Used to be fantastic until I updated it

I had the app for ages and it was the best planner I’ve ever used. Simple and easy, miles better than BikeMap or Komoot. Since updating it recently though, it’s changed the route planner look slightly and it works a lot worse. Everything is slower to load, it doesn’t save which ‘type’ of map layer I want, and going over a few hundred miles often crashes the app. I was able to plan trips of 1000s of miles before.
However the route planner is still the most simple and intuitive to use so I’m still using the app, it’s just annoying that’s it’s become worse.

Well worth the premium

I’m a beginner at this game. I’m 80, with gamy knees and a stooped posture. We have just purchased top grade ebikes (Trek Verve +) and are having the time of our lives. One I got the hang of the app, paying the premium to get the best service, and mastered the RideGPS route app, downloading the routes to the bike computer and pairing them, they work together beautifully. You get to appreciate the cheerful chirping and the warning noise when you go wrong. I’m a strong willed obstinate person, and think I know where I’m going, but I repeatedly get it wrong 😑 The apps put me right, and nobody but me knows. Magic.

Somewhat limited for a subscription-based app

Considering that the asking price is around £60/year for full access to the app, I’m a little disappointed with my trial. There are a few bugs - km changed to miles and back again multiple times for no reason, offline maps still needed some mobile signal on occasion.
There was no option to view some pieces of info in metric and others in imperial (e.g. I couldn’t combine miles travelled and meters elevation… or at least this was not at all obvious as an option).
Biggest problem for me was that I downloaded one route someone else uploaded, but it failed to provide turn-by-turn directions unless I traced the route. I didn’t have this warning while downloading it, so when the time came to use the route offline, I was stuck with a simple line through a map. Is it too much to expect the app to be able to produce directions automatically based on a route someone has already travelled? I don’t think so, particularly for a subscription-based app.

Handlebar view?

Using ride with gps and find it really good to cycle from resia on the Austrian border to Verona. Using it with a group but my apple download doesn’t seem to have handlebar mode facility which is useful for things like the screen on when nearing a turn or when hand waved near phone or keep screen on all the time and to lock orientation. Consistently the best cycling app

I’ve been using RWGPS since it’s launch on iOS and it’s developed over the years to be the best cycling app ever (I’ve tried a LOT). Easy to use too, which is crucial. The rare times I’ve asked a question of the support team, it’s always been answered quickly and knowledgeably. Thanks RWGPS team!

iPhone use

I’ve used this for several years on my iPhone. It is temperamental. When using on an Audax it starts well but as you go on it gives less and less instructions. Needs to give louder instructions and repeat them as you don’t always catch it first time.

RWGPS Sports App

I’m a cyclist and routes are important to me, battery life seems to get shorter every few months but with RWGPS you don’t need energy sapping satellite links anymore as RWGPS still shows route and location in stealth mode. First time user

I paid for 12 months because I wanted to be able to create and upload routes to my wahoo bolt. Takes a little finessing but the learning curve is simple. Love the fact that I can also include turn by turn directions and points of interest if your off piste. Once you’ve created your route simply pin the route in options and it’s ready to go on the wahoo. Love it.

Takes the stress out of navigation

I hesitated before paying for a premium subscription, but now I am glad I did. It took a while to learn how to plan routes, but I have now got the hang of it. I love being able to share the route and the turn instructions with friends before we go on a ride. On the road, turn by turn directions are timely and accurate ( once I had managed to work out how to turn the volume up! ). I can’t pretend this app is essential, but I genuinely love it and it makes rides stress free and fun again.

My goto bike app

Have used many apps before but RWGPS does everything I need in one app.
I can plan routes easily
Import routes from other apps and have to cuesheet automatically created.
All my bike Bluetooth sensors are supported and work
There is a live sharing so my partner can see where I am when I’m out solo riding
Turn by turn directions
Customisable dashboard allowing me to choose the stats I want to see when out on a ride.
Even integrates with the Garmin varia rtl515 rear facing radar and light. I haven’t tried that yet but will probably add that to the list of gizmos to buy.

Doesn’t work with Apple Watch

Very disappointed with this app, otherwise great mapping, good planning and excellent feature set.
The problem was I’m looking for a cycling app with decent turn-by-turn directions on my Apple Watch series 6. The watch app crashes and restarts randomly every time a navigation notification is raised. Have tried multiple times, it’s unusable, so sadly I won’t be continuing past the trial subscription.
Also integration with Apple Health looks poor, only writes a minimal set of data on the cycling workout which is a shame.

Sounds great but doesn’t work without paying

Well it sounds wonderful. But you spend twenty minutes making a gorgeous route through the English countryside. The problem is that if you don’t pay they make it very difficult to use it using Wahoo. Didn’t work, then worked for while, then didn’t work. I’m looking for something else. They have lost all credibility. They just want people to pay a subscription.

Poor accuracy when stopped.

Stopped at my parents for a cup of tea yet the app shows me wandering up and down their street adding half a mile to my journey when the reality is I never left the garden. Before you ask their garden is considerably smaller than Captain Sir Tom Moore’s as he lives on an estate the size of Woburn.

Good app, good route planning, good sat-nav. Could be better though...

Overall, I love it and it’s well worth a try/buy.
In terms of areas for improvement:
(1) Sat-Nav should give guidance when you deviate from route. It’s too easy to miss a turn and then not pick up on it for a while. RE routing would help enormously.
(2) The route planning does a really good job, but sometimes takes road bikes onto some pretty un-road-bike-friendly terrain. Would be better if I had faith that it’d be smooth tarmac all the way.
(3) The omission of adding in stops to the first tier of subscription seems a bit mean.

Love RWGPS

Been with these guys from the beginning and seen a good site for planning and logging my long cycle rides move from brilliant to better than brilliant.
I’m a techno phobe how it all works is all ‘Harry Potter’ to me, but I can work it.
I use the site to plan or to get ride routes from other like minded long distance cyclists. These are easily married up to my Wahoo device. The only slight niggle is when planning do check using the orange man, that your route is actually where you want it. The site is for all cyclists and I have been met with a bridle way with my road bike!
So planning a distance event in an unknown part of the Uk has to be checked before you find your on the Dales Way instead of a lovely bit o tarmac.
But all in all. I couldn’t plan and cycle without these guys!

Excellent tool, with a few minor glitches.

Excellent for planning rides in unknown areas. There are some glitches, it refused to allow me to plan a route which involved crossing a main road at an unofficial, but locally recognised crossing point. In one way this was understandable as the access was originally barred by a fence which is now non-existent. On another occasion I was not allowed to plan a route, through a village, on the main road. Clearing the route and starting again solved the problem.

I rated this highly when first trying it and that opinion still stands, but now I’ve been asked to fork out £40pa for it and there’s no way it’s worth anywhere near that. Shame there’s not a cut down version for free or lower cost, so back to the free apps, which are very nearly as good.

Just enjoying cycling again

I had to give up cycling after a hip replacement had some complications. But four years later I bought an ebike after a young man in a bike shop suggested it would get me back cycling. Did it!!!
So now I want to get out and about it made sense to get some tech for planning rides. RWGPS was suggested as a good companion app for my Wahoo so here we are. Just enjoying cycling again 😁

Much more work required

I’m being generous by giving this a 3. Out geeks like sat mav in the very early days. It uses Apple Maps rather than Google Maps which are not very good or accurate. It has a really annoying American eoman telling you directions, it bings constantly at you but the worst thing is it sends you off route quite often but then it doesn’t give you any directions of how to get back on route! I don’t understand for the life of me why strava can’t integrate navigate a route or google María do a loop rather than just a to b. I just subscribed to this at a fiver for a month... of say it was worth about a tenner a year. I won’t subscribe for a second month.

Doesn’t work in Europe

Presumably only works in the USA, because all of the European places that I cycle - including one location next to the Danube, a path that runs from Bratislava to Germany, and links up to an international system of dedicated cycle paths - have no available routes. C’mon developers, these routes are clearly marked, they’re on open source maps, and even google has them on their maps. To say that you can’t find a cycle path in Europe is ridiculous.

Better than others I’ve tried but not perfect

Been using RWGPS premium for 3 years with my Wahoo Elemnt and the app keeps improving. So happy too finally have the route archiving feature!
The weak part for me is the self generated route cues... hopeless. Many times a right turn should be straight ahead of left right or whatever. I briefly tried navigating by audio through a earpiece....total disaster. Sent the wrong way time and time again.
However aside from that no issues at all and route planning on my computer is way ahead of the likes of Komoot in terms of ease of editing, checking street view and adding custom cues etc. I only add my own cues. Would be nice if POI’s showed on my Wahoo as I rode and not just cues.

Great directions

Got it for turn by turn directions and they are excellent. I just ride with one AirPod in my ear and it navigates me at around routes I’ve never done before with spoken instructions in my ear. Works perfectly.

Great route planning app

I cycle around 10,000 miles a year in the UK and Europe, I tried several other route planning apps but they can’t touch this one. Once saved the route downloads to my Wahoo ELemnt Bolt automatically!

Use RwGPS for ride planning and as my personal record of my rides. Rides upload automatically from Garmin Connect with never any problem.
I also use RwGPS to record and plan maintenance for each of my bikes.
Makes my life much easier and I love it.
