading Wales Online for free for several years and whilst not being a good app has deteriorated since the recent update.
Now you’re allowed to read 25 free articles and once you reach that amount you have to pay for additional articles.
Unfortunately the quality of the news articles don’t justify payment and as a consequence will look elsewhere to find news about Wales.

I don’t know what you’ve done but the widget now has a thick bezel around it. Deleted and reinstalled the app and it is still a problem. Please fix.

Had this app for years but will be getting rid of it soon. They only allow you to read 25 articles a week. When you rung out u either have to subscribe which will cost money or wait 7 days for it to reset. News app it is and their trying to charge people. Shocking

Was always a little difficult to navigate. Now you can read a paragraph before being told you have to subscribe to see more. Journalism is not good enough to warrant that, and all people in my household are now deleting the app. Why pay for an app that crashes all the time, with not very good content, and forces us to have to reboot our phones. It’s not going to last at this rate.

Could be so much better
Content isn’t updated as frequently as it should be.
When comments are left and responses received have to look through all comments as link to the specific comments doesn’t work.
By far the most irritating is that when comment history is accessed the app closes down. No action taken despite reporting the issue.

Getting worse!
I ditched this app around a year ago because of the generally poor standards of reporting. I recently rejoined and found nothing has changed but now it seems WOL wants us to subscribe to their premium service just to read the full text of some news items. Also, I’ve tried posting some comments which were definitely in accordance with their community standards yet they fail to post/publish. Why?
As it stands I could never recommend this app to anyone and to be honest if it gets any worse I’ll be ditching it again.

Now they want you to pay for poor journalism
What a cheek! £19.99 a year for premium content. Dear Wales Online, Please take my hard earned money for awful journalism. I love paying for the following: - 1. Spelling mistakes. 2. Awful grammar. 3. Headlines/sentences that make no sense whatsoever. 4. Articles about Alex Jones/Carol Vorderman (almost daily). 5. The reader telling me the actual facts of a story in comments when you get it wrong and you then update the story and turn the comments off. 6. Loads of stories about food and drink outlets near Wood Street. Close to Wales Online HQ. Easy article, done. 7. Lidl has a new ……… (insert here, change daily) 8. The rehashing of the same stories year after year. Eg. Old pubs, old clubs, old cinemas. So much more history out there. Stop being lazy and go and find it. 9. Over sensationalising of story headlines. Shock when you see the headline and then it was all ok by the end of the article. 10. Some of the language used is distasteful. Especially when you write about bodily fluids. Stop the slang and use more professional terms. I could go on. You are our National rag. Sort it out. We’re all hungry for good journalism.

Deleted immediately….absolute privacy nightmare of an app…
Absolutely 1000s of other ‘vendors’ - read ad companies involved who all want to profile you.
To turn off all their ‘legitimate interest’ - read spying tactics, is an absolute chore because they don’t want you doing that, and will not make it easy for you to do so.
After 20 minutes of unticking the boxes, it turns out they have these ‘options’ in two separate places!!
Lost the will to bother, and deleted it instead.
I’ll stick to the website via a VPN, and my ad blockers, no tracking, no adverts, much better.

The problem with WOL is that they are more than willing to post and write about anything and everything providing you agree with what they write. You are not allowed to oppose any views they may have, if you do then your either “failed to post” or “content disabled”. There’s literally hundreds if not thousands of companies tracking your activity. Some are legitimate interest buttons. Great News but watch out for Crypto scams!
Watch out for “drop downs” relating to famous people advocating investing in Crypto. The famous people such as Elon Musk in the US and Jeremy Clarkson in the UK have their images appearing on screen apparently being interviewed by tv companies re Crypto trading and how to make a fortune quickly. This is all fake and is designed to lure you into investing in Cryptocurrency. Be warned.
This technique is also used on Meta aka Facebook.

Would love to use this app but it’s unusable. Despite turning off all the hundreds of hidden “legitimate interests” consent toggles (20 minutes!) that track you even though you turn off the big “legitimate interests” buttons I’m bombarded by adverts. I do not want to be tracked and have my personal details sold. You do not have any “legitimate interests” that outweigh my legitimate interests in having privacy.
Really not worth the other.

Annoying - But, Explanation
Wales Online must be the most annoying App you can get. Trying to read an article without getting a headache is practically impossible as adverts continually popping in disrupts the text causing it to jump, jump and jump. Given up.

GDPR WARNING!!!
Be warned that this app DOES NOT give a REJECT ALL option when you go to manage your cookies preferences!!! I took me over 30 mins to turn them all off (there are literally hundreds) during the update including the so called “Legitimate Interest” options. Went back in to check once in the app and everything single one I had turned off was back on.
UK ICO: No "reject all" button is mandatory although preferable. A consent mechanism that emphasises “agree” or “allow” over “reject” or “block” represents a non-compliant approach, as the online service is influencing users towards the “accept” option.

Have been waiting 15 hours after trying to reset up. All I have is a space satellite fetching latest news for me. Wish the empire would strike back to erase this app. Deleted from iPhone and then did a fresh download - exactly the same. So poor so poor so poor! An utter disgrace to Wales
This app and the Wales Online website are an absolute disgrace. I assume that money for advertising is far more important to the owners than being able to provide news to people. The amount of adverts make using the app or website virtually impossible as it completely slows everything down and drains battery. For a national news service you’re a shambles.

The worst news app I know of
I would love to be able to use an app that provides a decent news service for Wales. This just doesn’t do it and never has. Here are just some of my gripes.
You open a news article and start reading, then the pop up adverts start to populate which break into the text you are reading.
Lots of the news articles are just so out of date. Some have no date on them at all and they’re not sorted with the most recent first.
I commented on an article today and received notification that people had replied to me. I clicked on the notifications which took me to the article. Can I see the replies? I can’t even find my original comments!
I see the developer keeps responding to people’s complaints by apologising. I want no apology. I want you to spend the time on taking action to resolve some of the long term problems with this app that have been there for years! And the page on my browser is just as bad…..

For a few weeks before Christmas the app was working fine on my iPad. Now it is starting to drop out again. It is impossible to read a story and go straight to comments, because you end up with a blank page. Qualified IT staff are needed to sort out once and for all.

Recent app update - new problem
After recent updating of the appearance of the Comments section, comments no longer load on my iPad. 2020 iPad, iOS up to date, good wifi.
Clicking the Comments icon on any article just leads to the interminable loading wheel.
I like to know what others think, so I’ve gone back to the website where the Comments section works.

Very sneaky ATT implementation
So the way you’ve implemented is a bit dubious. You prompt the user giving the usual “letting us track you let’s us personalise the ads we show you and so on” with the options “Allow” or “Maybe later”. If you tap maybe later, you’re prompted again at a later date. If you tap allow, you’re taken to the standard Apple prompt where you can block tracking (which I have done). Pretty sure the only option on the first prompt you show should be “continue” or “next” which then shows the Apple prompt. You’ve just done this to confuse people who don’t know better.

I have nothing good to say about this nor its sister app North Wales Online, both are equally poor in content, reporting quality and presentation.
Whoever put this together needs to look at some of the other online news apps and learn a few lessons.
Looks to like something you may build for your first school project but I think that may also be an insult as to what’s being taught in schools!

Really good app
I use the app all the time and I have notifications on, but I can’t find a way to customise them. I live in Swansea and currently I get notifications about news from all around the country, which I don’t really need. So if this feature could be added - maybe something along the lines of choosing topics to receive notifications for - the app would be perfect.

A good read but could do with improvements
Keeps me updated on local and international issues but it could do with some puzzle pages as are typical with hard copied news and a greater range of sports not just the main two of Rugby and Football such as international cycling and the even some of the lesser known ones too. Worth downloading even so.

The news is current and up to date. Their choice of headline stories are generally poor. They have stopped the comments section.
Reporters are politically biased to the Labour Party in general.
Rugby reporters have their obvious affiliations and rarely report with accuracy. They also regularly regurgitate stories with different headlines.

This app is so helpful, it always provides me with the most relevant news, specific to my tastes, city and area. I also like that you get frequent notifications with informative headlines that tell you enough that you are informed and don’t have to read the entire article, but can of course if you want to.

Stories not loading
It look good, and simple to use but sadly you hit on a stories headline and a blank page opens. This needs to be urgently sorted out. Also going through a story and having so much advertising and having to press the next button after so many lines of that story is frustrating to say the least and if you accidentally press something while reading that story you lose it completely. Understand you have to survive on advertising but not be overwhelmed with it. Improve and will be worth the 5 stars

I find it very good for Welsh and local news, but as previously commented, you sometimes have to go into a heading more than once to get the full content.
Also the most annoying thing I find, is when it drops out of the app when in mid story, this happens frequently on iPhone and iPad.

I prefer the old version
This app has become really annoying whilst reading a story when it jumps and you have to find where you’ve read up to again and again.
I have also noticed that the punctuation and grammar within the stories are also really poor and suggest stories are reviewed before being published to save the embarrassment of making them look like primary school pupils have put them together

No longer can I just log into Cardiff City news I have to put up with the Swans on the same page !!! Why on why have you changed it ????
The same complaint for the Rugby it’s mixed with all sorts of rubbish !!!

All in all not a bad app. Unfortunately just too many videos that take an age to load, when all you want to do is read the story.
Give us a read only version - you don’t need tech to make you good.

Slow.
The app is way too slow on updates of events. I expected it to be sharp and as soon as something happens it gets put on rather than looking through it once a day like you would a newspaper. For a city its like only 3 things happen once a day and thats it. Other social media platforms are much quicker at finding out things and spreading the word.

Useful news but so much old stuff.. and not so LIVE as it seems
Not many years ago today’s news would be tomorrow’s chip paper but not here stories just linger on and on. Some stories are headed LIVE only to discover it was live a week ago and nobody’s bothered to update it. LIVE traffic updates are yesterday or older, LIVE reports of a fire and traffic congestion in the city centre are a week old. It’s great to have live coverage but please remove LIVE banner after event etc is over... otherwise great app, sadly though seeing the rapid demise of printed newspapers in this rapidly changing age of electronic media.

Good & bad!
Lots of good news & sports stories, but like others have mentioned, quite often when you click on a story it only opens the headline & you have to go back & then back in it to open full story. There’s also different glitches between iPhone & iPad versions, app regularly crashes on iPad when you click in a story while on my iPhone the app doesn’t save my preferred regions, subjects etc. You select them & they appear on app but as soon as you go out if app & back in it has reverted back to the original tabs. Very annoying! Have tried deleting app on both iPad & iPhone to see if this corrects glitches but it does not.

Never opens the story properly when clicking on a notification.
Every time a notification comes up on my phone. You click to go into the story and it never ones the story properly. Only the headline. It needs sorting ASAP.

Wales Online travels!
My wife and I have been reading Wales Online wherever we have been in the world, from North America to the Middle East, and it always does a good job of updating us on events, good or bad, in the province.

Poor updates which don’t actually reflect what the current news situation is.
If you picked up a newspaper on Monday morning and by Thursday morning you were still reading the exact same article which was published in Monday’s paper you would be incensed. There are no regular updates shown and when there is something newsworthy happening in an area. Such as 6 members of a Newport based drugs gang receiving 45 years imprisonment, WOL would rather keep a story up about how you could own a mortuary which is up for sale. Really lazy, sub standard work.

Use this app daily it comes with breaking news stories across Wales and the UK and the World. Interesting articles with interactive fact file.

App ok but poor quality paper
Wales online is a poor quality paper with many stale, badly written articles - sensationalised headlines, poor grammar, spelling mistakes and often poorly researched stories. Readers comments section is full of adverts for ‘working from home’ and adverts constantly pop up or take over videos. Not great.

Failure to show news item following a notification
I am extremely frustrated by this app because I cannot find the news item relating to the pop up notification. As a subscriber to the evening post Swansea edition I was under the impression that the news would be readily available, it’s not and the app is poor, like the evening post newspaper it’s historical and not current.

Too much stale news
Every day, when I switch on my iPad, there are a number of latest or breaking news items "waiting to be read", you would assume. Searching through ALL news items in ALL regions is a waste of time. You won't find them! What you will find is a load of stale and obsolete stuff going back over a couple of weeks. Maybe, in a few days time, I will be able to read today's breaking news,on this site. Earlier on another publication, probably.

Can you please connect popups directly to the news item. It's painful trying to find the item. It would also help if the item is up and operational.
This said I do find your app better than other sites.
