Description

Explore the majesty of nature in breath-taking 3D with Professor Brian Cox as your personal tour guide.
The follow-up to multi-award winning Wonders of the Universe gives you:
► Over 30 3D creatures and habitats
► Over 2 hours of HD video (wifi connection required for streaming)
► More than 1000 crisply high-res images accompanied by expert commentary
► And it’s all set against a soundtrack that will blow your socks off
► Additional bonus content can be accessed by signing in. (Completely optional! Press "Skip" or "No Thanks" to continue after the Introduction.)
From the vast networks of subterranean freshwater caverns of the Yucatan peninsula to the Great White Sharks haunting the South Neptune Islands, from the Hermit Crabs of Christmas Island to the Red Kangaroo of Western Australia, this app will help you uncover the secrets of life in the most unexpected locations and in the most stunning detail.
Explore the vision of the Kangaroo, the DNA of the Chameleon or the hearing of the Mohave Desert Sand Scorpion in its natural habitat in scintillating 3D detail, delving deep down variously into the detail of microbial life, the inner eye, the second law of thermodynamics, and more.
Along the way you’ll learn how everything on Earth, from the smallest microbe to the largest giraffe, is constructed from the same fundamental building blocks and is subject to the same laws of nature.
Professor Cox and BBC Head of Science Andrew Cohen underpin the experience with over 80 articles delving into intricacies of the natural world and the laws which bind it, alongside over 2 hours of footage from the series and 30 mind-blowing 3D models, all optimised for the iPad’s retina display and set in an interface designed bespoke for IOS 7.
The app seamlessly complements the Wonders of the Universe app (chosen by Apple as one of the best apps of 2012), adding in a tranche of additional information to Brian’s compendium of information on our solar system.

What a incredibly beautiful app. If you are interested in natural history this is a joy. Also a brilliant educational tool for kids. Mind your data though but truly wonderful on its own or as an accompaniment to the to series.

Looks great but needs bug fix

As mentioned by previous reviewer, this is practically unusable on iPhone 6s Plus as only a small part of the screen is used by the app.

both of the wonders apps need a iOS 9 makeover urgently - same problems on new 6s Plus as previously with content only partially filling the screen

Save your money - this app is very disappointing, inaccurate, has little content and is downright insulting at times.

This is still not optimised for iPhone 6 Plus. Given the cost I expect it to be as I use this in classes all the time.

Looks like this version is some sort of debug build release. I get lots of programmer type options about lighting, shading, transforms etc. strange. Please release a bug fix version with all this removed.

Enjoyable

These wonders apps are some of the best available!great content and great presentation! Do yourself a favour and get them! No iPad should be without these!

No video content in the app AT ALL.

Version 1.2
Nothing in the advertising, the product description or the app requirements states it only works if you use wifi to stream the content in. THERE IS NO VIDEO CONTENT IN THE APP!! NOTHING!! It makes it very clear that there is " Over 2 hours of HD video " in the app and for those who can not or do not wish to stream wireless content this is absolutely untrue.
Appalled. Developers put your content IN THE APP!! Complained to William Collins Publs.
EDIT: Polyzoan, what I write is true and admitted by the developers - you need to use wifi to stream the videos which as usual is held on your idevice in a temporary cache which your idevice can and will jettison if another app wants space. From contacting them, the developers have at least now updated the description in line with what I have said to inform people.

Amazing App!

This must be one of the best developed apps on the App Store. I was lucky enough to get it for a reduced price - £1.49 but I would pay double that after seeing the content! Well worth purchasing this if you are a fan of Prof Brian Cox!

Version 1.2
Contrary to the other review, there ISN'T video content in the iPhone version of the app. Perhaps the iPad version has video included in the download but not the phone version. This isn't good for people who don't have a constant wireless connection or a limited data allowance. Very disappointing.

Beautiful app and almost perfect

Version 1.2
Absolutely beautiful app in all aspects. The images and videos are magnificent with interesting information from Brian Cox. The flow of the whole app is so smooth.
The only reason for the 4/5 is the controls are sometimes a bit tricky getting in and out of sections but that's nothing an update can't sort out.
I highly recommend this app.

I don't normally write reviews but this app is just so good and I highly recommend you buy it! Totally worth the money, I am taking my A-Levels at the moment and this does help with my education as a part of wider reading for my subjects. It helps with your understanding of biology, geography and environmental studies.. But mainly biology :)

Very good!

The butterfly on the front is what sold it to me, with a more in depth look at the app, It is brilliant!
Truly insightful and the information is delivered in the most enjoyable way by the eccentric, which is professor Brian cox.
I will say this is an app to download to an iPad opposed to iPhone, the screen is too small to actually take detail away from the diagrams.
But honestly, wow, I am blown away by this app!
It is Investment buy! :D

They need to fix the annoying intro from happening every time you try to navigate the earth - which you can't lol but apart from that it's magic needs definite fine tuning but then so did the show kind of being on track but not going the whole way especially when describing photosynthesis - dudes!!

This app could really be a brilliant app. When I saw this, I downloaded it immediately because of how much I loved Wonders of The Universe. It looks brilliant but it crashes so often. I have a few crashing issues on Wonders of the Universe, but I can't even view the second page. It's so disappointing, really. I'm not deleting this yet, but if it isn't fixed soon, I might.
Such a shame, really.

Brilliantly conceived. Interactive genius. Unlocks the true beauty of this planet, a fantastic educational tool. With the easy, accessible style of Dr Brian Cox this is well worth the price. Will keep you mesmerised for hours.

A good app but not in 3D. To my mind the description 3D means that you can view it in 3D on a 3D television, or on the ipad in 3D with the appropriate glasses. I can find no settings on the app or in settings to switch this facility on. This description is misleading in my opinion. There are other apps that describe themselves as being 3D and are, this one is not.

Version 1.1
The status quo dictates that there are two people on this earth with the silky voice comforting enough to make an annoyed baby fall asleep with the words “Don’t fret, child”. Those two people are Morgan Freeman and Brian Cox. Having purchased “The Wonders of The Universe”, which incidentally also features Mr. Cox, I knew I was in for a treat with this app.
It has now been three solid days and I haven’t slept because this application is so much fun to play around with. My girlfriend has run away and my pet husky has begun eating the couch for sustenance.
Anyway, download the app; it’s brilliant fun!

Wow - love this app. Loads of interesting information (my kids loved discovering the different parts of the world), and the 3D makes the whole exploration thing very immersive. I particularly like how you can zoom form earth orbit down to microscopic level. Great stuff!

I've only just downloaded this app and I'm really impressed. It's got all the best elements from the Wonders of Life TV show but you can navigate it in bite sized pieces. The music and graphics are really beautiful too. I will enjoy exploring it but I will also share with my 11year old niece, it would be useful to have in schools I would imagine. The video of the monarch butterflies is a must-see!
