Great for cars, needs work for big vehicles

I use this daily for work, driving a Renault master LWB van.
It does a great job of optimising my route and offers realistic timings, it does however need a few tweaks to make it really usable when driving a large vehicle.
It would be great if the app could avoid narrow roads or low bridges which are unsuitable for vehicles other than cars etc. This could be achieved with an easily accessed 'alternative route' option at the very least which would also allow for easy navigation around closed roads or traffic jams.
Finally, the option to update roads as permanently closed would be very helpful, but I understand that the app probably relays on external maps which it has no control over.

Motorbike trip

I’m using the app for a motorbike road trip In Spain. I’m using it on an iPhone and listening to the directions on ear phones
It’s got me to all the places I need and I’ve been able to plan some great routes.
It has struggled with the map not been up to date around Valencia but it’s not suppressing considering all the new building work going on here
Highly recommend it for planning a road trip and if you are using audio directions only.

Desperately needs “Avoid Motorways”

I’ve been using this app for a few years and it’s very very good. However, the almost magnetic attraction of motorways drives me crazy. The app will route me to a motorway between 2 waypoints to get on for 1 mile before getting off again. I have to use a lot of waypoints just to avoid the route snapping to the motorway.

Fab routing tool for daytrips

I am using the £14.99 non-subscription inRoute app as a replacement for my Garmin. For some time I have been using Waze as my point-to-point navigator but have kept my Garmin for routing multiple waypoints on countryside trips. With inRoute I just need my phone for this and it works very well. I can plan trips on my iPad and then use the phone for the actual journey. Routes can be saved permanently as gpx files on my laptop, or created on my laptop and imported to my phone.
For future upgrades a speedometer would be good.

Very specific

If you want to swear at an app that annoyingly makes you drag pins around then this is for you. The option to actually write the address you want to go to would be incredibly useful for normal humans. The fact that this won’t even allow that means that it’s defunct for serious use. The hobby cyclist will find it amusing no doubt.

A must for multi drop drivers

If you have lots of drops and unsure what order to do them this app is great. I’ve paid for the in-app upgrades and use it on a daily basis. Great for a visual look on the whole of your route.

Not great

Instructions take far too long to speak and
appear, often appears as you are on top of the junction or roundabout by that time it’s far to late to safely make the manoeuvre.
Thus, not great!!!

Awful entrapment for free trial

I wanted to give the free trial a test but the app forces you to submit payment details for a subscription. Without it the app is completely useless. Considering most satnav apps are free and just as feature packed, I’ll be going elsewhere.

Not up with the best, by far

I’ve been using this App for around two weeks now. I have been very disappointed so far for the following reasons:
1. The route is constantly correcting itself. Essentially, taking me in one direction, and then either giving a ‘make a U-Turn’ instruction, or ‘Return to route where possible’. This is irritating.
2. Turn instructions come far too late; system information is laggy.

Really really worth it

I have been looking for a navigation app like this for years and it’s taken for me to become self employed to find it.
A rough guide for people thinking “oh is this right for me?”
Let’s say you are starting a road trip, you have several places you want to call en route, and you have a fixed point as a destination eg a hotel. You can put the en route points as waypoints and then optimise your route so that you are not tooing and frowing between destinations, it’s brilliant.
All I would like to see in an update, if it’s not there already is to incorporate traffic like google maps does.

Sticking with it but needs a redesign

I normally navigate using Apple Maps on an iPhone, bracketed to the handlebars of my motorcycle, in a waterproof box, so I can't press buttons on the move. This worked OK for a tour of Europe.
However the catch with Maps and Google Maps is that you can't set waypoints, and you can't save and store routes. So I got InRoute for those reasons only.
I have now spent a week or so cursing InRoute and wishing there was something better.
Most of the directions are unreadable on the road. The designer has a weakness for tiny type that can't be read on the handlebars at 40mph. I don't have this problem with Apple Maps. All I can read is 'In 500 yards....' the rest is tiny. It probably says 'take the third exit off the roundabout' but that instruction is in about 6-point.
If you miss a waypoint it doesn't take you back to the route and carry on: it insists that you go back to the waypoint you just missed. It spends the rest of the entire journey directing you back to Waypoint 1. This ridiculous. The only way to stop it is to pull over and re-design the journey.
It can fill half the screen with info you don't need, such as the weather, and I found it hard to get this to go away on the move. If it fails to upload data you don't want anyway, it fills the screen with a label saying 'failed to upload data', making it impossible to see the map. Why is this so big when the nav instructions are so small? So what, go away!
When designing a route, to set a waypoint you 'drop draggable pin'. That pin is not draggable, on an iPhone at least. Trust me, I've tried all kinds of ways to move it. It won't drag. So the only solution is to drop it and hope it hits the road you want. If you zoom right in and put the road centre screen, you won't miss. Otherwise delete the pin and try again. This can take some time at home with a cup of coffee, you don't want to do it by the roadside.
The workaround for the tiny type problem is to upload your route to Apple Maps, and then you will be able to read the much better Apple Maps display. The catch here, is that Apple Maps only recognises the start and end of the journey, no waypoints. This means that my next journey is uploaded as a series of little Apple Maps uploads, one for each stage between waypoints. Each time I pass a waypoint I need to stop and key in an instruction to upload the next Apple Map. There are 17 waypoints and I am going to need to stop 17 times to do this. Good thing I've built in plenty of time.

Version 5.4.1

Not too shabby but could do with a couple of improvements

This app works very well indeed but there are, in my humble opinion, one or two issues.
For reference I'm using this app as a multi-drop driver.
Waypoint Notes could be accessible from the waypoint lists i.e. You don't have to go to the map and click a pin to see notes.
When I'm looking for specific addresses, as the postcode doesn't always get you to the door, once I've entered/driven into that post code the app automatically starts navigating to the next waypoint and often if I happen to pass other way points it will then consider those visited too and there is no going back without reloading the entire route which won't always start from the beginning again.
I would find it very useful to have the option to have the app wait for manual instruction to navigate the subsequent waypoints.
Over all a great app with some great features but I would like to see these additions before considering a higher rating.

Gordon

This is a great nav app - the big plus is the ability for the user to specify the exact route to be followed through clever use of waypoints, and to save these routes for future use. Other nav apps either do not offer this functionality, or insist on changing the user-defined route on retrieval. Couples with detailed assessments on the timings to cover each stage of the desired route, and info on elevation changes and degree of 'curviness' of routes makes it a winner in my view. Brilliant!

Misleading?

The developers should make it clear before purchasing the premium app (at £8.99) that it will not provide the ability to add a COMPLETE route to satnav apps such as TomTom (apparently this only works ok with Navigon). As it stands, it seems a little misleading and I've cancelled my purchase as it doesn't really provide an effective add-on to existing satnavs. As a stand-alone app however, it may be fine, though in effect, I think it will only work offline (without 3G/4G data use) through Navigon.

Very useful app…

I use this app to plan scenic European driving routes and find it really useful. It links well with iPhone but can be a bit of a pain to export routes to dedicated SatNavs, which I prefer to relying on network coverage. It could be a bit more intuitive but I haven't seen anything better.

Pretty good!

Route planning on this app is excellent, interface is slick and I like the extra features such as wind and precipitation plots for the duration of your ride.
Voice navigation is nearly perfect, but I have the (very) occasional reroute which throws it off. 95% of the time it has worked as expected, and I have tested it over roughly 500 miles now. Would be nice to have integration of speed camera alerts if possible.

Almost great

I find this a really useful tool to prepare routes with. Its easy to use and after a little use becomes intuitive. The base maps are very good and the routing accurate. Storing the route to bookmarks makes it easy to share between devices.
Exporting the route to different platforms isn't quite so easy. When I've finished my route, I export it for my riding buddies who have a variety of devices. We're still figuring out which is the best format for each device but we will get there.
For it's price this is unmatched and an app I've been looking for for some time.

You used to be great!

Are use this app for planning business trips of two / three days at a time and have found it to be extremely useful in the past.
The most powerful feature when compared to other similar applications is the ability to add your saved contacts straight into a planned trip.
I am not sure if it is just down to recent updates but I have found recently that when trying to add contacts to saved routes the app just crashes.
I hope this will be resolved soon. If it is then this is a five star app!

Useful

This does some of the things that the main well known lazy/greedy navigator apps don't bother to provide or develop as they rake in the cash. It makes route planning simple and pleasurable. The main flaw is the need to send each leg of trip to your navigator app as you complete the previous one. Annoying (and dangerous) if you've simply marked a waypoint and didn't plan to stop !

Great app

The only thing this app lacks is a 'via' pin option. I ride a motorcycle and like to tour. Having to press on the screen to start the next leg before waypoint pins whilst riding is impossible. It should be one constant flow you can follow from start to finish. Other than that, its a great app! :)
