Hooked from the first minute, A doubly fine game!

This game has an intriguing storyline, characters with big personalities, devilish puzzles, gasp out loud moments, laugh out loud moments and aww moments. It has everything you could want from a modern point and click game and I thoroughly loved it. Bravo!

This is a fantastic puzzle game for the whole family to play, it is tricky but very well thought through. I think it is incredible this game is free and absolutely love it. My only slight issue would be that it does use up quite a bit of storage but apart from that it is amazing

Brilliantly Fantastical

Wow, wow, wow 😮 this is officially THE BEST game I have EVER played in the entire universe. It has great quality 2 amazing stories and gripping twists. All I wish is that you make another on because of this masterpiece, here’s my idea 💡 you make it about Vella and Shay when they are older (like parents) and Mabey their kids (they could be separate or together) could get lost and they and their kids go on another adventure and Shay and Vella do too. I’ve dreamed about it for a long time so I hope you can do that, I love this game and company

Game does not load

I bought this game as a part of the pack with the excellent Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango. Unfortunately, it only shows the loading screen then crashes on my iPad pro bought last year. I can’t find a link to contact the developer - presumably that's done within the game, so I’ll happily update this review once I’m able to actually open and play the game I’ve paid for!

THIS is best game I’ve played since Inner World. From beginning to end, it has you hooked with the ability to switch from the two characters. A storyline that will have you so interested, you really want and need to speak to just about everyone more than once. Everything about this game is 5 stars and more. I really didn’t want it to end. One of the best point and click adventures I’ve played since Inner World. If you’re thinking maybe don’t get this... think again. It’s brilliant, just brilliant.

Nothing broken about this

As a huge point & click adventure fan from the oldest of schools, I am delighted to unequivocally confirm that Broken Age is utterly fantastic and right up there with the very best of Tim Schafer’s early work.

With a gorgeous artstyle, stunning animation and a superbly acted, genuinely hilarious, script, this early Kickstarter success story steel feels effortlessly fresh and unquestionably at the very pinnacle of modern adventure gaming.

So whether you’re a veteran point & click aficionado or an inquisitive newcomer looking for something different, I urge you to try Broken Age. Whether it’s the brand new Nintendo Switch edition, the excellent PS4 and Vita (cross-buy supported) ports, PC, or right here on iPhone and iPad, just please buy this game and get it played. A highly doubt you’ll be disappointed.

[NOTE] If I were to nitpick, I would just say that here on iOS, the game is long overdue an update to fully op-TIM-ise (see what I did there!) with Apple’s latest wave of ultra widescreen iPhones. Nothing major, just a 'quality of life' thing, to freshen up an app that’s been around for a little while now.

Excellent game but...

Broken Age is a game I’ve been interested in since the original Kickstarter; however, since I don’t own a console or computer, I never thought I’d be able to play it. Imagine my delight when I found there was a mobile port! Hurrah! I’d seen a few let’s plays of the game before, and completed Act One in a day. It was of average difficulty, but it was cute, plot driven, and I enjoyed it.

Act Two, however, sort of...drags. It’s still very plot driven, but most of your time is eaten up by solving puzzles for which there’s seemingly no hints for. I ended up consulting a walkthrough for it; not my proudest moment, but I was genuinely flummoxed at time. The finale was spectacular, but it’s an awful lot of grafting for it. That’s why this review is only 4/5 - the difficulty spike lets this otherwise great game down.

But moving on - the voice acting is fabulous, the art style is quirky and charming, the characters are genuinely funny and charismatic, and Act One’s puzzles, at the very least, are stimulating but not overly frustrating. The game ran smoothly on my iPhone 5S, and there weren’t any glitches that I could see, which was a plus.

I will say that the world of Sugar Bunting and the other human towns was more interesting to me than Shay’s ship (at least until the latter part of Act Two!), although perhaps that’s because it’s far larger in scale and has a pretty, almost wishy-washy colour palette. But I’m sure Shay’s world is more appealing to some, so it’s definitely down to personal taste.

All in all, a great game that I wish I could play again for the first time.

Imaginative tour de force

Wildly imaginative, beautifully and a ingeniously written, with levels of challenge that will eventually task the most hardened puzzle solver, this is a stellar hit. At the end it gets a bit too challenging, so do what you can and find a good walkthrough.

AMAZING

This game had me hooked until I was finished! It has an awesome and interesting story and it makes sense! It is mega clever that you made the story’s link! It’s also cool that you made a simple punch into a story switch! All I can say is that you have a good dialogue, a good story and a good range everything a game needs! Please make a second broken age! But 2 questions: If shay wasn’t really in space is Lorena real? And if Alex went down the same root with Merrik is merrik immortal?

Plus I was quite astonished when I saw the cast and saw the lead in hobbit as shay and jack black as harmony light beard! Overall this game is reallllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyy AMAZING! I’d say a better word if there is one! So it’s the best game ever!

Great App!

I love Broken age, but don’t get me wrong...this app is a real time consumer.I had to look up tutorials on how to fix a hexipal or what pattern to crochet into the Space Weaver. Overall it's one of the best games I've ever played, it's little too hard in places. It's very unique, I have not come across a game like this before. I highly recommend it, it also has some fun twists in the story. There should be some clues in the game as in some places it’s very hard. Wether you pay for them or not, there should be some form of clues to help you out whilst playing the game. But, it really is a great app amd definitely deserves the editors choice. Please make another app like this!

Outta this world!

Outstanding game! The voices are exquisite, just like you are in a movie. There is tons of dialogue to feast upon. Love the sweet symmetry of the two characters throughout. The graphics and music are superb, the plot is superb and all the characters are superb. Everything is well thought out, perfectly planned to a T. Didn’t realise until when I started playing what a bargain it was!

I highly recommend you play this game-it will transport you to another world.

It’s lighthearted, comical, puzzling, and endearing. A great story and beautiful graphics and style. Entertaining for adults and children, I recommend it to anyone who wants to play out an interesting story.

Top class

Wondered what was going on at first, but you soon get drawn in. This is an excellent adventure game. One or two of the puzzles are a bit frustrating and none are overly difficult. But it’s a great story and I really enjoyed it.

Milestone of quality

Before I start, this is an adventure game not a puzzle game. I’m not sure who’s giving these games a category but I see loads of games on the AppStore with odd categories. Okay on to the review.

I first played point and click adventures nearly 30 years ago with Zak McKracken. This, like Broken Sword is one of those examples that really takes the genre to new heights.

The sound and music in the game are second to none, the voice acting is exceptional with many known actors and professional voice actors. For me none of the characters felt forced or artificial.

The design and implementation of the visuals is perfect and the artist quality is again of the highest standard. The art, music, script and voices come together so well it’s actually freaky.

The first half of the game is great and the two stories seem to have very little in common. The play is easy and focuses on character building and has some mid level puzzles but mostly easy.

The second half has some nice plot twists and ups the puzzle difficulty quite a lot. Perhaps too much as in some cases I ended up having to refer to a walkthrough and even then it was confusing at first.

Having said that, apart from the odd moment where it became downright frustrating on a puzzle (knot and hexipal grr!!) the game never got boring and characters don’t end up wooden.

Most adventure games feel like they run out of content as they sprinkle backstory around a fixed plot that unlocks as you go along. This game is designed with a lot of minor variety to keep things fresh.

It’s still mostly a fixed path but it’s so well crafted you don’t feel like you’re playing a typical point and click formula game. The puzzles are filled with heaps of charm and each is different and mostly unique.

I can’t stress enough that this is a shining example of computer games as art. It feels like one of those books you remember from childhood that you rediscover as an adult and it gives you goosebumps.

It did crash on me twice during my play through, on an iPhone 7 after some hours of play. Probably a memory leak, starting the game up again I hadn’t lost any progress so it wasn’t a real issue.

Thank you devs, you’ve raised the bar.

Thoroughly enjoyed by the family

We had quite a few wet days on holiday. My wife, teenage daughter and I spent of the mornings playing Broken Age and got completely hooked- 17 hours of game play in to the night! Still way more family sharing moments than staring at a movie or getting lost in social media.

The puzzles are just challenging enough to keep you going but not so hard you get completely frustrated, especially with a few of you playing together. The graphics were excellent and the story telling was strong, a few questionable elements. On the whole a highly quality and thoroughly enjoyable experience.

We're now searching for something similar with little success. We'd buy another of these types of games tomorrow if Double Fine produced one.

I don't get this. I'm on the part where the girl is on the cloud place and I have NO IDEA WUT TO DO NEXT! It is really annoying me, I really like this game and I wanna keep playing but it would be better if there could be clues for wut to do next. I've returned the egg thing to it's mother but now wut? Super confusing! Even with the boy, I dont know wut to do, I just keep woundering around for ages!?

Fantasy at its best!!

All I can say is a huge thank you to the ppl that brought me this game, it got me through some seriously bleak times, it is funny with a great storyline and characters obviously a lot of time and thought has gone into its development. The only other games I've enjoyed as much are the cave and forever lost, with the room a close second, I wish I could live in this world especially shays fake space ship world ie. icecream Avalanche!!🍧🍦😊 failing that another game like this..... Pretty please?? ....soon??... ish?

Edit just had to add having seen this at £1.99 now, to anyone who hasn't already purchased this game, they're selling 💎 for pennies, please grab the opportunity it's a steal.... daylight robbery the game is that good!

Deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole...

It started, feeling like it would be too simple but the controls were easy and I liked the acting of the characters..

I loved the plot and how twisted it got. It has a lot of sadness to it when you think about it long enough once you complete it.

I found the puzzles to be good but sometimes I needed a nudge in the right direction as the sequence often repeats until the right action has been found but it's not always obvious. I would highly recommend this game, it was long enough for me and kept me entertained over a number of days. Double Fine at their finest!

Crashes on load up screen

You know it really is a joke when a paid app, by a big developer who boast about the capability of this game cant even get it to work on some of the latest iOS hardware! Im running on a 16gb iPad Air 2, yet i cannot open without this crashing. Tried deleting then reinstalling and it still does the same, also as per comments I'm not the only one! This is the sort of crap that has made me go back to my Nintendo 3ds or consoles as this doesn't happen! Thank god the Nintendo switch is out so i can say goodbye to ios gaming finally!!

Slow moving and linear

I can appreciate many people will like this, it looks and sounds great, and I like the concept of two stories running parallel and being able to switch when you like, but in practice it is very very linear, it doesn't feel like you can do anything to effect the outcome of the story, and even within the limits of being a story told in an interactive format I didn't find the story engaging and frankly it is very slow moving. Probably something teenage girls / bookworms might enjoy, not for me though

Amazing! Beautiful! Fun!

This is honestly one of the best games I've played on my phone, I love how the stories seem so completely different but link so weirdly. Interesting, not too hard but taxing enough to get your brain working, cute/cool style. Just amazing.

Charming and cute

I find this game absolutely charming, and pretty funny at times too. I love the graphics, and the story is interesting.

Only problem: you double tap to skip scenes. However i've done this accidentally TWICE on important story scenes which you can't go back and replay! It's a useful feature to have when you accidentally click on the same thing twice and don't want to hear the same dialogue twice, but i have skipped two important story scenes now and i want to watch them!! HELP

A lot of work clearly gone into this game in terms of graphics and quality, but for £4 there isn't enough to do. Half the time is spent waiting for video clips to finish, very limited and simple puzzles. Probably good for kids

Charming and atmospheric

This is really one of those games where you become attached to every character - I cried when it was over! At times, gameplay drags a bit and you find yourself going back and forth a frustrating amount of times, but I'm pretty impatient anyway so most people may not find that a problem. The music is great and the story is so well thought out. Absolutely wonderful.

Boring and not that well made

Regardless of the voice cast and the graphics, this feels like a kids story book. It's linear and doesn't inspire you to progress. Add in poorly constructed character interactions and it just doesn't cut it. There are better games out there that don't try as hard.
