Useless

Once destinations, dates and times are selected it just spins around (loading endlessly!!). Then you turn it off and restart and same thing happens over and over and over again!!! Not an issue with the internet or phone!! Go to their website and it’s smoother. Deleting this rubbish app, it serves no purpose!!

Love the company & app

Basically you will have to work hard to find fault with this app. You can buy tickets, store them & charge your phone on the coach. The drivers are great, communication second to none & stations well maintained. Not only the app but the product can not be matched by any other

Confusing

Firstly- nowhere on the app’s ticket does it mention your seat reservation. To access that, you have to find your confirmation email and hunt for that- no at all convenient.
Secondly- this information is also not mentioned on the Apple Wallet ticket- another annoyance.
Thirdly- when paying via PayPal, the amount of web redirections caused the app to get very confused and give the impression the ticket purchased had not gone through, though my email told me otherwise. I can’t imagine the confusion this would cause.

National Express is Anti-cycling

Despite their bike policy and what their staff on the ground tell you, taking your bike on National Express is a gamble and depending on the mood of driver, he/she have to power to refuse you on the spot. This is the third now for me now. Take the train and spare yourself the frustrations.

Pathetic

Which century this coming is living in like stone ages. Don’t offer ticket amendment feature in their app and you must call 📞 and wait in queue for hours to talk and make changes to your ticket. Plus they will charge £5.00 admin fee which is ridiculous, no other coming does this and changing ticket is free and can do it from app. But National Express is the most horrible.
Services on buses aren’t good either, toilet don’t have hand wash and no tissues and smells horrible.

Brilliant Service

We are first time using the National Express coach. We travelled on the Wednesday 27th to the 30th July. We had a fantastic journey to our destination and home again. There was small change of coach, due to a problem, they resolved this very quickly when we arrived to the destination. We are very pleased and happy to use National Express Coaches. Fantastic prices and travel.

The only feature of this app from the list above that that kinda works on this app is the coach tracker.
If you try to retrieve a booking, move a ticket to I wallet or make a booking all you get is a error message. This app is more unreliable than the National Express website.
Come on National Express sort your IT out. Especially when it comes to retrieving and amending bookings.

It’s unfortunate that this app makes you log in every time you make a booking adding to the time taken to make the booking. It could be greatly improved by adding Face ID or fingerprint ID for logging in. It also won’t give you the option for Apple Pay, making you type in your card details before every booking.

Where are Seat booking nos?

Great app. However I cannot find where it says the seat numbers we have booked.
Recently other passengers were sat in our seats and point blank refused to move. Luckily I had printed our tickets too so could show them and the driver. They still refused to move but customer services have us another free journey.
For future use I would like to be able to show the seat nos. on the ap. Thank you!

Avoid - Unreliable

They cancelled my 8 am couch at midnight before the journey without giving any details. They only tell you you can take the "next bus" without telling when that next bus is. If I had not called and learned that their next bus is 2.5 hours later then mine, I would have missed my flight.

Confusing and unhelpful

The app won’t find the stop I need even though it’s literally a train station interchange and I’m typing in the exact name of the stop available on the website, it just doesn’t come up as an option. The app is also poorly designed when trying to plan a journey from the stops it can miraculously find, it just isn’t user friendly at all if you compare it to stagecoach or Trainline. I only use national express because they’re on my uni campus and my only choice for travel, I definitely wouldn’t choose too. It’s ridiculous that I have to plan journeys using apple maps because their app is so useless.

Booking doesn’t update when changes are made

National Express changed the journey times but the booking doesn’t update on the app. The new booking times can be retrieved if booking ref and email are entered, but this info is all lost when you sign out. You cannot delete the incorrect booking info. Why doesn’t the app update with new booking times?

Very substandard, badly needs urgent improvement.

Truly horrendous app experience: clunky, full of malfunctions, overcrowded with pesky popups trying to sell you useless additions, and very user-unfriendly. You have to key in your journey details twice: once you’re done with picking everything you need, it takes you to another interface where you have to do it all over again. When you pick departure time, an error message pops up only to disappear when you pick the same departure time again. The app doesn’t remember your login details, so you have to punch in the password every time you use it. It feels like no one has ever checked how the app works on the customer side.Very, very substandard app for such a major company.
As for the coaches, they are really nice, often comfier than the flight. However, I have two complaints.
Firstly, the Wi-Fi never ever works, you should stop advertising that you offer it at all.
Secondly, some Eastern European drivers really need to know how to work and behave themselves in a First World country. National Express should really invest in crash courses in basic manners and proper customer service attitude for them.

Terrible app

Previously, everything was fine. Now it is not possible to buy a ticket, does not correctly show the departure time of the bus , constantly overloads, when with some obstacles you manage to get to before you need to pay for the ticket , withdraws money , but does not buy the ticket , writes that an error. And this has been repeated many times. Please ask the developers of this program to fix the problem or remove it from the Appstore altogether if it doesn't work.

I have read the other reviews and I have had no problem with this app. I find booking the trip easy (but the same with all websites/apps, you need to check the details before submitting) and the email is received quickly (goes in to Junk Mail). I download the ticket to Apple Wallet so is quick and easy to find when boarding the coach. I have found the coach tracker works well. The free booking fee when signed in to my account is another plus, overall a good and useful app.

Money lost / help button doesn’t work

I tried to book a ticket and the app took payment for the ticket, but when it came to giving my email so that I could receive the ticket, it wouldn’t let me submit the form so I was out of the money for the ticket and it wouldn’t give me the ticket. For some reason I decided to try again thinking the error was my fault and the same thing happened. So now I’m out the money for two tickets without actually having one. I tried to go to the complaints section on the app and it took me to a chat bot that didn’t work properly and any time I said anything, it would say it didn’t understand and then give me a list of options. One of the options was complain so I tried to click that option and the button didn’t work.

Doesn’t display seat reserved

I like it (other than when it crashes), the thing that annoys me is it doesn’t display your seat number if you’ve reserved a seat, so I always end up having to flick back to my email ticket anyway, which sort of defeats the point of adding it to the app so that everything is in one place. Really hope national express add this to their next update.

The update is poor

Used to love this app until they updated it and changed booking journey. I use this two or three times a week, and regular I have issues logging in (you have to manually log in every time you book a ticket even if using multiple times a week), no bio metrics, my address is always wrong despite regularly updating to my correct address. There constant pop ups to sell you extras, which you can easily end up clicking by mistake. It’s sporadic if your booking actually ends up in ‘my tickets’ section. Should revert to the older version of the app, much better customer journey

This is an absolutely useless app

I strongly advise you to not download this app, nor use this service.
I am a university student who booked a coach to London a few days ago.
National express didn’t send me my tickets and then in an unprofessional manner tell me That it’s my fault that I don’t have the tickets.
To further add to my disappointment of this service, the coach drivers are extremely rude and honestly have no clue about the booking process. He told me that apparently PayPal wasn’t a valid option of payment, when I literally paid on their very own app with PayPal.
Truly disappointed and I hope anyone reading this takes my advice

Waste of time. Totally useless

Useless app. You have to type in your coachcard details on the first screen, only to then have to type in the same details on the following screen. I log into my account, rather than a guest... but for what? I have to type in my address and phone number details every time — there’s no time saved in being a registered user. The payment screen is buggy and unreliable. On more than one occasion I’ve bought a ticket, my card has been debited, and then I get an error message saying there’s been a problem (no ticket showing in the app, no confirmation email... just the money gone from my account). Unbelievably awful.

Misleading advertising and booking fee

As many have noted there’s a £1 booking fee for every time you use this app.
On completion of the booking there is an incredibly confusing and deliberately misleading advertisement that invites you to save money on your next booking. This is a crooked con. Read the small print which entails a monthly subscription.
This app is not user friendly it targets the old and vulnerable to these IT blatant scams. A disgrace that any company would wish to be associated with conning their clients.

Terrible app

Went through the whole process of purchasing a ticket for a friend who is in flight and unable to purchase her own ticket. Have no idea if process was completed as page just closed. Now out of hours, so I cannot call and obviously cannot see the payment on my card.
My other problem is that after the first go and been quoted £25.?? And when I went back to go through the whole process again the price of the ticket had increased to £35.?? Not acceptable

Frustrating

I downloaded this to have easy access to the transfer coach - Heathrow to Gatwick. My experience twice now has been filled with frustration entering my requirements and details two or even three times before being able to progress through the planning and booking process. It wouldn’t recognise my mobile so I received an email - OK. Also I could not establish a facility to add my tickets to my Apple Wallet.
Definitely not the smoothest or efficient apps I have used. There’s definitely room for improvement.

Unreliable app, retry error retry ...

Tried booking a ticket.
- for few hours I was getting error 400 from the backend
- PayPal window hangs indefinitely its impossible to pay using this option
- the card transaction page is a web page and has messages about “don’t press the back button” - however we are in the app and not a browser
- the above UI is from the desktop web page it’s from the 90s and has microscopic input fields and buttons for the screen of the smart phone

App issues

I just got the app as I’m using a coach to get to the airport. But you can’t download your e-ticket. You can access it using the app but you need to enter ticket number and email address, which is only mildly annoying when I’m at home with WiFi. Guessing it’s a different level when I can’t get WiFi and need to present it.
True I can take a screenshot, but that doesn’t show the whole ticket (name, times, dates etc). Surely it’s not too much to ask, especially considering the app saves your planned journeys off line.

Great app

I use this app to book all my travel to visit family. It’s so easy to use and the fact that you can track your coach is so hardy especially when your stop is in the middle of nowhere.
My only issue is that currently when I try to view my ticket in the app it closes the app down. Please get this sorted

Use this app at least once or twice a week. Really easy, track the coach/journey is fab. Just 2 issues - 1 is that you can’t change your booking if you have a changeable ticket which is an issue as some drivers are not amenable when desk is shut! And 2 the £1 charge is unfair. I never use the WiFi as I have my own secure service, so couldn’t comment. Drivers on the whole are friendly however like every work place there is always the exception/jobsworth especially when it comes to driving!
On the whole this is a great app/service and much easier commute for me than the train but there is still room for improvement in app.

Great app

Used this quite a few times to travel between Bournemouth and London. App easy to use and, unlike other reviewers have no problem with £1 booking fee. The cost is so much cheaper than travelling on our highly unsatisfactory train service. Doesn’t take that much longer either! Have never had any problems except once when coach wouldn’t start at Victoria and it took them a while to find mechanic who just used battery charger!

App offers little functionality that the website can’t

The app is OK, but it offers little more than the website can. Things that don’t work or don’t exist:
- coach tracking doesn’t always work, and never seems to work when your coach is delayed,
- no way to process refunds (e.g. when coach is delayed),
- no information or warnings (e.g. for when your coach is delayed), which would be especially helpful since there is little information or help at some coach stations (e.g. London Victoria),
- estimated times of departure are not updated when coaches are delayed.

Good Service and App

The App is fine just take your time with it to get used to it. Rubbish in and the you get rubbish out.
The bus service is also good and I use this service approximately 8 to 10 times a year between Stansted, Heathrow, Colchester and Ipswich.
A special mention for the very professional drivers as they almost always reroute the service to avoid traffic jams but never miss a stop.
I would have given 5 stars but the £10 charge to change a bus in case of early or late arrivals is excessive. The extra cost (if used) puts it above the Stansted car park charge for short trips even taking the cost of fuel into account.

App is good but the extra £1 for every booking is unnecessary

I gave the app 3 stars as I believe that charging an extra £1 for every booking is a daylight robbery. Buying the same ticket from Trainline would not incur this extra charge. What’s not making sense here is that with Trainline you also print a paper ticket which adds to their cost, such as paper, ink, printing machine investment and the running costs of maintenance and electricity. Using this app cuts all that cost to get the ticket and yet we are still paying £1 extra! Yes, it’s robbery, even if you label it as ‘booking fee’ to male you compliant with the laws...the customer is still being overcharged unnecessarily.
The rest of the app so far seems to be working well, bar the obvious required updates which get overlooked every time.

Why oh why do I have to enter my disabled coach card number every time I want to book? Not easily done with bad eyesight... Also why when I have put in the number it says it is a young persons coachcard? Surely if you have apple Wallet support you should have Apple Pay as well? Or at least the facility to store payment card details in an account of some sort? Coach tracker doesn’t work. Also what’s with a booking fee? Why not just build that into the price instead of misleading us? Fortunately I don’t use National Express regularly or I’d be pulling my hair out at it’s user unfriendliness!

Great when your bus is late as you can track it and see what other stop before and after you there are, easy to book.
Wouldn’t travel with anyone else, great prices, free WiFi, an app with movies, charging points and always a comfortable ride, even from the top of the country to the bottom. Travelling frequently all over the country, this is the best and easiest app.

Regular user

I’ve being using national coaches for so long. Coach always being on time but my stop is a resting/dropping stop so that could be why. Even get to drop off early too. I always book on my phone and with an e-ticket. Only problem I have is the onboard service never works and don’t use a pink suitcase mine got covered in what looks like oil as Coach luggage hold is not clean. Plus drivers most are grumpy and a smile costs nothing.

Terrible bunch of drivers, ridiculous services

How do you operate a service and not giving customers the option to complain about your ridiculous services and drivers. Your useless service is consistently late, sometimes 45 mins with no reason. It takes 2 mins to drive from Sophia Gardens to Castle Street, yet stupid drivers would turn up 45 mins late, with no apology or regard to customers. Anyone who has an appointment should avoid this service by all means
Services are appalling. Coaches never leaves or arrives on time. Drivers have no regards for commuters. Customer Service absolute rubbish, you’ll be lucky to get someone to answer your calls after holding on for like an hour. The dumbest app ever. Sort it out

Get your act together

Your app maybe OK but your company communications are the worst I have come across in years. 4 weeks ago I sent a query that was supposed to be responded to in 24 Hrs.... I sent 4 or 5 chasers finally got a response after two weeks apologising for taking so long to respond and telling me that the team hoped my query had been sorted - how arrogant can you get. Four weeks later still no response to answer the query.
On leaving the bus at Heathrow I realised I had left my hat on the bus so filled out a list items form; over a week later no answer.. and you hope I will give you feedback on the app, think again!!!!!!

No support for Apple Pay

It doesn’t make any sense to me that an iPhone app that’s meant to be to buy something doesn’t support Apple Pay, but then you can add your ticket to the wallet app, so the developer knows about the wallet app but decided not to give support for Apple Pay. I’m confused. Otherwise this app works fine and does what it has to do, it’s just that little thing that annoys me so much.

Promise but no delivery

App looks good, but try almost any action and you will be thrown out to the Home Screen (iOS 11). Follow the app support link from the AppStore and you’ll be taken to the national express web microsite which is great for some things, but doesn’t contain any help or contact for problems with the app. Looking back through the previous reviews I fear this may be another cry into the wilderness to which there will be no response. That would be a shame, as the National Express service I used last week was excellent! Come on developers!!

Unreliable

I nearly missed my flight because the coach was late. Traffic is something I understand, however when the coach finally did arrive I was told that even though I had bought a ticket and reserved a space on said coach, that I couldn’t get in because it was over booked. The coach driver called someone and they sent us a taxi, however the taxi was coming from at least twenty minutes away even though there were taxi companies closer and I had a flight in just over an hour. It was a very stressful situation to be in especially as I’m a minor. Also, now the app keeps crashing when I try to track my coach.

Terrible app!

While the cost of taking a coach may be financially cheap the cost of booking one on your time, energy and effort is huge. I’m not sure anyone who works for the national express actually takes their coaches, because if they did, and had to use this app, they’d want it fixed fast. Never before in my life have I accidentally booked the wrong time of transport, not realised until the confirmation email and just had to work around it. Please who ever is designing and building this, load up the trainline app and display your coaches and searches like that. Or Citymapper, or anything, but not what you have now! It’s slow, confusing and unusable! If you want more people to book more coaches this needs to be as easy as possible!

Useful but misleading

I found it easy to import my booking details after buying my tickets on the web. It was disappointing to see that the app was crashing every time I tried exporting the ticket to the Apple Wallet. Worse that was the fact that my return time was incorrectly displayed after my phone automatically adjusted to the time zone of my destination. Luckily I noticed the mistake and ignored the time the app was displaying. I imagine this will cause a lot of people a lot of troubles though!

Great app but with issues

Great and useful app on many levels.
A good way to keep track of your various National Express tickets, book tickets, track coaches and all the useful things related to coach travel.
However, after recent updates, the feature to add tickets to the Apple wallet causes the app to crash!
Also, I’d like to suggest the following things:
1) there should be a feature to allow you to see the actual type of coach assigned to each journey to assess the availability of usb charging points and on-board entertainment; and
2) The on-board entertainment, where available, hasn’t been updated for the last 3-6 months, rendering it obsolete!

BROKEN APP

DON'T use this app!!!! DON'T believe their customer service that their app and website are working properly!!! Their app and website are USELESS!!!
The app and website couldn't find ANY service on a regular route so I obviously couldn't book. Thought this was weird so I checked for ANY service from ANY departure point to ANY destination served from there at ANY time. Neither the app nor the website could yield any results at all. Made it look like National Express have no coaches going anywhere at any time.
Emailed customer services but got corporate lie machine saying everything was just fine. So I phoned round mates in different locations in U.K. & Ireland and asked them to use app if they had iPhone and the website. THEY ALL HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. So just shut up customer services your IT is trash. You can't get through on the phone either.
It'd be quicker to walk.

Unreliable app and Transportation Company

I bought the ticket to Stansted Airport through the app on the day I'm going to travel. It shows that passenger should arrive 10 mins earlier in case the couch comes. However, I wait for one and a half hours still couldn't see the missing couch. Although the app has couch tracking , there is no information, no estimation departure time, no staff around the stop, just nothing at all!! I tried to call for help, but there is no number showing on the app or their website. Also, there are no information telling what is happening on A7 line on their app& website's homepage! Even now I'm writing the review, the GHOST COUCH still not arrive (already 2 hours past), and other passengers and me need to search other way to the airport, because we don't want to miss other flights!!! I think I will NEVER use this app and take National Express in my life. It wastes times and money for no reasons. Just suggest to the people seeing this review, if you want to arrive airport on time, never choice their couches.

Excellent

I’ve always used trains but download this app to give it a go. I’ve just used it to book my first ever coach ticket from Heathrow Airport to my home town for when I arrive home tomorrow; it took 3 minuets and allowed me to pay with PayPal. E-ticket was emailed to me immediately. Very impressed and will be checking this app before the rip off trains in future.

Search ok, payment awful

Searching and finding a ride was easy, the payment experience is a nightmare!
Some pages don’t give you any feedback during the waiting time and sometimes you’ll end on blank pages that tells you nothing and you try to tap randomly or refresh hoping that it works.

Told the transaction didn't go through, charged anyway

I tried to order a coach recently through the national express app. I was told my bank details didn't go through and was offered the option of trying again, which I did- figuring I mistyped, or the internet went down at the wrong moment, or whatever. I tried this a few times, and each time it said payment didn't go through. So I figured the app was broken and booked with someone else. I have checked my bank balance today to discover I was charged 4x for tickets I was told couldn't be processed, and which I never received. This is not ok.

Earlier versions worked well

I can't understand how National Express continue to offer this piece of junk. Earlier versions worked well. The UI and UX if this app now make it not fit for purpose. The failings are too numerous to mention, but it defaults to journeys that are in the past, it's almost impossible to find your coach. She. You do the internal logic kicks you back to the beginning so you need to start all over again. It would help both National Express and its passengers if it employed professionals to write their app, rather than work experience kids.

Wrong notification time

Great app, really quick and easy to use and makes showing my booking to the driver a lot easier with the lockscreen passbook accessibility. Only issue is the notification I receive on the lock screen always say my booking is an hour later than it is which can be confusing.

Only ok, annoying bugs

Can book a coach easily enough, but a very confusing Apple Wallet integration will put me off.
Coach was at 16:30 and the app kept telling me it was at 17:30.
Also, on the actual ticket on my phone, it doesn't actually say the full time of the journey. It says: "16..." and that's it! Very frustrating. The Apple Wallet is years old and every other company had it sorted a long time ago. Shows how dated National Express is.

buggy and unreliable

Firstly after booking ticket, it crashed and wouldn't show in the app. So couldn't add to wallet. Got email notification, but this disappeared from my inbox. Kept asking for ticket number, which of course I didn't have. After about an hour messing around it finally appeared in app. Added to wallet and but the notification showed the wrong time (hour late) meaning more stress making sure I'd booked it right. Overall pretty poor show

So much better!

Before I never used the old version as it was so rubbish. I would book my tickets on mac and that was also such a slow process having to put all your details in each time!! Now the new app is so slick, easy and much faster! Well overdue though!!

Quick, easy and efficient

I was a bit wary changing from the website, to make my coach bookings ... but the app has proven me wrong!
Excellent features such as tracking the location of my coach has made travelling, more of a delight than it already was.

Great app for regular travellers

I use National Express quite often and this app allows me to make quick and easy bookings on the move. The Coach Tracker is a nice feature which shows where my coach is in real time (saves standing in the cold if the coach is delayed) and I can save multiple bookings and call them up on demand when I travel. A great little tool for regular users.

Good if one bug

Allowing me to easily book my coach is great, app works well and feels good. Except for wallet integration, there is an issue with daylights saving causing the time to be one hour out.
As a suggestion it'd also be useful to set up a regular journey and offer this as a booking option, the app can either learn using the users data or allow them to set it up. If I go to my destination every Sunday and come back on Thursday at the same time then why not offer that to me right away?

Wallet notification bug

Finally we can add the boarding pass to the wallet app which is great. However, there seems to be a bug: My bus was scheduled for 7:15 am, but the automatic reminder from the wallet app showed it as "Today at 8:15"! On the pass itself it listed the correct time. Not sure what is causing it (clock and time zone on my phone are correct), but this could cause people to miss their bus if they are not paying close attention to the booked departure time and trust this reminder.
