I have been using family search for some years now and each year it is getting better. I’ve managed to research so many family on this site. I am now finding my way around the site more easily and compiling the information in an organised way. Just wish there was a place to put family members who I’m not sure about and look at them later to identify if they belong to the family or not or just have a tool to earmark people if I’m not sure and go back to them at a later time. Overall a very good FREE site.

Targeted for being PAGAN/WICCAN
Family Search allowed a user to deliberately sabotage and target my family tree and delete images and documents and harass my emails after asking them to stop. I spent 15 years gathering information and contributed a lot of files to family search along with Scotlands people over the years to give people the information they needed. This is a spiritual attack from a christian stalker who thinks it’s acceptable to do as they please and ruin entries on family search by keep deleting files and the truth. This doesn’t just effect me this effects thousands of others who are linked. Shame on you familysearch for allowing these attacks on your site to continue.

Not iOS friendly anymore
In short, when using the iOS app it continually asked you to update to a newer version, but when you try to do so it won’t let you. You can’t ignore it because it won’t accept any input and the update message comes back again. Somehow it’s gotten itself stuck in a loop.

Latest Update
The latest update has made this unusable on IOS, almost impossible to organise records now. 8 updates in one month is ridiculous; especially when the result is barely usable, how much do you pay your developers? This is awful. The app constantly provides pop ups telling me to update the app but it is already updated to the most recent version possible, I can’t make any research as this pop-up consistently pops up. The information addition screen has changed back to the awful clunky format not seen for years. It’s a massive shame because apart from a few bugs the design was basically perfect, and now it is ruined. After nearly 70,000 contributions, nearly 5,000 photos, and 12,000 new people added I will now sadly look for an alternative. Perhaps a good thing, as any proper early English research here is quickly destroyed by American fantasists, John Smith the English farm labourer quickly becomes Lord John Smith King of Londonshire, a majority of users do not care for the truth and are just looking to plug holes in their diluted mongrel heritage. Once loved but now hated, a tragedy for genealogists.

On those occasions when I have chosen a new password i find that this new password is not accepted.

Finding unknown ancestors
It is easy to find known registered ancestors on known family trees, but when unknown ancestors have not been officially registered it is almost impossible to find out any possible way to find out any link to any ancestors who had a mothers surname.
Is there any link to unknown ancestors who went abroad or arrived here from abroad?

I do find this application awkward to use...it is frustrating that it does not return to where I left off on a previous visit. There is no link between messages of new information on an ancestor and the app. So you spend ages going through the tree. Duplicates are not always found and sometimes incorrect information is entered by a third party.

Wrong additions to Family Tree
I have very much appreciated the invaluable assistance I have hed in researching my family tree
The problem I have is that other contributors are adding people to my tree who are patently not right
This is not a criticism of the other contributors as I am sure they are adding them in good faith because they think a link looks right
As I am on the spot in the country of origin I know just having a name that corresponds does not an ancester make
I have stopped adding to the tree now even though I have many more certified ancesters to add as the tree has become something which is not the truth . I will also not be sharing it with my family for future generations as planned
This is sad as I had plans to upload photographs and memories and it would have been a lovely thing to share and pass on

Difficult to understand what is happening when unknown ancestors appear in place of my own. Hate the fact that anyone else can alter my tree when I have carefully sourced and proved my relationship. I’m going to uninstall it. Too many Americans jumping in and believing their relatives are mine for no apparent reason. Don’t bother if you are English. Americans think their Bristol is the only one in the world. And it isn’t.

Amazing site. I tried years ago to research my family tree but it was so difficult to do. I also couldn’t afford the site fees.
A few weeks ago my granddaughter was asked to draw up her family tree for school homework. I logged onto your site and we couldn’t believe it! We found it so easy and the family so pleased to see the results.

Not perfect but Excellent Free Software
Whilst by no means perfect, and when inputting an ancestor who lives in one country it sometimes gives you a suggested match with a birth of someone on another continent, let alone country, which leaves you wanting to scream in frustration at the computer, “Of course that’s NOT a match”; it is otherwise an excellent free app. Very easy to learn to use. If you get stuck there is free online support and telephone support to explain how to do something too. The suggested records links are great and often match you to census records where the ancestors’ names have been misspelt when transcribed, so you might never have otherwise found them when looking on your own, and in many cases found records for me that I had been searching for for years! It is super easy to add photos, stories and sources, (although there are guidelines to keep it positive and decent, so no scantily clad pics or stories that someone was a wife beater, which I did not know about until I found some photos and stories had been removed) and also very easy to input new family members. You can view your spouses’s tree simply by clicking on them followed by ‘view this tree’, This does need to be further developed to include your spouses genealogy, as you can only see a relationship to you by logging into your spouses’s account, as it doesn’t automatically recognise your husband and mother in law for example and will say ‘you have no direct relation’ to this individual! Love the tool that says ‘view my relationship’, which instantly works out that an individual is your seventh cousin three times removed at the click of a button! Well worth having and using! Not to mention all family search records are backed up in the granite vault in the Mountains of Salt Lake City, so whatever records or information you take the time to upload can be guaranteed to survive for future posterity, which is surely the most important consideration!

Not too bad an ancestry app
Downloaded some time ago and has been helpful, along with other ancestry type apps in retrieving a fair bit of family history. I’ve knocked the star rating somewhat as after the last update it all appeared in a foreign language. Don’t have a clue how this happened. I’ve got the settings on UK. Oh well. Let’s hope the next update remedies this.

Great free app for researching family tree
This is a tremendous app, especially given that it’s free.
Now that the previous issue with incorrect language seems to have been fixed, happy to bump this up to four stars.
Would be even better if more source documents had digitised images so we can check when summary record seems ambiguous (e.g. marriage record showing multiple names for possible spouses), and better functionality to make it easier to keep track of current context within the family tree when checking/ looking for sources (to help avoid leaping to incorrect conclusions).
Even so, it’s still a very good app.

Language has changed since update
Since the recent update the menu items are all in a foreign language even though no other language settings have changed on my phone is still set to English. Please can you fix this as I was enjoying using the app until this error happened in the latest update.
Otherwise I am happy with the app. Please fix this bug!

Instructions are not in English
I have downloaded and deleted this app 3 times on my iPad and each time the instruction tabs are in a very foreign language which is not recognisable to me i.e On opening the app, it says Learn about your family in English however, the blue search bar says Vaqara e dua na Tubumu.......etc.
Now I know that it’s a search bar because of the little magnifier icon, but it carries on underneath. I can’t find a way to change it to English. So I shall delete it for a fourth time and final time.

Amazed
I have been using various tools to build my family tree. I stared using this recently and found it to be fantastic. The amount of records and information found so far is great. Most amazingly its free of charge. I have been paying annually to have access to information and here I was able yo find it seeming less and free. The other app do have more functionalities such as smart searches and discoveries to link with records and other trees for insights into the past. Also the DNA options are available which allows for better in-depth searches. I would love the option to see some of these options come up here. I don’t mind paying for additional features as long as the access to the extensive database continues to be available. One feature yet to see in any of the platforms, is the possibility to request for images to be taken of certain specific records from within the platforms. At present I have to plan to visit certain locations to take such images my self for the records without images or not in the database. Great job guys. Thanks for this and keep it up. Try to minimise its brand commercialisation. Family History has Changed My Life
This has been a real blessing to me and my family. I have waited 30 years to be able to do this work and I am so grateful. The gospel is real and I am looking forward to meeting my extended family beyond the veil.

I love the Memories section which is very useful in learning about individuals. However I always do my own research to verify any new information as there are many people who make spurious family connections.

Accuracy and cooperation
Excellent opportunities to view primary sources free of charge and cooperate with others in compiling accurate family trees. Those taking part are asked to provide sources for the relationships and details they add. As far as possible, the app discourages multiple entries on the Tree for the same person and provides ways to merge them. Contributors can contact each other and if they agree share details of their family connection.

Family Search Tree
Wonderful and best of all it’s free for everyone to use, so easy to share research with family who live all over the world, they can look at what I have found/read stories/ see photos or work on our ancestors together as it’s one tree accessed by everyone. Love the feature to make notes and add discussions.

Preferred parents not recognised
I was enjoying this app until I came across an ancestor with multiple parents. I went to the help and it said that if I set one set of parents as preferred then they would appear in the family tree. Unfortunately this did not happen and the first set in the list continued to be displayed. Am I doing something wrong?

Frustrating
Enjoying the making of the tree, but find it difficult to find out what to do, think I have entered info, but can’t find how to store it. Go back after a break and can’t find out where it all is have to enter it in again. Very frustrating. Also don’t get the chance to put in enter trades and other info.

Awful to use.
I don’t know if it is just me but the app is really awful to use nothing matches. I have ancestors from Ireland in tullamore and it is giving me someone in America with the same name even tho I want to search in Ireland. The records being brought up ain’t for my ancestors. The site is free which is great but I can see why it is free there no planning or leadership gone into the site to make sure it runs properly I would sooner pay on a subscriptions sites like the two major ones and have a system to use that actually works and not a half built site full of flaws. My next step is to sign back up to find my past and delete this app.

Love the familysearch app!
Loving the Familysearch App! I may be 62 but it’s easy to use and quite addictive just as Elder Renlund says! I even love the games and activities but the best part for me is the way it makes it easier to take my ancestors to the Temple. I live seven hours away from our nearest temple in Preston, England, so it’s hard to visit often but I can still share names with the temple from my app.

Could be a lot better
I have been using the free program that LDS released years ago, unfortunately it was for Windows and is no longer supported. I thought this would help me to bring my tree up to date and allow me to share amongst my family. This app is not very good, it blocks my access to my wife’s family, even though it was me that entered the details. Adding siblings is not straightforward and is not user friendly.
Again the idea is good but it is not fit for purpose, perhaps it is for those who have only just started researching their tree, but not for me.

Family Search
Fantastic free and accurate source of gathering your family history together, their records are accurate because they are the people who went round with teams of photographers taking photographs of all the birth, marriage and death certificates, census forms, army draft papers ect, they hold all these records on microfilm in air conditioned buildings built deep under granite rock in Salt Lake City. They provided all the information that you find on paid for sites. This will always be a Free service as it is funded by the members of the church who’s property it is.

Great site for research
Been on this site for a number of years now. One of the thingsI do like about it (being a Yorkshireman) is it is free to use. Millions of items easily researched so you can add to your tree with the knowledge the information provided is correct.

Could be easier to use...
I don't know whether it's just me but I find this site so frustrating to use. Simple tasks, such as the inputting of information, can be quite a tiresome process. Linking information is a not at all easy and often confusing, especially as you are left to work it all out by yourself rather than getting any tutorials or hints even. However having said that I have made better progress, further back in my family history, than on other well known sites.
