Highlights:
- Search - all search features are now in a single screen. We have a new 'Search by Phrase' option, 'Companies' showing an alphabetically ordered list with quick filter and 'Search by Category' which helps you find companies and offers grouped together.
- Near Me - we have made this even easier, which is hard as it is one of the most used features. There was always a list view, but it was hard to spot - so we’ve made it really easy.
- Favourites - now much easier to use and simple to understand, you can even change their order.
- Offer improvements - we have tweaked how we display each offer, for time limited offers we show an expiry caption that is easy to understand, for all offers we colour code and show the type of offer like High Street & Online. For offers you are likely to use in person we automatically add a quick access to your Virtual Card if you have one.

Just received my blue light card, never realised how many establishments take it and give discounts to the essential services workers. I feel a bit embarrassed in asking establishments if they accept the card, but I’m about to use it for the 2nd time on my day off in a restaurant this afternoon.
It does make a difference and makes you feel in a strange way acknowledged.

This app looks and feels like it has been written and developed by a caveman. My 15 yr old nephew could do better.
Why do we have to constantly log on every time we open the app? Face ID, Touch ID have been around for years…
And this is just the iPhone app, the iPad app is 10 times worse, some offers it just doesn’t even open, you’re just left with a blank white screen so you have to put your iPad down and use the iPhone app.
Given this is a paid for service we should be given better…

The discounts on offer are great. However this app itself is very underwhelming. Firstly, there is no photo attached to the app, this means that anyone could grab a screenshot of one and misuse.
Other big miss, is not being able to add to apple wallet. Especially when it’s not possible to get a signal in a store.
There is also a constant issue with logging in, basically the Face ID us pointless as the app makes you log in anyway.

I initially rated this app 5 stars as some of the discounts are great, but there are so many issues Blue Light needs to sort out in the back end.
1) I know plenty of people who have struggled to renew their cards
2) I encouraged a local restaurant owner and friend to add his business to blue light which he did. His business appeared on blue light (kind of). He was able to log in. But I couldn’t search the business by name only location. When raised with blue light, he was advised the application was rejected. No explanation why. Just told to apply again. A local small business offering 20% off to blue light members was rejected without explanation.
3). I raised a ticket about the previous about being unable to find the business by name and only location. I could view the ticket in the app and received an email to confirm the ticket. Now it’s gone.

I’m a foster carer and often in the past we’ve been overlooked when it comes to public sector discounts, I’m so pleased that the Blue Light card is available to us.
I know a lot of people think that foster carers get a good allowance for what they do but as a single foster carer with three teenage boys I can tell you I often dip into my personal bank account to make sure these lads have what they need and want.
The Blue Light card and therefore the generosity of retailers have made life much easier for me to do my job properly, I’m especially grateful for the savings at the food retailers during this cost of living crisis because believe me we’ve had no additional help from the government.
Blue Light card has saved me a tidy amount that I’ve been able to put towards the extra little things that always come along.

I feel the deals are misleading and not worth
The value. As it’s only few pennies off.
I haven’t really used the card much as I’ve never found a deal with buying. Those gifts cards are most definitely not worth the value. I feel the very least it should be more than 20% off anything less its not great. Even when you go to some shops they don’t recognise the Bluelight offers. I suppose the cinema ones are slightly better, but not much difference to full price. So overall I am not that impressed.

I found renewing my blue light card very stressful! Several attempts made via the app to inform them I am now retired.. nobody to talk to just reply’s saying my ID was not valid? Eventually I have had a reply saying I have been excepted & a new card is on its way, not arrived as yet!
Needs to make a retired NHS worker renewal more simple, especially as i have had a blue light card for a very long time! Which surely they can see that I am eligible.

I spent ages over 2 days trying to get assistance to link the physical card I received on renewal to my app. Updated my app as suggested but still doesn’t update new card. I can’t therefore get codes online. No direct email to contact them and live chat just cuts you off 5 minutes before you get to first in queue. There is an address you can write to but that will obviously take days.

I remember when I first signed up it was a real struggle to get verified but it did eventually work.
My issue at the minute is that when I go to look at notifications in the app and then come out, the app then has loads of notifications on my Home Screen, so will say for example 20 in red. The only way to get rid of this is to individually go in and look at every notification. If I click on clear all then it doesn’t work. It’s really annoying and makes me not want to open the app.

The Blue Light Card is very affordable for £5 for 2 years and I decided to subscribe after being recommended by numerous friends. The discounts offered are simply the best I’ve seen - the only app where I can honestly say this has saved me thousands and I like the ease of redeeming rewards - wether online or in-store. My only two requests to improve the app is that the ‘Add to Savings’ feature doesn’t work (it will allow you to enter data but when you go to Savings it shows no data) and that there is no Apple Wallet function - although easily sorted using Stocard. It’s also good to note some retailers offer discount for Blue Light/NHS even if they don’t display it, so always best to ask.

The number of times I’ve missed out on losing this card due to lack of phone signal is crazy. It would be a simple fix, as others have mentioned, to add apple wallet functionality so we always have access to our card without having to access it on the app. My phone will offload the app if I haven’t used it recently and can’t re-download without Wi-Fi or 3/4/5g, need apple wallet for this. Due to this I am yet to use the card successfully so haven’t made any savings!
The notifications are also irritating, as the number doesn’t disappear when deleted.
I see people have already mentioned these points though, and no changes made so I won’t hold my breath.

Tried to apply for this twice sending in the ID as per the accepted ID list. First time sent in proof of service it was declined as too blurry, checked this myself and could be read perfectly fine, maybe the person checking needs glasses. Second time sent in pension letter and this was declined due to name not on document, my name and address was on the document along with the pension provider. Both times paid the required fee and now have to wait a week to get that back. I think you need to get more competent people in to carry out the checking process instead of just declining everything because they can’t be bothered.
Good to see that immigrants can get theirs sorted though. Just sums this country up

When you have no signal which happens at some places in the U.K. we’ve visited the app won’t open so can’t show the bluelight card. Very poor implementation.
Face ID STILL also nightmare. They don’t even understand how it’s meant to work. It’s a mess. No point in using it as you open the app and still need to click a button to open log into the app. Absolute joke! That’s not how Face ID log in works in all other apps. With other apps I open the app from the homescreen and it automatically logs me in/opens the app. That’s how FaceID is supposed to work 🤦‍♂️ Also would be nice to add bluelight card to the apple wallet to save all the messing around especially when no signal is available like mentioned in first paragraph above.

Really, no Apple wallet support?? I’ve got to unlock my phone, find and load the app then fiddle with the ridiculous interface to get my card to show like some kind of cave person. Honestly, you need to get with the times.
On top of this, the vast majority of the offers can be obtained without paying for blue light card, offers are with retailers that are over charging for products in the first place, 2 mins with Google will get you the product at the same discount or more in a lot of instances. I’ve not found a single retailer that wouldn’t give me the same discount for showing my staff ID 🤷‍♂️
The whole thing is a bit of a scam, let’s face it, they’re not doing it for the love of the NHS, it’s a business that makes a profit.

Response to tickets is extremely slow, to the point where you forget what you raised an issue for by the time you get a reply.
If your extremely busy due to the high numbers of tickets, then maybe get the site overhauled to fix the issues and this would kill two birds with one stone?
Recently finding links to offers don’t work, or can’t access them as I have to many offers in the vault (can’t find an option to delete these, and didn’t know we had a limit on the number of offers we could open).

It can be quite misleading using this app. Discounts are advertised at face value e.g. 20% off at (Insert name of retailer here) but when you present your card at the till, you will be informed that they do not accept this card without first registering it with their own app. This is often too much hassle to complete at the time of purchase with a Q of people standing behind you. Considering you pay £4 to subscribe to a BL card I wouldn’t automatically expect this extra step is required, it’s more likely just another way reatailers can obtain your contact details and send you unwanted advertising.
Check the T&Cs, if the the deal isn’t as good as it looks.

Well I’m not happy, card needed renewing, done this - had an email to say there is a delay in cards being processed and posted but I can use the app. The app won’t let me login as it says my email has not been verified. It’s Christmas and the saving available would have been a big help but can’t get it sorted as there is not direct contact number available and the FAQ doesn’t seem to be giving any helpful prompts. Needs resolving ASAP.

I applied for my card Being a veteran I took a photo of my army pension form and driving license and sent it via the app 2 days later got approved and now waiting for my card Hopefully it will come shortly So all in all good service
Just to update this review It does say that after payment my blue light card should be sent out within 7 days But I have now been waiting since the 4th November so I would appreciate it if I can get it before Xmas Fingers crossed

Staff of public facing organisations in the NHS and other service professions have historically received good will discounts from the kindness of shopkeepers. This is based on showing a staff ID or other evidence of being employed at the NHS. This commercial organisation creating an additional barrier and profiting from this function strikes me as objectionable. It is commodifying the goodwill that sometimes makes working in public sector professions such as the NHS feel worthwhile. I expect the next step is being charged by a middle manager to receive thank you cards from patients.
Most shop assistants thankfully do not care, and would accept my staff ID without further need for the blue light card charade. I have only met one person who has decided, despite my staff ID and multiple forms of evidence that I am a doctor and employed in the NHS, continues to require the blue light card as well. This person was not the most pleasant encounter I have had whilst shopping; going through a prolonged authorisation process to tell me that I am a doctor, and I work in the NHS, feels much the same as this encounter.

This card saves so much money for a £5 outlay, I have kept a record of my savings in 13 months a whopping £215. The APP gives you a massive list of places to save, car hire, flowers delivered, sports wear and attractions are where I have made great savings. You need the APP to keep on top of offers and you need to check it regularly if you like a bargain

After keeping the phone alive for over 30 minutes, when you get though to an agent, the app decides it’s time to timeout. Wasted good portion the afternoon keeping it alive for it to drop and then the agent closed off the original ticket that had no response for 2 weeks.
Pointless offering codes if they don’t work and then providing no support to deal with it. Will be deleting the app soon as my location data is more valuable to me than the discounts that you offer and don’t work anyway.

I submitted my payslip and paid the fee, after a few days nothing so eventually after over an hour wait I got through to someone via we chat who approved it and said it will now get sent off for positing, this was well over a week ago and STILL processing. I opened a ticket and got a generic response from a bot. I had another ticket from more than a week ago that’s still not been looked at so I don’t hold much hope for this card ever coming my way. Ridiculous how there hardly is any customer service and no one to get back.

I have this app on both my iPhone and iPad and have used it for a few years now.
I have the same problem on both devices in as much as it intermittently (more often than not) shows error messages when logging in. Usually remedied by swiping the app closed and trying again a couple of times.
Only other gripe is the inability to use the app in landscape mode. 1st world problems but make it a bit of a faff to use whilst charging devices.

Brilliant discounts. I have saved hundreds, maybe even thousands of pounds already! Some fantastic deals and offers. Thank you so much blue light card! We are able to enjoy goods and services, that ordinarily we may not have purchased. The app is pretty clear and easy to use, other than occasional ‘vault’ issues. Nearly perfect.

So as an army veteran I applied to join. The instructions simply said pay the fee, which I did and provide a payslip which I did. This was of my current role. The system does not say what you need to provide if you are ex forces (So no acces to military ID or military payslip) there is no other info in the process.
The money came out of my account straight away. However the payslip failed validation.
Here I am a month later after multiple tickets and no response.
The system is quick enough to take your money, but not sort out validation issues. Your money should not leave your account until you have been validated, that’s wrong!!!!
If you don’t meet the criteria then t that’s fine however, you can’t even get a refund as there is no mechanism for that either. So I have basically paid for nothing.
Looking at the reviews now I can see I’m not the first either…..Shameful!!

Notifications are frustrating!

I switched notifications off however I still get the red dot indicating notifications in the app.
I personally hate having notifications and have to clear them as they get on my nerves including the red dot.
These notifications are frustrating as you swipe to delete then a box pops up asking you if you’re sure you want to delete for every notification.
I’ve started giving up but usually when I check the app I have over 15 notifications to be cleared. This takes a lot longer than it needs to, and you should be able to delete either via a swipe or by ticking numerous ones and deleting them all in one go.
Otherwise the app works well, sign up was easy, I’ve had no issues logging in.
I’ve not had to contact support at any point so I can’t comment on them.

Never really bothered in getting myself a Blue Light Card. It was only one day when a college applied and I followed suit.
I have it in my wallet just behind my debit cards so that I always see it. My first purchased saved me more money than the fee for the Blue Card and I surprised on how many retailers take it.
Now wouldn’t be with out it must have saved me £80+ I’ve only had it a few months. Well pleased

Not worth the hassle

The strings you have to pull and the time it takes for support to action this, it just isn’t worth it.
You have to pay upfront but can’t use it until they check your details. They are in no rush to do this and can take 14 days.
Then they come back saying the thing we asked for, which is the thing you sent, isn’t suitable so you raise a ticket and guess what, another 14 days to respond!
A 10% discount is not worth the years stress takes off your life trying to get that 10% discount.
You need a better support system, and a more simplistic verification process.
You use a much better validation system on your tickets website You send an email to a work email address which has a link to validate you straight away, so why not use that system here?
I hope the card starts from the date it is finally given, and not the date you apply for it, because that would just be the icing on the cake. You lose a month before it can even be used!

Signed up for a card AT THE SAME TIME as a colleague. We both paid £4.99 and we both received an email saying our account had been created. We each uploaded a copy of our most recent payslip. My colleague’s account was approved, but mine was not. I tried again, but this time I also uploaded my ID badge as well as a payslip. Refused again. Since then, I have tried about 8 times with no success. There is no easy way to contact them. No contact number. You have to send an email and await a response, which has yet to arrive. I first sent an email on the 23rd March. After more than 2 weeks I sent another one. Still waiting for a reply. I cannot understand why my colleague was approved immediately, yet I wasn’t. We do the same job, at the same place. What’s more annoying is that I have paid for the card and cannot see any way to get a refund as they are not responding to me. The irony that the card is there to help key workers, yet where is the help?! Wish I hadn’t bothered.

In all my years, I have never paid for something and not have it work. I applied a couple of weeks ago (paid at the same time) and 10 days ago had my application approved. Great. Good start. However, it all goes downhill from here - could not login and was told to contact a member of staff.
OK. I emailed their customer service. Quick reply from them, great. They asked for my date of joining, which I found weird - having received an email saying my application was approved - nevertheless I emailed them back with the requested information. No reply. 1 week later I email again and still no reply. Been 10 days now with no replies or explanation about why my account isn’t letting me login. Won’t even let me reset my password. How weird. Will be disputing it with the bank if it isn’t sorted in the next few days.

I work at a NHS Covid Test and Trace centre and BLC was recommended to me and my colleagues as we are front line key workers hoping to benefit from the discounts. Myself and a few others were refused saying we don’t qualify, however other colleagues were successful and are using their BLC. I was told they was awarded in error but are still using their card.
I can see BLC rules, however I can’t see an issue of awarding Test and Trace assistants a card and maybe validate it for maybe one year until the pandemic eases. Just a thought.

Subscribed to this in September uploaded Id and paid for card. Received card few days later. Used it twice on my 3rd attempt to use it it was invalid. Have made contact 3 times now and never get a reply. Whole point of getting it was to save some money at Christmas. Last contact was made on 19th November still awaiting a response.

I sent my works ID stating My role, the company, my photo and my Payroll number, this was rejected saying “it does not state you role” they then locked my out of the site, I raised a support ticket and 4 weeks later no reply, so I signed up again and sent my Payslip, this was also rejected despite showing the company, name, payroll details, NINO etc.
Just a pretty appalling experience for a key worker. Most of whom are busy, seems they are just incapable or understaffed or both. If they don’t provide a number to call, they need to do better to respond. They should ask for payslip and ID card at the start if they want both.

Hi great app for blue card users. However is there an option to have the card and be able to use it in the wallet on Apple? It would be handy so it’s easily accessible. I find I’ve got to hunt for the card in my app to show anyone. Not sure if this is because my card has just been posted or if it’s maybe still waiting to be updated on the app.

Have been a member of NHS staff for 30 years and now through Blue Light Card getting rewards in discounts. So far have used it in trip to family day to Alton Towers which was amazing only Blue light holders attending, so no queues 😁😁. And then to buy a new computer what a saving that was Thankyou Apple
However at the moment due to issues with selfish people pretending to be NHS staff I can’t even read my notifications latest news or even see what I am typing today 😱

Absolutely astounded at the lack of understanding of the people processing applications. If unsuccessful you just get a standard message stating that you should reapply and look at the FAQ’s for types of ID. I uploaded a copy of my service pension monthly statement as per requirements only to receive the same standard response about 5 times. Despite me telling them that I am a veteran that retired in 2006, therefore, can’t send a photocopy of my ID nor pay statement valid within the last 3 months because I have neither. Nor a copy of my discharge paperwork. As the only way to contact them is via email the conversation is never clarified. “What have I done wrong?” Ridiculous. You need an alternative way of contacting yourselves otherwise I won’t be a unique case with respect to the application process

I sent this company 2 lots of identification, my works address AND a copy of my wage slip. Everything I sent clarifies that I am eligible for a card. I paid the fee and they keep asking for more evidence. When they asked for a copy of my CONTRACT, I asked for a refund. I have now sent 4 emails asking for a refund and they just respond by asking for more evidence. This has gone on for over 6 weeks now. I had to raise a dispute with the bank and the bank refunded me as I sent them copies of the communication with this atrocious company. Looking at their reviews on other sites, they are renowned for this and some shops know nothing about this card which makes it embarrassing when you try to use it. AVOID.

I recently changed my email address associated with my card. After that, when I went to account profile then Blue Light Card, I get a message ‘Buy Your Card’. I have a card which doesn’t expire until Mark 2024 and it’s only started doing this when I changed my email address.
I contacted BLC 6 days ago and they haven’t bothered getting back to me. A good idea very poorly executed. I’m very disappointed with the lack of support and the technical issue which meant that when I changed my email address, I was no longer able to use my card and they still haven’t sorted in out.
So now I can’t get my Vue Cinema tickets.

I am always dubious of offers or reductions, but my BlueLightCard has proved invaluable and has already saved me £100s of pounds.
A friend recommended the card as I have just bought a house in need of work. So far I have bought egiftcards for John Lewis (3% off) and Currys (6.5%) to buy 3 kitchen items, this was surprisingly easy. A further 2 items were purchased from Hotpoint with 20% off.
I would highly recommend the card and discounts.
Don’t be afraid of the Edenred vouchers they’re very easy to purchase and use.👍🏻

We’ve been using the card for a couple of months and have enjoyed finding outlets which accept it and, even more, the savings we’ve made from buying things we would have anyway but now get the discount.

Have been very useful but keeps throwing me out when using the searching by location facility. Also doesn’t seem to find many places I’m searching for so you have to go up a level when searching so you need an idea of town/ city to area and if you don’t then it casts the net a bit wider and returns more results. Not always helpful and then this causes the crash. Also there are a load of companies which I’ve never heard of and you could do with forcing a lot more of the bigger companies to start being generous.

I have had the BLC for about 3/4yrs now and like any discount type card available for different groups I was sceptical but it is worth its weight in gold and some. I must have saved over £300 on just hotels with it, not to mention electricals, airport parking, house hold appliances. You name it, it is here. Just last week I saved over £120 with a 20% offer on washer, dryer and cooker hood. Awesome card to have. Get one and reap the rewards.

Absolute nightmare ! You cannot contact the company by telephone, I and am sick and tired of e mailing them ,they take a week, a fortnight to reply, my card simply does not work Online, it asks me to activate or buy a card whenever I try to use it, when I do get sporadic replies from the company they tell me my card is activated and I can download vouchers for the cinema etc, I can’t ! When I go to the members section to look at my card details it tells me to buy a card - I have !! What’s the point ? I’ve begged, I've sent e mail after e mail, I’ve left my telephone number all to no avail, how do you get this company to sort out a problem ???

Just installed app on ios and allowed notifications. The next day there are sixteen and I am not interested in most of them, but no option to easily clear. You have to open each one individually to clear them and I'm not having that every day, so I've turned APP notification permission back to OFF.
App allows you to check for discount availability and displays your card details well so still useful. But could be better...
PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING NOTIFICATIONS EASIER TO CLEAR!

Can’t seem to make this app work for me , downloaded with no problems but when I go to log in , I just get the message password incorrect.
I have no problems logging in with the same password on the actual site , have reset my password and deleted and reinstalled the app with no luck .. am I doing anything wrong ? Please help

Now I think the blue light card application is very good on the apple phones and it is very useful as well, as there are quite a few places where one can save money. Lastly, I thank the blue light team for creating the application or whichever person created the application as this card has really made a difference in my life so far and I am going to be saving more money in future I believe....
