NO STARS!!!!! GET THAT ONE ABOVE OFF!!!!

I've been playing Civ games since they first came out with the little counters. Some were great, some even with a world map showing where your units are! This attempt may have potential, except for the constant reminder message always on screen about how to use the two finger jeasture which is most annoying. Can’t find a way to disable it, perhaps they think we have a dumb brain. Surprised no one else has mentioned it. Am I missing something?

I love this, but found a bug

I’ve been working through all leaders/victory types on King level, but whereas I have seemingly completed everything on the leader display when starting the game, the achievements section only records 71/72. This is really disappointing ☹️
Other than that I really love this game.

Really love this game but..

Really love the game as played it on Xbox a long time ago. The only issue i have found is that when you build a workshop it does increase your production, it remains the same. Also, the game crashes when loading save games sometimes. If it wasn’t for these issues, would be 5 star.

Online play discontinued?

I’m a long time Civ VI player, but had played CivRev (original) back in the day and wanted to play against my kids head-to-head. So I bought this and was very disappointed to see a message asking me to connect to the internet access the online play. I’m online and logged in to Game Center… but no good. Any chance of a refund?

Levelling issues

I fully appreciate that, as an app over the real deal game, there are going to to be issues with controlling difficulty settings and the AI responses. But it is pretty frustrating to go from the second tier of difficulty, which is ridiculously easy to win, to third tier where it appears the AI has an endless stream of capital city defenders and somehow they are all superior in points value. Even against lower enemies with lower point scores, I am losing a ridiculous amount of fights. How the merry hell are you suppose to plan a campaign if a lower strength enemy can easily defeat you. It is incredibly frustrating. I am deeply unhappy with the random nightmare that is this game, representing an unholy alliance of the AI being predictably and pointlessly aggressive with a meaningless strength value for units. So unhappy playing this.
Also, every time I have won, pressing the menu button has crashed the app.

Enjoyable way to keep your mind active

An enjoyable strategy game, that is contained enough to be completed in an hour or two. Plenty of challenge at the higher levels, and great variety in the different nationalities.

I want my money back

When you play on the hardest settings, it just glitches out. It took me 2000 years to take a city that seemed to have unlimited archers. I have it surround by 16 units in the end. Armies, fully upgraded. Yet one archer managed to take 14 tank units. I want my money back this is just terrible. Do not buy.

Too many bugs

Frustrating in the extreme. With some civs your units don’t upgrade no matter how many victories they have. Your units repeatedly lose when they are four or five times stronger than their opponents - its not like it happens once or twice, it happens every time with some civs. I’ve deleted the app as its just too frustrating to play when it doesn’t behave in a reasonable way.

Great but tired game

Been playing Civ Rev 2 for around 4 years now. I play on my annual holiday, so normally get stuck into a game or two a day by the pool. My single biggest frustration, is the way that the game randomly decides to end in five turns. I would much prefer to be able to play the game to a complete conclusion and it is actually possible to win the game on all four counts. Technological cultural economic and domination. Game would be much more fun if it were actually possible to see winning a technological victory all the way through to the end and to reach alpha Centauri. But I seem to recollect that from memory I’ve only ever achieved this once. Secondly I find the military aspect to the game frustrating. It’s not possible to see exactly what military units you have bunkered down in your city. Really they need to update the game so that you get more of a sense of how protected your city is. Thirdly when attacking capital city of an enemy there is no real way of knowing whether or not you’re winning fight. In my game today I sent over 20 tanks in to Madrid only to be defeated by the same enemy tank 20 times there one tank literally defeated all 20 of my thanks with no indication as to whether I was wearing them down it’s just feels like corner cutting in terms of the game design.Over although I still give the game five stars because it’s quite a satisfying play and it’s one of the few games on iPhone that you can truly get absorbed in for a couple of hours sitting. I’m going to be trying civilisation six though for slightly more advanced experience.

Surprisingly good on second viewing

I downloaded this years ago and didn’t get into it so I deleted it and forgot about it. After trying out a load of games including Marvel Contest of Champions, Plague, Lost Crusade, Motorsport Manager 2, Fishing Clash and probably a hundred others I remembered I he Civilisation and started playing again. I’m up to the 2* win after a week (both by domination) and I’m realising this will keep me occupied for a long while. It will get a bit old I’m sure but I can see 2-5 months play out of it so we’ll worth the price

GR8 value 4 a superb game!

After being completely disappointed with CIV6 I downloaded this for a merely quarter of the price and reminded myself what it’s like to finish a game for a change. (2K team should leave the CIV6 for free and replace it with this baby!) No bugs no restarts! Keeps you going! Seriously 2K ... £20 for CIV6 and only a fiver for this one?? You should refund everyone who purchased CIV6 tbh...can’t even play the damn thing after turn40...

Map is tiny, game ends to quick and hardly any units or buildings to build. Great for 2-3 games, then it’s really boring. Not worth £5.

Frustrating

I have tried to win but even on the easiest setting the game ai is set too high and after 5 attempts I just can’t win. There are very annoying elements like the religious elements which are unnecessary and stupid.
The barbarian attack later in the game has no warning and they just appear from nowhere in overwhelming force and destroy all the infrastructure I carefully built.
Civilisation 3 was brilliant. CivRev2 is simplistic but good. This is just rubbish!
I will be asking for a refund.

Civ in my pocket

Having grown up with the Civ games, I really wanted to be able to play Civ on the go. This game is fantastic and just what I was looking for. It plays a bit faster than normal Civ PC versions and many things are simplified to help move things along. But the Civ “just one more turn” addiction is here and it’s so good.
Graphics are beautiful and everything has been made just the right size for mobile so it’s easy to read and interact with the UI. You can also customise your game scenarios just like on Civ PC. If you love Civ or Turn based strategy games then get this, you won’t regret it.

An old fave updated and on iPad, so happy

I have played the original Civ Rev since I discovered it on Nintendo DS and thoroughly enjoyed it (got it on Xbox too). The rest of my family plays Civ VI (and it’s earlier incarnations) but I find those too complicated with their massive tech trees/ governments/ religions etc. This is perfect for me, and I LOVE the update... has the feel of Civ VI in the interface without the complexity. The added bonus is the bigger screen than the DS. A few more troop types have been added, plus a few new wonders, so plenty of new things to get to grips with while still knowing what’s going on. This game is a great introduction to the Civilisation games... if you find this too easy on hardest difficulty, then you really should move onto the full Civ VI! This is a step closer to the main Civ games than the original Civ Rev, maybe one day I’ll ‘graduate’ to that, but for now, this gives me hours of fun!

A mini Civ with Big Appeal

Still addictive after all of these years. It’s Civ (Jim) but not as I knew it. Loved playing Civ I & II. The world size is a wee bit small, but it has the benefit of been able to complete a whole game in 4 to 6 hours. The Civs’ are good, for old times sake I would like the Vikings. Graphics are good. The added ‘Achievements’ work very well. Looks like there is a Colonization type scenario? From the screenshot... if so yippee!

Good but still has issues

Downloaded this on my iPad when it came out a while ago, it was great but had some minor issues. The biggest one for me was the fact other civilisations don’t acknowledge each other.
At the time I just assumed it was a new game that still had a couple bugs to figure out, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. But still, 2 or 3 years later, there is still the same issue. There’s been bug fixes in the game, but for some reason this problem hasn’t been addressed?
It’s extra annoying because when you talk to other leaders, they will say “have you visited the Russian capital?” Or something along those lines, but when you ask about another leader, they always say they’ve never met them.
Aside from this, it’s a decent game, but this issue does make the game a bit harder to play.

Ok !

Have played these type of games before.
On the plus there are no in app purchase which is refreshing ! If you have loads of time to kill ?! Fill your boots as this game is great fun
The down side is it is a little tedious ! The moves take too long, I mean I don’t need to see my troops move across the board ! Also some match ups don’t seem right ?. A group of fighter planes against archers ?!

Made me angry

Gameplay compromised by limit on number of turns. Incredibly frustrating. Also AI rubbish so that it’s impossible to besiege cities as even basic level warriors in city can defeat high level stealth bombers! Unrealistic. Lazy programming to fit on smaller platform. Don’t buy.

It’s great!

I recently went on holiday and was looking for a game to pass the time on the flight & any down time at the hotel. I’ve been a fan of the series for a long time & have Civ Rev on Xbox.
This is a great version of the game with new content & leaders. It is clearly an update from the previous game however still plays much the same.
At £5 this was a bargain. I didn’t expect much as it is on mobile but it delivers.
I’ve played a few games to completion, and although a bit fiddly at first, it soon became simple and fun.
I highly recommend it for new and old fans of the series.

Reasonably good game.

It’s a fun conquer the world type game but has some issues. The first one is world size. It’s tiny. Your chance of going more than 10 squares in any direction without meeting another nation is non existent. There is almost no diplomacy. You meet the other nation and that’s it. You can swap some tech, threaten or be threatened and go to war. There is no such thing as an allied victory. Spying is almost useless. You can kidnap great people, steal money or destroy defences which doesn’t do much. There are no options to subvert cities or steal research / units. It’s like a really early test version of the original civilisation which I played on a 286. Could have been so much better.

Great game to relax with

Awesome game, if you like to sit and chill with a pace that suits you then this game is a must. Great improvement from first edition and loads to do.
Mechanics of game work really well even if you don’t know how to play the tutorial explains everything, it has that feel of the original civ games while having the style that is stunning throughout. The level layout is nice and spaced while the running of the game is as smooth as anything.
Overall 5 out of 5 love it, defo worth the £4.99 👍

OK, but interface poorer than version 1

The game is a good version of Civ for the iPad. It’s about right in terms of length, a couple of hours will come to a conclusion. The current Mac version of Civ takes far too long, even on a tiny world.
However, the interface for the original version of Civilization on the iPad was much easier to use and clearer.
Other irritating features:
After discovering Modern Warfare, you lose the ability to build Infantry (you can build Special Forces instead, which is better in attack and can be airlifted, but much poorer in defence), so you cannot build the strongest defensive unit in the game any more. Tanks are your next best option. There’s nothing like Mechanised Infantry in the Mac version.
Some of the trophies are impossible to win, and the challenge to connect all your cities by road never works. After you have connected all the cities the app doesn’t recognise the fact. Also, the challenge to have 3 population in 3 cities doesn’t work if you have more than 3 population in your cities.

Good game .....but not as polished as PS3 version

Really good game for on the go. Used to playing this on my ps3 and although the add-ons would be good on PS3 version what we really need is a civ 6 or better on PS3.

Disappointing

I played the PC original and the civilisation app on iOS. I've tried to like this version. But it's a worthless game. Overly simplified game, irritating game play and frankly not a patch of the first iOS version of Civ Rev 1. That should be re-released with the memory utilisation bug fixed. Now with IOS 12 out, the old civilisation game from 2k is no longer available, I miss the wonderful gameplay that has been lost between the two versions.

Love this game

Brilliant game! It has clearly had a lot of work put into it. It has minor bugs in the midst of it, however they are very small things. I would like to carry on seeing new updates coming out with more control over the random map game where you can have more or less factions to play against. The ai doesn’t seem to recognise any other factions And the diplomacy is basically pointless. Please keep rolling updates out because this game has way more potential than any of us can see. Keep up the good work! 🤗

iOS 11 - but no sound

Really great that it’s been updated for iOS 11, but it wouldn’t go past the loading screen until I uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Since doing that it’s opened normally, but there is no sound! Tried the usual: turned volume on and off, closed and reopened the app, but still nothing.
Take a look at the update 2K, I love this game as a time-killer when travelling and really want to rate it higher.

Too good!

His game is unbelievably good. By far the best turn based strategy game on iOS. It is not the usual ‘free at first then pay to pay’ rubbish - buy this once, play forever. Faster game style than desktop civilisations, great graphics and unique bonus discoveries. Love it. Have played it for at least a couple of hours a week since it’s first release. Now compatible with latest iOS update. Thank you!

Update your app!! It's been 2 years!! 😡

Please update your app. This game cost a premium when I bought it and it hasn't been updated since then!

Civilisation

It's a great game but needs updating. A few bugs, such as sometimes loosing cities when you still have defenders in them. Or defenders scores seem to vary from time to time make it a bit frustrating a times. Also the computer players don't play with a logic that aims at them winning at the top level. For example if one computer player is going to win, no one else will attack them to slow them down or refocus their resourses. Some common sense needs to be added. Otherwise still good to play.

For an iphone 5 it's perfect. Never played a civ game, even though I enjoy strategy games, this is great. I imagine on an iPad it would feel like the game was lacking however for the phone it's 5 star.

A great if very simplified version of the original

Many years ago I adored the original Civilisation game on my PC. Many, many happy hours were spent battling away. Having not played for 15+ years I recently got the urge to do so again and bought Civilisation VI, again for PC. The main game has moved on in terms of complexity and challenge (and computing power: my fan starts running at max within minutes!).
It is with this intro that I recently purchased the iOS version. And I have really enjoyed it. The animations are slick, the stages logical and the variability between different games very good.
I've played three or four games and have found them increasingly challenging as I move up the difficulty levels.
However, there are certain features from the main game that I am dearly missing: killing off a unit; making your only offers to other civilisations, finding out who you are at war with, forming alliances and recommendations for the best place to build a city or which unit to build.
Will I carry in playing? Certainly! Am I hoping for more tweaks and extra layers of complexity? Absolutely.
As an introduction and advert for the main game I think that this iOS version is superb. However, as a standalone item I think it may get boring within 20 games. Both of these outcomes make the price too high. :(

Loved this game since I first played it on pc. Graphics are great and tried and trusted game play won't let you down. However....when trying to collect the trophies it could be vastly improved. Many are fairly easy, some average and rightly so a fair few very time consuming. The problem is one or two are nigh on impossible due to glitches (forums will confirm this) and most annoyingly not knowing who or what is still required. Getting all the great people should require a great deal of thought but it is a bit of a lottery and keeping track of who you have should be built in as per the graphics trophy. Could easily have been a 5 but easy fixes cost a point 😡.

Buggy and annoying

During the game there are regular dialog prompts with 4 options. These most often give you the option to give tech to another player to avoid a war. The problem is that sometimes only one option is ever shown. This could mean that when you are winning a war you have no option but to give your opponent a gift and end the war. There is no workaround.
Added to this annoyance, catapults are useless. There is no bombard option, only attack, this means that the catapult can be easily taken out before ever getting a chance to fire. Mine got taken out by the same archer, I had loads.
I wasted hours today trying different approaches to the game. The dialog bug was the final nail in the coffin. I've requested a refund.
Shame I like the series but this game is just an exercise in frustration.

Really weird?

Ai's won't fight each other so you get all armies against you (needs to be fixed as would be fun to watch them fight). Ability to make nukes whenever ( not an essential fix) able to destroy a city as I was against Rome and they basically ruined my other city's tiles I took them back but then I was left lots of really bad cities and I would like to destroy them ( very essential). Reduce amount of war ai declare

Good but the original was better

I've played this new version on civ on the iPhone for over a week.
At first I wasn't overly convinced as the controls felt clunky and difficult to use. Labels get in the way of you being able to touch units to control them and the inability to zoom out permanently makes it hard to get a better birds eye view for control of the map.
After a week of playing it, unfortunately I still find the same things annoying.
3 stars is probably unfair to rate it as it is such a well put together game concept. However 4 stars is too high as it really is ruined by the lack of accessibility to the units and cities.

It's "ok"...

The graphics are good, but the maps really are too small. Only 4 leaders on the board with no space to grow their civilisations. Given the iPad has more power than the PC's where this game started I was expecting larger maps. Also, the other civilisations don't recognise each other despite being next to each other. Kind of defeats the object of this game, based on previous versions on other platforms. Disappointing. How about online multiplayer?

Good conversion

Pretty spot on for what you might expect from a lite version of an extremely complex game. Fun to play for a couple of minutes at a time but with the classic civ one-more-turn syndrome kicking at you. It's a compromise but a good one. A good conversion that works with the platform. If you want an immersive and complex play then get the computer version but if you want a simpler affair that is fun then go with this (I'm kidding, get both, there is room in your life for both)

Dan

Really good game fun and addictive. But they never seem to meet each other or to attack each other. Also don't like how it has a limited number of turns, cause sometimes when you're really into it the Game has to come to a premature end

One of the best for IOS

I have had this games since it came out on the App Store and this game has many good aspects for new and old Civ players it to simple to play yet still challenging a game is often much quicker then any other Civ games on PC the graphics are good and so is the gameplay but the fact that the AI are not and clever or challenging and the there is no way to dismiss, sell or upgrade outdated units creates a lot of tedious busy work.

Classic lite

This is exactly what you would expect from a classic pc game on the iPad. A decent version that passes the time very easily and a good introduction if you have never played before.
Part of me wishes they would just put out he version 2 instead.
Well worth the money for any strategy fan for the iPad.

Couple of problems

The game is really good, but unlike civ Rev 1 on Xbox 360, civilisations don't acknowledge eachother. 3 countries borders were connected, but when I ask them about world events they say they don't know any civilisations, despite the fact I see their drones near others cities, also they don't appear to be so smart or even have the ability to attack barbarians, and I know that because I saw a barbarian village which I couldn't reach because of enemy civs, but they never attacked it. It isn't a massive deal but it really does ruin the game because no one else goes to war with each other, and I can't bribe them either.

Could have been so much more

This could have been so much more.
I was pleased to find a new version of civ and bought straight away for £7.99. However very little has changed from last version apart from a graphics change. Where are the different map sizes and the create your own world options. Very disappointing poor show you guys.

Give us a real world map

You can't get 5 stars without a real world map. It's all very pretty playing on a random world map, but it all feels a bit... random (and pointless, frankly). It's like you've made all this effort simulating human civilisation, but we may as well be playing on the moon. Come on give us a real world map. Do it as an in-app purchase, if you want to make some money out of it.

Nice simple version of Civ

I have played all versions of Civ and really enjoyed this one. It's quick and fun. It's lovely to be able to play a game in an afternoon :) quite easy though.
Apparently it's not much different from V1 revolution, so I would not bother if you own that.

Civ

A great game for the iPad. Obviously not as detailed or as sophisticated as full PC or MAC versions , but fast game play and a lot of great features. Information screens still need some work , as it can be awkward to get a good overview once you have built a few cities. The combat doesn't differentiate well between land, naval and air units , so that there are few tactical advantages over using one rather than another.

Good but has problems

I will say this is a great iOS game but a bad port there are various bugs that need sorting e.g the ai don't talk or attack each other and when you have build a worthy force skipping through your troops gets annoying as you have to skip through every unit to find the one you want please fix these small issues as this could be something special

A good, but not great conversion

I love this game on PS3 and NDS and this is a good conversion onto iOS, except that it crashes regularly and the volume has no control. It's either on or off. City names also obscure units under the label so they are easily forgotten. Maps are on the small side and gameplay only saves to iCloud. Don't expect to save more than one game at a time because despite having more than one save slot it only saves to one.

M09

It's grand. Has some of the qualities of the classic civ- But it's far too easy. Even on deity it's a cake walk if you know what you're at. The CPU doesn't attack with any great force or conviction even if you set it to all out war or only domination victory. Plus the CPU opponents don't attack each other or even seem to communicate/meet which takes away from the enjoyment. Please create more aggressive computer opponents and a more difficult level. And fix it so that the computer opponents attack and communicate with each other.

THE BEST

CivRev is the best strategy game of all time and now it's on the iOS!!! This iOS version is as good as the console version, would give 6 stars if possible! Very challenging on higher difficulties as well, I was only able to beat king!!!

Decent iOS take on a true classic

Like Sid Meier's Starships, I was disappointed that so many big trade-offs have been made in complexity in order to scale down the concept to an iOS interface that much of the immersiveness has been lost. It's tricky to find any functions above basic point-and-click tasks, and more advanced actions (e.g. sending units to sleep rather than fortify; seeing who you're at war or peace with; creating build queues; seeing an overview of your units or cities without having to cycle through each one) have all been lost. This and a lack of intelligent prompting also means it's easy to leave your units/cities idle for multiple turns. Still a great game in its own right, but fans of the franchise may be disappointed if they were expecting a more comparable port from the original platform.
