Subscription Details
SketchUp lets you create and edit 3D models on iPad via an in-app subscription of $119 USD per year. Payment will be charged to your iTunes Account on confirmation of purchase. Your subscription will automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before your subscription expiration date. Your account will be charged $119 USD for renewal within 24-hours prior to your subscription expiration date. You can manage your subscriptions at any time, and/or turn off auto-renew, by visiting your Account Settings after your initial purchase is complete.

So expensive
Sadly there is no longer a free or affordable SketchUp version for hobbyists. Which is frustrating as I have many years of experience invested. Reluctantly, I will be learning FreeCAD for my 3D printing hobby.

THIS TRACKS YOUR DEVICE
I wanted to try it but it kept on asking for my name and email and it is generally trash as well as a specific ‘code’ that wasn’t sent to my email though it said it did 0/10 and it tracks your device like a Wolf tracking it’s pray and it’s d0gsh1te and it takes personal info from you such as you house your age and your device highly recommend to stay away from app

Lack of foresight
Trimble demonstrate a complete lack of foresight by denying casual users of Sketchup any access to a meaningful or useful app.
Paying over £100 for something I might use once or twice a year is not realistic.

Great solution
I needed a quick sketching tool for my work as a surveyor, one that would avoid wasting time measuring and hand sketching but not a full blown CAD package which I have and staff to drive elsewhere in my practice. Ideally, I needed something that integrated into other apps on my iPad, so I can easily share and save sketches for future use and development.
I’ve only just started to learn how to drive sketch-up but the intuitive menu and helpful tutorials make it much easier to familiarise with than other well-known CAD packages I have tried to use in this way.

I can’t even sign up
When I got the app, I tried to sign in by putting in my email as it said, but it kept on refreshing me to the signing page so when I tried with Google it did the same thing, and when I did it with Apple, it did the same thing it wouldn’t let me sign up and it was getting really frustrating. I don’t recommend this app because you can’t create things without signing up let alone you can’t even sign up. I would like to know how to fix this but this is terrible

Infuriatingly bad
Very hard to navigate around your model, crashes all the time and you lose work even if you have saved it. Maddeningly hard to rotate objects. Weird perspective. Horrible, horrible, horrible. I will be asking for a refund.

Poor marketing and false sense of usability, don’t get.
I got this app wanting to draw small things just to help talk about an idea with family only to be greeted with a requirement to create an account, this was annoying but somewhat understandable.
On sign up, I was greeted with being told to actually draw you need to pay monthly.
I feel like they just wanted my email and information.
Also if you don’t know what your doing, good luck as on clicking the icon I assume was help with how to use the app, you are greeted with that it’s a work in progress feature.
How can you use an entirely touchscreen app, that I remind you, you have to pay for to draw, without instructions.

Terribly buggy; don’t bother downloading
If you’re here to complain about not being able to justify the price, then I wouldn’t worry about missing out. This is undoubtedly the slowest, most bug-riddled app I’ve ever downloaded. I have an M1 iPad Pro, so you’d think that would have enough firepower to keep even the most heavy duty apps running, but obviously not.

A nightmare….
I’ve tried for the last two days to get beyond the ‘view only’ version of the app on the iPad.I’ve signed up for the subscription,signed in with Trimble but whatever I do I can’t actually use the app to draw.Incredibly frustrating as when it did work (on the web and for a brief 4 hours on the iPad app) I found it very easy to use and work with.I’ve contacted the help desk but no reply yet.I will try again but usually my problem with drawing apps is using them to work with as most aren’t as intuitive as they should be (procreate is the exception) but with sketch up the real problem is not knowing if it will ever actually load…

I got an email telling me it was finally for ipad and available to all subcriptions. well that was a lie. I assumed it would be like the web version, only letting you use it when online wich is an issue but at least its free so no comment. But it turns out you can just view the models. If i recall you could already do that before so I dont know why they worded their adverstisng like that. otherwise i guess ita good if you are already a subscriber or need to use it on the go but otherwise its completely pointless, sorry.

Was this version tested?

Shame
Used to love this, took a week off work to learn it. That was when it was owned by Google. And you could install it on your desktop. Seems every step has been taken to make it more clunky since Trimble people took the reins, I’m just a casual user so this doesn’t effect me greatly, just sad to see a once great app turned into this. So this iPad version is £108. Or it’s just a viewer… again they don’t seem interested in growing a user base, just $£¥! Short term economics.

Very disappointed
Being retired and on a limited income, I have been using the free desktop version of SketchUp for my comparatively infrequent and wholly hobbyist requirements. I cannot justify the cost of even the cheapest subscription model. I was hoping that the iPad version would offer the same functionality as the free desktop version, albeit with the same limitations, but it seems that it is little more than a viewer unless a subscription is purchased. As such, it is of no use to me and I won’t be installing it.
I’m starting to use Autodesk Fusion 360 for my modelling needs. The free version is naturally “throttled back” from the subscription versions but it still has way more functionality than the free version of SketchUp, albeit with a steeper learning curve (at least for this 73 year old!) so it looks like I’ll be leaving the SketchUp fraternity. There’s no iPad version of Fusion 360 either, so it’s desktop use or nothing.

Latest v6.0.3 update locked me out of app
I purchased SketchUp Viewer many years ago, my friends were impressed with the way I could rotate my drawn projects in 3D on my iPhone and iPad, but now this new v6.0.3 update won’t let me past the “Legal Stuff” page on iPad Air4, I have ☑️ the agreement box and constantly tapped the CONTINUE tab but nothing happens. What is the problem here? v5.5.1 update has prevented me from using this app, it keeps telling me my password is incorrect? If I start changing passwords my desktop SketchUp won’t let me access it?

Great app
Easy to use compared to AutoCad and Revit. Fast drawing for great productivity. The Apple app store only gives a 7 day trial, while direct from Trimble you get a 30 day trial and it is cheaper.

Disappointing
After constantly checking for a general release of SketchUp for iPad for the last year I was disappointed to realise that without a subscription the software is nothing but a glorified model viewer.
I miss the good old days when general users could have free access to the software and you only needed to pay if you were a commercial user. Where Google at the time actually released a program you could download and not the web browser, internet connection requiring desktop version we have today from Trimble.
I used the free version at home to quickly upgrade my skills when using the program at work and to design a few home improvement projects around the house.
Sadly SketchUp has gone down the subscription route, even for general/casual users.
Although I am a Trimble Tekla user I no longer use SketchUp at work. And although I do have a few home improvement projects I was hoping to design using this app, due to the subscription model I think I’ll give it a miss thanks! I’m not that desperate to create a 3D model of my kitchen, not for the price they are asking anyway and especially not for a piece of software that has only just come out of beta.
You would think that companies would want as many people as possible to learn their software in the hope that that would boost commercial sales due to an increased interest. But everyone must pay to play.
Such a let down.

App is great when it works but a model of a relatively modest file size will crash this app within 60 seconds of use. Very frustrating when trying to show people/clients as it constantly needs to be reloaded and steps repeated to get back to where you were, and then it will crash again

Just one small issue
I use Sketchup for woodwork designs, and just load them on my iPhone in the workshop.
I use the distance tool in Sketchup to add dimensions to the model. But when I view it on the iPhone, the font is so small I can’t read it. I usually have to screenshot it and then enlarge it.
If this can be addressed, I’d rate it 5 stars.

This app used to be great however recently it keeps asking me to log in, and on the log in screen (Trimble) you cannot enter your email address because the keyboard doesn’t come up when you touch the box!!

New to 3D modelling
I own a small carpentry business and have started to take on fitted cabinet projects. I have never modelled in 3D but sketchup is so intuitive I have picked up the basics in a few hours and can now design cabinets in a 3D environment that fit perfectly into a customers room and am able to let my customers see how the finished cabinet will look in the customers room

An account to view?!
It’s a shame Trimble have made this require an account just to view sketchup files.
I was hoping this would have been an easy way of sending people models - and just telling them to download the sketchup viewer app - but nobody is going to signup for an account just to view a model for a few minutes.
“Viewing” should be like a pdf viewer. Just download and go.

Frustrating but has potential
Sketchup pro user here. All my files are saved by default to Documents on my Mac, which I’m pretty sure is part of the icloud drive. When I use this app’s search function to locate model files by name, they never appear. When I manually navigated to the appropriate Documents folder, all my models are listed but greyed our as ‘non-openable’ I’m open to the idea that I’ve missed a trick, but first impressions are somewhat frustrating.

It doesn’t download your whole file
I have made a house recently on the chrome tab on my PC and I wanted to view it on my iPad, however this app does not download or let you view your whole file, I believe that it only show you the file up to when you first saved it because it shows you the accurate file size but does not download the whole thing so you can’t see what you have completed... apart from this it would have done exactly what I wanted it to do... I hope this gets fixed in an update! Also for some reason it thinks I live in America not Europe, so it’s been saving my files in an American server...

Excellent app, but it would be helpful if you could build a drop down menu of your favourite actions, instead of having to navigate the side bar options. A few more instructions would also help.

This is a really good app.
For showing clients a very useable and accessible version of their project without lugging my great big laptop around, it is excellent.
I use an iPad Pro which is more than happy with some really quite large models and handles the transitions very smoothly.
A few more tools to change the time between animation scenes or even the ability to press a button on a compatible keyboard to go backwards and forwards to scenes would be the cherry on the cake.
Can’t really fault something like this, especially as it is now free.

Stunning visualisation app
My architect provided me with a skp file with some saved views setup and I downloaded the viewer (I think it’s now free).
This tool has made it so easy for me to show my plans to family, friends and neighbours on both my iPad and my iPhone.
I quickly learnt to use the Orbit tool, how to save views, turn layers on/off, measure, alter a section plain, and use the x-ray face rendering (really cool!).
As my ideas progress, it helps me provide feedback to my architect when we meet and see the results instantly.

Brilliant App, Very smooth experience
Viewer is a great app, it helps me present and analyse my work when I’m not near a computer which can be essential.
The recent updates have brought essential performance improvements, all models I can find now run perfectly on the app with my iPhone 6. The starter project “Dance Center” runs amazingly, the complex polygons used are rendered with ease and the model is a pleasure to view.
Great work on the app, keep the updates coming!

Early days
Now that the app is free we are encouraged to find a use for it. We couldn’t justify the original subscription but now we have the ability to show our models on iPad we might look for further uses for AR. Early days for us but we hope the free model benefits both users and Trimble.

So delighted to get notification of this app, and have spent several hours today exploring various models through the app and learning how best to use it.
Looking forward to showing building proposals to clients and excited to see their responses!
It is vital to use smaller models - one of the ones today was around 22Mb and it seemed to be just too big - would suggest to aim around 8-10Meg.
